    [WIP] Bluecoat sloop WIP

    Hello, I'd like to show you my latest WIP. As a vessel for my bluecoat faction and being of comparable size (two masts, single deck) I consider it to be an hommage to the Caribbean Clipper. It is a snow (because of the third mast directly behind the main mast for the spanker) and in military classification it would be considered as a sloop. The hull is custom build and I tried to incorporate al the typical curvatures in all three dimensions of a ship. As usual, i haven't found the time yet to create custom sails (definitely not a task I am comfortable with): I am also not sure, if the spars are wide enough for the square sails, also I am considering to add studding sails to the main- and the topsail. The interior, accesable through a hatch to lift up the rear part of the continous single deck, is still WIP as well. For armorment I'm considering carronades, I already tried to come up with a small fitting build. I used the HMS Onterio as a historical reference.     GoH 10 C: The Hunt

    Built for 10C "Miscellaneous" Category and for Brickscalibur "Frozen Wilds" Category! Amir had spent years gaining the trust of his employer. When he finally gained access to his massive vault in Barqa, he made sure to pocket some on every "accounting check". Sure, the old geezer was nice, but he was also gullible, so Amir reasoned that he deserved it! He planned to sail away to Valyrio once he had enough, and buy a quiet villa overlooking the sea with his ill-gotten gains. As it turned out, the old man was not as senile as Amir thought. Noticing a discrepancy (and hiring his own investigator), he discovered the plot and ordered Amir arrested. Amir was able to get out of town with only a sack full of the pilfered gold. It wasn't ideal, but it was better than being imprisoned or worse - authorities in Kaliphlin did not take such offenses lightly. Now he was on the snowy slopes of Mitgardia. Nice and far from Kaliphlin, but he wasn't safe. He recalled his response when he heard the news. Sitting in a tavern a few hours prior, he overheard from some travelers that a massive bounty had been put on his head. As if that wasn't bad enough, it turned out that Kars was one of the many hunters vying for the reward. Amir had heard stories of Kars for years - a tall, lean man of few words with a bizarre mask. It was said that his silver eyes pierced the soul and drove his quarries to regret the choices that led them there. Nicknamed "the Bloodhound", he was said to be the best tracker in all the land. Countless stories told of his incredible feats - Amir never fully believed them, but the news still caused him to panic. Making an inconspicuous exit from the tavern, he made his way further north. Rounding a bend, he froze in place. There he was waiting for him. All the stories were true. Drawing his dagger, Amir lunged at Kars. Faster than lightning, the bounty hunter responded with his own sword: a massive saber. In the hands of anyone shorter it would have been unwieldily. Kars dodged Amir's thrust and slashed him the back. Though only a shallow wound, Amir still cried in pain, and tumbled down the slope. Propping himself against an old birch tree, he watched as drops of blood colored the snow a bright red. He turned his head to see Kars approaching him, sword still drawn. Amir locked eyes with the bounty hunter. From behind his wooden mask peered two silver eyes; sharp as needles, they had hungry yet calculating look to them. More importantly, they peered into Amir's soul. For the first time in years, Amir felt shame and guilt for what he had done. He regretted everything that had led him to this point. Before he could beg for his life, Kars spoke. "You're lucky your employer wants you alive." More photos:
  4. Hi, I hesitated if I even should post this MOC here since it is so simple but at the end here I am. I created this truck mostly to have some fun outdoors. It has minimal amount of features and its main goal is to drive over not so pleasant terrain, like sand, mud, snow and even quite deep water. And I can do that without fears, that drivetrain will jamm, gears will skip, motors will get wet and at the end I won't have desire to clean all this mess up. I also very like the closing mechanism of "differentials" covers. It is simple, effective, works like a charm and has satisfying click when closing. This Truck is also testing ground for a couple of solutions I wanted to try out, like drive shafts connected to the axles at the angle, steering controlled by rod or way of suspension for both front and rear axles. It is also super easy to use different gear ratio or different number (1/2/3), type (M/L/XL) or even technology of motors (PF/C+). What is more, removing all electronics takes only couple of minutes and truck is ready to taking the shower to clean all evidence of you off-road madness Construction - it is very rigid and solid, you can lift it up by almost any part of the frame and body Off-Road Design - all gears are protected so you don't have to be afraid that they will jamm due to sand, mud, snow, stones etc. And even if something get inside "differentials", it is super easy to open covers and clean this up. Last but definitely not the least - ability to drive through deep water - UP TO 8CM! It over half of the height of the truck. 8cm of water and your electronics is still safe.     tender snowplough

    In many places the tenders from old steam locomotives where converted to snowploughs. since my layout is winter themed and it is winter currently i decided to build one: the tender before the conversion. the attached shovel is used to shovel coal. the other side. the middle axle is able to shift sideways to negotiate curves. ...and now after the conversion. the tender was repainted and now features air tanks to be able to swivel the snowploughs blades via pneumatics. the very same shovel is now used to shovel snow from switches and stuff... the color sceme is the one from my ski resort, the model is inspired by the 3axle tender of the german br24 steam locomotive: similar to this but with the air tanks and bigger plough from the "klima Schneepflug" style ones: hope you like this one and if you want to build it yourself the stud.io file is in the link in my signature.

NIBARIKI, Hayao Miyazaki's Citroën 2CV and Tokyo snowfall A few months ago I built the personal studio of Hayao Miyazaki, Japan's greatest animation director and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, best-loved of all the Japanese animation studios. Now it seems that it snowed heavily in Tokyo, so much so that Hayao is walking in snow with his snowshoes and with his Husky. A pair of skis are already loaded on the Citroën 2CV, heading towards Mount Fuji! Hope you like it!

    [MOC] Polaris

    Hello there! The "Wandering Skies Contest 2022" inspired me to build a steampunk MOC: Polaris! In the days when the empire was small and the world young, travel was guided by the stars. There was Capella, Sirius, Procyon, Elnath and many more. But the brightest and most important among them was Polaris, the North Star. Lying high and far away, it served as a guide even in the most remote colonies of the south. But one night, when it was already late, its light ceased to shine. Knowing its importance, the reigning King Nemo III immediately ordered the sending of adventurers to bring back the light of Polaris. But none of them ever was able to reach this remote place. Finally, Captain Gideon Winterman was sent out with his ship, the Pertinax, and John Alistair Sparks, and after seven months they reached the star, which after them no man would ever again undertake. The North Star, however, threatened to crash for lack of energy, which would have lost it for good. Then, as the legend goes, the adventurers dismantled the Pertinax and with the left engine they were able to keep the dying star in the air. Winterman and Sparks, however, could no longer leave the island. Instead, Sparks constructed a beacon, brighter than any before, by taking the lens from the Pertinax's fog lamp and replacing it with a polished ice crystal and Polaris' light returned to the night sky. Henceforth, the adventurers lived in huts built from the planks of the pertinax. And so Two saved the empire by becoming the lighthouse keepers of the North Star themselves forever. But as long as Polaris' light is ignited every night, the members of the Explorers' Guild continue to await the return of Gideon Winterman and John Alistair Sparks, hoping for a way back not yet considered or discovered.   9. Hi all!!! Some days ago, back from holidays, I found here on EB that the new OcTRAINber contest has been started earlier!!! Well, I was expecting it in October, so I was a bit "unprepared"!!! Topic is particularly interesting , but it's difficult to immediately figure out what to prepare. I was quite lucky, since during the holidays, I had the the opportunity to spot a special hystoric train on the Ceva-Ormea line, in Piedmont. This line was literally the last one adopting the three-phases alternate current "Italian" system, and was converted to diesel-only in 1973. Therefore, being unusable on the new DC system, all the old locomotives were scrapped, or abandoned...or in one specific case...CONVERTED. Here's a specific page (in Italian - but can be translated by the browser), showing the Ceva Ormea in its electric and diesel era. As you can see,the AC system required two overhead wires. http://www.stagniweb.it/foto6.asp?File=l_aln2&Inizio=26&Righe=10&InizioI=1&RigheI=50&Col=5 Among all the AC locomotives, the FS E.550 was the smallest electric "three-phases" locomotive of the whole lot. A small wonder that allowed to pull trains on the terrible Giovi line, which was a real pain for steam locomotives. The AC system was affordable, easy to use, reliable, and smooth. The only problem was related to the fixed speeds (25,50,75, and the top limit of 100 Km/h) , which declared the end of the AC and the adoption of the still used DC system (started with the glorious E.626) The E.550 is only 9.5 meters long, has 5 axles (central one with plain wheels, the outer axles have a lateral movement of 20mm), so it's a pretty agile locomotive. I sincerely DO NOT KNOW if it has ever been used on the Ceva-Ormea line. Now that we've introduced the E.550, let's forget about it for a moment,and let's move again to the Ceva-Ormea line - to be precise to Ceva Station, which is near to my holidays house. Back in the late 80s, my dad used to travel from Genova to Ceva during summer months, staying in our house for weekends. Therefore, on fridays my mom and me used to wait him at Ceva station. This station has a backyard with some dead tracks, which at the time were full of old stuff and easily accessible, since it was near the car parking. In this yard I could see a lot of things - an old shunter, some wagons, a tender... and THAT thing ! Then a very nice man working at the station explained me that it once WAS a locomotive and then it was converted to a dummy unit, needing another locomotive to push it. It's marked as VNX 806.200, and it's basically an E.550 without motor,rods,electrical equipment...and with a big snow plow mounted frontally. It was used to clean the Ceva-Ormea line and was permanently assigned (and parked) in Ceva station. I saw a restored VNX at the Savigliano's museum, but it was another unit (VNX 806.221). The 806.200 is currently parked in another station near Turin (I hope waiting for a full restore). This is what I want to propose this year for OcTRAINber contest, and I can tell you it will be in 1:87 (4-wide) and will be a display only model. There will be also an E.550, so I can show the BEFORE and AFTER together (in a pretty limited space!) See you in the next days!!! Davide

  11. Good day, everyone! Each winter I hope to build some offroader to drive in snow, and each winter something goes off. Finally in 2022 I,ve finally built what I wanted - big orange snowmobile with control+ electrics and sprockets from Liebherr/ SNOWMOBILE "TRIDENT" Two main parts are the chassis and the body. Let's start with former. Front side - as it is snowmobile it is fitted with two steerable skis. Suspension consists of parallel levers with two big yellow shock absobers and two hard small shock absorbers between the levers. Suspension is strong enough to bear the weigh of control+ smart hub with 6 battries, body parts and optionally Darth Vader as the driver. Skis are 5M wide and each one has two small rubber wheels inside to add traction on smooth surfaces (with them you can steer even on smooth floor - without only on snow) front suspension has positive castor angle. Which looks cool, but required some tricky techniques to implement steering - for example - for steering I used Large Angular Motor (or simply LAM) it is in parallel with suspension levers, but connected to chassis and smarthub with angle. Next - rear part - all driving motors (2 XL) are inside the tracks. Reduction gear is 28:36 (or 1:1,29) - keeping motors inside the tracks reduces the weigh of body which is good for suspension travel. Long shock absorbers work for vertical movement of only rear part of vehicle, whereas short sh.a. are used for vertical movemnet of whole body (long sh.a. act as parallel levers) And finally - the bodywork. I think this is for now the best bodywork I've ever made for MOC - it is orange, it looks good and its reliable and rigid enough so you can grab this Snowmobile by most of it's orange sections and nothing will fall away. Furthermore, all panel are locked in places and don't wiggle at all. I've even used aquaman's trident from brickhead as mascot when I figured out that Snowmobile looks a lot like trident from above. For everything else that you need to know i invite you to watch the video: P.S. I wanted this snowmobile to look loke a fish. But it turned out to be closer to shrimp or prawn :)
  12. Skid steer off road vehicle. The PF elements are fully protected from snow, and it actually works on harder snow. Driven by two PF L-motors, one motor per side.   13. Hi everyone, Finally, I have finished a project which I was building since last September. It is the scale model of the Intrac 2011 snow blower which is/was often used in the swiss alps by the army and other communal parties. It was the aim to create another working snow blower after the success of the snow blower from last winter. The blower is powered by three buggy-motors which are all controlled by a separate Sbrick. Each track is driven by two PF XL motors. The snow blower shoot direction is controlled by two 9-volt micro motors and the height of the snow blower by one PF L motor. As power source I used two Buwizz as battery or a custom lipo battery. After a certain time in the cold I had the replace the Buwizz with the custom lipo battery. Cheers FT

    Alnya Mountain Lodge

    It felt great to build something winter and castle again! This was an entry for the miscellaneous category of the Colossal Castle Contest. Special thanks to John for the main photo edit. Small lodges are common in Alnya to offer shelter and supplies for the various hunters and adventurers often far from towns or villages. On this snowy morning, Rydel sets out with his two dogs for a fine day of hunting. There are several game trails nearby that he feels confident will result in a good harvest.   18. The first snow of the season has arrived in Elizabethville. The soldiers of the 26th Foot take turns between standing watch with the militia at Fort di Legno and gathering firewood from the nearby forests. Lance Corporal Dryer has found a dry tree well where he sets up a chopping station on a stump. As he chops larger branches to manageable lengths, his comrades bring the wood back to camp to have close at hand. That night at camp, they stay warm around a half-dozen fires and speculate as to their role in the coming war with Oleon. OOC: Back in 2012 I got my PhD in forest snow hydrology studying how snow gets intercepted in tree canopies. I wanted to try out a snow build with a tree that intercepted some of the snow to create a well.

This rotary plow-fronted train is ready to keep the other trains running in the worst winter weather using good old-fashioned steam power! 100% fictional history of the steam engine type (and the whole train, really): In late-1929, Thomas Carter was Chief Mechanical Engineer for Brick Railway Systems (BRS), and on vacation to visit family in New Zealand. He was about to get on the train in Christchurch, when he was passed by a new NZR "G" class 4-6-2+2-6-4 Garratt steam engine. Remembering how he was having problems getting the next "big thing" built back in America, and that he was having a steam power crunch when it came to rotary snow plow duty up in the Rocky Mountains, he contacted the engine's manufacturer, Beyer, Peacock and Company, and talked about a possible contract in America using the New Zealand "G"class as a starting point. Once he got home to BRS company HQ in St. Louis, Missouri, he got the upper management's final okay, and began final design on the new "DC" class of Garratts. (DC standing for Double Consolidation, as it is really just two Consolidation 2-8-0 type loco wheel-set's back-to-back with one boiler.) All in all, six of these (assigned numbers 4834 - 4840 by the railroad) were made as a trial run in 1930, but the Great Depression worsened in 1931-33 so no more were ever ordered. (originally, 10 locos more were planned for general freight service but were never built, which would have brought the grand total up to 16 engines.) Six engines were permanently paired off of with a dual snow plow team: two DC engines on each plow, with each engine team working the two track main line, one team per track, one way, until they met at the halfway point of Continental Divide (also known as the town of Summit Point), which was a vital steam-era crew exchange and refueling point near a inter-state highway. The third team of two engines and it's plow (The one marked YO seen above) was used as replacement engine for the two crews already mentioned, and were only used if another rotary crew was down for regular maintenance or due to an accident. After diesels came on the scene to replace the steamers (plows and engines alike) in the mid-to-late 1950's, the only two steam engines left of the DC type in North America were pushing the spare steam rotary plow YO. One of these locomotives (no. 4840) was found to have a severely rusted water tank and front engine frame, and was thus kept for spare parts to keep the other loco (no. 4839) running. This severely impacted the surviving engine's ability to push the rotary plow hard enough to make it through the dense banks of Colorado snow. After a few unsuccessful modification attempts to keep the 34-year old engine going, it was decided to send the entire train (plow, engine, and caboose used for the train) to a railroad museum in Missouri. They would also be sent with all the remaining parts from engine 4840 as it might be prudent to re-steam the engine in the future. So, in 1963, the YO and 4839 were sent to National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, where it still sits today. (The following part of the story is actually true!) This steam powered rotary snowplow was inspired by the real-world Denver and Rio Grande's narrow gauge plow "OY", as now seen on the Cumbres and Toltec RR in New Mexico / Colorado. I've decided to name my plow "YO" in tribute to my inspiration, using a 2010 Toy Story printed part for the "YO" designation. Oh, and yes, the front "blade" does spin around, but is not motorized. This model has been updated since the last time I uploaded this, with a better plow shroud because the old one would fall off when I looked at it funny. This one is not upside down on the bottom half like the old one, but it is MUCH more sturdy. (I was inspired by @dr_spock's rotary snowplow to build my own plow. Take a look at his Flickr as he's got a bunch of cool designs there!) The rear of the plow features the coal tender with a ladder from the water tank-top down to the magnetic coupler. (Before anyone says anything about Garratt loco's not being ever sold into the North American market, I'll say this is not from our reality, this is my own railroad mirror-world and does not follow our history as closely as it could. I mean, I've got steam loco's running into the 1970's on main lines hauling premier passenger trains for goodness sake!) This engine was originally inspired by two SRW locomotive works products. (Both were Garratt models made by @SavaTheAggie and formerly available on Bricklink until LEGO sadly removed his instructions) I reworked the model from Sava's 4-6-2+2-6-4 to a 2-8-0+0-8-2. I also added the forward water tank and aft coal bunker from his 2-4-0+0-4-2 Garratt, a custom boiler designed by me and medium Big Ben Bricks drivers to make it from a fast passenger loco into a slow freight hauler. (or in this case, a snow plow pusher!) The engine is flexible to a degree more than this, but not by much. It goes though R40 curves and switches just fine, though. A simple caboose, for the protecting the rear of the snow plow train. I used a pair interesting windscreen parts for the cupola windows. Inspired partially by 2001 My Own Train set 10014, (Caboose) but in blue. NOTES: Finally finished 10/7/2020!

    [MOC] Ice Planet ARC-1 Mobile Command Ship

    The ARC-1 or otherwise known as "Arctic One by the ice planet goers" is fresh off the assembly line and has been proven reliable in its heavy armor and smooth flying capabilities. Instead of it's normal use as a cargo carrier or space police prisoner transport, this particular model has been repainted and is being used by a crew of ice-jewel seeking adventurers that are always on the go. Their modifications to the ARC-1 consist of a service robot, a portable refinery, a small survey tower, and a snow-mobile.     Snowy Hike

    While I still have several old models that need posting, this is my first new GoH build since moving to Billund! Quite a simple scene, but I do like how the walls of the bridge flare slightly thanks to the 1x2 rounded plates. Eryl goes for a walk outside Harburg with one of the loyal family dogs following along. More builds to come

  24. this is a quick christmas/winter winter diorama I built this past weekend to go beneath the Christmas tree. My sister with family is coming over, and my niece's favorite color is bright yellow, so it was obvious what had to be the main color of the house . Total building time: ~12h Built with parts I had on hand. Some are VERY old - can you spot the 4x8 plate with rounded corner and waffle bottom? Someone's having trouble getting in... Also, lights : Merry Christmas, everyone!
