    [MOC] Hoth Echo Base

Finally, my Hoth Echo Base diorama is done (currently being exhibited at Brickorea Convention 2018, 15~23 December in Pangyo, S. Korea). I'm a big fan of the original SW trilogy and my favorite one to watch is Ep.V. I love the look of the Echo Base and the Hoth Battle despite the boneheaded strategy put on by the Rebels (apparently hasn't improved through to Ep. VIII). (Photos updated 2018.12.21) This set focuses on the base itself and depicts the time just before the start of the Battle of Hoth. Dimensions: 160(W) x 256(L) Studs To me two of the most important features of the base are the cave entrance/exit (with heavy shield doors) and then the air/space craft bays. I've tried to replicate the shape of the cave and shield door dimensions as close to the studio model as possible. I figure the London studio just was not big enough the fully feature the original desiger's concept, and thus the makers had to squeeze everything into a modified set. Yes the cave entrance/exit is too small for the Millenium Falcon to fit through. That is why in the scene where the Falcon escapes Vader's troops, the Falcon actually shrinks in size via photographic trickery. I was just happy to stick with the actual studio set (and more economical). Although there are no real accurate maps of the base and the surrounding areas, I always figured the approach to the front of the base would be pretty well hidden by the mountainous terrain of Hoth (as Vader's shock troops are supposed to have blasted their way into the top or side of the base). Thus the front of my base is protected by relatively few troopers (as in the film) armed with some MK II Repeating Blasters. There are only a couple of DF.9 Anti-Infantry Turrets and a 1.4 FD P-Tower Anti-Vehicle Laser Cannon guarding the front (my original plan was to build the MOC in two parts: the base itself and a forward Echo Station). My DF.9 Anti-Infantry Turret design was initially featured in '[MOC] Hoth Generator Defense' with the LDD design link. https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/117121-moc-hoth-generator-defense/&page=2 [/img] My newest MK II Medium Repeating Blaster uses a black ice cream cone and a spanner wrench. Its LDD will be released in a series along with the rest (LEGO may have come up with a new receiver part for the Overwatch series which might work well). I thought of various places to put the Ion Cannon and finally settled here as I didn't want to fill that side with just lots of bricks :-) The Ion Cannon has an LED bulb embedded. You also see a Viper Probe Droid next to the Ion Cannon. The Probe Droid has lots of new design elements which LDD I'll be happy to share with you soon. A shield/power generator with four disks! Also you see a Rebel Combat Speeder in its AA role. You can find more information about the Combat Speeder below. https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/117938-moc-rebel-combat-speeder/ Han Solo returning from a recon mission. I think this is also a signature scene from the movie. Updated 2018.12.21. Now onto my command center. Updated 2018.12.21. There is that Toryn Farr whose popularity I can't quite follow. A little cramped 'Blue Room' but you have to work with what you have. Han Solo and General Rieekan having a discussion. Oh that stare! Your worshipfulness! <An acknowledgement here to Frank Diorio at dioramaworkshop.com for his wonderful command center and other decals which I've adopted here> Although a bit cramped, my command center seems to be quite close to the film set. Medical center which has been done to death. Han Solo: "Alright, don't lose your temper. I'll come right back and give you a hand." Chewbacca: "Grrrrrr!" Updated 2018.12.21. with Jerac's X-Wing Snowspeeder bays follow after actual design changes made to the studio where the base was filmed. Updated 2018.12.21. I thought the shadows over the X-Wings were the essential points. Updated 2018.12.21. You also see three GNK "Gonk" Power Droids to the right. They are really fun designs and I'll release the LDDs soon. Comparison photos. Obligatory mission briefing scene before the sortie. Updated 2018.12.21. Jerac's X-Wing is a perfect match ;-) https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/166523-moc-star-wars-the-x-wing-story/&tab=comments#comment-3017567 YSDWDY's T-47 Airspeeder (Snowspeeder) https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/138237-moc-incom-t-47-airspeeder-snowspeeder/ Also here's my service gantry model which looks good and definitely works.Updated 2018.12.21. One of two Treadwell droid models I know. This also has a nice LDD which I love. The Rebel Troop Carrier is featured in detail below. https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/117121-moc-hoth-generator-defense/&page=2 Miscellaneous: Singing in the Rain trooper. This base features some complex cave networks which cannot be fully shown. It wouldn't be pleasant trying to recover some parts dropped in there! Not the best angle, but this is how a probe droid should look. A 'blue milk' breaktime. Updated 2018.12.21. Updated 2018.12.21. One last shot. Updated 2018.12.21. Well, there you have it. This diorama set has been started in 2011 and finished only last week. That was one long project!! Hopefully now I can go on to something else - only what? ************************************************ <Photos updated 2018.12.21. with lots more goodies>

    [BH - Talz] Summertime

Early morning in Ken Roman's base ... "I've got great news for you two! There's summer on Hoth!" "Yeah? And what should this fact mean to us?" "You are going there today. I found a really nice job. A Pantoran called me and offered quite a lot for a Talz. And he needs the body as I was told. He seems to, uhm, collect them. A strange fellow, I must admit, he fought in the Clone wars and it seems that left a mark on him. But nevermind, here are the coordinates. He won't be expecting you so take it easy" Ashton and Sid, the Bass brothers, were born on the Mandalore, a planet infected by milleniums of war. Their father, a pacifist through and through, desired a better future for his two children so he sent them away to live with his friend on Coruscant. He raised the boys to live a nice and calm life. But they genes soon came out. They pursued a career of bounty hunters. Unaware of their heritage they became a deadly duo, known and feared through whole galaxy. Now, for the first time, they are headed to the unpleasant Hoth. Somewhere on the icy planet Hoth ... "Are you sure this is it?" "How many bases do you think there are around here?" "Alright, alright. Let's do it. Give me the wrench and I'll open the door. Then shoot the target and let's get out of here. I'm tired of this cold!" "Wait, he said the client needs the body. How will we carry him to the ship?" "We'll find something, we always do." "He'll probably hear this. So hurry up and shoot him before he escapes" "Suprise!" "Huh, that was easy." "We were lucky too. He has lots of radars I see. He was probably sleeping when we came here" "Looks like we haven't ran out of luck yet. Here's our transport!" "Hurry up, it's even colder here than outside" "Well if you'd helped me it would be a lot easier. Now let's go, I have enough of this planet for quite a while. I'll tell Ken to send me to a warmer destination next time. And perhaps the one where targets aren't so heavy!" To be continued ... ---- The photo of the whole build: EDIT: added some objects and a table and fridge so that our target can drink a sip of water before meeting the bounty hunters.

  7. Hey guys, long time viewer, but I decided to make an account to share some of my Star Wars MOCs with you. Most of these mocs are already on my youtube channel, but for those here Ill be posting some images and behind the scenes. First up is the UT-AT from the battle of Mygeeto in Episode 3. Awesome ship with not enough screen time.
  8. hey yall, i recently got the 2014 at at walker and i think its about time i built a display for all my hoth vehicles. i was looking on bricklink at white 32x32 baseplates but theyre crazy expensive, so i want to ask: what is the most cost effective way to get a roughly 100x100 stud area of white to start building?
  9. Hey guys, For the last few weeks I've been working on something that I have never seen done before. I was inspired by Jkbrickworks kinetic contraptions so I decided to make my own, kinetic, motorized AT-AT Walker. This build has just over 600 parts and took me about 12 hours to build, most of which was in getting the moving mechanism to work :) I have made instructions for it and you can get them here: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/222759462918?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 The instructions and renderings are for my 2nd version (Much better) and the video is of my 1st version, just so you don't get confused but the only changes are some colors :) I hope you like my moc and any feedback would be great! Thanks, MM

    [MOC] T-47 Snowspeeder

Hi everyone! I built this model earlier this year as part of one of my entries to the IDS-MOC Olympics but I never came around to post detailed shots of the Snowspeeder itself. Up until now! I tried to keep it as close to minifigure-scale as possible without loosing too much detail and the ability to fit two figures into the cockpit. I am quite happy with how it turned out but of course there is still room for improvement. If you have any suggestions on how to improve it, I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments! :)

    Hoth mini-diorama

I got an inspiration last weekend, and decided to build a mini diorama of the Hoth rebel trenches on a 16x16 base. Once that was ready, I felt I had more in me. This was the result (the pictures are not that good, unfortunately)

    [MOC] Echo Base

Hi, I have been displayed my version of the Battle of Hoth at shows in Ireland over the last few years. It's mostly using models from sets, but each time I try to add some new custom details. For the latest incarnation, I've added the medical lab, complete with Luke thawing out... It set me back €3 in my local discount store. In addition to the medical lab, here is the latest version of the command centre. I've tried to do this a couple of times, but never really felt I captured the atmosphere of the movie. I think there's still room for improvement, but I'm much happier with the latest version, below: Echo Base Command Centre by James Shields, on Flickr Echo Base Command Centre by James Shields, on Flickr Echo Base Command Centre by James Shields, on Flickr This is on display in Athy in Ireland tomorrow. [MOC] Snowspeeders

So for a while I wanted custom Snowspeeders for my Hoth diorama. When I saw Brickdoctor's version, I just couldn't resist having a go. I built the first one for a show we held in Naas, Ireland, basically off Brickdor's LDD file, but with a few mods (mostly for parts I didn't have to hand): T-47 Snowspeeder by James Shields, on Flickr However, for larger Hoth displays, I wanted to have a fleet of them. And as I only have LDD on my desktop computer, which resides in a different room from my LEGO, building from LDD is a pain (as if it wasn't already, given the weird way LDD orders instructions). So I built the extra ones by copying the first. Working this way, it makes sense to get a production line going, so I only have to dismantle once. Snowspeeder Production Line by James Shields, on Flickr Here's the completed snowspeeder squadron, ready to defend Echo Base: Echo Base Defenders by James Shields, on Flickr One handy tip. Brickdoctor recommended red LEGO rubber bands to hold the wings together. I used these for the first one but found them a little too long (it's possible mine had stretched from prior use). I found some "loom bands" in the bottom of a tub of used LEGO, and they were actually perfect for the speeders. They're a little thinner than the LEGO ones, and really stretchy, so easy to pul over the desired parts. Once I had my squadron, what's the first thing I do? Why crash one into the snow, of course, recreating Luke's famous scene with the tow cable... Snowspeeder Down! by James Shields, on Flickr Finally, I'll leave you with my version of the box art of one of my favourite LEGO sets... 45000 Rebel Snowspeeder by James Shields, on Flickr
  17. Here is my Assault on Hoth MOC layout. The idea for this build came after building the Raskolnikov AT-ATs half a year ago. They were standing on display next to other SW sets, but I felt that they deserved more. The intention was to make a Hoth display for the Imperial side instead of an Echo Base, which has been done many times already. After designing the layout in LDD I started building and more ideas came to mind. I decided that I still needed some Rebel influences as otherwise the display would be too dull, so I opted to go for a Trench as seen in Episode V. The entire build is modular so that I can easily transport it. The left and right side are both on 2 48x48 baseplates and are connected via technic pins. The 'snowground' is constructed with 16x16 plates and some smaller ones. Dimensions: Entire build: 96x96 studs (80x80 cm) Snowground: 88x88 studs Partcount: 13000+ Credit: I used a lot of inspiration from existing MOCs/MODs and other things. Credit goes to all these people for their builds:
  18. At a recent local show, I displayed my Battle of Hoth diorama. I had about 5 imperial speeder bikes on the display that came from various sets over the years. Most of them are based on a big trike piece, and all of them lack detail. I've realised that these didn't really benefit the display, and I want something a bit better for the next time. I think one or two really well designed ones will look a lot better than a squadron of mediocre ones. I present the 74-Z speeder bike: 74-Z speeder bike by James Shields, on Flickr Although it wasn't seen in the Empire Strikes Back, there are several semi-canon sources that suggest they were used on Hoth. It's built for detail rather than robustness, and some of the connections are a little sensitive! James

My Battle on Hoth display from Brick Con today. Credit to various people, Gol for the AT-ST (who says they won't stand up properly, that one has been stood for 8 hours being wobbled all over!), Anio for the original AT-AT and Snowspeeder build (though I've completely rebuilt almost all of it I would have struggled without the originals to work from). I've been building it for around 5 months and in total have used around 30,000 bricks.

    Battle of Hoth

Hello all, For many years making a diorama from the battle of Hoth has always been on my wishlist. With the recent influx of minifg-scaled AT-ATs one more excellent than the other, I was once again inspired and started my own one. :) Needless to say, it turned out so great much a diorama soon followed. Like all my projects, I started designing in LDD and then got all the parts I required. Designing and building time was approx. 1 year, with lots of smaller projects in between as well. The diorama consists of 8 (4x2) large baseplates and includes a Rebel trench, shield generator, turrets and blaster cannon foxholes. A snowspeeder is flying over ready to engage. The empire is represented by an AT-AT, AT-ST and a large number of snowtroopers with an E-Web blaster cannon. The AT-AT also includes an accurate interior, with a troop area, speeder bike garage and more! Everything was built as close as possible to the source material. Troop capacity is 36 from the 40, unfortunately 4 seats had to be removed to allow space for the neck anchoring in the hull. Additionally there is a 5-man crew (commander, 2 drivers and 2 deck officers). In addition, lights are built into the AT-AT, cannons and turrets! Here are the pictures; I apologize for the background as they were taken at a local show my LUG held. AT-AT with full interior. The model can stand on its own without further support. The legs and side panels can detach for "easy" transport, but it requires two persons to set it back up again. Snowtroopers and AT-ST Snowspeeder Rebel trench Let me know what you think! There are a few people who deserve credit: All in the Reflexes, who shared his AT-AT hull LDD file here on EB. I used this as the basis for my AT-AT, strengthened and modified the exterior and then added the interior. Larry Lars for his excellent snowspeeder design, which I slightly modified. LiLmeFromDaFuture, from who I used the AT-ST legs and feet. I also based by shield generator design on a MOC I saw here on EB, but I forgot who was the author. Anyone?

    [Model MOC] T-47 Airspeeder (Snowspeeder)

Greetings to all, Finally, after the course of almost 3 months of designing in LDD, I have finished my original creation of the beloved T-47 Airspeeder—but what we all know and commonly refer to as Snowspeeder, from the epic battle of Hoth featured in "Empire Strikes Back." Prior to building this airspeeder, I loved The Empire and everything concerning it, yet I despised the Rebels and everything about them. Well recently before the snowspeeder, I have been building a minifigure-scale AT-AT walker and numerous things related drew on me—especially the snowspeeder. I began to find the snowspeeder quite fascinating, and the idea to have one accompany my walker. Now the rest was made history in the course of about 3 months. Proceeding to photos Upon the level of detail, yet on a small scale, one would consider this a scaled down version of the 10129 UCS Snowspeeder model for minifigures. Like so it would be appropriate to design a display stand, for a "in flight" position. The bottom is nothing less of a swooshy-esque Now proceeding to various details of the ship: Here is the inside of the cockpit Unlike others, I decided to forgo a detailed interior. My priorities were to design the body with structural integrity, and readily accessibility for placing and displacing minifigures—even to having them sit on tiles instead of plates, because we all know how frustrating it is to pull minifigures off of studs by their headgear. Besides the smooth uniform slope of the repulsor units or either the laser housing, one of the most unique details are the grille detail on the repulsor units. Prior to designing, I have not seen this detail properly represented, but with exception to Lego's UCS Snowspeeder. I am appreciative I was able to achieve this because they look absolutely attractive. As well of something that is other times overlooked is the barrel diameter for the lasers. I believe any were to make their original T-47, the barrel diameter for the lasers should be according to. There is simply nothing else better than the use of technic pins for this aspect of the aircraft. As you have notice, besides the new Speed Champions windscreen, I have implemented Larry Lars' nose design into my work. I originally used the decorated wedge brick used on Lego's former Snowspeeder products, but later on in the design it work as desired. But what I always find remarkable about the plated nose is how readily easy it was to implement without sacrificing any details on the wings. Also I used Lars' most recent heat sink design, yet I made changes to it for implementation into my snowspeeder. Not only that, I as well replace that hinge plate he used for the plug detail on his with a modified tile with clip—for added accuracy of detail. Thrusters. What I believe is also critical to be represented, is the smooth, uniform, transition from the end of the wings to the boarder of the canopy. Simply the way this aspect must be, but mission accomplish here. Onwards to the structure of the build: The minifigures Luke & Dak True, Luke & Dak did not operate a snowspeeder with orange markings, but who ever cared about this with the original snowspeeder back in 1999 and its reboot in 2003? Unique 20 facts about this: I have fidelity for details and for them to be accurately represented as possible in my models Yes, I am perhaps a model maker, yet I aim to utilize Lego in unprecedented ways to incarnate the quintessence of that which I am modeling after I have only implement Lars' design for the nose and heat sink the rest of this model genuinely original The model is quite modular—can be separated in three pieces: body and wings The body is structurally sound—comprised of mostly plates which are overly interlocked to each other It would take such a crash to obliterate the body This model consist of 486 Lego elements The dimensions of the model from the wides and longest points (excluding the laser tips) are 20 x 23 studs Only three parts are unproperly connected according to Lego's system There is no black elements featured in the model (excluding the display stand) The heat sink and the grille pattern of the repulsor units are featured in old dark grey—a stylistic preference to highlight these aspects of the model in a respect to have being weathered down by heat The thrusters uses a dark grey antenna—a rare color unreleased before The harpoon gun was redesigned 7 times before settling on the current version (which makes 8) Despite some elements in older colors, the oldest part is the sunroof set for the canopy The display stand consist of 30 Lego elements While displayed, the snowspeeder is locked fixed onto the stand by the four fingers clutching the rib-esque section underneath While attached the snowspeeder will not wobble and could even be handled upside down (though that is not recommended) Placed on horizontal surfaces, the display would not topple unless intended force is applied There is 176 white elements, 151 light blueish gray elements, and 136 dark blueish gray elements A LDD file is available and is free as for now *FILES REMOVED*
  25. Hi guys, so I had a few spare parts left over from my Hoth Micro Moc so decided to put them to good use! Hope you like!
