REVIEW - 42047 - POLICE INTERCEPTOR INTRODUCTION Starting with the 42010 - Off-road Racer and 42011 - Race Car in 2013, TLG released two sets in the first half of each year, using a pull-back motor. The pull-back motor allows the model to be pulled back, followed by forward motion. Usually there's no apparent relation between the two set, other than the ability to combine them into an alternate build. This year there seems to some sort of Cops and Robbers scene going on. A Getaway Racer and a Police Interceptor. That can't be a coincidence. Makes you wonder who will be victorious, the good guys or the bad guys. Let's find out! Note: All images can be clicked for hi-res versions. SET INFORMATION Number: 42047 Title: Police Interceptor Theme: Technic Released: 2016 Part Count: 185 Box Weight: 325 gr Box Dimensions: 26,0 cm x 13,8 cm x 5,9 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 19,99 Price per Part: € 0,108 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX The box has the same dimensions as previous year's pullback motor sets. In the lower right corner there's a visual explanation of the pullback mechanism. Lime green might seem unusual for a police car, but it might work out better than expected. CONTENT OF THE BOX The box contains: 1 Instructions Booklet 1 Sticker Sheet 2 Technic Liftarms 1 Pull-back Motor 3 Bags INSTRUCTION BOOKLET The instruction booklet for the main model. Unfortunately no booklet for the alternate model. STICKER SHEET The sticker sheet shows similar lime green details as found in the rest of the model. PULL-BACK MOTOR AND LIFTARMS The pull-back motor and liftarms haven't been sealed in plastic bags. BAGS Three bags containing the rest of the parts. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new and/or otherwise interesting parts. 7L AXLE IN YELLOW The 7L Axle has never been released in yellow before. This year TLG surprised us with releasing axles in different colors, like yellow, red and orange. This set only contains a yellow 7L Axle, but you can checkout my other reviews to see which other axles have been (re)released. This 7L Axle has also been used in the Drag Racer. LIME GREEN PARTS The 30.4mm D. x 20mm Wheels are unique to this set. They have been released in various colors, but never in lime green. The 3x3 L-shaped Thin Liftarms haven't been released in lime green since 2001. TIRES These 43.2 x 22 ZR Tires haven't been used in pullback sets before. They do appear in 48 other sets though, so they aren't very rare. WHITE PANELS If you haven't bought Commander Cody or the Mercedes Arocs this looks like the perfect set to get some of the small white panels. PART LIST This set contains 185 parts, shown below. THE BUILD Since it's a small model, I will skip the building steps. I hereby present the finished Police Interceptor. I was on the fence about lime green, but seeing it in real life takes every doubt away. Although not your average police color scheme, the lime green does add a kick to this set. I do love the overall SUV shape of the model. The Driving Ring Connector used in the chassis of the Race Cart (see my review) are used constructing the roof of this model. That relatively new parts proves to be very versatile. Even though there are quite a few stickers, which add some lime green details to the model, the model looks great without stickers too. It doesn't rely as much on the stickers at the Getaway Racer does. The chassis is pretty basic, using the pullback motor in the rear axle. VIDEO Here's a short video showing the model. LEFTOVER PARTS A few common leftover parts. FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS VIDEO Here's a video demonstrating the pull-back functionality. And yes, my girlfriend was kind enough to catch the model before it fell to the ground B-MODEL The alternate model, the Extreme Police Racer, is a combined build with the Getaway Racer, which you can see on the back of the box. Unfortunately the instructions for the combined B-model are not included, so I didn't get a chance to build it. The double rear-wheeled formula one type racer seems to be cool enough to give it a go. SUMMARY I think this is one of the best looking pull-back racers, together with the 42026 Black-Champion-Racer from 2014. The Getaway Racer looks very good too, but it does rely heavily on it's stickers. Lime green adds a kick to this model. Combined with white it provides a great color scheme. The model itself has a very distinctive SUV look, which is properly executed. Negative aspects are hard to find. This is a winner!! SCORE How do I grade the good guy in this year's duo. 9 DESIGN The lime green actually works. Less dependent on stickers than the Getaway Racer. 7 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Nothing out of the ordinary. 7 FEATURES Limited to the pull-back functionality. 7 PLAYABILITY Combined with the Getaway Racer, kids will love it. 8 PARTS Lime green rims are unique to this set. Lots of useful white parts. 8 VALUE FOR MONEY Pullback sets always deliver a certain value. 7,7 GOOD GUYS DON'T ALWAYS FINISH LAST More image can be found on my Flickr page. Thank you for reading.   2. This is a MOC I have made based off of the steiger line of tractors. I have decided to put this project on Lego Ideas, and was hoping many you could support it. I am striving for this to become a Lego set. I do understand that there is less of a chance for this to become a Lego set because it is Technic. I would appreciate no negative comments about this Technic creation being on Lego ideas. Only constructive criticism please. If you could share this around, or just support it.   3. This is my work in progress Bowler Wildcat. It features all-wheel drive through 2 differentials and quick steering response from the geared up servo motor. It also has a rechargeable battery box for lightness. The 1 L motor is geared up 20/12, so it's pretty fast and has sufficient torque.

  5. Hello: This is my new MOC baja. It uses 2 L-motors for drive (not coupled) and a Servo motor for steering. It has full suspension with live axle rear (Like it should) and front positive caster independent suspension and working front lights. The batteries used are 9v made to work with custom adapers similer to 1nxtmonster 's called the MiniZip, but mine has 2 plugs instead of 1. (purists dont kill me) The front suspension is stablized by the 6L links elimiting almost all front-back free play in the suspension. Also the front suspension has no upper wishbon but it has a verticle axle holding it togeathe much like a MacPherson strut suspenion does, but the spring is not mounted to the hub. (see Image) It works quite well but does break if you drop it from over 3-4 feet or ~1.5 meters but it does the job for being as small as it is. Hope you like it All pictures HERE Bye

    Girder Bridge

    Happy November, Train Tech. I feel like I've occasionally seen bridges posted here, but for most bridges some sort of elevation change or slope is needed to integrate it into the layout. I wanted to share a simple design I came up with that addresses this issue. The basic idea is that the parts of the bridge that hold on to the edge of the gap don't extend underneath the track, so the "floor" of the bridge is at the same level as the rest of the layout: I tried to keep the bridge easy to build, using mostly basic bricks, plates, and Technic beams. The trickiest parts to find are probably the studless beams. While writing this post I realized I had made a mistake, and the bridge shown in the first photo actually spans a gap of 34 studs, instead of some multiple of 16; I've since fixed it in the CAD files. The idea is that the bridge should be as long as common baseplate lengths to integrate into layouts easily. For example, here's a 48-stud long version: Since there are repeating 16-stud sections in the bridge, it's easy to extend it. I haven't tested to figure out what the longest stable length is, but the bridge should be stronger in scenarios where the table extends down and gives the underhanging part of the bridge something to push against (like in the second image above).   11. This tutorial shows how to increase the firmness of your LEGO tires! If your Mindstorms or Technic creation is pushing the tires down like a flat tire due to heavy weight, or if you want less rolling resistance from squishy tires, you've come to the right place! I hope this tutorial is a big help! NOTE: You will have to search around for the right size, depending on the tire. One size does not fit all. Typically, foam inserts from 1/16 scale RC vehicles should fit on tires from 42000 Grand Prix Racer, 8110 Unimog U400, or 9398 4x4 Crawler.
  12. So I made a small scale solid axle just for fun and I think it turned out quite well, but it wiggles side to side a bit too much. Here are some pictures. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Those are the pictures of the axle, now here is the problem. The above two pictures show the extent of the wobble.

  14. Do any of you have a set that you never bought but wished you had? I mean, REALLY, REALLY regret? For me it would have to be the Unimog. At the time, it was between the 42009 and 8110 for me, figured I'd buy the crane first, then the 8110 later, (which was at my local toys R us). Went back a couple months later, and the 2-3 they had were sold. I'm still trying to find one BNIB for a decent price, but it's so hard. So what sets do you all regret not getting?
  15. Hello, my entry for the latest contest will be ancient greek crane like this one. And here are some photos of my current progress. The design is very simple but it is how it should be... it's a bit rainbow now because I don't own much technic pieces but the order is placed and I hope that new parts will arrive soon. I decided to motorize it with Lego PF instead of original human power - motors and battery box will act as counterweight. And yes, that red tile with flame on it is PF receiver dummy :D

    Seduced by Modular Buildings

    For the first time in about 5 years I am building a Technic set, the 24 Hours Race Car - 42039. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed building Technic sets. In 2008 when I started LEGO again I was building mostly NXT constructions and Technic sets. The last Technic set I built was the 8258 Crane Truck. Wow! That was a great set. Then I discovered the Cafe Corner and I was seduced away from Technic by Modular buildings. Then for the next 5 years I mostly bought and built modular buildings, Winter Village, an occasional Star Wars set and a random selection of other themes, then Monster a Fighters mostly for Halloween. Several years ago I even sold many of my Technic sets... I had an unopened Crane Truck, a front loader and an 8043... All still in box, I was convinced that I was done with Technic, so they were sold. I even sold a a Crane Truck and Off Roader that I had built. The one I miss the most is the Crane Truck. I don't want to own it, I just want to build it. I have quite a few a Technic parts, and I recently bought the 42009, 42042, 42037 and the 42039. I must have enough parts to build the Crane a Truck, maybe not in the proper colors, but I just to build and disassemble it anyway so it doesn't matter. Who else has been seduced away from one LEGO theme by another LEGO theme only to later find that they missed their original theme? Are you now building in the theme you "left for good"? Or are you still having an affair with a new LEGO theme? Well now I am going to get a balance between Technic, Modular Buildings, Winter Village and whatever other short term LEGO affair comes along.   17. Hi there! As you probably know I'm an a middle of building Lancia Beta Monte Carlo in a rather big scale. You can see it here: http://www.eurobrick...opic=104575&hl= In the mean time, while I'm waiting for new parts to arrive, I've started a new project. It's a delivery van loosely based on Fiat Ducato (best blueprint I've found that matches). So the goal is to have two L motors powering front wheel drive with independent suspension and floating axle on the back. I've planned to put all engines on the back or under the seats but, as you can see below, everything fit perfectly in the front There was no plan on making fake engine, but the space between two L motors was begging for one Due to front wheel drive, rear axle is minimalistic as it can be. It's two link floating axle with pan hard rod (am I correct?). The floor looks really funky.. I have only ONE gray panel... will be having a lot more after the Arocs Front axle is an old standard. It works well, but has a very large turning radius. Also, it's pretty fast. So the turning radius works well with this speed. I think that's all for today.

Hello everyone, some time ago i got amazed when i saw the lego trains, and after a long time watching thems i wondered, if there was any lego technic train, so i decided to search, and i didnt find any one,i ve just found some trains on internet, but none really a technic model, so i wanted to make one by myself, so here it goes: This is the main idea its to have a fully working lego technic train, i wanted to make it to work without rails (because it would be to hard to make or buy them), it would work like a crane like movement. The whole model isnt very good because i had almost no time to make it, the idea its to have 2 bogie motors, both powered and steerable, i have used normal wheels with tires, because normal lego train wheels arent enough big or grippier, also the profile and the look wouldnt work, so i made this: The bogies would be powered by XL motors in the frame (from the green part) and rotated by servos, the drivetrain its like a normal truck rear transmission (but without suspension), differentials are to prevent damage to the axles during turning: And this is a picture showing how it would work: I know this model is really ugly and simple, but is because i hadnt time and im first designing the working parts, there are obviously some strength problems, but i will do my best and i will keep working on it to make it better (and maybe bigger), any suggestion for an improvement or ideas are welcome (sorry if i have a wrong spelt or misused word).   20. G'day. Today after a couple of hard lego nights Ive entered a competition on ReBrick for a design on a Mercedes truck in the year 2045. As to the comp rules I am allowed to display it after I have submitted it in the comp which I have done. Mercedes Hybrid 850. Using two fuel types to ensure day and night running. Water for Hydrogen gas to an inline turbo 6. Electric motor for main source of power for zero emissions. The truck will still be able to go off road on dirt (here in Australia) or ice but have a heavier payload and pulling more trailers. Extended cab with a flat floor for sleeping area/office where the steering wheel folds up and seats turn around for when in driver less driving mode. Using mag-lev tech from trains incorporated to freeways the truck becomes self propelled and lighter (switch on top of cab to turn on lights).Hud display only for a cleaner cab interior. When coupled to a trailer extra solar power is accessed by the solar panel on its roof. Extra charge is created by air driven ducted turbines under each side of the cab. A drone can be deployed for a birds eye view and assist remote driving. Mirrors replaced by cameras and an active large front grill that can shut off air flow when not needed. Double wishbone front suspension and disk brakes all round and gull wing doors. Battery on one side and the water tank on the other and rolling on anti puncture tires. Playable features- *Hog steering. *Push button gull wing doors. *Full suspension. *On off driving lights. *On off Mag-lev lights. *Detacheble trailer. Additionally, I would to have all functions controlled by switchgear box and propulled by one PF XL engine. During the model construction has occurred that PF XL was to big and has to be replaced by something else. I choose PF L - copes, but sometimes lack of power is visible. It is the first time that I use PF servo. In general I'm content, but delays of signal transfer are visible (especially when batteries are weak).   24. Hey all, This is the crane I'm making for the TC8 competition, a Liebherr LTF 1045 truck mounted crane, mounted to an 8x4 Scania P380 chassis. The Liebherr LTF 1045 is a crane which is factory fitted to either an 8x4 MAN, Scania, Mercedes or Volvo chassis with the crane fitted on a Kenworth T800 in the USA. It has a lifting capability of 45 tonne and a 52m boom height when fully extended. My MOC is in scale 1/16.5 and will be fully RC. The crane's boom will be approximately 1.5 metres long when all two stages are fully extended. The RC functions are: Drive: one XL motor Steering: Servo motor Stabilizers folding/unfolding: M motor Stabilizers extending/retracting: M motor Superstructure rotation: M motor Boom elevation: L or XL motor depending on space Boom extension: L motor Hook raising/lowering: M motor ​Other functions: Stabilizers lowering/raising: Independently controlled using pneumatics Opening cab doors Tilting cab (probably) Straight six engine Full suspension ​ Enough chat, time for some progress photos: Chassis with the stabilizers retracted And stabilizers extended and lowered A closeup of the stabilizer setup The main boom at its full length of 71 studs, with two stages going inside of it \ What I have of the first stage so far, not the actual design but just an indication of the extension length from just one of the stages. That is my progress so far and I am currently working on improving the stabilizer design because at the moment they are too high and bulky. I will start making better progress once I get the parts I need this weekend. I'll update this thread regularly with my progress as it comes along. As always feedback is appreciated, Cheers
