[REVIEW] 42090 - Getaway Truck

REVIEW - 42090 - GETAWAY TRUCK INTRODUCTION The Getaway Truck is the "other" Pull-back Racer of 2019. Since TLG has introduced the "cops and robbers" theme again, this set is considered to be the antagonist, or bad-guy if you will. The picture below shows the previous Getaway Truck from 2016. That set looked Bad-ass with a capital A. The latest versions follows TLG's new design philosophy (for smaller sets anyway), which is using less parts and more panels. DISCLAIMER This set has been provided by the CEE Team of TLG. It's not my goal to promote this set. It's my goal to give you an honest opinion about it. Therefore, the opinion in this review is my own and is in no way linked to TLG. SET INFORMATION Number: 42090 Title: Getaway Truck Theme: Technic Released: 2019 Part Count: 128 Box Weight: 297 gram Box Dimensions: 26,2 x 14,0 x 7,1 cm Set Price (RRP): € 19,99 Price per Part: € 0,16 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX As usual this model can be combined with the other Pull-back to create a combined model. This time it is a rather unconventional tank-ish vehicle. You can see the image on the back of the box. The combined models are often odd vehicles, but this one is taking the cake. CONTENTS OF THE BOX The box contains: 1x Booklet 1x Sticker sheet 1x Pull-back motor 4x Tire 2x Unnumbered bag HIGHLIGHTED PARTS The only interesting parts in this set are the dark bluish grey panels. The 7x3 Curved Panels on the left have been introduced in 2017, so they aren't new. But the #3 and #4 Panels on the right are new in dark bluish grey. The previous Getaway Truck also used these panels, but they were black with stickers. PART LIST The complete part list for the 128 parts. COMPLETED MODEL Granted, the completed model definitely looks better than the Police Pursuit. But like that one, this model also relies heavily on panels. It's basically six panels connected with some liftarms. Spared no expense? On the contrary. Spared all expenses and made it as cheap as possible. Where are the wheel hubs?! The mandatory bottom view. The pull-back motor is dark bluish grey, but it looks like old dark grey in this pic. The usual left-over parts. SUMMARY I will repeat here what I said in the Police Pursuit review. The pull-back models confirm my suspicion that TLG is drastically looking at ways to optimize profit, instead of delivering cool sets. One can argue that kids will hardly notice the difference when they get a pull-back set, but only using a couple of panels and liftarms is totally different than the setup of the previous Getaway Truck. That one had a very cool design and cool details. PROS The design is better than its Police counterpart CONS Mostly comprised of panels Simple design Way less detail than the previous version SCORE How do I rate this set? (most scores are copied from 42091 - Police Pursuit) 6 DESIGN Okay-ish. 4 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Done in a minute. 7 FEATURES On par with other pull-back sets. 7 PLAYABILITY I have rated other pull-backs the same grade. 4 PARTS 42 parts less than its predecessor. 5 VALUE FOR MONEY The low part count makes this set less attractive than previous versions. 5,5 AT LEAST IT LOOKS LIKE A NORMAL VEHICLE FINAL WORDS Thanks you for reading this review. It's Uwe's creation. The way the functions are incorporated in the main truck is amazing! HOG steering behind cabin, another HOG for cabin tilting linked with overhead deck lifting. And the B model is bloody hell gorgeous. It got me saying OMG I HAVE TO HAVE THIS upon seeing A-model functions: - Truck V6 - Truck Cabin tiliting linked with cabin overhead deck lifting to reveal V6 - Truck HOG steering behind the cabin - Truck lowering second deck - Truck elastic return-to-defaulr car locking cranks that go through rubber 2-stud liftarms on the passenger side - Truck opening doors - Trailer lowering rear ramps - Trailer lowering overhead deck - Trailer lowering front ramps so that car can drive on truck's lowered second deck. - Car HOG steering in the back - Car V8 Car doesn't have opening doors. The trailer doesn't have standing legs. Truck uses 6 Mack wheels. Trailer uses 4 wheels from 8109. Car uses 4 wheels from Corvette. UW logo on the truck's front grille. B model consists of: - 1 big truck with flatbed, using 4 Mack wheels - 1 trailer using 2 Mack wheels - 1 show car using 4 Corvette wheels. This car has a Funny Car (42050 Drag Racer) vibe. It has exposed front V6 and a supercharger on top. - 1 show truck using 4 wheels from 8109. It looks like a boxy fire truck. The rear compartment can be open upward to reveal a V8. The flatbed truck houses the show car, while the trailer houses the show truck. The colors are swapped. The show car is completely in red and uses the red small wheel arches from the truck in the A model. Meanwhile, the flatbed truck is in dark azure, LBG, and DBG, and uses all the dark azure of the sport car in the A model. B-model functions as visible: - Big Truck lowering flatbed - Big Truck HOV - Show Car V6 - Show Truck HOG - Show Truck opening rear deck (like 42070 B) - Show Truck V8 - Trailer standing legs - Trailer lowering flatbed. Parts in new color: - 5x11 tapered panel in RED - Corvette wheel arch in RED and DARK AZURE (42070 color) Rare parts: - 2x11x3 Steering Knuckle Arm (33299) in RED - 3x7 shell in RED (first appearance in 42082) - 2x5 panels in DARK AZURE (appears in 42083 and 42095) - 3x11 shell in DARK AZURE (appears in 42083 and 42077) - 5x7 panels in LBG (first and only appearance in 7160 Bionicle Drop Ship) I spot two gear racks in red holders. -
MAZ 537 8X8 (WIP)

Hi guys, after a while of being not so active on the forum I decided to share a MOC (still wip) of a MAZ 537 8X8 truck. When I saw the 42099 I knew I needed some planetary hubs, so I got myself 8 of them :). Around this time I started playing with LEGO again, but kept it at american trucks (which i will post later). I started making a simple axle, because I really wanted the independent suspension on all axles like the real truck has. After this I build a test chassis and one thing led to another and now I have a rolling chassis for the truck. American truck Kenworth K100. The model is made in the scale of 1:22. Has a suspension on all wheels. Two l-motors are used for driving and a servo motor for steering model. The truck is equipped with an automatic trailer hitch. Thank you for watching.

Hello every1. I am noob here and this is my first attempt to take a part is such competition. i am AFOL from Russia. my main problem - I can’t finish my Mocs, so I decided to hit goals importAnt for me first of all. 1. Keep building my model to the end 2. try myself in such worldwide competition 3. learn more about building technics i already started my build. It’s gonna be azure hot rod pickup. cause lack of experience it’s not gonna be a model with much details and features. Thx every1 and sorry for bad English. Don’t judge me to hard. -
Hi guys and gals, first post here, been following the forum for about 3 years now. Got bitten by the Technic bug with 42046 and here I am today. Recently bought a 42106 for cheap in Bulgaria and after building 42070 earlier the sloped panels got me thinking - there is a truck hood in this. Sooooo, let's make a truck C-model out of 42106! Full size pictures are located here:https://imgur.com/a/wOlijkp The aim of the C model is to be able to tow trailers like the MACK Anthem's one. M Longer inspired me by his 42075 terminal truck. We'll see if I manage to implement it somehow. The chassis is the same from 42106's pickup truck, then reversed a bit. Track has been widened by 2 studs, fenders made wider as well. The rear has dual tires which for the contest will be swapped with a single one just as the front axle. Currently they are a placeholder and proportions tool... I've seen how long the rules topic is so I had to put this text here... Initially it began as the chassis above, trying to figure where to stick the cab: Then after I figured out its placement came time to adjust where the doors would be. Which happen to be the ramps from the trailer. After some further shaping of the fenders and color swaps until it felt right - I got this below. The blue pins protrude for now as everything was just in sketch phase. Makes it easier to disassemble... Final shot of this for now is this: Further will come soon. I hope this qualifies for the contest as it is almost 17 studs high, please let me know if I can enter. If I can't - I'll continue working on the C model aspect of it. Cheers from Bulgaria! p.s. My dear fellow Eurobricks people, finally, again after a too long while, I managed to prepare something edible (I hope ) out of the finest ABS we all love so much. Let me introduce you my take on Kenworth W900... I’m a bit ashamed to admit, that this MOC was finished already in early 2018 and it took me until now, to prepare the photos and a video of it. This was built for our LUG’s 20th exhibition KockeFest, that took place in March 2018. It was the time when LEGO Technic Mack Anthem came out, so the theme of Technic section of the exhibition was, naturally, "container trucks and container handling machinery" in same scale as the Mack. We agreed on slightly longer containers, because, let’s be honest, the one on the Mack is a bit too short… so here it is… This whole eighteen-wheeler is some 108 studs long (87 cm) and 16 studs wide (13 cm), well the wheels might be getting close to 17 studs. The truck alone is about 50 studs (40 cm) long. The size of the containers, we agreed upon, was 15 x 15 x 37 studs (+1 for the door handles so 38 actually) and they represented 20 ft containers. As you can see from the photos, my semi-trailer could carry 2 of them. I used 1 PF L motor for propulsion and PF servo for steering. Another PF L motor was used for remote fifth wheel lock. It could be powered both with standard PF receivers and LEGO AAA battery boxes or with Buwizz. It was all hidden in the cabin’s sleeper. There was another AAA battery box on the trailer to power PF M motor for the trailer supports. Front axle is not suspended, but uses virtual pivot steering instead. It was the only way to make so tight mudguards above them and although steering angle is not the best, I think it did the job fine enough. Due to the bulky setup of servo and virtual pivot steering, I was a bit lazy under the hood, so there is nothing else there. I guess I could mock up some engine, but the way the hood was attached (it can’t be opened), it felt a bit pointless. There is some unrealistic pendular suspension on both rear axles, but I couldn’t do more on such a thin chassis. I used rubber connectors as dampers. Because the chassis is so slim, it slightly twists when throttle is applied. Here’s how this lady looks topless and below the skirt… There are some minor details in and on the the cabin, the sleeper was, as already mentioned, filled with electronics. Since this is a semi, it needs a fifth wheel, of course. It is remotely locked and I totally took the cream off of the brilliant 6x6 Truck with Tipper Semi Trailer by Pipasseyoyo, with great ratchet design for the lock. Ratchet for the fifth wheel lock below the sleeper… Fifth wheel + hitch/tow ball (I hope that’s what it’s called)... The trailer was built with Technic bricks - studs down and was sturdy enough for the two containers. It had its own receiver and battery box to operate the supports. The two tandem axles were damped with rubber connectors and adapted to the ground really well. Please forgive me for not filming the movement of the two . I hope the photos will suffice. URO 4x4 fire engine truck

These days all we have a lot of free time, excepting the public services, who are working working hard for us. This is an small tribute to all these people. The URO 4x4 is mainly used in Spain by the firefighters, but also for the UME (Military Emergency Unit). I´ve tried to replicate it with Lego Thecnic, but trying to get the closest appearance instead a lot os mechanism. Just suspensions and winch. Even with this, is so heavy! Aprox 3 Kg and more than 60 cm long. Hope you like it! And the original one. Really a big beast! -

I am a real fan of Lucio Switch, but I also like to do my own models. This one was based on Lucio 8x8 truck, but adding some personal touch. To be honest is a little bit fake. I run of of pieces and due of this, only one side of the model was completed. The brick consumption of this scale is terrible. I don´t know the exact number of bricks, but must be around 11000. ) electric motors, 4 x power function batteries and 4 x RC controls from the Volvo wheel loader. This model is very good looking, but absolutely senseless. Too big, too heavy and it squirms under its own weight. Next one will be smaller, for sure, but was a nice try. -

[MOC] Custom 4x4 Pick.up

Hello everyone !! This is my new Moc, a Custom 4x4 Pick-up, it isn't inspired by any real model, although it reminds me of some, but I don't know which one! I started some time ago to build a 4x4 where I used 2 RC Motors. To obtain good performance, I built it as a rc car ..... a chassis with a removable light silhouette that was mounted above it. It worked well, but I had some problems of interference in the system rc, and I was not able to make a good video without seeing an idiot running behind it at one meter away. So, waiting to buy two Lipo batteries, I decided to convert it to PF system (XL motors) and add some detail, since the first version was very simple to save some weight. So this is the result: It 'a 4x4 RC custom Pick up with three differentials and full independent suspensions. It has openable gull-wing doors via manual controls in the trunk, that's openable too, even the bonnet is openable with slowed opening. Under the bonnet, there is a fake working V8 engine with compressor on the top, some minor engine compartment details, like the battery or the radiator cap, and the complete exhaust lines. Even the interiors have a dashboard, pedals, gearbox command.... It uses a servo motor for steering and 2XL motors for drive. Lenght : 56 studs (44.8 cm) Width: 27 studs (21.6 cm) Height: 25 studs (20 cm) Weight: 2,1 kg I will add a video, hopefully during the Christmas holidays. I hope you enjoy! Hi all, My son and I have been working on a minifig/city scale automated side-loading garbage truck build for the last year or so. We've finally gotten it to the point where we'd like to share it and get feedback. The bin arm is operated by a knob and reaches out and grabs and dumps standard LEGO dust bins with a plate on the bottom. There is also a ram in the hopper that is operated by a second knob. It pushes the trash into the dumper: The inside of the dumper is smooth to allow the trash to dump out: We also made a video that shows the truck and functions in action. The video may show the functions of the truck more clearly than the pictures can: We're interested to get feedback on the build. Getting the bin arm to smoothly and reliably dump trash and integrating that and the ram into a compact build was definitely one of the big challenges. The truck with some "waste" bricks is about 450 pieces. This design was created and refined with bricks on hand over the course of more than a year and at least a dozen different design iterations. We then created a model in LEGO Digital Designer and used digital renders to visualize different colors. The custom printed tiles were created digitally using LDPatternCreator, using Bricklink's Studio tool and Blender with some custom lighting for the final digital renders and some animations. The video is partly digital rendering and partly live filming. For creating actual custom printed bricks, we made color laser prints of the designs, covered them with scotch tape and then gently washed the paper off using water, leaving enough stickiness on the tape to stick to the bricks. This was quick and easy and the tiles were durable enough to play/build with, so that worked very well for our purposes. The cab holds a minifig comfortably, and there is a a hand rail and ladder for another minfig to ride along. There are clips to hold tools for cleaning up as well. Volvo Crane Truck - 42078 C-model

Yes, another C-model of the 42078 set In the last 3 months I enjoyed my spare time in building a C-model of the 42078 Mack Anthem. My truck is an 8x4 flatbed version, with foldable crane behind the cab. I worked a lot on the cab shape, as already mentioned in @grego18f topic, who was building a Volvo FH too! It has opening doors but no tilting cab and no fake engine (I preferred a better looking cab than changing the shape to let the cab tilt). The crane is functional (all functions are manual), knobs are on both sides of the model. Main problem is the absence of the turntable. The crane is quite stable, but of course cannot load heavy loads. You can of course mod it adding a small turntable Outriggers control knob is on the back: I added 2 attachments: fake hook with chains, to move a small container, and forklift to move small pallets. Video: Model consists of around 1500 parts (so you have around 1000 leftover parts - mostly small parts and Lego System bricks). Hello, Let me present you a lorry/truck with a hand truck as an attachment for helping the crew to deliver the carried goods. It's based on one that I saw during last summer holiday. As personally I don't remember if I saw any like this before, it caught my eye and later back home I just had to build one my self. Main features that I wanted it to contain are, hand truck mounted in front of the cab, ability to sit two minifigs in the cab and dual wheels on rear axle. Hello i would like too present you my next truck an MAN TGS 8X8 The model features 8X8 drive via 2XL motors with 4 Speed gearbox which is shiftet via 1 M motor. Steering is done via 1 Servo motor. The model was build for good offroad performance and high power, it weights around 3kg. The maximum slope it can do was 60% which is 30°. It is also able too drive in the garden in the sand. The challenge was building a strong drive train with a 4 speed gearbox in the small space. The front axles are pendular as well as the rear, i testet the front even with springs but pendular worked for me better in the terrain. The model can even be driven with pf ir receveirs and battery box. The tipping is done via 1 L motor and a self build worm gear drive because a linear actuator was too big. This model is powerd by an buwizz which works great but also was challenging because i switcht mid building too it which meant i had too redo the gearbox many times because of the new power. [MOC] Volvo F12 Globetrotter log truck 1:10

Hi Lego friends! A short video of my Lego truck, a Volvo F12 Globetrotter log truck. I've been building it over the last couple of years, when money and energy has been present. It's close to 1:10 in scale and weight is 7,1 kilos. It's driven by two buggy motors and the steering is provided by one XL motor. Until the other day it also had a gearbox, but when making the video that gearbox failed utterly so I removed the whole thing and connected the motors straight to the axles for now. There's some more information in the video description if you are interested in the build. It's quite uncertain if I will work more on this truck or not, maybe it will be scrapped, but at least I wanted to share this short video of it here. Hope you enjoy! -
Hello everyone! I´m really happy to present you my next MOC, the Milka truck, which is my 6th remote controlled vehicle at minifig scale! I have built it between December 2018 and March 2019. I have already shown it on two Lego events in Germany, there is an article about it on Zusammengebaut and there is a video on Youtube, in which I am interviewed. It is in German, so if you understand it, it is worth to watch it! Unfortunately I have found only now the time to make some pictures and an own video: The video is a new record from me. It contains the most visual effects among my other videos. I was very happy during the making of it, because last time I have made only rarely videos. It was nice to spend a time again with the camera. It took a little bit longer, as I planned. Because of the complexity I had to record some parts not only once and it was very time consuming to create some scenes on the computer. I´m really proud of the result, hope you will like it, too. Till now it is the most simple and most difficult tiny RC from me at the same time. Simple, because the technic costruction inside is very compact. Difficult, because the modelling of the Scania front and the letters of the word “Milka” meant a really big challenge for me. Now you can find the electric parts just simply near each other in the truck, and the chassis is under the electric parts. It is only 3 studs high. Earlier in the same vehicles you could find 3 pairs of gears, which brought the power from the motor to the wheels. Now it is only 2 pairs. The servo motor for the steering is exactly there, where we need to have it. It can steers the wheels directly, without any long and big construction. The original plane was that I put the receiver or the battery box in the trailer, but finally I found a place for all the parts in the truck. For the chassis I have used a lot of half liftarms and small pieces of rigid hoses. They are very good here, because I can cut them in for example 1 or 1,5 stud long pieces, too. In the truck the battery box is exactly over the driven wheels, so the truck can go very reliable on terrains, which are unfriendly. I mean, it can go up to the pedestrian area in a Lego City and it can destroy everything. The whole truck contains approx. 1020 parts. Most of the bricks are in the body. You can read the world “Milka” on the sides four times, but all the four sides are different. It is changing, how I could fit the side panels, what kind of other parts they have to hold, or how many place I had in the truck near the motors or the other things. During the designing of the cabin, I was afraid, that it will be ugly with the big white panel on the top, but finally I think, it´s ok. Hello everyone! I finally finished my build, made the video, edited the video, aaaannnnnnndddddd..... POSTED THE VIDEO!!! I would like to say thanks so much to everyone who offered advice and critiques throughout the build process. Please read through the build log below for more information about the truck, but for now, please enjoy the video! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I started out with a bit of a classical Mad Max-style build... A hot-rod, with an oversized engine, and high suspension... And nice pointy bits sticking out all over the place. It has since morphed into a hot-rod mated with monster truck, sprouting a crane from the middle, on Claas tires and requiring 12 shock absorbers... And its motorized!
