    Train Station

I dreamed up a train station that I have been developing over the last couple months. I wanted to share it here, I hope you like it. Its gotten nearly 300 supporters so far on Lego Ideas. I hope if you like it, you could throw some support at it there. I show it with a couple passenger cars based on the Emerald Night train set, for scale. The platform roof is at just the right height. Its designed to stand alone, with attachment slopes along the platform to attach along regular track sections. There are lots of details from seating to a paper vending machine (I borrowed the idea from the Detective's Office set, though changed the colour scheme). Inside, on the ground floor is a lounge/pub area, and a ticket office and waiting area. Upstairs, on the 1st floor, is a cafe, with a cafeteria style setup to order, select food and pay, then go sit at tables. Its done in yellow and white, like some cafes I know of. There is a ladder that leads up 2 more levels into the tower, at the top of which is a 4 sided clock. The colours I used are dark orange with tan, windows in black, and some dark bluish gray accents around the cornices, and the roof of the tower. The platform roof is dark green. I am only attaching a few of the photos here, but there are more on the Ideas project page, if you are interested in more detail. Cheers https://ideas.lego.com/projects/107984 This last photo shows how its modular sections come apart in 5 sections.

    Ultra Agents Train (MOC)

Hi, Lego train lovers, this is, to the best of my knowledge, the first and only Ultra Agents (UA) Lego train, fully functional using Lego PF system. My grandchildren Laura & Filip and me adore UA sets (just discontinued this year, unfortunately) although they were not easily accessible in EU but somehow we found several sets. So we started playing from train cars and after three of them the engine to power the train was needed. The idea for perfect locomotive was found in the article on The Maglev Technological Revolution on the maglev.net web pages (http://www.maglev.ne...ical-revolution) where futuristic trains are illustrated by Ferdinand D. Ladera from DigitalHadz (second in the upper illustration on web page; I tried to contact Mr. Ladera by all possible e-addresses and networks but with no answer). Of course, our train model is not levitating as maglev one, it is using typical Lego train wheels. And here it is, the whole UA train (pictures with link to HR photo): (http://www.bricksafe...pg/1920x321.jpg), and UA locomotive itself (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg) and (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg), with Solomon Blaze’s hologram as a driver (lightened inside). There is (futuristic, of course) front door entrance to the engine (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg) and when fully opened, you can see Trey Swift in inspection on anybody trying to enter the train. (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg). From the back, Steve Zeal is appointed as a security guard (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg). First UA train car (from right to the left from the first photo above) is one having anesthetic gas chamber with fully asleep most dangerous villains Sharx and Terabyte, including Sharx’s dangerous remote controlled shark (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg). Second UA car is for prisoners (Toxikita, Invizable, Electrolyzer, and Antimatter) in chains and carefully observed by Mrs. Hydron and Max Burnes, (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg) while Jack Fury is inside his shuttle (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg). And the third UA car has secret chamber UAM/003 (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg) with Caila Phoenix on armory when fully opened (can rotate and shoot to any direction) (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg), and with Jack Fury’s twin brother in hyper vehicle and real Solomon Blaze in his headquarter with communication equipment to contact other UA officers (http://www.bricksafe...g/1920x1440.jpg). Short YT video is attached, as well ( ). Hope you like the train as much as we do. The next that we are just preparing to do is UA Train Station, of course. We will not be discontinued that easy. , &

    [MOC] R.C. Small Shunter

I've built this small engine for a harbor freight terminal layout that I've made. It is not a real locomotive replica. I admit that I am closer to the playability side and I prefer the works which keep more of a toy atmosphere :) This shunter was built on a 14 X 6 studs base and has enough space for the cables, I.R. receiver and the minifig. The access to the battery box is easy from the upper side and the communication between R.C. and I.R. receiver is perfect. More pictures could be seen here: https://www.flickr.c...157663795962040 LEGO R.C. Shunter 1 by Severus A, on Flickr LEGO R.C. Shunter 2 by Severus A, on Flickr LEGO R.C. Aardman Animations LEGO adverts?

One of the many companies Aardman Animations (the studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Creature Comforts) have made adverts for is LEGO. What is uploaded on YouTube by the Hall of Advertising channel is one advert done for Train... And one very impressive advert done for Pirates... But also, my Creating 3-D Animation book mentions a spaceman advert Aardman made that was similar to the Pirates one. I looked it up and yes, I found a Space advert with the same construction characters (2:30): But I've also seen listed in an interview a mention of producing advertising for LEGO Star Wars. This interview came out before Chicken Run and LEGO Star Wars came out in 1999 so it must have been in the franchises early years. http://www.telepathy.co.uk/aardman/culture/faqs.html Does anyone know of some early LEGO Star Wars advert with stop-motion in it?

    3mm hoses/bars

Hello, I have discovered that it would be great if TLG had a 2L bar/hose. the 3L bar/wand is great and the 4L light-sword is also great but a 2L bar would be amazing! What are people currently doing when they find themselves in need of a 2L bar? I have seen some that look like a 3mm hose that is 2L used as a foot rung on rolling stock with 2 droid arms. Like on this beautiful boxcar built by Cale Leiphart. https://www.flickr.c...mpoweredbricks/ Are you guys (purists close your eyes) cutting a 3mm hose from TLG or do you get a cheaper one from a hardware store and cut that to size? Just curious to know what people are doing. Thanks!

    MOC: EMD DDA40X (WIP)

EDIT: It's done (for now)!! Still waiting on a few more bricklink orders and several more hours bangin my head against my desk finishing decals in photoshop, but as my first MOC post & first post-darkage creation I was a little excited to show her to the world. Not 100% if I'll stick with #6936 because it's still running in UP's heritage fleet, or #6913 because its in Texas. As you can see the yellow is still off in the decals plus I have a few hundred more to apply but these are just the first ones I printed to fine tune the colors on my printer. I'll have HQ pictures on brickshelf in a few days once my camera comes back from repairs.

    [MOC] - Watchman's House

Hi everyone! If you recall the memories about my older buildings (Snack Bar, Airport Control Tower, Floriculture), you may realise, that all of them had a very detailed interior, and it was more attractive, than the exterior. Now I tried to create a building with a highly detailed overall look. And it has no interior, because I had to use the space inside for building different things, which keep the door, the windows and the chimney. After some brainstorming I found out, that I make something in the style of the old Hungarian railway buildings. There are a lot of interesting challenges at this topic. Stations, sheds, water houses, warehouses, etc. Finally I decided to build the wathman's house, because it is the smallest, and this size is still okay for my budget :) The next picture shows the house with my Siemens Taurus. Not exactly the same era - totally different :D but I think they look cool together! The pictures below show a lot of interesting things around the house, after them you can see the building tricks I used in or on the house. I'm really proud of two things. The first is the white MÁV (hungarian railway company) fence. It is possible to find it almost everywhere (picture of the real one). My Lego version is not perfect, a little bit different from the real one, but I guess, I cant do it better with Lego bricks. The fence is modular, and only the gravity holds it. Basic rule of Lego is 2 studs = 5 plates. It is not true. Theoretically it is possible to make an endless fence, but the truth is that only these five moduls are enough to create an ugly difference between the basement and the fence The second is the two bushes. They are also held by the gravity. I used this and this elements to create them. Furthermore there is an outhouse and a garden shower in the courtyard. Another interesting thing is the roof. I always used platebuilt roofs with hinges, but it is possible to create only a few angles with them, whithout a gap at the top, between the two half. But now I found out this new technique with technic pieces. More pictures are on MOCpages! Thanks for visiting!

    [MOC] 90-Degree Crosstrack

Hello all fellow train folks, today I have another MOC but it isn't a train, it is a track piece that we haven't been able to get in 10 years. Here it is more info to follow. 1). It has to be the same size as previous tracks. 2). It would need to use minimal parts and be easy to construct. 3). It would need to be as quiet as possible or be as quiet as standard Lego tracks when the train rolls over it. 4). It would have to be stable and would not fall apart in use. I hope you all enjoy my MOC and this track piece. I you feel inclined constructive criticism is always welcome! If you thought It was brilliant you can support it here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/131973
  10. Hi All, I have building question which I am hoping that you great train builders can help me with. I have decided to make my 6 wide carriages into 7 wide This is great as I can now have two rows of seats in the carriages. BUT, I can seem to me the ends work. I need an end door that is 3 studs wide. I have tried some snot techniques including a 1x1 brick and 5 plates to make up the remaining 2 stud width and have dabbled with all vertical plates but have a 1/2 plate width left each side. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance Yogi

    MOC - 4 wide AT&SF EMD F7

The EMD F7 was a 1,500 horsepower (1,100 kW) Diesel-electric locomotive produced between February 1949 and December 1953 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors (EMD) and General Motors Diesel (GMD). Although originally promoted by EMD as a freight-hauling unit, the F7 was also used in passenger service hauling such trains as the Santa Fe Railway's Super Chief and El Capitan. The F7's prime mover is a 16-cylinder 567B series Diesel engine developing 1,500 hp (1.1 MW) at 800 rpm. The 567B is a mechanically aspirated two-stroke design in a 45 degree Vee configuration, with 567 cu in (9.29 L) displacement per cylinder, for a total of 9,072 cu in (148.66 L).
  14. A little history: I was about to pull the trigger on the altBricks track. I literally had the content uploaded to Kick Starter but needed to tie up some loose ends before posting and then, BAM, the ME KS project was public. But alas still no metal track... I considered releasing the altBricks version at the same time but worried that the ME KS project already tapped the funds of the LEGO train enthusiasts. I figured out a way to make metal and plastic track relatively simple in one mold for all 4 curves (or 3 curves and 1 straight). It's a one piece track sections (like LEGO track) that is 100% connector compatible to LEGO track. The beauty of the altBricks system is that one simple machining process on industry standard HO nickle silver rail satisfies any radius curve or straight length. I made prototypes, a half dozen of these straight tracks and a 1/4 circle R88 (I think 8 segments) using ME rails and they all work fantastically. I would continue to do this for my whole home layout but its a big pain in the butt to retro-fit plastic rails and you tend to mess up 1 out of 6 times destroying the plastic track. The question now is do I make this process public domain? If so, I hope that if someone runs with the idea they pay me 3 full circles of each radius and some straights as royalty :-) Or should I do a Kick Starter project and have altBricks do this? A better idea is if the ME guys would agree to talk with me, they are the most logical company to do this and this solution can work in their system too. And my royalty seems pretty reasonable. :-) Your thoughts? Thanks, SteveB altBricks
  15. Hello, I am just starting with Lego trains but I am familiar with the trains. I already got HO and Merklin N trains. Here is what I got : Tracks only : 6 x 7499 Flexible and Straight Tracks 1 x 7895 Switching Tracks 1 x 7996 Train Rail Crossing Box : 1 x 60051 High-Speed Passenger Train 1 x 66374 City Super Pack 4 in 1 (damn, I just see I got 66405 not 66374) So : 6 x 8 + 4 + 20 = 72 straight 16 + 20 + 4 = 40 curves 1 crossing 6 switchings I got some goals for my track : - 2 trains can run at the same times - it can reverse a train - it can park unused wagons - One part is for *speed train* so with as few crossing as possible - A station stop track (where a train can stop allowing other to run) - Not a too large nor long layout (due to WAF) 3 meters long and as narrow as possible Due to Super Pack 66405, I will have use flex track (dont like them much) because 4 curves are missing. I will place the flex track in the reversing loop area. Any advice about my track layout is welcome !!! Current size is 2.88 m x 1.22 mm. Ps : Sorry for my poor English.
  16. Hello Everyone This is a pretty broad topic but I am looking for town (mostly vehicles, and construction sets along with small buildings), and also trains (12v and 9v era). If anyone has extras of these that they do not and have them at a REASONABLE price (I mean reasonable). Please either reply to this topic or preferably pm me. I am trying to build with older sets just because they are personally better looking and I am a collector of trains. Cheers, -RailCo

    9v motor tune-up tips?

Hello guys I am starting to get into 9v now and I have 5 motors. They all run at different speeds and some are slower when they first start but get faster when they have been running for a minute or two. I am wondering if anyone has tips and tricks to fix/tune up or clean the motors so that they all run at the same speed. They all run fine it's just some run slower. Thanks -RailCo
  18. Hiya guys! Hope you guys can help me out here. Is there a way to check how these train motors work? I've got two of the black ones. They seem to be complete. I'd love to know if they are in working condition, but I haven't got a clue how to check... I'm a nitwit when it comes to electronics I'm afraid U_U Hope you guys can help me out! Thanks!

  20. Haven't been doing much with Lego for the past couple of months. Had some time off school for December and have spent the last week working on this! I'm pretty pleased with it. Here's a reference pic to see what I was working off of.
  21. Hello, Does a lego train may be able to climb to the second floor on railroad ? yes, it can ! http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCL3kzO0bBjkvkAKOw4RgyxA Five days of work and optimization of the slope angle. It was so funny to do it with my son and daugher during christmas holidays. I hope you will enjoy. Michel.

    Winter Village: Holiday Express

Hi guys, This year I made a Holiday Express train under the Christmas tree. I think it would be nice if Lego made a new Holiday train set (like the 10173-1) to go with the winter buildings and bring back 9 volt for that matter. This is the first time I enter this contest, I hope you like it. Happy Holidays! Train approaching: The engine is operated by elfs: The passenger wagon with some passengers driving home for ''Christmas'': Some detail on the passenger wagon: A little freight car with trees, nothing too special: The Holiday Caboose: And lastly, some detail on the holiday caboose: Thank you for looking! Best regards, Rick
