    LDD MOC HMS Royal Oak

    LDD 16D Hello all, I`ve been working on a LDD ship a long long time, but they all have just grinded to a halt. Whit LoneBrickersSG`s topic and his first ship in LDD did really give me the spark. (A big thanks to him and the credits) So, I did copy the basic of the hull, and then modified it here and there till I was happy whit the result. The look has been heavily inspired by HMS Ontario which was 22 gun snow, serving in Lake Ontario during American Revolutionary War and did sank in a storm 1780, and was discovered again in 2008. Now, this ship does not have as many guns as HMS Ontario, one reason being that there's just not enough space, and that the bow is just one big piece. But it only lacks 2 cannons less that Ontario did. Im planning on coming back to this ship. Maby, perhaps building it in real bricks some distant future as i am becoming a father this June. So no time for Lego's really. I will try and work on the stern, as its too low and doesn't really please me at this moment, Also the bow will be made again, adding some guns, making Her just a bit longer and bigger perhaps. My goal on making ships is not to look extremely polished and pretty on the outside, but to make sure I would be able to do it in real bricks, and that it would be sturdy, so forgive the rather "Gruesome" look as im not a professional ship builder or anything.     Hello You

    Hi everyone, I'd like to introduce myself as (one more) huge Lego fan. I'm a bit old (42!!) but I played a lot with Lego when I was a kid. I still have a huge collection (at my parent's house, somewhere...). Now I just play electronicaly, because I have no time and room to buid the actual bricks. I put my creations on Lego Ideas website, under 2 or 3 different nicknames.   9. I made a similar post earlier today in the LDD/LDraw forum, and got some good responses, but am afraid I am missing the most important input from Technic builders. I have not used software in the past, and am wondering if I am missing an important part of building. I think I can add to my builds if I attempt using software, and therefore I would like to get others opinions in what they like best. I don't really work alot in anything else but Technic.... so, other people out there, what are your preferences? I gather that LDD and LDraw are the most commonly used, but I know there is MCAD and others. What are people's preferences?

For the past two days I've been experiencing a never-before-seen issue with Lego Digital Designer, and while I previously mentioned it in the bugs and brick errors topic, that got no response and I think the issue is significant enough to merit its own topic. Basically, whenever I try to save a new file on LDD, the program crashes. Generally this happens partway through saving, resulting in a tiny, unreadable LXF file with the name I had chosen for the new file. I can load, edit, and save previously-made LXF files just fine, but if I try to "Save As" under a new name, or save a new model for the first time, the program crashes. For reference, I'm using LDD 4.3.8, the current version (which I did try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if it fixed the issue—it did not). My computer is a mid-2012 15-inch MacBook Pro, running OSX Yosemite version 10.10.2. My computer was recently serviced at an Apple Store, where the AirPort wireless receiver was replaced, but I don't know how that could be to blame—particularly considering that saving new files with other programs works normally, and LDD itself functions properly apart from the inexplicable and crippling inability to save new files. Google has been no help at all in terms of finding a solution (or even anyone who can corroborate the issue), and while I have contacted Lego customer service to see if they could report the issue to the LDD team, I'm unsure whether they'll be able to figure out the cause of my problem. As such, any assistance from the Eurobricks community would be greatly appreciated!
  11. Hello All, First time poster to this specific area, longtime poster to the Technic genre..... Forgive me if there is already a post that answers my question, but I could not find one. I have never created anything in Lego with software. Always preferred to just work with the tangible blocks. However, now wondering if I am missing something and that Ldraw or LDD can help add something to my builds. Problem is, there appear to be so many programs out there.... which is the best? Which is the standard? What are the pros and cons of each system. I work primarily in Technic parts, so I don't know if one program is better than others for this genre. Is there a thread that describes all this stuff to beginners like myself? I also know there are other programs out there....just not sure which are the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    [LDD/POV-Ray] Warframe: Volt

    [Render] Volt by The Mugbearer, on Flickr Meet Volt, the electrifying space ninja aka Tenno from massive multiplayer online third-person shooter called Warframe. It's not entirely clear, whether Tenno are people that wear Waframe suits, or Warframes themselves, or some incorporeal presences that can switch between Warframes like bodies. The latter is logical if you think of it from a gameplay standpoint. Volt here, in addition to being one of the starting 'Frames, is a master of electricity, which is pretty obvious if you look at his name. Of course, I cannot show it without any sufficient special effects, and I will probably work on the image in Photoshop later, but at least you have now a good idea of what Volt looks like. I will also provide a screenshot with his front and back views. In his hand Volt holds his trusty Boltor nailthrowing machine rifle. For some reason I believe that Boltor is one of Volt's signature weapons. It oddly fits him.   14. Hello there, lately i've been working on a software for creating good looking building instructions for LDD models, that is called Blueprint. The program is in a very alpha stage, but some basic functionality is somehow there. I'd like to test it on some different graphic hardware to see if it runs. Is there anybody kind enought to donate some time? Must have some minimal tech skill, like knowing what a stacktrace is, using the command line, configuring java versions etc. and some patience. My LDD just started updating itself with the 4.3.8 patch, so I wanted to ask: am I late for the party or is it something new? If it's new, who knows what are new features and bricks? I guess I would try to find them myself and post a screenshot, so let's start a discussion of a recent patch!

    [LDD] The Black Pearl Project

    LDD/MLCad 15D The Black Pearl Project - A joint venture by Courleciel and Papacharly EDIT April 1st 2015: Black Pearl mpd-file is available now. Please also note the relevant post #15 below! End of last year I had been invited by Courleciel to join a project he already started. The goal of this project was to virtually build the Black Pearl from the Lego video game “Pirates of the Caribbean” and, in a second step, to “make great renderings”. At this time the ship had already been built by Courleciel in real bricks. Starting point for this project was an “old” lxf-file (Lego Digital Designer) by captainjack. The virtual model was significantly optimized by Courleciel so as to make it more accurate and complete. A lot of parts have been repainted, some new elements were added (such as anchors, bell, grating, cannons...), and some were adjusted or rebuilt (like the capstan, figurehead, lanterns, masts...). After the model was nearly completed, the LDD file was converted to the LDraw format and my job started. According to Courleciels conceptual work I added rigging, rails, ropes and strings by using SR3D Builder and MLCad/LSynth. Sails were directly created in povray. Additionally it was necessary to manipulate some original LDraw parts (e.g. # x1609 batarang, see stern) to make them authentic with regard to the video game. Finally we decided on all setups for being rendered. All renders have status “as rendered”. There was no “photoshopping” applied, aside from scaling down and anti-aliasing. I have not counted all the hours I spent working on this project. But doing all the work Courleciel and me had a lot of fun. So we hope that you also will enjoy our work and have some fun too. And here is the outcome of our project:: First we have some technical renders of the Black Pearl. Then we show some movie scene remakes. For all those which are not familiar with “Pirates of the Carribean”, please find the original movie scene respectively an original video game screenshot below each rendering.   19. Hey all, I'm finally getting around to sharing one of my latest MOCs, a Norfolk and Western GE U30B. The U30B is a four-axle second-gen diesel-electric locomotive produced between 1966 and 1975. 296 units were built for 12 railroads, of which 110 went to the N&W. With the U30B I wanted to make a "no compromises" Power Functions locomotive. I felt that my first three Pf implementations had gotten progressively better, but that they all still suffered from what I considered various compromises like not being able to change gear ratios or not being able to easily replace batteries. The no compromises loco would have to hit these checkboxes: good PF visibility easy to change batteries high structural integrity max traction/power for given form factor ability to use different PF motors/change them ability to use different gear ratios/change them Given these constraints, I chose the N&W U30B because it was one of the last modern diesels to have 1) a high short hood, which I really like, and 2) 4-axle trucks which are more easy to make with more structural integrity than 6-axle trucks. Those being said, U30Bs for other railroads were built with low short hoods, and the 6-axle U30C was twice as popular as the U30B. After a few months of on and off development and construction, this loco was completed in February, just in time for locomotive power testing! At my usual scale of 15" per stud, the 1100 part loco is 8-wide and a whopping 51-long from magnet face to magnet face - the longest I've ever made. The construction isn't really anything to write home about: like my HH1000, most of the model is studs up with large tiled plates forming the detail on the sides. The handrails are made of a third-party tubing, which isn't quite as good as flex, but orders of magnitude cheaper. There is one slightly clever bit where the roof has been raised by 1LU in order to not have a ridge between the "plate with bow" and the "roof tile" and said 1LU gap is filled with a bracket: But the real question is: how does it fair with regard to my original requirements? The PF receiver sits at the end of the loco with the dome exposed - I consider this generally the best case for PF; reception from the front isn't quite as good as it could be, but I'd rather have that than the top of the receiver sticking up further. As with my previous two PF diesels, I have used the big AA battery box in order to get the most amount of energy into the loco without going to a custom power source. This drives two L motors - the biggest motors you can fit in a 5-wide body - connected to a V2 receiver. The battery box is secured by two "crossaxle 3M with knobs". Pulling off the sides (which are connected with about 6 studs) and pulling out these pins allows the box to drop out the bottom. Similar to a Real modern diesel, most of the structural integrity is in the frame (blue), which is just a big mesh of big plates. Furthermore, the battery box is mounted to a set of technic beams (green) which rests on the gearboxes (yellow): the weight prevents the gearboxes (which are just studded together) from coming apart when a lot of torque is applied. But those L-motors are pinned into the gearboxes with a pattern (red) such that M motors would also work! And E motors! And I have left enough space and connection such that the old geared motor with the appropriate extra reduction could also be used (I think). Finally, the motors are oriented such that the drivetrain has an extra stage (green) where gears of different sizes can be used and the gear ratio changed. This screencap shows 3:1, but in practice I have been using 5:3 with the 20-tooth and 12-tooth bevels, which I find to be a better balance between speed and torque.   20. I'm a big fan of police cars, and the Lego Movie uses one that I intially thought was custom made for the movie. This is the four wide police car that is used mostly in background scenes, though it does show up en masse after the escape from Bricksburg. After spending some time reverse engineering it from the various scenes, I realized that the model is actually a slightly modified civilian car that was released in 2012 as 4435 Car and Caravan (the trailer hitch is the giveaway) with influences from 4436 Patrol Car. The car appears to be Black and Light Grey in the movie, which I changed to white because some of the main parts don't exist in light grey, such as the wheel arches. I also added red and blue lights behind the main headlights, though these were my personal preference. Interestingly enough, the roof piece in black does not yet exist and won't until the release of 60097 City Corner later this year. When that set is released, I'll be building several of these to put in my own town. EDIT: Turns out Mark2 has an error in the lights. Instead of using two 99780 Inverted brackets and one 1x2 plate, it should have been one Bracket 1x2 - 1x4 and two 1x4 plates stacked on top of each other. Mark5 has this corrected.     I had to get in on the FebRovery action... Nothing too crazy, but a rover none the less. A little something I did up in LDD for my Neo-Classic Space fleet based off the older little space buggies and rovers TLG released. Hope you like it!

Before we begin this topic, here are some notes: -some of these builds have LDD files, most do not. -Most of these models should probably go in the Town forum, but they were built for Johnny's time period, so here they are. -I personally think that Johnny Thunder was mentioned to be set from about 1920 to 1924. Jake Raines from Pharoph's Quest was from 1922 (that is officially when it was, as stated by LEGO), so in my version Jake is a former student of Kilroy at the University where the good doctor taught until his untimely death in early 1925. (after Orient Expedition ended) Johnny & Jake met at the Kilroy's funeral, and eventually went adventuring along with Major Quentin Steele, who happens to be Lords Sam Sinister's old commander in World War 1. (Major Steele is from Monster Fighters, set around 1921.) With these points in mind, let's join Johnny and his friends in a never ending battle against the Sinister forces of evil... In the early 1920's, inquisitive minds and hardy souls, both good and evil, scour the corners of the Earth looking for lost civilizations and vast treasures.
