    [LDD] The Black Pearl Project

LDD/MLCad 15D The Black Pearl Project - A joint venture by Courleciel and Papacharly EDIT April 1st 2015: Black Pearl mpd-file is available now. Please also note the relevant post #15 below! End of last year I had been invited by Courleciel to join a project he already started. The goal of this project was to virtually build the Black Pearl from the Lego video game “Pirates of the Caribbean” and, in a second step, to “make great renderings”. At this time the ship had already been built by Courleciel in real bricks. Starting point for this project was an “old” lxf-file (Lego Digital Designer) by captainjack. The virtual model was significantly optimized by Courleciel so as to make it more accurate and complete. A lot of parts have been repainted, some new elements were added (such as anchors, bell, grating, cannons...), and some were adjusted or rebuilt (like the capstan, figurehead, lanterns, masts...). After the model was nearly completed, the LDD file was converted to the LDraw format and my job started. According to Courleciels conceptual work I added rigging, rails, ropes and strings by using SR3D Builder and MLCad/LSynth. Sails were directly created in povray. Additionally it was necessary to manipulate some original LDraw parts (e.g. # x1609 batarang, see stern) to make them authentic with regard to the video game. Finally we decided on all setups for being rendered. All renders have status “as rendered”. There was no “photoshopping” applied, aside from scaling down and anti-aliasing. I have not counted all the hours I spent working on this project. But doing all the work Courleciel and me had a lot of fun. So we hope that you also will enjoy our work and have some fun too. High resolution “technical renders” showing the conceptual work of Courleciel can be found here. For high resolution images of the movie scenes click here. And here is the outcome of our project:: First we have some technical renders of the Black Pearl. Then we show some movie scene remakes. For all those which are not familiar with “Pirates of the Carribean”, please find the original movie scene respectively an original video game screenshot below each rendering. Here comes a remake of a video game screenshot: Two movie scenes from part 1 "The Curse of the Black Pearl": Movie scene “Pantano River” from part 2 "Dead Man’s Chest" Two movie scenes “Locker” from part 3 "At World’s End" Last but not least we have an atmospheric and maybe kitschy sunset render which is not related to any movie scene.
  3. Here is "my" Flying Dutchman. I say "my" because, while I didn't design it, what you see in the video is indeed mine. The MOC itself was designed by Brickstuct.
  4. Ahoy, seamates! I have started my LEGO-Ideas Project 2-3 months ago and now I want to present it to the specific lego pirates community! Would be nice to get your suppport but even more I am looking for some advice what I can improve on it. SUPPORT NOW Please take a look on the ideas website or at my flickr https://flic.kr/s/aHsmMnLn6a for more fotos! Here is the text from ideas: Welcome on board of The Rolling Dutchman! Since I have been a child I always wanted to control my LEGO Red Beard Runner without pushing it around and now my dream has come true. I have build a motorized Version of the famous Flying Dutchman which is my favorite pirate ship, too. I have seen the original swedish Vasa which has given the idea for the Dutchman with its marvelous bow and stern. So I managed to combine them with my own creative ideas into this "rolling" Dutchman! Please have a look at the features in the video and the pictures! Video: Update 2: Thanks for your 1k supports so far! I have worked on the main picture a bit and now added a picture of the crew and one showing the functions as well. Update 1: New rotten Sails! (Picture 7+8+Video still with the first sails) Motorized Features: Rolling movement caused by waves (1. M-Motor) Two motorized triple-barrelled chasers in the bow (1. M-Motor) Motorized steering with simoultaneously rotating ship´s wheel, rudder and steering mechanism (S-Motor) Motorized movement for- and backward (L-Motor) Motorized sail trim with turning capstan and changing sail position of all square sails (M-Motor) All features can be controlled by rc-control via 4 channels and two receivers All features use the Power-Function System but could easily be adapted to the new Control+ System which can lead to advanced handling of the functions The battery box can slide out easily to switch on/off and change batteries General Features: Minifigures: Davy Jones, Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth, Bill Turner, Barbossa and more. (I am not familiar with the movies in english so I would like to ask you to tell me the names in the comments section!) Two decks with cannons (one side the lower deck is closed to store the motors) The two tripple-barreld chasers can manually slide backwards and then the gun ports can be closed Removable deck at the stern to take out the steering wheel Removable lower balcony´s on both sides Handmade sails Two functional anchors Upper cabin minifigure size with Jack stealing the heart (illuminated) Lower cabin with Davy Jones organ (illuminated) Two torches at the stern (illuminated) The capstan can be removed The ship is based on the sturdy hull parts, the complete 2 lower rows of bricks can be removed with the steering and driving wheels to use it as "normal" push forward ship or display model The main mast and the mizzen are both slightly tilted backwards Correct rigging and sails due to the movies The ropes between the masts can be removed easily to take them apart for transport It would be an honor to receive your support. Aye! I have to thank my friend J-H to help me with some motorization problems and a special thanks to my girlfriend for not freaking out! Thanks, yours Störtebricker from Hamburg, Germany SUPPORT NOW
  5. This pirate ship is Captained by a pirate ancestors of Spongebob Squarepants (as Captain Bob "The Sponge" Squarepants), Patrick Star (Rick "No-beard" Star the lazy pirate lookout), Sandy Cheeks (Miss Cheeks, a fierce hand-to-hand fighter) and Squidward Tentacles, (Mr. Tentacles, the helmsman and reluctant pirate recruit) Mr. Krabs is another pirate, but off course he has his own ship, the Krusty Krab. The Silver Crab is a ship wanted by Captain Krab's, for a treasure map he engraved into the helm's wheel long ago. (unknown to everyone, however, is that bluecoat Commodore Plankton is stalking Captain Krab's ship for stealing what was originally his treasure... which is now locatable because of said engraved map on Captain Squarepants' ship.) Confused enough yet? The pirate ship has six non-firing cannon barrels, with a movable rudder and a rear sail that swings back and forth. (Miss Cheeks mini-figure's head is not in LDD, so she's headless in the first picture) The ship itself is based off a MOC of the Dying Gull from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise. (specifically Dead Men Tell No Tales) Here is the instructions page where I bought them from. (That is the only MOC I've seen of the PotC ship in question, by the way.) This ship will be bought after the current ones on order are finished. (The Minecraft ship, the tavern, and the palm tree parts should arrive here very soon.) ...and yes, the whole story and background info just came out of imagination as written. No wiki sources were consulted, just what I could remember from watching the TV show when I was younger. Any thoughts, comments, and questions? (This ship will go with my other ships in my pirate port, by the way. I'm trying to cover every corner I can think of) Comparison with the MOC it is based on What are your thoughts on this build?

    CMFs for former themes

Imagine if LEGO brought back any of your favourite themes like The Simpsons, LOTR or POTC for a CMF series. Who will you choose to be in that said series.

    [MOC] The Black Pearl

The Black Pearl I built this for Innovalug's Style it Up contest, where the prompt was to build something, anything, with only one color. So after contemplating many colors and subjects (spaceship, dragon, etc.) but ultimately rejecting them all, I started building a ship. Then, since my color was black, I settled on the Black Pearl of Pirates of the Caribbean fame as a reference. She's not a perfect likeness, as I did not bother with all of the gunports and other details like that, as it would have been beyond my collection at this scale, but I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. C & C welcome.
  8. Hello fellow builders, I present you the Flying Dutchman, the infamous ghost ship from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, in LEGO! The idea came to me a year ago, while I was sitting at my desk when I cast me eyes upon the 3 official LEGO POTC ships on the top of my shelf: The Black Pearl, The Queen Anne's Revenge, and The Silent Mary. For years I had been waiting for LEGO to release a Flying Dutchman, but to no avail it never came out. Determined to build the ship myself, I embarked on an exciting, challenging but rewarding journey to produce a MOC which would take up its rightful place among my fleet and make it complete. More information can be found here at LEGO IDEAS. If you like it, feel free to support! Here are some renders below (more can be found on my Flickr page): LEGO Flying Dutchman - 1 by Scarvia LEGO Flying Dutchman - 2 by Scarvia LEGO Flying Dutchman - 4 by Scarvia And with the crew: LEGO Flying Dutchman - 6 by Scarvia The infamous triple-barrelled chasers in the bow: Triple-barrelled chasers (Out) by Scarvia Triple-barrelled chasers (In) by Scarvia Thank you for your time.

    Flying Dutchman

It is finally completed, took me long enough . Let's start with some history; Now, back to the present; I had some help from my sister to spice up those first 4 pictures . The prow underwent a lot of changes since the last version, it took me a while to get to something I was satisfied with. It is one of the more difficult parts of the famous ghost ship after all. A small but very important addition is the original Davy Jones minifigure, to serve as captain. For your information, that one was quite expensive . There were a lot of changes on the stern and poop deck. It began with some structural changes (because it kept breaking apart) but later also characteristic details were added, such as Dead watching over the ship and the flippers on the galleries. Apart from the minifigures there is only one black part on the ship, which is the compass on the steering wheel. Excluding the colour black from the colour scheme was essential. The one aspect that the new version did not improve on is interior access. While the previous version had a complete interior I sacrificed main gun deck for structural reinforcements. The port side of the ship was also finished (previous version was open on one side). But I did keep the captain quarters, with some changes though. The cabin can be accessed by taking out the poop deck. On the previous ship the stern was usually a disaster whenever I moved this ship. It's a lot more stable now. Yep, I'm quite satisfied with this one. Time to move on to a new project . Video

    HMS Endeavour/Dauntless WIP

The HMS Endeavour/Dauntless from the official Lego Pirates Of The Caribbean game. I tried to make it look as much like the game model. Took around 40 hours to build including playing the Port Royal level over and over. Modular decks for easy disassembly. Doesn't have an interior yet. Any suggestions? And when I try to import it from stud.io it says 0 parts on my baseplate and wanted list (see pictures). Want to buy the parts via bricklink. Cant upload pictures due to size limit of 0.1MB.
  11. Hello new member here. So I was thinking about making a moc of Port Royal. However watching the first pirates of the caribbean movie the dock Jack gets on from his sinking boat does not match the dock where he is swinging from the cranes. I could be wrong about this though. I tried to search on google but could not find that there is two docks or more. It looks like there is 1 long dock coming out from the beach that splits into a "y" at the end but the cranes on the upper level is no where to be seen in that clip. Hope I explained it well enough. Does anyone have any pictures that could help?
  12. This is my version of the "Capstan Hammer" of the Flying Dutchman (cf. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gp73EZdObM) if you want to see the mechanism in action visit https://imgur.com/a/g2uad because I cannot upload more than 0,1 MB :/ The most challenging part was to construct the inner part in such a way that it rotates along with it, but can also be lifted and falls down abruptly. In addition, the mechanism should be kept so small that it can be installed in a normally dimensioned ship. Although the rotary movement of the hammer during lifting is not exactly the same speed as that of the capstan, I am still quite satisfied with the result.

    Unnoticable ship interiors needed

So, i have been looking around and have been playing around with my lego silent mary. But sadly unlike other ships, it had no detachable roofs or spaces. I know you can't make a lower floor in this set because y'know... giant broken floor wich is now the zombie sharks' private apartment. But why couldn't they make a captain's hut? Because i'm not good at making unnoticable changes (especially in this set) and my lack of lego building skills are truly disturbing, i haven't yet started. How did all of you tackle this major drawback? And if you somehow made a living space out of the captains hut, what are your other mods to this set? thank you for your time

    Silent Mary Interior

Altough i'm not here to post my moc today, i'm asking any of you for a possible link to a tutorial to see of i can turn that back castle thingy at the end of the silent mary set into an accesible space without many bricks or without ruining the design too much. I've gotten the set and tought something was missing. The living quarters of course. Seeing as tough the hull was completely exploded, i tought i could make a cabin for captain salazar. Only problem is: i don't know how i can mod it. That's actually the only reason i'm on this site righ now. I've searched the internet but there's no tutorial for how to make it an accesible space. (Yes this is my first post and i don't know how i need to form a good comment yet) (please don't ban me for this admins)

    The Mermaids Of Whitecap Bay

Hi everyone I present you my last creation, the lighthouse of Whitecap Bay and its mermaids, I was inspired by this picture "Aye, Whitecap Bay! Every worthless seaman fears the name, and rightly so, though few know why or dare to ask." "Be the stories true?" "Say what robs you of your staunch heart Gibbs, or forever leave it to the whiter fields of fancy." Sorry for the quality of the photos but I'm not a photographer! I hope you enjoyed my work!

    Hello from Colorado

Hello everyone! I've been visiting this website for quite some time now, as well as many other Lego related sites. I've been a Lego enthusiast, fan, addict & AFOL, off and on for probably 20 years... I've gone through a couple "dark periods", but i'm finally in it for the duration... Don't know if I have a favorite theme, but I seem to always come back to Classic Castle, Classic Pirates and Classic Space, in no particular order. As far as current themes, my favorite is unquestionably Lord of the Rings / Hobbit.... followed by Pirates of the Caribbean. Others that I've really dug are Aquanauts / Hydronauts / Aqua Raiders, Vikings and Western.... I seem to gravitate towards the, what I describe as, the "escapist" themes... I also really like a lot of the MOC's that I've seen here, and at the Classic-Castle, & Classic Pirates web sites. There sure seems to be a lot of talent here, and one of the main reasons I'm joining up here is that I hope to learn a lot about building my own creations... Looking forward to posting!
