  1. I came up with the idea to build a robot that can get me a beer or soda from the fridge while I'm watching Die Hard... I'm building it completely from Lego Technic, mostly studded. I use my own designed electronics to control the motors, pneumatic valves and read out the sensors. It saves me hundreds of Euro's by not using the NXT platform ;) Next to that: the NXT platform is not as flexible as other programming platforms. I have been busy with it for a few months now and there were some problems to be solved so I've divided "the project" in smaller goals: 1. Get the rover over a bump in the living room (success!) There's a nasty bump between the kitchen and the living room. Since the robot is going to be well over 10kg, I had to find a way to get it over the bump. The solution was to use caterpillar tracks (the robot needs to be able to turn around its own axle) with on top of that studless beams for extra grip. I've put some filt on top of the beams so my wooden floor doesn't get damaged. Video 1: 2. Make the robot move sideward to be able to position itself (success!) Not being sure about the precision of the tracks, I need the robot to be able to move sideward for positioning itself in front of the fridge (to be able to grap the handle). I designed a pneumatic system with 8 pistons that push down 8 wheels, that lift up the robot just a bit. That way the robot can move sideward, which is impossible with caterpillar tracks. As you will see in video 3, the accuracy of the distance sensors is good enough that the robot doesn't need to move sideward. If the system isn't needed when the robot is completed, I could remove it. Video 2: 3. Indoor navigation: make the robot find its way to the frigde, couch and back (success!) Using 4 ultrasonic distance sensors and a digital compass, I make the robot navigate around the house. It works just perfect! Video 3: 4. Think of a way to make the robot open the fridge I'm working on this one now. This one is by far the hardest to complete. I have already a pneumatic system that can grab the handle and open the fridge a few centimeters by setteling itself against the fridge. As you know: sometimes the fridge door is a bit stuck and you need some force to open it. Grabbing the handle and just drive backward doesn't work because of the height of the robot. Right now I need to find a way to open the fridge door further and move the robot to the inside side of the door. This is tricky and I haven't figured it out yet. If you have any suggestions: let me know! Further things to do: 5. Make the robot able to grab a can of beer/soda 6. Make the robot do the whole thing: getting out of hibernation, getting a beer, bring it to the couch and go back to the hibernation spot 7. Design an Android app that communicates with the robot through Bluetooth so I can order a beer from the couch

    Huge Moc Tow Mater

My 8-year old son likes this and I wish every kid or kidult also likes this. Mind you... it rolls. In each of the big wheels made of black plates there hides 4 real tiny wheels. In the first glance these wheels (16 in total) can't possibly support this giant vihecle but the headache is resolved with the proper use of technic liftarms. Want to see it rolls? Watch this: https://www.facebook...&type=3 This link below shows how the wheels are made. Sorry, I don't have much time to write in the meantime. This website is in Chinese but the pictures speak themselves: http://www.minifigs....highlight=Mater
  4. I saw this cool, modular '57 Chevy Monster Car by Paul Boratko on YouTube -- it looks like a mini 1957 Chevy done in Lego Technic style! He has a goal to design more bodies that can work with the same Monster chassis. Full description on MOCpages: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/368561 . 8. Hi everyone. I'm a new member here. I thought people into digital Lego might be interested in some of my 3D Lego models. I made all of the parts with Cinema 4D. There are no imported LDraw / Leocad parts although I did bring a few parts exported from Leocad into Cinema 4D to take measurements before producing my own high resolution versions. I've also got the real Lego model of all of these and also took measurements from the actual parts as not all parts are available in Leocad. The stickers on the buggy are scanned from the original stickers. I'm working on my own design for a variation. I'm happy to answer any questions. Some of the parts like the red fairing panels and rims took up to 20 hours each to model. Fortunately for these fairing panels I was able to modify the first one to produce the others. The buggy and Backhoe are fully rigged and functional. The enjoyment for me is the modelling process. I've now built up quite a library of highly detailed parts so don't have to start from scratch with each new model. Besides the 2 models below I've done a couple of less complex models. These were my first efforts at modelling Lego parts. You can see them in my personal gallery. Enjoy 8048 buggy side view. Just over 2 million polygons. Mainly due to the edges being bevelled. 12. Hi, I have two idler/clutch gears on an axle with a clutch between them, how do I have both gears spinning when the gear lever is in 'neutral/middle' but when the clutch is put into gear 1 or gear 2 only that one spins.? Obviously more axles and gears will be underneath the above setup since its a gearbox. Note that I cant put any more gears on the same axle as the clutch as: 1 it slides with the clutch, through the idler gears 2: the axle isn't long enough Maybe a differential can sort this I'm not sure, its really hard to picture it out mentally but I'm sure its possible, I know that a differential can have just the pinion gears or everything rotating. I don't want to use any more clutches as the gear lever already is using 4/5 of them and its very wide as it is. Here is the split/assembled model, grey and black parts are technic nuts and threaded axle.
  13. I was wondering whether Lego would ever reintroduced branded Technic Sets. And I'm not talking about Ferrari, Williams or Lamborghini. From memory I can only recall there being a few Technic star wars characters, but never any vehicles. So my questions to you guys are do you think we'll see it anytime soon, and if so what would you like to see? I'd personally like a Batman Tumbler and a BTTF DeLorean that lights up like a Christmas tree.
  14. Hi guys, my 1st post/question, does any one know how to make alternating flashing lights like a railroad crossing has? (Flashes left-right-left-right) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z9pAUemAw4 Or even to make flashing lights like this: Heres a video of a railroad crossing: Thanks.
  15. Good day, I'm new here at Eurobricks, but I've been building with technic for a couple of years now. Here is a preview of my latest moc that I've been working on. Once I complete it I will post a video and more pictures. If you want to see other mocs I've built in the past they are mostly here. http://www.youtube.com/user/landonsnxtnstuff Oh yeah... I'm not really a huge fan of ford, but nobody else has really built this truck so I thought I would give it a shot. Four Speed Gearbox! (controlled by 2 pf large motors, and driven by 2 NXT motors) Realistic Pneumatic power steering. And last of all a cool little ford emblem I came up with.
  16. Hi Eurobrickers. Apologies if this has been posted already; this popped up on Brick RSS today and it looks like a decent new resource to sit alongside Brickset and the other LEGO review sites, as they do some cool comparisons between new and old sets. Lego Set Review Library Ape
  17. Hi! I'm a Technic builder located in Western Massachusetts. If you're in the area - especially in the Pioneer Valley - let me know!
  18. Came up with this the other day. After looking and looking could not find anything of the sort. So I tinkered for a day or so and came up with this: My Linier 4 Speed Gearbox. Orange is the output. Red and Yellow(yellow) are the input. you can use either one. Blue and Green are for the shift lever. The shift lever you need and for the off set of the axle. The green and blue are just for referance. The axle for the shift lever is a 12L and 6L axle with a connecter and can be in , , or , and using or in any combonation for your install. I got a some more pictures you can see. will post when the folder is public. P.S. the shift lever can be on either end.
  19. Hi Everyone! Just thought I would document my rc motor disassemble, due to bad "cracking" sounds, and show how I managed to take it apart with minimal damage as possible. I thought it was due to lack of grease inside, but this turned out not to be true. It was in fact a loose gear on its pin, as you can see below. It was extremely difficult to take apart and a lot of force was required!! and at this stage i have no idea if it will go back together nicely and still work at all. Seeing the condition that it is in, and the sound it makes from this loose gear, I would recommend if anyone else hears the same thing to just put up with it! haha Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated, as it will only get worst with time. I have considered filling it with heavy grease, or make a very thin metal sleeve for the gear. This was a brand new motor purchased from BL. 20. You may have seen the detailed reviews of the upcoming 41999 4x4 Crawler Exclusive Edition Set. 21. As an example of one of my earliest efforts of large-scale Technic projects, I thought I'd share this here - my (now dismantled) Ferrari FF. After scrapping my 599 Ferrari a couple of years ago, I long pondered about what I should rebuild it into. That is, until I found out about arguably the most unusual Ferrari of them all... the FF. I loved it. So, I had to build it. Ferrari FF by Octav_spot, on Flickr I have to say, the cable Technic parts came in handy to emulate the FF's curvy shape... I just wish I had more of them. FF Profile 3 by Octav_spot, on Flickr Since, y'know - it looks kinda naked... FF Headlamps by Octav_spot, on Flickr I'd spent hours on the FF's front-end - so, as a result, it was my favorite part of the whole car - If I stared hard enough at it, I could almost look past the gaps in the fenders and see the FF's sloping LEDs... FF Profile 2 by Octav_spot, on Flickr All in all, I was fairly pleased with this MOC. It had all-wheel-drive (albeit, via two separate XL motors, one in front, one in back) and despite its size, it was relatively light. And even though the FF is all but gone now, it was enough to get me thinking about possibly trying my hand at the stunningly-beautiful 458 Italia... Anyway, Enjoy! :D
  22. Hi New user to this forum and have only been collecting technic lego for the last few years. What I would like ot ask is:: Has anyone ever designed a container truck that picks up the 20ft contacter that you see on the docks? If so could they please point me in the right direction on how to go about designing and creating the model for myself. Regards
  23. Hi I am looking at doing some MOC's but I first need ot purchase some more IR kits and motors (all sizes) and other parts. Can anyone point me in the direction of good websites to purchase from.
  24. Hello everyone! This is my newest lego creation, the tow truck from Johnny English. The truck is completely remote controlled. It has six functions, but only four motors. Two L motors and one M motor drive the functions, and one M motor drives the gearbox. At first you can control the steering, the driving and the outriggers, after using the gearbox the crane’s rotation, the height and the length. The truck is 47 cm long and 15 cm wide and very heavy and crammed with gears, motors, gears, axles, beams and gears... I made a funny video, which shows how the truck works (with real speed), but has a story, too! :D You can find more pictures and a description about the crane on my mocpage: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/365406 Thanks for watching!
  25. Finally, as the title says, felt like it was time. But I think it was tired of hide in the big mess on the table. It's more like a version 0.5 in the pictures, but have improved it some. I will need to improve it in time, but its a start for now. Sorry I'm lazy and didn't resize them so I could put some in the post. They are just teasers. Don't want to show to much yet. And here they are!
