Neo Classic Moon base MOC- WIP

Hi! I have started a long term project of a giant neo-classic space moon base. I would love to hear your thoughts. https://flic.kr/p/2gBg1Rb https://flic.kr/p/2gCSzwR https://youtu.be/DjOe9c89BD4
  2. Hello everybody! It's been a while since my last creative input here, my apologies. Thus I am very happy to share something with you again. Besides mini model building, I am also a great fan of alternate building with the 3in1 Creator sets. These often come with a great parts variety and are a great source of inspiration. I very much like building alternate models with the whole parts of these sets to go beyond the official builing proposals, but not so this time! Today I would like to show you what can be done with the leftover pieces once you built one of the official building proposals. The set 31066 Space Shuttle Explorer was released in the year 2017 and unfortunately already disappeared from the market. However it is still widely available via online shopping. The set contains 274 pieces plus 12 extra parts, and has instructions for 3 main models: Space Shuttle (no leftover pieces) Surface Station (97 leftover pieces) 6-wheeled Rover (127 leftover pieces) Looking at the big number of leftover pieces, a new idea comes to mind: Additional models from the leftover pieces instead of new alternate models! The idea was to create an entire small space theme becasue there was none in the year 2017. Of course this entire project seems meaningless with regards towards the new official city space theme released in the new catalogue 2019. But I will share the general idea with you anyway. Image 1: Primary model - Space shuttle, no leftovers. Image 2: Secondary Model - Surface Station, 97 leftover pices! Image 3: Space Hopper built from the leftover pieces of the official surface station model. Image 4: Space Hopper and Surface Station. Image 5: Secondary Model - 6-wheeled Rover, 127 leftover pices! Image 6: Communications Antenna built from the leftover pieces of the official Rover model. Image 7: Communications Antenna and Rover. Image 8: The complete space theme consisting of 3x set 31066. So when you build a different model besides the primary model, have a look at the leftover pieces, there's lots of potential in them! Have a good time and happy building! ~ Chris

  4. The Martian rover "Pilgrim" is a heavy multi-role vehicle designed for deep exploration of Mars, built by the Lego Space Agency, it has unique characteristics. is an AWD rover equipped with an efficient suspension system, designed for a crew of 2 or 3 astronauts, who can access or descend through a pressurization chamber, in fact the internal cabin has its own pressurized atmosphere compared to the Martian atmosphere outside the vehicle. The rover is powered by fuel cells, batteries and high efficiency photovoltaic panels, guaranteeing a theoretically unlimited autonomy. The rover is equipped with a telescopic arm for collecting materials that are deposited in an independent container. Also on the front there is a second and smaller telescopic arm, with a digging, extracting and study function. Still on the front we find a useful winch, just in case. This rover has a wide range of tools for the analysis of the Martian soil and for communications: in front of it we find a photopolarimeter, a magnetometer, a composite infrared spectometer. On the upper part we find a UHD color / infrared close range camera, an radiation assessment detector, antennas for long and short frequency communications, satellite dish, a UHD color / infrared long range camera, and an atmospheric / meteorology package. Finally, the rover also has a rear tow hitch to allow the hooking of special trailers. The module is a small laboratory equipped with optical microscope, spectrophotometer, computer, incubation room / cold room, stove / sink, a bed, to increase the habitability. The mobile laboratory module is energy self-sufficient thanks to photovoltaic panels and batteries, and has replaceable air reserve for 3 days. It is also equipped with communication systems. It has a mobile refillable cartridge containing the drill rigs pushed deep by a mechanical hammer at the top of the apparatus. The speed of descent and perforation can be varied according to need. The system is completely independent and manoeuvrable from the safety of the rover. 6. Discuss your hopes, wishes, and speculation on what LEGO's Collectable Minifigure line may offer for Sci-Fi fans in the near future!
  7. One element that I have noticed, comparing the current sets with the ones of the late 80s and early 90s, is the disappearance of the middle-range models. I remember, for instance, spaceships like Gamma V Laser Craft (6891, 144 pieces) or FX Star Patroller (6931, 239 pieces), quite large hulls considering the number of pieces, with many functions, great playability and, most importantly, after taking them apart, the chance of building the alternate models or create the new ones we had in mind. Summarizing, the quintessence of Lego. Since the Space line doesn’t exist anymore, the immediate comparison would be with Star Wars, however, in relation to the aforementioned number of pieces, I see models, in my opinion overpriced, lacking details or functions (id est – and I stress, as I see it - 75199, made of 157 pieces, or 75214, based on 247 pieces). For better or for worse, these are probably the implications of SW license. There is no need to design new models starting from zero, because the movies have already established the guidelines, but these savings are counterbalanced by the costs of the license, thus the inherent profits are mandatory. Hence the high prices. Besides, why bothering wasting time and money to conceive alternate models if customers may just buy new sets? Depending on the point of view, a virtuous or a vicious circle, whose main feature is way too underestimated. As a matter of fact, the lack of middle-range models at reasonable prices implies that a child, who expresses his imagination through affordable models, will struggle to find sets that could suit his needs when growing up, unless having a family with good financial resources. The middle-range sets represent the necessary step between the basic models and the more sophisticated ones, or maybe the threshold towards the Technic world. And TLC is repeating one of the mistakes that almost led it to the bankruptcy, namely giving up on the generational turnover of its customers, therefore losing potential incomes and reducing its market position. In the end, the teenager who has stopped building will never become the adult buyer of a Ucs Millennium Falcon or a Bugatti Chiron.

    Out of the dark age?

Hello! A few months ago my interest towards Lego came back and I have tried to keep-up to date with what happened in the last 25 years. I was astonished to see how much parts and techniques have improved. Snot, studless designs and angled/curved pieces changed it all and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw on flickr the stellar current level of afols’ creations. I stopped building at the beginning of my teenage years in the early 90s, I started as a child with Space and then I switched to Technic. Probably my favourite sets ever are the spaceship Galaxy Commander (6980) and the Backhoe Grader (8862). During these years I was tempted a couple of times, the first one was with the first Ucs X-Wing and the second one was with the Sopwith Camel (10226), but at the end I didn’t buy any of those sets. Now I maybe regret not to have purchased the biplane but I feel no regrets towards the X-Wing, I couldn’t stand the lack of details of the end parts of its laser cannons in such an expensive model (at that time). As a matter of fact – and I hope I won’t start a flame – I know that Star Wars sets contributed to save Lego from the bankrupt but they had – and still have in my opinion – a very negative impact in terms of creativity, considering that SW license was the main reason why the production of the Space line declined and eventually, due to the vicious circle, stopped. Anyway a few weeks ago I built the amazing Jk Brickworks’ Sisyphus and then I bought his Pop-up book. I believe Jason Alleman’s mocs represent, in the Lego field, the exemplary link between engineering, the complexity of the technic mechanisms, and architecture, the aesthetics of the highly detailed models. Besides I find so commendable that he releases his instructions for free, he is not only a master builder but a true pillar of Lego community. I would like to build the Nativity, his pop-up book variation, nevertheless it is a very difficult goal for me because of the lack of the parts list. Actually I understand the video instructions but I cannot identify many parts because they didn’t even exist decades ago. Moreover a small childhood’s dream that I would like to fulfill is to build a Transformer with Lego. Many years ago the level of robots was the one of the set 6951, I spent so many time trying to figure out how to build a Transfomer but I eventually gave up, coming to the conclusion that the needed pieces did not exist. Nowadays, thanks to the socket-ball joints and other parts, this kind of models are finally feasable. My last objective would be to build a neo classic spaceship, some mocs are stunning and that shows how deeply loved and thus missed the Space line is. I especially appreciate Peter Reid’mocs – my favourite one is the Ll-497 - and I hope that some day he would release the instructions of at least one of his wonderful creations, trying to understand the structure of his models through some pictures is beyond my level. I dont know if I will be able to achieve any of the previous goals and I am not even sure if I am (or want to be) out of the dark age, I certainly know that, as a child, to build using plastic bricks brought me a happiness that no other toy or videogame could match and I will always be grateful to Lego for these joyful memories.

Good Morning Eurobricks. New to the group. Heard this is the place to speak on anything space related. Glad to be here either way. Let's talk about the build. The front and back are completely done. Shoutout to the lego space book for the prisoner's bed idea, Brilliant. As for the actual brick, you guessed it; all old light gray. With the exception of a few hidden headlight bricks. M-tron panels, three of them up in the back. As well as three box fronts on the top right. The doors directly below open to reveal the armory. Not sure what set they actually came from, but they're cool. In order to keep it sp2 colors i added the solid red bars and trans green glass. The sp2 tiles were an afterthought. Never intended to place four in the build, but...Should I construct a ceiling to truly give it a finished look? Any and all comments welcomed. More dioramas to come!!!

    The Mankind Machine

Hi everybody, my name is Pierluigi, aka Cloudstrife84, i’m from Italy and aftter months of hard work, I finally realized my Lego Ideas project. Help me make it a reality. Come look, ask if you like my idea and if you want to see my set realized, supported and share it a lot. Supported and share. Thank you very much. The Mankind Machine Relive the most important historical facts of Mankind with this Lego Set divided by past eras. Discovering the history of man has never been so much fun!!! Hunt the Mammoth with the Neanderthal man, dominate Ancient Egypt with the Pharaoh, fight with the Roman gladiators or assault the castle in the Middle Ages. Why don't discover the glories of the Italian Renaissance with Galileo or land in the New World with Christopher Columbus? Help the sheriff of the Far West or allied with Indians. Defend the Japanese Emperor from the attack of ninjas or participate in the taking of the Bastille during the French Revolution. You will be able to do all this and much more thanks to the Laboratory that allows you to travel through Time to relive the most important facts that have characterized the Mankind History. Detailed interchangeable Lego Sets that can be assembled in the central Laboratory. You choose the Sets with your favorite eras or collective all to retrace the exploits and events of man through time. Each Set is composed of about 500 Lego pieces and contains 4 mini-figures representing important and characteristic characters of the time expressed in the Set. Each set can also be closed to form a pretty box. I have always loved time travel and I think I am not the only one who would like a Lego Set that reproduces in a comfortable, pratical and beautiful to see, various historical eras. Perfect, then, in my opinion, both to stimulate the imagination of children, who learn the most important stages of Mankind while playing, and for adults who want to collect all the Sets, thus having at home a perfect reproduction in Lego of the fantastic History of Man!!! Hope you like this Idea. Hope you have a great 2019, see you next year. MOC: Brick-Built City Billboards

8 Billboards so far... by Humble Bricksmith, on Flickr Over the past year, I've been working on making city billboards, depicting classic LEGO themes. Billboards are a great way to add unique flair and character to any LEGO city or diorama. Without using any printed bricks, it becomes very difficult to create small details without scaling up your creation. I figured that billboards are a good compromise between detail and scale. For anyone interested, check out my Flickr, or support me on LEGO Ideas! Also, you're welcome to download LDD or Studio files of these projects Here.
  19. The following creations were built to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 1999 Lego Racers computer game. Pieces new and old have come together to form these newly revised versions of the 8 boss cars. Please enjoy! 1) Captain Redbeard As you can see, Captain Redbeard's new ride uses the microbuild of his ship from set #40290 as a base for this off-road beast of a racer. But it still retains the large exhausts and rear mounted pirate flag from his original car. The sails make this the tallest vehicle in the collection so far. .
  20. I just wanted to share some things I built using 1-2 copies of the new Lego Movie sets with Classic Space pieces. I think it's neat to show what can be done with just a couple copies of these sets. They're good parts packs in my opinion. FYI using only parts from multiple copies of one set to build something is called a "multibuild". What I've done here is mix both of the new sets in some cases which is maybe not a true multibuild but I think it makes sense to mix the two Classic Space sets. The first thing I tried was a simple alt build of Emmet and Benny's Fixit Shop (70821). Nothing special but sorta fun: Then I set a goal to recreate some older sets, or at least see how close I could get to the original. The first I tried was Mobile Rocket Transport. I used only two copies of 70821. The parts were perfect to get a very similar look to the original. I thought I could improve the rocket and crew a bit by adding one copy of Benny's Space Squad to the above. I was able to add a removable satellite to the rocket like the original and make a better looking (IMO) radar dish. Next up is Space Supply Station. I used two copies each of 70821 and 70841. Obviously the color scheme is 1978 space not 1983 space but I don't care about that. I tried to recreate the double windscreen, double radar dish, double space scooters, and two rovers. I have one other old set I want to try to recreate if I can get around to it. Anyone else have alt builds or multibuilds of these sets?

  24. Hello everyone. It has been a while since my last review. Now that I have my hands on this colourful spacemen set, I gave a little bit of my time to make this review. This is a quick one, if you have any question, just ask in the comment area and I'll try my best to take a photo and answer your question. Enjoy! These are all the space guys I have in my stash now. Not all are included in this set. Introduction There are lots of colours of spacemen since the classic space. I think after getting this set, I only need red and black to complete the whole spacemen collection (correct me if I'm wrong). So what are you waiting for? This is really a worthy set to grab! Overview Name: 70841 Benny's Space SquadYear: 2018Pieces: 68Minifigures: 4 plus a droidPrice: RM49 / £12.99 The Box Very nice purplish blue starter pack sized box. Now you know the names of the spacemen at the back of the box. The content of the box. Two bags without number. The parts in the bags. All other spacemen got classic faces. Only Benny has two facial expressions. Benny's alternate surprised face. He is the only one faded throughout the years. Accessories. The builds are simple and easy spaceship and space cart. The droid feels like Star Wars. The slope is printed. Tony: Great. Now the Infinity Stones can speak. Summary review Playability: 5/10 Not really playable but the colours are great for photos! Design: 9/10 I love the colours! Price: 10/10 Very worthy space starter pack! Overall: 9/10 This is a good set for minifigures. I hope you enjoy reading my simple review and do express your comments below.
