  1. Hello, this is my first new topic post here, altho you may have seen me commenting :D Anyway, the reason for the post is my MOD of the Town Plan Cinema. I am quite a traditionalist and therefore have not made any drastic changes, i have just made it standard modular size so it fits in with the others, and added more of a back including a second screen. I have seen much better versions out there but i like mine :) Anyway, enough talk... The overall building The twin cinemas featuring the '50 Year Brick' and James Bond. And upgraded snack bar with Pick-n-mix and a fridge... MOre deatiled pics on my flickr stream here: Comments and feedback more than welcome :) Tim.

    The V19-83 Starship

Hey everybody this is my first time posting so please tell me if I did something wrong or you need more clarification on something. This is the V19-83 Starship. It's something I am working on for a comic I am creating. The basic story of this is that it is a prototype that was left unfinished and found by my protagonist. I wanted something that in essence would be bare-bones but unique. I would like for this ship to change and grow as the story continues which is personally one of my favorite aspects in storytelling. I've always loved when the characters get a new base or upgraded gadgets. I wrote descriptions on every photo I took in my main album so I'm linking a couple of my favorite pictures here and if you would like to see more and read about my thoughts then feel free to visit the entire album. https://www.flickr.com/gp/133010472@N06/9VC3N3
  3. My first MOC, nothing as fancy as what I've seen on this site but still proud of it. My Town is still very much WIP. Most of the windows and gold pieces came from 2006/2007? pirate set. The roof was from a batman set around the same time. I recently started doing Lego again.
  4. This is my first attempt at a modular MOC. I based it on the 31026 Bike Shop and Cafe. There are two sets in the build plus a number extra bricks for the walls. I wanted to keep the build true to the original design as much as I could. I really wanted to have windows on both sides of the door for the bike shop, but that made the building 18 studs wide. I came up with the corner idea to allow me the wider facade. No interior yet. That is my next project. Ideas for what to put on the second and third floors? There are more shots of the building here https://flic.kr/s/aHsk5nxUrF
  5. Modular Tatooine - full by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr I wanted to try a modular and thought my recent SoNE build lent itself well to the format. I basically borrowed the Parisian Restaurant's layout and piled on from there. The bottom floor has a prison, dewback depot, and armory. The second floor has a patio, bar, and communications room. And the top layer is just equipment/greebles and some features reminiscent of Mos Espa. I thought of this outpost as a structure requisitioned by the Empire and converted to a lame attempt at asserting their dominance. I hope y'all enjoy it. Sorry there aren't more pictures.

    Modular Switch Drive

Hi all, I have designed a modular switch drive. The powering can be either by a PF motor, a Mindstorms NXT, a Mindstorms EV3 L motor or Mindstorms EV3 M motor. To overcome the friction of the 'click' in the switch, I have to confess that the switched need to be adapted to remove the 'click'. If you're interested, please let me know (I can send you the LDD file). Best /Hans

    MOC: Spy Spire

Spy Spire by RedCoKid, on Flickr
  8. Hi. Thought I'd shove up my very first MOC / MOD. It's heavily influenced by the Daily Bugle and I did it as an exercise to see if I was capable of performing the strange mathematics / engineering / voodoo necessary to wrangle a modular out of an existing set. I chose to do a news building first as I have a (hardly updated) blog that mirrors the 'LEGO NEWS' 2x2 tile in terms of design, so making the office in which the blog is written added to the fun. Inside is a bit sparse to be frank - the bottom floor is supposed to be a chilled, corporate looking, swish lobby in which members of the public can grab a coffee and be interviewed for the paper. A flight of stairs leads to the white walled workhouse, in which the poorly paid staff slave away. Overlooking this is a mezzanine level, where the editor in chief gets to bark at his staff from above. A ladder leads from there onto the split level roof, just in case the place bursts into flames or whatnot! (the place is, after all, a hotbed of activity). I did have a better picture of the front of the building but the windows were filthy... lol I'll find some better photos if there's any interest in the project. Overall, it was great fun to do and I'm now hooked on making modulars. PS - hope I've got the posting of images correct in terms of netiquette here... MOC: Chinatown Streetside Market

Chinatown Streetside Market I wanted to build a street market for my Chinatown district. It would be somewhere where you could buy Groceries, meat, fish, vegetables etc. and so to give it the space it required I inset it from the road. Here's what it looks like at night when business is closed - it's a fairly unassuming facade and a garage door. The only hint of what it might be comes from the two empty shelving structures. And during the daytime the place is transformed! The two shelves are now stocked, there's a hopper full of leafy greens, an ice box for fish and two interior refrigerators. Although there does seem to be something with a very large eyeball in the ice box. I wouldn't get too close. One final shot. Thanks for reading. Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome!

  11. A little urban renewal to transition the Detective Office part of town with the more classy modulars... my latest modular is "Chop", a small Asian fusion bistro in an Art Deco storefront. Oddly enough, I've wanted to use fish as an architectural element for a long time. 1st floor interior: Decorative wall panels. 2nd and 3rd floor feature a nice but somewhat cramped 2 bedroom aparment. Next to a couple of my other mocs. Thanks for looking! (Sorry the photography isn't great.)
  12. Hi everyone, some time ago I was looking through the BrickLink color list to see if there are affordable parts in some nice, rare but useful color - and found the Scala wall panels in light salmon. Well, when ordering them, I assumed they looked just like any normal plate at the bottom, but it became more complicated (see last picture) - anyway, here's the result: » Flickr album And yes, there's some reference to the , the misheard lyrics version of Nightwish's "Wishmaster"...Simple backside: The Master is throwing a fish to the customer who wants to be able to truthfully tell at home that he caught the fish himself. (Yeah, an old joke, but it lent itself to its use here...) Amusing the Apprentice and another customer: Upstairs, we have the Fishmaster's apartment, with daughter and grandson visiting - incorporating this year's little Easter set: And antlers like those in the Haunted House: Next floor: sleeping room and bathroom: In the attic, there are just a few of the mandatory old toys: And here's a look at those strange Scala panels: » Flickr album Hope you like it!

    MOC: Bakery Modular

Hello all, I would like to present my first real MOC. It is a 16 stud wide modular Bakery, with an apartment above. The bakery sells cupcakes and croissants, as can be seen in the window to attract passer bys, and also sells coffees, cold drinks and has an 'eat in' area out the back. More pics can be found on my flickr stream. (link in my sig. or click one of the photos!) An overall look of the building, the owner seems to have fallen over The owner welcomes one and all to his shop .... Stay for a coffee and a cupcake... And all of the floors separate. Sorry for the poor photography, i'm still getting used to taking photos of LEGO! I hope you all like it! Comments and suggestions welcome (but be nice, remember this is my first MOC ) Happy building
  14. So its been about a year since the last time we took stock of Godwins Hollow's growth and all in all it's been a pretty good year. We've renovated several areas - the Red Brick Pizza Oven, the costume shop, courier, and sporting goods store. We've added a travel agency and post office. Lockridge Estates and Lockridge Farms both got a makeover and we're sure there's a few other things here and there. Anyways, this is where are little city stands today. For all of the pics please feel free to stop by our Flickr page.

    MOC: Modular Research Center

I got back into LEGO a couple years ago when I started attending the Brickworld Conventions in Chicago. I didn't think I was creative enough or talented enough to create my own modular designs, but the Research Institute was really a good motivating item. I got it for my wife, but we had no place to display it. We have several LEGO tables in our house. Sets tend to get taken apart or modified heavily by our kids when they are on the tables, except to the table that contains the modulars. In order for them to fit on that table, I decided that I needed to create a research center. I designed pretty much the entire research center on LEGO Digital Designer. I don't know how anyone can create a model with more than 100 pieces - let alone the 3000 or so pieces that went into this thing - without it. I also had to use Bricklink for the first time, and I can't believe how much of a pain that was. Part of problems were my own -- not being completely 100% happy with the design before ordering parts that I didn't need or want in the end. I must of had 5 or 6 orders that were missing pieces. Many sellers refunded the money instead of sending the parts, which was more of a pain because I then had to buy them for other stores, pay shipping again, and usually have to meet the minimum order which meant buying pieces that I didn't necessarily want or need at this time. Ok, so enough about the headaches and back story. I designed my Research Center with SC Johnson's Headquarters in Racine, WI in mind. The complex was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and allowed for a relatively straightforward and minimalist outside design. I designed the entire interior so that all nearly all of the pieces from the Research Institute would be used. Minimal modifications were done when needed, but the point of the building was to focus on what LEGO already created. In the end, I created a three story building: a lobby with coffee stand, security guard, and dinosaur skeleton on the first floor, a chemistry lab and outside terrace with skylights for the second floor, office space with desks and cubicles on the third floor, and a observatory on the roof. I also didn't want to use any stickers, so all pictures on the walls come from printed plates. One mistake I made was using flat tiles for all of the floor space. The minifigures kept falling over and couldn't be posed. Eventually I had to put in some plates for footing in the chem lab because it was a disaster. 20150327_210114 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_152139 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_152128 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_152234 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_152510 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_152548 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_152827 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_153152 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_153138 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_153308 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_153250 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_153321 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_153437 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr 20150412_153416 by jrosen15@rocketmail.com, on Flickr

    [MOC] Fire Station

Hi All, Hope everyone is having a great 2015 so far. Here's a Fire Station that I was working on late last year, I actually finished it just before Christmas but have only just managed to find time to put together the details of the build. I've always wanted a classic Fire Station for our town so I went ahead on designing and building one. Built on a modified baseplate with 3 Garage bays with Shutter doors the Fire Station was put together with parts and vehicles from a Fire Station 60004 set and quite alot of used bricks to manage cost, The Fire Truck 60002 was also added to this Fire Station crew. Feel free to check out more information of the MOC with detailed images here as usual. http://www.boxtoy.co...tation-moc.html Also a video here too. https://www.youtube....h?v=27ezJYjk2Z0 Thanks and enjoy the MOC. [uPDATE: Build instructions now available]
  17. Hello Eurobricks!! So I am brand new to the forum, and has been a year since my Lego passion was rekindled. Me and my fiancé have amassed quite the collection, and we both have immersed ourselves. After buying all that has appealed to us from TLG, we have now dived into MOC-ing! This is our first modular MOC so far, and is still a WIP, but I've been excited to share and join the forum so here it is! We combined friends sets 41035 juice bar and 41006 downtown bakery and bricklink'd the other pieces. I still want to find other stickers/decals for the white panel pieces (similar to the one menu-lookin piece that comes with the juice bar) to liven up the walls. As for the roof, debating on doing a rooftop garden with a roof similar to the detective's office set, so it would align well in my row of modulars! Also sorry for the average photo quality, still need to invest in a good camera/lighting setup, but in time.. Let me know what you think! Happy to be a part of the forum! (MOD) Toy Shop and Grocery 31036

Here is my second Modular conversion. This time I started with two 31036 Toy Store and Grocery sets. I decided to just focus on the Toy Store, since the Green Grocer has the groceries covered. Like my Bike Shop and Cafe MOD, I wanted to try to keep the feel of the original. This is also my first attempt at an interior. 2015-03-05 16.45.46 I stole the sign idea from DDoshini... The ground floor is the toy store. A variety of things for sale. The first floor is a little office and storage for more toys. The top floor is a workshop where the owner makes his toys! 19. I fell in love with canal houses since the first day of my Amsterdam trip this may, and started designing it next morning after return. I did my best to keep all the distinctive features of a canal house. First off all, you can notice that the canal houses are narrow and deep. They were designed so to minimize taxes, which, at that time, depended on the width of facade. Amsterdam is situated on a swamp land, therefore facades were built of light bricks with large windows to reduce the weight. Another interesting feature with windows is that they become shorter from ground floor to the top. This makes an illusion that building is higher than it actually is. Also note some kind of a plaque just above the door. Three hundred years ago, only small percent of people could read, and plaques helped to identify name or profession of the owner. Because canal houses were built narrow, staircases were also narrow, making it a big problem to take furniture and goods up. To solve the problem hooks were placed on the top of the house, allowing to lift what you need and pass it through the window. Red bike. Thanks to many factors, like flat terrain, narrow streets and desire to decrease car-accident deaths Amsterdam became one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world. Nowadays there are more than 400 km of bike paths and 1 200 000 bicycles (even more than citizens). About 100 000 of them are stolen each year, and therefore our bike is securely locked. Pls support this canal house on Lego Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/83275 (You could also find there story behind the building and more pics, in higher quality)
  20. Hello, fellow Eurobrickers! Warning: This is a picture heavy post - and there's a lot of text as well :) I've been much less active over the past months here on the forums than I used to be. The main reason for that is that I've been very, very active in the real world of LEGO fans, having visited nine LEGO events in the last thirteen months. Part of the time, I've also been busy building - mainly for the LEGO Adventure Book, Volume 2. I was very honoured to be asked to participate in Megan Rothrock's first book, which turned out great - I'm very proud of having been a part of that, although my chapter is a little, tiny one with only six pages. It has taken me to events in Germany, Portugal, the UK and the Netherlands that I probably wouldn't have been to - at least not this early in my MOCing days - if it hadn't been for the book, and I have met so many great people (many of whom are active Eurobricks members) as a result of that. So when Megan asked me if I wanted to build something for the second book, I knew I would be stupid not to say yes. But I had to approach the challenge differently than with the first book, because the stuff that ended up in Volume 1 was all stuff that had already been published on my Flickr (apart for the Ace of Spades building instructions, which I made specifically for the book). For Volume 2, Megan wanted me to build something new. And obviously, if you're building something that goes into a book, you want to do your best. I couldn't just repeat what I did for the first book and build some cars. I needed to do something bigger, and that's why I decided to pursue an idea I'd had for a while, but didn't expect to actually be able to turn into reality for a while yet. I had toyed with the idea of building a gas station that would fit into a modular street, but I also wanted it to feature a (removable) parking deck on top and a ramp leading up to it. So I started out in MLCad with a 32x64 stud footprint. Not a good idea. After having built the entire ground floor and the ramp, it looked like this: I was quite happy with it - but then I thought it might be clever to check how it would look with some cars on it. And they didn't fit - they wouldn't be able to make the turn on the ramp, and they wouldn't really be able to get to the pumps. So it was back to the drawing board... This was so much better. I had another idea all along as well - a pet project of mine is, as some of you might know, updating the classic Town sets from the eighties and nineties, and a favourite set of mine from that era (that I didn't have as a kid, but bought right after coming out of my Dark Ages) is 6561, Hot Rod Club. My contribution to book 1 had a strong flavour of hot rods, so it made sense to just let that evolve into book 2 - and therefore I wanted to make an updated Hot Rod Clubhouse to go on top of the parking deck. I also wanted it to be removable so it could stand alone as a separate building, like the old one. And this is what I ended up with. Note that all stickers are official LEGO stickers. Here's a demonstration of the removable floors. The roof of the clubhouse also comes off (not visible in this picture): Some of my favourite details of the gas station: And the clubhouse: That last one is a respectful nod to the old set - the idea is that the hot rod club grew out of their old clubhouse... So, a gas station and a hot rod clubhouse. That's all good and well, but there needs to be some cars to go with it. First, the Gas Guzzler, a hot rod tanker truck. The idea came from those dark blue curved double slopes. I was able to pick up four of them from some building bins at an event in November, and I thought this would be a good way to use them. You can find complete instructions for the Guzzler in book 2. Add to this the hot rods that go with the updated clubhouse - two from set 6561 and, for good measure, set 6538, from the same year. Sweet Yello: Hot Howler: Rebel Roadster: And, for good measure, throw in a vintage car that I did earlier, the Blue Eagle, to be the gas station owner's daily driver (his name is Gus Gazzler, by the way): Complete instructions for this car can also be found in book 2. So there you have it: A modular gas station with a removable parking deck and a hot rod clubhouse, with three hot rods, a vintage car and a hot rod tanker truck - Chapter 3 of the LEGO Adventure Book, Volume 2, coming out in late November. Hope you like it - I'm certainly looking forward to getting my hands on the book to have a closer look at what the other contributors have built. There are some fantastic builders in there that I'm - again - honoured to be allowed to share space with in a book. And, personally, I feel this is my best build ever. Which is of course a very gratifying feeling when that was what I set out to do - and I was rewarded with a lot more pages in the second book :) More pictures of these MOCs can be found in my Service with a Smile photoset on Flickr. Thanks for stopping by! Are / L@go

    MOC: Old Chinese Pharmacy

Old Chinese Pharmacy My Lego town has undergone a bit of a rebuild - most of the official Modulars have been recycled back into inventory and the Chinatown district is expanding. So, here's a 16-wide build of a Pharmacy. I wanted an ornate facade with plenty of details, but I also wanted some decay and cracked masonry. The roof tile color is taking some getting used to, but it's definitely growing on me. Here's a close up of the details of the entrance door. The Ground floor has an interior But it's best seen without the rear and sidewalls. There are cabinets with drawers, decanters filled with strange liquids, a massive potted plant in the corner, and crystals. One final shot of the front. It's a quick fun build and I'm happy with the results (even the roof color) Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome!
  22. I have accumulated alot of kits over the years but I am recently trying to build my own creations and one of the first things I want to build is like a city building to go with my modulars. I was wondering if there was a way to instead of going to pick a brick or buying specific parts, to just take a lazier route and just buy alot of basic bricks that will help start the building process. I know lego sold those basic kits of standard pieces but those are all sold out. I basically mean like 2x4 bricks, 1x8 bricks, and all other essential bricks that people buy in bulk. I want to avoid just going to pick a brick because then it is way too specific and I would rather just have a big bin of pieces to start building. Is there also a way to somehow get similar colors? All of my custom creations so far are just random colors and it doesn't really look too good all together having mixtures of red and white and blue, etc. I have heard if you call a lego store they will be able to sell you a box of basic pieces that they put together? Once I have gotten all of these pieces, what is the best way to start building something like a modular building or just anything in general? I have built legos for years, but I was always more of the type of person that followed the instructions and followed the themes (cue the message of the lego movie here lol) Thanks so much!! Happy building
  23. Hi everyone. This is my conversion of the Lego Creator Palace Cinema into a gig venue for rock bands. The video details the current changes and future plans for the MOC. I hope you like the plan. I'll post updates as the internal features develop. Let me know if you have any ideas or comments. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks, Mike
