Around 4 months ago I built alternative model of 42035 Mining Truck but I just found some spare time to take pictures, film and describe it. So, using only parts from one 42035 set (including spares) two models were created: single engine Airplane and Tug. In total I used 347 parts from original 364. Mostly long axles and connectors has left. AIRPLANE This one has been built first. First off when I saw tapered panels I thought – “they’ll fit perfectly as an airplane wings!”. So I had no doubts what kind of alternative I’d like to do. Alpha version was created in 3 evenings and didn’t differ that much from the final product but still many parts left, including 4 wheels. I thought that it’s too much waste of bricks and I have to think out something else, best if this “something” would fit existing model. And so, second model appeared - Airport Tug, but about it in a minute. Airplane consist of 208 elements. It has moving single piston engine and propeller at front. Movement comes from rear wheels which are made out of T16 entwined with a chain. Plane has also movable rear loading ramp and ruder. From visual site there are pair of landing lights and side exhaust. Cockpit and 4 windows for passengers were highlighted too. TUG As I mentioned earlier after building airplane lots of parts left and I’ve made second vehicle – tug. It consist of 139 parts and has 2 functions – driving and retracting rear tow bar with hitch. In this model you can detect 2 similarities to mining truck – front grill and steering system. As there were quite limited amount of bricks left, probably nothing better than this, which has been already made, was possible to create. As in original truck there is also HOG steering. Tow bar mounting point is exactly at the end of frame. To fold and unfold it there is T8 gearwheel placed just behind driving wheel. At its end there is a hitch for airplane front wheel that can moves freely in any direction. After hooking it up propeller doesn’t touch any part of tow bar. Thanks to short wheelbase and overall compact dimensions even with hooked up airplane, maneuverability is really good. Everything due to limited amount of bricks is outlined in shape of tug but whole construction is resistant for intensitive play. Unfortunately visual attractions and details almost doesn’t exist beside front grill, mentioned earlier, and headlights. Bearing in mind that there are only around 360 bricks to use I think that models are not that bad. Both of them had to go on compromise but more attention and parts I spent on airplane. VIDEO: INSTRUCTION: It is true that making instructions is not my strong point but this time due to fact that many of you has 42035 set, I decided to made a LDD model. You can download it along with automatically generated instruction by clicking: DOWNLOAD Before building note that LDD interpret "axles with stop" incorrectly, so it's sometimes impossible to place it like instruction suggest. [TIP] Pure LEGO turn-table based wheel hub

Modern LEGO wheel hubs are known to suffer from a lot of slack. Other drawbacks are that you can only use them with CVT joints - not with the stronger and more angleable U-joints - and the section inbetween the pin holes of the hub is wider than 1 stud. While playing with one of them I noticed that part of the slack is because the DBG pins don't sit very tight in the wheel's pin holes. It helps a little if you have an axle running through the wheel which extends into the DBG-part of the hub. Now I know @nicjasno sells modified wheel hubs based on small turn tables, which have much less slack than the original wheel hubs. But than you still can only use them with the weak CVT joints. And you have a modified part. So I looked into using a turntable as wheel hub for the 15038 wheel (with 6 pinholes) without modifying it and it gives quite a good result. Better than the LEGO wheel hub: The turn table is attached to the wheel with 2 3L pins. The assembly inside the wheel makes sure the turn table's pinholes are attached to a pin and not to an axle (which would give slack) and sits tight against the inside of the wheel to give stability. Finally an extra belt wheel is attached to the wheel to give even more stability to the 2 3L pins that connect the assembly to the wheel. -

There have been some excellent alternate builds or C-Models showing up lately. I'm a big fan of these, as they open up new opportunities for those of us without a huge collection of spare parts, and in my view every one increases the value of the set in question. It's obviously a big challenge for the designer to work from a restricted pool of parts, and it's clear that certain sets lend themselves well to alternate builds. I also get frustrated when I come across a great C-Model topic, which I then can't find again later. So as my small contribution to EB, here is what I hope might become the definitive C-Model index, helping us all keep track of these great models, and in many cases, their instructions. For a moc I was Planning I tried making it in LDD (first time using it). I finished the chassis but I really have only 90% of the parts. I'm looking for an alternative build for the part https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=6571&ccName=4543367#T=C&C=11 which can be used with or without https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=57515&idColor=85#T=C&C=85 . The moc I'm building is a small suv so I want suspension On it. I tried building my own with my parts but I failed. -
[CMODEL] 42042 - FORKLIFT

Hi, after my [CMODEL] 42042 - Bulldozer I decided to publish my next alternative build for 42042 this time it is a FORKLIFT. I only used parts from 42042 except for the string (265cm needed) - I chose light green to make it more visible. Features: 4 motorized functions: - drive (front axle) with differential (made thanks to turntable) - steering (rear axle) (manual HOG steering when steering position on gearbox in neutral is there too) - Ackerman steering - tilting of the mast - lifting of the forks The mast is telescopic. Forks move in 4 segments. Lifting is achieved by system of string and pulleys. Lifting is not the fastest but that is intentional. My goal was to go for "as high as possible" design, instead of "fast" one. Wheels go really well on carpets, blankets. They tend to slip on hard surfaces (tiles), they are made from tracks (42042 has no tires) - it is easy to modify/replace tire wheels (You can do it. I do not want to, I want to keep it as C-Model) Gearbox's levers is easy to access. The gearbox is 4 channels/functions two-way kind. Easy and simple battery change. The battery pack also serves as counterweight. Details: lights, steps, logical position of stickers from 42042 A-model (no altering), seat (made from tracks!), steering wheel, mirrors, levers etc. MOC designed completely digital free way, no computers were used, just old-fashioned building, rebuilding and again, again. Hello everyone... I just decided to buy Sheepo's Rubicon instructions... but I'm a bit concerned, i dont have any 9.5L springs unfortunately... Are there any replacements? Hacks? Custom springs are welcome... but how? I really need your help... I dont think its impossible -

[C-MODEL] 9398 - Piper Airplane

Hi guys, girls and kids :) I'm new on this forum and new to Lego Technic although i played a lot with lego bricks when child. Last week I bought my very firs Technic kit and chose the 9398 4x4 Crawler which has Power Functions and RC. After three days I ended the model and played with that 5 minutes than I made it apart to start something mine. I wanted an airplane, and I love bush planes, those with big tires that can land on every surface. As my kit contains off-road tires, that was a good start. :) And in two days and a lot of tries and retries I ended up with this. Here's the video link (don't know how to embed) It is inspired to the Piper Cub. I know, tires are to big and wings to small and maybe many other imperfections, but that's absolutely my first construction with no instructions, only fantasy and brain work. I succeeded in hiding everything inside: battery pack, IR receiver and motor. I'm very happy with the result, and maybe one of those next day I'll try to give it an engine for the wheels, although I'm reluctant to take it apart as I'm sure I'll not be able to remake it as now. WHAT ARE "B-MODELS"? This term was used by Bjarne Panduro Tveskov (senior LEGO Space designer in mid-80's/early-90's) in THIS interview, describing models pictured mainly on rear side of LEGO boxes in 80's/90's, which are basically some different possible builds (without building instructions!) from the exactly the same pack of bricks as the main model set (or in principle: "Let's see what else we can build from the sets bricks only"). So that said below are some of my interpretations of those...all the LXF are, of course, mine...

[TC5] The Dawnbreaker

Hi! I would like to present you my TC5 competition entry: I named her The Dawnbreaker She's built out of 9392 Quad Bike and 42026 Black Champion Racer. She features independant front axle and dragged rear axle suspension, RWD by a pull-back motor, chain driven single cylinder fake engine, automatic return-to-centre steering provided by a huge caster angle (steering is done by the steering wheel in the cab) and manualy adjustable rear wing. I used all the stickers from 42026, which are the best looking stickers LEGO ever made, and none from 9392. Some more photos... I have a leftover of 54 from 343 pieces including spare parts (13 of those are chain links). I am really satisfied how it turned out and I think there won't be any more changes to it. Hi Guys my WIP for the contest. It is a Go-Kart made from sets......... 42002 and 42026 Functions- Pull-back and go. 2 cylinder piston engine. Adjustable height steering wheel. Features- Accelerator and brake pedals. Rear brake disks. Info- Parts available 305. Parts left over 54. Hope you like Henry. -
