  1. Here is my Let's Build for the upcoming (08/2018) #75218 X-Wing Starfighter. Enjoy!
  2. Minifig-scale Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wing (06-03-2013) Small update replacing the pictures with a black background by ones with a light one. (06-03-2013) For improvement of general swooshability! I've updated the internal structure to something that is way way way more stable (I can't stress this enough). If you're thinking about building: use these new model files (2.0). Really. Throw away the old ones. The result? See? No more hanging parts and disintegrating sidepods! Much better. (02-03-2013) It's done! I've added a build report below (after the files section). You know what they say: "A bird in the hand is worth..." (01-03-2013) So it turns out that real brick building is still rather necessary if you're inexperienced with 100% from scratch MOCs: the sidepods weren't strong enough to support the wing weight, so they have been redesigned internally. Also my solution for mounting the ion cannons on the sail didn't work as well in real life as it did virtually, so that has been modified as well. I'd strongly recommend getting and using the updated model files(posted below) if you're serious about building the model. Also, expect a write up of the build soon (with pictures! ) (30-01-2013) This model is now on Cuusoo! Please consider voting for it if you want TLG to make it. Thank you! (31-01-2013) I've updated the model to v1.2. The differences are all internal; the model should be sturdier now. IMPORTANT: if you're gonna build it using LDD instructions, please consider using the model-in-parts-file. This will force LDD to generate the instructions per major component (there's 9 in total), making it much easier to build. I've also added a wallpaper-like scene at the bottom of this post! (30-01-2013) New colors and updated images! ..or better known as the assault gunboat from the X-Wing/Tie-Fighter game series (Mu 1 anyone?). You can find more background info at this Wookieepedia entry. It's one of my favorite craft from the games, but unfortunately Lego never released an official set of it so far. As this thing cannot be missing from my starfighter collection*, I fired up LDD. It's my first 100% original, from-scratch MOC. Yay! I'm not really sure if I feel this model is done: I'm starting to suffer from "model blindness". Also the fact that there doesn't seem to be a definitive model of the Star Wing in the lore doesn't help. It's not even in the Essential Guide To Vehicles and Vessels. The model is rather bleyish, but for the love of me, I couldn't figure out a color scheme. I've included the LDD model below if you want to have a go at it, though I suppose most imperial craft are bleyish. So I'm hoping that you guys and gals can comment on whether or not I've done a decent job so far. Here are pictures so you can make your mind up (or you can just download the model file below). (minifig included for size) Some background info TL;DR: keep scrolling! The files are down below According to the lore, this ship is 10 meters long, 15.1 wide and 7.2 high. If my calculations are correct, that translates to 32x48x23 studs (about scale 1:40ish, which is minifig-scale). I believe the model is about that size (anyone got ideas on how to measure models?). It has 689 pieces of which none are rare according to LDD Manager. The model features foldable wings as well as landing gear and holds true to my "no flick-fire missiles in my house" policy. The ion cannons on the dorsal fin can rotate. There's a cockpit and the pilot has a chair. Because there are two technics axles running through the model (they connect the pods), it should be stable and probably quite swooshable. I won't find out until I build it of course (which may take a while since building the B-Wing burned through my budget rather quickly). If anyone has a better idea on how to construct the cockpit with these angles, please let me know. At first I used transparent panels on the sides of the cockpit, but they gave me design headaches up to the point where I was tempted to cut off the top bit (with the studs) from the panels to give the pilot some more room and raise him a bit so he can see outside the window properly. This is why I went with the small panel / transparent plate setup. I wanted to use this Windscreen 3x4x3 as it was the only one that kind of matched the angles I was looking for (when you use it on its side anyway). Files The main model file: v2.0 Model in parts (for building instructions): v2.0 (in parts) Play around with it. Maybe one of you can come up with a color scheme. Let me know what you think (31-01-2013) Here's a group of Star Wings patrolling around an ISD (click for big). *See my B-Wing MOC post: I collect starfighters from the X-Wing/Tie Fighter game series in minifig-scale. The Build I've finally managed to real-brick build the model! So here she is: Turns out that although building with virtual bricks gives you a lot of freedom to experiment, there is no substitute for real-brick building. In this paragraph I shall share some things I've experienced while converting my virtual model to something real. First problem I had was with the ion canons on the sail. Turns out my old grey frictionless pins are not fond of jamming bars in them. So I've opted for the solution shown below (which still looks rather neat). Then there was my "ingenious" solution for mounting these two canons really low and close to the sail. The original plan was to use a brick with an axle cross and jam the pneumatic "T" pieces in there, which oughta fit according to LDD. Turns out, they don't. Well, they fit, but (probably due to wear or tolerance) the brick doesn't hold them properly. Below you see the more standard solution for the problem. Note that in the new model file it is done slightly different, which you can also see in the first picture in this post. And then there was sidepod stability... my biggest problem (as I had predicted and feared). My original design turned out to be very fragile. As the picture below illustrates: just the weight of the main wing was already enough to have the assembly split and come apart (notice the black gap in the middle grey part). I've come up with a redesign that kind of works (I'll get to that in a minute). This is the main reason why, if you have already downloaded a model file and intend to build this thing, you should get the updated model files I've posted here. The version number should be 1.5. Unfortunately, that rework of the sidepods didn't stop the axles that connect them to the main hull from bending. The result of that is a model that looks like Star-Wars-meets-Salvador-Dali (apologies for the slightly blurry picture). I've already modified the main hull so that a pair of extra axles is present near the read. This helps, but doesn't stop the hanging. I'm afraid that if I want to make is internally strong enough, I've got to go with an entirely different solution. Probably lose the axles and use beams/thick liftarms instead. I might play with that after I'm done building my Missile Boat (coming soon ). The solution I'm using at the moment to combat the hanging is simple: support the sidepods! As you can see, I've used a 1x16 technics brick and it works really well. Ideally, one would use a 1x14 brick, but I don't have one. Sure, the stand is a bit bulky, but nothing I'm currently annoyed with. So it suffices for now. Other than these issues, the build went rather smooth. I was particularly happy with the sides of the nose: they are much sturdier than I expected, allowing me to remove one of the 4 connection points so I could make the internal cockpit a bit sturdier. I'm happy with how big it turned out; getting a sense of scale is always difficult when you work digitally. I hope you've enjoyed my little report and good luck if you attempt to build this!

    The Havoc [MOC]

A Scurrg H-6 Bomber flown by Nym the pirate (a playable ship from the old Starfighter/Jedi Starfighter game). I made this a while back but I wasn't too happy with it, so I've rebuilt the rear end, made a few tweaks and recoloured it. I couldn't find any interior pictures to work from, but according to Star Wars Wiki, there are 2 astromech co-pilots, space for 3 passengers and a bit of storage space, so I made sure I got all that inside :) https://www.flickr.com/photos/evilkirk/albums/72157693557592372

    [LDD MOC] E-Wing

This is my first post here, so Greetings everyone! I have been salivating on the Mocs I have seen here for years. Had trouble getting LDD to work for 3(!!!) years. One day I was playing a game when the unused LDD popped up from nowhere and it runs fine ever since I have seen some fantastic X-Wings but not much love for the E-Wing, so I gave it shot. This is my first ever LDD Moc and probably my 4th in total, so all input is welcome. I still have trouble getting LDD to do what I want sometimes. About my E-Wing: I love both the old blocky and the more recent E-wing designs on the internet, so I tried to go somewhere down the middle road. I understand if design purists don't like my approach. My primary goal was to build a display (UCS?) model, but when I finished the external design, I wanted working internals as well for playability and swooshability. Something UCS models don't allow... After adding all the internals I had to redesign the whole exterior again, to make it strong enough. I tried to design my E-wing with the available parts that I have at home, so that was a huge limiting factor for both the parts and the color scheme. I'm sure I could improve the model if I plan to bricklink the missing parts. Features: -Functional landing gears -Storage compartment (Rear) -Generator compartment (Mid section) .2 generators can be pulled out of the craft -Droid compartment (Mid section). Droid can be pulled out of the craft after elevating the whole turret assembly -Rotateable and elevable turret (Above droid compartment) -Wings can be level for landing mode or dropped for flight mode -Internal Torpedo storage for 6 Proton torpedoes (Behind the pilot) -Reallstic cockpit design -Realistic thruster design with build in LED lighting powered by 2032 Battery for when the Star Wars fan friend come over for a beer Features that I had to drop because I was unable to solve it: -Joystick for the pilot -Loading arm for the proton torpedoes Future plans. I want to build the model as it stands now and keep improving it as new ideas, building techniques and part become available in the future. I would like to use everything I learned here to make my own X-Wing
  6. The -Wing starfighter was an experimental starfighter which resembled the shape of the first letter in the Aurebesh alphabet "Aurek". It was an extremely fast and agile fighter with similar features to the U-Wing fighter. Its most notable feature was its prong-like retractable wings or S-foils that could split apart at the front to switch from flight to attack mode, thereby increasing the size of the ship's deflector shields and the spread of its fire, which earned it the nickname of Scissor Fighter. It also featured retractable landing gear, a central fin, laser cannons on each wing and in front of the cockpit, large engines on each side, as well as a small thruster behind the cockpit. This is my entry for the Star Wars X Building Contest on FBTB and since it's NnoVVember, I decided to make it a vic viper as well. Here is a bird's eye view where you can see the Aurek shape better:
  7. So I built this MOC of the A-Wing inspired by its snazzy blue colour scheme in Star Wars Rebels a while ago and it's sat on my shelf for a few weeks. I finally got around to finishing the back area of it although I'm not too pleased with how the engines turned out. Most of this was built from memory without comparing it constantly to reference pictures so I took a few "creative liberties" with the ship like with the guns on the sides. Also, I don't have any tiles in blue and didn't want to make any bricklink orders so I used bricks instead, hence why it doesn't feature the pointed tip the actual ship does (let's just say the rebels modified it). 10. I originally started trying to create a desert version of the Rebel Airspeeder. Instead I ended up inventing a space variant instead. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I figure in this version the rear gun is an ion cannon, and these small, fighters use their speed to dodge enemy fire and disable important targets, giving regular starfighters like X-Wings an opening to quickly dispatch the target. It'd be for situations where Y-Wings are too slow, but would only be effective against larger targets if executed quickly. I don't know why there'd be a space version of an airspeeder, but I had fun.

    [MOC] Disdain

Commonwealth Weapons Division Long Range Covert Ops Frigate Code name: DISDAIN Covertly testing experimental weapons in a star system near you! I just decided that I wanted to build a spaceship. I used this image from Deviantart as reference. I'm glad I finally got to use one of those train prisms I've had lying around for quite a while. 12. Hey folks. I wanted to make a more obscure fighter and may have chosen one a little too awkward, the Morningstar Starfighter used by the mercenaries in Star Wars: Starfighter. Reference I think I've made the internal structure of the main body sturdy, unfortunately I've not managed to build up the main thruster very well. It's as small as I could get it to be and still fit a minifig in the cockpit, though it still turned out much larger than I initially expected! Comments and criticism if you have any. :)

Star Wars: Micro MOCs | mini kits

Hi everyone! I'm quite new, but I build lego Star Wars MicroMOCs; in other words 'mini minikits'. I got my ideas from the Star Wars advent calendar series- style micro kits. I have built over 200 so far and I'm still going, so if you want to see any of these regularly, check out my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/James.Arts2172 and my YouTube Channel "James_Arts_2172: Lego" https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmYOMZz6DyvM1euY2qrRfpA All I did was go through every page of both DK Star Wars Visual Dictionaries and build every single ship and vehicle in them. Of course I have made many more besides (2014-present sets, Ep 7, Rogue One, Clone Wars, Rebel, Force Unleashed, Old Republic).

    [MOC/MOD] ARC-170 Starfighter

To celebrate the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story today, I decided to build a 786-piece model of the ARC-170 Starfighter. While it does not actually appear in the movie, it was the Republic's precursor to the iconic X-Wing Starfighter that the Rebel Alliance used in their fleet. It includes three clone pilots and an R4-D5 astromech droid. I used 8088 as a skeleton, but did some major modifications as I will detail throughout the post. Here you can see the model as a whole. At first glance you may not see that much different from 8088 (apart from the engines), but I altered many minor aesthetic and functional components of the ship to make it more accurate and give better play features. The original model had 396 pieces. I almost doubled the part count of the original. Here's a front view. One of my main priorities with this model was to bring the s-foils in closer to the main wing. In the movie, they're flush against it when closed, but 8088 had an unsightly gap between everything. This was as close as I was able to get the s-foils to the main wings. In this side view you can see some of the tapering I attempted to do near the nose. I wanted the dark red to flush better with the stripe that goes back towards the cockpit. You can also see my addition of spring-loaded missiles to the main guns, of which there are also faux blaster tips to try to mask some of the spring missiles' prominence. I also tried to extend part of the underbelly to better connect with the nose as seen on the movie model. Nothing too much back here. Just a knob that when turned opens and closes the s-foils, similar to 8088, however pulling and pushing it operates a different function... In 8088, pushing the knob activated a series of flick-fire missiles. Here, pulling it releases a latch that drops down this gun caddy which is currently holding the pilots's personal weapons. This is securely held in the ship so it doesn't fall out while swooshing. Top-down view. I changed the shaping of the wing-tips to make them more symmetrical as they should be. Here's my personal favorite enhancement. I modified the engines based on thire5's UCS ARC-170 model, but scaled down appropriately. It was a nightmare getting each tile to line up properly and not give me a collision error. I spent a good few hours or so on this part alone. They're slightly larger than the turbines on 8088, but I don't think they're oversized. The internal skeleton of the turbines for those wondering how I did it. If you have any comments or suggestions for how my model could be improved, please share! I'm always looking for constructive criticism! May the Force be with you!

    Some mocs

been a while since I posted here, so here's a few mocs I've made the last few months, enjoy! enjoy! David
  18. I'm calling this thing a T-70 advanced trainer starfighter It's not really supposed to carry all those weapons at once, but many varied systems must be made available, because trainer. The latest wannabe Space von Richthofen has giant pink hair that barely fits into the forward cockpit at all. Tsk... Here's a better view of the cockpit area. Windshields and bits are designed to come out easily, granting cockpit accessibility and a great look at the extent of the instructor's problem. This image shows the weapons selection, and the fighter unarmed. I think it looks much better without deadly pointy bits poking out in every direction. Bit naked though. There we go, a nice balance between too many guns and none at all, also another view of the cockpit area. Hey what happened to the preview post button? heresy count: 4. The missiles on the left wing are from an old Tyco set, with two more pieces used for engine mounts. Thanks for looking! Merry Christmas.

    Microspace Fighters

P-7a Percival The P-7a ‘Percival’ was a Second Age era fightercraft commissioned by the Royal Navy. It was designed as a jack-of-all-trades fighter-bomber hybrid but after testing and first deployments it was found to lack the requisite agility to serve the ‘fighter’ part of its role and instead served as a light bomber until usurped by the Albacore. The ship only saw military service in some minor border conflicts; it was disliked by pilots due to its sluggish performance against fast moving targets but loved by mechanics due to its basic, modular construction which proved easy to maintain and repair. The ship gradually fell out of favour through the Third Age and was replaced by the much more capable Albacore Strike Fighter. Many ‘Percies’ were sold on to private armies, scrapyards and other individuals. It has become a firm favourite for planetary militias due to its ability to carry warheads and ease of maintenance. The former quality makes it a affordable counter to pirate capital ships though it is vulnerable to flak fire and escort fighters. It is predominantly dependent on warheads for offensive capability and the quality load out can make the ship more or less dangerous; the Black Moon Union uses a number of the ships armed with modern ship-to-ship missiles with great effect, for instance. -- The Ingjald The 61-T ‘Ingjald’ is a strike fighter created by a subsidiary of Bofors; a small, private arms manufacturer based out of Ravensmere. The advent of the Fourth Age enabled small enough FTL drives and heralded the coming of the strike-class of fightercraft; at first they were extremely expensive to develop and build and out of reach of all but the largest organisations. The Bofors design team studied the specs of the British, European and American ships before launching a ship aimed at a more niche market. The final iteration proved fast, sturdy and potent; somewhere between the European and American models with something of its own thrown in for good luck. Offensive capability is provided by four missile hardpoints and supplemented by a high rate-of-fire pulse cannon under the cockpit. The ship’s electronic and countermeasure suites are cutting edge, allowing enhanced tracking of targets and decision support throughout combat. It can be flown by one expert pilot but most operators add a co-pilot to take care of the weapons and FTL drive. Each ship is individually made and they are commensurately expensive; even for a strike fighter. The only military force to use the ship is the Scandinavian special forces; the Aesir. They operate semi-independently of the European Union Navy structure and have a well earned, fearsome reputation. The ship is also used by a number of private individuals as a personal transport and warship. The Ingjald’s impressive mixture of weaponry and jamming ability make it a real threat to the older ships used by pirates and bandits throughout the Rim. The most famous Ingjald is nicknamed ‘The Indigo Viper’ and used by a member of the mysterious Agency. Miss Indigo uses the ship on necessary forays into the Outer Rim; the co-pilot seat has been converted into a snug holding cell for missions when she needs to take someone alive. Fugitives throughout the lawless region speak of the ship – and its pilot – in hushed tones.

    Mandible-Class Starfighter

Another starfighter, this time a little more alien-y! Certainly no Vic Viper, but perhaps a cheap baddie that can be easily and endlessly killed by one! The NoVVember challenge was definitely an inspiration for this. The Mandible-Class Starfighter is an alien vessel capable of both atmospheric and interstellar operations. Pilotless, the Mandible is controlled through the alien hivemind but can also behave autonomously if connection is severed. Multiple weapon systems allows the Mandible to engage a both light and heavy targets. Furthermore, the fighter is capable of acting in an anti-capital ship role. Using its claw-like wings, the Mandible attaches to a large vessel and overloads its antimatter engines, creating an enormous explosion. (Thanks for looking, feedback always appreciated!)

    S.S. Helios

The S.S. Helios is a Phoenix class starship capable of charging great amounts of energy from nearby stars. Also as it is capable of starcore harvest, it is one of the most enduring types of smaller vessels in the galaxy. -------------- Some detail shots of various part usages: Lastly a small context shot: ---- Fun note on it's beginnings: Back when we lived on the West Coast, we met one of our favorite space builders (Tardis Blue / Nick Trotta [Who is also tagged in this photo on flickr}) For awhile we've sought to osmosis some of his awesome starship building powers. For years nothing ever came of it, but finally this last month we were able to create our first Trotta-Try. In this instance mimicry is our sincerest form of flattery, and we hope it pleases the master. ---- Thanks for reading!
  22. Here is my latest MOC, a TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber, also known originally as Torpedo Launcher. TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber by Veynom, on Flickr Do not look for this TIE craft in any of the movies, anime, or comic books as you will not find it. It is based on the 3D model created in the early nineties par Marco SPitoni for his excellent animation fanfilm: " ". [MOC] TIE-Defender

After my TIE-Emancipator, here comes my rendering of the TIE-Defender, legendary spacecraft from the Star Wars expanded universe. TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr Directly inspired from the 8087 Lego set, here is my attempt at the TIE-Defender. Originally, I merly wanted to slightly modify my 8087 in order to block the rotation of the cockpit. Ultimately, I rebuilt the TIE from scratch, one update after the other. TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr As a consequence, my version is heavier and looks bulkier. However this only makes it more impressive. And a good side effect is that the wings are now symmetrical on both sides. No more inverted studs. :) TIE-Defender by Veynom, on Flickr Front view depicting its angelic face.
