  1. Hi, First and foremost, i'm French. I do my best to avoid grammatical and spelling error but some (a lot in fact) may subsist. I'm sorry for that by advance. Second, it's my first post here! Hopefully not the last. So here is my mod based on the set 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 car. It's a fully custom made light mod. Key feature of this is: - NO modification of ANY Lego bricks. - NO kragle or drilling or any other funky stuff. - Everything must fit inside. - Hide the mod as much as it can be. - All should work as expected (the strobes strobe, the rotating beacon rotate, etc). The mod is made of 28 LEDs, all controlled by an Arduino board. All wire are INSIDE the car. // All images are clickable for a bigger version. Here is the exterior shots, everything is exactly like every set: The roof portion is still detachable without any hanging wire, it's also clean underneath. Nothing cheap to hide a messy mod: Everything is controlled by an Arduino Pro Mini (Not really a choice, it was the smallest Arduino board I had in home) that is hidden under a 4x2 plates: Same apply for the battery, that was what I had at the time of building. A smaller lipo can be fit so it's not a choice. Run time is... Well I don't know. It fit in the trunk of the car and it's the ideal size to be held by the window mounting point after a small change in the design. Neat! The roof is attached by a very thin wire and connectedto it via a small 45° home made adapter: To start the Arduino, there's a hidden Reed sensor which is (for who don't know) triggered by a magnet. I put a neodyme magnet in a small Lego round piece and when it's in place underneath, the controller is powered on. Yup, the Ecto-1 keyfob is a Lego piece with a magnet in it. Then the magic begin: Pictures don't do justice for the lighting sequence so here is a small video: For those of you where Youtube cry for a copyright infringement (soundtrack to match the car....), here is one that work (it was an earlier version without the embedded electronique like on these photos: If you have question, i'll be glad to answer them. Troll included.

    Another MOD Cantina

Hello everyone, This is my first mod of an original set, I don't mod/moc, as I only build and display sets, however, I felt last year's 75052 Cantina set was a little underwhelming, and like many others hoped to buy a second one at a good discount to combine two. So after picking up another 75052 heavily battered at 40% off (the box was crushed and the sticker sheet was folded in half between the opening flaps), I decided that I would combine the two using only the parts provided in the two sets, still keeping with the aesthetic and design of the original set. I would like to credit user 'Artisanproxy' for some of the inspiration that went into making my version of the Cantina. Here it is. I apologise if the photos are a little small and over exposed. Most of the right side is the original set apart from the bar area. Unfolded The seating area on the left is from the original set. I decided to go with the curved wall at the back of the bar to give a bit of diversity from all the hard edges, but I'm not sure if I like it myself. Back of the bar. I turned the back archway into a window/service area, kind of like a drivethrough. Seating area of my own design on left. The bar. Comments and criticism welcome.
  4. I'm not into LoC, but as a collector of fantasy monsters I couldn't resist getting Flinx's Ultimate Phoenix (70221). The phoenix in that set is a work of art! That said, it does have a few characteristics I'm not crazy about, so I modded them out. The changes I made are: SNOT'ed the neck SNOT'ed the body where Flinx normally goes SNOT'ed the tail SNOT'ed the wings removed the push-fire play feature, and replaced the blue pins in the talons with black ones. You can see the mods in the picture below apart from the replaced pins. Sorry about the rubbish photography. Any burning questions or comments?
  5. I am happy to finally be able to present my version of a Conrail GP40 [full gallery] The obvious resemblance to the Maersk locomotive from set 10219 is deliberate and I would call this build a MOD rather than a MOC. I wanted to approach the Maersk locomotive from a clean slate with the objectives of: (1) replicating a common North American locomotive (yeah, there was that NS unit, but that was only one engine, Conrail alone had a 275 GP40's). (2) With the lack of a "Creator Expert" train on the market right now, provide an affordable "gateway" build for new AFOL train fans looking for something more meaty than the city train sets. (3) Since this is meant to be a gateway MOD, keep the parts costs as low as possible. As of this writing, probably over $100 worth of the parts for this build can be found in set 60052. This includes a pair of blue train base plates (hence the pair of locomotives), the 6x16 tile to cover the PF gear, and of course all of the PF parts (not to mention a supply of track to run on). As my grandfather used to say, when TLG hands you blue train bases, make Conrail. (4) Having built a few heavy freight cars recently and acquiring wide radius curves from ME models, I am now in need of a few PF diesel freight engines. This build keeps the form factor from the Maersk, but a lot of the actual build is different, including a few new tricks (e.g., the exhaust stack). Since N. American locomotives rarely travel alone I had to build a pair (oh, and there is that second blue base plate in 60052 that would otherwise be lonely). One is powered (3051) and one is not (3245). Rather than use the 6x16 tile on the unpowered unit, I built the long hood on 3245 out of regular bricks. As I look at the two together, I like the smooth side better, but it is not easy to hide 4 wide PF in a 4 wide hood. With this MOD I have also addressed some of what I think are shortcomings in the original Maersk design, chief of which was doing away with the high friction technic axles for the loco trucks and adding a second motor under the powered unit for more pulling power. I am even using a purist PF reverser switch inside the hood, so there is a lot of wire stuffed in the space that remains. One of the things that really makes a build pop is the lettering. These locomotives have been complete for a few weeks, but the stickers misprinted and I had to redo the lot. I was finally able to apply them this past weekend (more detail on the sticker process can be found here) The basic design is meant to be customizable. I personally like the look of the unpowered unit and if I did not already have way too many 9v diesels I would probably put a 9v motor under it. I did my best to keep costs down by avoiding rare parts, of course if someone had a ton of 1x8's those could easilly be substituted for the 1x4's... or on the unpowered unit one could use 2x4's. There are still a few expensive parts that could be substituted out, e.g., 1x1 bricks with stud on the side are a little pricy in blue right now. There was the use of the blue train base plates, fairly common at the moment, hence the Conrail design. Then more subtle tweaks, for example the hand rails are completely different, borrowing the clip idea from the BNSF set 10133 to eliminate one set of expensive hoses and then using bars instead of hose for the railing to eliminate the other set of expensive hoses. I plan on releasing the instructions for free as a gateway to the hobby and selling the stickers for those who really like the build. The instructions will come out as soon as I can finish cleaning up the LDraw file (a few weeks) and if there are any early adopters I could start taking requests for the stickers now (send a PM). In my opinion the stickers are good quality (as shown in the pictures) but not perfect if look closely (also as shown in the pictures). [ full gallery]

  7. I know when Elves were first leaked many hoped it was a Castle theme, well its still possible to convert the Elves into Castle style! Naida's Spa Secret is the only Elves set I've picked up so far, so I did a conversion and created a bit of a story for the Castle version. Here is the main action feature, there was a map hidden in the waterfall, now there is some ill gotten gold. Here is the story. I call this set The Nobleman's Vices. The nobleman goes to relax in his hidden spa in the forest. He is surprised to see a beautiful maiden in his pool, but is quick to try to spin the situation to his advantage. I'll let you guess what's going on here: To his dismay he finds its a setup! The guardsmen have trapped the nobleman in some shady dealings. But there's more, they find his hidden ledger that reveals he's been embezzling from the King. They also uncover the gold hidden in the waterfall as seen earlier. Off to the dungeons!
  8. Had a little fun with the 8051 and I really liked the result. Just a few simple mods give it a more aggressive stance and feel like a proper Streetfighter.

    [MOD] AT-AT 75054

First time posting a mod. Let's see how this goes... When I bought the 2014 AT-AT, I thought it was a really good set. It's technic frame makes it really stable despite the high centre of gravity, and for a system-scale set it is impressively large. It is very posable. It has it's problems though. In essence, it's a technic set with some plates tacked on to it. That usually makes for a set with a lot of gaps if you don't get the angles exactly right. It was also very studdy, whereas the "real" AT-AT is relatively smooth. Some of the colour choices seemed very inconsistent (a lot of stray DBL bricks everywhere). And, of course, the cockpit. The sides angled inwards too much, and it could fit only one pilot. Also: it lacked the red view port. So I decided to try to remedy all that, and basically turned a large pile of plates into a large pile of tiles. In the proces I found out that lighting is really important when trying to take pictures of LEGO. Sorry if it's hard to make out some of the details... You can find more pictures in this album.

    [MOD] 10227 - UCS B-Wing

As much as I love 10227, there were areas that I felt could have been done much better. Unlike other sets in the UCS line I have seen very few mods, and those that exist have few details. I now feel I have addressed all of my gripes with the model, including a stand that lets me invert the ship, a whole new cockpit and plated S-Foil undersides. Unfortunately I didn't make my album with EB in mind (I'm sorry guys ), so my images are probably too large to embed. All I have for you now is this imgur album and I may add some images to my post later. http://imgur.com/a/uKn5z I'd like to add that I'm not happy having the MF print on the cockpit, and the half cone doesn't come in clear without a print on it! It looks OK, but does anybody know a good way of removing the print? I know many have done so with opaque parts but not trans.

  12. Hello, i want to show my slightly modded version of the fantastic set 42039 b . I changed the wheels, front bumper, roof I also added a seat and replaced them with seats of the crawler. The hood is totally changed using the four remaining fender pieces and i gave it a realistic angle. Then i added leds in the four light clusters. (MOD) Toy Shop and Grocery 31036

Here is my second Modular conversion. This time I started with two 31036 Toy Store and Grocery sets. I decided to just focus on the Toy Store, since the Green Grocer has the groceries covered. Like my Bike Shop and Cafe MOD, I wanted to try to keep the feel of the original. This is also my first attempt at an interior. 2015-03-05 16.45.46 I stole the sign idea from DDoshini... The ground floor is the toy store. A variety of things for sale. The first floor is a little office and storage for more toys. The top floor is a workshop where the owner makes his toys! More photos here...

MOD: Modular Toy &Grocery Shop 31036

Okay, so this is what I started with. One set was well enough for the 2-storey version, but I ended up getting an extra set and building a third floor. It's still a WIP, though. The window decorations are not completed; I'm waiting for a PAB order and after that, I still need some tan cheeses. The ground floor storefront is empty (or nearly empty, I've temporarily put the 31036 minibuilds there). It will ultimately be a bags & accesories store. The chewing gum machine will remain, though. From the side, you can see that the sand green facade is sort of a charade, all the other walls are white on the ground floor as well. I'm quite satisfied with the backside. The ground floor is a little plain since I want to use the back wall of the store for shelves. The second floow interior is borrowed from Olivia's house 3315. There's room for the huge TV, the sofa and some lamps on the wall. The small stand by the stairs is a 31036 original design. Sadly no room for a refigerator in the open kitchen. The bedroom is on the third floor. All the furniture is from Olivia's house 3315 except for the lamp, which is from 3136, where it featured as a (very small) street lamp. The two grey flat 1x1 round tiles will be removed after I receive one more tan grille 1x2.
  16. Hi all I did this mod quite a while back and meant to post it but somehow forgot. After recently having seen images of the new UCS TIE Fighter (which does have the rear viewport) I remembered about this mod of mine. It's nothing special and the model loses even more of it's "roundness" (what little there was to start with) but I was quite happy with it. I tried to use most of the parts in the set but the use of some extra parts was inevitable. If anybody wants to build it, it's a bit wobbly at the start but it's as stable as it was before once it's finished. Here's an LDCad render (sorry, I didn't take any pictures when I had built it) and I've attached an .ldr of the complete cockpit build. Cheers TIE Rear Viewport.ldr
  17. I see [TC6] has heated the atmosphere quite a bit, so I propose a run in the snow, for relaxation purposes :) One of the best choices for this activity is my Dirt Crusher MOD, a snow-ready half-track beast that I named Tracker, for kicks. It's based on the amazing Prowler (RC), built by the one of the best Lego tank creators in the world, Tommy Styrvoky! Thank you, master ;) Photos of the beast after some test runs: YouTube video of it's first run on snow: The 2nd video, filmed closer, and after reinforcing the treads: I still have no clue how to embed a video on these forums, who can help me out? :) You will notice Technic bricks flying off in a spectacular fashion, it seems the half-stud pins are not the best choice for this powerhouse. But I do need some way to increase traction on soft or thick snow, so if anyone has any idea what to replace them with, please let me know, thank you.
  18. [MOD] Thor's Helmet So ever since I laid eyes on TLG Hawkman's (DC) new helmet, I knew I wanted to make this MOD / MOC. Build details: • First order of business was to bend / mold the "wings" back as much as possible without causing any irreparable damage. Those familiar with the MCU helmet know the wings do not flare out on the sides, but lay "flatter" to the helmet. • With a bit of trial and error, I got the wings as best as I could manage. I suppose I could have tried to fold back a tiny bit more, but I was getting worried that it was starting to damage the folds (there was a slight bit of visible "whitening" at the joints when I stopped -- no tearing -- these suckers are made of strong stuff -- but nonetheless decided to stop while I was ahead). • Next was to Dremel the face plate to remove the "mask" and then to shave / smooth down the inner sides. This took a bit of "eyeballing", trial and error. It's not 100% symmetrical, but about as good as I'm gonna get. • Finally, a nice coat of metallic Silver paint -- and boom -- done. Final Version: “Whosoever wears this helmet, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”

  22. So I wanted to make something more useful from the spaceship part of the Galactic Titan. It has that big open area in the back where it meshes to the tracked portion, so I thought what if I put a crew compartment there. Apologies if something like this has already been done. The idea is that this is now a dropship used for rapid deployment of an elite squad from orbit to the ground. The landing mechanisms have been modified for more vertical descent and a simple adjustable nose gun added. My personal favorite part is this custom label. Lastly here is a cutaway view of the interior loaded up and ready to roll.
  23. Fictional background: This 4-4-0 (also known as an American type) was built by Rodgers Locomotive & Machine Works for Brick Railway Systems (BRS) in 1870, and features a bright red-yellow-&-black paint scheme. Number 11 pulled passenger trains for 15 years before being reassigned to Freight duties in 1885. By 1890, the engine was worn out, and sent to a scrapper, who sold the engine to a museum for $100. Eventually, the museum was reorganized as the Imperial Rail Museum, where the engine rests today in non-operable condition. There were plans to get number 11 in working order for the US Bicentennial in 1976, but nothing ever came it, and the engine has remained cold and silent to this day. (This engine is the oldest surviving BRS loco in existence.) The model and color scheme was inspired by the steam engine from LEGO Toy Story set #7597 "Western Train Chase" (Link to Bricklink: http://www.bricklink...em.asp?S=7597-1 ) Here is the original model from the stock set. I've tried three times to get this engine right (working pistons and can go around curves + switches) and, twice I've failed. Let's hope the third time's the charm! The rear of the locomotive. Here is a better view of the side rods and wheels. The letters BRS go on the sides of the tender while the number 11 should go on the cab sides. One of these goes on the firebox door in the cab (Bricklink link: http://www.bricklink...asp?P=4150pb086 ) Other than that those parts, everything is where it should be. Here are the car's it's going to pull: (As a side note, the chains on the car ends have a glitch and refused to bend. They are supposed to sit on the 1x1 clip plates, and not the handrail / bar itself.) I was inspired by HunterDobbs and his red train cars to build my own versions. I think he got the idea from set 10173, Holiday Train. (link: http://www.bricklink...m.asp?S=10173-1 ) but his red versions look so much better than the plain white originals. I intened on using these with my 4-4-0 steam engine... once I build I get around to building it! (Here is a link to HunterDobbs' Flickr photostream: https://www.flickr.c.../117260213@N02/ ) Here is the train with 4-4-0. I think it looks like a contrast to my dark green 2-6-0 and matching train. Here is the other train for comparison. The LDD file (for the 4-4-0 engine only) is here, if anyone wants it: http://www.mocpages....1428585286m.lxf The LDD file (for the 4-4-0 & it's train) is here, if anyone wants it: http://www.mocpages....1428593703m.lxf Comments, Questions, and complaints are always welcome!

    Red's railway V3

So, I'm going to have to dismantle my 3rd attempt at a semi-permanent Lego railway due to it being situated under a building site. Also, I have bought some more appropriate tables which will allow it to bw properly level, and allow me some extra space to extend it and add another loop (on the station side), so now seemed like a good time to photograph it for prosperity. Overview The Rolling Stock I also have a couple of modded HE sets (ie one full TGV), but due to space and it being the most awkward to operate, it's currently sat on my dad's far from complete 00 layout. Sections -The yard and MPD. The Lone Ranger's escape! Substitute Knights and Pirates for Settlers of Catan. Dalek attack on the Bako Signal Box Successful Police sting (or is this too many officers and too much equipment to capture one man who is on foot?). -The bridge and container yard. -Town Center and Station ATM robbery.
