  1. TECHNIC MINI BUILD CONTEST - RESULTS First of all I would like to thank all contestants for joining this great competition. You have shown the community some outstanding MOCs!! Voting proved to be very hard. Unfortunately I had to disqualify the Specialized Mountain Bike because it wasn't a new MOC. My apologies for not having disqualified the entry before the voting. It was clearly stated in his topic, but I have somehow missed the intro text I have manually checked all new members (who joined after the start date) and they all seem to be legit. Furthermore, the Top 3 outcome would not have been different. So I have decided to whitelist all new members. Without further ado I hereby present to you the winning entries! 1st Menck Cable Bucket Excavator by Doc_Brown. After last contest's Silver medal, Doc has earned his first Gold medal with his marvelous Excavator. Congratulations! 2nd Retro Car by super-jaschka This car is so exquisite, that I wouldn't be surprised if TLG knocked on your door 3rd Grand Prix Racer by Jeroen Ottens A wonderful interpretation of what the Mini Grand Prix Racer could look like as an official set I will contact the winners via PM to handle their prizes. 2. MINI BUILD I promised we would do more contests this year, so I'm sorry for the delay, but here it is.....a new contest. DESCRIPTION Build a LEGO Technic model with a maximum of 200 LEGO parts! Imagine your set being sold as an official LEGO set. DEADLINE Contest closes on August 1st, 2014. CONTEST SPECIFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS Maximum of 200 parts. 199 or less is okay, 200 is okay, 201 is NOT okay. Chain links and tracks DO count toward the part limit. Every part counts (mini turntable is two parts, just like in a real set) NO Electronics (PF, Mindstorms, etc) are allowed. Only official LEGO parts. No chrome unless it's official LEGO (see previous rule) Ropes/Strings, rubber bands and pneumatic tubing need to be official LEGO parts. Set must have at least one, preferably more, functions. Aesthetics do count. NO Model Team. Imagine your set being sold as an official LEGO set (also see previous two rules). GENERAL RULES AND RESTRICTIONS The contest is open to all EB members (also new members). Voting is only allowed for existing members (which means member date before start date of contest) If there's a tie my vote and Blakbird's will count twice. If there's still a tie, Staff members will decide who wins. One entry per member. Entries need to be new (never posted anywhere previously). Only physical builds, so no LDD or other virtual entry. If you have any doubts about the suitability of your entry contact me. All entries are to include only real LEGO. No clone brands, 3rd party parts, or digital entries allowed. Decals (stickers) will be allowed if you've made them yourself, but no cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Entries are to be placed in the entry topic in this forum. Entries not in the entry topic are not eligible for voting. The entry post may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules. These rules can be changed whenever we see fit to ensure that people follow the intent of the contest. Staff members are not eligible for winning prizes. WHAT DO I NEED TO ENTER? All participant need to create a WIP topic for discussion purposes and create a post in the entry topic. WIP TOPIC A WIP topic beginning with [MINI]. ENTRY POST The entry post (in the soon to be created entry topic) should contain: Entry name Part count Short summary of the functions. Promotional image (this one should kick megablocks!) Parts image (a picture of all the parts used, spread out on a surface) The part image needs to show all the parts used in the model. I need a picture showing all the separate parts! That way we can clearly see which, and how many, parts have been used. The promotional image needs to be clear and crisp image, which really shows the model in it's best way. Think of it as the image on the box. Building a great MOC is one thing, but a decent presentation really helps you to get more votes. PRIZES The prize winners may choose between selected prizes. 1st PRIZE The winner can choose between 42006, 42023, 42024 and 42028 (if available). (or choose a smaller set of choice) 2nd PRIZE The runner-up can choose between 42007 and 42022. (or choose a smaller set of choice) 3rd PRIZE The bronze medalist can choose between 42026, 42027 and 42012. (or choose another set with a maximum of 25 euro) Special thanks to TLG's Community Support Team for providing these awesome prizes!
  3. This is my entry for the mini contest. The main function of this model is given by the two manual operated helices. It has an openable cabin too. I have modeled it on LDD and it uses 200 pieces that mostly came from a 9394 set with a few from 42006, 42022 and 42020. This is a LDD screenshot so you can see how it looks And this is the LDD file https://dl.dropboxus...chnic/Plane.lxf Following these links you will find some more photos of the real thing (sorry for the quality of them): https://dl.dropboxus...26-42_photo.jpg (lateral image) https://dl.dropboxus...-27-35_deco.jpg (above image) https://dl.dropboxus...-28-15_deco.jpg (front image) https://dl.dropboxus...-28-53_deco.jpg (bottom image) I hope you like it PD: I know it has some oddities like the steering wheel (the sports one should look _much_ better ) or the colors of some pieces but, unfortunately, this is the model I'm able to construct
  4. OK !! I'm starting this wip thread for my mini contest entry my entry will be some kind of 6 wheeler car or truck. functionality is still undecided, I need to work on the body either a flat bed truck with something on the back or maybe a touring car with steering, plus it rolls well so far I've got a reasonable chassis with about 50pcs minus the 2 middle support bumps but the body needs some improvement (heh) and some pics...
  5. Hello, Did not planned to take part in Mini, but idea was born in 1 evening after playing with 42001 set , which was built for my 4 years old son. As for 42001 - great idea of interchangeable bodies on simple frame. I am wondering why LEGO did not ask communities to do a contest like with 9398's chassis. But both A and B bodies of this set are ugly. I understand part limit for this cheap set for beginners, but they are ugly - thats fact) So, after some trying with 42001's chassis I have to make it longer, but main idea of rubber band suspension was saved. First version was built in ldd Functions: - suspension - openable doors and bonnet - detachable hard top And here is first real prototypes. This WIP, not final version. May be this MOC is a bad idea, that was born in the head of toyota fan:))) Anyways, glad to listen your critics and advices.
  6. Kudo's to TLG for giving us multiple options for license plates for the Mini Cooper. Looks like we have UK, German, Danish, Australian and US (Connecticut) to choose from. See this image from Jim's recent excellent review: I'm from Connecticut, but I am going with the UK tags as I feel they go better with the overall theme and 'feel' of the model. (by the way, is it yellow in front or back?) What are your thoughts?
  7. I wasn't happy with the way my MINI airplane was turning out, so I decided to start over. I wanted to build something which was a bit more unusual. While searching for something to build, I came across the Bell XV-15, an experimental tilt rotor aircraft, which combines the advantages of a winged aircraft with those of a helicopter. More info about the real thing can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XV-15 This is the progress so far: - Tilting rotors, controlled by turning knob (not yet visible on the photo's below) - Automatic retracting landing gear, linked to the tilting mechanism - Free spining rotors - Opening rear hatch, manually operated - Part count: 181, but need some part for the control mechanism once I found a suitable spot. - Bonus: very swoosable I'm not satisfied with the cockpit section yet and as said, the controls are not completed at this point. What do you think?
  8. 9. Hi! It's my entry for the 200 contest! This is a ship with a yellow submarine. Hope you like it! Part count is exactly 200! The creation has four functions, two of them are controlled by hand, and two are controlled by the two black gears at the rear (but by hand ): - telescopic crane - posable robotic arms on the submarine - high or low position of the crane - control the reel inside the ship to put the submarine into the water Thanks for watching!
  10. Hi all, Here's my model for competitive! function - Function steering - Doors and hood open / close my model has 191 parts. POV-Ray: I hope you like the model, and I am counting on you! Jakov!
  11. MINI BUILD ENTRY TOPIC This is the entry topic for the Technic Mini Build Contest. DESCRIPTION Build a LEGO Technic model with a maximum of 200 LEGO parts! Imagine your set being sold as an official LEGO set. DEADLINE Contest closes on August 1st, 2014. CONTEST INFORMATION More information about the contest can be found in the general discussion topic. WHAT DO I NEED TO ENTER? Please take a careful look at the rules before posting in this topic. Each participant should create a post in this entry topic. Posts need to follow the rules stated below. Posts not following the rules will be disqualified so please read them carefully. ENTRY POST The entry post should contain: Entry name Part count Short summary of the functions Promotional image (this one should kick megablocks!) Parts image (a picture of all the parts used, spread out on a surface) Video's are not allowed in the entry post (they are allowed in your WIP topic) The promotional image needs to be clear and crisp image, which really shows the model in it's best way. Think of it as the image on the box. Building a great MOC is one thing, but a decent presentation really helps you to get more votes. It's allowed to do some photoshopping to enhance the quality of your image. It's even allowed to compose a single promotional image with a main picture and several subviews (example), as long as your image doesn't exceed the maximum width of 1024 pixels. So this is allowed and even encouraged: The part image needs to show ALL the parts used in the model. That way we can clearly see which, and how many, parts have been used. 12. Hi everyone! This is my first time entering in a Eurobricks contest so i'm really excited . I decided to make a containertruck (like 8052 (the old one)). I started building very optimistic , 200 parts max would be easily possible i thought. When i finished my model, it counted around 250 parts, so I had to remove some parts. This was unfortunately at the expense of the beautiful and firmness. It now counts exactly 200 parts. However, I'm not totally happy with the result, and I hoped that some of you would have some tips how to improve my model . Have a nice day, Mark See the lxf file here: MINI Mini (8052) Containertruck.lxf (sorry for my bad English)
  13. Mini TrialTruck Big step deciding to show you my w.i.p, my two small sons have been helping out currently trying to keep it down to 200 parts and less studful...(its over by a couple of pieces, including the minifigs) Got to throw some minifigs in there too... Features: Pendular rear suspension in two axes... Forward/back, left/right Progressive steering on the front two axles, front wheels steer more than the next set behind. HOG steering in the tailpipe, flip open front. All done from my 'spares' box - for some reason I do not have any right-angled connector elements in Black... not even in current models We'll see how this evolves and whether it will enter the competition or not (my sons want it to) but I know It ain't gonna win prizes but that is not the point in entering.... LXF file here -> TrialTruck_v3.2.lxf Please use, improve....and most importantly share, I want to see 20 variations of these in the competition
  14. Hello I wanted to create something without wheels :) The other basic idea, that it must be well playable and simple. At last, this is the fruit of the above mentioned :) I hope you like it.
  15. My entry for the Technic MINI contest is the KOMATSU 931.1 harvester. I’ve decided to build the KOMATSU 931.1 for this contest because it’s an interesting vehicle which have some nice elements to build with a maximum of 200 parts. In real, the harvester fulfills a certain need for it’s users because of the functionallity of it. That makes it an interesting, special vehicle to build on scale. On the following pictures, you can see the KOMATSU 931.1 is harvesting some trees: 1_KOMATSU_931.1 by LegoMathijs, on Flickr 3_KOMATSU_931.1 by LegoMathijs, on Flickr 6_KOMATSU_931.1 by LegoMathijs, on Flickr The harvester is moving the cutted trees: 9_KOMATSU_931.1 by LegoMathijs, on Flickr A closer look at the functions of the KOMATSU 931.1: 11_KOMATSU_931.1_technical_overview by LegoMathijs, on Flickr Parts count: 12_KOMATSU_931.1_parts_count by LegoMathijs, on Flickr If you like to see more pictures of the KOMATSU 931.1: Flickr
  16. Hi all. I decided build a motobike for contest because 200 parts enough to do it! Second version of my bike.(First version without suspension here) I inspired by old Lego's motorbikes like 8210 But I did not like the lack of drive, so motorcycle became with a fake engine All photo - https://plus.google....859840203432049 Video review:
  17. Hi everyone, here is my entry to the MINI contest. First, a little background info. It's been around a month since I woke up from my dark ages, and I can say that this is my first MOC that looks somewhat like the real thing :) It's a garbage truck, with the lifter mechanism in the front. It has two or three functions, depending on what you call a function :) 1 - The front lifter mechanism, obviously, 2 - The container section tilts for dumping, 3 - The back part opens automatically when the container is tilted. The right dark bluish gray connector controls the tilting, and its left light bluish gray counterpart controls the lifter. This version is around 180 pieces. I have some modifications in mind, that will probably pull the part count around 200, but will improve the looks. (hint: headlight and tail light sections.) I also want to modify the lifter mechanism and squeeze in steering if I can but I haven't had a chance to work on it in the past week, so, time will tell :) I like the color scheme a lot, I think it suits a garbage truck quite nicely. I don't like the tires though, but I can't find smaller tires that fit the scale. The current ones are from 42023. Do you have any suggestions? Hope you guys like it. P.S. : Thanks for this great contest, it's helping me a lot in experimenting with building techniques. Apparently I forgot a lot in the past 15 lego-less years (I am 29). I built two other entries before this: one tow truck and one snow groomer, but both were too big.
  18. Hey all, This is my attempt at an entry for the Mini contest. This is a Technic street sweeper inspired by the LEGO 6649 Street Sweeper. Functions: -Working HOG Steering -Retractable side brush controlled by knob on side -Lifting brush head controlled by knob on top -Swiveling brush head controlled by knob on top -Floating brush head (moves freely over uneven terrain) The scale is about the same as the LEGO Mini Backhoe Loader set from one or two years ago. Pictures: Below are some pictures of my first iteration, which had 253 pieces (way too many!). Pictures: Daniel
  19. My mini is finished, it is a wheel loader and it has 199 parts. It has functional arm, bucket, wheel steering, hand of god steering, pendural rear axle, cabin door and hood. I tried to build it as real as technic posible. Video And more pics You can see the evolution of the MOC, more videos and instructions in the old topic, thank you. http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=96518
  20. Hi! This is my (with great help of my brother) first proper MOC of tractor Tomo Vinković TV 420 used on small farms and wineyards - mostly known across ex-Yugoslavia and Balkan. Functions are: - central steering - 2x4 drive with half diffs, - hood opening - one-cylinder engine with characteristic flywheel - rear drive shaft for accesories Contains 175 parts. Assembled in old technic style, also used old technic parts. Video of Lego TV420 and real picture comparison: And one funny video of TV tractor use:
  21. Hi all, I would like to present my WIP of my entry for the MINI contest. The model is an aircraft loosly based on the iconic Cessna 172. It has two functions: working ailerons controlled by the stick and a one-cylinder fake engine. Other nice features are the micro seat and a bunch of recent new parts. As said, it is a work in progress, I'm still working on the following points: - Less dense structure without compromising the rigidity - Reduce the part count (205 pieces at the moment) - Find a nice colour scheme which can be build, might need to order some parts for this. - Attempt at a less cramped cockpit - Try to include the iconic wing supports of the real aircraft. I'm very pleased with the results so far and it looks fantastic next to the 42025.
  22. Hello, this is my first competition here on Eurobricks and first technic one! My entry is a front loader. Ok, not very original, but.. :) I tryed to make it as compact as possible. The hard part is done: the steering and loading mechanisms work and are very solid and compact. The driving cabin will come next. Feature: - Working steering - Working front loader Any feedback is welcome :)
  23. Last night I started work on my second MINI Challenge model...a wheeled excavator. Here's the chassis design, only 55 parts and it has 4 wheel steering. Now to work on the hardest part: a good-looking digging arm.
  24. I figure I'd better get in with a WIP topic in case someone else has the same idea as me and claims I copied them :-) This is very preliminary, but here's what I've got so far. Mini Crop Duster. Features (hopefully I can get them all in!): "Remote" controls * Retractable undercarriage * Engine and propeller Local controls * Flight surfaces * Steerable tail skid/wheel It's going to have to be yellow, because most of my other colours are locked up in other models at the moment, and since crop dusters seem to be predominantly yellow tail-draggers (albeit with fixed undercarriage), it seems a natural choice. If all goes to plan, I'll finally be able to find a use for the panel fairings from 8455!
  25. I like to present my Mini for the contest, it is a truck with trailer and a wheel loader: After finishing my little dump truck last week I came up with this idea instead of trying to cut down the parts of the little dump truck from 350 or so to 200. And to be honest I am glad I went with this idea. Was alot of fun and it provided alot of challenges, but I got everything in the model that I wanted with exactly 200 parts. A total of 9 functions (10 if you count adjustable seats in the truck) I managed to put in this entry. One function actually shares his with another and came to be by chance actually. I didn't plan it, it just happened when I placed a part for which all I had to do was turn it around to make it even more functional, but more about that later. Allow me to go over each part seperately: 1. The truck with a total of 97 parts. Could be a considered a "Mini" on its own I suppose. It has the following functions: - HoG steering - Rear suspension - Fifth wheel lock 2LegoOrNot2Lego actually inspired me for the fifth wheel with the version he has on his awesome US Truck T1 MkII. I wanted that on my little truck, but I had to do it on a much smaller scale so I didn't fully look at how his worked, just knew it had rubber bands. My fifth wheel requires a little manual assistance to function (don't have to open them this far to get the trailer in there). Trailer uses a technic crankshaft to lock into the fifth wheel And this is how it looks attached. The suspension on this model is actually an improved version of the one I made for my little dump truck. Originally the truck for this had a 5 stud wide chassis like the little dump truck, but after making the wheel loader this 7 stud wide body looked too big in scale (and had a wooping 135 parts). So I made a 5 stud wide truck, which means I had to refine the suspension from the little dump truck from 5 studs to 3 studs. This was a challenge, but making the centre of the rear chassis from connectors instead of liftarms made my day. But Appie this truck is 6 studs wide? Yes, the 5 stud wide truck looked too slim so I tried a 6 stud wide body while keeping the chassis 3 studs wide for a better look (works better with the tires too in my opinion). 2. The wheel loader with a total of 57 parts It has the following functions: - Articulated steering through gear on top of the cabine - Bucket lift through control at the rear - Bucket tilt with hinge Added bonus for me personally is that it uses less parts than Lego's smallest technic loader, but this one can steer Can't wait to see how it looks besides the 42030 3. The trailer with 46 parts. This was a real challenge. Before even starting this I remade the truck like 3 times to get the parts down to what it is now. I took apart the wheel loader for the same reason, but 46 parts is what I had to work with and I managed to get the functions in that I wanted to. Though they are a little simple in execution (as in: very direct), but that also happens in "Mini" Lego sets, so I guess it fits It has the following functions - Ramp that can be lowered - Stand that can be lowered - And the double function: the stand also functions as a lock for keeping the wheel loader in place during transit. The ramp at the end provides this feature a little too of course, but the stand really locks it into place, it can't move at all. I call it "the hook" Let me explain the hook with some pictures. This is how the stand would be during transit. When the stand is deployed the wheel loader can move a little, but is quickly stopped by the ramp at the end, so no crazy stuff will happen when standing still The wheel loader has an open space behind its front axle, the 2x4 liftarm fits perfectly in this space. Here you can see how it looks on the model: Thank you for your time and I hope you all like it. Big thank you to Eurobricks for this fun contest. It's alot of pictures, hope you don't mind. I like showing stuff Photo of the parts will follow soon (will have to disassemble it first).
