Hi there! Was an observer for quite a long time, and finally decided to participate in the contest to push myself build something finished. A story behind: I have two sets - 42099 and 42068 which is give me less freedom and prevented me from starting this topic earlier, but I decided to give it a shot and make something. So, I decided to build a Mini Cooper b/c I love these cars! DTM version b/c I have not enough parts to build a good interior lol At first I decided that it should be modular to simplify the build. Eg body is detachable from a chasis. In general I build chasis only, then face an issue with lack of details disassemble everything. So this time I decided to start with a body. Features: HOG steering Fake engine RWD with differential Openable hood & trunk Modular design: a body is detachable from a chasis using 4 pins. The chasis may be split out into 2 parts using 4 pins Dimensions: Length: 31 studs Height: 11 studs Width: 15 studs Then I created a chasis and put a body on... Chasis design was borrowed from 42093 Now it looks like this: Still lot things to build, so I'll keep you posted. -
Kudo's to TLG for giving us multiple options for license plates for the Mini Cooper. Looks like we have UK, German, Danish, Australian and US (Connecticut) to choose from. See this image from Jim's recent excellent review: I'm from Connecticut, but I am going with the UK tags as I feel they go better with the overall theme and 'feel' of the model. (by the way, is it yellow in front or back?) What are your thoughts? -
Who could resist a challenge to build an icon? This brick Mini Cooper may be only eight studs wide, but it was a real challenge to retain the distinctive grille, sloping headlights, contoured hood and sporty essence in a build of this size. Built as a commissioned piece for a special birthday girl, this Mini Cooper used more than 280 parts and took two months to design. Please share this if you like it!
