Still not pirate ships, as such, but some of them could be handy for a bit of raiding. The models resemble five ships from just after 1000 A. D. Viking-age in Scandinavia. They are minifig-scale or 1:40’ish. The largest model, Skuldelev 2, will have the dimensions Length: 80 cm, Height: 40 cm (with stand), Width: 10,5 cm The smallest model, Skuldelev 6, will have the dimensions Length: 29 cm, Height: 21,5 cm (with stand), Width: 7 cm There is approx. 4900 bricks in the models combined. With 2100 going to Skuldelev 2, 1100 to skuldelev 1 and 450-700 bricks for each of the other ships. The main source of reference is the The viking Ship Museum: Vikingeskibsmuseet i Roskilde The focus of the museum is a permanent exhibition of the five original Viking ships excavated nearby in 1962. The line drawings and data found at the museum is the basis for the models and the replicas Ottar, The Sea Stallion from Glendalough, Roar Ege, Helge Ask and Kraka Fyr are invaluable source material for the colors and final look. Lately I have made some ships from the Middle Ages. I am sharing them here as they could fit nicely with castles, knights, catapults and armor. The Middle Ages is a broad term, but according to Wikipedia, it is the period 500-1500. So far I have made: A Dromon, The Skuldelev Ships, A Cog, A Caravel, A Carrack and A Galley. All ships are minifig scale or approx. 1:40. Some models can altered in to waterline models, ie. the bottom can be removed so that they can stand on a "water surface". They are digital for now, but that may change. Here I confine myself to a picture of each ship. Some of them have additional pictures. Length: 93 cm, Height: 43 cm, Width: 37 cm (with oars) Bricks: approx. 4350 Can be altered in to a waterline model. Skuldelev Ships 1-6 The Viking ships from Roskilde. Excavated in 1962. This model could represent a cog from from approx. 1270-1330. If anyone knows anything else, do tell. Length: 68 cm, Height: 75 cm, Width: 19 cm Bricks: approx. 4300 Can be altered to a waterline model. Caravel The caravel was developed in the 14th and 15th centuries. Shown here in both a lateen rigged and square-rigged version. With a length of 14 m (scaled), the model is roughly the same size as Niña (Santa Clara) and Pinta from the famous journey to Asia in 1492. Length: 40 cm, Height: 45 cm, Width: 10.5 cm Bricks: approx. 1300 (in one of them) Carrack Karrack, Caravela, Nau, Nao, Neef or Kraak., About. 1500 The ship type is a precursor to the galeon and builds on the cog, the holk / hulk and various Mediterranean ship types. When I researched this type of ship there were some very far-out versions of what it might look like. Maybe I will make some of them at some point, but here I have used different plans for Santa Maria and a lot of common sense. Length: 85 cm, Height: 75 cm, Width: 23 cm Bricks: approx. 6400 Can be altered to a waterline model. Galley This is a model of an Italian style galley. 14th century, 1571 or mid. 18th century depending on weight put on references or type. The main characteristics of the model are from La Capitana, a galley of Malta. The lines, armament, oars and overall arrangement follows the drawings of this ship. These are indexed in Architectura novalis mercatoria (published by Fredrik Henrik af Chapmann in 1768) as no.18 on plate LVIII Details, such as color, not provided by Chapmann, are from Real, the flagship of Don John of Austria in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. The details from this Spanish Real compared to the French La Réale from 1694; however, this ship is not a main reference. Length: 166 cm, Height: 113 cm (with stand), Width: 82 cm (with oars) Bricks: approx. 16200 Can be altered to a waterline model.

[MOC] Medieval castle and village aka "Dad, how about building a castle?!"

Hello forum! I've followed this forum for two years already while I've been building this fairly large MOC for two consecutive Lego events in Helsinki, Finland. I was thinking I would like to give back as you all have given me so many great ideas. The story goes like this: My son asked me a build a castle, just for fun. After 6 months of building I had 7-floors high, detailed (both inside and outside) with front defence with 3 floors with functioning portcullis etc. Every floor connects other floors with proper stairs, all the support structures are there as you might suspect in real medieval castle. Fireplaces and chimneys are there etc - as with my engineer's neurotic precision. Every detail has a medieval counterpart somewhere in the world. The castle (or it's actually a keep) was presented in the Lego event on 2018. On the following year my son asked me again: Dad, should we continue the castle this year - how about building surroundings. After 8 months of building I came up with 3 medieval 2-floor timber frame buildings with again interiors and a 3-floor medieval 13th century chapel. I moved the castle from the flat base plate on top of a hill and also started to do the build on moduverse units for compatibility with some Nordic LUGs. I presented this in Lego event on 2019. The size of the build is now 4x2 large base plates (roughly 51 cm x 110 cm). Hello! It was my first MOC after switching from Lego Digital Designer to Studio. That was time, when I can learned how Studio works. Brave warriors are taking a rest on their post. The Carrack, Caravela, Nau, Nao, Neef or Kraak. The ship type was all the rage in the 15th century. It was important for me that it seemed like a reasonable evolvement of the cog, and as a precursor for the galleon, being closer to the latter. Trying to avoid the most out there designs of this type; I have mainly used different plans for the Santa Maria and a great deal of sense. It is in minifig-scale or 1:40’ish. The model will have the dimensions Length: 85 cm, Height: 75 cm (with stand), Width: 23 cm (Beam) There is approx. 6400 bricks in the model.

Mill "Mitgardia's farmers feed the guild. They are up before dawn and work till well after sunset. They face any number of challenges they can't control, from too much rain to not enough, from diesease to insect infestations." This will be integrated in a larger layout i'm working on. The mill is my entry to Age of Mitgardia - the mill category.

Here is my medieval landscape from HUNLTC's recent exhibition in Budapest, Hungary. Only about 150 out of my 700 soldiers were present, but this time the emphasis was on landscaping. This 35-baseplate display is just the first step: I'm planning to expand it to 60 beseplates by next year. Inspiration & ideas for this came from a multitude of great builders here, among others Derfel Cadarn, Sirens-of-Titan, DNL, Mark of Falworth and Jojo. Thanks, guys!

‘Calyva, a legendary mystical figure is said to rule the swamps. Nobody is brave enough to search for his secret fortress. Situated on a lonely rock, only accesible by boat. One has to climb the trees and cross a bridge to even get close to the structure. It’s location makes it very hard to intrude; it’s almost suïcide trying to.’ This MOC actually started with the idea to use tires as tree bases, very soon the ‘swampy’ feel grew on me. So the start was set. At first I didn’t have a clue on what building I wanted on top of the rock. Restricted by the size of the rock, it had to become a tower. I wanted to use darker colors to add to the atmosphere of the MOC but still wanted some contrasting color, Dark Orange complimented by Dark Red does the trick I think. Hi to all mates , I want to share my last creation.Its a grey castle in a 32X32 base plate + a 16X32 base plate at the front. I put some details of snow on the ground and on the castle..Also a little river and a gate that Eomer and the White Wizard will pass and find the prince of Gondor to his castle and discuss the possibility that Sauron returns!!!

Hi to all folks..I want to share my latest 2 mocs in one creation to complete my medieval - classic mocs scene.. Here we have one barn and one blacksmith shop. My last creations want to be playble and small sets like the lovely sets of 80s period. My barn its playble and open on the top..also have a little stable that i can match them and some old lovely minifigures.. The blacksmith have some details that i love and with one of my last moc the Red Guarded Inn takes me a lot of years back..

This is my latest Castle MOC: The Clovershire Castle! Built entirely within the Stud.io program, I began the model with a completely different model in mind. Below is a picture of the Temple of the Moon Maiden, a MOC I had submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform. I wanted to take the bridge you see in the background, as well as the water, and the staircase on the right, and create something totally different with it as a baseline. This was the result: My inspiration came from pictures of old misty castles in Scotland and Ireland. I wanted a ruined castle feel, but one that was also partially restored. The bridge was framed by a ruined window, and the mountainside to the right became a rocky buttress to the crumbling castle wall. And of course I left the lanterns in because I thought they were cool. This model got submitted as a contest entry to the AFOL Designer Program with Bricklink, and became a finalist! Below is the MOC after a couple changes were made by the Bricklink and LEGO teams. It's currently in the crowdfunding stage and accepting pre-orders. If it makes it to the funding goal, it'll become an actual set! At the rate it's going, it seems a little doubtful that it will make it, but there's still hope! Built for the Used Cart Salesman category of the Colossal Castle Contest XVI, this model is my third entry this year. The challenge of creating the look of a medieval city on such a small foot print was an enjoyable task, and I’m quite pleased with how the tudor houses turned out. Using sideways headlight bricks with tiles for cobblestone is an old idea, that I just made my own version of that design for this scene. Harburg is a bustling city and Lord Karsten often likes to walk the streets and see firsthand what goes on. Today he is accompanied by his daughter Elise, and while they wander around the city they see many vendors peddling various wares from their carts. Baked goods are always one of the most difficult items to refuse – the savory smells wafting from bakers’ wares are so tempting! More pictures: You can see more images on Brickbuilt, as usual. Hello all! I have recently started taking interest in Lego medieval MOC's and I was wondering if there is any kind of basic inventory to start the collection with. I mean an inventory of the most commonly used 20-50 items in these kind of builds, the absolute must have pieces. I've been experimenting with bricklink wanted lists, but some advice from the experienced builders would be much appreciated! :) Have a nice day!

Hi guys! I'm planning on making a huge castle with my wife that'll be constructed on top of a table. Currently i have already designed a functional machicolation on top of my castle walls. Currently i'm trying to figure out a good gatehouse. I'll probably make two towers and have the gatehouse in between them. Any tips for a mechanism for a iron gate that'll go up and down? Behind that, i'll add two wooden doors. The castle will be in normal minfig scale. So it'll end up being quite large. I already made a sketch on LDD but the gatehouse was too tall. And the mechanism to lift the iron gate using chains needed a different mechanism so the crank would be behind the gatehouse instead of in the side. I need the crank to be built so it'll be unnoticeable. I'm trying to aim towards historical accuracy. I'll update this thread as our project goes. PS: The prototype of the wall is finished and i'll probably add pictures soon.

So! This is my first MOC in Guilds of Historica as a Nocturnian and I hope to build many more GoH related builds! I hope my English is not too cringey, although I don't mind feedback on it. Argatz seeks the help of Hanrik the bone lord. Summoning was not one of Argatz's special talents. Yet, he wants to summon one day a one hundred and thousand troops to take over Nocturnus and eventually conquer the whole vast continent of Historica. Of course, this evil ambition was not shared with Hanrik, as we will soon read how he will lie to him for his own spiteful good. “So, you want to summon demons, yet you are inexperienced in doing so?” questioned Hanrik the bone lord with a curious cackling voice. “But for what purpose?” And Argatz answered as honestly as he can: “For keeping my house clean, my bone lord!” “Very well! You have to realize I don't teach my superior summoning skills to someone who might want to conquer me or this land.” said the bonelord without any suspicion in his voice. But his last words give Argatz an unsetteling feeling, as if he was caught on his dreadful lie. Hanrik the bone lord took his place before the black pedestal and began chanting before it in rhyme. “Oh, ghost of a thousand dreams, enter your portal of green beams. As I, the bone lord, command thee to come forward!” And there it was. The ghost arose from the glowing green stones of the black pedestal. “Huh? Where am I?” asked the ghost in a unintelligent mumbling manner. “I summoned thee!” answered Hanrik prideful. “You are standing in one of the many rooms of my castle! As a guest, of course!” “Oh, thanks... I was sleeping. Now, if you excuse me, I'd like to go back to sleep.” The tired ghost went through the window above the bone lord's head. The bright green glow of the stones fade away as well. Argatz scratched his chin as he was pondering what he should summon for this lesson. It did not took him that long and he stepped a bit to his left so he was standing exactly in front of the pedestal. “Now, remember!” said Hanrik with his cackling voice in high volume. “Just summon a ghost and nothing else!!” Argatz rolled with his eyes, which should tell anyone, especially the bone lord himself, as a warning for what is to come next: “Oh, in the land of the north, Where Mitgardia lies, come forth. I want you, you heinous troll, appear before me as a whole!!” And before Hanrik tries to cancel Argatz summon, after hearing the word 'troll', it was far too late. The aforementioned troll stands there on the glowing pedastal, squatting and grunted: “Gotta go dookee nookee!” And Argatz, who stands behind the troll, feels much regret.
