  4. Magnus Gudmund, Lord of Spróggefjell in southeast Mitgardia, had recently had his farmlands raided by a band of thieves. Rumour has it they took to the coast, so Gudmund hired a group of soldiers to patrol along the Southern Shores. So far, the search has been unsuccessful. This build is a modified version of my Summer Joust collab entry (see spoiler) from three months ago. I was happy with the ship, but the water and terrain wasn't convention-worthy. So I tore down the water, I acquired a lot of dark blue tiles (just barely enough, though!) to cover the new base, which I shortened on both front and end. I finished the creation halfway into August, but there was a problem: no camera! I had been borrowing my sister's camera for years, but at last she permanently reclaimed it, so I had to get my own. And then holidays happened, and other LEGO projects, a job application, Skaerbaek Fan Weekend, LEGO World Utrecht... but this weekend I finally spent some time figuring out my new camera (Nikon D3300) and taking pictures. Little note: I didn't bother changing the figures of the collab, but I did change the story to fit Guilds of Historica. It's not much, but it's something. Glory to the Guilds! C&C appreciated!
  5. Recently HMS La Belone joined the fleet of Commodore Willem van Baarle in Mesabi Landing. After a fierce battle Commodore Van Baarle needed more ships to join his private fleet to defend Corrington's land and sea against some scumback pirates. Now, another ships arrived at the outer harbor of Mesabi Landing. It is the mighty HMS Black Prince. This class 7 vessel is another addition to the growing fleet. Captain of the HMS Black Prince, Harford 'The Shadow' Hayhurst walked across the jetty to the harbor master. The harbor master shook his hand and welcomed him to Mesabi Landing: "Good to have you here! This new ship is a welcome addition to Commodore Van Baarle's fleet!" Capt. Hayhurst nodded in agreement. "On the way we came across a 'man-of-war', a large ship with a double cannon deck. It is on its way to join the fleet! We saw several ships with a Corrington flag coming this way, also. Reinforcements are on their way!" Collab build with @boeing_787_8_dreamliner. 8. Recently Capt. Willem van Baarle returned in Mesabi Landing from his pirate-hunting mission. He was leading a squadron out of Port Woodhouse that included his frigate the HMS Phama, the man-o-war Semilliante and the HMS Melampus. Van Baarle found his prey in the East Prio Sea when they encountered Kane's new flagship, Perla de Labuan, a class 9 galleon, leading eight(!) other ships under his black flag. After a fierce naval battle, the battle ended in a draw. The HMS Phama sent Paraiso to the sharks, but unfortunately his HMS Melampus did not survive the battle and was shot by a Black Flag ship. Capt. Willem van Baarle: Now, back in Mesabi Landing, Van Baarle was licking his wounds. He was determined to expand his fleet with a number of new high class vessels. To get an even stronger fleet, more ships are needed, which requires a special commander. Van Baarle's good friend Baron Peter Nash, a wealthy man, provided this investment. Captain Willem van Baarle was promoted to Commodore... and if the fleet grew fast enough, he might even become Admiral soon... Let's kick some Black Flag *sses! --- Collab build with @boeing_787_8_dreamliner. He did a major part of this build. 9. April 622, Somewhere not far from Seawatch, New Haven Sea "Hoist the mainsail, ya scurvy dogs!" - the captain was yelling at the top of his lungs, but hearing him in the whistle of the wind was still very difficult- "Let's see if those fishing boats wanna dance with us!". The "fishing boats" had just rounded the promontory, one mile behind, and were closing in fast... but as soon as they left the cover of the shore the waves started to hit them with their full strength. The sailors of the Stormchaser laughed wildly as the three junks started to swing and list dangerously, the sails flapping out of control: they could imagine the chaos, the soldiers slipping and rolling on the deck, the wheel spinning around... for that day, their chase was definitely over! "Brace yourselves lads! Give me more jib and say farewell to those bilge rats!" The little crew roared and ran to the ropes. Soon, the Lotii would have turned back to their port, seasick and humiliated, and Seawatch would have been fed for one more day. The Stormchaser, and many other little ships with her, were the last, weak connection between Seawatch and the rest of the world: the settlement was surrounded, and all the roads had been cut. However, the Lotii junks blockading the port were not as fast and seaworthy as the Madrician sloops. When the sea became rough, therefore, brave and slightly mad captains tried the dangerous routes from Fort Arltrees or Spudkirk, defying the storms and the enemy patrols. They were called Sturmreitern, the riders of the storms, because that was exactly what they did: riding the waves and the winds, that the Lotii didn’t dare to face! Some considered them smugglers and profiteers, others called them heroes and saints... whatever the truth, their cargoes of dried meat, hardtack and gunpowder allowed Seawatch to survive. Before departure, the boat had been stripped of anything less than essential, then barrels and crates were fastened in every empty space. The little ship must remain as light and fast as possible, but the cargo had to be worth the risks! "Port ahead, Cap! I see the lighthouse!" The little port tower had been shelled several times, but somehow it was still standing. They had completed another passage, one more line to carve on the mast. Now the waves seemed funnier, and everyone was laughing and cheering... apart from the Carnite officer they had taken on board, who was still a little too green to talk! ---------- Front view of the Stormchaser A side view of the ship and its support ------------------------- After a week on a sailboat, I can finally present you the Stormchaser, which I completed soon before my departure! I'm thinking of licensing it as class 2 or 3 (suggestions appreciated: 22 studs at the waterline, 40 at the deck, excluding the bow mast). This is an idea I had before the siege of Seawatch was lifted, but I never had a chance to complete it. Now that the "humanitarian smuggling" task of the Stormchaser is over, it can move to more profitable businesses!
  10. Despite being the swiftest of the three, the HMS Camilla was the last to arrive in Westface, hours after the HMS Nimble and the HMS Corsair. As the squadron was spread out to sweep the seas on their way to Westface, the HMS Camilla, being commanded by only a lieutenant, was relegated to the most leeward position of the line. As they neared port, the square rigged, and thus least weatherly, Camilla had to make up the most distance, beating up from leeward. The HMS Camilla is an 18-gun post ship of the Royal Navy, newly built in Northern Corrington. Her long 12 pounders offer her a good weight of metal, but what is most notable about her is her tall rig, being built for speed. She is well-suited for traditional anti-piracy duty, although the size of the most notorious Brick Seas pirate flotilla might make the Camilla's career short. She arrives commanded only by her first lieutenant, with orders for Captain Cooke to join and take command. The orders did allude to the fact that an 18 gun post ship is somewhat below the station of a senior post-captain, that it was only temporary, and that Captain Cooke would certainly jump at any opportunity to serve his country. And while Cooke had expected a more substantial command, the command of a squadron did somewhat make up for it, as did the beautiful, well-handled post-ship. If the crew of the Camilla had expected a long-awaited shore-leave in Westface, they must certainly take some resentment towards their new captain, as only hours after arrival, Captain Cooke had them afloat again on gunnery exercise with the rest of his new squadron. Another ship from my yards. Years in the making. If @Garmadon remembers, he challenged me (probably not directly ) to build a ship with gun-ports of 1,5 stud width. This is the fruits of that labour. And I think she turned out pretty nice. The biggest challenge was really making her sturdy, as the off stud widths make for less stable connections. I have learned much since I built her, and there are obviously things I would redo, but I am overall quite happy with her. She will be licensed as a class 5.
  11. Only hours after the arrival in Westface of the HMS Nimble, another vessel pulls into view. This time, however, the gunners are more confident, laying their guns with great care, as certainly, this must be a corsair. After the recent disappointment, perhaps now their thirst for action can be sated? The gunners are only to some degree to be disappointed, as the vessel, although not a target, is indeed a former (and by name present) corsair. The HMS Corsair is a xebec-frigate taken from corsairs off Guelph by Corlander cruisers. Her sailing qualities were such that she was purchased into the service. She carries 14 9-pounders, and while that armament is light for a frigate, she makes up for it in maneuverability. The large lateen combined with square sails (known as a polacre-rig) makes her an excellent sea boat, particularly close to the wind, allowing her to eat the wind out of any square rigger. In a calm, her light construction allows the effective use of sweeps, long oars deployed through ports designed for the specific purpose. She too is to join the squadron under Captain Cooke, to combat the pirates that has scoured the seas and attacked Corlander interests in the Brick Seas. ' A class 5 polacre-xebec for the Royal Navy.
  12. Out of the morning mist around Westface shoots the spectre of an unknown schooner. In forts around the city, guns are loaded and levelled, preparing for the order to fire. The recent pirate attacks on Mooreton Bay have left many a harbour defence on the edge. Approaching close to the wind, the signal hoist on the foremast is obscured, but as one artillery officer is just about to give the order to fire, a signals post repeats the private signal from the schooner, identifying it as a friend rather than a foe. Following directly, a new signal breaks out, calling for the captain of the HMS Greyhound to repair aboard at once. At shore, the signal confounds the commandant, as the Greyhound has long since departed the station. However, Captain Cooke, spotting the signal from his portside inn, realises that it can only refer to him and rushes to the pier. The schooner HMS Nimble is newly built off a Balondian yard and just arrived in Terra Nova. The 10 gun schooner is armed with 6 pounder guns, and built specifically for the rough seas of the colonies. She is a weatherly craft, able in high seas and able to lie very close to the wind. Now she is the first in a squadron of ships sent to reinforce the colonies, under the command of Captain Cooke. Another small hull piece test for a class 3 schooner.

    [OL - ship] The Ajax

The Ajax is an 18-gun sloop-of-war carrying the Oleonaise royal colours. I think she's probably a class 6, but I'd be keen to hear opinions on that. Not sure what to do with her. I'll probably sell her to the nation or the RNTC, but this may be the point at which I finally give in and join the EGS. I also don't have any backstory, so if you wanna invent that for me, I'd be much obliged.

    [COR - SHIP] HMS Phama

I want to introduce you to a new guy in Terra Nova. His name is Willem van Baarle. He is the captain of the beautiful vessel HMS Phama. This vessel is a masterpiece by William Parker (@boeing_787_8_dreamliner). The HMS Phama is a class 7 vessel with 48 guns, 26x 24lb longguns and 22x 18lb carronades. The frigate can accommodate approximately 300 crew members. William van Baarle will use this frigate as the flagship of his private fleet, currently based at Port Woodhouse in the East Prio Sea. Willem now has two higher class vessels under his command, but a third will be added soon! --- Collab build with @boeing_787_8_dreamliner. He did a major part of this build. 15. For my contest entry, I wanted to make a small, yet feature packed little ship. Made in LDD and rendered in Bricklink Studio, It was based on 7416 Adventurer's set Emperor's ship, but I've remade it to be less of a Chinese Junk, and more of a Golden Age of Piracy Gunboat. I've added a bowsprit, cannon, steering wheel and a Poopdeck, and replaced cloth Junk sail with brick built Jib and Gaff Rigged sails (Ideally I'd use cloth sails, but I don't know how to do that in Studio). I'm very proud how it turned out, and I'm sure it would be a fine addition to Admiral Woodhouse's Navy. It's a very versatile vessel, perfect for patroling the shore, escorting and interception, and it's manned by a crew of three: Two Marines and One Captain. This is how it looks like from Starboard and Port. Even though the cabin under the poopdeck doesn't have much space, it's enough to keep charts and delicate navigation instruments away from the Elements. There's also a nice little hold for confiscated pirate contraband and treasure, though, to gain access to it, you have to remove the cannon. I guess that's what the huge crane at the Eldorado Fortress is for. Obviously it's the first cathegory entry, and I mainly tried to emulate the 2009 era, as it's evident by the Minifig Prints, and rather modern parts. EDIT: After hearing your suggestions, Here's the improved model: The Sails are now tan and with much less visible studs. New cannon! it's still not perfect, but it's much smaller, and has a built in stud shooter. And yes, you can open the hold with cannon still attached: Other changes: -Added Figurehead -Reduced number of golden decorations. Now it should be more aesthetically coherent. -Tweaked the stern a little bit. Added colours flag, and an additional lantern. - Made the hold trapdoor open the other way, this should make it more accessible.

Built this SHIP last night using some advanced building techniques, but I'm not sure what the right term for this type of hull design is. It has a lot in common with a Cog, but the curve on the prow is the wrong shape - wondering if anyone can help me figure out a more accurate classification. It's definitely a merchant vessel as the primary cargo is animals. 17. A "pirate" tale PART 2: THE SERPENT Meanwhile, in the seas further north, a mighty shape glimmered on the horizon under the rays of the sun. Golden sparkles and a large white and red shape emerged from the waves. Armed with a telescope, the boatswain of a small brig with the Jolly Roger at the top of the main mast thought he saw a sea serpent with a red head and dichromatic coils furrowing the distant waves. A moment, and the pirate saw just above the snake's head a flash and a puff of smoke followed by a hiss... shortly after a mortar round missed them by a few hands. Instantly the brig reversed course and began to flee. That handful of pirates were the first to see 'Tiamat', the newest flagship of the Bluecoats, ready to wreak havoc on the pirate-infested waters. In ancient Babylonian mythology Tiamat was the mother of all cosmos, the primordial goddess of the oceans and salt waters. Depicted as a sea serpent or a dragon, she was the symbol and embodiment of primordial chaos. The governor, a great scholar of ancient civilizations, chose this name for the flagship of his fleet, a name that should have instilled terror and respect in anyone thinking (unfortunately) of engaging in a duel with the sailing ship. Three mighty masts and 12 sails caged the winds that pushed the vessel, endowed with great agility and speed despite the bulk of the hull. Fully armed from bow to stern, with cannons, mortars and bombards ready to sink those accursed freebooters who littered the Caribbean waters. Despite being a ship designed to do battle, the governor demanded that it was also richly decorated, and therefore the vessel was a flourishing of golden ornaments interspersed with the red and white duotone of the hull. Finally ready to launch, the Tiamat was "blessed" by the king himself, and as soon as her keel touched the waters, the expert captain set sail for the Caribbean to test the firepower of the flagship and give a clear warning to the buccaneers: nothing it will be more like before, no piracy will be easy, everyone will be punished by the Babylonian goddess…
  18. Hi! Today I start my new project: Winter in the Raven's Wharf This will be my biggest MOC to date and there are quite a few topics to cover I plan to build a medieval port somewhere in the far north. I did surveys on YouTube and Instagram, I asked what season to choose... ...Winter won! The project will consist of several parts, the whole thing will be divided into several baseplates. The size of 60x150 studs is planned. On the waterfront, I will want to build a lot of buildings for residents, but also military ones. The main attraction, however, will be the large ship I'm already building There are several inspirations, I will definitely turn on the Witcher 3 game more than once to explore Novigrad and look for interesting ideas. The main ship will have about 1500 parts and I will definitely make a PDF instructions for it. I've already built a small boat for a fisherman, I'll probably build more of these. I'm going to need a lot of parts, especially for building water. Since I'm building winter, I'll want to use the new animals from the City Arctic series - I'll add some seals, but I'm tempted to add a killer whale as well. You can learn more about this project from my video, link below. I will be glad if you write what you think about this project, but also write your ideas what I can build here :) In the next episode I will definitely want to show the finished ship, I will have to make sails and instructions.
  19. This is my entry to the "Life of Cedrica" contest: Cedrica Outer Port Office At the entrance to Cedrica´s harbor is a small island, which is completely built up by a Port Office. Many ships stop here to be guided by the pilot the last stretch to the main port. Entering the quay is Seigurd of Updale in his small cog, to clear his cargo at the port office. In his office, the port manager keeps a log of incoming cargo.
  20. As Queenston grew larger by the day, the need for certain materials were quickly becoming a problem. One of these materials was cotton, the settlement had welcomed a large amount of settlers these past months which led to a dire need for cotton with which to make cloth for clothes and sheets. Being the most isolated settlement of the Empire, the Mayor had to rely on long trade voyages for any material or product Queenston did not yet have the capabilities to produce itself. Thus the Fara and ETTC Muharib were sent in consort to Queenston, with their cargo holds filled with goods for the settlement. The Fara sailed all the way from Jameston, with supplies and large amounts of cotton and seeds, while the Muharib collected timber and wool from Wullhalm. The two ships met up in Spudkirk before setting off on their dangerous voyage to the Bastion of the East. The New Heaven Sea had been filled with privateers and raiders of the Lotus Empire, hungry wolves searching for riches and glory. As luck would have it, after a couple of days at sea, the small consort woke up to a large war Junk lurking on the horizon. Had they not been on such an important task for the Mayor, there is no doubt our men would have sailed right at the Junk with guns blazing and a sword in each hand. But the settlement could not afford to loose any of the cargo, so they kept course and sailed as fast as they could, while firing with everything they had at the Loti Junk. For each hour that passed, the large and heavy warship fell farther and farther behind, until it eventually cut the chase. The two brigs arrived safely and on schedule to a heart warming welcome at Queenstons docks, where Mayor Scarver offered them free food and rooms at the tavern. The Muharib ended up leaving shortly after with sugar from the settlements new Royal Plantation. But the crew of the Fara suffered some damage during the shootout with the Junk, so the ship stayed anchored in port while the wounded were treated. The crew of the Fara even received some new members, as a handful of ex-privateers joined their crew. These experienced sailors had been part of Edward Scarver’s crew before he became Mayor of the colony. They had stayed there for awhile and helped wherever they could, but their hearts yearned for the sea, so after a final feast with their old cremates and captain, they set sail with the Fara. As they sailed into the sunset, Amin Raza, one of the carpenters of Scarver’s old crew on the Andromache, climbed on to the ratlines and listened to how calm it was. Just a few months ago you couldn’t spend more than a few days at sea without crossing one or several Loti pirates. But now they had spent a week at sea, and they had seen… nothing… crossed no-one… During the time he had stayed in Queenston, the allied invasion of New Oleonda was in full swing. He deducted that they must have pulled away their forces back to the island, now that our foot soldiers are knocking at their door. Perhaps they reassembled their fleet, preparing for a counter attack, hoping to separate our army by hindering our fleets from supplying them. Perhaps they left, perhaps all the pirates and privateers scattered away in fear of fighting in a loosing war… ---- This is my first entry to the Merchant Marine task from the GoC. I originally built the ship months ago, for @Professor Thaum as the prize to his upcoming contest, but it was changed to a microlicence instead. So I reworked the the brig into the Fara, a merchant brig armed with 12 cannons and 4 swivel guns. To be licenced as a class 5 medium square rigged brig for the ETTC. PS: It was my first time using photoshop so please don't hesitate giving me advice if you have any!

    [OL-FB] Patrol Galley

The Destrier Although the day of the war galley is long drowned, many still ply the seas. In Nouveau Oleandia, a Mokolei galley has been pressed into service by Provisional Command No.1. Due to the nature of galleys, they make for poor gunnery platforms but tend to compensate with high maneuverability and large compliments of men. These attributes are perfectly suited to armed, coastal patrol vessals. In the case of the Destrier, a revolving platoon of infantry from Nouveau Oleandia's 4e Regiment de Triallieur Dionysian, accompanies the vessal on its patrols. 23. "I told you to watch your health, my friend." Montoya sighed. "Not even Hercules himself would have been able to do what you attempted after such an ordeal." "I could have sworn I was almost as good as new..." Cooke insisted, stretching his arms. "But perhaps one should listen to his doctor..." "Now, I am up, back in strength both physically and mentally - only to find my beloved country at war, and myself without a ship! Languishing at shore..." "Bah, you know perfectly well you will soon feel the deck under your feet again. The Royal Navy is ever in need of competent officers, and you have proven yourself many a time. A command will come your way." Montoya said in an attempt to cheer up his friend. "To be perfectly honest, I would take any plank that could float, even that old tub!" Cooke pointed to the ancient-looking, but elegant caravel docked at the quayside. "Oh, is she a warship? I took her for a merchant..." "What a fellow you are, Isaac. As you see, she carries nary a gun. She is the old 'Chester Castle', a trader out of Balondia. Altough I have to say, her master keeps her in an excellent condition!" _______________________________ A build for Westface, which will be licensed as a medium commerce for myself. The ship will be posted and licensed separately. Here you see the full build:

    [MOC] Broadside Brig

My second entry into the 90th anniversary contest at LEGO Ideas. This build are actually two builds, One is based on the classic pirates set Broadside Brig (although it might as well be Lagoon Lock-up, the two are conceptually very similar)... ...The other is based on 6265 Sabre Island. But the real star of this creation is the little ship! The hull is very similar to my earlier one (Cross Bone Clipper) Only the Broadside Brig part has an interior, although there's plenty of space to make some on Sabre Island as well.
