  1. Hi, I have been trying and failing to make a small pneumatic car wth two cylinders that when air is pumped into an air tank, and a valve is released, the car will roll along a flat surface. Any ideas? Parts that I have: 2 (or 4) of the not-V2 style large cylinders 1 x Airtank 5 valves and 2 old style valves NOTE: I bought some small pumps, but they were all faulty.
  2. Hi everyone, I've finished this and decided to post a [MOC] topic for it. Thank you to everyone who helped me out in the [WIP] topic. Here is the finished model, with: 4x4 drive steering 2 M-Motors 1 XL- Motor motorized pneumatic compressor pneumatic extending crane pneumatic raising/lowering crane Side view.^^ Extended crane.^^ A frame of a car I made to show the truck towing a vehicle.^^ Here it is again, I may add PF to make a fast car.^^ Thank you and please tell me what you think.
  3. As many of you might have seen in Nicjasno's BMW e30 build episode 13, he's counting on volunteers to reverse engineer the chassis and build the body. So I decided to take up the challenge and reverse engineer the car. I first started with the rear suspension, since its simpler than the front one, and you may notice a bit of color vomit due to my lack of similar color pieces. I don't have the custom mini turntable hubs, so I just built place holders. After the rear suspension, I started on the front; first I tackled the hubs. Then, I moved onto the rest of the front suspension. Next up, the chassis, so stay tuned.
  4. Hi everyone I need some help to troubleshoot an issue that I'm having with a Pneumatic Pump. It has a leak, but I don't think that it is the piston or the one-way valve. I think that there may be a tiny hole in the black casing. Please watch this short (2 min) video for details: Has anyone experienced a similar problem, or have a solution? I was thinking that I could use some glue (hot glue / super glue / two-part epoxy) to block the hole, but I didn't want it to seep in and block the air flow completely. I've had this pump for a few years, but I think this is the first time that I have actually used it. If this is a manufacturing defect, do you think Lego would replace it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I triying to build the smallest pneumatic machine I can, 8 functions, 4 pneumatic autovalves and 5 motors but I don´t know yet... the fifth motor is just for the gearbox (yellow piece) without it I wouldn´t need a third receptor and in a small machine is a lot of extra room. Now you can see 4 motors, gearbox, 4 autovalves, the shifting mechanism and the outputs for the trasmision, I still have to put the stair and turntable mechanism, 4 pneumatic pumps, battery and 3 receptors with 1 motor or just 2 receptors, I am talking just about the body , I have to build tracks and two arms, normal and frontal type (this one needs the fourth autovalve to open and close it).

Hello, here I am with my object for this contest, made myself a crashcars slash bumpercars, completly like in reality for transport, just 2 mm space between the trailer and wheelpart to get it out, then lowering and start building... I use the pumps instead of a cyllinderenginepump, duo the weigt of the roof when open...is some weight on it, with 2 handpumps it goes faster.. the cyllinders you see are real lego technic but I bought them chromed at Aurimax at bricklink duo the fact that yellow is not my kind of colour and would be horrible to see in my bumpercars, I put a picture of it with the normal ones so you guys can witness it... so it contains: 4 cyllinders 4 cyllinder brackets 2 pneumatic switches 2 handpumps everything (exept the net offcourse) is lego, no fake lepin or 3th partiebricks... I just made a purple rooftop on it to be realstic, I'm breaking it off today so I will make a movie and post it tomorrow then on the entry forum, hope you guys like it,I know funfair is always a risky subject duo everyone making trucks and cranes...   10. Greetings All, Apologies for being very late to the party, but the TC10 pneumatic competition brings together my favourite parts of what technic is all about and I really wanted to contribute. A number of years ago I had to good fortune to come across a big bunch of pneumatic parts. Having worked on all sorts of pneumatic based MOC's my beloved wife put out the challenge to build her a steam train thus beginning a five year odyssey before finally arriving at the model I present to you all today. Creating a genuinely functioning Lego Pneumatic Locomotive has been a real challenge, searching the internet brings up very few examples. Creating a valve assembly that is both functional and reasonably robust within the confines of lego has proven quite the challenge. Rather than completely reinventing the wheel, I have based my model on a simplified version of Walschaerts Valve Gear that was used on many steam trains through history. I set out at the start of this competition to make a fully reversible valve gear as per the real thing but it proved too much of a challenge at this stage - see how the next few years pans out. The Model: Classic 4-8-2 locomotive configuration using 62.4 tyres for driving wheels old style clear pneumatic cylinders for drive old style pneumatic valves Six manually operated pneumatic pumps - this thing need lots of air. All parts use are original, unmodified, genuine Lego items. The reason I have used "old" style valves is that they are the ones that I could find with minimal resistance, allowing the whole system to function property. Starting with the final result for those of us into instant gratification; This is the final interpretation of my pneumatic locomotive. I will, however make you scroll further for the video. The key to the success of this model is has been in effectively copying the principals behind the walschaerts valve system where the throw of the valves is delayed by the eccentric on the main driving wheel. It is only once the piston ( pneumatic cylinder) has reached the end of it's stroke that the valve is thrown in the opposite direction to push it back the other way. The two valve trains on either side of the loco are offset by 90 degrees so that they "help" each other past the dead spot at the limits of each cylinder's stroke. No matter what I tried, the fundamental principal was "More Steam Coalmam!' In manual form, 6 pumps are required to provide adequate air supply. Four air reservoirs for the testing phase and three in the final model smooth the pulses from six manual pumps to a point that we have reasonably smooth motion. Lucky last, a brief video showing how it works. I'll try to post an ldraw of the basic mechanism in the not too distant future but instructions are well outside my current skill set.   11. Hi everyone. Here is my entry for this contest. As always i've build this with/for my childrens and as usual this model hass to be safe and secure for them. This said, i've been asking for long what to build for this contest. I didn't have that much pneumatics elements and i do thought that my chances with this contest were proportionals to the number of pneumatic parts i owned. Until i had a closer look at 42053 set... So i present here my vision of what could be a Volvo Handler (i think volvo didn't build this kind of machine) here it is: it is a very simple Moc. My main goal has been to integrate the powerfunctions elements (1 BB + 1 motor) and get the maximum playability with the Moc. I do use the battery pack as the main frame assembly of the model. this way, i think i realised one good design work on it. They are 3 pneumatics functions: 1- Main arm up and down 2- Fork tilting 3 - Fork thooth up and down. Also, there is one direction with HOG on the four wheels.This Moc is designed to be playable and fun to use. It doesn't need more function to scratch that goal ;) The functions work pretty well and the compressor is a very pleasant feature on a Moc like this one. The arm movement has a good range of action and is particulary powerfull due to the large pneumatics cylinder i used. ( i didn't have any other o:) ) Here is a back view. round design for the mudgards, a color scheme that fits with it's great sister 45053, custon stikers (official stikers sheet): On this view you can see the commands (3 orange commands) : the two backwards are for the arm movement and the lateral one is for the fork opening Detailed view of the fork i used. It is obvisouly possible to connect a regular bucket at this arm end: And once it is opened Detailed view on back design with the official Volvo stikers on it and the rounded mudgards In conclusion this Moc come perfectly together the 42053 Set and as well with my last Volvo crane truck.   12. Dear all, For the pneumatic contest, I've built a huge robot called ''Nemesis''(from the ancient greek goddess) and I would like to share it with you. Nemesis has 22 pneumatic functions operated by a double compressor. All pneumatic valves are operated only manually according to the competition. Has a weight of 8kg and consists of 8000 lego technic bricks. Total air cylinders : 26 large 11 mini The compressor uses 2 large pneumatic pumps operated by a PF XL motor. The maximum pressure that can be reached by this pneumatic system is 28 psi with fresh batteries. Due to more than 30 pneumatic ''T-air pieces''pressure cannot reach a higher level because there is a huge drag and the XL motor has no power to rotate more. The length of pneumatic tubes are between 0.5 and 1.5 meters long. Due to the large hoses, large air storage is needed because there is a lot of air loss in the system. The air of the whole system is stored inside 2 lego air tanks (although the system needed far more) : The compressor has an auto-pneumatic switch using a large cylinder, which turns the air engine off when the pressure reaches 24 psi. A manometer is used for showing the air pressure at any time. Functions : Nemesis has 2 arms. The bigger front arm has 15 pneumatic functions and the small back arm has 5 pneumatic functions. The small back arm has the following movements : a) small gripper b) elbow1 c) elbow2 d) shoulder e) shoulder rotation The huge front arm has the following movements : a) large gripper, operating 10 fingers independently having 2 mini cylinders each b) wrist, operating 2 functions (up-down and turning) c) elbow d) shoulder e) shoulder turning Besides, the robot has 2 more pneumatic functions : 1) Face movement 2) A third gripper which is mostly for fun (e.g. for scaring house cats) Here is the video of the project : Thanks for watching Good luck to everyone!

My entry is a log skidder with 4 pneumatic and 3 manual functions; - In-cabin steering via steering wheel - 4wd drive and fake 4 cylinder engine - Pendular front suspension - Front blade up/down with 1x5 piston - Boom section 1 up/down with 2 old pistons - Boom section 2 up/down with 2x11 piston -Claw open/close with 1x5 piston (also rotates with small turntable) I dont have a video yet but i will add later because i will not have time in workdays.   14. Hi! Today I’d like to present new model designed special for Pneumatic contest. It is heavy Rock Loader. At first I wanted to create tracked chassis but the final version is wheel-based. Transport dimensions: 88 x 25 x 27 cm, total weight – 5 kg (four large BBs in the tower are used as a counterweight). The model has no motors :) In the rear part of the model you can see eight pneumatic valves: - Clearance adjustment, left and right independent (six large cylinders); - Outriggers deployment (four small 11L cylinders); - Outriggers (eight large cylinders); - Superstructure rotation (+-90 degrees, two large cylinders); - Boom lifting (two large 11L cylinders); - Boom extension (two large 11L cylinders); - Bucket unloading (two large cylinders).   15. Hi everyone, I figured I'd have a bash at this contest, so here's my entry: I decided to go with a Snow Groomer for this. It has six pneumatically powered functions, along with manually driven tracks: Raising and lowering of the front blade Tilting left and right of the front blade Adjust the front blade's wings Raising and lowering of the front end of the vehicle's undercarriage Raising and lowering of the rear tilling blade Raising and lowering of the tilling blade's smoothing plates and rollers All controls for these functions are in the rear bed. I opted for a manual pump rather than a motorized one, as the contest is, after all, pneumatically focused. All photos are on my Flickr, but I'm going to post them all here anyway as I doubt everybody will see them there.   16. Helly everybody, Here is my discussion topic for the TC10 contest. I have made a Heavy Lift Telehandler. I almost finished the model, but I will show the progress in steps. In this first post I will show you the chassis of the model. On this photo you can see the chassis with a box where the boom is going to twist. There are also two big v2 pneumatic cylinders to lift the boom. On the second photo you can see how I made the motor with a pneumatic pump. It was hard to fit both the motor and the pump horizontaly . If you have any tips or questions please post them here. This is the first time I'm making photos in this way, so if they are not so good give me some tips how I can improve the quality. I will soon give you an update of my build. ps: the stickers on the rear 7 beams are there because I haven't enough of these beams at the moment. Later you won't see these any more, because the boom is in there.
  17. So i just saw These parts: this parts came out before my "lego time" . I watched some Reviews on yt. They seem to be a bit slow. I think i could modify them a bit (harder spring etc.) Does anyone of you Afol´s have experience with these shock Absorbers used in this way?

My plan is an underground mining loader, like the ones from CAT, etc. Functions: - pneumatic bucket tilting - pneumatic bucket raising/lowering - manual steering - 2 cylinder fake piston engine - 4x4 drivetrain The progress looks like this, will be finished until deadline IRL, I think: More progress and real life pictures coming soon. My entry for the contest is a Side Loader Garbage Truck, based on KO-440 (GAZ-3309 chassis): Features & Functions: HOG steering Flat-2 engine Opening hood Container lift Container tilt Dumping Opening tailgate It was a real trouble to make dump function work. It only allows to set a thin long cylinder, which is not enough to lift much. For the contest I left it that way, but generally it’s perfect with the small linear actuator; in the video I show both versions. Video:
  20. Had some inspiration to build another little pneumatic model after thinking of my little wheel loader that I build a couple of years ago. They aren't the same scale, because I was going for a look where the small pumps look "big" on the bulldozer. So this is smaller. Functions: - Blade up/down with pneumatics - Plow up/down with pneumatics - Mini V4 engine with differential A little video: Some more pics: I wanted to use that panel for the front blade, because I think it suits it. Decided to add a little grey line to fit with the sides and break up an otherwise very yellow blade In this photo of the side you can also see the blue "chair" (2L pin joiner) that I use to contol the pump below the "chair". The blue hose above the engine is from the pump. I tried to hide the switches at the rear as much as I could, while still being easy to access. Next photo a little more up close: Used Lego's colour coding for the pneumatic hoses. Plow ready for some lifting action. Or to actually plow... You probably wonder why on earth did I want a diff in there? Well I wondered that myself as well actually a couple of time during the build, but the real life versions got it, so why not this It sure provided a fun challenge to route all those hoses around it. It's very snug, but nothing touches the gears or the engine. Thanks for watching.
  21. I'd like to show you my progress on my pneumatic tank. It includes the following functions: Driving Rotating of turret Shooting Barrel adjustment Both tracks can be controlled separately. I used gearracks to transform the linear motion into rotation to drive the tracks. I used a combination of gears to allow the tracks to move forward by extending and contraction of the cylinders. Therefore it is ony possible to drive forward. I limited the rotation of the turret by a 90 degrees to the left and 90 degrees to the right. This allows for the hoses to go through the turntable. The shooting mechanism shoot when the cylinders extend, and when the retract. This allows for relatively fast shooting. Do you have any suggestions what can be added or improved, just let me know.

  23. Hi, Here is my progress so far on my attempted entry for the pneumatic challenge: I am trying to build an AT-AT walker, but is proving to be very, very challenging ... The mess of tubes inside the structure are part of the pneumatic sequencer that control the legs. For each leg four phases are defined: 1) Whole leg backwards 2) Bend knee to lift lower leg 3) Move leg forward & straighten knee 4) Move straight leg backwards The four legs are kept out of phase with each other to keep at east two legs straight at all times (either forward or backwards). In fact the sequence is not ideal, since 2 out of the 4 phases have a leg in the air (2+3), while idealy only one phase should have a leg in the air because then there are always 3 legs supporting the weight. What definitely not helps is the hopelessly high center of gravity combined with a ridiculous small base for the feet. With a manual pump I can make the whole assembly walk to some degree (well, walk, let's call it stumbling forward), but after a few steps it usually topples over sideways. When I add the batterybox and a small pump it doesn't even move the legs when I lift the model in the air. Apparently one small pump does not build up enough pressure... So, decision time... Option 1) Continue with the model (I do have some cool ideas for the head still including a simple return to center mechanism for rotating the head ). Solve the pressure issue with either more small pumps or by going manual (saves weight as well) Option 2) Abandon project and go for a six-legged walker (AT-TE) which is much less of a challenge, but has therefor also a much higher chance of actually working in the end. What would be your advice? Jeroen
  24. Here is my entry into the contest a tracked dumper with crane. Based off a Morooka/Terramac style crawler carrier platform. Planned Features - Pneumatic Dump Bed - Pneumatic Crane - Detailed Track System - Detailed Cab/Engine Compartment - Pneumatic Pump driven by M-Motor Build Progress Here are some photos of the undercarriage: The dump platform is based off the MB Arocs, but will be further modded to fit this build. Here is a mock up of the crane, based off MB Arocs/effermanns modded design. This will be changed almost completely since it is too large. The crane and dump section need to be redone since they copy an already built design. I just wanted to see how scale and function would work on the tracks. The track design took me a while to figure out since this is my first creation in Technic. I want it to be somewhat modular to help with installing Pneumatics. More to come...
