    Classic Space Koenig Monster

Back in 2017, I finished my second version of the Koenig Monster from the Macross anime series. My first version was about another third larger, but the joints just couldn't handle the weight, and I subsequently decided to downsize and try again. Fortunately, I was able to make it work. Initially, I wanted to use a two-tone tan with red accents as the color scheme, based upon some art I found online, but as I worked on fleshing out ideas in LDD, I discovered to my dismay that a number of the parts I needed weren't available in the tans at the time, and having accumulated a lot of blue and gray, decided, like my first attempt, to just build it in Classic Space colors and styling. It stands about 15 and a half inches tall to the tips of its cannons, transforms without removing parts between all three modes, is fully articulated, and features retractable landing gear in shuttle mode. Since these pics were taken, I've since updated the canopy section with a more line-art accurate access panel using the 4x4 trans-yellow dish from last year's Batcave set. Eventually I'll take some pics. Hope you like. https://www.flickr.com/photos/95379588@N08/44181063412/in/album-72157666939175729/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/95379588@N08/42422129770/in/album-72157666939175729/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/95379588@N08/44181265472/in/album-72157666939175729/

    My first Lego space display

This is the first proper Lego Space scene I have ever constructed. The display is centred around Classic Space, but I've added some later items and parts (mostly acquired second-hand) for interest. I found most of the Classic Space items and figures at an exhibition more than a year ago, but it was Benny's Space Squad that proved the impetus for doing this scene. The background is from a Klutz 'Lego Make Your Own Movie' book/kit. The base plate was a dark grey clone brand (Wilco Blox) plate until I found two slightly worn classic 'moon' plates on sale for just £6 each in a small independent shop. I quickly snapped up both! What do you think? Any comments or questions welcome.
  3. Elves in space! Surely that must be the next step in the evolution of the theme Two models are from the Classic Space range, the third you might recognize from another space theme. My biggest problem now is that I have more ideas than I have bricks in the right colours I don't think my daughter want me to take apart all of her sets.... [MOC] Another perfect day in space

A Classic Space vignette by yours truly. I had a *lot* of fun making this, for sure - it's my first ever serious display scene, and I'm quite proud of it. What do you think? Check the album for more angles and detail shots, and check my signature for a more general-purpose Classic Space collection. Thanks for looking! ^u^

    Classic Space Custom Sticker/Print

Hey all. So it occurs to me that, now that we have the non-cracked blue updated Classic Space helmet in the Ninjago Gamer’s Market, the only thing we need to make a non-Benny, generic Blue Classic Spaceman is the torso in blue with a non-faded Classic Space logo. (And anyone who bought more than one TLM2 set with Benny will have that, personally I think I have at least four.) The only thing left to do is either create a custom sticker or custom print of the logo and slap it on a spare Benny torso with a classic smiley face and the non-cracked helmet. So, is there anyone more skilled at customisation than me who knows how I’d go about doing that?
  6. Hello, I used to have a large collection of classic space sets (sprinkled with some Futuron and Blacktron II) as a kid in the late 80s / early 90s. Driven by strong nostalgia I decided to buy a set for a showcase. I decided on the 70816 Benny's Spaceship, as the closest modern approximation, and I like it very very much. I also discovered there has been this re-imagining of the classic space theme among the fans with more modern components and building methods. I would very much like to try to build something like the LL-605 Marauder, or LL-497, but I have no idea where to start. I remember the ships of old to be much more blocky, so I assume these are built in a different way, surely utilizing components from modern sets (Star Wars?) that I know absolutely nothing about. Would some kind soul recommend me what would be the best way to accumulate necessary basic pool of bricks for this theme quickly and efficiently (I'm ready to spend several hundred dollars initially) - maybe identify some critical sets, and direct me to either some instructions on basics how such sets are built or even recommend some MOCs with existing manual for me to start with? Thank you.

Do kids today like Classic Space?

As someone who had most of the Classic Space sets of the 1970s and early 1980s when they came out, I was thrilled to find out LEGO would be releasing a couple of Classic Space inspired sets as part of the forthcoming TLM 2 range (pictured below). Judging by posts online, lots of other AFOLs of a certain vintage seem to agree. But do kids these days like Classic Space? Will the sets below be hits with AFOLs only or will kids like them too? Or are they too blocky and retro to appeal to LEGO's main demographic?
  8. The space engineers have finally completed their latest project, the LL 75181 BTL-L1 Y-wing Starexplorer with detachable exploration/research module. The Y-wing is heavily modified in the rear to make room for the docking port and necessary reinforcements. The docking system is based on a design used on several older space ships in our fleet. The new module has room for two researchers. On the outside you can see the foldable antennas, an extendable air lock and a small transport ship. Inside you'll find all necessary functions for extended research missions. New adventures await us, beyond the stars! It's considerably smaller than LL 10179...

    toastergrl's Classic Space Fleet

Hi, denizens of the Sci-Fi forum! Despite being like 30 years too young, Classic Space is definitely one of my favourite themes. I don't want to just pick up the old stuff, though (that'd definitely get expensive) - I want the experience of making my own MOCs and set mods to fit within the ecosystem. To that end, I've finally managed to take a bunch of pictures to show off my stuff. What helped kickstart this stuff was the sheer cheapness and easy availability of 70841-1 Benny's Space Squad, of which I am barely restraining myself from getting multiple copies of. From there, it was an easy leap to 70821-1 Emmett and Benny's Build & Fix Workshop and its Space Cruiser build. I did end up picking the Ideas Exo Suit, but had a few issues with it - it was way too neoclassic for me. I can understand that greebles are of interest to some people, but that level of overdetail is not for me. To that, end, I decided to make my own, classic-style Exo Suit. From there, the rest of this spiralled outwards and upwards to greater and greater heights. Utilising the Mixels ball joint system, my classic-ised Exo Suit is remarkably stable and sturdy, and I think I managed to approximate the studs-exposed, detail-less style of the original sets quite well without having any vintage design to base it on, whilst maintaining some visual continuity with the bulky, large-armed shape of Peter Reid's design. In homage to the original Exo Suit, I think this pilot's name is Yvenny. (Sorry, Pete - your name can't be enny-ised while remaining recognisable!) I've lifted her helmet up a little bit to try and make it look like the classic helmet without having a green version of that part available. Maybe eventually... The Traffic Control building on the right, however, is both more and less original at the same time. While I built it entirely out of parts I had on-hand without adhering to any instructions, the design has ended up quite similar to the space shed packed in with the original Galaxy Explorer. I would have liked to include a Classic Space logo print part, but the dang Benny BrickHeadz is way too expensive now. Oh well... Just a little showing off on how good those ball joint parts on the Exo Suit are. It can hold the space cruiser from 70821-1 Emmett and Benny's Build & Fix Workshop above its head without any external support! (It looks like the antenna on its back is providing some of the support, but I promise you that no weight is on it and it's just a clearance thing!) Benny, of course, is mortified. "Don't drop Jenny and my sibling!" he cries out. Yvenny's doing too good a job to care, though. This goliath is definitely the centerpiece of my collection. I really liked 70816-1 Benny's Spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP!, but had some qualms with the more ostentatious elements of the design like the flickfire winglets, the rounded nosecone, the Technic missile housings and the excessive greebling across the board. I've made a few customisations to help make it fit in with a simpler-looking crowd! One of my chief missions with the simplification of this thing was to reduce its reliance on Dark Bluish Grey/Dark Stone Grey parts, since that was a big distractor. While I haven't been able to find replacement parts for the underside or the big octagonal plate, things are a LOT cleaner now and I'm much happier for it. You'll also notice I didn't apply any stickers. (Well, that's not quite true - I did apply the computer screen stickers and reactor core stickers on the inside, but I don't have a consistent enough lighting setup to get good shots where they'd be visible.) The way I see it, adding stickers just means a way I can mess this up. I don't have the steadiest hands, and this thing is way too good for that kind of treatment. I named this the "Galaxy Spearhead" in homage to both the Galactic Spearhead and the Galaxy Explorer, two LEGO builds I'm not likely to ever have my own versions of. As much as I like LEGO, it would be irresponsible to have it take over my budget like that... To top it off, a group shot of one of each of the true-classic minifigs I have, plus another angle of the Exo Suit! More pics are available at my Flickr! That's all I have for now, but maybe I'll have more to share later. Thanks for taking a look! ^u^ ---------------------------------------------------- Update #1 - Star Hopper, Transport Buggy, and Mobile Exploration Rover Update #2 - Proto Light Hover, Rocket Launch Trailer, Stellar Comet, and crowd scene
  10. The Speed Champions line has been a breath of fresh air from Lego for me. Small, impeccably designed sets that were a joy to build and play with. But....But....I am a space head at heart. And I kept saying why doesn't Lego make space sets like these. And then I'd say something about how it is Lego and they don't need to do squat. I can do it. So, MOC 1 of the Space Champions line combines: https://brickset.com/sets/6872-1/Xenon-X-Craft with https://brickset.com/sets/75891-1/Chevrolet-Camaro-ZL1-Race-Car to get the Xenon X2-Craft. Look at how happy he looks with his Space Champion upgrade. Maybe by the time I get to MOC 2 of this theme I'll figure out a way to photograph it so it looks good. It is much better in person and very very swooshible. A few more pictures are there on Flickr. Anyway, I hope you like it. Comments, even negative ones, are always appreciated. -Tohst
  11. Pretty much as soon as pictures of the City Space 2019 sets appeared online, AFOLs were pointing out their conceptual similarities to Classic Space. I have taken that a step further by recolouring one of the 2019 sets, 60224 Satellite Service Mission, making it consistent with the Classic Space sets of the early to mid-1980s. It is not a true retro mod as the parts and building techniques are those of today, not those of 35+ years ago. So it should really be called Neo Classic Space. I replaced the minifigure with one more in keeping with the earlier period. The repositioning of the wingtips, if you're wondering, was not to make the ship more retro. I just think they look better attached underneath than on top. Here is the 2019 set: And here is my mod: I like to think that the satellite to be deployed by the ship will be communicating with the Classic Space mobile station (and ATV) I recreated a few years ago and still in my display collection: I haven't yet decided whether I will retro mod any of the other 2019 City Space sets. If anyone wants to post below their own mod of 60224 or indeed any other of this summer's releases, please do. I would be most interested in seeing what is out there. Questions, comments, classic colour confusion?

    Classic Space Outpost MOC

Hello everyone. I haven't been out of the dark ages for long - just 3 or so years. Although the Millennium Falcon is what dragged be back into LEGO, my passion has always been with Classic Space. I've spent ages (literally ages) creating this base. I submitted it to LEGO Ideas last year, and then proceeded to making massive changes to it. I have submitted the modified version it to Lego Ideas recently, but would really value a discussion about it with people on this board :)

    MOC: Brick-Built City Billboards

8 Billboards so far... by Humble Bricksmith, on Flickr Over the past year, I've been working on making city billboards, depicting classic LEGO themes. Billboards are a great way to add unique flair and character to any LEGO city or diorama. Without using any printed bricks, it becomes very difficult to create small details without scaling up your creation. I figured that billboards are a good compromise between detail and scale. For anyone interested, check out my Flickr, or support me on LEGO Ideas! Also, you're welcome to download LDD or Studio files of these projects Here.

    [GAME] Classic Space Adventure

I hope that it is ok to make a post about a game that I have created (perhaps some of you already have played it). The game is called Classic Space Adventure and is a free web game programmed in HTML5 that you play in your browser (Chrome or Firefox) using your keyboard. It is inspired by the Classic Space theme so you will notice many of these sets in the game. You can play the game here, or check out the webpage for the game here. There is also a Facebook page for this game and it would be appreciated if you wanted to follow it. I make posts about the game there now and then. In total there are more then 60 different characters and enemies, and the game takes approxamately 4-5 hours to finish. It is written in the programming language Javascript and took me about two years resulting in almost 400 pages of code. The music I have composed in Famitracker, a program where you can create Nintendo 8-bit music. Hope you will enjoy it and let me know if you have any questions regarding the game! Below are some of the sets that you will find in the game that I have recreated in a pixelated style. This was how the game looked like at the very beginning of the development, compared to when it was finished in 2018/19. The resolution was lower and with much fewer details and colors. Here are some of the enemies that I have built in real LEGO. For most of the enemies and characters in the game I built them first in real LEGO-bricks. Box-Kloss is the first boss you will encounter! For the game I also needed to develop a game editor where I can easily build each level by just placing bricks, characters and enemies where I want them. It is not that pretty though. :)
  16. I just wanted to share some things I built using 1-2 copies of the new Lego Movie sets with Classic Space pieces. I think it's neat to show what can be done with just a couple copies of these sets. They're good parts packs in my opinion. FYI using only parts from multiple copies of one set to build something is called a "multibuild". What I've done here is mix both of the new sets in some cases which is maybe not a true multibuild but I think it makes sense to mix the two Classic Space sets. The first thing I tried was a simple alt build of Emmet and Benny's Fixit Shop (70821). Nothing special but sorta fun: Then I set a goal to recreate some older sets, or at least see how close I could get to the original. The first I tried was Mobile Rocket Transport. I used only two copies of 70821. The parts were perfect to get a very similar look to the original. I thought I could improve the rocket and crew a bit by adding one copy of Benny's Space Squad to the above. I was able to add a removable satellite to the rocket like the original and make a better looking (IMO) radar dish. Next up is Space Supply Station. I used two copies each of 70821 and 70841. Obviously the color scheme is 1978 space not 1983 space but I don't care about that. I tried to recreate the double windscreen, double radar dish, double space scooters, and two rovers. I have one other old set I want to try to recreate if I can get around to it. Anyone else have alt builds or multibuilds of these sets?

I don't think a topic for this exists on EB, so discuss this building style here! You can post your MOCs here, too.
  19. Greetings all. In the wake of the new Classic Space stuff being released as part of TLM2, I'm starting to think that I, as a relatively new AFOL (really a TFOL), should be interestd in tracking down part of such an iconic part of Lego history. I have already purchased the 4+ Emmet and Benny Workshop set (for the Classic Space ship mostly, though the actual workspace area is going into a MOC) and . . well, I would have purchased Benny's Space Squad, but someone (or, really, a lot of someones) bought up the entire stock on Shop@Home. So I suppose I'll have to wait until the folks in Denmark can compensate for demand, but I do intend to get it. Of course, this leaves me with a problem; I will have ships and rovers, but no actual Classic Space Moon-/Asteroid-/Wherever-the-hell-in-Space-Base. I do have some display space open on a high shelf, though; enough for one baseplate with some things hanging over the edge on one side. Which brings me to my question; who here is an experienced purveyor of Classic Space who could point me to an appropriate set? Preferably containing some sort of base of operations, at least some room for a ship (though not necessarily including a ship, as I already have that covered) and, necessarily, mostly fitting on a single baseplate? Or would I be better off either MOCcing something or waiting and hoping that the second and third waves of TLM2 sets include a new Classic Space moonbase?

    52035 space bikes

So, I've been building little spacebikes based on this bike fairing part for a while, and by that I mean a couple years or something. IMO the motorcycle is terrible, ridiculously huge, but the fairing's good for little spacecraft. It was even used for this set 5969 prototype. anyways, group shot The Blacktron version's the definitive one. and 100% legal legos, so I used it as a base for this instructions page There's a bunch of others in my flickr gallery if anybody's bored and curious, cheers
  21. Welcome aboard the Astro-train! This stream-liner was a mix of the 1910's Earth train called the "Bipolar" built specifically for use by Classic Space forces as high-speed, high-security ground transports for senior level officers such as Benny. Unlike the Earth version, the Astro-train is super-streamlined, and can go up to speeds of up to 400 MPH on special track, with super-elevated curves and long straight-away's of tens of miles.\ BUILDER'S NOTES: In reality, I liked my original take on the Classic Space Aerotrain, but it can't be built due to design and motorization issues. thus, I stretched the design into the model you see here but with my Super Bipolar at the head. This will be able to allow the engine to pull freight cars, (such as Benny's road car on a flat car) too. This model was inspired by both a 1999 version of the original, real-world Bipolar engine built by user Legosteveb and by a digital-only design by @Sunder to create the Super Bipolar you see in my picture above. Note, the two 4 x 2 slopes should have this CS print while the four white 1 x 1 tiles should have this "60" print. Also, a bonus for this engine model is if I ever show off this train at a LEGO show, I can replace the middle wheel-set on the loco with another person's 9V motor swapped in to power the train. This is the baggage car, and like the rest of the train, all the doors open. (Although there are no interior details, so it can be whatever you want it to be inside!) These are the two passenger cars. The observation car. This is the complete train. I'm planning on building this in 2019 in real bricks, at some point, hopefully. Anyway, comments, questions, complaints, and suggestions are always welcome!

    [MOC] NCS Surface Transport

This MOC had been sitting on my desk for the better part of a year without being photographed, because I couldn't come up with a way I liked to display it. Then @soccerkid6 posts his beautiful Dwarven Ballistas in GoH and blew me away so much, I copied his terrain to present as the base of my MOC. A Castle MOC inspired a Space MOC? You bet. More pics below:
