  1. He didn't say yes or no about a lot of stuff, we haven't got a categoric answer about any kind of space theme. As far as we know, LEGO might... or might not be planning something. However, if you're looking for a Mars theme from LEGO, our little yellow minifig friends have already gone there ;)
  2. Good point, julesvincent. I'm sure there's loads he knows that he just can't reveal yet because the plans, sets, goals, etc haven't officially been announced.
  3. I’m surprised about Mike’s concern about nostalgia, as I thought nostalgia played a big part is many sets LEGO create. As Danth said, the snowspeeder was a great example: a highly detailed vehicle last seen 38 years ago. But what about last year’s modular expert building? It was 100% nostalgia too, filled with detail that reminded you of previous modular buildings. Nostalgia sells, especially with this particular toy. I know there’s an appetite for Classic Space sets (I’m a huge fan myself), so you have to wonder what are LEGO waiting for? 2018 would’ve been a perfect time to test the waters with a single set (as it’s the 40th anniversary of Classic Space), maybe a modular expert one as raised in the interview, to see how many people actually are interested in an in-house sci-fi theme (kinda the reason I submitted my own model on LEGO Ideas ;) So if the designers are wondering if it’s worrh delving back into space or not, why was nothing ready for the anniversary?

Putting it in the signature is a great idea. Thanks Exetrius. Yes I as I said above, I might have been a tad exuberant, but I've taken some pills for that and it shouldn't happen again. I have a major update planned for my LEGO Ideas project which will radically change how the inside is built and looks, so I can't really stop working on it just yet. After that, we'll see. I might retire from LEGO MOCing for a while... it's an expensive hobby. Oh btw Exetrius, I already support your awesome project - that's because I put my vote where my mouth is and support all the best Classic Space LEGO Ideas! ;)
  5. The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

Yeah. I had a feeling I might’ve overstepped the bounds. But all I saw were people lamenting the loss of LEGO space sets and no matter how many times I tried to make them feel better by pointing out this potential option, they didn’t pick up on it. It was as though my posts were under some kind of cloaking device. I’ll try and calm down...
  6. Guys, I got tired of waiting for LEGO to do right by us so I submitted this: maybe if enough vote for it, it could force LEGO’s hand?
  7. The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

Guys, I want a new LEGO space theme as much as the mad about sci-fi AFOL (because I’m one of them!), but we might have to resign ourselves to the fact LEGO won’t fill that need. But as a firm believer of that saying in that animated movie Robots, “see a need, fill a need!” So…behold, Planetary Outpost! Why don’t we show LEGO a thing or two by getting this project to 10,000 so they’d have to seriously consider reviving their home grown sci-fi lines? Let’s to it for all those sci-fi fans out there who believe there’s more to the genre than Star Wars! :)

Thanks! I hadn't realised how hard it is to get people to your project and actually vote for it! And since I haven't got 10,000 mates, I'm languishing in the low 200s - for now (I'm an optimist! rofl) Thankfully, I'm doing this for fun, and it's teaching me about LEGO design too (currently working on a major update which will alter the interiors of each of the 5 configurations using totally different building techniques).
  9. The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

Don't cry Spock. Vote for this and all your wishes will come true (well, if 10,000 of you do, and LEGO agree to turn it into an actual set!)
  10. The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

I agree that many official LEGO designers like Classic Space. I’ve spoken to a handful and they do state that. So the lack of any new space sets may be a company decision that is beyond them. They could be in the same boat as us :(
  11. LEGO Ideas' Moments in Space - A Gift-With-Purchase Contest

Less Moments in Space More Moment Distracting Your Child at the Mall While you Shop I actually like the design, but I totally agree, it doesn't fulfil the brief.
  12. The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

Ouch! But it certainly feels that way. It's a nice built set, but it's definitely *not* a "moment in space"... they gave us the exo suit a few years back and we all got so excited!...
  13. The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

well, you do know LEGO being into kid toys, cute plays a big part in their business, right? lol
  14. The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

No, I was referring to third party licences have the monopoly on sci-fi and LEGO's own yellow-faced space exploration has been mothballed.
  15. The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

Agreed. There were lots of great sets and my favourite was even in the runner ups (the big fat round rocket). I guess this shows that yellow minifigs need not apply for sci-fi space adventures (officially, that is) ?
