  1. Ahoy, mateys! Here's my Challenge V - Category C entry. Witness the return of the Colonial MinionsTM *evil laughter in the background* Don't Tread on Meeeee!! After their unsuccessful attack on the Marderian fortress of El PeĂ±Ă³n, the remaining Eslandian Black Bats were ordered to refresh and regroup on the Southern shores of the Isla de Medio - away from the awful fighting. Unfortunately, no place is really safe from the mayhem those dreadful Colonial MinionsTM are capable of spreading wherever they happen to show up. And as it so happened, they did. Of all the places in the Brick Seas it had to be here. Exactly now. And the camp the Eslandians had set up was right in their way. Well, actually, more in the pathway their latest pet decided to take... Seemingly a fish in a wet suit. What exactly it is and where they got it from, no-one really knows. One thing is for sure, though - it's ridiculous in every aspect. And yet terrifying enough to turn the feared Eslandian crack troops into a bunch of screaming chickens as they are trying to escape the incomprehensible menace that's coming down on them... About: I absolutely wanted to mobilize the Minions for this category, there was just too much potential here to forgo this opportunity The idea for the 'monster' is based on the Futurama reverse scuba suit - ridiculous enough to be translated into bricks. As usual, all can be built - and maybe I'm going to build this land fish thingy for real... a friend of mine said it'd be a worthy decorative object for her flat... well... I hope you enjoyed this latest chapter in the Menacing Minions Book. C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  2. My entry for Category B of Challenge V, as well as a bonus entry to ABS Builder challenge. Credit for the arch design goes to Mark of Falworth. The Katoren siege-workshop is in full swing as they manufacture all types of siege weapons for the war against the Spire. More pictures on Brickbuilt Thanks for looking, C&C welcome
  3. After building Chenonceau, I was in a bit of a micro mood, and thought it would be fun to try my hand at a micro siege workshop. The whole build is only 8Ă—8, and includes four micro siege weapons: one ballista, two catapults, and one siege tower. Dwarves in Mitgardia have long been masters of creating devastating siege weapons. With new demand for armament to battle the Spire, these Dwarven craftsmen have put their forges to work forging powerful ballistas, catapults, and more. Thanks for looking, comments and suggestions always welcome
  4. Kaliphlin is known for its abundance of oil, and in Barqa the alchemists and craftsmen joined forces long ago to make this into the fearsome weapon known as "Barqan Fire". It is most commonly used on board warships, but smaller horse-drawn war machines have also started to be made for use in land combat. Unfortunately they are not very reliable yet and are not without reason feared almost as much among the Kaliphlinites themselves as by their foes. In this siege workshop in Barqa, a completed fire wagon is ready for transport to support the war against the Spire. The soldier doing the final adjustments to the pumping mechanism has however unknowingly built up way too much pressure in the cylinder... Siege workshop in Barqa Accidental release of the Barqan Fire... Accidental release of the Barqan Fire... Closeup of a Barqan Fire Wagon Closeup of the fire pumping mechanisms ready to be mounted on new wagons Siege workshop in Barqa Fire! (Photographed with only the blacklight) It was a challenge to get the lighting good for this build, getting enough blacklight to give a good fluorescent glow but not too much so that the rest of the build turned all blue... Here is the photo setup, where the speedlight was fired at maximum power and mix of light was regulated by how long the exposure time was after the flash. Typically I used 10-30 s.
  5. It was a bright day and the sun was beating down on the streets of Kings Port. Inside the governor's hall the temperature and the mood was much milder. Admiral van Draumen had found the courage to propose to her - Princess Vinapptshitshi of Mardier, King Alphonso's beloved daughter. As he kneeled down before her she gladly answered his beaming smile - and his proposal by a softly whispered "yes". Van Draumen had backed his proposal with a show-off of his riches, but it seemed that the princess cared more for him than for his money. Which was good, as van Draumen did not expect the King to approve of this marriage. Troubled times lay ahead, but this was not the time to worry. This was a day to celebrate C&C Welcome.
  6. The Eagle at the Great Wall of Hesperia A build for the Alliance in Book II, Challenge V, Category A "We have to make all speed, Aeriglaaac, to get this message to King Fingolë the Golden," said Celdrian the Eagle Rider. "The eastern elves were very particular about making haste. The heir to Cedrica returning will be news welcome to his ears, I think, even if the humans of Avalonia and all of Historica are hardly his concern. Lord Ravaage certainly is his concern, though." "EEAAAAAK!" "You're right, Aeriglaaac, as usual. It would be fun to buzz the tower over at the peak of Oronech, wouldn't it? I love keeping those guards on their toes." "EEAAAAAAAAAAAK RAAAAK!" "You see Prince Fingalad at the tower with your eagle eyes? Excellent, a chance to show off our flying skills!" "EAAAK EEEAAAAAAK EEEEEEK!" "Ok, alright, your flying skills, then." "EEAAAAK!" "Let's go!" "What the..." said Prince Fingalad. "Eagle Riders. Cocky bunch. How I despise them, however useful they may be." More pictures: _____________________________________________________________________ .......................................................................................................................................... Thanks for looking! C&C welcome. Hopefully the overhang is not unreasonable. The base of the build is 248 studs, slightly smaller than the 256 of a 16x16 base, though the decorative border adds to that (but doesn't count, thankfully).
  7. Evening Falls Like a Vulture's Wing A build for the Spire in Book II, Challenge V, Category A As the sun set below the horizon, Ellardin the elf messenger slumped back against the rock. His body was afire with pain every time he moved, as the spear points and arrows lodged in him dug a little deeper into his vitals, and it would not be long now. A rustling behind his ear caused him to look up. A black vulture was perched on the rock inches from his face, its eyes looking hungrily from its red bald head. Ellardin looked away and sighed. His bloody fingers clutched the letter to King Fingolë the Golden, knowing that it would never make it to its destination; those drow huntsmen had made sure of that. More vultures circled and landed around Harafel, his horse, as the light dimmed. The sound of beaks tearing at the soft innards caused the elf to shudder, which in turn caused him to cry out softly in pain as the points worked inwards. The evening was falling quickly now, and the vultures were coming in thickly. Darkness had come. More pictures: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- .............................................................................................................................. Thanks for looking, and C&C welcome. Gideon's vulture design was the inspiration for this build, so a big shout out to him for being inspirational.
  8. Category A 1 by Brandon Stark, on Flickr Category A 2 by Brandon Stark, on Flickr The Mardierian Death Guard prepares to make an arrest on a recently married couple from two rebel aligned families, while the unsuspecting couple inside is enjoying their honeymoon inside a King's Port house.
  9. The moonlit night was cold and icy. His horse had been shot underneath him and so he was carrying on through the snowy night. But wait: there was a shadow before him, surely one of his enemies. He readied his double-axe, preparing for battle. He did not see the other warrior, standing on higher ground... Some more shots to illustrate the scene: This picture gives a better view of the footsteps in the snow: C&C welcome! ...................................................................................................................................................................... It has occurred to me that I need to depict the late horse too. However, this seems to kill the mood of the scene...
  10. Alright here is my entry for category A of Challenge V, enjoy. The message was out... From all corners of Historica, messengers rode, carrying news of the war and the new king. Along the Kaliphlin coastland, time was of the essence, and the fastest route was by sea. Messengers set sail in tiny ships to travel quickly to all ports in Kaliphlin. Here a man dashes from his docked boat bellowing his message to all who will here him. A pic of just the wall. A pic from the side. A pic from the other side. A pic of the merchant selling valuable aromatics and perfumes. Thanks for viewing. C&C appreciated. Good luck to everyone in this three part contest. :)

  12. This is my entry for the Category A of Challenge V in Guilds of Historica. On a sunny morning there was clamor and fear in the streets of Norvica. What was going on why some residents of this peaceful town are sceaming and flee into their houses ? A Nocturnian orc was riding on a horse with a fasten prisoner draging behind him. Everybody recognize this prisoner, it was Bundar the farmer, he lives in a ranch a few miles outside the city. Wait a minute, orcs never ride horses, that must be Bundar his horse he is riding on !! Two members of the royal guards of Norvica are coming in action and try to make a ambush for this Nocturnian orc and free Bundar. Lets hope they make this nightmare to a good end, because the guards of Norvica never got a challenge like this before. For more pictures look on my Flickr account.
  13. Let this be a warning to one and all - there will be no running from us, even the darkness will not hide you. We will find you, and your every secret will be laid bare.
  14. My main goal for this little build was to experiment with some less common colors in the buildings, and a few new techniques. I’m pretty pleased with how the SNOT design of the dark red tudor building worked out. Credit for the cobblestone technique goes to Mike. A Mitgardian courier brings the long awaited news of the Heir of Cedrica, and Daydelon rejoices. More pictures. Thanks for looking
  15. Challenge V Cat A by Brandon Stark, on Flickr Many thoughts were on Farlen's mind as he rode through the Avalonian countryside. A few days ago, he had been ordered by man named Kevan at his Green Rider's headquarters in Albion to carry a message into the Mystic Isles. He was not given much information, besides his destination, Doriath, and a few other news relating to the heir of Historica and the Nocturnian Civil War. While he knew where it was, he only faintly knew about this Doriath place. It was an ancient elven kingdom under the rule of an elf named Brandon. While the Green Riders were not supposed to question the contents of the message they were delivering, Farlen could not help but wonder why Doriath was so important to the war. The Kingdom itself only had a force of a few hundred warriors, which could do little in a war where each forced numbered in the thousands. But maybe the elves had something that could help the war effort? Farlen, knowing he should not question the message for too long, closed his thoughts and tried to think about the view. Gods, the view was nice, he thought. Just then, his thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of two riders behind him. They were galloping, clearly in a rush. He looked behind for a few moments, to see they were wearing foreign looking armor, and were holding the curved swords. Drow, he thought in his mind. He couldn't outrun them, so he quickly stopped his horse, pulled out his sword and shield from his saddle, and shouted, "You will pass no further!" As expected, the Drow paid little attention to his words, and charged at him. However, through his training, he made quick work of both riders with a few swings of his sword. For a few moments, he stopped to catch his breath and ponder his thoughts. This is dangerous, he thought, and the signs of something bigger. He remembered the last time the Drow dared go on the main roads of Avalonia like that was the Avalonian Civil War. Feeling his mission just got more urgent, he then continued riding towards the nearest Green Rider's post for the night. Note: If anyone has a problem with the use of "Green Riders", I will remove that as soon as possible.
  16. Hassan M'badwe, High Judge of Khadira and bearer of the Mace of Watombe, current master of Khadira while Muakhah is off conducting delicate negotiations, personally hands a letter written by Muakhah to the Khadiran courier who will ride to Kaligem and the Desert King. The colors of the Desert King and Kaliphlim flutter in the breeze. The courier has a second steed with saddle bags and supplies for the long journey. Once the saddle bags are less weighty he will alternate mounts to avoid tiring one steed more. A groom feeds to horses a special oatcake prepared for horses with long distance journeys ahead of them. A selection of Khadiran soldiers are also present as Khadira girds itself for the coming struggle. The Khadiran Couriers are swift and skilled riders, trained to destroy their messages rather than let them fall into enemy hands. However, should this letter be captured you might read the following. To his Majesty, Ark,Mora Raa, Lord of the Desert and Master of Kaliphlim, Blessed of Mazadar and Great Hope of the Light. No doubt you know of the news sweeping the land, the Heir of Cedrica is found. This could mean that Historica has one King again. Perhaps this heir will prove worthy and we shall be honored to bend the knee, and perhaps not. Know now that as long as his Majesty Ark,Mora Raa holds true to his principles of Benevolence and Humility tempering Power and Strength and acts as a force for good in the eternal struggle with evil. Then Khadira shall hold its allegiance first and foremost to the true Lord of Kaliphlim, and perhaps in time, Historica. May you be a source of good deeds. May you tip the scales against evil. Your Humble Servant Muakhah of Khadira This was my first snotwork piece and I am pleased with how it came out. I will certainly try more in the future and have a few ideas. I will try and use Hassan M'badwe as a stand in sigfig until I get Muakhah back. Muakhah's character is a bit of a philosopher/prophet/ruler inspired by Zoroaster. Let me know what you think and any comments or criticisms. I think it is a bit flat thought the flags and weapons help slightly.
  17. I think, I don't need any story for the following pictures. The Title says it all. Maybe, the courier's decoy worked too well. He needs find some clothes, or atleast, some leaves, befor he arrives his destination. And.. a "18brickplus" picture:
  18. A Poor Choice Of Mount, Book II Challenge V Category A, Alliance Even with great haste, one can still choose his mount poorly, especially the insectoid-class monstrosities known most commonly as the Nocturian Antlion. These creatures while extremely fast and deadly are also extremely unsuited for riding. Welp, I put a lot of effort into this, so I REALLY hope that the judges will allow this entry given my peculiar and still unresolved situation. C&C is welcome.
  19. Challenge V, Category A, Alliance Side : A Courier in the air In the Enchanted Forest of Avalonia, the activity of the Drow Army increased those past months and Falahuas suffered more than ever the multiple raids they launched through all the Principality. Ther where no safe roads now and that was difficult to send a horse courier by those difficult times. The little group of The Spire minions this ambush team was composed knew perfectly those facts. They where scattered along the northern road of Falahuas waiting to intercept the courier their spies had announced. The road was recently re-claimed by This stupid Elf Princess called Walaehria but she never knew the Drow were still there and would claim soon the entire Principality for them ! How stupid she was ! Thought Arsthalas, the leader of the Drow troups. Even with the re-building of outposts and with the help of other Avalonian Counties like Drondil did, the Principality would never find peace and safety as long as him and his guys could pillage at will ! He had prepared every part of the ambush. He was ready ! His Drow troups had to be a bit scatered along the road from the both sides and be dissimulated within the lush forest that covers all this part of the hilly north of Falahuas. Then, when a rider would show, they would jumped out of their hidings in order to prevent him to turn back. The front group would slay down the horse and capture the rider in order to keep him alive and then torture him to obtain the crucial informations he had to deliver. Yes ! Arsthalas plan was perfect ! Well... It was... Until he discovered with fear the rider wasn't by horse ! He was a Griffon rider ! He hadn't the time to raise his weapon that the sharp spear point of the elf rider cut him in half while the fearsome half eagle/half lion beast used its dreadful claws to tear apart his best men ! In no time there were no Drow left alive along the road. Ethaihlin, the elf rider the Princess chose for that mission, was not a stupid courier, and he had guessed well ! The Drow knew his mission was to deliver a crucial information from the Capital ! They clearly had spies everywhere now. The Spire was stronger than ever ! But hopefully he trusted his mount and his bravery to discourage any attempt to stop him ! His message was cristal clear : "The Heir of Cedrica's Throne is back and all the people of the Alliance side should rise the arms and side with him to stop Ravaage ! The Black Spire can be defeated !" Falahuas will answer to the King's Heir call ! Hope you'll like my entry for this Challenge. Any comment or criticism is welcome. And I hope the tail of the Griffon is considered as a reasonable overhanging. If, not, tell me and I will rework my composition to make it fit in the 16*16 base. And here is a bonus picture of the Griffon rider alone :
  20. Built for category A of Challenge V, for the Alliance side. The path design was inspired by Thorsten Bonsch’s Orsinium. It was fun experimenting with the path here, albeit time consuming. A messenger gallops through the lands of Kaliphlin, spreading the word of the return of the true king of Historica! Perhaps 'gallops' is a poor choice of words though, as the camel seems content with a slow walk, much to the messenger's distress. More pictures on Brickbuilt Thanks for looking, C&C welcome
  21. Sadly, not every courier made it. One of them was captured by the soldiers of the Black Spire in Midgardia: -Spit it out! -the orc slaped the face of the courier. -tell me wat was yur destination? Where is da letter, Answer me! -Boss! I found da letter in his backpack! -the other red orc raised a letter in the air. -But i can't read it! -It dosen't matter anymore. Back to da camp! One of da pointy ears surely can read it. -And whats wit da prisoner Boss? -the orc looked to the courier, while he stacked the letter in his pants. -Spill his guts! And leave him for da crows. Serve as a warning toall who wish to fight againts da Black Spire!
  22. It seems something is brewing in the Darklands of Nocturnus. Click the picture for a link to the first prelude for the final challenge of Book II in the Guilds of Historica.

    The Sacred Grove

Nestled deep in the forests of Avalonia lies an Elven grove of great history and power. There has always been an Elven Protector who has watched over the Sacred Grove since the shrine to the White Hart was built there and the first saplings were planted by Dalaenus. The current protector is Lord Varis of the Rustling Leaves Clan. The Elves say that the White Harts grants gifts to it's followers in the sacred soil. This is where the saplings grew that became the trees of the Sacred Grove. With the onslaught of Victor Revolword's Elementals, the inhabitants of Brullum Harbor and the Crossroads have sought refuge in the Sacred Grove. Lord Varis has granted access to the grove, and rude walls have been erected for protection, and a crude shelter has been built to house the refugees. The Elves of the Rustling Leaves Clan have also taken up residence in the Grove to assist their neighbors. The Shrine to the White Hart lies nestled amongst the trees of the Grove which have grown up around it. The statues at the top of the shrines stair depict Veldanaline the Elven Sorceress and Adravus the Elvish Champion, heroes of the ancient Elves. The White Hart has caused saplings to sprout in the sacred soil of the shrine when the Elves have had need. Elven druids have been known to inhabit the shrine and worship in the Grove. The tower at the rear of the shrine serves as a vantage point of the surrounding lands and has rooms sufficient to house a very small garrision. The first thing built once the refugees started flooding in was a stout wooden palisade supported behind by earthen berms. Bowmen are stationed on the walls, and the space behind is crammed with weapons, foodstuffs and other supplies. Many of the villagers brought their livestock with them and these beasts have been cordoned off to protect the supplies and maintain some order within the walls of the compound. The villagers of Brullum Harbor and the Crossroads have made their residence on the north side of the shrine in a log shelter built into the ground for added protection. The villagers remain mostly in the shelter while the Avalonian soldiers maintains guard of the walls. The soldiers' common area is located on the roof of the shelter, and is built into a portion of the wooden palisade. A great fire is kept lit in the shelter to ward off the chills of Autumn and the cooler earthen walls. The shelter is quite crowded with villagers, and many are in low spirits in the close quarters. Grodvek has brought his wife and son with him from the crossroads. Luckily, most of their crops had already been harvested, but he still worries about looters or pests as his stores at home will need to last them through the winter ahead. Cecil B. Prosperous has found the current situation to be quite fortuitous as he had just been recently evicted from the mansion he had been squatting in. The captive audience should also give him a wealth of opportunities for conniving and perhaps even some petty larceny. Currently, he is trying to determine who he might pawn off his rotten fish on - although the odor is becoming quite overwhelming. Barl the pig farmer (although he only owns the one pig) is quite protective of his prize hog "Hog" and he keeps him close at hand for security and comfort - a pig makes a good pillow, as he is known to say. Up above, some of the soldiers have just finished their shift, and are sitting down to a hearty dinner. The Avalonian regiment has brought it own supplies wagons, and the soliders are accustomed to life on the move, so they are enjoying the relative quiet and permanence of their current plight. Lord Varis and the Elves of the Rustling Leaves Clan have made their encampment on the south side of the shrine, and have erected canopied tents beneath one of the great Oaks of the Grove. The Elves are more accustomed to a transient life, and are well prepared for a long engagement if necessary. Madame Sarveya, the ruler of Brullum Harbor, is currently discussing the general state of the camp's supplies with Lord Varis, as well as the preparations that are being made in case they must weather the winter here. Commander Aderian, Varis' Master of Blades, has just returned from a scouting mission, but there has been no sign of elemntals since their initial assault on the grove, which proved futile due to the magics of the shrine. One of the villagers has pilfered a haunch of meat from the soldiers and a bottle of mead from the Elves... perhaps not the wisest of thieves.... While the magics of the shrine have staved off the attacks by Victor's elementals, there's no telling what other insidious creatures he may summon or recruit. Both the Elves and the soliders feel that is better to fortify their position and sit tight for the time being.

    The Mystic Fountain

Hey guys Here's my challenge V entry... I hope you like it The Mystic Fountain It's a fountain, near the border of Avalonia, but still in Mitgardia. There was a legend which told: "Thousands of years ago, elves came to Mitgardia. They found this place at the fountain. There were special fruits, which they never have seen before, the fountain gave warm water and around it were the most beautiful plants on the whole world. These plants had a very bright green and white flower heads, which glinted like snow in the sun. They decided to settle there, they had everything they need. Water and food. They built their own village there and they sad, the water, which comes out of the fountain is given directly by God. They had a good live there, but one day..." Nah, nobody knows what happened, but most of the people think that the trolls came from the mountain. But that's not sure, it's just a legend. At least some ruins are left. Later, the mitgardians found this place and when they built their war camp near there, to be protected from the Elements. A detail shot of the fountain. And not to forget, the mitgardian war camp under construction. I tried to create some kind of contrast between the landscaping and the camp. More pictures can be found on flickr: LINK Constructive Critism is very apperciated. Soli Deo Gloria

    The Halls of Azdal

The Halls of Azdal is an ancient dwarven stronghold located in the southern mountains of Mitgardia. It was once home to thousands of dwarfs, but only a few remain who remember stories of thoes days... It is now solely a burial chamber for the Ancient Dwarven Kings Elkas the Wise and Rendar the Brave. Brego Adalstan and a group of Mitgardian refugees have taken sanctuary from the elementals summoned by Victor Revolword and erected a war camp in and around these forgotten halls. Overview: The door: A blacksmith, bridge, and practice area have been built above the Halls: The top can be taken off for a better view of the interior: A group of warriors take a well earned break as they eat, drink, and gamble: A Mage and his apprentice research the magical properties of the location: Brego and a few leaders plan the group's next move: The storeroom and kitchen. Even an assassin has taken refuge from the elemental onslaught: Statue of Elkas the Wise: Statue of Rendar the Brave: Thanks for looking!
