You don't even have to walk on your way back from the store. You only have to get out of chair once, and that's now. [MOC] Walking Chair by Bert.VR, on Flickr Or maybe it's just my latest alternate model... An entry for the Bricklink vehicle alternate competition, I wanted to do something different and worked with a non-vehicle set: 31019 Forest Animals. No wheels, no windscreens, no wings... it brings your creativity out. My main goal was to make it a pleasing model, and I think I succeded by using the curved bricks to their maximum and keeping the colors reasonably separated. The details aren't absent, with some engine greebles, controls, and an umbrella. And please forgive my silliness with this presentation. But the model ended up looking classy enough to inspire this Nespresso-esque style of 'advertizing'. I hope you enjoy my model. If you do, and if you want to build it yourself, visit Rebrickable. They also have a lot of alternate models. And don't forget to check out what amazing models my fellow-contestants came up with for the Bricklink MOC competition! Do more with your sets!

  14. After making the asymmetrical Blohm&Voss BV 141 aircraft from the set 60064 Arctic Supply Plane, I wanted to make some more of its kind. Once somebody tries to find a present day asymmetrical plane, surely finds the "Boomerang", which was designed by Burt Rutan. It is a one of a kind double engine airplane, and has a very stable flight even with one motor off. In case you have never seen it, you can find a pic HERE. As this one has a very curvy shape, it was totally impossible to "copy" it from the set 60064, but I still wanted to build something similar. Burt Rutan Boomerang (60064 alternate) by Plastic.Ati, on Flickr As normally, I wanted to catch some important point from the design. The nose of the main body was very hard to plan as the cockpits themselves were too big and ugly for a "base". Fortunately I found a way to fix the window of the flat cockpit only, which gave me a chance to build a better form. Burt Rutan Boomerang (60064 alternate) by Plastic.Ati, on Flickr As you can see, I could make the thing in minifig scale, which was "necessary" for me. Burt Rutan Boomerang (60064 alternate) by Plastic.Ati, on Flickr The wings are bent forward (see the name: boomerang) and upwards too. I wanted to make it so much that I spent quite a time with just the wings, building and dismantling the connection to the body infinite times. Burt Rutan Boomerang (60064 alternate) by Plastic.Ati, on Flickr I haven't found a way to make wheels for a landed version, and I even run out of elements for making the middle piece of the wings correctly, and it was problematic from an other point of view too. I wanted to make it more or less similar to the original, and even stable enough for making the model swooshable. I spent 2 more hours on the stabilisation, and finally I could make the connection between the bodies hard enough, so now the model won't break apart when somebody plays with it. Burt Rutan Boomerang (60064 alternate) by Plastic.Ati, on Flickr I know, the middle wing is ugly, but now I have no better idea. In case I find a nicer way to build it, I will update the post. C&C are welcome. The instructions will be ready on the next week, and whenever it is accessable on Rebrickable, I will put the link here. If you missed my earlier alternates for this set, you can find them below:
  15. Hi Everyone! This is the beginning of a new year so I finally gained some time to make my first posts. As I like making alternate builds for nearly every set I open, the "hard-to-find" piece of the Arctic series from year 2014 was no exception. I liked the big twin-boom airplane a lot so I wanted to make some more of this kind. I wanted to build an easy one first, so I have chosen the Fokker F.25 Promotor, because of its pusher configuration. It's minifig compatible, quite swooshable, but the propeller needs some attention as the one-stud connection is less stable. Fokker F.25 Promotor (60064 alternate) by Plastic.Ati, on Flickr I've tried to make a wheeled version too, but without a useable wheel it wasn't too easy... Fokker F.25 Promotor (60064 alternate) by Plastic.Ati, on Flickr Fokker F.25 Promotor (60064 alternate) by Plastic.Ati, on Flickr For those who want more: go to my Rebrickable page (links to more pics, and instuctions) For those who want to check the original: click HERE Hope you will have a very nice and prosperous year in 2015! Below you can check my other alternates for this set:
  16. Hello guys! I wanted to introduce my latest creation. A MOC made exclusively with the pieces of the set 8110. It has various functions, such as motorized winch, motorized hood, fake 4 cylinder in-line engine, suspension, 4-wheel drive with center differential, gearbox with two-speed, steering wheel connected to the steering and opening doors. The model is ready to IR power function: using a remote control, receiver, XL-motor, M-motor and a switch you can drive it. Here some pics The lever near the left-seat change the speed from low to high. The lever near the right-seat change the functions between winch and hood. Under the hood Under the chassis View from the ground to the fake motor. Hope You like it! 19. Eurobricks and Rebrickable were challenged by LEGO to make alternate models for current year city sets. The builds had to only use the pieces in available in the official LEGO model, be made in LDD, digitized, tested in real brick and be a model a 7-10 year old could build!! I received set 60033 "Arctic Ice Crawler". It's a cute, nostalgia-inducing, but sadly smallish truck. With only 113 parts, some of them only connecting in one way, making alternate models out of this one really was a challenge. Luckily there were a good deal of brackets and functional elements available, so building nice playsets still was possible and fun. I hope you enjoy them and maybe rediscover how fun it is to build alternate models! Here are my two alternate models: "Bulldozer" [MOC] Bulldozer - 60033 alternate model by Bert.VR, on Flickr You can find the LDD model and building instructions there on Rebrickable. "Snowplow" [MOC] Snowplow - 60033 alternate model by Bert.VR, on Flickr [MOC] Snowplow - 60033 alternate model by Bert.VR, on Flickr LDD model and building instructions are available on Rebrickable as well I hope you like it, and stay creative with those lovely chunks of plastic!
  20. With the release of the Spider-Trike vs. Electro, many fans have been overwhelmed to see a minifigure of Electro. However the main build in the set has garnered a substantial amount of negative publicity. So, for those of us who do not plan to build the set once we get it, what would you say would be a good alternate build for the set? You may use up to 2 copies of the set (the vehicle alone should not cost a lot) and perhaps use a couple of other parts (nothing too rare please) Hope to see some great builds! -Godtshep.
  21. Hello! I noticed that with the pieces of the set 42008 is almost possible to build the fantastic 8052 container truck. After some changes here is the final result. I also added the tilting of the cab and some aesthetic side. I hope you like it! See you soon with an "original" c-model;)
  22. With the exception of the 16x32 base plate this model is built using only the parts available in the 10211 Grand Emporium kit. When I set out to build this the only thing I was trying to do is avoid having the facade look like the donor kit. It came out much better than I expected given I only had so many pieces to work with. More pictures of better quality at http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/377737 and information about instructions at http://www.AlteredBricks.com Thanks for looking.
  23. [MOC] Jedi Starfighter by Bert.VR, on Flickr Hey, I think I've seen those pieces before... And you're right. This Jedi Starfighter is another alternate build of Lego's 75003 A-wing, just like my Slave I. Once again, all the pieces come from that one set. At least, this time the colors actually make sense... I think this alternate building is growing on me. I can only enter one MOC in the Rebrickable alternate build contest, but I can still have fun and promote it ! So I was thinking about another build. A republic gunship turned out too complex and ended in one terrrrrible looking and undoubtely filmsy build . I did, however, took some techniques with me for this starfighter. I own both the Slave I and Obi-Wan's starfighter, and while building my previous entry, I noticed that a lot of pieces where in common with that starfighter. Seeing another Starfighter MOC here inspired me to take the final step. And this is what came out. [MOC] Jedi Starfighter by Bert.VR, on Flickr The starfighter features an opening cockipt (with place for a minifig like Obi-Wan, and with place for a coffee mug of course) and landing gear. It includes motors and realistically angled wings. Making the sharp nose was the greatest challenge, but some SNOT saved me in the end. The color scheme ended up looking a tiny bit like Obi-Wan's starfighter, so that's a good thing. Slave I and Jedi Starfighter by Bert.VR, on Flickr So what do you have to remember from this adventure? Buy two A-wings, and you get an opportunity to recreate that chase sequence from Episode Two once again. To do so, check out the Rebrickable page (I will post a link once it gets approved) for a digital model and a partlist. You'll find pdf instructions here. Just like the old days. A set is never one set!
  24. Hi This is my entry for Rebrickable alternate contest. Model is alternate for set 42004. I do not own that set so the rims on engines are black instead of yellow. All other parts colors are correct. Assault helicopter features: Rotating main rotor (via gear under the fuselage) 2 turbo-jet engines for extreme speed 1 heavy cannon on the front 2 SS 10 anti-tank missiles on sides of the fuselage Seat for pilot two seats in cabin for passengers/shooters Building instructions here. Photos: Hi-quality photos by Jim, later this page, here. LDD screenshot: Hope you like it. LDD-file here
  25. [MOC] Slave I - flyby by Bert.VR, on Flickr Well, that Slave I has some weird colors! Not exactly minifig scale, is it? And that isn't even Boba Fett in the cockpit... What is going on here? Yes, I can read minds . But don't the colors and the parts remind you of a certain LEGO set? The A-wing (75003) perhaps? Indeed, this Slave I is an alternate build of that set. Do you remember that good old days, when Star Wars sets came with alternate models (like the y-wing and tie advanced: you could build tons of things, ranging from a battering ram to a lightsaber! But I'm digressing.) That's right, all 99 pieces come from the A-wing set. It was quite a hard build. I used up every single plate in the process, and getting some good SNOT done for the 'nose'-area was quite tricky without any real SNOT bricks. But hey, I think I managed quite well. I was even able to include some play features. Besides details like the guns, some details on the wings and featured motors, the cockpit opens, a minifig can be fitted inside (and rejoice: even Boba can fit in with his helmet and jetpack! ), and the wings can be tilted for flight and landing. It lays perfectly flat and stable once landed, and it swooshes quite well, I suppose. Not too bad for just an alternate build, I would say... [MOC] Slave I - landing position by Bert.VR, on Flickr. This model was built for the December alternate build contest at Rebrickable. Sign up and have some fun with alternate builds for yourself. It's genuine Lego. You buy a set, build it within half an hour, destroy it after fiftheen minutes of playing, and start building something completely different with just those few bricks. It's delightful . I certainly got hooked. Lots of ideas are boiling in my head. How about a tiny republic gunship...? Thanks for watching. I hope you've enjoyed it. One more picture of the back can be found at my Flickr account. And in the unlikely case you're interested in building this model, instructions (in the form of the digital model) are available at Rebrickable. If you don't have the A-wing, you'll find a handy part-list as well. And if you aren't into digital models, here's a pdf with the generated building instructions. Read them very carefully, cause they're quite obscure at some points. I leave you with a final picture: [MOC] Slave I - Give me back my coffee! by Bert.VR, on Flickr So that's why Boba Fett chases Han Solo... For the people into SoNE: When we rode away in the highjacked Sandcrawler, I finally got some rest. I wandered around the vessel, and found myself intrigued with all those parts of junk. What wonderful things could be built with those parts! My pilot's heart began imagining all kinds of different ships. I don't remember if I really saw it, or if I just imagined it. But I have a clear memory of what looked like a Slave I. I got a little scared, but very soon saw it was not Fett's ship. One of those rebels had built it with the remains of his A-wing! Some people can do great things with part piles, I thought to myself, even rebels... I don't want this to be judged however, since it's already an entry in the Rebrickable contest. But I found it funny to build with even fewer parts this time, so I thought I'd share this with you as an aside.
