  1. I made this MOC from the Friends Bakery and Smoothie Bar sets. I never have enough flat pieces to make a single coloured floor. I know it's not as good as the other stuff you guys make but I kind of like this one.
  2. Hi All, Here's my 3 x Modular combo review of the Grand Emporium, Pet Shop and Parisian Restaurant. As I was doing some re-organizing of our LEGO I decided to do an overview of these 3 really nice sets. The full overview with detailed images here http://www.boxtoy.co...s-GE-PS-PR.html I really enjoyed looking back at these sets along with taking the pictures so I hope everyone enjoys it. Do feel free to comment and feedback. Tobysan

    Modular Hardware Store

The new DO set coming got me fired up to try and do another modular so I present my latest MOC. The drawers behind the counter do open and you can place small items in them. This is going to go on the left of the DO when I get it.....one day, the other side might be the PR.....not sure, cash is a problem sometimes. Keep watching !

    Kendallshire City

This is my city layout that I presented for the first time at Bricktober - Perth 2014. I was the first time I was able to assemble the entire layout in one place and run a train around it. Hope you enjoy. 5. Hello to everyone. I'm desperately looking for pictures of the rear of the famous Painted Ladies in Alamo Square. I'm trying to make them as modular buildings, but even if I bought some books I've never found any pictures of the rear. What lies there? Where no one has eventually been? Does anyone has some pictures or can take some pictures of the rear? Thank you in advance.
  6. Hi All, Just sharing a modification of the LEGO Bike Shop & Cafรฉ set. My kid liked the original advanced build of the set but somehow it was a little too cramped even when opened up. We additionally tried the easy and medium builds to see how it felt but somehow it still lacked room to play. So we decided to revisit the whole concept of the Bike Shop & Cafรฉ and modularize it. The concept of the modification is to merge the Bike shop and Cafรฉ as one establishment allowing us to make a 2nd floor loft apartment, which meant more space across the board. We reused alot of the interior pieces from the original set which were really nice. We kept it to two floors to keep it relatively small, which gave us an opportunity to make a nice end lot to place with other modulars. Unfortunately we couldn't stick to just the original pieces so we had to use various additional pieces we had, a 32x32 baseplate and alot of 2x2 tiles for the pavement. My kid enjoys it and somehow prefers the removable floors vs the open-up approach. As there's alot more detail in this build and I can't put up too many images you can check it out here. http://www.boxtoy.co...isited-moc.html Hope you guys like it.

    [MOC] Little Modulars

Hi everyone! I usually don't post any creations here but my wife thinks that I should share this... so here it is! Some time ago I tried to reduce the modulars in an attempt to have the space and money to build them in real bricks, since I've missed the opportunity to get the real ones (Dark Age). This is the first one with a personal touch. You can see more pictures here. The blue columns near the door are supposed to be the original ones, but for some reason I couldn't put them on LDD. I've build them to fit a 16x16 plate, the sidewalk is supposed to fit on the road plates. They are open back for easier access to the interior. I didn't finished them all, soon I will post the Green Grocer, Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium. Edit 01 Here is the Green Grocer: You can see more pictures here.
  8. Hi all Here's some pics of the lastest addition to my Brickston high street, a music shop an underground station like the ones seen around London. Let me know what you think Can I interest you in a guitar sir? No. How about a piano or a drum kit? Nice apartment. Must be some cash lying around.... oh no the cops are on to me!! Just chilling in my rooftop Jacuzzi Hope you enjoyed. Check out my flickr for more photos (I'll try and take some better ones in the next few days) or check out my first moc, the florist (sorry shameless plug!!)

    [MOC] Forgotten Ruins

This is a MOC that was created to go with big fantasy diorama "Studogrod", that was displayed in Warsaw on Polish LUG LugPOL exhibition. I wanted to create some ruins that has been taken over by a tree as time went by. I spent some time creating some instructions for it as well - you can find them on Rebrickable under this link. All photos of this MOC can be found here. If you happen to build this MOC, please let me know your thought about the building process and your general impressions in the comments section. And here goes the MOC - a brave knight explores the forgotten ruins when suddenly he encounters an unexpected being... :)
  10. This model was the third place winner in Swebricks LEGO competition "The city we built". Here is (the badly translated) description I had for my model: "Businesses had been bad for Ragge Runarson in the increasingly desolate little town. Because of the current recession, sales had fallen drastically and all of his employees had to quit. It was with mixed feelings that he was standing at the window of the office building and looking out over his lifework. He remembers how he so happily rode to work every morning on his red bicycle. And he remembers the now broken cement mixer which he would use to finish cementing the walkway to the white cottage. Soon, however, there would come a person who was interested in buying the building, so then Ragge could start all over again!"
  11. Ok, so I finally have some more photos to upload, so here are my latest (and first) moc modular buildings. IMG_0158 by nmendat, on Flickr the Yellow store. I was thinking maybe a music store could go into the bottom, but I'd need some instruments first :/ Also some lettering would make it much better, but I'm not sure what word could fit into the space directly above the door. IMG_0208 by nmendat, on Flickr the Blue Townhouse. I saw some other great modulars with bay windows posted on this forum, and I love the elegant look it gives. Blue is my favorite color, but alas, I don't have nearly enough of it, so I made do with the stripes. The red roof also gives the building a patriotic feel. Neither building has that great of an interior as I have depleted my resources just building the exterior. Please forgive the mess in the background as I currently don't have room for my legos at my own place and as of now they are sitting in my parent's house on the floor (Hopefully by Christmas I will have them moved back to my place).

  14. I fell in love with canal houses since the first day of my Amsterdam trip this may, and started designing it next morning after return. I did my best to keep all the distinctive features of a canal house. First off all, you can notice that the canal houses are narrow and deep. They were designed so to minimize taxes, which, at that time, depended on the width of facade. Amsterdam is situated on a swamp land, therefore facades were built of light bricks with large windows to reduce the weight. Another interesting feature with windows is that they become shorter from ground floor to the top. This makes an illusion that building is higher than it actually is. Also note some kind of a plaque just above the door. Three hundred years ago, only small percent of people could read, and plaques helped to identify name or profession of the owner. Because canal houses were built narrow, staircases were also narrow, making it a big problem to take furniture and goods up. To solve the problem hooks were placed on the top of the house, allowing to lift what you need and pass it through the window. Red bike. Thanks to many factors, like flat terrain, narrow streets and desire to decrease car-accident deaths Amsterdam became one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world. Nowadays there are more than 400 km of bike paths and 1 200 000 bicycles (even more than citizens). About 100 000 of them are stolen each year, and therefore our bike is securely locked. Pls support this canal house on Lego Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/83275 (You could also find there story behind the building and more pics, in higher quality)

    [MOC] Beauty Shop & Apartment

This is our small suburban beauty shop. The ground floor is heavily based on the Lego Friends set with a new apartment and roof added above. Hope you like it. I'd love to hear your comments. Mike

    [MOC] Green Dragon Pub

Since I finally got around to finishing this I thought I would share. The build was actually done two years ago but I never got around to doing the custom pub sign. I finally used my water-slide decal kit in my printer and I think it turned out great. (same excuse for my Beachburger restaurant).

    WIP Elite Police Station

Hi everyone, I've been steadily working on getting all the parts for my other Police Modular design. Once I do I will post photos. However in what spare time I've had the past few weeks I've been designing this. My intention was to house the Swat van from the Museum Break-in (60008) and the Humvee from The High Speed Chase (60007). Originally I wanted wooden doors on the garage but the doors would not have enough clearance to open and close properly. I spent a good week on and off trying to figure out how to do it. In the end I simply removed them and produced a much better design. The bay's are large enough to house the Elite Police vehicles. The building itself is based on partly Parisian architecture and a Jewish synagogue in central London. I've tried to be consistent with my part selections and the colouring is available. I have to finish off the third floor and roof. It will have a chateau-esc roof, like one sees in Paris. Originally I thought to do the second floor in either lime green or olive and have columns, but the tan and dark orange combination looks better with vaulted windows. I am really trying to combine both old and new architecture to give it an old world feel while being modified for modern day uses. On the first floor there is a security desk and entrance on the left side while the right has a staircase and machinist shop. The second floor was to house some holding cells for prisoners and some desks. I haven't quite decided everything that the building will house but I did want a communications centre. Perhaps on the third floor? In any case, I am fairly pleased with the direction my design has been going. Would love to hear other people's thoughts.

[MOC] Grand Emporium Of Hats - Interior

Hi everyone, I've not been on the forum for a couple of months due to other commitments but I thought I'd show you what I've been building throughout the summer. The video below covers the full interior I've added to the modular Grand Emporium set. I have turned it into a hat shop with different floors for different styles of hat. On the top floor is a small cafe and toilet facilities. Hope you like the video. I'd love to hear your comments. Mike

Jewelry Store, Pizzeria, and Bricklyn Bike

Hello all! I'll admit that I have been missing in action lately. I ended up taking a little bit of a hiatus from all things Lego for a bit longer than was originally planned, but am pleased to say that I am back again with not one, not two, but three new modulars (well, more like two and a half, as you will soon see). I needed something fairly simple to ease back into things, and like always things grew more ambitious as time progresses. I saw 31026 Bike Shop in the Lego Store and knew it had a ton of potential to convert into a modular, as several posters here have also done. I loved the idea of doing a bike shop (it has been on my list of buildings to make for a while), but I didn't think either building stylistically looked right for a bike shop so I ended up doing a new 16-wide that was not based on the set in any way, shape or form. Enough talk - here they are. This is actually the seventh time I have used an official non-modular set as a starting point for a modular MOC, but I think this is the most literal I have been in terms of keeping the details. I liked the original and felt very little needed to be done to make them fit with the official series. The building on the left is a jewelry store while the one on the right is a pizzeria. Apartments are above both shops. I was drawn to the idea of keeping them two buildings with a connector in-between them. This makes each building 14-wide rather than the usual 16-wide, which I felt was actually easier to design facades for (16 studs is an awkward number to space out windows in my experience). To get to the apartment level, you walk through the passageway and take a set of stairs up. Here is the ground floor of the jewelry store. To some, the interiors will look awfully familiar - I took them from my Winter Village Jewelry Store I did for a contest on this site (I think I came in 4th or 5th). I cannibalized some other parts of that set elsewhere, but the interiors were lifted almost as-is and fit in the new space very well. Here is the apartment above the jewelry store. I'll admit to losing some steam with designing these, plus I wanted to try and use parts I had as much as possible. Nothing thrilling, although I do like my little treadmill. Moving on to the pizzeria. This is based on the little hole-in-the-wall places you'll find all over New York City. In fact, this is a mirror image of my old place in Brooklyn (I miss you Ginos!). There is a standard NY-style pizza oven as well as a fridge with soda and a little place to sit. I still need to invest in a couple of the pizza guy minifigures from the latest series to replace the worker and the blank pizza boxes. Above, more apartments. Again, I think I am a little tired of making furniture, so not my best work. And now, finally, the bike shop. I wanted something more industrial looking, and early on decided to go with a large, centered window. It's a very simple facade, but I think it gets across the look I wanted. The back is quite plain, as a building like this should be. I almost never use primary colors in my builds, but I thought a couple stripes of red worked here as you often see old buildings repurposed over the years and adding a splash of color is common. Inside, the first floor has helmets, skateboards, and a little space where workers can do repairs. Upstairs are more bikes, of course. If you want to have something with a little more muscle than your own legs, go up one more floor to find the scooters and motorcycles. And here they are together. Despite being known more for my larger buildings (my diner/theater and courthouse), I've now done six 16-wides. Here they all are together, plus the official sets. More photos in my flickr account in my signature, but I can't imagine anyone needing more after that ! Thanks for looking, and please ask questions if you have any.
  21. Hi. Thought I'd shove up my very first MOC / MOD. It's heavily influenced by the Daily Bugle and I did it as an exercise to see if I was capable of performing the strange mathematics / engineering / voodoo necessary to wrangle a modular out of an existing set. I chose to do a news building first as I have a (hardly updated) blog that mirrors the 'LEGO NEWS' 2x2 tile in terms of design, so making the office in which the blog is written added to the fun. Inside is a bit sparse to be frank - the bottom floor is supposed to be a chilled, corporate looking, swish lobby in which members of the public can grab a coffee and be interviewed for the paper. A flight of stairs leads to the white walled workhouse, in which the poorly paid staff slave away. Overlooking this is a mezzanine level, where the editor in chief gets to bark at his staff from above. A ladder leads from there onto the split level roof, just in case the place bursts into flames or whatnot! (the place is, after all, a hotbed of activity). I did have a better picture of the front of the building but the windows were filthy... lol I'll find some better photos if there's any interest in the project. Overall, it was great fun to do and I'm now hooked on making modulars. PS - hope I've got the posting of images correct in terms of netiquette here... 22. This Modular Ghostbusters Headquarters has been sized to fit in with the LEGO Modular Series. (Developed for LEGO Ideas by OGELSBOB (formerly known as "LEGODT") Only 16-studs wide. Thanks to Sergio512 for the wonderful design of the LEGO Ideas submission: Ghostbusters HQ. I copied some of the build techniques and design elements of the Sergio512 design to inspire the creation of this modular-sized Ghostbusters Headquarters. The garage door facade is made of dark brown 1x4 tiles that cover 1x5x8.5 stockade doors. In order to fit the Ecto-1 Cadillac inside the building with inward swinging doors, I had to extend the depth of the standard 32 stud baseplate by 16 studs. This creation is 16 studs by 48 studs. You can see from the photos that this creation fits in nicely with modular-proportioned buildings. The interior features a pod for Dr.Egon, Dr. Peter, Dr. Raymond & Winston Zeddemore to perform their duties and to relax with some snacks. Little do they know that above their secure pod, Slimer, a ghastly apparition, is about to invade their inner sanctum. What does everyone think about the playability of this MOC? Please support on LEGO Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/79601
  23. Hi everyone, in it's original state, the Simpsons house (71006) doesn't fit well with the modular buildings, but I still wanted to put it in my town, so I modified it accordingly, keeping the main features like the main windows, the studded brown roof, and the interior. And making it not too fancy... Also I added a shop for funny masks, i.e. the odd-shaped Simpsons figure heads: On the street in front of the shop: One guy trying on a Homer mask, and the mask manufacturer's salesman, just leaving the shop, always wears a Ned mask, scaring the guy in the front. Looking through the window, we see Matt, the owner of the shop, in the middle behind the counter: The workman in the front is removing damaged parts from the wall in order to repair it later - or in other words: I couldn't find a second dark tan 2x1x3 slope brick. :) Inside: Lots of masks (and sone full costumes) on offer: The interior of the upper floors is almost exactly like in the original set: I just added the missing fridge and shortened the couch so it doesn't block the entrance under the stairs. (And forgot the kitchen chairs in the photo.) Back side: ยป Flickr album Hope you like it...

MOC: Noodle Shop & Downtown Museum

Noodle Shop and Downtown Museum As my Oriental district expands in my city I decided I need to build a Noodle Shop, but a 32-wide version seemed to be too large and what I really wanted was a narrow hole-in-the-wall kind of place that looked like it had been there forever so to fill in the rest of the baseplate I added a Downtown Museum. Here's a shot of the facade. And a close up of the sign - complete with two chop sticks and a scrumptious piece of Tofu (Yummy!) There are wall mounted cooking utensils and pots, a single stove, sink, fridge and food containers together with standing tables along both walls. In the Museum there is an eclectic mix of artifacts from a number of eras and Lego themes. And one of the display cabinet contains an "Evolution of the Hand" exhibit One final interior shot Thanks for reading! Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome!
