    PTC - eurotrash/Oirad 72

[pid][/pid] 245D Team eurotrash/Oirad 72 are proud to present their combined ex-pat Brit/Italian entry to the Pirate Teamwork Competition. We decided to go for a set-based approach - something that Lego could produce, sets with playability and strength and we agreed to update the classic Pirate feel. So, strap your Parrot to your shoulder, shiver your timbers and please enjoy our contributions - The Slippery Eel Tavern and Fort Degas. The Slippery Eel Tavern by Oirad 72 This notorious Tavern is set on a busy Jetty. It's a den of thieves and cutthroats and any Redcoat that wanders down here better be on the lookout. The set comes complete with a rowboat, cargo-crane and Mermaid. Inside the Tavern there's a fully equipped bar area, steps up to the second floor storage room and a doorway through to the upper deck. But it looks like a junior Redcoat is questioning the Innkeeper "What do you know about smuggling?", he's asking. But the Innkeeper is afraid and has pulled the pin, the trapdoor opens and the Redcoat tumbles into the mouth of the waiting crocodile! The upper deck and crane with some very effective textures and colors on the wall. The locating Technic pins that enable the two sets to be combined. Fort Degas by eurotrash This set comes complete with a Seagull stolen from the Parisian Restaurant. It attached to the Tavern via the Technic pins in the Jetty and hidden in the rock. It has open backed access to the Entrance Room, Hall, Dungeon and Tower. And the roof comes off for additional access. "This Rock wall is interesting. I wonder what's behind here" "Get in the Dungeon you Pirate scum" "But don't worry - I'll set you free!" Here's a short youtube video showing the mechanics for opening the Treasure cave and removing the Dungeon wall. Thanks for reading. We hope you enjoyed our entry! eurotrash/ Oirad 72

    Cheers and greetings from USA

Greetings to all! I'm fairly new to this site and these forums, and only started commenting in earnest about 4 months or so ago, after a period of more than a year lurking. First off, Eurobricks is my "go-to" site for LEGO news and information - what a fantastic resource! I admire and appreciate all who take their time to post thoughts, instructions, solutions, creations, etc. It is all enormously inspiring. A couple of things about me... 1) I got out of my "Dark Ages" around the time of the birth of my daughter in 2009. My first exposure to nouveau-LEGO was the release of the Emerald Night, which I saw in the windows of my local LEGO store. That train just caught my eye, and I couldn't stop thinking about it, I couldn't get that damned thing out of my head. A gracious mother-in-law, who assumed I had gone temporarily insane with the prospect of being a first-time dad, bought it jointly with my wife for my Christmas gift. The Emerald Night has a solid hold on my #2 spot for "Best LEGO set ever" (#1 remains, and always will remain, the Black Seas Barracuda which I got for Christmas when I was 6). 2) I received the Black Seas Barracuda for Christmas in 1989. I got my Emerald Night in 2009, 20 years later. 3) In no particular order - my favorite themes are/have been: Town, Train, Pirates, Creator "Expert" (modulars) and the Collectible Minifigure series. 4) I've also made recent room for Alien Conquest (RIP), The LEGO Movie, and Friends for my daughter. 5) I am 30 yrs old and live in Portland, OR - USA. 6) In addition to LEGO, my hobbies include: cooking, illustration, all things comics and graphic novels, and movies. I'm a budding audiophile and woodworking enthusiast. A couple of things I love about the LEGO hobby: -It gives me time to bond with my kids. It's fun to share something we can all relate to and for different reasons/motives. -The quality of the higher-end sets just boggles my mind. -The increased color pallet over the past few years -It may seem odd to say so, but I really like the direction of graphics team - the minifigures have so much personality and quality of printing has just gotten better and better -Correlations to my own job. Substitute "plastic injected molds" for "sand-casted steel," and the companies I've worked for professionally are very similar to LEGO (down to the manufacturing processes, supply chains, etc.) In fact, we use LEGO Adult education products for some of our internal training courses. Things I don't like about the LEGO hobby and wish would change: -Stickers. Boo. -Poorer quality manufacturing from overseas sources -Designs that got pumped into market way too fast. I almost feel like LEGO is overheating a bit these days and almost needs to scale back number of themes or new products to market. Too many are half-baked (and don't give me the "target market" argument - a poorly-thought out set design is a poorly-thought out set design, be it geared to the 5-12 age group or the 12-16 age group) -Pricing - especially for 2014. -Recent changes to exclusives discount policies (booo!)
  3. Just got some new Torsos printed. Let´s start with something rather classic. I never liked the new Redcoats. They have some more details but not the säxappeal of the 90´s Redcoats. Only Downside on the Classic Figs is the white Torso and no backprinting. So I recreated the Classic Imperial Torso using Inkscape and send it to my "local" Steindrucker (german for Brick Printer). And this is what came out. Left Sand-Blue-Coat, middle Blue-Coat and right Red-Coat. All three come with rather simple but classic looking backprinting. Now to something designwise more modern. This time I tried to recreate one of my older decals (take a look at the castle Torso Library) that was based on Eomer´s TorsoDesign. There´s no heraldic stuff on them to keep them as flexible in usage as possible. Those figs would look incredibly better if I had dark blueish grey arms at hand. (arms at hand...muhahahaha) This time I tried to use a PNG instead of a vector grafic. This turne out to be a less good idea since the "semi transparency" on the lines didn´t come out as I thoughed they would. I guess I learned something new... Otherwhise the print quality is awesome. Last but not least I´d like to show what Ninjago would look like if the first 4 core members would be girls and live in Space. The design is based of my Black Widdow and altered to fit Space-Themes. They work pretty well with my Space-Troopers that I showed somewhen earlier in another thread. Again there´s front and back printing. The back is less detailed but I´d rather look them at the boo...cough...cough...ehrm in the eyes. If you like them, please leave a comment. If not, please feel free to suggest me some optimizations. Thanks for you time.

    Mortar Barge Artillery

Hello! Here is my first Eurobricks MOC post, It is a mortar barge, used during various conflicts by all sides during the 17th, and 18th centuries (possibly earlier and after) to defend ports and harbours. It could be towed by a larger ship, as it cannot move on its own, or it could be positioned and anchored for effective defence. The ship consisted of a simple flat top barge, usually wooden, with a 36inch mortar, additional shot, powder, and other items necessary for its operation. It also had a crew (usually of about three) to operate it. I have decided to recreate it, building off of the "Kraken Attacken" Lego set (What a strange name XD) It is simple, but features some planks for support, with the mortar in the interior, and enough firepower to stop a large vessel, or siege a city! Below are a few photos of the vessel, crew and mortar design! http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/
  5. [pid][/pid] Hello everyone, Isn't it wonderful to suddenly be able to reminisce the excellent LEGO Pirates II series since it was first released in 2009. We have also gotten some good Pirate sets along the way through the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean. And now, we see the latest minifigure pack in pre-packed condition out of the blue in a matter of recent days. I am very pleased to be able to pick this pack up at the LEGOLAND Malaysia, located at the 'Big Shop'. Although the price is on the high side, but I am very pleased to get it and take a better look for myself if it is indeed worth the money to acquire it. Name: 850839 Pirate minifigure pack Theme: LEGO System / Pirates Year: 2013 Pieces: 39 Minifigs: 4 minifigures Price: USD N.A, GBP N.A, EURO N.A, SGD $23.90, RM 59.90 Resources: Brickset, BrickLink An original packing image of the 850839 Pirate minifigure pack Back view of the original packing image of the 850839 Pirate minifigure pack Look here, mates! We have more new Pirate crew for recruiting Wow, this packing looks like any other regular typical battle pack which we have seen in the medieval castle, city, space, Halloween themes, etc, over recent years. It is a pleasant surprise to see this minifigure pack to appear in the market but I personally find it more of a re-hash of minifigure pack that just will like to rid of the extra parts in the warehouse, or you could really simply put it as a hint or a teaser of a new Pirates III theme in the near future. No one can be certain of the intentions of this mysterious minifigure pack except TLG planning. Perhaps, time will tell us soon. The content of the sealed box Within the sealed box, it comes with one small package, four pre-assembled minifigures with accessories and an instruction manual to build up the little scene. I will also like to mention that this package is built in these following countries and unfortunately the place that the package is produced from, is also notorious from the poorly made minifigure types with the marked symbol below the armpit. It is unfortunate even though the quality has slightly improved but you could see and feel visible differences. To me, that is considered a huge disappointment to a certain extent. It is not quite exact the same quality like the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series, but maybe I am being too paranoid and sceptical due to early misconceptions. Front - Instruction Manual Back - Instruction Manual Building parts These are the parts from the small little package that will be used to build up the tiny little hide out for the Pirates to hide themselves from impending threat or to camouflage their treasure chest. It is definitely not very complicated to begin with. Useful parts and accessories In this package, these are some of the very useful parts and accessories that is definitely welcoming for any minifigures context. Weaponries such as the scimitar and flintlock pistol are good choice of weapons even though there is no typical traditional cutlasses for the pirates. I am not complaining since I got plentiful of such weapons. The crab and parrot are also excellent addition to the total count of animals inventories. Not to forget that, printed tiles like the new 2x2 map tile which I am very sure that I have not seen it before, and the printed ship bottle from the Pirates of the Caribbean. Lastly, the chicken drum stick and barrel are equally useful for any play settings, not restricting to Pirates. Treasure chest with chrome gold I am very pleased that the treasure chest came with the right content as reflected on the packaging. To me, this is a plus point as I had very bad experience from my 4181 Isla De Muerta review. I will be very upset if I have gotten the pearl gold colour instead of the chrome gold. I am glad this has been successfully resolved. The Pirates minifigures This pack come with a Pirate Captain and I am not deeply mistaken about it, two male henchmen and a female Pirate. Most of the parts in there are pretty much re-hash with little room for new creativity and imagination. Even though they have tried to shuffle in with a couple of new faces but it does not really hold much water as well and I find it weak in settings of the choice of minifigures too. Good news for some, there are back printing for all of the four minifigures who love a detail for minifigures. Do you like this minifigure pack? To conclude, I am not pretty satisfied with this new Pirate minifigure pack. It made up of too many re-hashes and the quality is not too desirable to my standard. The pricing is steep and the money probably warrant you to get a better LEGO playset instead. The good point in this pack is the useful building elements, parts and accessories which is decent and good selection, but unfortunately the quantity is low for the good stuff. In the end, I most likely bought this minifigure pack on impulse and I really want to find out for myself if the gold bar is indeed chrome. I am glad that TLG didn't mislead me to obtain a pearl gold bar instead. All in all, I only recommend you to get this minifigure pack if you are truly wanting to complete the LEGO Pirate theme or a true hardcore LEGO Pirates fan. Summary review Playability: 3/10 (Limited playability and probably depend a lot more on the integration of your own Pirates theme.) Design: 5/10 (Design is pretty simple and the selling point is probably the good selection of parts and accessories) Price: 3/10 (Price is expensive to my taste and not quite worth the money to acquire it with the extreme low parts to price ratio.) Overall: 3.7/10 (Grab this if you are really intending to complete every single LEGO Pirate sets out there.) I gave it a "2" based on my Review Score Card. What about yours? I hope every one of you enjoyed reading this simple review of mine. Comments and Criticisms are strongly welcomed. Pictures can be found in My Flickr and My Brickshelf (When moderated)

    HMS Enterprize

[pid][/pid] 157D Hi! I'd like to present my latest frigate - hms enterprize. It is my third frigate. She is smaller than my previous ships but I think the best but of course not yet perfect. It isn't a replica - I rather based of the greatest ships built by Perfectionist. And this time I took some ideas from Captain Greenhair's tutorial, sorry for poor quality of photos. Enjoy more pictures are here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=538712 [ I just now see that Dr_spock start the topic of my ship - so please to cancel it and leave comments here ]

  9. [pid][/pid] 157C Hello Eurobricks! It has been far too long since I was involved in the Lego world. Graduate school necessitated and marriage necessitated that I leave my collection of Lego at my parents' home while I moved across the country (I live in the US). That said, I did complete one MOC about a year ago (though most of it was put together in 2010) that I would like to share with you. I call it the Crimson Dragon. Here is a link to the Flickr Gallery. Here is a link to the Brickshelf Gallery. It sports twenty-five guns per side makes for what I think is a rather imposing fifty-gun frigate (though the two gun decks might disqualify it from that designation). Note that the pictures are links to Brickshelf images. Here's a view of the rear: Here's an overview of the ship: Here's an interior shot of the captain's quarters: Here's the front: These redcoats look like they're about to march into a cannon: Here it is next to Fortress Redband, my previous Pirate-themed MOC: I made this MOC as my first attempt at a large Lego ship. Building a ship was very different than anything else I had done before so let me say that it was a significant learning challenge. If I could do it over again, I think I would ditch the prefabricated hulls and do custom rigging and I would seriously rework the size of the sails. I would also work for more historical accuracy since, if it's not obvious, my current creation is almost in the fantasy realm. All in all though, I'm happy with how it turned out. I am still away from my collection, but I eagerly await the day I can build again. Until then, I'm going to be more active here at Eurobricks as a way to sate my Lego hunger.

It's an expo in Lima (october 26th), and was a little expo but very significative. Album in flickr: Take care See you soon El Pirotecnico PD: Sorry for my bad english

    Beware the Tikis !

[pid][/pid]238A Hi everyone, Let me share with you my latest MOC, mainly created to highlight my favorite CMF from last serie - the Tiki warrior ! Legends mentioned a lost island with big red diamonds everywhere, but our brave pirates should have imagined that each treasure has its guardian ... Overall : Details : Pretty happy with the final result, it was interesting to try to break the symmetry of studs lines with the little rock structure and the bridge. I also tried to depict funny scenes with our unlucky pirates that cannot succeed in every adventure with a complicated runaway ^^ Comments & critics are welcome

The Temple of the Monkey God

[pid][/pid]238C Hi There, sometime back I had promise to come back with some more "monkey-driven designs". So (drum roll) here it is: The Temple of the Monkey God. How did we come up with this? It all started with a few monkey statues that my (older) son and I developed. Then it made sense to find a place for them. This is why you will find three different types of monkey statues. .. and there is a secret treasure hidden within the main statue: (what else could it be?) Actually, I could still combine it with some minifigs from the latest series. As usual, a MOC is never done. I hope you like this - we're working on more monkey stuff! Yours Captain Braunsfeld

  21. Hello, I just was wondering... am I the only one who bought tons of those sets with 6 or 5 minifigures in them? City, Space, Castle and Pirates... they were FANTASTIC! I really miss a lot those sets. Why doesn't Lego produce them any more? Who would like to have them back? Battlepacks do not reach all countries, and actually they are the closest thing to those sets... but not exactly same thing. So... comments?

    Multi-terrain diorama

Hello, guys! I'm BrickDuck and i'm new to this forum ... I decided to put all my lego minifigs into one multi-terrain diorama, so i created it in two layers (on ground and underground). So me and my brother started our mini project ... (double click for enlarging photos ...) It ended like this ... On the left, you can see racers' workshop with some random racers chatting while there is Horatio Caine (CSI Miami) following some random gangster ... Next to it, there is a fire/police station with some policemen and firemen around it ... There are also some random pedestrians ... There we have a car accident and young Pepper Roni by the construction place whith two workers (twins Fred&Fred as I named them :) ... Next to construction place, there are pirates and navy soldiers ... There is a pirate jumping from the bridge, a hidden pirate on the other side, a governor and a soldier ... Under the bridge, we have Captain BlackHeart from Doug Vandegrift's Lego Pirates Movie on a boat ... Then we have the medieval part with Cedrick the Bull and Lord Vladek fighting the King and Sir Danju. There is also an old wizard ... And the last part of upper world is the snowy land with Yeti and Flex from Alpha Team series 3 ... (i'll put Ogel there soon) And now for the underground >:D There we have Adventurers searching for the Holy Grail ... There is the Space Centre on the other side separated by a wall ... There we found: Indiana Jones, Irina Spalko, Johnny Thunder, Baron von Barron and other random explorers In the space centre: Technitians, astronausts, Space Cowboy, and many droids from Star Wars :) And don't forget the Superman :) That's it! Tell us your opinion ... Have a nice day! BrickDuck
