The Flying Monkey (2nd post attempt)

[pid][/pid] 150C Hi guys, I'll try again to post some pics of the infamous "Flying Monkey" (1st attempt failed...): It took me a while to find out how to finalize the ship. Then the idea to apply some monkey-driven design struck me. And then it was easy ... and my children love it ... ... and I tried to invent some new cannons: Next time I can give some insights into other monkey-driven MOCs. Take care Captain Braunsfeld

    Redskull pirate cutter/sloop

[pid][/pid] 148C Hi I am a new guy in here and here's my first MOC: I came out of my dark ages not very long ago, exactly at the moment, when I gave my 5 YO son (he is 6 now) some shoeboxes filled with LEGO. Ofcourse it was pirates he liked the most. And I still feel the same way. After buying PotC's Black Pearl and QAR we had to go on. I started to build two gun-decked, four masted ship, which is a WIP and this little sloop was build in the meantime. And It was inspired by other little ships like Commander Red Hat's The Seagull or many works of Sebeus whom both I salute. She has machine sewn sails made of PVC (PCV) fabric, and yes, I've made those sails all by myself (including machine sewing). She is build pretty solid and easy to repair, because she's purposed to be a playable toy for my son and also she has to withstand the attacks of the Kraken monster (2 YO little sister). Redskull has a captain's cabin, but it's not very useful, since it's very small, but it's rather typical for all small-hull ships. The crew isn't very happy... ...because they have to run from R.S.* "Neptune" (soon to be seen here on EB) *R.S. = Redcoats' Ship So here's BS folder http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=527724 (when public). And sorry for my english, I don't know is it still acceptable, I hope it is. C&C welcomed

  8. Zaeley

    Hello! Zaeley here.

Hi, my name is Luke, but Zaeley is fine also. I've been lurking in the pirates forum for a few years now and finally decided to join the team. Just getting around to a few bricklink orders at the moment but will hopefully be able to add to the community soon. Can be a little difficult while living with my girlfriends parents given the amount of room I don't have, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying what I love. It is really great to see such a thriving adult community for such a fantastic hobby. Will be hoping to make a new avatar once I've pieced my new lego character together. Red Coats rule! Can't wait to dive straight into the community. Regards, Zaeley

    HMS Eternity

[pid][/pid] 148B Hello everyone! After a long, long time of not uploading anything, it is finally time to show you my latest ship - HMS Eternity, a flagship for my Bluecoat army! It's been a long, long time since I started building this, and it spent over a year in a cabinet almost completed and waiting to be finished before I finally found the time and the motivation to do it. The bluecoats have always been my favourite faction in Pirate LEGO sets, and I actually used my currect sigfig as this vessel's captain, as you will see in more detail later. Front view, you can see the figurehead here, as well as the anchor. The anchor mechanism actually is pretty similar to 10210 Imperial Flagship's - there's a vertical shaft hidden under the main deck, with the capstan on the main deck. I used a rope instead of a chain though. If we count the bridge, the ship has a total of 4 decks. All of which are accessible. In the picture above you can see the ladders that lead to the two decks below the main deck. The main deck. The two ladders on both sides of the entrance to the captain's quarters lead to the bridge. We'll visit the captain's quarters later. The ship's bell is visible here as well. Two large sections of the main deck can be easily removed to access the gun deck. This picture shows one of the sections removed. And this one shows the other one removed. There's a total of 14 cannons. Ready to fire! There's a brown door behind the last pair of cannons. It's hard to take a good picture of it from here. This is the entrance to the galley. We'll visit it later too. This is the lowermost deck. It can be accessed easily by removing parts of the gun deck. They are all placed on plates for easy access, just like the sections of the main deck. The soldiers who are off duty sleep in hammocks here. On this cross-section you can see where the 3 decks are, with the removable parts removed for easy access to the lowermost deck. As you can see, there are two doors next to the sleeping guy. They lead to another room on the lowermost deck... ...and it's a storage area with some barrels and chests. You can also see some grey metal doors there too. We'll get back to them later. Aaaand it's me! Told you so! The captain's quarters can be accessed by removing the plate that covers the bridge. This is the door that leads to the main deck. The whole sterncastle can be easily removed to access the aft part of the lowermost deck. Note the door to the galley I mentioned earlier - now it's clearly visible. But when it's removed like that, one can take a better look inside the sternacastle. Part of the captain's cabin can be also removed to access the galley. With the sterncastle removed, one can now see what is behind the grey metal doors on the lowermost deck... And these are captains Red Beard and Brickbeard, both captured by the mighty Bluecoats! Their hats are removed as a sign that they are no longer in command. Did you know that Red Beard's hair is long? Soldier: Here's your food, Red Beard! Brickbeard: What about mine? And that's it! Thanks for reading! The Brickshelf folder is HERE, with some extra images that aren't shown here! Please let me know what you think about the ship!

    Pirates' Docks

Hello again peoples Here's one of my latest MOC's, an island for the Pirates. Please excuse the poor quality lighting in the photos :c I built this inspired by the hideout of the Pirates in the Golden Medallion Comic, but i'm not sure if it has much resemblance to it, cos I wasn't looking at it at the time of creation :P Overall shot with the BSB: Without: It may not be as impressive as the other pirates islands on here, but for me, it does the trick of having a home for them. Here's a closer shot of the main area: It's kinda pointless, but I used the shield with the stud on it from the CMF and stuck it to the bottom of a barrel so that pirate could hold it upright. Just experimenting. Don't ask about the carrot Here's a view of the rooftop, armed: Shazzam! Bad image editing ahoy! If I had two more spare cannons, the roof would be completely armed in each "port". Once the lone Ranger sets come out, i'll buy the Army Builder set and build more cannons up from that, yay. The ever so un-occupied inside of the main building, I like to think that this was once a RedCoat Outpost that the pirates took over. Very lacking... Anyhoo, here's a scene outside the pub, in the Hula Dancer's hand is a gem, which was stolen off of the knight who's falling through the docks. Further along at the end of the docks are temporary stand-ins for Flashfork and his first mate. I've yet to properly make Flashfork Inside that building (in the attic) is the Cargo hold, full of the stolen treasures from around the world! (The adventurers stuff mainly) Kinda unfinished. But speaking of unfinished, take a look at the building on the other end of the docks. Blown up by a cannon! Or was it my cat? I'm not sure who did it, but that building is history now. At least the youngsters can do whatever it is young people in love do here in front of the ruins. There's a great view! But underneath the docks are abandoned RedCoat belongings, a cannon and a rowing boat. But further along you'll find more big ugly rock pieces! And a disgruntled native, the original inhabitant. Plotting revenge, and not catching a tan. Yikes! And to finish up, my favourite picture of the lot, Captain Redbeard, Will and Rummy boarding the Black Seas Barracuda, on a course for adventure! Hooray. Thanks for looking! Please let me know what you think of this humble home for not so humble people! In the summer, it'll be for brickfilms Ta-ta! Axle

    An Easter Tale

We are almost in Easter (2 more weeks!) so I decided it was about time to make an Easter-related entry. Enjoy and beware of magic carrots Thank you Sebeus for your avatar photo I've been busy so I decided to photoshop things from here and there all around the internet, which means I've used elements which do *not* belong to me. Comments and criticism very welcome as always and may the best bluecoat win!!

    Pirate Sloop

[pid][/pid] 146B My smallest prefab hull based ship, a square rigged sloop. It's a bit minimalistic I admit. The technique I used for my polacca didn't work out on a ship this small so I build it the old way. I used all of my red cannon hatches, 6 of them but there's only room for (small) cannons at 4 of them, the two in the back are "fakes". The way I attached the rigging, sails and masts is... sloppy to say the least, yep definitely not my best point on ship-building . [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] More pictures in my Brickshelf folder (once public). I was thinking of entering this ship in the Mocathalon (at mocpages) in the category 'Does it float ?', thing is, does it float ? Anyway, there are some other mocs on the way as well.
  14. A few days ago I posted a topic looking for Pirate figure faces. Seeing that there was none, I thought I'd have a go at making some myself, but then I got the idea to make different emotions in the face to suit different scenes! These could be handy in MOCs if anyone wants to use them. So far I've just done Captain Redbeard to practice, but I'll go on to do more of the classic pirates as time goes by. Let me know what you think of these so far :) Just normal Redbeard: Angry Redbeard: Very Happy Redbeard ( Maybe he's just found the motherload of gold.) : Sad Redbeard: And finally (For now), here's Scared Redbeard: The mouth is a bit odd on that last one, I might update these once I get my hands on my Redbeard Minifig again. Next I'll do Governor Broadside, hopefully! Please leave a comment letting me know what you think or anything that I could add/change on these? Axle
  15. I recently got my old childhood collection back. I unboxed it yesterday and took some photos to share, if anybody is interested. If you have any advice or comments, feel free to post here. I have yet to sift through pieces. Everything seems to be packed up into these Ziploc bags and sorted surprisingly well. I think my mother must have done this. I have to say, it's so strange because my memories of my Lego collection are different from what is actually here. I remember us having repurposed paint buckets for our toys and the Lego was just kind of jumbled up in there, but what I unboxed here... it almost seems to be sorted by set, or at least theme. Who sorted this? I don't want to ramble on too long and bore you all, though. Anyway on with the photos. Here is a shot of everything together as it came out of the bin. Don't squint too hard, because I have other better photos with things grouped. DSC_0044 by ZeyaV, on Flickr I must admit, I had feared the worst. I was expecting everything to be a hopeless jumble, scratched up, abused. But I think we were pretty tame kids and my mom made sure we took care of our things. Rarely would we leave toys out overnight, and it would all go back in the bucket for storage. Sure, there are a couple plates and things here and there that are snapped. But by and large, this is in pretty good condition. Of particular note are the instructions. I would have bet these were long gone! I'm going to have to go through this over time, but these instructions are in good shape. A couple of the ones from way back that we inherited from our cousins are a little torn, but still usable. Again, don't squint too much/long at this photo, but here are all the instructions together in one shot: DSC_0030 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here are the instructions laid out by theme. Pirates! My favorite theme, especially as an adult. DSC_0033 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And castle! Wow. There's quite a few large sets here. These were some really nice Christmas presents. I remember my big Christmas present at the bottom of my stack was almost always a big Lego set. Well one year it was an Erector set. DSC_0037 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Space! I'm fairly sure the classic space sets were my older cousin's, originally. I definitely remember the parts, such as the technic pieces that make a bendy thing and the brackets with side-facing studs, and the little rocket-like things that face down (usually used as missile cannons or something, hehe). The couple of Blacktron sets were mine though. DSC_0039 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here are the other instructions for what Brickset terms "Basic", "Legoland", a Town racer set, and a McDonald's promo thing. Also 3 advertisement inserts that probably came from some of these sets. DSC_0041 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And two random Technic sets. DSC_0032 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And last item for the paper goods, the Lego Idea book. Inside, I found a sticker sheet, and one pristine sail from a Castle set. I think I got this when I was getting on the older side, maybe 12 years old, and I don't think I used this book too much. Hardcore video game phase. Spoiled brat. :/ DSC_0010 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0011 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Anyone know if those stickers came with the book? Edit: L@go confirmed that these stickers are in fact from the idea book. Okay, on to the gratuitous shots of bricks and elements. Keep in mind I'm just sharing photos at this point for anyone interested. I also want to say, this is going to be a long project for me to get these all washed and parted together. I'm thinking that 2013 and into 2014 are going to be light on the Lego purchasing for me. First up, here are all the baseplates (except maybe some very small ones): DSC_0042 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Those are 48x48 light gray baseplates. Do those even get made anymore? They're huge! Also, I'm not sure what the broken plate is on the far right, but it's got to be older, probably from my cousins. I have a dim recollection of snapping it in two as a kid. Lessons learned. On to bags of mostly Pirate stuff: DSC_0013 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0014 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0015 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0016 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0017 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0018 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And now onto Castle, which probably makes up 1/3 of all the bricks. So much gray. DSC_0019 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0020 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0021 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0022 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0023 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0024 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0025 by ZeyaV, on Flickr This is some of that Blacktron and other space stuff: DSC_0027 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And onto some more miscellaneous bags. This is mostly that Basic theme stuff, and I'm hoping the classic space is mixed in there too. DSC_0026 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0027 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0028 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0029 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And that's all the photos I took. Like I said, I have my work cut out for me. My mom liked to use moth balls, and that stuff stinks pretty bad. It's all going to have to get washed. I know there's a thread here somewhere on how to clean Lego, which I'll read up on again. I plan to wash everything (gonna have to be a dishwasher or clothes washer), and then try and put together every set. I figure some of the really old ones like the Sea Plane and Classic Space sets might be lacking some parts, for which I might turn to Bricklink if it's not too painful. I might also try my hand at writing some reviews for these sets, if that would be welcome. But overall, I'm pretty excited. It's going to be a lot of work, but it should be fun. So what do you guys think? Please share any advice or thoughts.
  16. I thought I should start a little story to spice of the Pirate forum, so here you go! C&C are appreciated. Chapter 1: The Change of Command The year was 1750 and there had been talks of a rebellion stirring up at the British colony of Port Imperial. Commodore Brickington was sent with a regiment of soldiers to the colony to stop this. When he arrived he went straight to the Governor's fortress. There, he ordered the change of command of the colony from the Governor to the military. Commodore Brickington: "I have been sent here to take command of the Royal Colony of Port Imperial. I hereby take take control." Governor Berkeley: "For what reason?" Commodore Brickington: "Talks of Rebellion. But it doesn't matter, I have a letter from the His Majesty. Either you agree or I throw you in your own prisons." Governor Berkeley: "Fine." Governor Berkeley: "But let me make some things clear." Commodore Brickington: "Go right ahead." Governor Berkeley: "The problem is pirates. Espiecally one named Joe Gardner, I have been recently suspecting him of planning a pirate revolt of Port Imperial. This colony is filled with them, I deem it wise to eliminate them." With that, one of Commodore Brickington soldiers came in the room. Soldier: "Sir, we have a problem." To Be Continued...

    CCCX Escaping from Africa

Part 1. I sailed out from Genoa with a feeling I would have some adventure and excitement on my voyage to the Levant; little did I know the vessel in which I was traveling would be attacked and destroyed by a fleet of Moorish pirates! I would have most certainly have drowned like my poor companions, but I just managed to climb aboard some wreckage. I stood up and looked about to find out where I was... That was my big mistake. A pirate vessel that had obviously arrived too late to help its allies, came up to where I was floating, and then one of the crew yelled in their coarse language, "Aha! By the beard of Allah, we are too late to fight, but look! Here is a wealthy Frankish merchant judging by his fancy garments! We can secure a large ransom for his safe return!" The rest of the ruffians grunted their approval of this awful scheme. It was then that I wished I had not worn my best suit… Part 2. After three days of sailing In the hands of the Moorish pirates, I arrived on the coast of what must be Africa, however, I didn't get a long look at the place for I was swiftly thrown into a small building with barred windows. I immediately began thinking of a way to escape. So a few days later, at the time I expected my guard to enter, I placed myself next to the window and pressed my face against the bars. When the guard came in I exclaimed, "Who is that damsel there? She is very beautiful, and she passes here frequently." The guard jumped to the window and looked out, As he did so, I slipped his dagger out of his sheath and hid it in my trousers, meanwhile I said, "Do you see her just going around the corner there? Ah! She is gone..." The guard stepped back and grunted, "I never get to see any beautiful damsels about in this wretched place!" He then lurched out of the room, but not without carefully locking the door behind him. Unfortunately for the pirates, I now had the means of unlocking that door... Part 3. The lock to my cell door easily gave way, it being so old and little used. As soon as I stepped out into the street I realized my uncomfortable position, here I was stranded without a penny in a pirate-held town in deepest Africa. I figured the best way out of this scrape was to steal a boat and make for the sea, I found three small fishing boats and the pirate vessel that brought me here. I sneaked onto the pirate vessel and found that it was filled with provisions ready for departure, so I raised anchor and sailed boldly out of the bay just as the sun came over the horizon. I praised the saints for my good luck and set my course for home! I can't wait to see the look on my friends' faces when I sail into Genoa as the captain of a Moorish galley..." The End See the set on Flickr. This is my first entry to the "Daring Escape" category of the CCCX. Thanks for viewing, and have a great day!

    Captain Foul

So hey, since I am recently out of my LEGO dark-age, I was re-discovering some LEGO-Pirates things. Somewhere in my search to find Piratey stuff I found a comic (http://www.peeron.com/scans/6255-1/23/) about the old LEGO Pirates theme, which ended in 1997. In the comic you can find a certain character named 'Captain Foul', and here are my questions to you, LEGO-Pirate lovers: 1. Why isn't he never released? Or is he? 2. Is there any more information to find about capt'n Foul? I would love to hear from you guys! Fraunches

    MOC - Barbarossa's rescue

[pid][/pid]232A Hi all! I'm from Spain and I come from LUG HispaLUG. Last december we organized our annual expo, the HispaLUG Expo 2012 near Barcelona. I showed in the exposition my last moc about pirates, Barbarossa's rescue. It is a history about a pirate captain that several years ago was captured by the Governor into a very strong fortress. And now his tripulation is going to rescue him... 12IMG_0315 por Pr3toriano, en Flickr 27IMG_0337 por Pr3toriano, en Flickr 53IMG_0375 por Pr3toriano, en Flickr I hope yoy enjoy it!
