  1. When the wave of Nocturnan refugees crossed the border during the war against Ravaage, they brought with them new styles of clothing, food and entertainment. They also had an influence on the new buildings of Khadira. This business has a repaired stone lower story with a wooden and lacquer upper storey. The Red and Black are typical Nocturnan colors for this kind of construction. This building has become a massage parlor, or so the owners claim. With so many refugees in the city some turn to desperate sources of income. The authorities have turned a blind eye during the wars but now that there is a High Queen upon the throne they may seek to investigate the premises. Masseuses try to attract potential customers from the balcony. A potential customer? Or merely a curious onlooker? This being Kaliphlin, any patch of shade quickly gets snatched up by traders and market stalls. It remains to be seen whether businesses like this will be allowed to function, suffer regulations and inspections or simply be closed down as order reasserts itself across the land. OOC: So you can see why I will never criticise other's photography eh? In a different country with a different half of my collection. Had a look at what could be pulled off and thought that a Nocturnan inspired business would fit in. Thought about the general situation, My pieces and what could be represented with them and thought of this "Scarlet House". I may try photoshop in the future but I mainly want tot build and share. I will look into getting a better background than a dog diaper though... I hope to build a few small pieces and slowly work on Khadira. I guess for HSS this would count as Hospitality - Entertainers?
  2. After the war, vast parts of Kaliphlin had been left in ruin. Not only as a result of the fighting itself, but equally significant were the diminished incomes from trade. Located along the oil road, Mophet had an ideal position between two of the largest cities in the region. Tabib D'Odo, one of the more prominent leaders of Mophet, tried to view the devastation as a chance to better the lives of the people around him. As the fighting had ceased, it was apparent that people still needed to transport goods along the oil road, and thus through Mophet. This in turn meant opportunity! Located about 1 days ride south of the Arkbri river, getting supplies to Mophet was easier compared to a lot of the other settlements along the oil road. And given his fairly good relationships with the tribes that populated the badlands, Tabib D'Odo was able to ensure safe passage for those bringing supplies and material, something which was not to be taken lightly. Something the people of Mophet never shied away from, was hard work. The climate and environment had bred a hard people, but also a stern belief that fortune favours those who are willing to work for it. To make sure the world knew that Mophet was now a place where the future looked brighter than it had in a long time, it was decided that a town hall was to be constructed. It would symbolize the spirit of the people, and act as a beacon of hope for things to come. Masons, carpenters and stonecutters from not only Mophet, but from all over Kaliphlin, all came to lend their services. Work of this nature had been hard to come by during the war, and many were thankful for the opportunity to do an honest days work, without the fear of death hanging over them. Within only a couple of months of the first groundwork being layed, the town hall of Mophet began to near it's completion. Tabib D'Odo stood on the steps of the building, the jade-coloured door to his back, and found himself at peace for the first time since the fighting had began. As one of the domes was carefully being lifted in to place, he looked across the yard - which at this point more resembled the desert than any grand beginning of any sort - and thought to himself "this is the time and the place which will mark the rise of Mophet, this will give us hope!" Sah'alia-rider on site So a long story, which I hope at least a few of you found some joy in. This is my entry to Challenge I over on Guilds of Historica (the theme being rebuild). I have a lot of other Mophet MOCs on the way but they are a ways away from being posted at this point. But like in the story, this is only the beginning ;) So stay tuned.     The Island of El Harraz

    This was my contribution to the Guilds of Historica collaboration at Brickworld this year. I built the entire landscape and started on the buildings, before getting Isaac’s help to finish the model in time. The base split into three portions, and all the buildings were easily removable to allow for convenient transport of the build. It had been a while since I’d done a proper Kaliphlin scene, so it was a really fun build and I think turned out quite well. Also, there are quite a few sig-figs throughout the build.   4. Another freebuild that i originally built for the Summer Joust and only recently got around to re-photographing with Kaliphlin personnel. Not all of the Kaliphlin fleet are huge dromons or lanteen rigged ships. On the west coast of Kaliphlin in particular, Avalonian style cogs are popular among patrol ships for their hardiness and troop carrying capacity. Here a Kaliphlin patrol ship plys the waters around the island of al' Esterbroke. I have to say, i quite like this design - i hope you have enjoyed it too! C & c welcome as always.
  5. So this is a little vig I made to introduce my sig-fig in GoH. I went with sort of a cartoon-ish look for the desert (probably inspired by som old super mario that I have been playing with the kids lately, haha!). Trying to get used to the EB-forum as well so I guess this also serves as somewhat of a test to see if I am able to post something correctly (if not, feel free to correct me ). Anyways, this is Tabib D'Odo. A doctor/healer and somewhat of a religious leader in Mophet. His healing abilities and knowledge was most likely passed on to him from his father, a rather absent man who spent his life travelling throughout the world in search of knowledge (even venturing in the darker parts of Nocturnus...). Tabib D'Odo spent his youth and adolescence in the Siccus Badlands, which was a hard as one might imagine. As he got older, he earned a living on the oil road, helping transport the valuable commodity through the terrain he knew all too well. Unlike many of his comrades though, he always had a desire to do more, and he spent many night studying his father's old journals. One day while working on a transport, he and his travellers were ambushed by a band of Lerik'ai and he was injured. The rest of his companions were all killed. Close to his death, dehydrated and injured, he saw a snake wriggling past him. The snake looked at him briefly and seemed to gaze into his very soul. Tabib D'Odo gathered his last efforts and followed the snake (hoping he might be able to kill and eat the snake before his own demise) as it made its way towards some nearby rocks. Behind the rocks, Tabib D'Odo was astonished to discover a small spring in the otherwise dry desert. The water helped him survive and he finally made his way to safety. The incident with the snake made a deep impression on Tabib D'Odo and he began to believe in a higher power, with the snake as the most sacred symbol of this. Settling in Mophet - a small town to the east of Barqa, along the oil road - he was able to help the community grow as both a healer/doctor, as well as a spiritual leader. His desire to help people, of all backgrounds, helped keep Mophet somewhat safe from the otherwise harsh treatment most towns along the oil road experienced. So that's the beginning of my sig-figs story :) Hope you liked it! I got some (a lot of...) builds planned and am looking forward to exploring the world and hopefully making Mophet a more important part of it. Cheers!
  6. Note: This first build for Book 3 was actually in construction before I found out about the launch of Book 3. It was going to be for Summer Joust, then after the announcement I was leaning toward joining Kali... then Varlyrio was confirmed! So this one has been a roller-coaster. Thanks for looking. The Duchy of Delmitra, Kaliphlin (East of Barqa) Small but wealthy due to control of a prosperous githril mine, the Duchy of Delmitra has only recently stabilized under the reign of its child-duchess, the Lady Elatisha Darya (Tisha for short). During the upheavals of the Kaliphlin civil war, her father and eldest brother were killed and Lady Tisha was forced to supply githril arms to first one side and then the other as Barqa's shifting loyalties caused ripple effects in the region. There's usually a lot of comings and goings at Delmitra due to its location along the Oil Road. Today we can see a Goldpike mercenary passing through on her way to some battle. A more peaceful scene transpires close by as a young centaur woman gathers cactus flowers. On the far side of the wall, a massive desert dewback tries to scare off a snake. But which one is the trespasser? On the walls, one archer looks on nervously as he realizes that the dewback is nearly big enough to climb over the wall itself! He hopes no one ever thinks to use the docile herbivores as weapons of war. Meanwhile, his younger companion is delighted by the sight of the dewback-rider coaxing the animal forward using nothing but a bushel of greens. Traffic makes its way into the city as well, greeted by the bright ringing sound of a githril-smith hard at work. Delmitra's audience hall is located near the entrance of the city and is open to all whenever the Lady Tisha is present. Her house guard is primarily Delmitraean Myrmidons, who watch the passersby with keen eyes. All kinds of people come through the castle, including hunters, fruitsellers, and laborers, often refugees, from as far off as Nocturnus. The rooftop of the audience hall is open to the public. All kinds of people spend time up there, and it's even used for storage! Known as the Blue Seat, the great chair of the Duchy stands in the audience hall where visitors can marvel at its githril inlay. Today, the Lady Tisha is entertaining a particular interesting visitor. Her regent, Lord Sasaram, looks on in horror as the Lady considers giving a priceless heirloom to a complete stranger. Meanwhile Tisha's bodyguard, Arrea of Bandari, tries to hide her amusement. "This is what you want? Just this little thing?" "Lady Elatisha! You mustn't think of it!" "Yes, that's the Lion's Eye. I came here hoping to recover it." "That's so strange. It's just a stone. Not even pretty." "But it's been in the Darya family for generations, Lady!" "Oh hush, Regent Sasaram." "Heh." "So Fel --Can I call you Fel?-- why do you want this stone anyway?" "Well, it's part of a pair. This map will take me to the other one. I need them for evidence." "Intriguing! Evidence of what?" "I believe there was once a seafaring empire of catfolk --lionells-- and these stones can help prove it." "Foolishness!" "Hush, I said. Fel, how can this prove your theory?" "There are records of a legend: ages ago, a brother and sister inherited the empire and split it across the sea, each taking a piece of an ancestral stone fashioned to look like an eye. One Lion's Eye was kept in Kaliphlin, the other in Varlyrio. Yours, I think. A gift for some noble a century ago." "So if you get the stones, you can prove the legend is true and there really was once one big empire?" "Exactly!" "Excuse me, but there are catfolk all over. Including some in my own homeland. Are you saying they are all related?" "I don't know, but I want to find out. If we all share a common history, shouldn't everyone know it?" "I think so! I've decided you should have the stone!" "Oh dear... what are they going to think about this in Petraea?" "Those stuffy old scholars can... they can... go eat their own beards!" "Haha. Yeah!" "I love my job." ... ... ...but wait... there's more going on in bustling Delmitra... ... On the rooftops, a meeting is taking place between Goldhorn, called by some the "Minotaur of Means", and a shady desert mummy. "I don't know, this seems like an awful lot of money just to follow some cat-girl around." "Never mind that, Garm. You know from personal experience that my coin spends." "That it does, Mr. Goldhorn. That it does." "Then you'll take the job." "Follow the girl, steal these Eye stones or whatever, and make sure no one finds out. Yeah, seems like my kind of thing." "Quite." ... ... Builder's Notes:

    [FB] Leaving Cold Rock

    Old man Meciar returned to the small spring in the cliff again. Without this spring Cold Rocks would be a dead place, but with the help of the water plants could grow. The dirt, on the other hand, had to be carried for miles - but that didn't matter to Meciar - Cold Rocks was a safe from raids. There was only a small opening that led into the hidden ravine that Cold Rocks had been built into many years ago. Meciar filled his bucket and turned around, and there he was, Janduin. He was not in his traditional white robes, but instead was dressed as he was going to do some dirty work. A pair of old pants and a worn shirt with both belt and suspenders. And he had a backpack! Was he going to the villages to trade like that? "Uncle Meciar..:" "What are you wearing! If you are going to trade dressed like that they'll rip you off!" "I finished watering the t'mat, uncle, and just as I agreed with uncle Seirin I'll be leaving now." "Leaving!? What has gotten into your head?! You are safe here. With us." "I am not looking to be safe." "Seirin! Get over here! What have you done to the boy!?" Seirin walks over with his eyes closed. Janduin realized that Seirin hadn't talked to Meciar, opposed to his promise the night before. "Well, Meciar, you see Janduin here wanted to know what happened, and how he came to be here..." "And what?! You told him?" "I don't know much of it, just that his mother..." "Don't talk about it! It is evil I tell you!" "But Meciar, Janduin is of age. He can make his own decisions now, and if he wants to explore his past, so be it." "So," Janduin said "what can you tell me before I go, uncle Meciar?" "Boy... I don't know much more than you already do yourself. Your mother approached from the north. Not a single piece of cloth was without holes, and there was some blood. She had gone thirsty for days, so it must have been a few days since she was at some civilisation, but as you know, that's not hard to do in this area." "We must also tell you about her last word" Seirin interjected. "Juric, Estair, Janduin. We assumed it was three names, and we named you the last of the three. But it could as easily be villages, hills, rivers..." "Or a spell" muttered Meciar. "Anyhow, we haven't heard any of them before or since." "True" said Seirin "and I've kept my ears open every time I've been outside this ravine. I know it's not much to go on. Just north, and ask around. Otherwise you could go towards Petraea and the university. Perhaps someone there has heard those words before." "Thank you, uncles. I promise I will see you again some day." "Now, take good care of yourself Janduin!" Later that day... "Well, well, well, Meciar. I almost thought you didn't want Janduin to go." "I didn't! Who will now serve tea?" I first built this to add to my collection of builds inspired by the book series The wheel of time, and just as I was finishing Gideon told me that Book III was about to start, so I adapted the build to start of my story. For the original plan I needed some more space in front of the cliff, that's why there's some empty space. Some of my other previous builds may also be adapted in the future, where they fit in. It's all built in modules, on two 32x32 moduverse baseplates, and parts of the cliff can be removed to ease transportation. Any criticism, ideas, help, and what not, are most welcome! I know I'm bad at taking photos. I think I lack the patience for it...

    Oasis Retreat

    After being forced out of his home by the Kaliphlin Civil War Badr the Botanist fled the capital, and took refuge by an oasis, the perfect place to continue his work. He lived a lonely life, but he was at peace. That is until a messenger from his former university stumbled upon his simple abode. Finally he builds for Kaliphlin! Fist official build of the year, I built this in early February, but only got round to posting it now because of school (and trying to stretch out my builds to make it look like I post regularly. A new sub-genre for me and I thought it was about time I branched out. Also two things have arrived in the mail (a while back now but till of great importance). a) Kingdom Come: Deliverance, look it up if you haven't heard of it. It has become my number 1 game and if you love anything medieval, you should consider this game. I mean it doesn't only look amazing, but the game play is great as well. b) I finally used up my CBC prize and got some Brickwarriors stuff, which has given me some much needed inspiration. I don't love using custom stuff, but when trying to make stuff realistic, its kinda a must have. C&C needed and hope you enjoy :)

Section One: Guilds of Historica Background The bard’s song tells a tale of a world long forgotten, Race against race, clan against clan, shields clashed with swords; long ago when Men of the Lion fought Men of the Falcon, and human armies succumbed to Orcs and undead. Each group clashed with its neighbor for power, unleashing upon the world a great scourge, and the arcane land was thrown into chaos. When it all seemed but lost, a council of wise men and sages was summoned. From all the lands they came to convene in the old world’s great city; the fortress of Cedrica. To settle the grievance and end a millennium of bloodshed, the sages declined all the treaties of old and joined all the clans into one mighty Kingdom; Historica. They founded the Four Great Regions- each one a realm in itself; - Mitgardia in the North, Nocturnus in the East, Kaliphlin in the South and Avalonia in the West, so that trade routes would spring up and clans would meet in the markets and not in the theatre of war. The wise men chose a family of great honor, to uphold the truce and to keep the four guilds from dispute. All is not as it once was. The Black Mage, Victor Revolword, unleashed a new scourge on Historica, taking Cedrica as his own. Though a united Histrocia defeated Revolword’s elemental monsters, the King of Cedrica is missing and the Guilds of Historica have been thrown into chaos. With the wise King’s absence, each guild believes it would be best suited to rule all of Historica, internal struggles have brought each realm to the brink of civil war! This is where the next chapter begins. The battle to take Cedrica from the Black Mage has ended, but the battle for your own guild has begun! Section Two: Guild Background and Theme Kaliphlin Guild - rulers of the Siccus Badlands in the southern region of Historica The Landscape: Siccus Badlands. kaliphlin by nice.marmot, on Flickr The Siccus Badlands is predominately a desert wasteland in the southern realm of Historica. Feed by lakes and rivers of the Avalonia, the Akrbi river runs through its lands and is the primary source of fresh water to the parched south. For the affluent, the preferred water source is the glacial waters shipped from the Mitgardia's snow caps. To the east are the trailing end of the Rakath Mountain Range. The mountain fortress of Qarkyr stands in the mountains acting as a sentinel over the inhabitants of the Darklands. The mountains are small compared to the lofty heights of the Rakath mountains. Under the shadow of the Rakath mountain lies the smaller Mystic mountain where various bands of Mountain Mummies will sojourn near the local villages during the oppressive scorching months. In the far west lies the meager forests and farmlands of the South. These pitiful farms do not provide much food, but the vastness of the farmland provides enough space to grow food for the sparsely populated Siccus Badlands. The port city of Barqa stands as the major trading hub in the western part of the Siccus. Here supplies from the north are shipped in and in return the Black Oil is shipped out. The supplies travel along the Oil Road - always heavily guarded to protect from bandits. Oasis's litter the Siccus desert with the largest one being Petraea, the ancient Capital fortress which is the home of the Kaliphlin. Though lacking in most other resources, it is one of the few producers of Black Oil in the entire Historica- generating wealth beyond belief for its inhabitants. Those within its inner city live in virtual paradise relative to those behind the outer clay-brick fortifications. The bulk of Petraea's citizens are made up of ex-criminals, freed slaves, fortune seekers and people looking to restart their lives in anonymity. While most outside the south presume that the Petraea is a lawless savage city- it is in fact the most lawful cities in all of Historica. The prosperous Black Oil provides plentiful jobs and money for all those who give an honest days work. Those that choose dishonesty, the vast standing Army of the Kaliphlin Guild hands out harsh punishments to ensure there are no repeat offenders. To the East, in the harshest area is home to the the Mountain Mummy tribes who are known to sporting bandage coverings from head to foot, they utilize their garb to ensure that none of their precious moisture is lost to the blistering, arid surroundings. No one is quite sure which race the mummies belong to, as none have ever been seen without their bandages, however, it is rumored that the mummies came to being when warlocks from the eastern darklands corrupted the burial chambers of the nobility during Quakyr's days as an early settlement. While the mummies pay no allegiance but to their chieftains, whom they revere as deities, they have sometimes been known to band together against invading forces from the Eastern Darklands. But the law and order of Petraea does not extend far outside the Capital and the two major cities. The remaining Oasis are savage places where those that are bent on lawless- thrive. They survive on raiding merchants traveling between between the three major cities in a constant and escalating battle with Kaliphlin army. Other regional cities have cropped up, and have from time to time maintained peace beyond their borders; however, few lords are powerful enough to keep the peace by themselves. This is one of the reasons that the Council of High Lords was established. A tour of some of Kaliphlin's most visited locations. Inspirational pictures: The Inhabitants The Siccus Wasteland is a scattered band of peoples - All races are represented - though the human population is less than the other three realms. In the cities it is not uncommon to see the nobles be of all races and creeds. Keeping with the survival instincts of the harsh climate, there is no set armour or weapons for the the Kaliphlin Army or its people - when they march into the field of battle they will use whatever the individual chooses to best suit them. Though while guarding inside the City, full dress armour is adored - to ensure that the world knows of the wealth that is hidden within this desolate realm. Outside the three major cities, the harsh south has lead many to abandon Siccus and wander north to more hospitable realms, this leaves only the most ruthless and hardened bands to wander the wastelands. While they are not typically aligned, they have known to form allegiances to oppose greater foes. Section Three: Recent Guild History The Victor Revolword war was devastating for many of the communities within Kaliphlin. Two of the major battles happened within its borders, and many other cities and towns were turned to ruins by the elemental forces. Still, the people of Kaliphlin stayed strong. Over the last two years they have built more fortresses, connected more cities with roads and trade posts, and have expanded trading empires outside the borders of Kaliphlin. The prices for oil have skyrocketed, as unnaturally cold winters have plagued the north and west along with the interruption of the economies of the other guilds from the war. Tourism has boomed since the war ended, as the nobles and those with coin in their pocket have taken to spending their holiday in Kaliphlin's dry and inviting climate -- especially at Lost Vega. Rumors abound that a Desert King has risen from the sands and looks to take Kaliphlin as his own, but for now, Kaliphinites are content trying to return to normalcy. In February of this year, the "Great Disturbance" shocked Kaliphlin. Eruptions of its venerable volcanoes, a large earthquake lasting what seemed to be hours, and a tsunami has left much of Kaliphlin in ruins... who will be there to rebuild the most glorious and rich guild of them all? Section Four: Guild Members For in-character purposes, the current leader of the Kaliphlin Guild is Dextrus Flagg. Originally a slave - this dwarf revolutionized the production of Black Oil making him the most powerful Merchant, and thus the earning and buying the respect necessary to become the leader of all of the Siccus Badlands. Although Kaliphlin has a guild leader, its economic, diplomatic, and military affairs are run by the Council of High Lords.     Petrea Central Mosque

    The Petrea Central Mosque is one of the older buildings in the Kaliphlin capital, having long served as a center for worship and learning among believers of the Siccus Badlands. Although not Petrea's biggest or most impressive, the Central Mosque's location in the city center has lent a status of great importance to the temple in both times of peace and war. The mosque is home to a number of religious scholars, students and dervishes. It's charitable missions stretch throughout the city, from clothing and housing victims of fire to feeding hundreds of city residents every day. My cheese is missing! ------------------------------------------ Hello! Doubtless some of you have seen this mosque before on my Flickr. Sounding like a broken record here, but... I hoped to write a story for this mosque related to current GoH events, but I just didn't find time. No need keeping it from you guys any longer, so here it is! I of course understand that Islam is not featured in GoH (or any real-life religion) and I use the term mosque only because that is the style of the temple. In any case, I hope you enjoy.   12. Exetrius Saga Previous chapters: Episode 17: Grave Discovery Somewhere in the south of the Desert lands, sometime in between the Kaliphlinian Civil war and the recent Civil war of Nocturnus... Some fifty meters from the mana pool, there was a stack of three stone blocks. Upon closer investigation, there was nothing special to them. It did not seem to be part of a ruin, either. Stenran suggested it could be a benchmark, which made perfect sense, given how their guide warned them for the thick fog that may appear every once in a while. The four travelers headed in the direction of the stones. More benchmarks followed. They found a water well, the remains of a cultivated field and a collection of ruined houses, burnt pieces of wood and pottery shards that lay scattered around the place. Plunderings. They discovered something remarkable on the cemetery: aside from the variety of gravestones, twenty-two stacks of stones, consisting of three each, seemed to have been added last. Next to that last stack, the sand grinded a bit, as if there was a hard surface underneath. Sirius "There is something here, I can feel it." He unearthed a heavy tombstone. "I'm going to shatter it with an arcane shock, gentlemen, take cover!" The stone crumbled and revealed a stairway underneath. Sirius told the others to stay outside until the coast was clear. He descended. There was a short hallway that lead up to a single room. He cast a light spell and entered cautiously. He looked around. For a tomb of these proportions, the possessions to be taken to the hereafter looked rather modest. However, above the grave in the back, he saw something that gave him goosebumps. This tomb didn't belong to an ordinary person! Sirius "Could this be...?" While he came closer to the artifact he stepped on a tile and felt a slight shock. "Dang it!" Water gushed out of a barrel and engulfed his head. Scooping away the water with his hands didn't work. The tried to scream, but his words didn't leave the bubble. He wanted to go to the exit, but he could hardly see where he was. He was about to drown, in the desert, by flying water... this wizard had a sense of humour, darn him! Kestero (Samurai guard) "... Sirius, are you there? Sirius Centario!" In a flash, the samurai froze the jet of water and the water bubble with his enchanted katana. Sirius "Buhugh hugh! ... I am grateful for that, Kestero, I owe you." Kestero "It is my duty, Sir. Let it be a lesson." After that, Sirius disabled the trap spell and reached for what he had been after.. .. the lost water runes of Kaliphlin! Sirius "Father, I have not failed you! I will bring you water magic, for the glory of Zotharith! Let us head home!" To be continued.... in the next episode: Setting sail Hi guys!   13. Exetrius Saga Chapter 1-15: Episode 16: I found something! Somewhere in the southwest of the Desert lands, sometime in between the Kaliphlinian Civil war and the recent Civil war of Nocturnus... The village where they had arrived a few days ago was, fortunately, home to a navigator who was willing to guide the Zotharian travelers. In a day's time, he led them towards a region of the desert that was said to harbor ruins of mining activities. Being frank with his clients however, he admitted that he had never seen the ruins on a reliable map or in a trustworthy travel journal. Nevertheless, the navigator was of great help and the desert they found themselves in looked like it had the potential to hide something they were searching for. At the break of day, their guide returned to his village. Not long after they had resumed their exploration, Stenran spotted the remnants of a road, but it didn't seem to go beyond the foothill in front of him. He went ahead of the others to check. As he walked up the slope, a tiny structure emerged from behind the edge. On top, Stenran gazed into the shallow pit... Stenran "Master Sirius! I found something!" Sirius "It better not be another one of those so-called 'rare' cactus species of yours, because I've seen enough of those..." Stenran "What, Sir?" Sirius "Nevermind. I'm coming! What have you found, let me see?" Sirius "Ah, look at that! Not as big of a discovery as I had hoped, but this is quite impressive, Stenran. Judging by the surroundings, this mana pool must have been here for a long time." Stenran "Any chance that we could break out the crystal?" Sirius "Of course not, haven't you noticed how well-maintained this one is? There must be some mage around who is depending on it. Take a step back, I'm going to test if it is functional."   14. Sorcerer of the Smothering Sands There are stories of dark and ancient powers, lying buried throughout the Desertlands. Those who believe in tales like these are often mocked. Few have the hope and courage to look for these relics, and even fewer have ever caught a glimpse what they really are. Of course, there have been people claiming to have witnessed bizarre events. Events unlike any type of natural disaster or magic known to Kaliphlin. Unbelievable events... Yet, those who seek, may eventually find. And when they do, the heavens tremble and the earth surges! They awaken.. the Smothering Sands... More pics: Hi everyone! Here's a small little freebuild, continuing in the Kali setting. Built for the Summer Joust 2017 contest, 8x8 vig category. I revised the base several times, but I'm satisfied with the result. Anyway, C&C is much appreciated!
  15. Ageven Deraim is famous for his good cheer, and his good chef, Chef Délicieux. And today, the Chef is busy carving up an extra-grand and delicious meal! Many hands make light work, right? Or is it too many cooks spoiling the broth? Hmm... Someone is having trouble with the sausages it would seem... But as always, Chef Délicieux is calm, cool, collected, and totally focused! Before building this kitchen I did a quick Google search and got plenty of inspiration! More pictures on my blog here! This was built both for the LCBTC second round and also for the Summer Joust. I always enjoy building kitchens or other food-related builds, so that was definitely fun! I had LittleJohn's recent (well, not so very recent) kitchen in mind as I built, although, of course, I went with some pretty different colors. The hardest part was hanging the stuff from the ceiling... tying such tiny knots was painful! Comments and/or critiques are welcome!

Raavage's secret weakness Somewhere in the surrounding of Cedrica, after he met the main heroes of Historica, the true heir of the Throne prepaed the most difficult part of his plan to defeat Raavage and the Spire... He's discretly rebuilt an old fort at the limit of the border between Avalonia and the Cedrica territory. It is at this Fort he called some vaillant heroes from all the Guilds ! First; a ranger from Avalonia : Then, a Serpentar Druid from Nocturnus, Followed by a Cimetar bearer from Kaliphlin, And finally, a Dwarf Hammer Warrior from Midgardia. They all gathered at the fortress without knowing who the True King was... What a surprise ! The King, the Heir, the Future leader of all the Guilds is a CHILD ?! - My dear heroes ! My dear Friends ! I am guarranting you I am ready for this battle and with your help, we will use the only chance we will get to catch Raavage from the Spire ! The only opportunity we can seize, is obvious ! The time when he will go out of the Spire to collect his precious Helmet of Power ! At this time, we will destroy his guard, seize him and finally destroy him for ever ! - But... How!? Asked all the heroes. - Thanks to my prisoner ! It appeared the King's Heir captured a strange creature who exchanged its freedom to betrail Raavage... The hideous creature told the little boy Raavage secret weak point ! It did not took long time to Raavage to move to the supposed location of the Helmet in a Kaliphlinite Oasis. The rare guards around were not a problem for the groups of heroes from all the 4 Guilds to defeat ! The main problem was Raavage and his guard inside an old ruin and gathered around the Helmet on its Pedestal ! Raavage took the Helmet. And he wore it imediately ! - NO ! Yelled the little Heir ! You FOUL ! The Helmet is secured ! He had just enough the time to finish the sentence than a Monstruous tentacled beast rose from the soil and torn appart everyone who stood at range ! Finally it seemed the main damaged was for the Skeletons but the Ravage guard stood well and a terrible battle began ! Here, the Algus repelling the spells from the Druids ! There, the Heavy armored warriors clashing with the best Midgardian steel ! And Raavage, powerful than never ! But... The little King slipped behind him with the strange creature he used against Raavage and put an apple in front of the nose of the Spire leader who started to sneeze and caugh loudly, enough to fall unarmed at the mercy of the boy !! - Yes ! You've guessed it ! Raavage is dangerously allergic to apples ! We cast him away just with this fruit ! A good king, is always the wisest ! THE END
  17. Another fun build for the ABC’s of Castle, over on Classic-Castle, as well as a Kaliphlin free-build. This one is ‘Courtyard’, for ‘C’. I wanted to try experimenting with color a bit in this build, as often times the Mediterranean style builds I see do so to great effect. It was especially inspired by the works of Robuko. It's been a while since I've finally gotten around to continuing my Katoren story-line, due to other commitments, but here's another installment. A sudden attack from the desert king forces leaves us in dire need of support. I was scarcely able to slip through the siege lines of the desert king, to deliver this message from Captain Temas." "How could it be?! Responded Qalaq from under his white turban. That outpost is only known about by loyal supporters of the High Council, and is almost impossible to find!" "A important question, Qalaq, that we must find the answer to. it shall have to wait, however; now we must make haste to gather our forces and lend aid to Captain Temas, before the fortress falls and the men are captured. I'll send my messengers to gather troops and supplies, and we'll leave before sunset. Messenger, thank you for your work. Now go to my room, clean up, and then get some sleep. You have to be exhausted." "Thank you, sir, indeed I am. But be sure to wake me before you leave; I'll not be found here sleeping while my fellow friends battle for their lives." "Very well, I shall do so.   18. Kaliphlin is known for its abundance of oil, and in Barqa the alchemists and craftsmen joined forces long ago to make this into the fearsome weapon known as "Barqan Fire". It is most commonly used on board warships, but smaller horse-drawn war machines have also started to be made for use in land combat. Unfortunately they are not very reliable yet and are not without reason feared almost as much among the Kaliphlinites themselves as by their foes. In this siege workshop in Barqa, a completed fire wagon is ready for transport to support the war against the Spire. The soldier doing the final adjustments to the pumping mechanism has however unknowingly built up way too much pressure in the cylinder... (Photographed with only the blacklight) It was a challenge to get the lighting good for this build, getting enough blacklight to give a good fluorescent glow but not too much so that the rest of the build turned all blue... Here is the photo setup, where the speedlight was fired at maximum power and mix of light was regulated by how long the exposure time was after the flash. Typically I used 10-30 s.
  19. Angmeroth, son of Agmenth, the ruler of the Reneshkit Clan, having been sent out by his father to scout for a well, came across a wandering tradesman. Although he fumbled a bit in speaking the trader's tongue, he learned much from the traveler. That the nearest well was about one-and-a-half miles to the southwest. That there had been multiple civil wars happening across the continent. That a beast named Ravaage was gaining power, and that this Ravaage was not a myth. And that the true king had come at last to claim his right to the throne of Historica. Hurriedly, Angmeroth bid farewell to trader, with a warning of bandits who had been seen to the east, for his father must hear of the king's coming immediately. But in the desert, water came first. Always. He continued his journey to the well at a jog. Having filled his waterskin, Angmeroth mentally marked the well's location, walked a little ways away, and began muttering an incantation. "Hamresh selth abol, goltheb nar regolin esh. Al nukele'a amreth. NEROL TA'ULSH SETHE'REK'NISH!" In front of Angmeroth, the sand began to shift. A depression formed, sand slowly sliding downwards, as if in an hourglass of immense proportions. A dark hole formed in the pale sands. Angmeroth closed his eyes, took a breath, and jumped. While in midair, an obsidian beast launched itself upwards from the depths of the earth, and Angmeroth landed astride it. Known as the Arthre'gonresh Ta'ulth to the nomadic Reneshkit, these beasts are not known to others, but in the common tongue, they would be called the Run'eshmi Ancients... And with a beating of wings, Angmeroth rushed across the dunes, urging his mount to go ever faster... IMG_0148 This is my first ever build for Historica, so be as harsh with your C&C as you can/want. If allowed, I would like this to be the introduction for my character, Angmeroth the Beast-Rider, son of Agmenth the Elder, of the Reneshkit Clan, loyal to the Guild of Kaliphlin. If you have any questions, I would be glad to answer them. Second to lastly, to the judges: The base is 10x14=140 studs square. So if the beast's head constitutes too much over hang, tell me, and I'll change the model. However, be warned, I am just about out of dark tan parts... and time. Lastly, thanks for looking! February 10, 2017 It’s been four years since I arrived in Historica and got hooked for real on this world. To celebrate this and to prepare myself for the next challenge, I’ve made an attempt to collect all my GoH builds here and will present them roughly in chronological order and try to put them in context. He is now the chairman of the City Council of the glorious city of Barqa, the trading hub of south-western Kaliphlin. That was not always the case... Sigfig in battle armor Gideon was born as the offspring of the daughter of a minor Avalonian lord and an unknown elvish father. When dying in childbirth, she took the secret of who Gideon’s father was with her to the grave. Love in Avalonia Gideon spent his early years among the human children in his grandfather’s castle Nordana Hall in Avalonia. Neither his grandfather, nor the other humans in the castle were particularly found of the half-elf, so Gideon learned many hard lessons from children and grownups alike that he wasn’t “one of them”. Practicing children Gideon decided to leave the place where he had never been truly welcome and set out to make his own place in the world. He spent many years as a mercenary and travelled all over Historica but finally made his home in Kaliphlin, the most diverse and tolerant of the guilds. Caravan guard Petraean city wall Book I - The Revolword Saga I joined GoH in the last months of Book I, and at that point the evil wizard Victor Revolword, his elementals and the forces loyal to him named the “Hand of Corruption” were wreaking havoc all over Historica. (You can read the whole story here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83406) Revolword’s Terror The small town of Groenby was raided by Revolword’s forces, and he appeared himself to perform some sinister rituals... Pillage of Groenby Victor Revolword in Groenby Cities were burning all over Historica... Burning city ...while some mercenaries were still fighting for the lords of Kaliphlin who had gold to pay them. This particular watchtower is occupied by the Arkbri Falcons, a notorious band of mercenaries under the captain Ediz Falconi. Falcon’s Nest Battle for Queenscross A strong force of Victor Revolword’s forces were marching towards the strategically important city of Queenscross, which held one of the only crossings over the mighty Arkbri river. (The battle was played out in this thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=80826). A call to arms was made, and Gideon responded together with the Arkbri Falcons, his old Avalonian friend Sir Derrik of Groenby (who’s county had been devastated by the attacks from Revolword and the Hand of Corruption) Army Marching to battle along the Arkbri River Many of those marching to Queenscross with Sir Gideon would later fall in the battle there, as told in the report of the battle by Paulos MacLean. Among the casualties were Gideon's old friend Sir Derrik. Aftermath of the battle of Queenscross Battle of Castle Zar Not long after the battle of Queenscross a new person showed up. Aidana, a battlemage of the Khel'Zarim, appeared and enlisted the help of Gideon and his friends to retake the seat of her order Castle Zar from the orcs who had taken advantage of the absence of most of the battlemages when they were busy fighting Revolword’s elementals all over Historica. On the road to Castle Zar After getting into the castle, the final battle against the orcs was fought inside the great hall of Castle Zar. Inside Kaliphlin Some of Kaliphlin’s many wonders were presented to the world through the Inside Kaliphlin collab, I built two MOCs for this. But Revolword and the elementals have laid waste to many of these structures. Now that Revolword had been defeated, craftsmen across Historica took up their tools to rebuild the former glory of Historica.” - Paraphrase of the introduction to SK’s Master Arhitect Challenge Gideon’s response to the immense destruction left by the Revolword war was to pay for repair works on the city walls of Kaliphlin’s capital Petraea. Paying for the repair of the Walls of Petraea Repairing the Walls of Petraea Raising the Dead In the quest to create a potion to resurrect Dugal MacLean (Ska’s sigfig) from the dead, Gideon assisted by capturing a red scorpion. It’s venom was needed for the potion. Mitgardian Trade Sultan’s Gate A collaborative effort to flesh out the city of Sultan’s Gate. This build was created to match the inside of the main gate built by Robuko. Sultan’s Gate - main gate and town houses Freebuild - Nordana Castle Built for the Swebrick medieval landscape but also to represent Gideon’s birthplace in Avalonia. Challenge I - The Battle for Nocturnus In Nocturnus, a civil war broke out between the old leadership and a new alliance calling themselves the “Black Spire”. I was assigned to the Black Spire team for the challenge. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86759 Soraya of the Hashishin, an ancient and secretive group of Kaliphlin mercenaries and assassins, was sent on a mission by the Black Spire to recruit soldiers. Travelling the Nocturnian countryside is however not without it’s dangers, so her trained monkey helped her dispatching a few ambushes... Ambushing an Ambush Eventually, Soraya found a cyclops tribe ready to join the cause of the Black Spire. Recruiting a Cyclops Tribe Fortifications throughout Nocturnus were also occupied by the Black Spire. Swamplands Tower Citizens supporting the Varlyrian mercenaries fighting with the Black Spire barricaded a city block in Illyria, the capital of Varlyrio. The Garra (guard of Illyria) was dispatched to deal with the troublemakers, but it turned into a bloody affair... Fighting Among the Canals Battle of the Wither Woods A battle fought during the War of the Brothers. Participants built forces to send to the fighting, which then were recreated by the GoH members doing the actual wargaming. The city is located where the mighty Arkbri river meets the sea. The Arkbri river stretches all the way from the mountains of Mitgardia and is a major shipping route through central Historica. Barqa is a melting pot of people and cultures from all points of the compass, and dozens of different languages can be heard in the streets. Streets of Barqa Streets of Barqa, outside Streets of Barqa at night Challenge III Political turmoil in Mitgardia made the dwarves take up arms and go to war against the Drow. Among the dwarves of Historica, veneration of the ancestors is widespread and many statues of fallen heroes are placed in the great dwarven halls. It is common to seek the blessings of these heroes of old, usually through a ritual performed by a priest, before going into battle. Blessing of the ancestors Dwarves going to war against the Drow, through ancient tunnels where their ancestors buried their dead. Drow grave robber have already been there... Infiltrating through the dwarven necropolis Challenge IV All along the usually fertile Arkbri valley crop failures started to happen, leading to widespread food shortages and famine. This caused food prices in all towns and cities dependent on that food to rise dramatically. Reports of food riots made their way to Barqa, where the emergency supplies in the city's granaries and it's strong city guard were been able to keep major riots from happening. Food rationing in Barqa Two powers arose to challenge the ruling High Council. Ulandus on islands in the south and the ancient Desert King arising out of the legends and taking Sultan’s Gate as his capital Bands of spies and raiders started appearing all over Kaliphlin, and the High Council struggled to keep those at bay.... Catching Desert King spies in the Arkbri valley Defending the supplies to Messahmuk Forces loyal to the High Council were also fighting to secure vital routes where enemy forces could advance, patrolling it’s own lands and ambushing the enemy where they least expected it. Blocking the road to Queenscross Guarding Flagg’s reservoir Patrolling the grasslands of southern Kaliphlin Ambush in the Nestlands Haxtarus, ruler of Cefivia, a location on the outskirts of the Witherwoods, betrayed the High Council and handed over control of his territory to Ulandus. High Council soldiers seized him and he was put on trial for his treason. Trial of Haxtarus Duels were fought between champions from the different factions. Duel in the Sacred Forest Duel in the Ashes of a Volcano Finally, hostilities ceased but with no clear victor. The Desert King in particular did however make significant territorial gains. The agriculture of Kaliphlin is heavily dependent on irrigation. During the Civil War, many parts of this infrastructure was damaged. Since the cessation of hostilities, the City Council of Barqa has sponsored a rebuilding campaign of the irrigation canals in the Arkbri valley. Now once more fresh water from the river can be diverted to the fields of the bread-basket of western Kaliphlin. Arkbri Irrigation The Frozen Beyond The Algus are an ancient race from the Frozen Beyond, north of Mitgardia. After being quiet for millennia, they suddenly moved south and invaded Mitgardia and pushed as far south as Kaliphlin. Strange icy creatures also appeared and seemed to obey the Algus magicians... Ice worm in the sand Algus capturing a fortress in Kaliphlin With bands of Algus roaming Kaliphlin, there were an increasing number of reports of strange weather. From some of the caravan routes, reports even spoke of fairly deep snow! Many animals perished due to the harsh conditions, so the Kaliphlin vultures were thriving. Snow in Kaliphlin Oil proved to be an effective weapon against the Algus, so the Council of Barqa decided to set fire to a number of tar pits despite the economic implications. The black oily smoke proved effective in deterring the Algus and reversed the effects of their weather manipulation. Together with the other measures used throughout Historica to fight the Algus, the frosty invaders were expelled to their frozen hell in the north once more. Burning the tar pits In the war against Raavage and his Black Spire forces (full story here), Lord Gideon led the Kaliphlin forces into war and defeated the forces of Raavage and his Kaliphlin loyalists in the battle of the Shifting Oasis.     [Freebuild] Final Words

    The Reneshkit Clan traveled annually to a small cove on the edge of the Great Southern Sea. For here, the water was shallow, and the fish were plentiful. But the journey was hard, crossing miles of barren rock and shifting dunes. Still 3 days travel from the sea, smoke was spotted by a scout. Angmeroth was sent ahead with the man, for he, aside from the elders, was most fluent in the trader's tongue. The source of the smoke was a small fire built in the hearth of an abandoned inn, the only remnant of this waypoint. Near the hearth lay a hooded man, tattooed and dressed in unfamiliar clothes. He was alive, but only just. Angmeroth offered him water, which he took, and in a croaking whisper, he told his tale... "I have... c... come from... from beyond the south.... Two weeks by...by ship... Mar...marvelous land.... A storm ca...came and... the mast... mast was broke.... Swept away... and...and washed...ashore.... Traveled far....*cough*... So...thirsty...Here...you must...must see...know...know the...the truth." He offered Angmeroth a strange piece of fabric. It glittered, as if it was woven from glowing metal. Final Words 2 "What is this?" asked Angmeroth, awed by the fabric in his hand. "I...do not kn... know. *cough* It was...given to... to me.... Take my...journal.... It has the...*cough*...the answers...that you seek.... Follow...*cough*...the Trident... s...south." *cough* He reached weakly for one of his many pouches,trying to grab the book. "What is the Trident?" asked Angmeroth, "How do I find it?" "Look...*cough* to the...sky.... At the...*cough*...hor...horiz...*cough*... the horizon...*cough*.... Search for...for the bri...the brightest...." *death gasp* The tattooed stranger settled limply on the sand. Angmeroth reached out and took the small,weathered journal. He turned to the scout, "I will take this fabric and journal to my father. Stay and guard him from the buzzards. He will be buried according to our customs." Final Words 1 Well, this is my first freebuild for GoH, so give C&C. I will be developing this storyline for the "A Safe Haven" Challenge, I will also be adding to my character's background.   22. This is my entry for the Category A of Challenge V in Guilds of Historica. On a sunny morning there was clamor and fear in the streets of Norvica. What was going on why some residents of this peaceful town are sceaming and flee into their houses ? A Nocturnian orc was riding on a horse with a fasten prisoner draging behind him. Everybody recognize this prisoner, it was Bundar the farmer, he lives in a ranch a few miles outside the city. Wait a minute, orcs never ride horses, that must be Bundar his horse he is riding on !! Two members of the royal guards of Norvica are coming in action and try to make a ambush for this Nocturnian orc and free Bundar. Lets hope they make this nightmare to a good end, because the guards of Norvica never got a challenge like this before. For more pictures look on my Flickr account.

    Fresh Fish!

    My 8th entry into the CCC XIV, for the Traveling Salesman category. I’ve wanted to try an Asian themed build for quite some time now, and this category seemed a great opportunity to finally actually do it. I’m very pleased with how this build turned out, though there were definitely some challenging parts. It was inspired by several of Disco’s excellent Asian builds.   24. Built for category A of Challenge V, for the Alliance side. The path design was inspired by Thorsten Bonsch’s Orsinium. It was fun experimenting with the path here, albeit time consuming. A messenger gallops through the lands of Kaliphlin, spreading the word of the return of the true king of Historica! Perhaps 'gallops' is a poor choice of words though, as the camel seems content with a slow walk, much to the messenger's distress. More pictures on Brickbuilt Thanks for looking, C&C welcome

    Leopold of Norvica

    When Leopold en Michael arrived in Norvica they met a lot of old friends who were brought in Kaliphlin as a slave. A lot of civilians who lives in Norvica were born in the Lowlands, the same land were Leopold and Michael came from. Because of the heavy rumours about a new war decide the two brothers to defend the beautiful village of Norvica. All the people who were slaves in their lives has a lot of bad memory's about that time and don't want to be slave again. They rather choice to fight till they die than be captured and sold like a animal on a marked place. Leopold and Michael understand what they have to do and want to help this village to joint the royal guards of Norvica. This is leopold and he is a member now of the royal guards of the village Norvica. And it is my new avatar.
