    Red's MOCs n' Mods

I seem to be trying out a lot of random and disparate bits n bobs n ideas right now, and rather than cluttering up the forum with each new idea, I thought I'd post em all in a specific thread. -------------------- Continuing from the Mk1 MOC I posted in this thread, I finished the design, although by the time I had done that, I had already decided that, as much as I like it, I won't be building it for a good while. It's far too big for my very limited layout (neither the space, nor resources for smooth curves at the moment), and to be honest, the one steam loco I currently have is not of a standard, nor really in the same scale, to go with it. So, I still have a steam loco, and only modern era freight stock for it to pull, so what to do? I decided to settle for a 6 stud wide Mk1 inspired design that is a lot closer to normal Lego lengths (I still slightly lengthened the larger standard train base), which I have dubbed the Mk0.5... :P As well as being shorter, thinner and flat of profile, it's also considerably less detailed, with features largely inspired by the same playability (and in the case of the doors, building practice) of the Creator Horizon Express (aka TGV). It's mainly intended as a quick train builder so I have something to play with while I design better more detailed rolling stock and locos. There are currently 4 different types: Mk0.5 Full 1st. Mk0.5 Buffet 1st. Mk0.5 Full Std. Mk0.5 Std Brake. ...And finally, a quick image of the full rake behind a rather out of date version of my Mongrel Mogul! At some point I'll post photos of the now basically complete loco, but for now, I think I've filled the net with enough nonsense!

    [MOC] USRA 0-8-0

... or at least that was what it was supposed to look like [EDIT] V2 with LDD file [/EDIT] Hello all, This is my latest steam engine, based on a USRA 0-8-0. USRA 0-8-0 by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr It features BBB Medium drivers. The thing is powered by a M-motor, and receives current through a emptied 9V train motor (don't worry, it broke before I took it apart) It features some pressure gauges. USRA 0-8-0 by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr I originally intended to add a decoupler based on this design, but the tender would become too long to look good with the engine itself. The light gray area is for a logo which I still have to create and print. USRA 0-8-0 by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr More pictures Thanks for looking, improvement points are appreciated

    Lego train side structures

Since the RC-trains are released, Lego has stopped releasing side structures for cargo trains, probably due to the fact that "trains" isn't a main theme anymore. If I look back at the 9V and 12V themes, I love the side structure sets that are released in that time. According to you, is there any chance that TLG will release new side structures like cargo stations, level crossings et cetera in the (distant future)?
  5. Been working on these for a while but finally finished. I have recreated two fantastic models. A Robel Bullok 54.22 and a Plasser & Theurer MTW100. The bullok i first found years ago in a Kibri model train catalogue. I loved it and wanted to build in Lego. I'm no master builder, so couldnt get my head around it. Anyway found this www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=288796. Again wasnt happy or confidant about it. Finally got my backside into gear this year. It was a great experience building these, learning a tonne of building techniques, and using a tonne of reverse engineering, and trial and error. https://www.flickr.c...57644956327185/ Robel Bullok 54.22 recreation by coghilla, on Flickr Robel Bullok 54.22 recreation by coghilla, on Flickr Robel Bullok 54.22 recreation by coghilla, on Flickr The other was the MTW100 by eurobricks member Capt K. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=79799&hl=mtw100 My flicker album https://www.flickr.c...57644956327175/ Plasser & Theurer MTW100.083/1 by coghilla, on Flickr Plasser & Theurer MTW100.083/1 by coghilla, on Flickr Work wagons by coghilla, on Flickr Work wagons by coghilla, on Flickr Work wagons by coghilla, on Flickr
  6. Hi Everyone, I have taken advantage of the long and cold days to build one of my very first MOCs. The recent Lone Ranger theme inspired me to work on a western layout. As I have limited space to build, this MOC is a modular build and can be split into two sections. I have to admit that I wanted to work the cliff on the upper level a bit more, but I know that I will have close to no time to build in the coming months. I wanted also to include as many features as possible in a limited space. I hope this was not too much. Here is an overview of the build (the train is the original train from LR): All Main by Kinggregus, on Flickr Another view from a different angle: All Main2 by Kinggregus, on Flickr A close up of the fort. The name is inspired from the cartoon "The Blue Coats": Fort1 by Kinggregus, on Flickr The fort under a different angle. You can see the cave that Indians can use to go to the "Main Level": Fort2 by Kinggregus, on Flickr Here is a closeup on the cave. It includes a stair for Indians to go to the upper level. Cave1 by Kinggregus, on Flickr The Indian Camp can be better seen from this picture: Indian Camp1 by Kinggregus, on Flickr The mine can be separated from the main build. Mine1 by Kinggregus, on Flickr I thought it was fun to have a the possibility to turn the light on. I used the lightbricks to make it possible: Mine2b by Kinggregus, on Flickr And here is a final overview of the MOC: Conclusion by Kinggregus, on Flickr I would be pleased to hear about your comments. I will probably be building another section in a couple months. Therefore any criticisms would be welcome. Thanks a lot!

    [MOC] Diesel Shunter

Hey Guys here is my work in progress Of a Shunter. It may look complete but it is not as I need your help to give suggestions on what to add! Link: https://www.flickr.c...06/14749146646/ The back of the train you cannot see is just a red brick wall so I hope you can also tell me how to make a back of a shunter look better! Thanks Guys -RailCo P.S. I know the buffers are grey but I do not have any black cow catcher buffers, and also just realized i forgot hand rails on the cab so that why it's a WIP . EDIT: I would really enjoy your help. I have added windows which makes it look 10 times better. This is my first ever MOC of a shunter so any suggestions are welcome!

    MOC: Modular Curry Station

First real post of a MOC in the town forum, I present to you "トレイン カレー" or "Train Curry". This a a small restaurant inspired by the real life "Curry Station Niagara" in Yutenji, Tokyo where my girlfriend and I spent an extremely nice evening as the only customesr during the 2nd worst snowstorm to hit Tokyo this year. If you are ever in Tokyo, I highly recommend a visit as the Station Master (yes he really is one) is extremely friendly and your tasty curry is delivered by toy train. More info on the inspiration for this build can be found here: http://www.facebook....station.niagara So time for a tour. The outside Here you see the building from all sides, its a short blocky 2-story affair. It was built on a 16x16 plate, with a 4 stud overhang on the left side for the stairs to the 2nd floor and a 1 stud overhang for the frontage. It will sit into a 16x16 recess on my train layout, hence no street detail around the building in these shots. The reason for all the 1x1 headlight brick holes will become clear shortly. The sign on the front is my best attempt at brick built Katakana (Japanese alphabet used for western words). Really "train" should be "densha" not "to-re-i-n" however that would call for some Kanji (Chinese style characters) that just could not be realised in the space available. I was tempted to just build 'curry' in western script but thought I'd have a go like this first; let me know what you think! A close up of the steam engine front end in the bay window: I wish I had a window piece without the burger on, but I just cant bring myself to use the poleesh remover of naieel. I'm also hoping to find a better sign for the level crossing post. The inside Having never seen the upstairs of the building that served as inspiration, I settled for a generic small flat interior with compact bathroom (shower and toilet) and an open living area: It looks quite spacious as there is no bed (assume there is a futon stashed away somewhere) and no kitchen (but then there is already a restaurant downstairs, perhaps though I should MOC a rice cooker). The robot is there just because. The Restaurant I tried to pack the restaurant full of memorabilia, picking some key features from the real life inspiration such as the ticket machine where you order your meal, the train number plates all over the walls, the ticket window and station clock, and of course the toy train track around the room for curry delivery. Now you see the reason for all the 1x1 headlights; how I wish Pick a Brick sold 1x1 with stud on side in brown. If I ever get hold of some minifig roller-skates I will build a small train for making curry deliveries, but for now the track is empty. The ever happy station master talks to his patrons: Behind the white wall is a small stove for making curry, In reality there is a bathroom here and the building extends back further into a small kitchen. I had no room for such though (my layout has a train running directly behind the building with only 2 stud clearance). I also forgot to re-assemble the top of the wall for this shot! The right hand wall swings away providing a minifig's eye view: A final shot from behind the bar, a spare station master cap sits on the luggage rack for patrons to wear: And finally here it is in my layout: (see http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=95715 for more on the train layout itself) Thanks for taking the time to look at my MOC. Comments and suggestions welcome.

    Steam Monorail

Hi everyone! This is my newest creation, a remote controlled minifig scaled monorail, which is not fast, not modern, not streamlined, but old, dirty and slow. Despite or because of these fact, I hope you like it! The video: Maybe you remember my RC STS crane (http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/380083). The temperature was +1°C in that video, in this video it was +42°C! The bridge and the other things under the track contains approx 1000 bricks! On the last Malug meeting we made a bridge building competition and after that we got the bricks. What a cool thing, without them, the train destroyed the track. And an advice: if you build a monorail, don’t make the video in a rock-garden. Find a flat and horizontal table, and your life will be very comfortable! :D (to make the scenes with the bridge took more than 4 hours, I had to rebuild the whole track after every failed record) The Track looks simple, but it has to be strong and stable, because the train’s centre of gravity is in a high position. Of course the technic pieces are the best for it! The blue 2L pins are necessary. If we use only the small pins (with stud on one of its ends) the system part of the track can leave the technic part easily. Behind the windows: I found out the method I used, while I was building my RC Mercedes Citaro (http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/349750). The main feature of this method is that the model has an only-technic module inside, and it is covered by system elements and walls. The inside modul is completely independent, it can work perfectly without the system parts. In my Mercedes I used this only at the driving mechanism. The main advantage of the construction is the stability. The technic pins and liftarms (built in three directions) are strong enough against the forces caused by motors and gear ratio (and crashes…). 10. For Power Function Train, which do you prefer type of battery power function? Both have it own pro and con.... Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box 8878 Or Power Functions AAA Battery Box 88000 VOTE HERE POLL! http://www.poll-maker.com/poll116886x56B946D1-4 Not know the different in both battery? read on more below. Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box 8878 It rechaged by plug into the wall input. very convince way to recharge it up. But the question is how long dose the battery cycle life span last in long term? If it ran out of cycle charging out, you have to buy the new one for retail value USD $49.99. Very easy to leave the battery in the lego train and just put wire in the train while charge without need take them part to replace it. Power Functions AAA Battery Box 88000 The most cheaper battery pack retail value USD $12.99 that require you to put in 6 AAA battery, value of it may be reasonable if you use rechargeable AAA battery instead of disposable battery. For long term, you can have that one pack for life time and easy replace the old aaa battery for cheaper. But depend on the train lego, some will require you more time to take lego apart to pull out the battery AAA battery, recharge it, put back in LEGO train to play with it. 11. I started this thread because I'm contemplating buying a LEGO 10219 MAERSK TRAIN for $350 AUD (Details) and wanted to know what other Lego train enthusiast would be willing to pay for this set. I'd probably be persuaded to buy the set if others where willing to pay close to that amount - ah you got love how we try and justify our wants. I thought this may be useful for other retired Lego trains sets so please feel free to add you own . . ."I'd be willing to pay X for set xxxxx" Me, I'd be willing to pay $250 -$300 for a 10219 MAERSK TRAIN

    My New Train Room

Hi all, So pleased I have finished refurbishing our 'study' that I wanted to share the results. My girlfriend and I have so many books (mostly hers) and lego (mostly mine ) between us we decided we needed something a bit more fit-for-purpose that the hodgepodge of Ikea furniture we had: Here is the room stripped out, its about 2.5 x 1.9m : Starting on a whole wall, built in desk and shelves: Then the highlight, the train track, which runs at the height of the door frame. Over the window: Over the door: And to add some interest on the wall opposite the desk, over a canyon: Finally joined it all up last weekend, then spent a few evenings this week constructing the canyon and bridge, which is my first real attempt at 'realistic' (or at least interesting) terrain. The view from my normal standing height: From a little higher, so you can see the river: Canyon wall 1: And the other wall, I've now exhausted all my grey bricks!! On the whole I'm pretty happy with how the 'furniture' turned out; woodwork is almost as fun as lego. The shelves are 16 studs wide the whole way round, then 48 studs wide on top of the bookshelf, so there will be plenty more scenery and a station (or two) added in due course. Comments and suggestions welcome.
  15. Hello, I am making bigger my station and I am building aside a cargo terminal. So I share with you some pictures of the present state of my Layout and I hope to have comments and suggestions on how to make it better. Let's start with the station: It consists of 4 platforms and a main terminal building. The station is somehow inspired by the System sets although is quite customized. More pics: In this picture you can see also my mini-sized ETR500 (frecciarossa) that is not as beautiful as the one posted by bmacro but it is "in scale" with my layout. Let's go to the cargo terminal. This is inspired by the set 4555,although it is heavily customized as well. The crane is functional. interiors are poor. There are control centers are the ground level as well as the upper floor. And finally a custom element of my layout: the bridge and the tunnel. you can also see a video here: I am waiting for your comments suggestions! :classic:

    MOC: Brickington Center Station

I've had this MOC done for a while now (the first thing I've finished building in a very long time) but hadn't gotten around to posting it yet because I was very busy with my college work. However, now that it's summer, I'm finally getting around to it! It feels good to have some more time to give to Eurobricks again. Anyway, here it is, Brickington Center Station. This station located at the heart of downtown is perfect for hopping on a train that can bring you anywhere you need to go in the city. Pick up a quick snack at the bakery and buy your ticket before taking the escalator up to the platform. More pictures are located on my Flickr page. Thanks!
  17. Here is my knuckleboom crane that was inspired by the SRS KRT20 semi trailer road rail crane. Still need to finish the stabilizers and others bits but i say its mostly there. As road-rail unit it can travel on both rails and the road. This enable it to travel to the work site without holding up precious track time. The crane has a reverse knuckle boom to enable works below the cantinery wires.or OLE (overhead line equipment) expandable counter weight at the rear. The double track wheels at the rear of the truck and trailer enable the loading of the whole unit from any road crossing up to 90 degrees. Watch the video to see it in action. I managed to squeeze a train weight into the trailer for extra support and ballast. This will be the first of a couple of SRS vehicles that i plan to build. The links below are to the product pages and a youtube video i found. Any questions please ask away http://www.srsroadrail.se/downloads/cat_view/20-modulesothers/42-semi-trailer http://www.srsroadra...rs/semi-trailer http://www.srsrailuk...nne-metre-crane Untitled by coghilla, on Flickr Untitled by coghilla, on Flickr Untitled by coghilla, on Flickr Untitled by coghilla, on Flickr

    Mindstorm EV3 CD

...hello out there... this past weekend, I was able to buy an opened/used Mindstorm EV3... some of the baggy parts were open, while some were not... I did check the big and important pieces by looking at the parts list at the back of the manual... although it wasn't listed, I've been told prior that there was a CD that comes with it... the one I bought did not... My questions are: (1) how important is this CD to the overall functionality of the EV3, (2) where can I get a hold of one without going through TLC and Bricklink and (3) can the content of the CD be copied for personal use? Any help is much appreciated.

Your task, should you choose to accept it, will be to test your wits by shunting cars around the yard in the fewest possible steps.
  20. one day I was playing with an old wind up motor i had. I alwase liked the way these motors spun at a fairly slow pace for a long time, rather than spinning all their power away in the first few seconds after winding like most wind up/pull back motors do. thats when it hit me, sence it has such a long run time, just how far would it go on my layout? well, it worked better than you would think, so i carefully removed the road wheels the motor came with and fitted it with a set of blue/grey era train wheels (easier said than done). i decided id make the loco in the classic 80s style sence the running gear was from that time period. the end result? I tried to make it as small and light as possible, its smaller than it looks in the pic, fits in the palm of your hand. heres it is next to 7722 for size comparison. theres just enough room for a minifig in the cab. his head just barely touches the roof. well it was a fun experiment to say the least, the engine isn't exactly what you would call practical, but it works ok for what it is. its actually pretty suprising what it can do, really under rated motors these.
  21. We are a group of AFOLs in Denmark who are planning a new tourist attraction in Denmark called World of Bricks With large landscapes and locations from all over the world. It will be a must for all LEGO fans. You will also be able to se big displays from LEGO themes like Star Wars, LEGO Friends, Harry Potter and many more. The AFOL community is very important to us and therefor there will be many ways for you to have your work display or even work with us. We are in the early stage of the process, but we would like to know what you thing of the project and if you would travel to Denmark to se it. World of Bricks will be located near Copenhagen. So please support us on https://www.facebook.com/worldbricks
  22. Hello all: As promise,d here are some photos of the layout I presented at Brickfair 2014 in Manchester, NH. I decided to go with a working cargo yard, patterned loosely off of the operations of the Maine Central railroad in the later 20th century. The cargo trains for MEC (often pulled by a GP7 od the type I built for the layout) regularly hauled pulpwood (non limber grade) logs to the state's paper mills. So I tried to capture some of that quintessential railyard activity while also keeping the layout fun for all ages. I hopu you like it! Some overview pictures: The signal tower was loosely patterned after PT Tower in Rigby Yard, South Portland, ME. All buildings have interiors. In a concession to time I chose only to MOD the 60059 logging truck: I built a new back end with a second trailer. The shed is bullt on a single extra-large gray baseplate (48 studs). It sits on an elevation of about four bricks -- for reasons that will be apparent soon!. The shed roof comes off in two pieces, like the Simpsons House roof. There is a center beam that holds the "cupola" area. You may notice my homage to the 10027 train shed tools. Ooops! An 8-wide flat and two six-wide boxcars that I built (with help form m 10-year-old son) to fill out the layout. The pink hobo was a last-minute addition. I am very pleased with this bulkhead flat, depicted here being loaded with pulpwood. Get back here, bacon! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did building and showing it!

    At last ...

Apologies for being a real newbie here, shouting loud, but ... After wanting a lego train for years, even as a kid, and never getting one, finally yesterday I managed to get myself the passenger train at a reasonable price here in Sweden. Excited; yes very! Biggest challenge is to hide it from the kids until I get it built! So, hopefully, I'll be in here more often, combining train ideas with cities!

    LEGO GNER HST MOC

Hey guys! I've just made my second MOC, this time it is an engine! The GNER HST 125 to be precise. I'm pretty pround of it because it is my first LEGO train engine MOC. And for my first one I thought that I would choose my favorite train And here is the LEGO version: I had trouble with the front because it uses SNOT. Which I'm not that good at: The reason that it is black and red is because I'm only using pieces from the Hobby Train 10183. And here is the back where you can adjust the I/R receiver: You can take off the top to access the batter box too: So, that's about it! I'm open to critiques!

    Early 1900's Style Train

Hello again! This time I've brought you something a bit special, A locomotive of my own type! I don't know if these exist or not, but I made a crocodile style steam locomotive! Here is a full view of it: As you can see, it is not that big. Only enough that it can hold one minifig who is driving it. Speaking of driving it, here is the controls! Well, it really Isn't that realistic compared to real steam locomotives :P Here is it turning: I also made a coal car from a similar time which I'm pretty proud of: Here is a side view of it. The problem about LEGO tracks are the tight turns so the 4 wheel design does not cope well on turns: That's about it! Feel free to critique it!
