    14 Gun Brig: Pinnacle

[pid][/pid] 160D After one and a half years of effort I would like to present the 14 gun brig-of-war, Pinnacle. Pinnacle is made up of about 3200 LEGO bits. I've used yards and yards of five different types of string to simulate the vast array of rigging you would find on a sailing man-of-war. To make the sails I've used painting canvas dyed with tea, and with a sewing machine I've added the reefing lines. She was originally built on prefab hulls utilizing Imperial Shipyard's next-gen design, but evolved into a waterline model after seeing DPW's Ship-of-the-Line. She now has a technic brick frame to keep her from hogging, or falling to bits. Many pictures of the build can be found in the WIP thread. Credit goes out to many builders who's techniques have been included in this model, and to the community for the feedback given to bring this ship to its fullest potential. I'm quite happy with the stern in the end. I carved up and pieced together the lattices from the larger window latices. They really make the stern pop! I've used wheels to create the various blocks and tackle found throughout the standing and running rigging. The "chains' are made of a wire that holds each block to the hull passed through a technic flex tube. Building them in this way has made the masts extremely stable. Here you can see a few of the 14 brick built cannon purchased direct from the D.P. Wesley Foundry in Bricksburg. I've tried to include as much detail on the deck as I could. The capstan is shown though at the moment it doesn't function. The captain's cozy cabin. Captain Townsend inspecting the newest addition to his expanding fleet.
  3. Hello there everyone! After watching The Lego movie on the 9th, I noticed that in the movie, Metalbeard has some differences to the Metalbeard in the set: 70802- Metalbeard's Duel. I decided to change it to be more "Movie-accurate" (I apologise for the bad quality photos) Front: Back: I noticed there was a 2x4 dark grey plate on his back in the movie: Source image: Hope you like my 'mod'

    First pirate ship?

Ahoy maties! My first post in this forum. I've recently gotten into the Pirates theme and I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for the first pirate ship to buy and the best and cheapest way to get it, I'm hoping not to have to spend more than £120. Cheers
  6. [pid][/pid] 246C Hello everyone! After countless emails, several hours spent over skype, 4 photo shootings and a few extra hours of Photoshop... I am glad to be finally able to present you our entry in this challenging contest! The Shark Reef “Black Jim”, also known as “Shadow Jim”, Captain of the « Sea Disgrace » ended up stranded atop the Shark Reef following a course plot error from his first officer Charles Cooks. Charles is a former navigator of the Royal Navy who got fired because of a bad drinking habit… on the day of the wreck, he wanted to try a new shortcut to get to Tortuga faster because he was out of Rhum. The moral of this story is that you should never trust a drunk navigator.. but if you do, make sure he’s well stocked with liquor. So here they are now, stuck on this lonely reef. Black Jim sometimes flogs his slave to kill the time and keep his spirit up while Charles dreams of Rhum bottles and keeps plotting courses the Disgrace will never take. Detailed views of 6Kyubi6's entry Captain Black Jim, flogging his slave. And here are the detailed views of my entry. The general idea behind this set is that you can combine it in several ways. The two halves of the ship are connected via a technic pin hidden in the rocks. The "Shark head" reef on the other hand can be moved around and attached about anywhere you want to the other parts thanks to the small rock connection (the one with the cross and skull). I must say that I completely underestimated the complexity of this challenge as designing the sets was only the beginning. Being able to present our idea in a convincing way turned out to be a much greater difficulty. Anyway, I am proud of what we achieved to do, I hope you guys like it! A big thanks to my partner in crime, for all his advices as well as all the picture edits. Thank you to Eurobricks for this opportunity and best of luck to all in the contest! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]

    Rock Island Fortress

[pid][/pid] 242D Hello there! happy holidays :) It's been a little while since I posted something, so here I am, with a new MOC I rarely build anything other than ships,in fact it is the first non-ship construction I make, so we can say I had a very nice (and busy) week working on this, but it was worth every second :) I based my desing on the original 6273 Rock Island Refuge, or at least that was the idea at the beggining hehe, then I felt inspired to add more and more stuff, and finally this came out, I name it the Rock Island Fortress, enjoy :) Feedback is always welcome

    Pirate Shops

[pid][/pid] 242A Happy New Year! Maybe you remember some of my earlier posts (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86979 or http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=84523). I have been able to further extend on these topics: I can present a few decent pirate shops: And the monkey shop corresponds to my announcement to present more "monkey-driven designs": The young pirate actually looks scared - understanable when facing a gorilla - but I could not really capture this... The parrot shop promises to offer the famous "Norwegian Blue" (beautiful plumage) but they seem to have run out of stock... The harbour fortress is now on the left: And, of course, you can purchase some hats: I hope you like this MOC... .. because I will certainly build some more to extend the overall set.

    Pirate Brig: The Zephyr

[pid][/pid] 147D The Tournament of Retrebution is over, it's time to lose the uniform and return to piracy But that nice first prize is getting a good spot in my cabin. The cabin of my last latest ship ofcourse, I present you; the Zephyr. A 12 gun pirate brig with a color scheme similar to that of those fancy frigates of Captain Green Hair and Bonaparte Napoleon (see Captain Green Hair's tutorial). The tumblehome technique however is my simplified version like I used before on my previous ships; (the Beauty, Merchant Brig, Barquentine and HMS Intersector). This ship started as an experiment but eventually it became a finished ship after all. (You might have seen it in my round 2 TOR entry, it had black-striped sails then). The deck of this ship consists out of brick bricks, so far I haven't seen those used for this purpose but that's probably because they aren't that great for it anyway, they make it look out of scale. I saw Legonardo using brick bricks for the walls of a cabin, that looked good. (Just incase you don't know, brick bricks have two different sides, one side are bricks, the other side are planks (how I like to call them atleast). It's an experiment, this ship has 126 brick bricks in it, I know that because it are all of my brick bricks and I bought those on only two different occasions (one being part of LUGbulk). I'm more happy with how the cabin turned out, particulary the galleries. The name is Connor (Assassins Creed reference). Sigh, my rigging really is outdated , While building this ship I've never considered it a keeper so It wouldn't have been worth the effort to equip it with costum rigging (frustrating work with ropes and knots ). But now that it's finished I kind of love it. I hope you like it, more pictures can be found in my brickshelf gallery. I will also bring this ship to Belug's yearly event; Brickmania Wetteren (4 and 5 May), along with other ships (among them the Flying Dutchman with a few modifications) and a small port (which served well as decor for my third round TOR entry), It will all be part of a huge pirate layout.

    MOMOD Queen Anne Revisited

Ho Ho Ho! (What else can I say on Christmas Eve?) Before the year closes, I'd like to show you a MOMOD (which is meant to say My Own MODification) of Lego's Queen Anne's Revenge. This was a nice ship, however, when it came to playing pirates noone in the family showed interest to play with that skull-ladden thing. So, to bring it back to life, there had to be some adaptions: So I added an upper deck (some small cannons were added too). We removed the skulls Changed some more And suddenly you have a beautiful ship! Have a wonderful Christmas time! Captain Braunsfeld

    Small Harbour Fortress

[pid][/pid]237D Hello, hello, hello! Here's something new for our favorite pirate topic: A small harbour fortress. (No monkeys in this one. The "Temple of the Monkey God" sadly did not find too many supporters... ) I have tried to find a suitable background. As you can see, I have probably not succeeded. And this is probably worse: ... well, my hobby is more about LEGO, not about photoshopping... Here some less disturbing views: The model is meant to be combined with the rest of our harbour scene (which I have not yet presented to you). The whole thing is modular: I hope you like it. I'll be back with some more nonsense, er, interesting models

    Jupiter 2.0

[pid][/pid] 155A Good evening to you all! Some time back I had presented the Jupiter, a creation of my youngest son. And you also may recall that the ship fell from his hands to turn into a pile of bricks... http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=84658 BUT: We have roughly reassembled it, then I was able to purchase a few more yellow slopes and (this time) together we have created the next version: Jupiter 2.0! :pir-sweet: I was able to help to stabilize a few parts, however, we lost some aspects which were realistic. Yes, it (she? he?) is still very yellowish and could also be extended (but that would be 3.0) but we are already sufficiently happy with the result This is where the name comes from: and here is the name: The rudder has remained: next to it there is the ship's oven. The captain's cabin: The lower deck looks like this: ... and everything is overall modular: What we had to skip were several elements, which might not be found missing in the first place: - the lower ends of the masts were found in the lower deck as well - the masts were intended to consist of two parts, which looked great but was very instable - the capstan was also removed from the lower deck: ... it might return in version 3.0. So this is our latest update, please enjoy or give us hints what to improve. Until next time Captain Braunsfeld

    WIP The Rowdy Gentleman

Hey everyone. I'm starting work on a pirate ship (Wow, I haven't built one in forever) and I'm getting back into the swing of things. I'm working in LDD right now to design it. I'm still deciding on the color scheme, earth blue or black and white, etc.? Should I tile the gundeck? I'm expecting The Rowdy Gentleman to hold 12 guns per side, not including chasers or swivels. I'm thinking she'll have a full gun deck, and then that "half" one (can't remember the correct term). Any suggestions?

  19. So, I am just in awe when I see some of the MOCs on this forum... I'd really like to get into building some awesome ships, lighthouses, and ports eventually... But I'm not quite there yet... So, what do you think a good "entry-level" MOC to make for this forum would be? I'm thinking about something that is just on the border of "advanced," yet not too complex. ~Deme
  20. [pid][/pid] 150B Ahoy mates! I be Cap'n Redshanks, mighty pirate, and for many years now I've been a regular visitor of these fine forums - but nary a post have I made. My meager collection of pirate LEGO hasn't produced much worth sharing. Now that I be home for the summer, it's time to set sail in my first completed MOC: the "Sea Chantey", me flagship. Enjoy! Most of the techniques and parts I utilized came from TLG ships, like the POTC Black Pearl and 2009 Brickbeard's Bounty. The sails are made of cardstock paper, and the reef points are (very poorly) hand-drawn. Here are some more views: A view from the port quarter. From dead astern. Dead-ahead, bow-on. A closer view of the stern. Nothing fancy here; the gold cutlasses came from the Pirate Captain in TLG's Minifigs Collection. The main cabin. Apologies for the blurry picture. The doors are a wee bit close to the mainmast, but I couldn't move the mast forward too much or else it would ruin the proportions of the ship; it'll just be a tight squeeze for the captain A closeup of the quarterdeck. See how close those doors are? I will probably change that later... Closeup of the winch over the gun deck. It can rotate in any direction. The gun deck. She can mount three guns per side, unless you clear out the cabin and stick cannons out the windows...improvisation, after all, is the art of a true pirate! A very blurry shot of the figurehead, a parrot. It seemed to fit with the aesthetics of the ship... That's it! Please leave your comments, criticisms, insults, and angry exclamations below. Fair winds and following seas, me buckos! - Redshanks
  21. Hi all, This topic is somewhat overdue, since the event was about three weeks ago... , but I'm posting it anyway! This is my display at the first ever Scouting for Bricks LEGO event from May 4-5 in Leesburg Virginia. The event was sponsored by the local boy scout troop as a creative way of fundraising. Almost 5000 people came, I think, which was a lot more than expected, and the whole thing was a great success. Several vendors including Classic Plastic Bricks and Clone Army Customs were there, as well as the 501st legion, which is a Star Wars group that goes to events such as this. The local LUG, Wamalug/Wamaltc (which I'm not a part of) also came to display some fantastic MOCs including a huge train and city set up, Egyptian pyramid course, "the way things go" type display, and much more! Being a first - time exhibitor, I wasn't really sure what I was expecting coming into this. I had been to Brickfair a couple of times before, but only as a visitor, and I just went with my brother and didn't really meet anyone else there. So suffice to say I was kind of nervous entering this event. I decided, as this was a new experience, that it would be fitting to bring a new MOC, so I spent the month before preparing a new Port for my pirate collection (a BLUECOAT one, by the way). I brought it, as well as all of my custom ships, including my Ghost of Greybeard's Bounty and Chinese Junk. The first day I was there I didn't do much of meeting people, except for the exhibitors near me, mostly as I was quite worried about leaving my MOCs alone. The second day though, I went out and met a lot of other fans, talked with a lot of visitors, and discussed the event with the staff. The second day was better . Towards the end of the event, they had a contest for best-in-show, in which I was recommended for by a few of the LUG members. I won , as they enjoyed the Junk ship best with the SNOT hulls. Anyway, that's enough rambling by me, here are the MOCs (photo quality a little fuzzy). All the photos of the event can be viewed here, here, and here. This is the entire display I brought. Aaand, that's it. Thanks for looking, and I hope you liked it.

    Sceneries

Heyho, the forums are full of beautiful Lego ship pictures, but mostly just the ship out of different views or details like rigging or the interior. What I miss a little bit is scenery, like just marine life, like reading of the Articles of War, midshipmen learning how to use the sextant. There are wonderful frigates yet; a few even called the H.M.S Surprise, so why not rebuild some scenes from Master and Commander. I would appreciate some pictures. Wellesley

    Tropical Island boilerplate

[pid][/pid]234A Thanks so much to Si-MOCS for trying to fix my crappy pics into something resembling a well photographed MOC. You're awesome mate, thanks for the tips too. This was built for the SydLUG group display currently on in Sydney Australia for a whopping 9 days. When it comes to group displays for shows, Pirates seems to be the easiest to get many people to contribute and drop their pieces in. I have done Islander islands a few times before but went with a different shape and threw in a lagoon as well. The Pirates have struck up an alliance for a share of the island's resources and a place to hide out. Hope you enjoy. PIrate Face Decals?

Forgive me if this is the wrong place for this topic, but I've had a look around on the forum, but i've been unable to find any decals for the faces of the Classic Pirates. More specifically, i'm looking for Governor Broadside, or Admiral Woodhouse, but there doesn't seem to be any faces done for any pirate minifigs. The torso library is great, but I wanna try and make the "original characters" of Classic Era pirates, but I couldn't afford buying the individual minifigs :P EDIT: My mistake... there seems to be some of the pirates, but none of Admiral Woodhouse... It's probably a lot to ask for in the first place, but I was just wondering if there is a decal of him somewhere?
