  2. Hi everyone! It's that time of year again when kids big and small wake up each morning to open a little door and find a little surprise behind it! For Lego lovers, it's especially great since they have three different advent calendars to choose from. But unfortunately, despite the theme's growing popularity, Super Heroes is not one of them. And so, I decided to make my own Super Heroes advent calendar this year! For now, I chose to focus on the DC Comics subtheme, and if it turns out well, maybe I'll do Marvel next year. Every day from now until Christmas, I will post a little MOC in this thread that I would want/expect to see in an official DC Comics Super Heroes advent calendar, most of which will be made in LDD. Please note that these will be based on the DC Super Heroes sets that have been released so far, so don't be surprised if they will be very Batman-centric. With that said, here's the build for Day 1, a micro Batmobile, based on the Animated Series version! DCSAC Day 1: Batmobile by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Here is the lxf file: Batmobile.lxf I hope you like it. Comments and criticisms welcome. Happy Holidays!
  3. Mr. Freeze is back! And no, this time he is not to freeze anyone, but to free his frozen wife Nora Fries, and let her enjoy the city like normal people. However, he must first freeze the entire Gotham first! His new machine Arctic Core is a hovercraft, and the turret-like equipment is actually a drill! Don't laugh at a non-rotatable turret because it is not really a turret, but a game changer! While it can fire freeze ray to straight-on targets, it can also freeze the ground, turning the ground into ice and letting the air drill crack the ground open. Then, his secret cryogeneration core can then be injected into the ground and let it slowly turn the surrounding into ice! Gradually, the Gotham city will finally become an ice world, where he and his wife can live forever without the cage or suit! Now Batman has to find a way to stop him! (Flickr: https://www.flickr.c...57648641659087/ ) Complete set, with Nora Fries in the cryogenics chamber waiting to be freed. The cockpit, in which Mr. Freeze controls the ship... This is the mobile mode. The two turbines (rotatable) can be flipped up and the ship can move at full speed now. Batman, run! View the ship upfront... From the side, Action Mode vs Mobile Mode The two sides of the ship are hovering devices. Moving on the ice or snow will never be a problem now... Batman this time has to deal with two villains, one of ice and one of fire. How is he going to prepare for the battle? Thank you!
  4. Last Christmas, I gave you my heart... by SPARKART!, on Flickr: I've been seeing a lot of automobiles around town sporting the Rudolph get-up with red nose and antlers, and thought ye olde Furst Batmobile Microfighter could do that, too. This scene depicts an earlier time in the bittersweet romance between LEGO Batman and Wyldstyle. The song playing on the Bat-radio is Last Christmas; Batman gives Wyldstyle a knowing wink when the refrain, "I'll give it to someone SPECIAL," is sung.
  5. I am ready for Christmas with my UCS Tumbler set. I looked at the piece chart and notice there are quite a few Technic elements. This made me think... if there are more Technic parts than regular LEGO parts, can we appropriately call this a Technic set? Much to my dismay... not even close. Using bricklink as a guide (yes, I know there are flaws with this categorization, but it is a start), I counted 443 Technic elements, not even a quarter of the Tumbly's overall piece count. But... more "Technic" that I thought... and it got me thinking. Are there any sets out there, that are not technically Technic (see what I did there?) but in reality perhaps should be according to piece count? I know a lot of the SW UCS sets have tons of Technic elements, but b/c of the overall piece count of plates etc do not qualify (i.e. have more Technic elements than regular LEGO). The old "model team" sets have lots of Technic - any one know if any of those sets apply?
  6. I decided to take a stab at the Batwing with my favorite Tron color scheme. Here is what I came up with. https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15365162154/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15800024298/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15801418299/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15801692927/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15961659636/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15801696777/ Overall, fairly pleased with how it turned out. Definitely the most ambitious build for me yet as I was essentially winging it as I was building with no real blueprints other than some images of the Lego Movie Batwing. Not 100% satisfied with the rear. Anyone have any part recommendations for a rear turbine that will hold the flames? The piece I originally wanted to use would not accommodate multiple flames so I opted for the back wheel of Wildstyle's motor cycle. The weight of the wings was the most challenging aspect as I had to design and re-design a few times on a trial and error basis to build a base that supported the wing assembly. Thanks for looking.

    Custom Batmobile Tron Style

Here is my custom Batmobile using a black, grey and transparent light blue color scheme. Built it similar to the current LEGO Batmobile seen in the Batman Be-Leaguered special. Had to design a different frame to accommodate the balloon tires. Also added storage for Batarangs and a larger rear missile area. https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15876923756/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15716678659/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15902089852/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/128866203@N08/15715442660/ Thanks for looking. MOC Bat-All Terrain Vehicle

MOC Bat-All Terrain Vehicle This is my latest MOC, a cross between a 66' Batmobile and a Tank. I was trying to think of a way to incorporate tracks with suspension that I had designed. I looked at the 66' Batmobile I had built and thought that would be an interesting project. The tracked suspension is full independent on both sides and works great. I've added all sorts of launchers and equipment, so now the villains of Gotham City have no where to hide. The storyline for the existence of the vehicle goes thus: “It’s 1968 and Bruce Wayne decides that he needs an extra vehicle to help control the villains of Gotham City. He contacts his friends at Gotham City Engineering and asks them to build him a new vehicle loosely based on the 1966 Batmobile but a major feature has to be its all-terrain capabilities.” Let me know what you think. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/87749

    [ MOC ] Firefly's Fire Lynx

Hi everyone! It has been some time since my last creation, and now I am back on track! My first task is to expand my MOC in the superhero realm, and let's do something before the official Lego Justice League sets come in 2015! "Some men just wanna watch the world burn." - Alfred Pennyworth in The Dark Knight (movie) Well, in the DC Comic world, Batman really needs to face a villain who only burns things. Firefly is a crazy man who knows all the pyrotechnics and explosive objects. This time, he comes back with even crazier toys: his new jet pack and the flame tank, Fire Lynx. Guess Batman will have a headache to capture him, as his usual suit is not ready yet for the heat! Firefly and his Fire Lynx Burn baby burn! Firefly and his Fire Lynx The Fire Lynx is a flamethrower tank, and it has four crawlers allowing it to run on different kinds of terrain. This is the overview from the front, showing the cockpit: Firefly and his Fire Lynx And the back overview, where you can see the cooling fan for the compressor area. Firefly and his Fire Lynx I also created the Firefly minifigure, which is slightly based on the game Batman: Arkham Origins. Firefly and his Fire Lynx Firefly and his Fire Lynx Firefly and his Fire Lynx Firefly's flamethrower gun can be clipped to the roof of the tank, while the jetpack can be stored at the back of Fire Lynx, between the two fuel tanks: Firefly and his Fire Lynx Firefly and his Fire Lynx I guess Batman needs to think about some special gadgets to capture Firefly. But more are coming against Batman! Stay tuned!

    [MOC] Batman Beyond Batmobile

Hello! I'm here with a new MOC! In LDD I created a Batmobile. But not any Batmobile... Batman Beyond's Batmobile. With this being a unique asset to Batman and it's an overlooked yet popular variant of the Batmobile. Yet we still haven't gotten one. That's where LEGO Ideas kicks in gear. Anyways you want to see the MOC now! Here is an areal view of the Batmobile. Clocking in at about 330 pieces. This is an unstoppable force of justice when fighting futuristic gangs! The picture I like showing off is this one. Just the main view of the Batmobile and it's glory! And here's the rear view! Thanks for looking at my MOC! Feedback would be great and so would a support for the project! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/81793

    66 Batmobile (LB3 MOC)

So after seeing the the Comic-Con footage of Lego Batman 3 I decided to recreate the 66 Batmobile in LDD. It was a long process of going through footage to discern the wide variety of pieces used in the build. The middle section was a bit harder to put together as there wasn't a lot of footage of that section being built (Plus the red chasis being used as a base was a bit of a surprise). As you can see it's not completely accurate to the game. Right off the bat the gold grille is not held in the same way, but that's because LDD won't let the clip hold the grille. Also colors don't completely match, especially the greys. Trying to differenciate shades of grey is annoying, so it's not perfect. Fortunately all the varying shades of grey are in the inside where it can't be seen on the renders. And the back! At some point I will actually have a physical model rather than just a render. In fact I'm halfway done with building it with real bricks. But it'll be a while still before it's done. The two red chasis were hard to find and I literally had to order them from another country. Interestingly enough all the pieces needed to build this actually exist with one notable exception. Unfortunately that size of mudguard doesn't come in red as of now, so it will be black on the physical model I'm building. So at some point I'll update this thread with pictures of it in the flesh, until then enjoy these poorly lit renders (It takes forever for my computer to render and I'm not going to fix my lighting mistake).

    [ MOC ] Batman's The Bat

Hi everyone, I am new to this place and great to meet all of you. I am showing this latest creation of mine here, the Bat. Many fans already did their Lego version of the Bat, but I still think it is best to follow what the movie has made. So I bought the book and started to understand what the Bat is really about. It was indeed a very great book! Inside, I got the blueprint of the wonderfully designed plane! It took me nearly two months to start building the form and the put the pieces I wanted onto the structure. This is the first draft I made, though it didn't look too good to me. The right is of course the Tumbler. But I was happy to see the back design, which followed nearly all the parts from the blueprint. It did look like the real thing. Another overview... But I was not happy about it, and it took me another month to modify it. I actually dismantled the whole thing and rebuilt the structure, which I strived hard to follow the curve of the real plane in the movie. Here is the final version, and the side elevation to see the curve body (like a lobster!) It was a little bigger than the previous version, but I think it is still acceptable. The "hands" are also the difficult part, not to say two support rod things behind it which attach to the head of the plane. I keep most of the original design for the back, but add some details. Each part can be slightly adjusted to suit the flying mode. The topmost parts can be dropped and lay flat in the "parking mode". The rear flaps are not too real enough compared to the movie, but since they are used for landing, they have to be rigid. So I decide to use the one piece brick for it, the top fin brick. This another elevation allows you to see the bottom side, which has a series of blades and a pair of propellers (or should I called choppers?) The two windows can be opened, with top one upwards and the front one pulling outwards to the front. (just like in the movie) Two people can be seated inside too. One set complete! Ready to go to fight crime! Done! Thanks for reading! :D I hope you enjoy this! *** Edited on 2012-12-22 some more photos, which show the size of the plane compared to the tumbler in a better angle... ***

  25. This year is not only the 6th anniversary of the Eurobricks Reviewers Academy, but also Batman's 75th Anniversary! Therefore, it only makes sense that TLG chose to give out a version of Batman from the Dark Knight's long and rich history as one of their exclusives at the San Diego Comic Con this year, and I was lucky enough to get one. But is it a good minifig? Is it worth buying for ridiculous prices on the aftermarket? And what the heck is Zur-En-Arrh? Let's find out! To the Bat-review! Set Number: SDCC036 (on Brickset) Name: Batman of Zur-En-Arrh Theme: DC Comics Super Heroes Subtheme: Batman Pieces: 6 Year of Release: 2014 Availability: Given away at SDCC 2014 on Saturday, July 26 at 12:30 pm. The Package The package is the same clear plastic clam shell with a bubble for the minifig as all the other exclusive minifigs from this and last year. It features a nice stylized picture of the minifig in the background and the "San Diego Comic Con International 2014 Exclusive" logo in the lower left corner. The back features the address of the Super Heroes product page on Lego.com and the usual small print. Like last year, the card board insert is folded and includes a picture on the inside. However, this year the picture is not a backdrop to display the minifig on, but instead it's a mini-poster of the minifig. While it may not be as useful, the stylized illustration of Batman of Zur-En-Arrh does look pretty cool. I just wish it would have depicted him in a more interesting pose than just angrily standing in the rain. The fact that it looks like he's wearing purple diapers doesn't really help. The Minifigure And here is the minifig itself. He is quite a friendly-looking fellow, isn't he? His costume is bright and colorful. Why? . It's great to get Batman's cowl in a new color, and this is the only Batman aside from the Electro Suit one to receive leg printing. I still don't understand why TLG is being so stingy with those. It's disappointing, though, that they changed the cape from a purple Batman cape (as seen in the official image above) to a regular one. What you may not know is that there are actually two different versions of Batman of Zur-En-Arrh. The first one appeared in a comic in 1958 titled "Batman - The Superman of Planet X!" in which Earth's Batman is transported to a planet called Zur-En-Arrh where he gets Superman-like powers. Yup, that happened. This sort of what-if story was actually quite common for comics in the '50s. This story was later adapted into an episode of Batman: The Brave And The Bold. Anyhoo, once Batman arrives on Zur-En-Arrh, he meets that planet's version of Batman, a scientist named Tlano, which is who this minifig is based on. Image courtesy of the DC Comics Database The second version appeared in Grant Morrison's "Batman R.I.P." storyline in 2008, after the DC Multiverse got rebooted. This was a much more gritty take on Batman of Zur-En-Arrh. I didn't read the comic myself, so all my knowledge of it is based on what I read about it on wikis and reviews of it, so don't quote me on this, but basically, this is a version of Batman who has gone off the deep end. He got druged and brainwashed by an evil organization so that his mind shuts down when he hears the trigger phrase "Zur-En-Arrh". In order to protect himself from this, he creates an alter ego called the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh by removing the Bruce Wayne part of his mind, leaving only a crazed Batman who runs around the city violently hunting down the criminals that tried to destroy him. So yeah, perfect material to base a Lego figure on. Image courtesy of DCU Comic Book Reviews In order to represent both versions, TLG was generous enough to give this minifig a double-sided head, one side with the Tlano face, and the other with the crazy Bruce Wayne face. Also, this is the first SDCC exclusive minifig to get an accessory, not counting Bard the Bowman since he's not really exclusive. The Bat comes with, well, a bat ironically, which is one of the weapons that he used to torture and defeat the villains with. The fig also has some nice back printing. You can clearly see that in one of the pockets in his utility belt, Batman of Zur-En-Arrh is carrying the Bat-Radia, which is a nice touch. The Bat-Radia is a device that can issue electronic molecules that cause controlled disturbances in the atmosphere - or just an old radio that can override Arkham's security system - depending on which version you're talking about. Here is a look at the head without the cowl. Tlano's face is pretty much the usual Batman head, except with a big happy smile, which fits the campy tone of the comic that he is from. Bruce Wayne's face on the other hand is very different. This one features a stubble and a maniacal snarling mouth. What I especially like is that his headband is tattered, which fits the grittier look of this version of Batman of Zur-En-Arrh and is a nice touch. Final Thoughts: I think this is a perfect Comic Con exclusive. It's a fairly obscure variation of a popular character that only true comic fans will know. And it's a character that we have gotten more than plenty of in normal sets, so unless you really want this particular version of Batman, there are many other ways you can get the Dark Knight. Plus it's a great way to celebrate the Caped Crusader's 75th anniversary. It is a very nice and detailed fig, and the fact that you can switch between two versions of the character with the flick of a wrist makes it especially awesome. My only gripe is that they used the wrong kind of cape, but it doesn't detract from the fig too much and the fact that they included an accessory kinda makes up for that. The packaging is nice too, although the mini-poster is kind of pointless. The only ones who would actually use that poster are little kids, and only about 1% of these sets will probably land in the hands of kids unfortunately. Still, it's better than nothing I suppose. This was a great souvenir to take home from SDCC, but if you didn't get it at the convention, I would only recommend buying it if you are a hardcore completist or a huge fan of Batman who actually knows what Zur-En-Arrh is. And no, you can't have mine, sorry. That's all there is to say about it. To conclude this review, since bashing in bad guy heads is too violent for Lego's usual standard, here is a more kid-friendly scenario to play out with Batman and his Bat-bat: Batterman by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr I hope you enjoyed this special review, and tune in for my next review - same Oky-time, same Oky-channel!
