  1. I made a few minifigs in LDD of characters that I wish Lego would produce, although there is very little chance it would ever happen. Any guesses as to who they are (other than Wicket, of course)?
  2. With the arrival of the new Tydirium set, I know most of you will not be impressed with this creation, however I am pretty proud of how it came out because the actual set, even though its certainly looks more detailed, is way too big compared to the rest of my collection and I already have all the SW vehicles I would ever want and wont deliver my self to the hype of buying just about every updated version of what I already have because it doesn't fit the scale (they are not actually to scale but don't look oversized or dwarfed beside each other). I always wanted to have the official set released back then but never could manage to get it, I eventually got a landing craft but it was way below my expectations, so I dismantled and rebuilt it multiple times until I got some other useful bricks that helped me to complete a custom version of my cherished ship, later I made some improvements and finally completed this build to achieve the size and sturdiness I wanted, its still not perfect but is quite close to what I had in mind and can sit beside my AT-AT and some old modified TIE fighters without bothering me (I am a little obsesive, you know ). 03 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 05 by Nom Carver, en Flickr The cockpit is basically the same of the landing craft, I tried some other designs of cockpits but non stud up to my requirements of seize and shape, however this one flows with the fuselage good enough. 14 by Nom Carver, en Flickr The dorsal wing is also held tightly thanks to some ideas borrowed from the T-16 and the Tydirium, I would have used white beams but grey will do fine for now, and this also helps to break the white monotony. 15 by Nom Carver, en Flickr The side wings swivel very swiftly but are tight enough to keep them in position. 12 by Nom Carver, en Flickr It also features a turret on the rear and access to the interior with room for the emperor and one royal guard, it could fit even four troops with slight mods but I like it just like it is. 07 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 09 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 10 by Nom Carver, en Flickr Comments and criticism are welcome, I hope you liked it.
  3. The millenium falcon, being such an iconic ship is a must have for any collector but it has always featured the same significant flaws: non retractable landing gear, useless boarding ramp (its not like the figs will actually get in there that way but you know ), and tiny flimsy little quad blasters, so here are my solutions to such issues: 25 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 26 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 20 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 21 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 22 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 23 by Nom Carver, en Flickr 24 by Nom Carver, en Flickr I can go deep into details if I see any interest, by the way, this is the 2004 one.

    [SWEU] - Cat. C - Sh'tk'ith

"Be glad! The joy that we bring goes beyond mere sensory happiness. Yours is the privilege of assisting the Ssi-ruuk in liberating the other worlds of the galaxy." ―Standard greeting broadcast to planets prior to a Ssi-Ruuk invasion. “Hello There..!” Sh’tk’ith was an Elder Male Blue Ssi-Ruuk who held much Power in Ssi-Ruuk Society Book: The Truce at Bakura By: Kathy Tyers For the sake of my fingers, I will refer to him as Bluescale Bluescale was a Ssi-Ruuk who along with Firwirrung (I didn’t build him, but I may in the future…) was responsible to study the captive human, Dev Sibwarra. Bluescale was a hypnotists, so he was able to keep Dev inline during his captivity. Bluescale, of course, has blue scales as part of one of the upper classes of the Ssi-Ruuk society. The nickname Bluescale came from Dev. Sibwarra killed Bluescale aboard the Shiwirr during the Bakuran Incident with a ‘paddle gun’. Main Front Backside Without the ‘Paddle Gun’ Detail Picture 1 More pics in the spoiler! Wookiepedia Link: Here! (No, I totally didn’t copy some of the text in the first paragraph. ) I really do hope someone else enters Category C…I mean other than that ship that’s in the wrong place of course… I think if no one enters category C, someone should move this out of the contest area or something, I just feel like an insta-win isn’t exactly fair but I'd gladly take a prize! I just contradicted myself, oops..., etc… Building Notes: The nose took ages, I went through about 10 different styles and ways of doing it till I settled on this one. I took various inspiration from various builders who build at this size for just a general idea of how to build at this scale. (And because I considered making a Dev too…) Also, I really wish those binocular parts came in blue, but they were the only way I could get 2 claws without making it super thick. The ‘Paddle’ Gun isn’t exactly the best, as I didn’t put too much thought into it, so please look past that fact. and I thought it’d work either way. Anyways, hope you liked this build! C and C welcome as always! Oh, wait, Bluescale wants to tell you something, I’ll let him say that at the end. ~Beltar “Good Bye!”
  6. Remember that ship that had two lines in The Truce at Bakura? No? Well here it is: The Tinok-F Patrol Cloud Car Manufactured By: Bakur Repulsor Corp The Tinok-F had two pods (duh) one for a passenger or gunner, and one for the pilot. It could fly up to 50 meters and could reach up to about 950 Kilomeers per hour. Usually only needed one to fly it, but it was good to have an extra navigator. Originally these patrol cars were unarmed, but when the Imperial Occupation came, civil unrest followed forcing the police force to equip them with armor plating and weapons. Governor Nereus insisted an addition of a full-spectrum audio and video sensor, including a scrambled comlink transmission. Imperial patrol troops also used these vehicles. Main Pic “A double-podded local patrol craft streaked out of the hazy sky and landed close to the Falcon, two Bakuran enforcement officers sprang out, steering a repulsor litter between them.” Pilot Pod…with Beltar Pilot Main Pic 2 “A double-podded security craft swooped toward him. He dove out of the traffic lane, into a canyon between tall buildings and groundcar ramps. His pursuer followed, firing erratically. Han braked, swooped into a narrow alley, then jinked an Immelmann up-and-over back out into the cany0n. Security sped into the alley, passing beneath him. Han didn’t see him fly back out.” Gunner Pod…yes you can see I forgot to change one part before taking photos…oh well… The Center Part with the listening device that Governor Nereus insisted on putting in. Backside More Pics in the spoiler! Here’s how the Truce at Bakura Sourcebook describes it: Patrol Cloud Car Cloud cars are the traditional vehicles of local enforcement agents assigned to control traffic in and around Bakura's capital of Salis O'aar. These double-podded vehicles are considerably faster than most airspeeders and quite reliable. While patrol cloud cars were unarmed when Bakura was free of Imperial rule, the arrival of Governor Wilek Nereus brought about much civil unrest. Faced with two armed rebellions and several purges, Bakuran police forces had no choice but to equip their cloud cars with armor plating and laser cannons. At the insistence of Governor Nereus, the craft were also equipped with full-spectrum audio and video sensors (for listening in on and watching suspicious Bakuran citizens), while a communications scanner is capable of intercepting comlink transmissions and detecting jamming and scrambled communications. Imperial patrol troops use identically prepared cloud cars, but they can also call on military airspeeder backup if confronted by an unruly mob. In any event, the bright yellow and red patrol speeders are an unwelcome sight to the many Bakurans who fear Governor Nereus. Wookiepedia Link: Here! (I didn’t copy a whole lot of lines from the page again… ) Good luck to all who entered this contest and I’m glad it was extended one day otherwise I’d have to have wrote this at 10pm. Anyways, hope you enjoyed this build! C and C welcome! ~Beltar

  8. From The Jedi Academy Trilogy 3 - Champions of the Force At a temple on planet Yavin 4 where Luke started training his apprentices a spirit of an ancient Sith lord Exar Kun managed to get Luke's spirit out of his body. He then tried to posess the students to destroy Luke's body which lied in a deep coma at the temple Grand Audience Chamber. It was the padawans who united in a fight and drove the evil spirit away allowing Luke's spirit to return to his body ... A big thanks to MKJoshA for shedding some light into my poor EU knowledge and suggesting a few scenes I could build! Here's the list of characters:

Both parts of the build are connected on a hinge. [sWvsM] - Cat. A - I'm the ANT-MAN! I had a lot of fun making this one, especially the giant stormtrooper legs. This was my vision as soon as the contest was announced, so I'm happy to see it come to fruition. I hope I win, but good luck to all the participants and thanks to MKJoshA for setting up this wonderful competition!

    [SWvsM - Cat. B - Merc Team-Up

One second, War Machine and Deadpool are fighting it out inside the Helicarrier, the next second, they were on a dusty planet known as Tatooine. Deadpool could tell nearly instantly with his 4th wall breaking powers, that Jango Fett was another merc! And so the team-up began against Qui Gon Jinn, who was investigating a wanted criminal (Jango Fett) on Tatooine. Deadpool took Qui Gon, because he had a sword, and Jango took War Machine, because only he should have a bucket helmet. (Overview) Jango uses his grapple to tie War Machine’s arms to his sides, but it doesn't work! War Machine then uses his repulsors to try to get out of it! Deadpool: You know, it’s always a pleasure to work with another Merc. Jango: At least you’re helping… Deadpool: That’s not nice! Do they have chimichangas around here? Jango: I got some deathstix in my ship… Deadpool: Wait! This is Star Wars! Isn’t it! This must be because Disney owns Lucasfilm and Marvel now! Jango: You know what? Just shut up and fight for now… Deadpool fights Qui Gonn after his blaster gets tossed to the side by the force. (Overview 2) Kind of a fast build...since a lot of the parts came from my pile of tan part which was once a building... This will be a prequel to my Category A build. And yes, this has Classic versions of figures…since I don’t have a flesh Qui Gonn… You can’t really see Rhodey’s face, and Deadpool wears the mask…so I think it works. Hope you enjoyed! C and C welcome! ~Beltar
  12. SECRET WARS™ BUM BUM BUMMMMMMMMM The Multiverse is destroyed all that is left is...BATTLEWORLD™ Starring the best merc ever Deadpool ~Deadpool Hold it tiger, did we just hit the jackpot? I mean did we land two Sercret Wars™ titles? Because if we did Marvel™ is going to be rolling in a %#@& of money. WAIT A MINUTE I CAN'T SAY %#@&? What kind of book is this? A book for kids? You wrote me into a book for kids. THANKS OBAMA. Okay continuing onto the main story. Here I am fighting some %$@ in the farmlands of New Tatooine City, a domain in Doom's battleworld whose baron is none other than Emperor Thanostine, named Boba Fett. What kind of guy has a name of Boba? Is he a clone or something? The Day started off just fine, me eating chimichangas and watching some classic Bea Arthur. My idiot sidekick Stormtropper Bob juggling thermal detonators as I aimed my future gun I gifted myself from cable at him and the gunfire of Jawas stealing everyone's toasters. There's a knock at my door so I go answer it. Next thing I know I'm dead on my welcome mat with my body covering the walls following an explosion from a thermal detonator. I wake up to see that Bob left me a note saying he is never coming back, and that my precious Bea Arthur collection is missing. My phone rings and a raspy voice says "Come to the farmland by the Galactus Pit if you want to see your Bea Arthur videos unbroken." I respond "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you." "Good Luck" I head to the desert to find that #%^@ I was talking about "I hear that you think you're the best merc in the galaxy, but I think you're mistaken. Fight me and we'll find out who the better merc is." "I'm gonna go medieval on your @$$" We then began fighting, me with my future gun and lightsaber I picked off of some old guy creeping on a teenager, and him with his wimpy gun that looked like a pistol with a candlestick attached to it. Beknownst to all of us, but unbeknownst to Boba it was his destiny in all universes to be anticlimactically eaten by giant holes with monsters in him, and this universe is no different. He was grabbed and eaten before my mines were able to blow him up and create blinking stars just like I saw in that one cartoon, but this fight proved one thing, I'm the best around, and no one is ever going to tear ME down.

[SWEU] - Cat. A - The Truce At Bakura

I'm glad that MKJoshA added this to the book list. I chose what I thought was the most iconic scene from the book and incorporated as many details as I could from the pages such as the glass floor, the foliage on the walls, the two guards outside, the yellow jar of fruits, the Ice Mountain in the center of the table, and even the clothes that the people are wearing. *Spoiler Alert* If you haven't read the book, just look at the pictures from here, and the last couple lines that are not in italics. If you want a small synopsis the events leading up to this build, read below: The Truce at Bakura By: Kathy Tyers No sooner has Darth Vader's funeral pyre burned to ashes on Endor than the Alliance intercepts a call for help from a far-flung Imperial outpost. Bakura is on the edge of known space and the first to meet the Ssi-ruuk, cold-blooded reptilian invaders who, once allied with the now dead Emperor, are approaching Imperial space with only one goal: total domination. Princess Leia sees the mission as an opportunity to achieve a diplomatic victory for the Alliance. But it assumes even greater importance when a vision of Obi-Wan Kenobi appears to Luke Skywalker with the message that he must go to Bakura—or risk losing everything the Rebels have fought so desperately to achieve. Even as the Alliance arrives, the aliens have almost overcome the Bakura Imperial garrison, whose desperate commander will accept help from any quarter—even Rebel—against an insidious foe that enslaves Human minds to pilot their invincible machines of war and destruction. While marshalling the tattered Imperial forces, Luke, Han Solo, and Princess Leia must win the trust and cooperation of the Bakurans. For although Imperial Governor Nereus has granted the Rebels temporary amnesty there is the possibility of treachery among those whose first allegiance lies with the Empire. On the eve of the final explosive onslaught, Rebel and Imperial forces must finally come to terms with each other…or lose the entire galaxy to the hideous servitude promised by a victorious alien enemy. Capturing the sweep and excitement of the original Star Wars saga, The Truce at Bakura plants a seed of hope for peace, sees the formation of a timeless love, and stands witness to a Jedi's undying sacrifice to defend Humanity against an alien nemesis. My Version: Main Picture "They caught up with Leia at the entrance to a dining hall surrounded by interior trees with dangling, drifting branches. More vine-covered white stone walls enclosed the trees, and at their center he spotted a table that was roughly triangular, with its corners blunted for extra seating. Then he looked down. Blue-green water rippled beneath the room's transparent flooring. Underwater lights cast a small moving shadows of fish and an occasional long, snakelike creature. Finally, amid the table stood a miniature mountain range delicately carved from some translucent mineral and lit from inside like one of the rain pillars. Tiny blue rivers trickled down its sides." ... "Trees along the vine-covered walls raised their branches like arms." ... "Human servants scurried away from the table-he had yet to see a droid anywhere-probably having to rearrange seating to accommodate Chewbacca. Captison escorted Leia to a spot next to himself along one side, Madam Captison took the other chair on that end. An elderly man, wearing a voice box on his chest-Senator Belden, Luke realized-already sat next to her on that corner. "Just beyond him, dear," she told Chewbacca. Luke grinned despite his distraction. Dear wasn't a term he'd have applied to a Wookie." The Dining Room "Flanked by a pair of troopers in black uniform, Governor Nereus strode to the third corner of the table and sat down." ... "The liquid clung to the glass like syrup. "Go ahead." She raised an eyebrow. "It's not toxic Our finest local product. You're insulting Bakura if you refuse." She poured herself an equal portion and drank it down. He sipped. Liquid turned to fire and burned his mouth and throat. Then he caught its flavor, like intoxicating jungle flowers mingled with the sweetest fruit he'd ever tasted. Her eyes sparkled. Obviously, she hadn't missed a nuance of his reaction. "What is it?" he whispered. He cooled his mouth with a sip of water. "Namana nectar. One of our chief exports." "I can understand why." "More?" She reached for the carafe again. "Thanks." He grinned. "But no. That's a little strong for my taste." Gaeriel laughed and filled his goblet anyways. "There's likely to be a toast soon." .... She passed him a transparent dish of yellow-orange candies. "Maybe you'd prefer tasting namana fruit this way." "Habit forming?"..."All the best fruits in the galaxy are habit forming. Be careful."....He decided to leave the candies alone-... The Truce being agreed upon. "That [a message from an officer] was a personal communique from Admiral Prittick of the Fleet. You might as well hear it." His strident voice took on a knife edge. "His message confirms the Rebels' claims. The second Death Star has been destroyed, and Emperor Palpatine is presumed dead...as is Lord Vader. The Fleet is regrouping near Annaj." ... ..Governor Nereus shook his head. "Princess Leia," he said, standing up at his place, "if your troops are willing to cooperate with mine, under truce, we need your help." Leia's shoulders straightened. "An official truce, Your Excellency?" "As official as I can make it" That sounded evasive to Luke, but evidently it satisfied Leia. She stood and extended her hand. The massive bracelet shimmered on her wrist; it seemed to add the weight of many star systems to her handclasp. This was a long strectch for both sides, literally and figurativleyy. For the first time-ever-Rebels and Imperials would fight a common enemy together. Nereus engulfed her small hand in his gloved, meaty one. Then he lifted his goblet. "To strange alliances." Everyone follows...etc...needs cooperation....ect... The Dining Room 2 Side View The Imperial Officer who delivered the bad news. Left to Right: Imperial Officer, Guard 1, Guard 2, Beltar Server Left to Right: Senator Belden, Gaeriel Captison, Tiree Captison, Uncle Yeorg Captison, Wilek Nereus, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca More Pictures inside the spoiler! (Because I take too many… ) Hope you liked it! It was fun to build. Even with the new camera, some of the pictures turned out a bit fuzzy, I think it was my lighting… If you've read the book, how accurate do you think it is? 15. Hello EB community! My entry for the SWEU Contest (Category: Interaction) is the Tsoss Beacon Conference from the novel "Darksaber" by Kevin J Anderson. In 12 ABY, Admiral Natasi Daala called the remaining 13 warlords to Tsoss Beacon in the Deep Core in order reunify the warring Imperial factions. Among those present were self-stylized Superior General Sander Delvardus, High Admiral Treuten Teradoc and Admiral Blitzer Harrsk. When the warlords refused to cooperate, Daala gassed them and took command of their forces. You can find details on Wookieepedia: http://starwars.wiki...l_Reunification My vignette is based on this illustration: Daala reenacts a scene from her favorite movie: Goldfinger The Warlords don't match Harrsk, Delvardus and Teradoc because I didn't have better minifig-heads. Also, I placed Daala and Gilad outside the conference room because Lego doesn't make gas masks, I hope that can be seen as artistic freedom. 18. Hello fellow AFOLs and Star Wars fans, I really like Brick Comics and in the past I made several one panel Jar Jar parody ones. You may have run into them here on EB This time I made an actual Jar Jar inspired parody comic story (19 pages and 76 panels). It's the first chapter in a series and I'm already planning the next chapters and even spin offs. Allow me to present you: "War of the Space Teddies. Chapter 1: First Contact" It may looks simple but it took me a lot of effort to make this comic. I even spent time in editing the photos of each panel to create better/more realist light conditions etc, so if you like the story or if you have any feedback feel free to post your comment. It means a lot to me to hear your opinions I hope you'll enjoy this story. May the Brick be with You

    REVIEW: 7141 Naboo Starfighter

In honor of the impending marketing bonanza that The Force Awakens will inevitably inflict upon the world, I'd like to take a trip back in time. Just imagine... it's 1999: the release date of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is dawning. A new Star Wars movie? Can you believe it?! The trailer had everything you could ever dream of: heated space battles, a demon with a double-bladed lightsaber, a young Obi-Wan Kenobi, a little kid, a cartoon rabbit... oh, wait. So on May 3, 1999, the entire population of the Earth was subjected to a marketing campaign unlike anything ever seen before (or since). Star Wars was everywhere! Everywhere. And in the immortal words of little Ani, "it [was] working!" I apologize, that reference was a bit of a stretch. So anyways, put yourself back into the shoes of your younger naiveself, before May 19, 1999 - before the deepest core of your being was challenged by The Phantom Menace. The Naboo Starfighter was the first in the new line of LEGO sets based on the film to be revealed, teased in a little catalog included with the early 1999 releases. As the catalog suggests, it was "so wizard, Ani." * (*Is the slogan "It's so wizard" an early reference to Episode I? Or was that just a random coincidence?) This tease blew me away as a kid. But did the model follow through? Was it wizard? Or did it suffer the same fate as the film it was based off of? Without further ado... Name: 7141 Naboo Starfighter Year: 1999 Pieces: 179 Minifigures: 4 RRP: USD $19.99 Links: Brickset, Bricklink 7141: Instructions Scan by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr PACKAGING I don't have any of the packaging for this set anymore, but I can extrapolate from other sets in the line that the box was rectangular and included a slide-out cardboard tray. Boxes in this era were a double-edged sword. On the one hand, the cardboard trays were a wonderful way to store parts and had a classy(ish) feel. On the other hand, the actual boxes were extremely flimsy and cheap in comparison. They were paper thin and ugly shelf wear was almost guaranteed (even with the utmost care). The actual graphic on the box/instructions portrays the scene where Anakin finds himself trapped inside the hanger of the Trade Federation doughnut. Subsequent versions would stray from this and instead focus around the blaster fight in Theed Hanger. The classic LEGO Star Wars logo is beautifully nostalgic - it's a shame that this type of logo was abandoned for the post-2001 releases. (Courtesy of toysperiod.com) The back of the box is typical for the classic line. On the left the figures are building the model. How nice of the Battle Droids to help little Ani and R2 out. Or they could be disassembling it. Whatever. The right showcases two alternate models: a racecar and a mech. Unlike the larger sets in the classic line, a comic highlighting various other alternate models is not included at the end of the instruction booklet. 7141: Instructions by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr The 1999 Episode I wave is curious in that it does not show screencaps from the film in the instruction manual like the first OT wave did. This is most likely because Lucasfilm wanted to keep Episode I a mystery... even though they released a novelization for the film on the same day as the rest of the merchandise. Later, the 2000-2001 sets would add in the screencaps. Something else of note: the little graphic behind the step numbers changes based on what you're building. Nifty! MINIFIGURES The set includes four minifigures: Anakin, R2, and two Battle Droids. Below I'll highlight some fairly wizard details about each. 7141: Anakin Skywalker by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr 7141: R2-D2 by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr 7141: Battle Droid by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr THE CART 7141: Cart Build by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr The build begins with this little tan cart for the Battle Droids. It's quick, only 10 steps, and it isn't too complicated either (unless you consider a two-piece hinge mechanism complicated). But there's a nice selection of parts here, including a tan 4x4 wedge (which is exclusive to this set!). 7141: Cart by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr The final product is... interesting. I don't really understand it and I don't remember it from the film, that's for sure. In a previous review by Mischa07, a user posted that it could be seen in the background somewhere. I can't confirm nor deny this claim as I haven't gone frame-by-frame through The Phantom Menace (because I value my sanity). If someone could provide a screencap to solve this sixteen year-old mystery, it would be most appreciated. Taking the cart by itself, I suppose it's a decent enough model. The top hinges up to reveal two printed 1x4 tiles which represent the engines. There's an awkward bare black bracket on the back (I'm proud of that sentence). I thought maybe it could serve as a gun rack by putting the handle into one of the hollow studs, but alas, it doesn't fit. So it's useless. Without any context to what this cart is or what it's supposed to do, this is the best I could come up with: 7141: Cart (2) by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr People probably didn't buy this set for the cart, though; they bought it for the real meat: THE NABOO STARFIGHTER 7141: Starfighter Build by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr The build is just as memorable as the cart's which is to say it isn't. It's a lot of stacking plates and slopes. There is one clever building mechanic used, however, which will be covered later on. Now some may label me something along the lines of a "hatorz" for my opinions on the prequels, but I'd like to think they're fair and balanced. Not everything The Phantom Menace did was terrible; in fact, one thing it excelled at was ship design. Doug Chiang deviated from the utilitarian and practical design of the Original Trilogy and instead (at the behest of ol' George) opted for a beautiful hand-sculpted look. The Naboo Starfighter is a great example of this: the craft is truly majestic in its simplistic, natural elegancy... 7141: Front by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr ...and the LEGO version is not. The shape of the Naboo Starfighter is very dificult to capture in this medium, and in 1999, LEGO's parts catalog and engineering was nowhere near sophisticated enough to pull it off. Most of the early Episode I sets suffered from the same problem:while the OT's angular vehicles were perfect for the simple and blocky design philosophy of the era, vehicles from The Phantom Menace were too complexly rounded. Now, keeping all that in mind, let's delve into what works and what doesn't: 7141: Dynamic Front by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr The model is accurate enough to be recognizable, but it has some flaws. Namely, it’s far too stubby; the back of the nose should really be extended by a few studs so the cockpit and the rest of the ship is shifted further back. It just doesn’t manage to capture the sweeping, smooth hood of its source material, no doubt due (in part) to the twin trans-green cones meant to represent the laser cannons. They look out of place and break up the flow. I see what the designer was going for, but I would’ve preferred additional slopes with a print of the barrel. I recognize that a fourth exclusive print is a lot to ask for in a $20 set though. 7141: Side by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr Moving farther back, we arrive at the cockpit. The printed parts provide some much needed detail and bring a modicum level of believability. I hate the use of 4x3 yellow slopes. A nice part to have, sure, but they bring an unnecessary width to the midsection. 7141: R2 Slot by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr Behind the cockpit is a slot for Ani’s Astromech aid. Unfortunately, while the “real” ship covers the droid up to the dome, the model leaves R2 almost entirely exposed. It’s extremely awkward. But, to be fair, although later versions have come close to achieving this effect, none have been completely successful. 7141: Cockpit by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr Inside the cockpit, things start to look up again. I love everything about the interior. It might be simple, but something about it feels real to me - I think it’s the consistency of the color scheme. Having recently bought its 2015 successor, I can say for certainty that the 1999 version’s cockpit is superior in almost every way. 7141: Dynamic Back by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr This is by far my favorite angle. It (mostly) hides the lack of length and the jagged slopes, and emphasizes its relatively smooth tapering on the engines and main section. For 1999, it’s rather impressive. 7141: Engine by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr The engine tails were accomplished using a simple but effective technique: a black technic bar is inserted into the end of the engine and allows for the 2x2 cylinder to be placed in the opposite direction. 7141: Bottom by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr Finally, we go below the ship, revealing another misstep - a confusing misstep as it sort of adds to the model in a way. This odd missile construction looks like garbage when the fighter is in the air (where it’ll be most of the time during play), but when it’s on the ground, it produces a nice levitating effect. It’s extremely flimsy as well; I imagine it would be a nuisance to kids who want to play with this thing. FINAL THOUGHTS 7141: Complete Set by montgomery.cloud, on Flickr All in all, this is a decent set… by 1999 standards. The Naboo Starfighter has already been remade three times... so which version should you buy? Well, it all depends on what you’re looking for. Are you a classic LEGO Star Wars fan? Do you have an odd fixation of the hype leading up to The Phantom Menace like me? Then you most likely have this set. Do you want an accurate representation of the ship? Are you interested in dozens of pointless side builds? Then there’s an excellent version in stores now that I wholeheartedly recommend buying. The point I’m trying to get at here is that you probably own this set if you have any interest in it. But, if you’re a relatively new collector with an open mind (and an open wallet), there’s a lot to like here. It’s one of the cheapest ways to get Anakin, there’s some Battle Droids to add to your collection, and most importantly, the Naboo Starfighter is arguably the most iconic vehicle from Episode I. If you’re looking for a set to represent the first wave of Episode I products, then look no farther: this is the set to get. It isn’t accurate, even considering the time period, but it’s charming. FINAL SCORES Playability – 8/10: This thing has everything you would want in a play set. I suppose instead of a useless cart LEGO could’ve given the droids some sort of attack vehicle. Minifigures – 10/10: Everyone integral to the scene is represented here. The battle droids are wonderful (and the set includes two!). Design – 7/10: Apart from the flimsy missile, the model is very sturdy. My issues mainly lie in the aesthetics of the Starfighter, which are just “okay” even by 1999 standards. Price --- 10/10: $19.99 for a ship… a cup… a ship… a speeder… what a bargain! Overall --- 8/10 And with that, this review has been concluded. If you’re nostalgic for the good ol’ days of hilarious Episode I speculation or just extremely curious like me, then check out the links below. I hope you enjoyed the review as much as I enjoyed writing it (which I did not). Be sure to tell me what you think of the set and my review of it. I'm a big boy, I can take the criticism. Probably. 21. This is my latest exhibition model, it was displayed at the Star Wars event in Legoland Germany a couple of weeks ago. For everyone missing it, I gonna show you these pictures. And you may read the backstory based on the comic "Crimson Empire". After Palpatine's takeover he built an elite exademy on the barren planet of Yinchorr, to train the best soldiers in the galaxy - The Royal Guards. Only the hardest could stand the training. In the year 4 ABY the Empreror himself and his scholar Vader visited the academy to put the recruit's abilites on a test. At he fighting pit named "The Squall" Vader was fighting against the best of class Burr Danid. Beating him was no problem for him, and instead of showing mercy, he pushed his opponent down the squall. Thanks for your feedback, greets from Disco
  22. Review: XSZ General Grievous Clone brands aren't usually very creative. Most will simply copy an official Lego design, others will create lackluster custom designs. But sometimes, there are diamonds in the rough. XSZ, a Chinese brand, usually make duplicates of official Hero Factory figures, but they also produce some custom CCBS designs, including those fascinating Ninjago Ultrabuilds. But what I recently purchased from them is something a lot of you may recognise from a CUUSOO project of old; A figure of Star Wars character General Grievous. In light of Lego's official Grievous figure's reveal, lets take a look at this other company's take on the four armed frenzy. Packaging Yep. A zip lock bag. I ordered two copies of the set (for reasons I'll discuss later), and they both came bagged up like this. However, I did choose to buy them without the boxes, as doing so cut down packaging costs to the point where postage was free. But, this restrained packaging did cause some issues. Parts Parts are where this kit really shine. As you can see, there is a plethora of CCBS bones, Technic parts and more. But what will catch most people's eyes is those tan shells. The tan does indeed match Lego's shade very well. However, brief warning about XSZ's shells - the peg holes on these are tighter than on Lego's, so softer pegs like those found on armour addons will get worn down when used in them. I'd only use harder plastic things, like T-Bars and older spike pieces, with these. Also, as you can see, the cape is severely creased. This is due to the restrained packaging. It's easy to fix, but terribly annoying either way. The torso and chestplate are fascinating. I'm not sure whether the tan details are painted or printed, but they really do look the business. While the chestplate's pegs are a little loose, it's still invaluable to have such a generically styled print. The head is probably the only major let down with this set. While the mold is great, the prints and sad eyes make for a very weird face to give to a villainous four armed warrior. However, there's an upside - the head connects to the model using a dark bley Glatorian head piece, which is absolutely fascinating and could serve to be very useful for many builders. Also very peculiar, these friction joints... Without the friction. While XSZ's sockets are pretty damn strong anyway, they still included a pair of these with this model. They're the same as Lego's... Just without the little rubber nubbin on the inside. Very odd indeed. Build Ignoring his worrisome face, Grievous looks very imposing, and is actually a lot of fun to build. The arms are well laid out, and give plenty of room for Grievous to swing his lightsabers (which are simply solid plastic dowels) around. The torso prints really shine when assembled with everything else, although I do feel like the gunmetal is a tad unnecessary. The legs are standard, but do the job of capturing Grievous's gait very well. From the back, Grievous is largely obscured by his big red cape. This thing is made from a very similar material to that of the older minifigure capes, but with one plushier side on the outside. The creasing caused by the packaging could likely be ironed out. Apologies for the haphazard photography here, but I just wanted to show off how Grievous's body is put together. The upper set of arms connect to this XT4 torso, and the cape is pegged on to two Technic connectors near the neckball of said piece. This works beautifully, and is also a nice, cheeky way of getting another XT4 torso to add to your collection. Other notes As I mentioned earlier, XSZ's socket joints are very sturdy - sturdier in fact than Lego's. There is a downside though: XSZ joints can only pivot to around 90 degrees in a hinge joint. However, using a Lego bone in an XSZ hinge is just as normal. The plastic quality is absolutely fine, although the bone pieces are more matte in texture that Lego's, and the Technic pins and axles are a lot more lightweight than Lego's. Again as mentioned, the peg holes in the shell pieces are much tighter than Lego's so it might be dangerous to use official armour addons with them. Pros and Cons Pros: Fun build Tan CCBS Great selection of parts Lovely cape Good looking, vibrant lightsabers Unique prints on the torso and chestplate Cons: The head is disappointing The capes are likely to come creased The lighsabers wobble somewhat The upper arms don't quite have as much motion as you might like So, does this General Grievous tantalise your taste for tan? Or will you be waiting for Lego's official kit, coming out this summer? Either way, you can find this set on AliExpress, with free P&P. I'd say that this is worth buying two of, so as to get lots of that amazing tan, but even one of these guys is still a grand selection of goodies to add to your CCBS collection.
