  1. For the Glory of Corrington! (GoC) - A Faction Enduring Challenge Sometimes it can be difficult to find inspiration for a build or choose a direction for a storyline. Well, fear not fellow Corlanders, here is some direction for those times when you need it! The following are a set of faction endorsed cooperative building tasks to inspire and guide you on your journeys through Corrish territories in Nova Terra. GoC General Rules Builds for GoC tasks should be posted in their own thread with the tag [GoC]. You must also provide a link to your build in this thread. A progress list will be maintained in the second post of this thread. Quality - This should also be an opportunity for you to improve your building skills, so take your time and focus on quality. When presenting your build, designated members of Corrington will award you a if they feel it passes quality standards. Don't worry, we will of course take into account collection size and experience. If some minor adjustments are required, these will be suggested. Two from the reviewers are required for the build to officially count towards the challenge. It is recommended you do not de-construct your build until you receive the required from reviewers in case it requires some adjustments to pass these requirements. - By submitting an entry you agree to receive feedback from the reviewers and will accept their judgement on the matter. - All tasks have a minimum size requirement of a 20x20 (400) stud footprint (or equivalent - irregular bases are permitted as long as they meet the minimum 400 stud footprint). - Other individual requirements will be listed in each task description. Builds that do not meet the task requirements will be rejected. - Only builds posted after 1 January 2019 may count towards the GoC challenge. - Current reviewers @Ayrlego @Captain Dee @Bregir @SilentWolf @LM71Blackbird @evancelt Rewards - Complete any of the below tasks to earn the corresponding IC title for that task for one of your characters. All tasks consist of a minimum of three separate builds (entries). Some tasks will stipulate the subject of each of the three builds and may require them to be posted in a specific order. Others only require three separate builds that meet the requirements. Please read the requirements for each task carefully and ask any questions in this thread. - Each subsequent entry in a task must be significantly different from the last and should attempt to show some kind of improvement from the last, for instance using different techniques or changing the subject matter. NB: In some tasks, there might be specific requirements for the three builds defined. The idea is to glorify our faction, so you should strive to do the best within your own limitations and be proud of every GoC build. Clone builds rushed to complete tasks will not be accepted. - Complete three tasks (total of nine builds) for your main character to become a Knight in the Order of Corrington (OC) and the right to style themselves 'Sir' and use the post nominals OC. eg Sir Fredrick Mercury OC. - Complete six tasks (total of 18 builds) for your main character to receive a honorary Baronetcy within the Corlander nobility. Your new title will be announced by Royal decree when you complete the requirements. An example may be something like: Sir Fredrick Mercury OC, Baron of Feltham - Complete nine tasks (total of 27 builds) for your main character to receive a honorary Earldom within the Corlander nobility. Your new title will be announced by Royal decree when you complete the requirements. An example may be something like: Sir Fredrick Mercury OC, Earl of Finnsbrough - Complete twelve tasks (total of 36 builds) for your main character to receive a honorary Dukedom within the Corlander nobility. Your new title will be announced by Royal decree when you complete the requirements. An example may be something like: Sir Fredrick Mercury OC, Duke of Rhyeshire - Nobility titles will only be awarded to Corlanders. Foreigners are welcome to participate in any of GoC tasks and will be awarded the corresponding title if they complete an individual task; however, they will not be eligible for ennoblement. - A list of tasks is provided below. They do not have to be completed in any order and new tasks may be added from time to time as faction priorities change. GoC Task List 1. Redcoats Rule! Background: The mighty Empire of Corrington is built on several foundations, but perhaps one of the most iconic is the bright scarlet coats worn by her soldiers. With dogged stoicism, Corlander redcoats face the harshest of conditions, are unmoveable in defence and relentless in advance. The sight of the redcoats of Corrington will always strike terror in her enemies! Goals: Show us your redcoats! Requirements: Build three scenes showing soldiers of the crown going about their business in the colonies. Your build must showcase faction troops, preferably redcoats. They could be training, parading, maintaining weapons, guarding supplies, fighting dastardly pirates or treacherous natives (and winning of course!). Alternatively you may choose to build a military building (fort, barracks, armoury etc. Just remember to include plenty of redcoats!). There is no EGS requirement for this task. Your combined builds should display at least two different branches of the army; for example, infantry, cavalry, artillery, engineers etc. Title Awarded: Patron of the Army 2. The Oaken Shield Background: The backbone of Corlander power in Terra Nova is the Royal Navy. Royal Navy warships hunt pirates, raid enemy hideouts and settlements and keep trade routes open. Goal: Ensure Corlander Naval supremacy in Terra Nova. Requirements: Build three warships for commissioning in the Royal Navy, one for each of the three naval armament schemes, Gunboats for the Colonies, Sloops for the Royal Navy, and Cruisers of Terra Nova. A requirement of this task is that the completed build is handed over to the faction for licensing and deployment. Title Awarded: Master Naval Shipwright 3. The Merchant Marine Background: While the Royal Navy has been prominent in keeping the sea lanes of Terra Nova safe, the Corlander Merchant Marine has seen a slow but persistent demise. We cannot allow this decline to continue. Goal: Build up a significant fleet of merchant vessels to bring home the riches of Terra Nova. Requirements: Build three merchant vessels, one if which is offered to the Crown. These vessels should be licensable in the EGS, and must meet the following requirements. In total, your builds must make up a minimum of 12 shiplevels. One ship must be small (class 1-2), another medium (class 3-5) and one large (6+). Additionally, one build should be a historical or exotic rigging type (eg. xebec, longboat, felucca, junk, cog, carrrack, proa, polacre, etc.), one should be a fore-and-aft rig (eg. schooner, sloop, cutter, lugger, etc.), and one should be a square rigged vessel (eg. brig, snow, ship-rigged, galleon, etc.). (The predominant rigging type on a vessel determines the category) Rigging types and sizes can be combined freely. Title Awarded: Shipping Nabob 4. Purser's Network Background: The 'Oaken Shield', or ships of the Royal Navy need shore based support to be able to function and carry out their roles or defending and expanding the Empire. The fleet operates several major Naval bases in Terra Nova and these require constant expansion. Major fleet bases include Arlinsport, King's Harbour, and Port Woodhouse. Goal: Build an extensive naval support and logistics network for the Royal Navy in Terra Nova Requirements: Build a series of three scenes showing how the fleet is supported from ashore. Your scene must be in one of the settlements listed above and must be licensable in the EGS. Ownership must be transferred to the faction. Each of your scenes must be a different EGS licence type. eg. Artisan, Commerce, Factory, Education etc. Some examples could include: Naval hospital, quays and cranes, armoury, ropeyard, sail maker, powder mill, cannon foundry, tavern, cartographers, various industries for provisioning, powder depot, recruitment office, training facilities, storehouses, etc. Title Awarded: Master Purser 5. Higher Education Background: Corrington is known as a bastion of knowledge and learning. Science, mathematics and literature all flourish under Corlander patronage and Corlander schools and universities are world renowned. Thus it is only natural that this passion for education is transferred with Corlander settlers in Terra Nova. Goal: Display Corlander supremacy in the field of education and knowledge in Terra Nova. Requirements: Build a series of three scenes showcasing Corrington's commitment to knowledge and science in Terra Nova. You can complete the following three subtasks in any order. There are no set locations for these tasks. 1. Build a scene showing some aspect of education for children of the colonies. The build must be licensable as an educational property under the EGS rules. 2. Build a scene showing some kind of vocational training in a specific industry or field. For example, a college for engineers or cartographers, an academy for military officers etc. The build must be licensable as an educational property under the EGS rules. 3. Build a scene showing a place for research or higher learning. Examples could include an agricultural research institute, a university college for theoretical mathematics, a chemistry or botany laboratory etc. The build must be licensable as an educational property under the EGS rules. Title Awarded: Patron of Knowledge 6. Sweet, Sweet Corrington! Background: One of the major premises for Corrington settling the new world was access to areas suitable for the growth and harvesting of sugar cane. The settlements of Stormhaven, Port Raleigh and Jameston all have burgeoning sugar cane industries, but the demand in the old world for sugar is insatiable. Alternative sources to cane sugar have even been investigated in Mesabi Landing. Our sugar industry must be expanded! Goal: Expand Corrington’s grip on the sugar industry in the new world. Requirements: Build a series of three scenes in any of the three main ‘sugar’ settlements (Stormhaven, Port Raleigh or Jameston) showing some aspect of the industry. Your three scenes may be in the same settlement, or can be spread across all or some of them. Alternatively one of your scenes may be exploring other sources for sugar (Agave or Stevia) in Mesabi Landing. Your scene could be anything from a plantation, to the storage and processing of the raw product, or any of the products derived from sugar (eg. Rum!). Your scene must be able to be licensed in the EGS. Should you not wish to license it yourself, you may sell it or the faction will purchase it. Title Awarded: Sugar Kingpin 7. Chocolate and Coffee on Cocovia Background: One of the first islands settled by Corlanders in Terra Nova, Cocovia was so named for the abundance of Cacao plants that grow naturally on the island. Indeed the chocolate industry on the island now has a solid foundation and the demand for chocolate in the old world requires extensive expansion. The island is also thought ideal for the cultivation of coffee, although coffee plantations and industry have yet to be established. Goal: To establish monopolies on both chocolate and coffee for Corrington. Requirements: Build a series of three scenes showing the either the chocolate or coffee industries in Quinnsville or King's Harbour. Your scenes must be able to be licensed in the EGS. Should you not wish to license it yourself, you may sell it or the faction will purchase it. Your scenes must be built in the following order and the properties must be constructed in either the settlement of Quinnsville of King's Harbour. 1. Your first scene should show the growing of the raw product (coffee beans or cocoa beans) and must be licensable as a plantation under the EGS rules. 2. Your second scene should show some aspect of processing the raw product. It must be EGS licensable as a factory. 3. Your final scene should show the production or sale of the final product eg. A coffee shop or chocolatier. It must be EGS licensable as either a commercial property or artisan. Title Awarded: Colonial Cafe King 8. The Lotii Connection Background: Port Raleigh hosts a sizable Lotii community – the largest of any of Corrington’s settlements in the Brick Seas so far. These industrious arrivals have quickly adapted to live in the colonies; however, they have also transported much of their home culture with them. Many of their buildings are built in the style of their ancestral home and they have bought with them their traditional artwork, crafts and festivals. NB. The Lotii are based on a generic East Asian culture and previous depictions have displayed both Japanese and Chinese characteristics. Goal: Display Lotii culture in Port Raleigh Requirements: Build three scenes showing inhabitants of Port Raleigh with Lotii background. Your build should display some aspect of traditional Lotii culture which has been transplanted into the settlement. Examples could include teahouses, Japanese style gardens, porcelain production, Oriental style buildings or restaurants, fireworks production/sellers, street festivals etc. There is no EGS requirement for this task (although licensable builds are encouraged). Title Awarded: Honorary Lotii 9. Equines for Elizabethville Background: The rolling plains of the island of Lacryma are ideal for the breeding of horses, indeed some of the finest horses in the new world are from Elizabethville! Goal: Expand the equine industry in Elizabethville Requirements: Build three scenes showing some aspect of the breading, keeping or export of horses in Elizabethville. Examples could include a ranch, stables, racetrack, blacksmith specialising in shoeing horses, saddler, wainwright etc. Your scenes must be able to be licensed in the EGS. Should you not wish to license it yourself, you may sell it or the faction will purchase it. Title Awarded: Purveyor of Thoroughbreds 10. Daily life of the Myzec Background: The Myzec are loosely based on the Aztec civilisation and inhabit the city of Myzectlan, located in a hidden valley on Cascadia. They primarily farm maize, sweet potato and beans in 'floating island' plots or chinampas on Lake Myzec. The meat in their diet includes fish and water fowl/turkeys and dugout canoes are used to transverse the lake. Very few mammals are farmed in the Myzec valley although there are some pigs and goats. They weave cloth from goat wool and produce leather from animal hides hunted outside the valley. A basket ball type game is a very popular recreational activity. They ferment an alcoholic ale from maize. Goal: To expand the lore of the native people in the lost city of Myzectlan on Cascadia. Requirements: Build a three small scenes showing the Myzec people conducting activities from their day to day life. Some examples may include: Farming a chinampa lot, milling maize grain, making tortillas, fermenting ale, fishing, trapping ducks, repairing fishing nets, making canoes, warriors training, producing mud bricks for construction, weaving cloth, tanning hides, hunting in the jungle, making jewellery/pottery, ball games, etc There is no EGS requirement for this task (although licensable builds are encouraged). Title Awarded: Friend of the Myzec 11. Strategic Outposts Background: Some of Corrington's settlements in Terra Nova occupy vital strategic positions for the defence and expansion of the Empire but have little commercial value - they exist primarily to protect Corrington's interests. Hence these settlements tend to be smaller and more military focused. To maximise their strategic importance, they require extensive naval bases, army barracks, fortifications and logistics hubs. Currently, these include Hussar's Isle and Port Woodhouse. Until such time as more purely military outposts are created, the commercial hubs of Spudkirk and Port Raleigh, together with the developing settlements of Wullham and Brickford Landing; which all also occupy strategic locations, will be included in this task. Goal: To build up the network of Corlander strategic defences in Terra Nova. Requirements: Build a scene showing a building of strategic value in each of these important locations. Your building should be military in nature and examples could include: fortifications, quays and cranes, naval storehouses, army barracks, munitions stores and factories, etc. Your build must be licensable under the EGS rules and the ownership must be transferred to the faction. To complete this task you must build one scene in both Hussar's Isle and Port Woodhouse and a third scene in either Spudkirk or Port Raleigh. Title Awarded: Strategic Mastermind 12. Mangrove Madness Background: The settlement of Stormhaven was founded on the Isle of Serentia in the only safe port for over 400 miles. Unfortunately, despite the excellent shelter provided for ships, the location is not ideal for a settlement. Stormhaven cove is covered in mangroves which are almost impenetrable in many places. Properties within the settlement limits are build on stilts above the mangroves and raised wooden walkways provide access between properties. Further inland building is possible on land and some plantations and other properties have been established. Goal: To expand the settlement of Stormhaven Requirements: Build a series of scenes showing the unique aspects of life in Stormhaven. 1. Build two scenes showing buildings within the settlement limits. Your buildings must be in the style of the settlement ie. they must be constructed on wooden stilts above mangroves. Examples (one, two, three). Your scenes must be able to be licensed in the EGS. Should you not wish to license them yourself, you may sell them or the faction will purchase them. 2. Build a scene showing a rural property outside the settlement limits. Your scene should in some way support the settlement, for example it may be a plantation or farm, a lumber yard etc. Your scene must be able to be licensed in the EGS. Should you not wish to license it yourself, you may sell it or the faction will purchase it. Title Awarded: Swamp Magnate 13. A New Haven Success Story Background: The Eslandolan and Garvian invasion of the Isle de Medio left thousands of Mardierian settlers homeless and facing starvation. Corlander efforts to assist were met with fierce resistance from Eslandola and the resulting Nova Malto crisis was resolved by shipping large numbers of Mardierian refugees to the Corlander island of Alicentia for resettlement. Thus the settlement of New Haven was established, populated primarily with Mardierian refugees from the Mardierian-Eslandolan/Garvey conflict. Goal: Assist Mardierian resettlement in New Haven Requirements: Build a series of three scenes showing Marderian refugees settling down to life as Corlander citizens in New Haven. Your scenes must be build in the following order and the properties must be constructed in the settlement of New Haven. 1. Your first scene should show a Marderian family arriving in New Haven, show their initial lodgings and introduce their backstory (where did they come from, what did they do? Did any of their possessions survive? etc. Your build must be licensable as a residence or artisan under EGS rules. 2. Your second scene should show your Marderian Family starting work or establishing a business in New Haven. Maybe they establish a plantation (the Isle de Medio was famous for citrus plantations), or are they a master artisan who opens a workshop? Your scene must be able to be licensed in the EGS. Should you not wish to license it yourself, you may sell it or the faction will purchase it. 3. Your third scene should show your Marderian family celebrating or expressing their culture in their new settlement. Marderian culture is loosely based on Mediterranean cultures such as Italy, Greece or Spain. Perhaps they are celebrating a Marderian holiday, or preparing a traditional Marderian meal. The choice is yours! There is no requirement for this scene to be licensable under the EGS rules. Title Awarded: Humanitarian Hero Additional Temporary Tasks 14. Bastion of the East Valid until 1 Jul 23 or Queenston achieves City Status - whichever comes first Background: Corrington has long coveted the large island known as Arlintina at the far east of the known map. Finally, a small colony has been established on the southern coast of Arlintina. With vast open floodlands perfectly suited for sugar cane cultivation, rumoured mercury deposits and a bay large enough for ships of all sizes, Queenston is full of potential! Goal: Grow Queenston into a self sustainable city from which to project the glory of Corrington! Requirements: Build 3 properties that show Queenston as a growing settlement (must be licensable under EGS rules). Of the 3 builds, you may keep 1 as a personal investment, but 2 must be sold to Corrington : 1 to Queenston; and 1 to the Crown. There are no property size limits, Corrington will pay ×2 the licensing fee for the purchase of your builds. All builds must respect Queenston's aesthetic (see settlement page for examples/inspiration). Tag @Ayrlego in builds to be donated to the crown. 1. As a new settlement on promising land, people from all corners of the Empire have moved to Queenston in hopes of a better life on the new frontier. Build a property that shows what the daily life of these pioneers may look like. 2. Queenston's location offers great access to open floodlands perfect for sugar cultivation. Build a sugar cane plantation to exploit this resource. 3. Queenston is the most easterly settlement of the great Empire of Corrington. What lays beyond the eastern horizon, no one knows. To the south, war with the Lotii rages. Build a scene showing some aspect of the military defences of Queenston. Examples of suitable builds could be a barracks, supply depot, training facility, foundry, military docks etc. You build should include the glorious redcoats of Corrington's military as a major feature. Title Awarded: Queenston Pioneer
  2. FREE TRADERS ASSOCIATION The Free Traders Association (FTA) officially began operating in December 617 in response to aggression towards legitimate free trade fleets. Fatigued from the tyranny of the tired monarchies of the old world, many colonist had come to the islands of the Prio and Sea of Thieves looking to start anew without the oppression of the aristocracy. While they prospered initially, the attempts by some old Kingdoms to exert dominance of the trade lanes required the banding together for mutual protection. At a tavern in the Garvey's colony of Freeport, a number of ship Captains met with a delegation from Charlatan Bay to sign an accord of mutual defense and profit sharing. With its headquarters in the free port of Charlatan Bay, the FTA warehouses serve as a clearing house for legitimate (and not so much) goods traveling between the Prio Seas colonies and the Old World. At the same time, its surprisingly well-armed trade convoys travel between colonies insuring a steady supply of needed goods. 3. Colony Name: Free City of Charlatan Bay Ownership: Sea Rats Location: Infero Pordejon, Sea of Thieves Island Description: With 50 to 200ft High cliffs on all sides, and an active volcano that gives off smoke more than a couple times a year, this small island his highly volatile. An eruption in '618 was felt as far away as Nelissa. This seismic activity has led some to believe that there is gold to be mined in the cliff regions of this island. A large native tribe lives on this island, and they are rumored to be hostile. Colony History: The colony of Charlatan Bay is a free port and city-state located on the island known as Infero Pordejon. The main town itself was founded at the top of the cliffs overlooking the bay, but over time a warren like community has sprung up by the docks along the cliff base and this haven serves pirate captains and smugglers both looking to resupply their fleets and as source of miscreants for their crews. After the death of its founder, the colony found itself under Mardierian military control, though every day governance was the purview of a civilian mayor. With the eruption of the local volcano in May '618, the colony closed its port and fired on all foreign vessels trying to make landfall. Now under new leadership, this self-imposed curfew has been lifted. The colony presently hosts the headquarters of the Free Traders Association. <More details below>

  5. It's been a long time coming, but i finally present my first ship moc, the Andromache. Equipped with a set of 7 sails and a broadside of nine 18 pounder cannons, the Andromache’s speed and maneuverability coupled with her firepower, makes her a dangerous opponent even for bigger ships. However in order to obtain such a high firepower while maintaining it's speed, compromises were made : The ship has very little cargo space which affects both her range and crew size. But that is of no concern to Scarver, as her main purpose will be to serve as escort or to hunt down enemy ships around Corrington Settlements. While sailing to Spudkirk the Andromache fell upon some rather unlucky Lotii raiders ---------- I'm very pleased with how the ship came out, it's based on the french Cutter "Le Cerf" from 1779. A special thanks @kurigan for pushing me in the right direction while building the ship She will be licenced as a Class 4.
  6. After Colonel Allcock spotted an unknown Man O’ War anchored off the east coast of Arlintina, Captain Scarver received orders to help secure the island and protect the construction of the settlement. Ordinarily, the Admiralty Board would have sent a Royal Navy warship to deal with such a threat, but preoccupied with the Lotii, they had none to spare. Anticipating a hard fight, Scarver had his frigate armed to the teeth and transferred all 3 of his (after weeks of pirate hunting, now rather small) crews onto his ship. But before leaving Spudkirk he had the cargo hold filled with supplies for the new settlement, including 8 pigs and 12 chickens. They sailed down the southwest coast of Arlintina where they eventually spotted Allcocks camp. After going ashore, Edward was met by Captain Gregor Forrester, an officer of the 12th regiment of foot. “Edward Scarver, welcome! I have been waiting for you. Follow me, I’ll get you up to speed on the situation.” As they walked up the camp he continued, “Colonel Dirk Allcock has designated a prefered location for the construction of our colony, he is currently there overseeing her construction. My orders are to stay here and keep a lookout for any ships, friends and foes. The Man O’ War was spotted about 5 days north of here, the ship flew no colors and there were no men ashore, but she was large enough to inspire us to change direction and head west instead.” “No colors you say, that’s never a good sign.” “You can certainly say that again. Your orders are to head East and meet up with Allcock at the sight of the settlement. You’ll stay there and protect the camp until we gather more information about our unwanted visitors.” “You don’t want me looking for her?” “Nay, we can’t risk her sailing into the settlement while you’re off on a wild-goose hunt on the other side of the Island. Besides, I have my best men looking for her as we speak. If she comes anywhere near the camp, we’ll know, and we’ll have you to intercept her.” “I understand, my men and I will do what’s needed, you have my word.” “Glad to hear it. The colony is on the south-eastern side of the island, I'll draw you a map of what we know thus far. It should take you about a day and a half to get there, but I suggest you head back into open water, the coral reefs on this side of the island don’t mess around.” “All noted Captain, thank you. We’ll leave at first sunrise tomorrow, my men could need a good night's rest. We brought supplies for the colony, is there anything you’re in need of? Something tells me it’s been a while since you were last resupplied.” “Much obliged, I’ll give you a list. Oh and I almost forgot, a name has been chosen, the settlement is to be called Queenston. Long live the Queen!” ---- Just a small build to progress my characters story

  8. The Grandall’s were the owners of a wealthy trade company in Eslandola. The company had been passed down for generations, but throughout the years, as trade grew in the new world, the companies who refused to expand disappeared one after the other. Antonio Grandall had watched his father run their company into bankruptcy. When he finally took over, he gained the trust of enough investors to maintain the company alive and relocate to the city of Punto Sur. Since then he has become a strong competitor who, despite being at the head of one of the smallest Elsandolan Trade companies, is both respected and feared by his opponants. If there is one thing you can say about Antonio Grandall, there's very few things he won't do to achieve his goals... On the company's most recent voyage, a portion of the profits had not made it back to Ponto Sur. Something Grandall can't let his investors know, but not to worry, Antonio will get his money back. ---- Excuse the bad picture quality. I realise you barely see him on the picture but Antonio Grandall is the man sitting behind the desk, the man with the money poutch is an investor and the poor captive is a member of the crew who kept part of the profits.
  9. Monthly Free Build Registration Thread July 1st, 2016 to August 1st, 2016 What is this thread? This is the thread where YOU register your free build, besides submitting it via the webform. So, why are we doing this again? This thread is both an index of builds so that they may be easier to find for members, and a backup for the Economic Game System. As a back up of Free Builds and MRCA builds, we won't be using this thread for calculating your account. Please remember to submit the form for your Free Build or MRCA build. What do I need to do? Simply write the following information in a NEW post: Name of MOC linked to the thread | Name of Builder | Faction you belong to IE: Smuggler's Cove | Kai NRG | Eslandola Write no more. Note: All free builds must have their own thread, and there must be a link to that thread provided here. After you are finished making a thread, make sure to report your free build via the monthly webform so that you can get credit for it! Remember, if this build is going to have an Economic Game System component (IE you are going to buy a license and make money off the property) you will need to fill out either a Property License Form or a Ship License Form. Do not comment on builds in this thread, please do that on the MOC’s own thread. Can I just post in my faction thread and leave it at that? Um... No. Can I put up an entry for another faction member's build? If that builder has disappeared and we are getting near the end of the month, this would be allowed. What if I can't remember if a submitted a build? If you don't remember submitting a form, use the Free Build Entry List to find out what builds you've already submitted. An email will be sent containing a list of all builds submitted. Spelling is important. Is this just a copy of GoH's free build registration thread? No! I don't have any idea what made you think it is. The idea was a completely original one and has absolutely nothing to do with GoH's one. (Yes, actually it is ) Why does this look a lot like the previous ones? 10. Here's my entry for the sandcastle challenge, cat a As Sean approached the Little Shack, a man with a huge mask on came out of the door. The mask was red, green and white, and it was carved into a fearsome visage. As the masked man approached Sean, it spoke in a rumbling voice. 'Drink? You want drink? I have rum? You like rum? I have many drink? Sean took a sip from the rum it had offered him. It was good rum. The man started speaking again. ' You know ' it said,' Further along beach many people build castle from sand. You build too?' Sean considered it. Yes, he thought, what harm is there in building a sandcastle. 'Yes' . He said. 'I will'. OOC I probably won't licence it, but I can if I want. @Professor Thaum
  11. It is a bright, clear day. Across the calm warm sea, a small rowboat slowly travelled along the sea. In it sat two men. 'She' s small,' said Sean Greybeard, to Quatermaster Jack Galsworthy. ' She maybe small, but she's manoueverable.' Climbing carefully out of the boat, Sean and Jack surveyed the ship, Sean's first command. For once in a while, He was Proud to be a Sea Rat. The Cutter Sea Wench is my Free Class 2 Vessel. She is armed with 4 18 pounder carronades and 4 3 pounder swivel guns. woohoo! I'm so happy! I can post photos now! She'll soon be licensed. Edit: She's licensed as a class 2 warship.
  12. The Yellow Skull Fleet was notorious for always being on the move. But even so, replenishing stores and replacing crew requires putting into port, even when no friendly harbour was to be found. In those cases, the fleet command relied on a system of bolt holes found across the archipelagoes. One such hideout was found along Archer's Bight, on the western shore of the Island of <censored>. A series of sea caves was used as a cache and rest stop. The elusive spot proved quite useful, except when food stuffs were spilled. That tended to attract ants. ===/===/=== This represents a secret hideout I will be licensing on behalf of the Sea Rats (black flag version).
  13. July 620: Island of the Amazons It has been years since the death of Emil Meloche. That one shame of mine. I, sworn to protect him, had failed. My honour was stained the red of blood that fateful day. But now there were rumours on the wind. Pawns were being shifted and there was movement in the shadows. A note had arrived offering a chance of redemption - the Lord of Whispers was calling me back. I no longer find peace here amongst my sisters. I must prepare to return to the seas. My ship is nearly rebuilt - soon it will be time to rejoin the long war. xxx/xxx/xxx/xxx So to my very pleasant surprise, my brother @Gulagurag has come out of retirement and decided to build with me again this month. He of course has forgotten his EB password, etc. (though he never really liked the whole publishing process anyway). Sorry @Ayrlego; I am guessing this is about to complicate your life. This build serves as both his re-introduction to BoBS and a sistership MOC for the Dreamchaser class 7.
  14. July 27, 620: Chateau D'Ouennes, Acropolis, Island of Pharos Mr. Robin Lloyd, formerly of Charlatan Bay I presume? This is a rescue. Please do not resist. The Lord of Whispers is most interested in meeting with you. He is quite earnest in fact, and sent his newly rebuilt flag ship to speed you back to him. Now if you would collect your meager belongings and follow me, we can avoid any more... unpleasantness. ===/===/=== This is will serve (very obliquely) as the sister-ship MOC for the Hand Fate II - class 8. @Ross Fisher I took Robin back. Thanks for watching him for me.
  15. July 26, 620: Admiralty House, Calisto, Kings Island Admiral! Sigh. What is so important Lieutenant... erm... Fernandez (was it?). You are interrupting my enjoyment of an afternoon's glass of port before my whist game at the officer's mess. I did say I was not to be disturbed, did I not sir? Yes Admiral DiCosta, but we have just received a report regarding pirate activity. The captain of a fishing trawler claims to have seen the sloop Marvel off the coast. Poppy cock! The Marvel was sunk back in December 618, and no one has seen it since. In fact no one has even seen the Yellow Skull fleet in some time. I'm sure they have come to a bad end and saved us the trouble of dealing with them, regardless of what that troublemaker Cadiz has been blathering about. But Admiral, the captain was quite adamant that her lines looked sim... Fine! On what bearing did the fishwife say it was sailing? Eastward sir. There, you see? Even it is true, it is sailing into that Lotus - Carno - Corrington fracas and beyond our reach. So relax Lieutenant; I'm quite sure Mardier has nothing to worry about. ===/===/=== This will serve as the sister-shipping MOC for the Marvel class 5 sloop.
  16. After deadline version: - darker text - greener ESL arms - black SR torso Previous update: (text) (no text) Thanks all who have contributed with suggestions! If you've got any more let me hear 'em! Original post: Here's my take on a banner so far! I would really like some minifigures on it. Guy's Uncle seems like a logical candidate for Eslandola, I'm going to try to photograph him today on a nice white background and edit that. However I need some from other factions. So if you've either got a good, solid color background photo of a well-known Corry, Sea Rat, or Oleander lying around already or are willing to take one for me, I'd be grateful! And of course, any suggestions are welcome. Is "the" too hard to read? Should I go textless and fill up the extra space with minifigures? How's the dual color effect for the sigils? C@C appreciated!

    Captain Flint Intro

Abandoned by his parents at birth, he grew up in the streets of Corrington. At the age of 9 he stole a piece of bread from a bakery but he got caught and the owner chased him. He ended up running to a dead end, the fat man arrived shortly after. He stopped, looked at the boy, and with an evil smile on his face he slowly approached the young boy. Scared for his life he tried to climb on the wall beside them to escape but to no avail, the baker pulled him down and threw him in the mud, he grabbed a piece of wood and lifted his arm ready to strike the boy with all he had. But suddenly a man shouted " What is this madness!" he approached them, the man had an officer's uniform, he was clearly part of the Royal Navy. The officer passed the baker and went right for the boy. He went down on his knee and examined the boy, he then presided by telling the baker he could go away but the baker held his ground. He told the officer, "This is a thief and you have no right taking my justice away from me!". The officer slowly stood, you could clearly see the baker regretted his choice. The officer turned around, looked him dead in the eye and knocked him out with one quick punch in the face. He turned his attention back to the kid and asked him where his parents where, he didn't answer and had a sad look on his face. The officer quickly got the message and asked another question, "What's your name then boy?" again, no answer. Shocked the officer told him one last thing "Well, from this day on, your name is Edward and you will be a student in the naval academy". Edward became one of the best students in his class and at the age of 16 he was a lieutenant on the HMS Poseidon commanded by non other then the, now Admiral, who once saved him. His name turned out to be James and he had been like a father for Edward ever since they first met. At the age of 23 he became a captain of a frigate called the Endeavour. He went on many missions during his career and fought many battles. During battles he was known to take every risks necessary to win and often ignoring the superiors orders using his own strategies. Of course it goes without saying that he got his fair number of punishment due to his actions, but they never seemed to be to severe as his strategies never failed. One day Edward got the task of safely delivering a Lord to his new colony in the new world. On the way they got ambushed by pirates. The Lord out of fair wanted to raise the white flag and give up the ship, Edward knowing he could beat them ignored the Lord and ordered the gun crews to load the cannon. The Lord in panique, cursed at the captain and told him that if he didn’t obey him, he would regret it! At this point Edward had had enough and he struck the Lord and ordered the men to lock him in his cabin. Of course they won the battle and he delivered the Lord safely to his plantation. But at his return to the capital he immediately got arrested. The Lord had sent word to the government that Edward had struck him and refused to obey his orders, and that he would stop all business with Corrington if they didn’t execute Edward. Luckily James managed to convince them not to execute him. They instead stripped him of all his belongings and banished him from Corrington. Edward, a changed man, sailed to the new world onboard a merchant ship. He went to Bastion, and met a quartermaster of a vessel who had just lost their captain, he took a couple of drinks with the man, but then the man asked him he’s name, Edward didn’t answer, he thought about a story he once heard the cook of HMS Poseidon tell the crew during his time as lieutenant. The story of a man who came from the sea and only referred himself as Flint before vanishing in the water once again. The quartermaster asked again, and he simply answered “Flint”.Due to his charisma Flint managed to become captain of the crew within only 4 month. He renamed there ship The Vengeance and set sail to the Lords colony. He came at night and let the cannons rain fire upon the plantation. They then raided the entire estate but Flint didn’t care for any of the richese, he came for one reason and one reason only. The Lord begged for mercy he offered more richesse then anyone had ever seen! The crew smiled and thought they would become even richer, but without saying a word Flint slaughtered the Lord where he stood. The crew didn’t follow him because of his charisma anymore but out of fear. Overall Flint is very charismatic, shrewd and ruthless. He uses fear to lead others, and is fearless himself. ------------------------------------- Sorry for the long Intro. For those who didn't get it my character is inspired by Captain Flint in the Amazing show Black Sails.
  18. Episodelist: Episode I ~ Samson Brody < you are here Episode 2 ~ Fonticulus Episode 3 ~ A Blessing in Duisguise Episode 4 ~ The grotto's Episode 5 ~ Captive of the Mardierians Main characters: Alfie Fraunces, Sea Rats Samson Brody, unaffiliated scientist Captain Le Faou & his comrades Corrington naturalist turned privateer, whom will be discovered in the coming episodes! "Gold? Here on the Crag? This is surely nonsense Samson. You came all this way to find.. to find what exactly?" A stern sea-rat coxswain told Samson Brody in Alfie's Place while drinking heavily: "How do you plan on finding this lake anyway? It'll take weeks to even map this dreadful rocky island." "What a pity, you are not the man nor do you have the stomach to lead an expedition.", Brody told the first mate irritated. "Gold?"~ Alfie Fraunces joined the two, who where enjoying themselves in his cafe. His men already told him about a Corrington-looking dandy who arrived in The Sereen Cay. "Alfie my name is. Welcome on the Crag. You where discussing?" Alfie spoke in Arlinsport dialect, the place Brody originated from as well. Hearing a fellow countrymen Brody answered: "A man of the fatherland, I hear! A fine establishment you run on this island sir. Very nice to meet a countrymen in a place so far from civilization indeed. I was just narrating the chances this island has to offer!" "Here we go again.." said the first mate before sipping his last bit of Trappist beer and leaving. Alfie was quickly interested and invited Brody to his office upstairs. There the two spoke about the legend of the Corrington Naturalist turned Privateer who was last seen on the Rock. The Naturalist was, according to Brody, and old friend of him years back on the university of Arlinsport. The story goes he left this earth and his treasure in a secret cave inside the Rock. A cave hard to find and harder to leave... Since the surface of the Rock was very difficult to enter and to investigate, Brody needed more men. "Hard to enter. Harder to exit. The perfect hiding place for a lifelong earned stash of gold mr. Fraunces! We will surely find whatever is on this island together!" smiled Brody. Little did they know, someone was eavesdropping... The uninvited guest of the conversation knew Alfie was up to something. And this particular pirate was know as capt. Le Faou. Le Faou and his crew where waiting for their ship: which was being repaired in The Sereen Cay after the tsunami in Mesabi Landing. "Listen up boys. We are bored out of our minds here. Today I passed by the cafe and overheard Alfie Fraunces talking to a real fancy lad. I swear they are up to find something and I intend to find out what it is. I say we we follow 'em, wait our time, and put them in the ground after stealing all valuables! Who's with me?" The End - For now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi all and I hoped you like the introduction to a story I tend to build up in the coming months. In this community I value the high regards to quality over quantity accompanied by a good story: and I want to contribute. Landscaping is not my talent and therefore I thought a story in the Rock would be a good place to train my Moccing skills. Architecture I like much more, and I want to try new things as well as good old nostalgic aspects of LEGO pirates, as some here know. So constructive criticism is always welcome and enjoy the story! Much more is coming! An overall view of the last vignette:
  19. Meadow Tickle Tickle (n): a Newfoundland (Canada) term first coined in 1770. It describes i) a narrow salt-water strait, as in the entrance to a harbour or between islands & other land masses, often difficult to navigate due to narrowness, shallowness, tides, etc.; ii) a 'settlement adjoining such a passage. So named as a boat which traverses it may feel a "tickle" on the bottom of their hull. The fishing village of Meadow Tickle was composed of a handful of fisherman families and their huts, their existence on the edge of civilization was a hard one. Named for the explorer who discovered it (Captain Daniel Médaux), During the recent monsoons, two of the local skiffs were lost with all hands, devastating the community and threatening their livelihood. So when a pirate fleet came around the cape and asked to barter for supplies in exchange for hard currency, they jumped at the chance and the little hamlet prospered as never before. This represents a SEA RAT Pirate Hideout. Other pics:
  20. Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Introduction and Starting Thread (Just looking for the Master Index?) What is it? The simple answer is that it is a building community on Eurobricks that is open to all who wish to join. We tell stories about a maritime-oriented world where the technology level is parallel with the historical Age of Sail. There are currently four factions. Each member joins a faction, and builds to win points (Gold doubloons and influence points) for their faction, themselves, and to better their building skills. At any given time of the year there may be one or more building challenges in which a builder may win recognition and sometimes prizes for themselves. On top of this, there is also a game mechanic that allows players to earn more gold and power for themselves and their faction. Background: The year is 615 AE (After Empire) and this is the dawn of a new era. For the first time in the history of the continent of Halos, new lands have been discovered. Even more shocking, the Halosians are not alone in the world. Once thought to be a flat plane, where monsters roamed the edges, the world is now believed by most geographers to be most certainly round. This was proven first with the discovery of Terraversa by the Mardierian explorer, Ardmond Basker. For 100 years the Mardierians have held Terraversa as a far off gateway, keeping all others out and not allowing the information of the world to the east, or New Terra, to permeate into the rest of Halos. At almost a 1000 miles from the next island in the Sea of Storms, the island remains a most crucial point on the voyage into the unknown. As time went on, other nations of the Madrice Peninsula began to search the seas for other islands and their potential riches. South of the Basker Islands, Corrington took Tiberia, an unforgiving rock just outside of the much more lucrative tropical zone. Oleon found LeBellan, the jewel of the Sea of Storms. LeBellan sits right inside the tropical zone, and produces sugar in vast quantities. 56 years ago Eslandola took possession of An Holli and An Toli, two smaller islands south of LeBellan, both sugar producing as well. Despite gaining footholds in the Sea of Storms, the other Madrician nations were unable to voyage beyond Terraversa. This all changed with the death of King Harln of Mardier, and the vast civil war that began in the country in 595 AE. Instead of looking to gain territory from Mardier’s mainland, the Eslandolans approached the Viceroy of Terraversa and paid him handsomely for permission to trade at the island. The Viscount took it further and allowed ALL nations to pay for the privilege to visit his island. Twenty years later, as the civil war continues, Terraversa has become a defacto independent state. The Viscount’s son, Miro Oldis, now runs the island, and his father’s policies live on. It is not certain if the Mardierians will reestablish their colony or not after the war, but it may be too late. In 597, intrepid Eslandolian explorer Cato Calrelli sailed east from Terraversa into the unknown. It was thought to be suicidal at the time, but he returned 70 days later with the news that he had found more of New Terra. He claimed the land for Eslandola, and soon the Kingdom of Eslandola was the leading nation in colonization. In 605, news circulated throughout the Madrice Peninsula that the Eslandolans had found gold on their island of Nellisa, and this set off a thirst for expansion and exploration never before seen. With Terraversa as a launching spot for new expeditions, Corringtonians, Oleanders, Eslandolans, along with some Garvans, Mardierans, and Carnovans made their way towards New Terra. Many found themselves unable to find supplies at Nellisa, the Eslandolans baring even some of their own from landing on the island. These vagabonds headed south, where a new isle was found, one with few resources, but great defensive harbors. Soon, the Sea Rats had a home. Angry that they had been dispossessed and had not found aid, many turned to vengeance on the Eslandolans by becoming pirates, and many of these pirates began to prey on all nations, and even their fellow pirate. Besides Terraversa, where the Atwi tribe lives, no new natives have been found yet. The islands beyond Terraversa have so far all had strange abandoned settlements upon them, and some sailors say that there is a whole new nation of people in these far waters, but no one has recorded seeing a non-Halosian or Atwi person yet. OW NORTH Series Map This brings us to the present. Oleon and Corrington have both issued rewards for the first permanent settlement “Beyond the Line” (beyond Terraversa). They are willing to bring their navies to New Terra if they only have a settlement to resupply at. Eslandola is calling for its own people to venture into the unknown and find wealth and fortune in the its name. But the Sea Rats lurk in all the waters of New Terra, waiting for opportunity, and despite the world seeming more round than ever, some say those old sea monsters still exist in the uncharted lands of the East. All factions await new souls to take on a role in the New World. Who will win in the end? Nobody knows, but for sure the sea will play a large role in deciding the fate of these rich new lands. She can be a cruel mistress to those who do not respect her, indeed, and the only guarantee in this world is that salt will run through your veins as you become part of the Brethren of the Brick Seas. The Crossing Series Mapd How this works: Builders pick a faction - this is your faction until the next “open period,” so make sure to pick a character you like. You will be able to change factions with enough personal influence points (PIPs), but that take a while. Your builds do not have to display your signature figure, but we encourage it! You also may build MOCs in other faction’s territory, so building is not limited to one style. There will be an “Era” of story and challenges, which will end with winners being determined in a few different categories. The contests and stories told during an era will influence the map, the history of the world, and future challenges. When a era is completed, points will be reset, but Factions and builders will keep their “gold doubloons.” (DBs) Builders and factions alike seek fortune. This project setting revolves around two currencies that are earned by building and winning competitions. This is the economy of the project. We understand that not every builder will want to play this game, and a builder can opt out of playing altogether, or only participating in the game when they choose. Free Builds that enhance the community’s story are always welcome. Even if a builder opts out of playing the "Economic Game System" (EGS), their freebuilds will earn their faction Doubloons and Factions Influence Points. Please see the rules thread for more details on how the economy works. Factions: The Kingdom of Eslandola STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Empire of Corrington STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Empire of Oleon STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Sea Rats STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs What you need to do now: Take a look at the faction threads. Pick a side and sign up in the faction thread with your signature figure (sig fig). It helps to have a back story! Can I have more than one character? Yes! Although one should be your sig fig and your main character, you can have as many other characters as you wish. The world needs populated after all! A starting challenge: This is open to everyone to complete once, and 25DBs will be awarded to the builder for completing the task. Build your sig fig and place them in a setting in our world. It can be in the colonies, in the motherland, at sea, anything you would like, but make sure to show the figure clearly and demonstrate the profession you have chosen for them in some way. (IE: if you decided to play an explorer, maybe you will place them on the bow of a ship looking out to sea with a spy glass.) Any profession that existed during the enlightenment is fine, along with a few other professions that would be a reasonable fit. If you are playing in the EGS, then there are a few character traits that you may want to consider here. How are scores kept? Each month, a pinned thread will help us keep score. After you complete a build (which should have its own thread, no matter if it is a free build, a duel, or a challenge build) you need to post in this score keeping thread and use a leadership-supplied link to a webform to help us keep score. In the thread, post your name, faction, and a link to your build (and the challenge it belongs to) in the thread. Please only use one post per topic, and just edit the thread when you build something else. At the end of the month, a project leader will tally up the scores and update the “Hall of Fame and Score” post for each faction. Please be patient for updates, we are not being paid for this. Scores will be displayed as follows: Name: DBs, PIPs, (PIPs achieved this cycle) IE: Skaforhire: 5DB, 5PIPs, (2PIPs) Current faction score is kept by adding all member’s totals within the parenthesis minus any expenditures the faction has made during the cycle. What can be bought with points and doubloons? A lot. The list will grow over time with more specifics, but since we are just launching this project, here are some of the examples without specific details: DBs: Position within trading guilds, rank in certain factions, a letter of marque to join another factions war against a third faction, a licence to sail a vessel in the raiding action, gamble, etc… FIPs: A newly discovered island, win a war between factions, buy DBs for the total score, open up a new portion of the map just for your faction for a few months, etc… The Map: The map is a part of the storytelling mechanism. As you can see, it is not totally defined yet. This will change as time goes on. New portions of the New World (and some of the Old) will be uncovered through events, challenges, and other parts of the project. New islands will be claimed, older territories will be taken in war, and the map will stay dynamic throughout the story. Builders will have the map revealed to them over time, and they will help decide what lands are conquered. With that said, the first part of our story will take place in New Terra. Your character should probably have some feasible connection that would lead them to that region, or it may be hard to really participate in the early challenges. A baker back in Eslandola’s capitol city is probably going to have little interaction with things going on in New Terra. We will eventually have challenges that happen on the mainland, and different story events “back home,” but we are emphasizing the pirate theme and its nature primarily in the first part of this project. Once a firm piratical lore and history is established, more aspects of Enlightenment era politics, war making, and commerce will emerge. 21. If you want to read the first part of my characters story, read the introduction post. "Log of Captain Lothario Fraunces, 28th of June, 618 Me and my brothers Jacobo and Alfie spend some days together in the city of Breshaun. Me and my brother Jacobo came to Breshaun on board of the Fluyt 'The Octopus'. Together with Alfie we enlisted again and had plans to reach the new world to the east, when some of the Octopus' crew members came to me. Crew members: "Lothario, the captain died last night. He was ill since we left Holders Rock but he did not want to tell anyone. We need a new captain and we know your skills on the seas and don't trust the old quartermaster Cedric. He is egocentric and is very stubborn. Lead us in our mutiny!" And so we went to the ship. I challenged Cedric to a duel for the captaincy. Our cutlasses almost broke with every strike. Cedric fought like a bull but his anger prohibited him to foresee my moves and I was on the winning hand, what I did not know was that Cedric companion was below deck, ready to fill me with lead through the hatch. The blast just missed my forehead and blew my hat away. The cheat came out of the hatch to finish the job, but he did not count on my brother Alfie. With one smooth move Alfie threw the cheat overboard: "Go irritate Neptune" - he said. How I already love this guy. The duel with Cedric however, continued. It was not long before I took the upper hand and with a few slashes and thrusts I had him on the ground. We put Cedric on a rowing boat back to Breshaun, The Octopus crew chose me as their new captain. We buried our old captain on an empty beach in LeBellan, said goodbye to the girls in the brothel, took in fresh supplies and headed to the new world. Jacobo (the new quartermaster) convinced the me and the crew to head to île D'Or, for glory, adventure and gold was lurking on that island. What more does one need to convince a bunch of Sea Rats? And so we went." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope you guys like my ship and the story. I checked the shipwright post for building tips and took my main motivation from the replica Dutch Fluyt 'de Batavia'. I will license her as a Class 5. My apologies for the bad photo-shopping, this is not my forte. The name derives from the bow spring: C&C is welcome.
  22. The frigate Hand of Fate was commissioned by Bishop Meloche from the shipyards of the old world long before his untimely demise. The two decked warship was to have served as his flag ship, but found itself without ownership and was sold to a private concern. Its whereabouts are presently unknown. ===x===x===x=== This is a project that I am finishing simply to get it off my workspace. It was begun almost a full year ago and built up in stops & starts. When the Shipwright Guild Hall deemed it too short to fit the class 8 template in November 2017, it was torn apart and restarted once two new prefab mid sections showed up in the mail. Since then the bow & head rails have been rebuilt four times and the stern twice. Today I found myself with two hours of free time. I pulled it out of the closet and simply decided to finish it as best I could to end the odyssey. I declare it as done as it will ever be. I'm not completely happy with it aesthetically but as a "game piece" it will suffice. I certainly will never try my hand at a ship this large ever again; my collection doesn't allow me to work at this magnitude successfully. I was originally planning to do some rigging work but I just don't have the impetus anymore.
  23. May 29, 618: Red Bloom Public House, Bastion Captain Rajput! It has been an age since the Golden Calf put into Bastion. The last I heard, you had been working the East Prio Sea. What brings you back here? Willard my good man, it has been a long time. I must confess I had not planned on making port here at all. But I have been at sea far too long and needed to slake my thirst. Take my coin and pour some of the good brandy and I'll tell you a tale that still has me perplexed. Ahhhh. We ran out of rum not a week ago, so this soothing drink was a long time in coming. But to my story... First off, let me state that I have been making my berth in Charlatan Bay these last few months. It lies close to the shipping lanes out of the eastern colonies, and even with the Mad Bishop dead and the city under marshal law by the occupying Mardieran Navy, us enterprising buccaneers were given free rein. The Mardieran officer in charge knew full well he could not counter a rebellion by all the black flag captains, so he turned a blind eye as long as their shipping was safe and the odd coin found its way into his pocket. While it was not as easy as things were before (it is hard to make a go of piracy these days), we still managed to pull in enough to get by. Then the volcano erupted. The rumbling started as we left port on the first of the month and we could see the smoke and ash rising still after being a day out to sea. Now Charlatan Bay is on the far side of the island, so while I was sure the quaking would loosen some clay roof tiles, I doubted the lava flows would reach it. Some of the crew were concerned for favourite wenches left behind, so we were a bit apprehensive on what we'd encounter on our return. We all would have guessed wrong. As we made our way down the northwestern coast line, it was a scene like hell itself had risen from the depths. The ash was as thick as fog, and rivers of flame flowed into the ocean were it spat and boiled like a thrashing beast. About a league before we were to make our turn into the bay, we came across the Tiger Shark; Captain Redgrave's ship. They had been shot to ribbons and were so holed I thought it a miracle they were still afloat. We hailed them and came in close for news. Redgrave was dead. His first mate was wild eyed and panicked, but in exchange for a barrel of salt beef he agreed to tell me what had occurred. The Tiger Shark must have arrived in Charlatan Bay a week or so after we had left, and when they made port the populace had been understandably nervous about the volcano but no more than that. Redgrave set about replenishing his stores and making repairs. For the first week all was as normal as possible, thought the smoke and ash was a nuisance to be dealt with and required a fire watch be kept on the ship. Then things started to go queer. Some Mardieran marines were found floating face down in the harbour. Then a trader out of Carno caught fire and burned down lightning quick with all hands lost. The sloop-of-war Pride of Dortanis exploded at anchor, when her powder stores apparently caught a descending ember. Finally, the very night before we made landfall, there was an event. The first mate was too terrified to even explain what had occurred - all I could get out him "drums" and "blood". As they fled, he claimed he saw a harbour full of burning ships and the forts fired on them mercilessly until they made there way clear. I of course thought him unhinged and likely guilty of deserting his captain. We gave them short shrift and quickly disengaged, only to make our way round to the lip of the bay to see what what we could. I have always been a curious sort. We never got close enough though, as we were fired upon us before we could get a good look through the smoke. I put it down to some madness lingering from bishop's rule and were putting Charlatan Bay to our rudder, when the oddest thing happened. A Free Traders Association boat came up upon us suddenly, and we could see it intended to make port. We did our best to hail them and warn them of impeding attack but they ignored us and sailed into the bay WITHOUT DRAWING ANY RESPONSE FROM THE SHORE BATTERIES. With our own stores low, I decided to head here rather than investigate further. The whole incident has me curious, though not enough to brave those waters until he smoke clears mind you. What say you to that Willard? Captain, it has been years since I walked a deck and carried a cutlass, but I was a brave man in my day and pillaged enough to buy this here tavern. I am no stranger to death. So understand that I am no craven when I say: there is not enough gold on this earth that would make me visit Charlatan Bay right now. ===x===x===x=== IMPORTANT NOTICE: As of this moment, Charlatan Bay is a closed port to all but FTA shipping (and the personal ships of Roadmonkeytj, Gulagurag and myself of course, but that doesn't dovetail nicely into the story yet). I will be asking @Capt Wolf to treat any ship, other than the exceptions stated, that make port during the TMRCA to be denied trading rights, and have immediate attempts made for captured and subsequently destruction.
  24. One of the more unusal exports from Isla del Diablo is the particularly potent venoms of the island's arachnid population. Of course, obtaining said venoms firstly requires finding the spiders, which means venturing out of Haven and into the dangerous wooded portions of the island. Quite a risk, but the hunter's patrons pay well... ...especially, of course, the House of Spiders.
  25. Settlement Name: Haven Owner: Sea Rats Location: Isla del Diablo (Challenge Island 11) Island Description: Located southeast of the Nest of Thieves, Isla del Diablo is named for the large bay and small peninsulas that, once a map way drawn, resembled nothing so much as the horns of a monster. The bay, however, provides an almost perfect natural harbor and a well defensible position. Unsurprisingly the island has already started to draw settlers, although some are scared away by talk of cannibals... Haven is one of the first new settlements. The inhabitants arrived in a small fleet to find clear beaches and dense jungle that provides plenty of material for building endeavors. Already the de facto leader, Roland Blaze, is drawing up plans for fortifications. After all, there are more than just Sea Rats out there.
