  1. Colony Name: Tortuga Ownership: Sea Rats Location: Sea Turtle Island (Island #10, West Prio Sea ) Island Description: Much of the coast of this Island disappears completely below the waves at high tide, and the surrounding sea is very shallow, allowing only smaller ships to near the island, with exception to a small rocky portion to the northern side. The Island interior--that which stays above water at all times--is dominated by coconut palms and other salt-tollerant species. The small island is the hatching site for innumeral sea turtles, multiple times per year.

    Fire and blood!

28 September 619, Infero Pordejon, Fort San Millar The black flag of the rebels was still waving in the wind, but it was not going to last: the tides had turned. The tides had turned. After a long shelling with the few cannons available, the strong walls of Fort San Millar were finally breached, and the final assault began. The fort, once the pride of the Ashen Guard, had been occupied since the first days of disorders by a cruel group of smugglers: they made huge profits closing the port and profiting on the provisions, even if this caused a terrible famine and made violence explode in the streets. But finally the tides had turned, and the fort represented the last stronghold of the rebel pirates. By sure, the fort was intimidating, with 32 pounders towards the bay, sturdy walls and two of the sides right above vertical cliffs. However, as Tristan had realised studying the maps, the fort had not been projected to withstand a strong assault by land: some of the walls were too low and too exposed to artillery. He doubted that it was an error in the project: since a land attack could start only from Charlatan Bay itself, more probably, the Dark Bishop didn't want to transform the fort in an impregnable fortress for a rebel garrison… whatever the cause, Tristan was more than grateful for that. In that moment, Tristan heard the first musket salvos and the screams of the wounded men. It was time to move. He incited his men, an heterogeneous group of Oleander volunteers and local militiamen, and jumped on his boat. The battle plan was simple but, hopefully, effective: a frontal assault against the lowest wall, followed by a flanking attack from the cliffs, with boats and grappling hooks, to neutralize the cannons before they could be turned towards the parade ground. The hooks were thrown towards the parapet. There was no more time to think now: thirty minutes of fire and blood and everything would have been over, in a way or in the other. Tristan unsheathed the sword and shouted a war cry, followed by his men. That day, if Ares was with them, they would have seen the end of battle for Charlatan Bay. The battle for the external walls: To the breach! A barrel of gunpowder thrown by the defenders: In the parade ground: Counterattack of the defenders: A cannon and ammunitions: A bird's eye view: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fort San Millar was finally assaulted. This is probably my last build for this storyline, but the future of Charlatan Bay is still uncertain, and peace will be frail for a long time, so... who knows? Probably Tristan will leave for the North, the Great Alliance States, the ice and the steppes, for the desert of New Oleon, the woods of Varcoast or the Southern Seas. I hope you enjoyed my builds in this storyline, and the story itself. I did. Again, I have to thank @Kwatchi and @Gulagurag, even if probably they won't read this, for the great storyline of the Dark Bishop and Charlatan Bay. In many cases, my builds retrace theirs (Fort San Millar itself, for example), or things they wrote about the settlement.
  3. Late September 619, Infero Pordejon, a open market in Charlatan Bay Lowtown The Keegan treaty seemed like it had been only yesterday but in reality it had been almost two whole months since Keegans men had joined the ranks. Lowtown had been taken back through many skirmishes. The all that remained had been pushed back to a reinforced line on the road to the Fort. Gustaf's Men now grossly outnumbered Tristan's volunteers and uniforms were commissioned from one of the local skilled tailors. This was done to necessitate a grand boost in moral and to create unity amongst the men as this civil war had been dragging on for the better part of a year now. Other changes could be noticed as well. Over the past week a Platform had been constructed .... The last time a similar platform had been seen in the settlement had been directly following the Dark Bishops reign. This platform was more intimidating though as a Large heavy blade was suspended over a stock. The talk that surrounded its purpose was that heads would roll once the fort was recaptured. It was also constructed in one of the open markets in the center of Lowtown. This was a bold statement as the governmental seat was in Hightown. Gustaf made his presence known in Lowtown with regular patrols with drummer and color guard always in step. Here you can see as Gustaf leads the a platoon past Arnesto the Smithy and the guillotine platform. The markets are also well stocked once again since the supply ships are now fairly regular. Fresh foods and even some preserved can be easily purchased from the Market Stalls. Medicines can be purchased from The Gypsy Woman providing you let her read your Tarot. Even Bru-HaHa is making its way to the settlement again. All that was left was the final push to the Fort. Surely supplies in the Fort were dwindeling as they had been cut off from thier supply ships as Gustaf had managed to beat the rebels to the Bells by sailing around the reach of San Millars' guns instead of the long jungle path through the gorge the rebels had tried. With the control of the Hidden Battery and Hells Bells the rebel smugglers lost many ships until they were snuffed out. Comments and Criticisms welcomed!
  4. The Sea Rats Nickname: Pirates Colors: Black, Yellow, Medium Blue Quick Glance: The Sea Rats are a rag tag group of scoundrels and rogues, who have found true freedom on the open sea. United under the common cause of self-determination, and defiance of Imperial rule, these folk heed no laws but those of the Pirate Code. (Which is really more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules, rather loose-like, you know.) These men and women are pirates, smugglers, con-men, and any kind of lawless scallywag which you can conceive of, but there are also rebel leaders, defectors from decadence, dispossessed traders and explorers, members of conquered nations, and any who find themselves disenfranchised from their societies. There are those who take advantage of the lawlessness to conduct crimes with impunity. well, actually that later category would likely count for most people. Membership: Sea Rats is open for members. Any man, woman, child, or what-have-you can be a sea rat! You needn't make your den in the Nest of Thieves, nor need you affiliate with other sea rats at all! We're the scourge of these seas, and swear fealty to no nation! If you'd like to captain a pirate ship and pillage and plunder, and riffle and loot the trade routes of the Empires, then join the Sea Rats! If you wish to take your crew on a roaring rampage of revenge against those nations that betrayed you, or perhaps your Quartermaster who led a mutiny against you, then join the Sea Rats! If you wish to swindle and connive, and con your way up in the world, then join the Sea Rats! If you've tired of oppressive reign of Kings and Queens and wish to make your own way in the world, then join the Sea Rats! Have adventure in your heart, a sword in your hands, and the salt wind in your hair? Then you're a Sea Rat, me hearty! To join, just sign up in this thread with an introduction post that shows your sigfig. A little background goes a long way, so we appreciate any backstory you would like to present with the fig! Reasons to Join: Sea Rats have a number of unique rules that other factions don't, some which are centered specifically around player piracy (known as 'black flagging'): 1) Under the Table: Sea Rats only pay 70% of a ship license and 50% of land property costs (except mines and forts). 2) Looters: Sea Rats are always managing to scrounge up valuable bits to sell for a coin or two. Upon capture, Sea Rats receive 20 DBs per cargo point of the captured ship as loot. Players from other factions do not gain any value for a capture beyond the ship itself. This replaces previous looting rules. 3) Results Driven: The black flag pirate crews of the Sea Rats often find provisions and supplies by... alternative means. Sea Rats pay no upkeep for black-flagged ships. 4) Underground Economy: All un-MOC'd ships captured by NPC Pirates and Black Flag players can now be condemned (i.e. sold) to the Prize Court for a value of 50%-75% of their regular license value. The rules for non-black flag players selling to the prize court remains unchanged. 5) Sea Rats earn an extra 30% yield on Artisan businesses. <- under review 6) No taxes! For those still uncertain of what faction to chose or how to sign up in a minute, we have some simple instructions here, which pretty much sum up everything Index A Detailed Look at the Sea Rats (this post) Settlements (second post) Membership (second post) A DETAILED LOOK at the SEA RATS 1. Leadership Susieh Cheng (@dr_spock, Co-Leader) Susieh Cheng loves sharp pointy objects. She doesn't like talking about her past like that incident with her eye. Rumours have it that she was kidnapped as a child by pirates. Having been raised by pirates, she developed a taste for gold and booty. Whatever you do, do not cross her. Those who do end up as shark bait after seasoned with 14 spices and stuffed with stale bread. Doctor Thaum - (@Professor Thaum, Co-Leader) The Pirate Council The Pirate Council is a group of influential captains and business folk, and here they hold their kangaroo courts. There is a certain honor among the thieves, and the most prominent business owners and pirates meet to discuss how best to conduct business and keep the people happy. Whenever there are enough issues the Council reconvenes to discuss them, but apart from that everyone does their own thing, and the most notorious pirate amongst them (currently Captain Reynard le Roublard) collects tithes for the greater good of them all... incase Corrington or Oleon comes knocking at their ports and they need a show of force to defend their freedom. These are the free folk, bound to no master but those they chose, and they do as they please, when they please to whomever or with whomever they please. Kind of anarchic-like. 2. Landscape The Port of Bastion MOC by Commander Red Hat Bastion is a town on the rocky shores of the Nest of Thieves populated by vagabonds and rogues, as well as the staunchly independent and dispossessed, the chaotic town is where the pirates have free port and may sell their ill begotten loot. There is not much of an organized structure to things on The Nest of Thieves, so Bastion grew without ordinance, leading to shoddy construction in some parts, and a lot of crime in the streets - but the people are tough, so they don’t really mind all that much. MOC by Darkdragon 3. Military Army: Sea Rats have no uniforms, so they wear whatever they see fit in the morning or nothing. It is recommended that you sail under a black flag, but if that is somehow not possible any other color will do the job! Navy: The Sea Rats have many ships in their fleet, which they rent out to their members for dastardly activities on the high seas. Apply for permission to use them in the Sea Rat group PM. Active Faction Ships Are: Corporal Milton - Class 5 warship Misfortune's Doom - Class 5 warship Hades' Tuba - Class 5 warship HMS Pendragon - Class 5 warship Godfreed Faulk - Class 2 trader MOC by Captain Braunsfeld 4. History and Culture Brief: The Sea Rats are a mixed bunch, but for the most part they consist of pirates, rogues, and thieves. Discovering the island soon afterwards to be known as The Nest of Thieves, the Sea Rats settled down and made its rocky shores their home, building the stronghold of Bastion on its nearly impregnable rocky eminences. Since then the Sea Rats have thrived in their new home, and piratical and other business is at its finest! Detailed: Unlike the Kings and Queens of the old world, Pirate leadership is dynamic, and mercurial – it is anarchistic, not dynastic. The top pirate or individual with the most personal influence gets to boss the others around until they themselves are deposed. The Sea Rats are comprised of a true hodge-podge of peoples from a variety of Nations, all of whom have forsworn their prior allegiances in favor of a free life of self-determination and self-reliance. Many of the original Sea Rats were those dispossessed by their nations during the first great rush for the new world. These betrayed sailors, clinging to the promise of wealth and glory, turned south from the closed gates of Nelissa, and, along with many old rogues who had earned their salt in the old world by piratical activities and such-like, settled the rocky shores of the island that would become "The Nest of Thieves." The city of Bastion was founded here on the skeleton of a former Eslandolan fishing village. With the great diversity of newcomers, no one nation could hold dominance here, and instead, a council was formed of the most prominent captains amongst them, many former Privateers and pirates of the Old World. This was the first Pirate High Council, where they determined that Bastion would remain forever free of the influence of the tyrannical empires, and that no one person could be their master! This pact laid the groundwork for Bastion to become the wretched hive of scum and villainy it has become, and united the Sea Rats as a people. In the absence of law and order, the streets of Bastion are in a constant state of chaos, with infamous pirate lords freely roaming the street, and pickpockets on every corner... but the people are a tough, resolute bunch, and despite the anarchy, business booms from the riches brought in by the pirates, and a healthy – if you like that kind of healthiness – economy of pirate raids, and smugglers has formed. Diplomacy: The Sea Rats are pretty indifferent when it comes to other factions. Of course, this type of indifference means something more like, "They see a ship and attack, without bothering to check whose flag waves from the mast head," rather than an indifferent kind of indifference. Neither do the Sea Rats particularly relish the idea of hanging by their necks until they be dead, so they naturally study to avoid any such unappetizing contingencies resulting from getting caught by a different faction which they had been preying on. (Note: Relationships are judged on a 1 to 5 scale; Very Friendly, Friendly, Indifferent, Unfriendly, Hostile) Sea Rat's relationship with: Corrington: Indifferent Eslandola: Indifferent Oleon: Indifferent Other nations relationship with Sea Rats: Corrington: Indifferent Eslandola: Indifferent Oleon: Indifferent 5. 5. Dramatis Personae: This is an entry for Mardier. Previously, Currently, in an undisclosed location... I was not sure you would come. There are those of us in Eslandola who profit more from peace than war. I received your message and have come to see if we can start working towards a more...political...solution. Just know that before we begin, my masters have orders to escalate the conflict should something untowards happen to me. I have come with no other agenda than to try to find common ground...a way such that both sides can win and save face. I am glad to hear of it. Now, there are some concessions Mardier would like, but in exchange, we are prepared to offer... RUN AWAY!!! What? Oof! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! <splat> Come back here! I love you, Alois! You will be mine! Ah crap. Comments and criticisms are all welcome!

    Boardwalk Talk

The infamous Captain Nordau and a representative of the Sea Rat port authorities take a walk on a Garveyan boardwalk in Freeport, and in the process a large bag of DBs and some papers change hands respectively... only time will tell where it all will go from here! But, little do they know, they are not alone - other ears are hearing every word that is said... And a shot of the infamous pirate Captain on the beach: Hello y'all! A little scene to officially inaugurate my Black Flag Captain's agreement with the Sea Rat authorities - the details of which, for the curious, are that which Captain Nordau has bribed bought the future silence of all Sea Rat port authorities (i.e., the location of the Captain's ship(s) won't be published in the KPA when he's in a SR settlement) in exchange for 5000 DBs and a Class 4 ship which he has given to the Sea Rat faction. And yep, we did get the court's approval and all, so all's fair and above board - figuratively speaking, you know Oh, and no, this is not the start of another ETWC monkey story, I just couldn't resist the urge to get at least one monkey in the scene! Was really happy with how the sea background worked out; and it was awesome getting to crack out that light yellow for the beach! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome as always!

    [SR-FB] Jokers Folly

She was built to cause havock during the Pilots Association Events. The crew had celebrated brining destruction to the association. Perhaps they celebrated a little too hard ... or was it a little too long? As they awoke from their drunken slumber it seemed as if they had missed the whole event! OoC- I built this for the challenge but life got in the way of getting it to post in time. So Im posting it now. Comments and Criticism welcomed
  8. Dramatis Personae: Previously, Currently, Rassilon? Why are we looking at Rassilon? It looks so peaceful, doesn't it? And they don't even realize... That didn't sound ominous at all. Wait...that thing we built? Don't tell me!!! There it is, up in the sky! We're destroying the Sea Rat settlement of Rassilon? All those people are going to die!!! They're not ALL going to die. Besides, the upkeep costs were getting outrageous. Rassilon had to go. It got too expensive. So we're just going to kill them?!?! DON'T WANT TO CLOSE MY EYES!!! I DON'T WANT TO FALL ASLEEP, 'CAUSE I'D MISS YOU, BABY, AND I DON'T WANNA MISS A THING!!! We're responsible for this! We built that giant fireball! Ahem. Technically, I did. Leave it to the psychobabble student to try to steal credit from the engineer. You admit it! Of course. It's not my best work, but I'm proud of it nonetheless. PROFESSIONAL PRIDE!!! I don't care who built it! We couldn't have evacuated Rassilon first?! And create a refugee crisis? We can't afford that. Why do you think we are doing this in the first place? All those people are going to die and it will be on us! Nah. The people will just think the gods did this. It's not like they can see the fourth wall, let alone anything past it. I can't watch... Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

  10. The settlement of Trador seemed to be the next logical step in the Eslodian markets. With its active wineries and current Cider production the network of goods was already set up. Plans had been drawn up and construction was now completed. Workers already had the first few batches run. This was a small factory compared to the other Bru-HaHa facilities with only a single pot which was much smaller. They found they could get 13 barrels per run after heads and tails were cut. Even though this was a small facility it was not by any means less state of the art. underground aging tunnels had been constructed under the streets and most never knew how expansive the tunnels were. This was also the first facility built with large windows low to the ground to encourage the public to view the process. Here a young family peeks in at the mash production The offices here are just large enough to conduct business as the facility is not open for tours. You'll also notice only dry stores are kept. Bru-HaHa belives fresh ingredients make a better bruh Another reason for choosing Trador. The Facility does not feel claustrophobic despite the majority of production being below ground level Another reason in favor of Trador is the constant patrols. Here you can see workers feeling safe beneath the streets in one of the underground storage vaults. However not everyone feels as safe from the patrols. Lets hope that poor inn keeper can calm his spooked horse before he looses his fresh shipment Another view of the facility where you can see the latest batch being completed and another batch being bottled for retail You'll notice the boiler is coal fired as you get a more controlled heat from coal then wood. You might also notice that the large elevated mash pots have direct plumbing to the boiler. Reducing the prep time needed to refill the boiler between batches. --------------- OoC: Comments and Criticism welcomed! This has been a fun build, and once again I am lead to believe that my computer in incapable of rendering over 10,000 bricks lol. I was lucky enough to get two before it began failing. This "small facility" will be licensed as a Large Factory. Also while I would have preferred to tile the mezzanine, the boiler poking through the floor could only be accomplished with the exposed studs as the only plate with the hole does not match up to any current tiles. [SR-FB] Myth Chaser

While in Fatu Hiva Samantha thought she recognized an old friend. So she followed her into the Blue Tassel for a better look Sure enough it was Cathy Derr. She approached her and surprised her. The Gals talked like gals do. They talked about old times then talked about the current. Samantha boasted that she decided to go abroad with her new Husband Darren Kedd, an Eslodian who owned his own trade ship now, and as luck would have it here are many fancy new dresses in the New world. Samantha asked where Rodish was as they were rarely apart. Cathy rolled her eyes and sighed... Stating he's gone off on a folly to go rescue his sister he's never met. Luckily we got the news after the Ball in Kings Harbor not before. Cathy straightened up and smiled though as she proudly proclaimed I am Captain of the Narwhal now though! Cathy explained further that she was preparing to head for a military exercise in Quinnsville, but was going to have to call it off as her crew refused to sail with soldiers packed shoulder to shoulder. She explained how it was really a pity as the Corish government had even sent her special flags to be flown from her masts. Samantha said you won't have to cancel at all, we have ample room aboard my husband's ship the Myth Chaser. After all they may not be neighbors any longer but they are still friends and that's what friends do. Cathy asked if Samantha would have to convince Darren to go along with it. Samantha told her don't worry it's as good as done... Just see if you can get a second set of flags dear! Later that day aboard the Myth Chaser Samantha told Darren of how she ran into her childhood friend Cathy and explained how she was going to cancel her mission but wouldn't have to because the Myth Chaser had plenty of room. At first Daren was shocked at the boldness of his new wife. He then scolded her as this folly would have no profit at all. To which Samantha batted her eyes and pouted her lip and said if you love me then the profit won't matter as long as it makes me happy right... That's what you told me. Darren was over a barrel. She had all the power in the world and he would give her anything to make her happy. Even if it meant getting his ship blasted with paint. He calmly said to Samantha It will give me an excuse to fire the guns and drill sailors, when do we depart darling? ______________ OoC: this is to explain the second ship raiding Quinsville since the Narwal does not have enough cargo points to transport all the troops @Bregir @LM71Blackbird This will also serve to Licence the new ship check the spoiler for photos Comments and Criticism welcomed Ship photos:
  14. Two nefarious sea Captains were caught in conference in Tortuga recently. Captain Larvey was seen examining letters from a what our source confirmed were signed by "The Phoenix" Larvey was overheard telling the Captain of LaPetunia " Aye if these be true mate we will be needing to procure more vessels" to which the response was "Aye they be true there already be a large fleet sailing south as we speak all on special mission from the Phoenix himself" Ooc: this serves to raise ship limits. 15. Meadow Tickle Tickle (n): a Newfoundland (Canada) term first coined in 1770. It describes i) a narrow salt-water strait, as in the entrance to a harbour or between islands & other land masses, often difficult to navigate due to narrowness, shallowness, tides, etc.; ii) a 'settlement adjoining such a passage. So named as a boat which traverses it may feel a "tickle" on the bottom of their hull. The fishing village of Meadow Tickle was composed of a handful of fisherman families and their huts, their existence on the edge of civilization was a hard one. Named for the explorer who discovered it (Captain Daniel Médaux), During the recent monsoons, two of the local skiffs were lost with all hands, devastating the community and threatening their livelihood. So when a pirate fleet came around the cape and asked to barter for supplies in exchange for hard currency, they jumped at the chance and the little hamlet prospered as never before. This represents a SEA RAT Pirate Hideout. Other pics:

The archipelago rests in the thick of a coral reef, whose unpredictable depth has already been the grounding of more than one large vessel. The Island itself is fertile and could grow sugar cane quite well. Rumours: A roguish band of ship scavengers has been operating out of "The Hilt", preying on the ships that wreck in the reef. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Precious little remains of those ships that did ground in the waters surrounding "The Hilt and the Blade"
  17. Dramatis Personae: Previously, Wait. I thought we were captured. How come we aren't in jail like last time? It seems instead of sending us to jail and just taking the Nerdy Mermaid, they've decided to hold an auction where we can buy our ship back. In fact, there it is, right next to the auctioneer. Well, this certainly is fancy. I can definitely feel all the money in room. Just look at the representatives of the nations! They look more like lame versions of the BoBS CMF posts that were all the rage a few weeks ago. I mean, look at this Eslandolan. He has a handlebar mustache that just tells the world that he's a perverted stalker. CREEPER! I beg your pardon! It is true. All the academic journals that have studied this subject have come to the conclusion that no one with a handlebar mustache should ever be trusted. And then there's this Corrington aristocrat lady. She's stuck a bustle so big under her dress that it might as well say "wide load" across the back. I LIKE BIG BUTTS AND I CANNOT LIE! Why I never! Yeah, can it, lady. Just make sure to warn others as you back up. Now, finally we've reached this old Oleon guy who is sporting this ridiculous topnot. Like seriously. A topnot on a man is super sexy said no woman ever. SO LAME, IT'S PRONOUNCED LAH-MAY! I say! I have to agree. I never understood why a topnot on either a man or a woman ever became an accepted style. It never did. Hold on. It seems the auctioneer is about to start. HEREWEHAVETHENERDYMERMAIDNERDYMERMAIDLETSSTARTTHEBIDATONEDOUBLOONONEDOUBLOONONEDOUBLOONHEYWEHAVEONEDOUBLOONNOWTWONOWTWOWILLYALLGIVEMETWODOUBLOONSWEHAVETWODOUBLOONSNOWTHREENOWTHREEWILLYALLGIVEMETHREEHEYWEHAVETHREEDOUBLOONSNOWFOURNOWFOURNOWFOURFORTHENERDYMERMAIDNOWTHREEHEYWEHAVEFOURNOWFIVEWILLYAGIVEMEFIVENOWFIVENOWFIVE... I can't understand the gobbledygook he is spewing. How are we even supposed to know how much the bid is at? It seems that the auctioneer is using the auction chant that is commonly used when auctioning off livestock, also known as the "cattle rattle". Who the heck is bidding on this thing? It's a microbuild! No one will fit in this thing. In fact, it's right there in front of them! I hope they don't think it's some sort of model for a real ship that doesn't exist. NOWFIFTYNOWFIFTYNOWFIFTYSHESAFINESHIPTHATNERDYMERMAIDWILLSOMEONEGIVEMEFIFTYHEYFIFTYNOWSIXTYNOWSIXTYGIVEMESIXTYWILLYANOWSIXTYFORTHEFINENERDYMERMAIDDOWEHAVESIXTYNOWSIXTYNOWSIXTYWEGOTSIXTYNOWSEVENTYNOWSEVENTYWILLYALLGIVEMESEVENTY... By the way, are we going to try to buy back the Nerdy Mermaid? Of course not! It's cheaper to just sistership, especially since we Sea Rats get a discount on the license. Oh, what will we name her? Scientists never come up with an imaginative name. We'll just call her the Nerdy Mermaid's Sister. SCIENTIFIC NAMING CONVENTION! Not Mark II or something similar? That would imply some sort of improvement or iteration. The Nerdy Mermaid's Sister will be identical to the Nerdy Mermaid. And besides, with this auction, my plan gets set into motion. Your plan? To rule the oceans of BoBS, of course. You see, now that we've lost the Nerdy Mermaid, we can sistership it. Then the next owner will lose the Nerdy Mermaid, perhaps to another player, and she or he will sistership it, and so on. The Nerdy Mermaid will spread through BoBS like a virus, replicating via the sistership process, and by the time the players realize what is happening, it will be too late and the Nerdy Mermaid and her sisters will have achieved total domination of BoBS! You stupid professor! What kind of idiotic plan is that and how does it help us?!?! Oh be quiet and let me revel in my genius. It seems that a player named @Umbra-Manis is currently winning the auction for the ship. Wasn't he a player in Andromeda's Gates in the Sci-Fi forum? CROSS PROMOTION! HA! What a silly player. If he wins, I'd like to see his characters board this microbuild. It's the size of a rowboat. Comments and criticisms are all welcome!
  18. Our Sea Rats built an amazingly fun game for Weelond's Oktoberfest. The rules are quite simple. Drink as much fine bruhaha beverages as you can and a bit more. Then proceed to the rat maze. Once inside the rat maze, collect all the silver coins that you can while avoiding the ghosts. It's game over if the ghost slashes you. It's fun to watch but you don't get rich watching. 20. Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Introduction and Starting Thread (Just looking for the Master Index?) What is it? The simple answer is that it is a building community on Eurobricks that is open to all who wish to join. We tell stories about a maritime-oriented world where the technology level is parallel with the historical Age of Sail. There are currently four factions. Each member joins a faction, and builds to win points (Gold doubloons and influence points) for their faction, themselves, and to better their building skills. At any given time of the year there may be one or more building challenges in which a builder may win recognition and sometimes prizes for themselves. On top of this, there is also a game mechanic that allows players to earn more gold and power for themselves and their faction. Background: The year is 615 AE (After Empire) and this is the dawn of a new era. For the first time in the history of the continent of Halos, new lands have been discovered. Even more shocking, the Halosians are not alone in the world. Once thought to be a flat plane, where monsters roamed the edges, the world is now believed by most geographers to be most certainly round. This was proven first with the discovery of Terraversa by the Mardierian explorer, Ardmond Basker. For 100 years the Mardierians have held Terraversa as a far off gateway, keeping all others out and not allowing the information of the world to the east, or New Terra, to permeate into the rest of Halos. At almost a 1000 miles from the next island in the Sea of Storms, the island remains a most crucial point on the voyage into the unknown. As time went on, other nations of the Madrice Peninsula began to search the seas for other islands and their potential riches. South of the Basker Islands, Corrington took Tiberia, an unforgiving rock just outside of the much more lucrative tropical zone. Oleon found LeBellan, the jewel of the Sea of Storms. LeBellan sits right inside the tropical zone, and produces sugar in vast quantities. 56 years ago Eslandola took possession of An Holli and An Toli, two smaller islands south of LeBellan, both sugar producing as well. Despite gaining footholds in the Sea of Storms, the other Madrician nations were unable to voyage beyond Terraversa. This all changed with the death of King Harln of Mardier, and the vast civil war that began in the country in 595 AE. Instead of looking to gain territory from Mardier’s mainland, the Eslandolans approached the Viceroy of Terraversa and paid him handsomely for permission to trade at the island. The Viscount took it further and allowed ALL nations to pay for the privilege to visit his island. Twenty years later, as the civil war continues, Terraversa has become a defacto independent state. The Viscount’s son, Miro Oldis, now runs the island, and his father’s policies live on. It is not certain if the Mardierians will reestablish their colony or not after the war, but it may be too late. In 597, intrepid Eslandolian explorer Cato Calrelli sailed east from Terraversa into the unknown. It was thought to be suicidal at the time, but he returned 70 days later with the news that he had found more of New Terra. He claimed the land for Eslandola, and soon the Kingdom of Eslandola was the leading nation in colonization. In 605, news circulated throughout the Madrice Peninsula that the Eslandolans had found gold on their island of Nellisa, and this set off a thirst for expansion and exploration never before seen. With Terraversa as a launching spot for new expeditions, Corringtonians, Oleanders, Eslandolans, along with some Garvans, Mardierans, and Carnovans made their way towards New Terra. Many found themselves unable to find supplies at Nellisa, the Eslandolans baring even some of their own from landing on the island. These vagabonds headed south, where a new isle was found, one with few resources, but great defensive harbors. Soon, the Sea Rats had a home. Angry that they had been dispossessed and had not found aid, many turned to vengeance on the Eslandolans by becoming pirates, and many of these pirates began to prey on all nations, and even their fellow pirate. Besides Terraversa, where the Atwi tribe lives, no new natives have been found yet. The islands beyond Terraversa have so far all had strange abandoned settlements upon them, and some sailors say that there is a whole new nation of people in these far waters, but no one has recorded seeing a non-Halosian or Atwi person yet. OW NORTH Series Map This brings us to the present. Oleon and Corrington have both issued rewards for the first permanent settlement “Beyond the Line” (beyond Terraversa). They are willing to bring their navies to New Terra if they only have a settlement to resupply at. Eslandola is calling for its own people to venture into the unknown and find wealth and fortune in the its name. But the Sea Rats lurk in all the waters of New Terra, waiting for opportunity, and despite the world seeming more round than ever, some say those old sea monsters still exist in the uncharted lands of the East. All factions await new souls to take on a role in the New World. Who will win in the end? Nobody knows, but for sure the sea will play a large role in deciding the fate of these rich new lands. She can be a cruel mistress to those who do not respect her, indeed, and the only guarantee in this world is that salt will run through your veins as you become part of the Brethren of the Brick Seas. The Crossing Series Mapd How this works: Builders pick a faction - this is your faction until the next “open period,” so make sure to pick a character you like. You will be able to change factions with enough personal influence points (PIPs), but that take a while. Your builds do not have to display your signature figure, but we encourage it! You also may build MOCs in other faction’s territory, so building is not limited to one style. There will be an “Era” of story and challenges, which will end with winners being determined in a few different categories. The contests and stories told during an era will influence the map, the history of the world, and future challenges. When a era is completed, points will be reset, but Factions and builders will keep their “gold doubloons.” (DBs) Builders and factions alike seek fortune. This project setting revolves around two currencies that are earned by building and winning competitions. This is the economy of the project. We understand that not every builder will want to play this game, and a builder can opt out of playing altogether, or only participating in the game when they choose. Free Builds that enhance the community’s story are always welcome. Even if a builder opts out of playing the "Economic Game System" (EGS), their freebuilds will earn their faction Doubloons and Factions Influence Points. Please see the rules thread for more details on how the economy works. Factions: The Kingdom of Eslandola STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Empire of Corrington STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Empire of Oleon STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Sea Rats STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs What you need to do now: Take a look at the faction threads. Pick a side and sign up in the faction thread with your signature figure (sig fig). It helps to have a back story! Can I have more than one character? Yes! Although one should be your sig fig and your main character, you can have as many other characters as you wish. The world needs populated after all! A starting challenge: This is open to everyone to complete once, and 25DBs will be awarded to the builder for completing the task. Build your sig fig and place them in a setting in our world. It can be in the colonies, in the motherland, at sea, anything you would like, but make sure to show the figure clearly and demonstrate the profession you have chosen for them in some way. (IE: if you decided to play an explorer, maybe you will place them on the bow of a ship looking out to sea with a spy glass.) Any profession that existed during the enlightenment is fine, along with a few other professions that would be a reasonable fit. If you are playing in the EGS, then there are a few character traits that you may want to consider here. How are scores kept? Each month, a pinned thread will help us keep score. After you complete a build (which should have its own thread, no matter if it is a free build, a duel, or a challenge build) you need to post in this score keeping thread and use a leadership-supplied link to a webform to help us keep score. In the thread, post your name, faction, and a link to your build (and the challenge it belongs to) in the thread. Please only use one post per topic, and just edit the thread when you build something else. At the end of the month, a project leader will tally up the scores and update the “Hall of Fame and Score” post for each faction. Please be patient for updates, we are not being paid for this. Scores will be displayed as follows: Name: DBs, PIPs, (PIPs achieved this cycle) IE: Skaforhire: 5DB, 5PIPs, (2PIPs) Current faction score is kept by adding all member’s totals within the parenthesis minus any expenditures the faction has made during the cycle. What can be bought with points and doubloons? A lot. The list will grow over time with more specifics, but since we are just launching this project, here are some of the examples without specific details: DBs: Position within trading guilds, rank in certain factions, a letter of marque to join another factions war against a third faction, a licence to sail a vessel in the raiding action, gamble, etc… FIPs: A newly discovered island, win a war between factions, buy DBs for the total score, open up a new portion of the map just for your faction for a few months, etc… The Map: The map is a part of the storytelling mechanism. As you can see, it is not totally defined yet. This will change as time goes on. New portions of the New World (and some of the Old) will be uncovered through events, challenges, and other parts of the project. New islands will be claimed, older territories will be taken in war, and the map will stay dynamic throughout the story. Builders will have the map revealed to them over time, and they will help decide what lands are conquered. With that said, the first part of our story will take place in New Terra. Your character should probably have some feasible connection that would lead them to that region, or it may be hard to really participate in the early challenges. A baker back in Eslandola’s capitol city is probably going to have little interaction with things going on in New Terra. We will eventually have challenges that happen on the mainland, and different story events “back home,” but we are emphasizing the pirate theme and its nature primarily in the first part of this project. Once a firm piratical lore and history is established, more aspects of Enlightenment era politics, war making, and commerce will emerge. 21. While sailing to Jameston an altercation had taken place in the open waters between a Sea Rat convoy and a Romantica (Prio) convoy. When the Sea Rat convoy reached port they had a ship in tow repairs being made as they berthed. Captian Larvey of The Drunken Monkey Purchased two slips from the Harbor Master The Log read as follows: Capt. Larvey [SR] The Drunken Monkey [monkey figurehead] 4 days paid Capt. Larvey [SR] The Palmetto [golden figurehead] 4 days paid Later that day the Prio convoy reached Jameston with heavy battle damage. Capitaine La'Douche sought out the authorities. Knowing the Corrish stance on Piracy he hopped to see them all swinging from the gallows before he left port. In the Jameston Constables office: La'Douche: (Bursts though the door) Constable I would like to report a crime! Sergeant: Just what is it you would claim Sir? La'Douche: An act of out and out Piracy! Sergeant: Where did this act take place? La'Douche: East of Trador on way to this Port. La'Douche: Pirates fell upon my ships and over took us ... We barely made it out alive. Then they forced me and my crew into a single long boat and made off with my vessel. Sergeant: They showed quarter? Thats odd th..... La'Douche:(cutting the Sergeant off) Sir I have it on good faith that they have arrived in this very port! What do you intend to do! Sergeant: Its late Im sure they will be good and drunk tonight being first night in port. I will speak with the harbor master tomorrow to see if any ships have made berth fitting your description. La'Douche: I want them hanged! Sergeant: If the description matches and you can identify them then I will Arrest them and im sure they will be found guilty in court. If it is how you say. Even later that night: Hearing a little bird whisper in his ear that the Corrish Authorities planned to seize his ships and Imprison him and his crew. Also knowing Corringtons' reputation for hanging Pirates even if there was no more evidence other than here say . . . Capitan Larvey decided they had out lived their welcome in Jameston. Back at the docks: Capitan Larvey: Machete me boy! Machete: Aye Capitan? Larvey: We sail at first light, have the dry stores and rations secure and stowed! We need ALL ships in the fleet ready to make way. Machete: Aye Sir but why we just made port tis morn? Larvey: The Prio Capitan is claiming we attacked them ... Machete: (interrupting) Tis a LIE Sir out and out fallacy! Larvey: Aye be that as it may, it matters none, they intend to seize our ships and lock us all up. Machete: We can fight this Sir they were the aggressors sailing right through or floatila with no regard ... You were right to fire that warning shot. Larvey: Aye but how do we prove they opened fire and we simply responded ... Nay they see us as pirates ... And I be quite fond of me neck remaining unbroken! We sail at first light, those to drunk to sail will be left behind. Those too drunk to fulfill his duties will be thrown over. I need me crews hearty me boy we have Four ships to sneak out of here. Machete: Aye Sir I'll pass the word around to snuff the rum early. Larvey: Aye make it so. The Sea Rat crews worked feverishly through the night and by the time first light broke the Sea Rat fleet was twelve miles out singing "What will we do with a drunken sailor what will we do ..." Meanwhile back in town: Capitaine La'Douche met up with the Sergeant first thing accompanied and him and two privates to the Docks. La'Douche: Harbormaster! Have you had any ships that fit the description of a C2 with a monkey figurehead towing a C3 with a golden idol figurehead with a broken mast? Harbormaster: (reading log) ahh yes here they are a Capitan Larvey paid four days up front ... slip nine and ten ... Right this way La'Douche: These slips are empty! Harbormaster: I swear they were here when I made rounds last night ... (looking at log) slips nine and ten ... Sergeant: Harbormaster if you aided these pirates in any way I'll see you hang. 1st private: (to second private) so we don't get to arrest anyone? Sergeant: Not today boys ... Not today. ------- Just a little story to explain how the Palmetto came to be in my possession ... Special thanks to @kaiju, @Ayrlego,and @Bregir for allowing this story to happen. Comments are more than welcome ... I'm sorry for some of the pictures being fuzzy that's my poor quality mobile.
  22. “Mr. Horton,” Captain Matthew Hawes said as he crossed the gun deck of the old galleon. “How is the refit coming along?” “Slowly and expensively sir,” said Horton. “It seems more of her is rotted through than anticipated. At this rate, we’d likely been better served to have purchased a new ship outright.” “Perhaps, but this particular ship has something to offer that others cannot.” Captain Hawes said as he ran his hand along the grain of an old plank softened by the sea. Horton furrowed his brow. “What’s that sir?” Captain Hawes paused before turning to leave. “A story to tell.” I am currently building a Class 5 or 6 galleon named "The Rosa Lee" and since it is taking more time (and costing far more money) than anticipated, I figure I'd post several little narratives along the way to show off the progress I've made thus far. More stories and images coming soon!
  23. Willem Guilder, Admius Legistrad of Eslandola’s Colonial Council, could not believe that he was still in King’s Harbour, months after the Grand Ball. Living in a rented manor house, he now found himself working out of a room that had previously been a small chapel. Perhaps he should pray to return home, he mused to himself. Guilder had read through the latest news on the Prio situation. When all this had started a few months ago, it appeared to be a routine case of some pirates making off with the small Prio trade ship Palmetto. But then Prio had retaliated, sinking one of the pirates and capturing another. Bastion then detained two Prio ships in their port, claiming unpaid bar expenses by the crews. And now another Prio ship had been captured, this time the Prince Alex, flagship of the Duchy’s trade fleet. Eslandola naval reports advised traders to avoid the South Prio Sea if at all possible, and prominent Eslandola citizens were throwing fuel on the fire in both directions. As the director of a trade company, Guilder knew this sort of stuff was bad for business. Piracy is always part of the equation when sailing the seas, but an escalation wouldn’t help anyone. And while Lord Prio may have the right to feel aggrieved, he is not without blame and risks a fight that could send his fledgling nation into ruin. Balance needed to be restored. So Guilder sat down at his desk – a table, really – in his makeshift office in this rented manor house on a Corrish island miles from his Eslandolan home, and penned two identical letters: To Lord Alexander Prio, Grand Duke of Isle Romantica and Authorities of the Settlement of Bastion, and the Happy Bastion Barfly Club Dear Sirs, I have watched with much dismay these past months as your disputes at sea have inflamed passions throughout the region. I write to you in the hope that, as a third party outside the particulars of your encounters, I may offer mediation service to restore the Brick Seas to the status quo of some months earlier. As such, here are the details of my proposal: - The Prio ships currently detained in Bastion, the Peacock and Pearl, be allowed to leave port and return home. - The ship Palmetto be recognized as a legal prize, now property of the Sea Rats. - The status of the trade ship Prince Alex, as well as the status of funds owed in Bastion for actions of the Prio crews, be determined in a hearing to be held in a neutral location, judged by a panel of both Sea Rats and others. I offer this as a means of bringing hostilities to an end, while allowing both parties to plead their case and be heard. I anxiously await your replies. Humbly yours, Willem Guilder --- When finished, Guilder summoned one his personal guard into the makeshift office. “Sir?” inquired the Eslandolan swordsman. “I have letters here of the utmost importance. See to it that these go out on the fastest ships available heading to Alexport and Bastion.” “Bastion, sir? I’m not aware of any ships in port headed there.” “Yes, of course, you’re right. Well, then, I’ll have to charter one. Take this letter for Alexport and get it on its way. I’ll make arrangements for the Bastion letter myself.” “Very good, sir,” and the guard was off on his task. As Guilder got up from the desk, he thought to himself, “Maybe I’ll charter myself a ship back to Weelond while I’m at it…” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OOC: Leadership and the Sea Rats have agreed to resolve the Prio conflict with a good old-fashioned BoBS Build-Off! We’ll need builders for each side, exact number and subject of the builds still to be determined. Among the issues that will be decided are how much, if any, of the “bar tab” should be paid, and whether the Prince Alex should be awarded to the Sea Rats as a legal prize or returned to Prio. Details for the build-off will be posted as soon as they are finalized.
  24. Dramatis Personae: Previously, A quiet day at the unsuspecting Oleon port... Little do they know that they are about to be pirates! Fortunately, not all is lost! The fortress fires its cannons! Or is it cannon? I can never tell when to put an "s" at the end of plural cannon(s). YOU SANK MY BATTLESHIP!!! We're not playing that game! This is BrickseasHammer 1.8K! And what's with these unpainted grey models? I didn't have enough time to finish them before we arrived here...wherever this place is... Ahem...Currently, at The Naval Academy wargame store in Bastion... Who's that? I'm the narrator. No, you're a fake wanna be writer who is too stupid to realize you suck. Er...moving on...Suddenly, Oleon reinforcements show up! Wait! What happened to my turn? You deployed, then I got to move and fire. And now I'm deploying my dreadnought, which can move and attack the turn it arrives. What?! How's that fair?! can have a yellow cheese slope to represent how cheesy and overpowered this unit is. My dreadnought fires it's flame attack on the nearest sloop. Meanwhile, my Dreadnought's sorceror hero captain casts a time warp spell on the sloop that was already on fire from my fortress attack. There's magic in this game?! And flame attacks?! ship that got time warped...that's not a sloop...that's a Goliath class ship of the line with 84 cannon...or is it cannons? I was just using the sloop model. You're using a proxy model?!?! Hey, these models are expensive and I'm just a graduate student! Just be glad I didn't resort to using rocks and pebbles! Anyways, it got time warped and it's your only unit, so you lose a turn. Now, I summon a sea dragon which uses a freeze attack! Of course... And you've lost your last ship. Good game. Whatever. Hold on a second. Based on the previous post, weren't we supposed to be sailing somewhere so you can do some secret thing to win over that idiot, Alois? First, Alois is not an idiot! Second...that's true. I wonder why we stopped at Bastion to play this game? Because I felt like it. Aaaaand that is why you suck as a writer. The MOC for that story is even finished! You uploaded onto Flickr last month!, when did you grow a neckbeard? Comments and criticisms are all welcome!

    [SR-FB] Rooms to Let

Just a short way from the docks in Fatu Hiva lays a smallish boarding house that has become a regular haunt for the sailors of the FTA. With comfortable beds, a pleasant host, and fair rates it is no wonder that they choose this boarding house every time they make port. Here a sailor enjoys the peacefulness of his back room. Every room comes complete with horse hair bed, dresser, shelves, and a pot to piss in. (disclaimer: there is not a chamber maid to empty your pot so it is your responsibility) OOC: Since I am away from my bricks for an unknown amount of time I decided I would download LDD and give it a go. After a rather frustrating first couple hours and a few PM's to @Professor Thaum and @Bart (Thanks again for the help fellas) I figured out how to maneuver and manipulate the bricks the way I wanted. This marks my very first build in LDD (not counting the playing around trying to figure it out build lol) Comments and Criticism are greatly Appreciated as I want to improve my LDD skills ... also this is my first use of BlueRender no settings changed from the installed version
