  1. Colony Name: Tortuga Ownership: Sea Rats Location: Sea Turtle Island (Island #10, West Prio Sea ) Island Description: Much of the coast of this Island disappears completely below the waves at high tide, and the surrounding sea is very shallow, allowing only smaller ships to near the island, with exception to a small rocky portion to the northern side. The Island interior--that which stays above water at all times--is dominated by coconut palms and other salt-tollerant species. The small island is the hatching site for innumeral sea turtles, multiple times per year.
  2. Welcome to the Punto Sur Biergarten, the location of choice for all your Oktoberfest celebrations. Drinks, food, music.....we have it all! Come in, sit down, grab a pint with your mates, and partake in all the mouthwatering morsels our kitchen prepares. Steak, brätwurst, turkey legs, laugenbrezeln, biscuits...all of our food is prepared by our owners (the Schroeder family). And to wet your whistle, we pour only the finest brews and beverages from throughout the New Haven Sea, highlighted by our home-brewed keg of Dastardly Dirk's Doppelbock. For entertainment, our very own band Das Tuba commands the stage, performing some of their hit songs "Punto Sur State of Mind", "Tubaback", and "Twilight of the Beer Gods". Set aside your worries, grievances, faction rivalries (unless someone insults your mother, then fisticuffs are permitted....as appears to be the case between a few inebriated soldiers ). Enjoy the company of friends and strangers alike, stuff your bellies, drink 'til you can't see straight, plan your next move on Terraversa, and enjoy this glorious Oktoberfest season. Once you enter our gates, you'll never want to leave! Front gate: Overall View: The Kitchen: Stage Area & Tables The Bar Area A giddy Sea Rat looks on in glee as two drunken soldiers settle their dispute with some fisticuffs. Also, a hook makes for a great sausage utensil over the hot grill To be Licensed as a Large Artisan in Punto Sur. ____________________________________________________________ I did not plan on doing a digital build for the Oktoberfest challenge, but at the beginning of the month, I started a new job, and for my first two weeks I am training at a location a few hours from home, so I am away from my bricks. However, being away from home with nothing but work occupying my day, I have plenty of time to mess around on Stud.io, so I decided to go all in for the contest. I did my best to capture the colors and style set by @Capt Wolf in his trading post build, while incorporating both classic and modern Pirates elements. I also threw in some Oktoberfest flair (at least what Google tells me its looks like, don't hang me if its wrong ), and a variety of characters seen in the BoBS universe. I spent waaaayyyy too much time on this, but it was a blast creating the scene, and a challenge to translate some techniques to digital building. Enjoy!
  3. Isla de Barro stands apart from any other island of the New Haven seas, due it its unique soil composition. Just below the topsoil sits a foul-smelling yellow loam, which as it erodes, stains the beaches of the island yellow. The natives of Isla de Barro have developed used for the soil over the years, namely as a bug repellent, by mixing it into mud and smearing it over their bodies. Even the hungriest of mosquitoes wouldn't dare attempt to bite though the soil. In his travels though the islands, Neville Robertson, an avid Chemist and Alchemist, had long hoped to land on Isla de Barro, and study the unique makeup of its soil, and its potential uses. Now, after much experimentation, he had presented his findings to the Black Wolf Company, and received a grant to establish a refining factory. Why? For in his experiments, Neville had found the primary ingredient in the soil (and that which gave off the foul smell) was indeed the Devil's Gold, more commonly known as sulfur. Which, being one of the 3 primary ingredients in gunpowder, made it a precious and valuable commodity. The interior of the island was home to vast mudpits of the foil earth, which made harvesting it exceptionally easy. As these pits were on the claimed land of the natives, the BWC struck an agreement paying the natives to dig and transport the mud to the refining factory. The soil, when delivered to the factory, was first dumped into the holding pit, where any larger clumps were broken up into much smaller pieces. It was then shoveled into barrels. The barrels of soil were then carried up to the refining vat. They were dumped in the vat, and stirred until any impurities (dirt, sand, plants) were burned off, leaving pure refined sulfur. You can see Neville Robertson here with an oar, standing on the edge of the vat, mixing the soil thoroughly to avoid burning and ensure an even mixing. Once refined, the sulfur was poured into the cooling molds, where it was allowed to cool and dry completely. As it dried, the sulfur was smoothed and packed down into dense "cakes". Once cool, the cakes of sulfur were cut down to more manageable sizes, noted in the production log, and prepared to be sold off at the BWC Warehouse. To be licensed as a medium Factory in New Nassau. _______________________________________________________________ Here are a few more full shots for anyone interested Its been a minute since I've sat down and planned out a proper build. I've had this one in mind since I started settling New Nassau, (I took inspiration from the South American jungle drug labs you always see in movies lol), and adapted it to fit how I needed. Finding photos of period correct sulfur processing practices proved to be a challenge, so I kind of just made up my own version of the process based on some descriptions I found. Even though its fairly simple, I prototyped each component of the build a few times before I settled on the ones seen.
  4. The Sea Rats Nickname: Pirates Colors: Black, Yellow, Medium Blue Quick Glance: The Sea Rats are a rag tag group of scoundrels and rogues, who have found true freedom on the open sea. United under the common cause of self-determination, and defiance of Imperial rule, these folk heed no laws but those of the Pirate Code. (Which is really more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules, rather loose-like, you know.) These men and women are pirates, smugglers, con-men, and any kind of lawless scallywag which you can conceive of, but there are also rebel leaders, defectors from decadence, dispossessed traders and explorers, members of conquered nations, and any who find themselves disenfranchised from their societies. There are those who take advantage of the lawlessness to conduct crimes with impunity. well, actually that later category would likely count for most people. Membership: Sea Rats is open for members. Any man, woman, child, or what-have-you can be a sea rat! You needn't make your den in the Nest of Thieves, nor need you affiliate with other sea rats at all! We're the scourge of these seas, and swear fealty to no nation! If you'd like to captain a pirate ship and pillage and plunder, and riffle and loot the trade routes of the Empires, then join the Sea Rats! If you wish to take your crew on a roaring rampage of revenge against those nations that betrayed you, or perhaps your Quartermaster who led a mutiny against you, then join the Sea Rats! If you wish to swindle and connive, and con your way up in the world, then join the Sea Rats! If you've tired of oppressive reign of Kings and Queens and wish to make your own way in the world, then join the Sea Rats! Have adventure in your heart, a sword in your hands, and the salt wind in your hair? Then you're a Sea Rat, me hearty! To join, just sign up in this thread with an introduction post that shows your sigfig. A little background goes a long way, so we appreciate any backstory you would like to present with the fig! Reasons to Join: Sea Rats have a number of unique rules that other factions don't, some which are centered specifically around player piracy (known as 'black flagging'): 1) Under the Table: Sea Rats only pay 70% of a ship license and 50% of land property costs (except mines and forts). 2) Looters: Sea Rats are always managing to scrounge up valuable bits to sell for a coin or two. Upon capture, Sea Rats receive 20 DBs per cargo point of the captured ship as loot. Players from other factions do not gain any value for a capture beyond the ship itself. This replaces previous looting rules. 3) Results Driven: The black flag pirate crews of the Sea Rats often find provisions and supplies by... alternative means. Sea Rats pay no upkeep for black-flagged ships. 4) Underground Economy: All un-MOC'd ships captured by NPC Pirates and Black Flag players can now be condemned (i.e. sold) to the Prize Court for a value of 50%-75% of their regular license value. The rules for non-black flag players selling to the prize court remains unchanged. 5) Sea Rats earn an extra 30% yield on Artisan businesses. <- under review 6) No taxes! For those still uncertain of what faction to chose or how to sign up in a minute, we have some simple instructions here, which pretty much sum up everything Index A Detailed Look at the Sea Rats (this post) Settlements (second post) Membership (second post) A DETAILED LOOK at the SEA RATS 1. Leadership Susieh Cheng (@dr_spock, Co-Leader) Susieh Cheng loves sharp pointy objects. She doesn't like talking about her past like that incident with her eye. Rumours have it that she was kidnapped as a child by pirates. Having been raised by pirates, she developed a taste for gold and booty. Whatever you do, do not cross her. Those who do end up as shark bait after seasoned with 14 spices and stuffed with stale bread. Doctor Thaum - (@Professor Thaum, Co-Leader) The Pirate Council The Pirate Council is a group of influential captains and business folk, and here they hold their kangaroo courts. There is a certain honor among the thieves, and the most prominent business owners and pirates meet to discuss how best to conduct business and keep the people happy. Whenever there are enough issues the Council reconvenes to discuss them, but apart from that everyone does their own thing, and the most notorious pirate amongst them (currently Captain Reynard le Roublard) collects tithes for the greater good of them all... incase Corrington or Oleon comes knocking at their ports and they need a show of force to defend their freedom. These are the free folk, bound to no master but those they chose, and they do as they please, when they please to whomever or with whomever they please. Kind of anarchic-like. 2. Landscape The Port of Bastion MOC by Commander Red Hat Bastion is a town on the rocky shores of the Nest of Thieves populated by vagabonds and rogues, as well as the staunchly independent and dispossessed, the chaotic town is where the pirates have free port and may sell their ill begotten loot. There is not much of an organized structure to things on The Nest of Thieves, so Bastion grew without ordinance, leading to shoddy construction in some parts, and a lot of crime in the streets - but the people are tough, so they don’t really mind all that much. MOC by Darkdragon 3. Military Army: Sea Rats have no uniforms, so they wear whatever they see fit in the morning or nothing. It is recommended that you sail under a black flag, but if that is somehow not possible any other color will do the job! Navy: The Sea Rats have many ships in their fleet, which they rent out to their members for dastardly activities on the high seas. Apply for permission to use them in the Sea Rat group PM. Active Faction Ships Are: Corporal Milton - Class 5 warship Misfortune's Doom - Class 5 warship Hades' Tuba - Class 5 warship HMS Pendragon - Class 5 warship Godfreed Faulk - Class 2 trader MOC by Captain Braunsfeld 4. History and Culture Brief: The Sea Rats are a mixed bunch, but for the most part they consist of pirates, rogues, and thieves. Discovering the island soon afterwards to be known as The Nest of Thieves, the Sea Rats settled down and made its rocky shores their home, building the stronghold of Bastion on its nearly impregnable rocky eminences. Since then the Sea Rats have thrived in their new home, and piratical and other business is at its finest! Detailed: Unlike the Kings and Queens of the old world, Pirate leadership is dynamic, and mercurial – it is anarchistic, not dynastic. The top pirate or individual with the most personal influence gets to boss the others around until they themselves are deposed. The Sea Rats are comprised of a true hodge-podge of peoples from a variety of Nations, all of whom have forsworn their prior allegiances in favor of a free life of self-determination and self-reliance. Many of the original Sea Rats were those dispossessed by their nations during the first great rush for the new world. These betrayed sailors, clinging to the promise of wealth and glory, turned south from the closed gates of Nelissa, and, along with many old rogues who had earned their salt in the old world by piratical activities and such-like, settled the rocky shores of the island that would become "The Nest of Thieves." The city of Bastion was founded here on the skeleton of a former Eslandolan fishing village. With the great diversity of newcomers, no one nation could hold dominance here, and instead, a council was formed of the most prominent captains amongst them, many former Privateers and pirates of the Old World. This was the first Pirate High Council, where they determined that Bastion would remain forever free of the influence of the tyrannical empires, and that no one person could be their master! This pact laid the groundwork for Bastion to become the wretched hive of scum and villainy it has become, and united the Sea Rats as a people. In the absence of law and order, the streets of Bastion are in a constant state of chaos, with infamous pirate lords freely roaming the street, and pickpockets on every corner... but the people are a tough, resolute bunch, and despite the anarchy, business booms from the riches brought in by the pirates, and a healthy – if you like that kind of healthiness – economy of pirate raids, and smugglers has formed. Diplomacy: The Sea Rats are pretty indifferent when it comes to other factions. Of course, this type of indifference means something more like, "They see a ship and attack, without bothering to check whose flag waves from the mast head," rather than an indifferent kind of indifference. Neither do the Sea Rats particularly relish the idea of hanging by their necks until they be dead, so they naturally study to avoid any such unappetizing contingencies resulting from getting caught by a different faction which they had been preying on. (Note: Relationships are judged on a 1 to 5 scale; Very Friendly, Friendly, Indifferent, Unfriendly, Hostile) Sea Rat's relationship with: Corrington: Indifferent Eslandola: Indifferent Oleon: Indifferent Other nations relationship with Sea Rats: Corrington: Indifferent Eslandola: Indifferent Oleon: Indifferent 5. I hated it when he called me that. Richard was my real name, and that stupid nickname was another thing that mother of his left to him. No inheritance, just a contamination of our family, the noble Fortescues, and we would no longer be considered as one of the other regal, powerful families, because of fathers drinking problem and that women he had picked up. 'This is something to do with you, right?' He asked. 'No,' I denied his accusation, but he heard the false tone in my voice and he knew I was lying. I pushed up the panel. It was quiet. I emerged. As I pulled my self up, I gripped my cutlass. A second later Sean pulled himself up, and he pulled out his flintlock. 'What have you done?' he said. I stepped on his hand, kicked his pistol away and bolted. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sean I pulled myself up, retrieved my pistol, and began to walk through the jungle, and then I realised. Dick had planned to kill me and Father's soldiers, take the treasure and then buy up the company. It was obvious that my Half-Brother had no faith in Father. It made perfect sense. Except - who killed Father's Soldiers? In the next clearing, there lay a man bleeding to death. In his chest was a huge machete of a muted iron tone. I ran over to him. Bending over him, I asked him what had happened. What I could hear came from underneath a hacking, violent cough, and he was obviously choking on his own blood. He had no hope. 'Beware... The red mask... The... Messenger of.. He....' And then he was dead. Sean walked further down, until he walked onto the beach. Out in the azure waters of the bay was the Brig that had brought them here. It was burning. This was no longer a fight between two brothers, it was a fight between right and wrong. Someone who will stop at nothing to get what he wanted, and the Man who was willing to put his life on the line to stop him. ____________ To be continued...... Edit: this is FB 2, not 1.
  6. Previously: Part 1 https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/179698-sean-greybeards-story-part-1-guilt-is-a-powerful-thing/ It has been raining for a while when Florian began heading back to the estate. It was foggy and he could hardly see, but he knew his way around, and he had been going to the estate for longer than he could remember. He was getting too old for this. As He approached the building, like usual, it in no way portended to what was in it. It gave of a stately, important vibe, but Florian knew all too well that what was inside was quite different, rotting, poisoned even. When he reached the big double doors, he was worried. Master would be angry. He knocked, and entered. The room gave of a faint gray glow. Master was facing away from him, but in the tall black mirror, Florian could see him gritting his teeth. He held his breath. 'Master, may I speak?' he said quietly. Master did not turn to face him as he approached , his face turning away so Florian could no longer see it in the mirror. 'Yes. What news do you bring? ' Masters voice was cold, as if his words came not from his voice box but from his poisoned, cruel soul. 'Greybeard has survived.' Florian was fearful, his body wracked with sweats. 'He has a new ship, the cutter Sea Wench.' Master hissed angrily. When he spoke again his voice was dripping with vindictive rage. 'Sean still owes me. I will kill him. I will have my revenge.' Florian spoke again.' Sir, the Black Captains Brethren are a tightly knit group. They will not allow you to take one of their brothers The Phoenix will be angry if you interfere.' There was a silence, which seemed to last for decades. When Master spoke again it was with chilling calm. 'Loosen the knots until we can get to Sean.'
  7. 01 August, 620 Tortuga Professor Octavio Thompson, and his small band of helpers disembarked from their longboat, and walked a few paces up the beach. The Professor stopped, and turned to his companions and said "perfect.....it appears we are first to arrive on Tortuga for the Sandcastle contest. And according to my calculations, this very spot on the beach is the perfect location to build our castle. Its properly distanced from the water, while still close enough to carry our water buckets. Addressing the two monkeys, he continued "Ulysses, Homer. I want you two to begin unloading the boat." Turning to the other man, "McClanahan! Pay attention! You are to help them out. As the new man on the team, your job is to watch and observe their every move. You may have studied architecture back on Halos, but you have absolutely no field experience. Make like a sponge and soak it all in." McClanahan, looking slightly annoyed, turned to follow the two primates to the boat. The three began unloading the longboat of its cargo, mostly barrels, along with some tools. As they stacked up the last of the barrels, McClanahan remarked to Ulysses and Homer "What is the point of all these barrels? I thought this was a sand castle contest?" Hearing this, Prof. Thompson cried out "You're a buffoon McClanahan! Haven't you been paying attention?" Hearing the word "buffoon", the two monkeys turned and looked at the professor, who quickly continued "I said buffoon, NOT BABOON. I know you are not baboons, I just called McClanahan here a Buffoon." With the boat unloaded, and the Professor occupied with this notes, McClanahan quickly shaped up for himself a chair of sand, cracked open a bottle of rum, and plopped down for a break. The monkeys, seeing him sitting, grabbed some fruit and began eating. The Professor, looking up from his notes and seeing the crew relaxing, dropped his book and let out a shriek. "No no no no....what in the blazes are you doing? Did I say it was break time? You're really trying my patience McClanahan! Can't you just find something useful to do?" With that he stomped off down the beach to calm himself down. An hour later, Octavio returned to the camp. He was met by the crew, proudly smiling standing in front of a towing sand structure. McClanahan said "you wanted me to do something productive Professor, what do you think?" Professor Thompson, already turning a shade of red, shouted "Are you daft McClanahan? That's not a sandcastle! You're an absolute buffoon McClanahan! (he quickly looked at Homer and Ulysses "NOT baboon!"). Get your head in the game boy! We don't have time for your pretty little sand paintings and towers. I'm a professor! I taught architecture at the Royal Academy of Sciences in Corrington." Hearing this, the monkeys began snickering, and Homer turned to Ulysses and said (in their own language) "what he's leaving out, is he kidnapped the real Architecture professor, and impersonated him for a whole semester before he was found out. He was chased out of the country, and can never go back. He's not even a real professor!" Hearing this, Ulysses began laughing hysterically. "I've had enough" exclaimed Prof Thompson. "I'm going to town to secure my room and the rest of the supplies needed. Ulysses and Homer, tear down this ridiculous tower. McClanahan, take this book and just maybe you can learn something from it." With that, he picked up his sack and tramped off the beach towards town, muttering and talking to himself "I can't believe I'm stuck with this lot. All of the people in New Nassau, and the best builders are a pair of monkeys, and a boy with a wild imagination. I swear to Zeus, after this I'm going to become a monk"..... _________________________________________________________________________ This is my submission for Category A, for the first ever Tortuga Sand Castle Contest. With the ever comedic Doctor Thaum organizing the contest, I decided to take a break from the more serious story telling, and inject some humor and comedy into the build. I took inspiration from some of the good Doctor's notorious phrases and sayings, particularly with Callaghan Can't wait to see what everyone else has in store!
  8. Presiding over an execution was not how Corwin Ragnarsson envisioned spending his first day as Mayor of New Nassau. But the events of the previous night required a swift action to be made, to reassure the citizens of New Nassau of their safety, and maintain order in the streets. A man had been caught breaking into the fort in the town, and on his person were found documents detailing the military strength and layout of the town, along with observations on possible weak points in the defenses. During aggressive "questioning", the man would give nothing but his alias "the fox". He would not divulge his employer or any other details about himself. Ragnarsson was summoned, along with a tribunal, and with the accused spy offering no legitimate defense to his name, he was convicted of being a foreign intelligence agent, and summarily sentenced to death, by hanging. As he walked up the the gallows, the grim realization of what was about to take place come over "the Fox". He tried to speak to his captors, but was met with stoic silence. His fate had been decided and sealed that morning. Nothing could be done now. As the realization crept in, he began crying and balling unintelligable things. Once on the gallows, with the noose placed around the spy's neck, the head executioner, a stern man dressed in a black robes and cloak, faced the crowd and addressed them. "Citizens of New Nassau! Before you today we have a weasel of a man, found guilty of espionage, committed to do harm to YOU and your families. The safety of this town, island, and its people is of the utmost importance to the government. Let today serve as a warning to any others who wish to commit any act harmful to this city or its residents. This settlement was started with the ideology that men could live free of tyranny and corrupt imperialist governments. Any actions that hinder this goal will be met with swift and hard justice, regardless of your flag or affiliation." With this words said, the crowd previously being quiet erupted with shouts of "down with the imperialists!" "for the free people of Terra Nova!" "death to the spy!" With that, the Executioner stepped back to the lever which operated the gallows. "Any last words?" He offered the man, who mumbled something incoherent, before sinking into silence. The next sound heard was of the lever being pulled, and the trap door on the gallows swinging down, followed by a gasp from the man, as the air was squeezed out of is writhing and twitching body. It took only a short time for him to completely still, and the executioner pronounced him dead. "Leave him up until sundown, then feed him to the crows" The crowd fell to silence, and slowly dispersed. Ragnarsson remarked to his companion "I don't particularly care for these sort of things, but in this case, it was an absolute necessity. I'd much rather meet a man face to face in battle, than to watch him die in a way such as this. But these are the times we are in, and the safety of our small settlement is of primary importance now. Lets hope today discourages any more agents of ill-will from preying on New Nassau." A few more photos of the scene:
  9. June 620, El Oleonda With their contract to hunt down Lotii forces fulfilled, the remaining Black Fang Rangers rendezvous at their predetermined rally point, and begin the trek through the jungle back to the western shores of the island, where their transport ship is waiting to return them to New Nassau. Each Ranger carries in his pack the canine teeth of every Lotii soldier killed by their hand. While more civilized people may be appalled by such an action, the Rangers do this to provide proof of their kills, for both each other, and for any possible benefactor, in this case the Carnite empire. Unit: Black Fang Rangers Type: Rangers, specializing in guerilla and irregular warfare Uniform: Black jacket with yellow trim, green undershirt and trousers, brown wide-brimmed hat. Officers substitute black sleeves for green. Equipment: Brown/black/gray packs, latest model of flintlock muskets, hatchet or machete for cutting through brush and jungle, secondary melee weapon such as a cutlass or knife. Unit Description and History: The Rangers are the only unit of the Black Wolf Company comprised solely of native Vikendians. Its ranks are filled with skilled trackers, forestmen, and guerilla fighters among the Amarok people. Each member was hand selected by their leader, Gunnar Haraldson. Haraldson is widely regarded as the best tracker in Vikendia, and is a brilliant tactician. He still dresses in traditional Vikendian ranger garb. Haraldson's reputation commands a deep respect from his fellow rangers. All of his men are devoted to him, and follow without question. For Ragnarrson and the Black Wolf Company, the Rangers are the most trusted and valued unit in the company. With only native Amarok soldiers, they are above reproach and cannot be tempted by meddling imperialists to spy or otherwise divulge valuable information. The Rangers operate independent of the rest of the Black Wolf Company forces, often deploying ahead of the main forces, or on side missions to distract the enemy. Their guerilla warfare skills make them exceptional at disrupting enemy supply lines and convoys, along with planning ambushes and sabatoge missions. Although recently arrived in Terra Nova, the Rangers quickly acclimated to the warmer climate and jungles, as other than temperature, they are very similar to the dense forests of Vikendia. Many of the Rangers are veterans of multiple wars in Vikendia. Because of the tribal makeup of the continent, there was almost always some sort squabble occurring at a given time between the many clans. For the Amarok, the most recent conflicts were the Great Nordian War, and the Invasion of the Laikan Peninsula. In both cases, the Amarok had to defend their homeland or property from a larger invading force, and utilized many ranger and guerilla units to wreak havoc on the invading enemy, eventually cutting off the bulk of the army leaving them without support to face the main Amarok forces. Haraldson forged his reputation during these conflicts, as a fearless warrior and tactician, fighting alongside Ragnarsson against their enemies. Being so far from home, without a reasonable supply of reinforcements, Haraldson has been keenly watching the training of the new recruits, looking for any that show promise to become rangers.... ___________________________________ The whole unit. 10. 22 May 620AE Location: The Rock After many months at sea, Commander Corwin Ragnarrson of the Black Wolf Company has landed on The Rock in the the Prio Sea. Taking advantage of the caves and tunnels that litter the island, the group has offloaded and stashed their supplies and chests of coin away from prying eyes, until suitable lodging can be sourced. A scouting mission revealed a small town to the north situated on a tiny island (Sereen Cay), which is where they are headed next. (Just a wee little build to kick off my BoBS journey. Took a break from my other builds to throw this together and start to set the narrative for the future plans). A Brief History of Corwin Ragnarrson and the Black Wolf: Little is known of these new arrivals, other than they hail from far shores across the Great Northern Sea, from the land of Vikendia. Stories tell the Vikendi were a great nation of warriors, raiders, and explorers in centuries past. However, since the fall of the Great Empire, the Vikendi were rarely were seen through the rest of Halos, short of a few traders, adventurers, and wanderers. The Black Wolf name is taken from the Amarok (Wolf) tribe of Vikendi to whom many expedition members belong. The Amarok worship the giant wolf god Fenris, who legend tells, led the ancestors of the Amarok out of the barren icy plains of Vikendia, to a small fertile penninsula, which they still occupy to this day. Officlal Black Wolf Expeditionary Group flag. Design may vary between military and civilian uses. Colors are black and yellow. Commander Corwin Ragnarrson is a man shrouded in mystery. Even his own men know only bits and pieces of his story. It is known he is of mixed Vikendi and Olean blood. His father, Ragnar, was a Vikendi trader who traveled to Eastern Halos. His mother Patricia, was the daughter of a prominent Olean Navy Captain. They fell in love, eloped to the countryside and not long after Corwin was born. When he was a young boy, both his parents died, and while he never speaks on it, many have concluded their deaths were at the hands of agents of the Order of The Faith, as Ragnarrson possesses a deep hatred of those who practice The Faith, and anyone who supports tyrannical Monarchies. After his parents death, young Corwin escaped to Corrington, where he was taken in by a compassionate merchant, and raised and received an education. As a young man, Ragnarrson one day disappeared from Corrington, and spent the next years wandering Halos before finally returning to Vikendia, and the Amarok. Now, years later, he has returned south again, to stake a claim for the Amarok in the new world....and possibly settle some old scores.
  11. The mysterious stranger had stayed on the Atoll after Discovering the City twich Can't Be Found unlest Yee know ware to look. While the men made camp on the Island known as Shipwreck Cove the stranger took a launch and ordered it rowed to the nearby Island known as Mermaid Tears. It was know that this was the most swampy and dangerous. Legend had it that there were several mermaid holes with in her shores. As the launch neared it's destination it was clear that this chain of islands was no new discovery for the stranger. It was also clear by the dilapidated smuggler's shack that they we're not the first to make camp here. Comments welcomed!

    Fire and blood!

28 September 619, Infero Pordejon, Fort San Millar The black flag of the rebels was still waving in the wind, but it was not going to last: the tides had turned. The tides had turned. After a long shelling with the few cannons available, the strong walls of Fort San Millar were finally breached, and the final assault began. The fort, once the pride of the Ashen Guard, had been occupied since the first days of disorders by a cruel group of smugglers: they made huge profits closing the port and profiting on the provisions, even if this caused a terrible famine and made violence explode in the streets. But finally the tides had turned, and the fort represented the last stronghold of the rebel pirates. By sure, the fort was intimidating, with 32 pounders towards the bay, sturdy walls and two of the sides right above vertical cliffs. However, as Tristan had realised studying the maps, the fort had not been projected to withstand a strong assault by land: some of the walls were too low and too exposed to artillery. He doubted that it was an error in the project: since a land attack could start only from Charlatan Bay itself, more probably, the Dark Bishop didn't want to transform the fort in an impregnable fortress for a rebel garrison… whatever the cause, Tristan was more than grateful for that. In that moment, Tristan heard the first musket salvos and the screams of the wounded men. It was time to move. He incited his men, an heterogeneous group of Oleander volunteers and local militiamen, and jumped on his boat. The battle plan was simple but, hopefully, effective: a frontal assault against the lowest wall, followed by a flanking attack from the cliffs, with boats and grappling hooks, to neutralize the cannons before they could be turned towards the parade ground. The hooks were thrown towards the parapet. There was no more time to think now: thirty minutes of fire and blood and everything would have been over, in a way or in the other. Tristan unsheathed the sword and shouted a war cry, followed by his men. That day, if Ares was with them, they would have seen the end of battle for Charlatan Bay. The battle for the external walls: To the breach! A barrel of gunpowder thrown by the defenders: In the parade ground: Counterattack of the defenders: A cannon and ammunitions: A bird's eye view: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fort San Millar was finally assaulted. This is probably my last build for this storyline, but the future of Charlatan Bay is still uncertain, and peace will be frail for a long time, so... who knows? Probably Tristan will leave for the North, the Great Alliance States, the ice and the steppes, for the desert of New Oleon, the woods of Varcoast or the Southern Seas. I hope you enjoyed my builds in this storyline, and the story itself. I did. Again, I have to thank @Kwatchi and @Gulagurag, even if probably they won't read this, for the great storyline of the Dark Bishop and Charlatan Bay. In many cases, my builds retrace theirs (Fort San Millar itself, for example), or things they wrote about the settlement.
  13. Late September 619, Infero Pordejon, a open market in Charlatan Bay Lowtown The Keegan treaty seemed like it had been only yesterday but in reality it had been almost two whole months since Keegans men had joined the ranks. Lowtown had been taken back through many skirmishes. The all that remained had been pushed back to a reinforced line on the road to the Fort. Gustaf's Men now grossly outnumbered Tristan's volunteers and uniforms were commissioned from one of the local skilled tailors. This was done to necessitate a grand boost in moral and to create unity amongst the men as this civil war had been dragging on for the better part of a year now. Other changes could be noticed as well. Over the past week a Platform had been constructed .... The last time a similar platform had been seen in the settlement had been directly following the Dark Bishops reign. This platform was more intimidating though as a Large heavy blade was suspended over a stock. The talk that surrounded its purpose was that heads would roll once the fort was recaptured. It was also constructed in one of the open markets in the center of Lowtown. This was a bold statement as the governmental seat was in Hightown. Gustaf made his presence known in Lowtown with regular patrols with drummer and color guard always in step. Here you can see as Gustaf leads the a platoon past Arnesto the Smithy and the guillotine platform. The markets are also well stocked once again since the supply ships are now fairly regular. Fresh foods and even some preserved can be easily purchased from the Market Stalls. Medicines can be purchased from The Gypsy Woman providing you let her read your Tarot. Even Bru-HaHa is making its way to the settlement again. All that was left was the final push to the Fort. Surely supplies in the Fort were dwindeling as they had been cut off from thier supply ships as Gustaf had managed to beat the rebels to the Bells by sailing around the reach of San Millars' guns instead of the long jungle path through the gorge the rebels had tried. With the control of the Hidden Battery and Hells Bells the rebel smugglers lost many ships until they were snuffed out. Comments and Criticisms welcomed!
  14. Dramatis Personae: This is an entry for Mardier. Previously, Currently, in an undisclosed location... I was not sure you would come. There are those of us in Eslandola who profit more from peace than war. I received your message and have come to see if we can start working towards a more...political...solution. Just know that before we begin, my masters have orders to escalate the conflict should something untowards happen to me. I have come with no other agenda than to try to find common ground...a way such that both sides can win and save face. I am glad to hear of it. Now, there are some concessions Mardier would like, but in exchange, we are prepared to offer... RUN AWAY!!! What? Oof! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! <splat> Come back here! I love you, Alois! You will be mine! Ah crap. Comments and criticisms are all welcome!

    Boardwalk Talk

The infamous Captain Nordau and a representative of the Sea Rat port authorities take a walk on a Garveyan boardwalk in Freeport, and in the process a large bag of DBs and some papers change hands respectively... only time will tell where it all will go from here! But, little do they know, they are not alone - other ears are hearing every word that is said... And a shot of the infamous pirate Captain on the beach: Hello y'all! A little scene to officially inaugurate my Black Flag Captain's agreement with the Sea Rat authorities - the details of which, for the curious, are that which Captain Nordau has bribed bought the future silence of all Sea Rat port authorities (i.e., the location of the Captain's ship(s) won't be published in the KPA when he's in a SR settlement) in exchange for 5000 DBs and a Class 4 ship which he has given to the Sea Rat faction. And yep, we did get the court's approval and all, so all's fair and above board - figuratively speaking, you know Oh, and no, this is not the start of another ETWC monkey story, I just couldn't resist the urge to get at least one monkey in the scene! Was really happy with how the sea background worked out; and it was awesome getting to crack out that light yellow for the beach! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome as always!

    [SR-FB] Jokers Folly

She was built to cause havock during the Pilots Association Events. The crew had celebrated brining destruction to the association. Perhaps they celebrated a little too hard ... or was it a little too long? As they awoke from their drunken slumber it seemed as if they had missed the whole event! OoC- I built this for the challenge but life got in the way of getting it to post in time. So Im posting it now. Comments and Criticism welcomed
  17. Dramatis Personae: Previously, Currently, Rassilon? Why are we looking at Rassilon? It looks so peaceful, doesn't it? And they don't even realize... That didn't sound ominous at all. Wait...that thing we built? Don't tell me!!! There it is, up in the sky! We're destroying the Sea Rat settlement of Rassilon? All those people are going to die!!! They're not ALL going to die. Besides, the upkeep costs were getting outrageous. Rassilon had to go. It got too expensive. So we're just going to kill them?!?! DON'T WANT TO CLOSE MY EYES!!! I DON'T WANT TO FALL ASLEEP, 'CAUSE I'D MISS YOU, BABY, AND I DON'T WANNA MISS A THING!!! We're responsible for this! We built that giant fireball! Ahem. Technically, I did. Leave it to the psychobabble student to try to steal credit from the engineer. You admit it! Of course. It's not my best work, but I'm proud of it nonetheless. PROFESSIONAL PRIDE!!! I don't care who built it! We couldn't have evacuated Rassilon first?! And create a refugee crisis? We can't afford that. Why do you think we are doing this in the first place? All those people are going to die and it will be on us! Nah. The people will just think the gods did this. It's not like they can see the fourth wall, let alone anything past it. I can't watch... Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

  19. The settlement of Trador seemed to be the next logical step in the Eslodian markets. With its active wineries and current Cider production the network of goods was already set up. Plans had been drawn up and construction was now completed. Workers already had the first few batches run. This was a small factory compared to the other Bru-HaHa facilities with only a single pot which was much smaller. They found they could get 13 barrels per run after heads and tails were cut. Even though this was a small facility it was not by any means less state of the art. underground aging tunnels had been constructed under the streets and most never knew how expansive the tunnels were. This was also the first facility built with large windows low to the ground to encourage the public to view the process. Here a young family peeks in at the mash production The offices here are just large enough to conduct business as the facility is not open for tours. You'll also notice only dry stores are kept. Bru-HaHa belives fresh ingredients make a better bruh Another reason for choosing Trador. The Facility does not feel claustrophobic despite the majority of production being below ground level Another reason in favor of Trador is the constant patrols. Here you can see workers feeling safe beneath the streets in one of the underground storage vaults. However not everyone feels as safe from the patrols. Lets hope that poor inn keeper can calm his spooked horse before he looses his fresh shipment Another view of the facility where you can see the latest batch being completed and another batch being bottled for retail You'll notice the boiler is coal fired as you get a more controlled heat from coal then wood. You might also notice that the large elevated mash pots have direct plumbing to the boiler. Reducing the prep time needed to refill the boiler between batches. --------------- OoC: Comments and Criticism welcomed! This has been a fun build, and once again I am lead to believe that my computer in incapable of rendering over 10,000 bricks lol. I was lucky enough to get two before it began failing. This "small facility" will be licensed as a Large Factory. Also while I would have preferred to tile the mezzanine, the boiler poking through the floor could only be accomplished with the exposed studs as the only plate with the hole does not match up to any current tiles. [SR-FB] Myth Chaser

While in Fatu Hiva Samantha thought she recognized an old friend. So she followed her into the Blue Tassel for a better look Sure enough it was Cathy Derr. She approached her and surprised her. The Gals talked like gals do. They talked about old times then talked about the current. Samantha boasted that she decided to go abroad with her new Husband Darren Kedd, an Eslodian who owned his own trade ship now, and as luck would have it here are many fancy new dresses in the New world. Samantha asked where Rodish was as they were rarely apart. Cathy rolled her eyes and sighed... Stating he's gone off on a folly to go rescue his sister he's never met. Luckily we got the news after the Ball in Kings Harbor not before. Cathy straightened up and smiled though as she proudly proclaimed I am Captain of the Narwhal now though! Cathy explained further that she was preparing to head for a military exercise in Quinnsville, but was going to have to call it off as her crew refused to sail with soldiers packed shoulder to shoulder. She explained how it was really a pity as the Corish government had even sent her special flags to be flown from her masts. Samantha said you won't have to cancel at all, we have ample room aboard my husband's ship the Myth Chaser. After all they may not be neighbors any longer but they are still friends and that's what friends do. Cathy asked if Samantha would have to convince Darren to go along with it. Samantha told her don't worry it's as good as done... Just see if you can get a second set of flags dear! Later that day aboard the Myth Chaser Samantha told Darren of how she ran into her childhood friend Cathy and explained how she was going to cancel her mission but wouldn't have to because the Myth Chaser had plenty of room. At first Daren was shocked at the boldness of his new wife. He then scolded her as this folly would have no profit at all. To which Samantha batted her eyes and pouted her lip and said if you love me then the profit won't matter as long as it makes me happy right... That's what you told me. Darren was over a barrel. She had all the power in the world and he would give her anything to make her happy. Even if it meant getting his ship blasted with paint. He calmly said to Samantha It will give me an excuse to fire the guns and drill sailors, when do we depart darling? https://flic.kr/p/2czfwkr ______________ OoC: this is to explain the second ship raiding Quinsville since the Narwal does not have enough cargo points to transport all the troops @Bregir @LM71Blackbird This will also serve to Licence the new ship check the spoiler for photos Comments and Criticism welcomed Ship photos:
  23. Two nefarious sea Captains were caught in conference in Tortuga recently. Captain Larvey was seen examining letters from a what our source confirmed were signed by "The Phoenix" Larvey was overheard telling the Captain of LaPetunia " Aye if these be true mate we will be needing to procure more vessels" to which the response was "Aye they be true there already be a large fleet sailing south as we speak all on special mission from the Phoenix himself" Ooc: this serves to raise ship limits. 24. Meadow Tickle Tickle (n): a Newfoundland (Canada) term first coined in 1770. It describes i) a narrow salt-water strait, as in the entrance to a harbour or between islands & other land masses, often difficult to navigate due to narrowness, shallowness, tides, etc.; ii) a 'settlement adjoining such a passage. So named as a boat which traverses it may feel a "tickle" on the bottom of their hull. The fishing village of Meadow Tickle was composed of a handful of fisherman families and their huts, their existence on the edge of civilization was a hard one. Named for the explorer who discovered it (Captain Daniel Médaux), During the recent monsoons, two of the local skiffs were lost with all hands, devastating the community and threatening their livelihood. So when a pirate fleet came around the cape and asked to barter for supplies in exchange for hard currency, they jumped at the chance and the little hamlet prospered as never before. This represents a SEA RAT Pirate Hideout. Other pics:

Geographical Features: Featuring blunt cliffs on several sides, the Hilt (the eastern-most Island in this chain) features a tall, dormant volcano. The Blade (The Westernmost Island) also features a more eroded dormant volcano on the east side, but gradually slides into the waves going west. The archipelago rests in the thick of a coral reef, whose unpredictable depth has already been the grounding of more than one large vessel. The Island itself is fertile and could grow sugar cane quite well. Rumours: A roguish band of ship scavengers has been operating out of "The Hilt", preying on the ships that wreck in the reef. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Precious little remains of those ships that did ground in the waters surrounding "The Hilt and the Blade"
