  1. Hello I recreated the iconic spaceship from the album cover of Electric Light Orchestra's Out of the Blue album cover. It started as just one image, and then I turned it into a set including a stand, four LEGO-ized ELO albums, and a Jeff Lynne minifigure. This is on LEGO Ideas! Support would be greatly appreciated: LEGO IDEAS - Electric Light Orchestra - Out of the Blue

    [MOC] Symphony Orchestra

Hi everyone! I have been a member on these forums for around 10 years now, but have mostly been viewing the forums, so haven't posted any creations of my own until this one. Just wanted to start off by saying hi and briefly introducing myself. My name is Daniel, I'm also known as CommanderR here on Eurobricks and PieceOnEarth over on LEGO Ideas. I am currently studying engineering at university and I'm also a musician and Lego fan. Fusing my two passions of music and Lego together, I had this idea of building a Lego orchestra! A few weeks ago, I finished the model design (using LDD) and I am happy to share it here with you all! Welcome to the Symphony Orchestra! My focus was designing a model that I believe would fit will with the normal Lego set scale. With that in mind, I knew I needed to skim down a 60-instrument orchestra to around 15-20 minifigures. I tried to add as many details as possible, resulting in some printing for the sheet music. Can you guess what song they are playing? One of my visions for the model was that it would have the ability to be customized easily to suit the purpose of any show. The orchestra needs a place to store their instruments, warm up and relax. Welcome backstage! I love classical music and wanted to decorate the lounge room with some paintings, so those of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven seemed like a perfect fit! This lounge is where the musicians can relax and grab a refreshing drink. Here are a couple more photos of the backstage, instruments, and overall model: I also have recently added the Symphony Orchestra on Lego Ideas. So, if you like it, please head on over there (link below) and give it your support. That would be really appreciated! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/746f241a-3425-4104-8cde-c90b5e66b9bc Thank you for viewing! I hope you have enjoyed it. Let me know what you think
  3. Hello, Violator is a legendary studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was first released on 19 March 1990 by Mute Records internationally, and by Sire and Reprise Records in the United States. Preceded by the singles "Personal Jesus" and "Enjoy the Silence", the album propelled the band into international stardom, and also yielded the singles "Policy of Truth" and "World in My Eyes". This is a studless build based on the original LP cover. Everything is brick-built, stickers are not used. The size is 48 studs x 48 studs x 5 plates high. The rose head and the "Depechemode" assemblies are a bit tricky too, but the most challenging was to design the "violator" assembly. Building instructions are available on the following links: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-122576/_TLG_/depeche-mode-violator-lp-cover or https://www.mocsmarket.com/lego-mocs/depeche-mode-violator-lp-cover/ (The 8x16 tiles were ordered directly to this MOC and after I received them, I realized they are matte black. Of course they could be replaced by for example 2x4 tiles which are gloss black as the most of the tiles.) 5. Mariachi wagon and Mexican house One of the most vivid traditions of Mexico is surely the Mariachi culture. I’ve been always intrigued by Mariachi musicians and when LEGO released the Mariachi in Series 16 Collectible Minifigures I thought it was really cute and perfect for a Mexican themed MOC. My latest creation represents a classic Mexican scene: the Mariachi Wagon with the musicians on board ready to play the serenade to the beautiful girl on the terrace. On the right her father with his eyes well opened. The house boasts a multi-level terrace structure, a couple of arbors covered by flowers and a large patio. Cactus and plants of all kind are all around. In addition to the Mariachi, I also included in the diorama the Maraca Man (Series 2), Flamenco Dancer (Series 6), the Taco Tuesday Guy (the LEGO Movie) and the Cactus Girl (Series 18). Below few pictures: Hope you like it. More info and pictures on my Flickr. Thanks for stopping by!

    MOC: Music Dioramas

Hello Eurobricks! I have for you 6 "music dioramas" that I like to make whenever I get really into a band or musician. Basically they're constructed on an 8x16 plate, they're 7 bricks high with tile on top, and they're either based on an album cover or just on the musician. Also, I'm not afraid to paint minifigures and parts occasionally for these. Anyway, enjoy! 1. The Beatles: Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band 2. Metallica: Master of Puppets 3. Green Day: 21st Century Breakdown 4. Nirvana: In Utero 5. Jimi Hendrix (Loosely based on his early "Purple Haze" era) 6. The White Stripes And here they are all stacked together for a display piece. Thank you for viewing! Questions and comments welcome.
  7. Made this back in 2015, but never it shared here. It could do with some refinement now there are more new curved pieces released. RIP Dusty Hill. Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/134884717@N03

Music Video about my Lego City

Hi everyone, I just created a music video about my illuminated Lego city with the help of a professional musician. And this is the result: I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do :)
  9. If you're familiar with this one of a kind band I probably don't need to introduce this mini build to you... Added also the missiles that can be folded out for some serious 'moose action'. Intro to 19/2000 (minus logo, of course) A blatant crossover attempt - just for fun & giggles... Nothing huge or complex but still a fun little build for fans of the band. Free instructions available @ rebrickable.com Thanks & have fun!
  10. Hi All, Made myself a Lego edge-driven record spinning device for use with a (6ltr) Ultrasonic Cleaner machine as you can see in this Youtube vids. version 1.0 and version 2.0 Have a project page on hackaday.io https://hackaday.io/projects/hacker/1164055 where you can find a .LDR file and a parts list. Hackaday posted an article; https://hackaday.io/project/176889-lego-edgedriven-ultrasonic-cleaner-spinning-device And Hackspace joined in; https://hackspace.raspberrypi.org/issues/40 Anxious to see your reactions, tried to make it 100% lego but had some trouble finding the right sized wheels and such. So still sticking to the 3d-printer wheels. Hope to improve it with some input I hope to get here, so thanks in advance! Regards, Bas van Lieshout

    [MOC] Musical Modular

Hi everyone! My entry for the Music To Our Ears contest on Lego Ideas has made it to the Top 9 entries, so I figured I'd share it here. It's currently in the crowd vote phase, so I'd appreciate it if you would head over there and give it a vote. But without further ado, here is the MOC: One of the best things about music is that there are so many different styles of it. What better way to discover them all than at a music store! Celebrate the wide variety of music genres and musical instruments and relive the heyday of music stores with this modular building! This corner building is comprised of a music store and a record shop on the ground floor and several apartments on the upper floors. Each apartment is themed after a popular music genre to suit the style of its inhabitant. The architect of the building designed it to look like a group of giant instruments to represent the four different types of instruments: An electric guitar (stringed), a clarinet (wind), a drum set (percussion), and a turntable (electronic). The floors can be separated to play inside. This 2589-piece set is not only a great addition to anyone's modular buildings display, but also a fun playset that can serve as a home for your CMF musicians. Comes with 2 store owners and a new Classical Musician! Let's take a closer look! The sidewalk is patterned like a piano keyboard, and between the music and record stores, there a staircase going up to the apartments with tuplet-shaped handrails leading up to the door. The music store has all kinds of different instruments. At the cash register, the store owner is having a discussion with the Classical Musician about which music is better: Classic or Metal. Albums of all kinds line the walls of the record store. The Disco Guy likes to come here often to disco-ver new tunes to dance to. The first apartments are dedicated to the pop star, disco guy, cowgirl, and saxophone player, representing pop, R&B and soul, country, and blues/jazz respectively. Next to the stairs to the top floor, there is a small corner with a table for the saxophone player for when he's not on the balcony. The last floor features rooms for the DJ, Rockstar, and Classical Musician, as well as a terrace with graffiti for the rapper to hang out on, representing techno, rock, classical music, and hip hop. There is a stark contrast between the styles of the three rooms. There is also a small closet with a broom and bucket in the hallway. The turntable-shaped roof can be accessed via a ladder going up the clarinet tower. I hope you like it. If you do, again, please give it your vote here. Since it has made it to the Top 9, it will be considered as a potential future set during the next Ideas review! Thanks, and keep on rockin'!

    [MOC] Erling Records

Go crate-digging in the most famous record store in town! Hello everyone! This is not actually my MOC but my brother's. I'm so glad I finally managed to turn him (at least temporarily) to the dark side !! Anyway, I helped him around so it also counts. He was super hyped when he saw the "Music to our ears!" contest in Lego Ideas especially by the chance of a proposal becoming a set without the required 10.000 votes. He managed to create two entries in the given timeframe for it: a Jazz Club and this record store. The first entry was more of a warm-up to this second entry which is more refined and better. The main idea was to build a record store in a similar scale to this beautiful build by César Soares, somewhere in the miniland scale. He initially wanted to build it in minifigure scale, but I insisted in this larger, more unique scale to be able to add more details and to have an overall more impressive model. One of my inputs was building the main façade at an angle (for those who know me... who would've thought, right? ). We used the same technique used in the Ideas Friends Central Perk to angle the wedge plates. It works fabulously. Using such a back wall also enabled him to have a full exterior. I think this was such a good idea. The entry is reminiscent of the London Underground entrances by Leslie Green with the nice dark red tiling and blue signage. One of the aspects of the build I personally had most fun was doing the decorations for the posters on the walls. I came up with some of the ideas and puns. Billund Road, City of Brickminster... Erling Records itself... They're super fun. We also put a version of a 1980s Lego advert on the wall outside. Help us turn this idea into an official Lego set! Whether you love the work of composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Danny Elfman, or Howard Shore for example; or if you only have a particular film score or theme you really like, please share and discuss your favorites here.
  16. Hey everyone, thought I'd share a project that I worked on. A few months I was approached by a guy who asked me to build a robot that could self replicate for his music video out of lego. Doing a lot of music stuff myself I thought it would be a cool way to meet some new poeple and have a bit of fun. I built the yellow arm specifically for the vid, and brought in some other contraptions that I have been working on to give the idea of a production line type setup. I'll be doing a video on the arm by itself and a more detailed write up of it in the next few weeks, in the meantime enjoy the video here: Cheers:)

  19. Hello everyone, this is the first stopmotion I have ever done. Hope you like it:
  20. Hello, I am sharing my last lego project, a videoclip for a song called "Cuestión de Estilo". Hope you enjoy it!
  21. Hello, This is my homage to the one of my favorite show/band ever. Made on Lego Digital Designer almost 1000 parts. Fantômas with Terry Bozzio from Frank Zappa on drums Fantômas began just before the collapse of Faith No More, as a series of spasmic, avant-garde metal/grindcore songs composed by vocalist and bandleader Mike Patton. Patton then sent the demos to guitarist Buzz Osborne (of Melvins), bass guitarist Trevor Dunn (of Mr. Bungle) and drummer Igor Cavalera (of Sepultura), with the intention of forming a supergroup. Cavalera declined the offer, but recommended who he thought would be perfect for the project: Dave Lombardo of Slayer, who accepted.[5][6] The band have released all of their albums through Patton's independent label Ipecac, however there was initially interest from several prominent record labels, primarily due to Patton's commercial success with Faith No More. He recalled "There was a whole lot of interest, at first. People from Geffen and stuff like this came out to the shows. But after the show, they disappeared into the woodwork. There were [also] indies that were interested, but none that I was interested in."[7] In mid-2005, the band toured Europe with Terry Bozzio on drums LEGO - Fantômas - Live at Jazz Montreux by Sérgio Batista This is the show I try to homage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubauFpvtBeA
  22. "Defying Gravity" is the most famous scene and song from the sixth longest running Broadway musical of all time - "Wicked". The musical retells the story of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" from the viewpoint of two friends, Glinda and Elphaba, which will be known as the Wicked Witch of the West despite the fact that she did nothing wicked at all. The musical looks like a comedy in some scenes and most of the time the story and mood is optimistic, but if you start digging deeper, you realise that in fact it is a really tragic story for all the characters, with a lot of meaning, so there are definitely a lot to think about. ;) Elphaba is considered strange and hated by the other Ozians only because her skin is green color. So when madame Morrible tells her that she has a strong talent in magic and promised to write to the Wizard about it, Elphaba starts to dream about how she will be accepted by the Ozians after she proves her worth to Wizard. Alas, when she and her friend Glinda finally meets the Wizard, they discover that he and madame Morrible are the puppeters behind the oppression of the Animals (intelligent creatures who able to speak), and the Wizard was going to use Elphaba for his own purposes, because he has, as we remember from the film, no real magic powers. Elphaba, who was aware of the anti-Animal conspiracy and was going to ask him for help believing that the Wizard surely will do something to stop it, is angry, so she rejects the opportunity to be in Wizard's team and desides to go on her own and fight this problem by herself. Glinda tries to calm her down, and so begins the most memorable scene in all musical, in which Elphaba defy the things that all Ozians believe in, defy all the people that have always repressed her... and defy gravity. The song by Idina Menzel (Elsa from "Frozen") and Kristin Chenoweth in a spoiler below. This photostory is a re-creation of a scene from the musical, which is longer than the album recording due to the dialogs not included in it, so all the words that are included in the soundtrack are written with green italics, the remaining words are written with italics, the words of the song are additionally highlighted with bold, and the words that are included in the song from the album, but not in the script (so it is missing during a live performance) is striken. Descriptions of actions taken directly from the script of musical. The photos are not as good as they should have been, because I was going to make only one, but then I decided to shoot the whole scene, and while I was shooting, it was rapidly getting dark, and I had to move this tower to the windowsill and use a small LED light bulb, so it's amazing that I was able to even take a picture of something in such darkness. :) Leaving creative chaos mess in the room for a whole week to shoot scene at another day - alas, not my option, cause I have not so much time now... So let's start! Be sure to turn on the music from the spoiler! :) If you turn it on synchronously with reading, then you can just scroll the page to green text and read only it. [GLINDA] Elphie, stop! Wait -- where are you going? Elphie!! A DOOR IN THE FLOOR swings open, and Elphaba, followed closely by Glinda, clambers up into... ACT ONE, Scene 14: THE UPPERMOST TURRET OF THE WIZARD’S PALACE. It is a tiny barren room, a kind of supply closet containing a few old rags and an old broom in a corner. There is one large window, overlooking the rooftops of the Emerald City. [ELPHABA] There are no more stairs (looking around desperately) This must be the attic— [GLINDA] Elphaba, listen to me -- [ELPHABA] The guards are coming up. We’ll have to barricade the door! [GLINDA] What!? Elphaba looks around desperately for something to barricade the door with; she spots a broom, grabs it-- [ELPHABA] I’ll use this— Elphaba descends a couple of steps and wedges the door shut with the broom. As she comes back up... [GLINDA] Elphaba, why couldn’t you have stayed calm, for once! Instead of flying off the handle -- ! I hope you're happy I hope you're happy now I hope you're happy how You've hurt your cause forever I hope you think you're clever [ELPHABA] I hope you're happy I hope you're happy too I hope you're proud how you Would grovel in submission, to feed your own ambition [GLINDA and ELPHABA] So though I can't imagine how I hope you're happy right now... Look at her, she's wicked! by R2 D2, on Flickr END OF ACT ONE You can find this scene from the musical here, but there roles of Elphaba and Glinda are played by another singers, so their voices sound different from soundtrack, and also quality of sound is far from perfect. You can play video in another tab and read italicized text synchronously with it. Anyone who interested, please check out the story in Wikipedia (listening an album first doesn't help you, cause all dialog tracks between the songs and some spoken lines are not included in CD in order to avoid spoilers), and then read the annotations and user's comments under it (some users pointed out really interesting and important meanings in comments, so don't skip it) to all the songs on Genius (and there are you'll find links on YouTube as well). Or, if you're lucky enough to live somewhere near the theatres where are performances of "Wicked", go and watch it. It is definetely worth it. ;) Thanks for watching and any comments are very welcomed)
  23. Hi again. Another project I showed live last weekend at PLUG Braga BRInCKa 2016 - a LEGO Laser Harp: It uses a Mindstorms EV3 to read the light intensity on 8 color sensors. Each color sensor has a 1mW red laser pointing to it so my instrument has 8 "strings" or "chords" (I use two 3-to-1 input multiplexers in order to achieve 8 sensors). All 8 lasers are controled from one EV3 output. I started with 8 LEGO Power Function LEDs and it worked fine... at dark. But at a live show room I knew it would be impossible to use the LEDs (unless for very very short distances) so I opted for lasers. The EV3 runs ev3dev, a linux distro for the EV3. A python script controls the lasers and reads the sensors, sending their state to a linux laptop where another python script plays the notes on a software MIDI synth (EV3 with ev3dev can play MIDI but has not enough power to polyphonic sound so I had to use this client-server configuration). This allows the "instrument" to scale out so I can had more EV3 and more "strings". I don't know now how to play so during the exhibition my wife, when present, played some 8-note children tunes for the public. I have no live video but I have this one at home, still with LEDs and just 7-chords: Sound still needs some improvements (I'm not controlling note length) and hopefully in a later version I will read hands distance to control note amplitude. I will also use some kind of Human Interface Device to change the MIDI soundfont intrument "on the fly" so the artist can change from an harp to a piano or a drum whenever he/she wants (I'm planning to use LEGO Dimensions ToyPad since I can already read NFC tags with it on the EV3). Some technical details (and code) at my blog.

    LEGO Music

Greetings Comrades! A thought came to my mind today, are there any songs about LEGO? Not ones by LEGO about LEGO or ones from advertising, but ones by proper singers and/or bands?
