    [Thrawn] - Shadow Strike

ShadowStrike After several conflicts around imperial bases on Rodia, Grand Admiral Thrawn visited the main imperial complex of the planet to take control. "Sir we've received a coded rebel transmission about a planned attack. We have not much information, but we know, a small group of soldiers will try get in one of our research base. We don't know which one and what's the goal." "Well. General do we know who will lead the mission?" "Yes Sir, a rodian rebel named Tweel Jaz." "Interesting, Did you know Phoolgee was the home city of the Jaz family. This is a part of the city's destroyed main building. We have a base there, haven't we?" "This painting was paint by the rodian Wonst Blar, is symbolizes the rodian stealth. Our rebel, Tweel Jaz usually lead small raids, so now we know what to expect. Send out probe droids for all the possible entry points of the mentioned place and leave them hidden." "Yes Sir!" The general leaves the room, and Thrawn start to listening an old rodian music. "Sir one of our droid spotted some activity at landing pad 9." "Good. Now, General send out the shadow troopers at the nearest entry and done it quietly. And prepare the units to capture the terrorists. I want Jaz alive." End
  2. So... Yet Another 10179 fanboy/project. If you're tired of ppl going for their own Bricklinked falcons, you can stop read here. :) Well, I think I have more to say about it than "now it's my turn" but be advised - it IS about me trying to get myself a 10179. My first dream came true, the 10134 Y-wing. It was actually easier than I thought. See further details here: Encouraged by the success, I raised the bar "a little" and am now going for the Holy Grail of Bricklinking official sets, the mighty MF #10179. But of course it is with my own twist. So what's my take on it? Well, for starters, I am NOT interested to pay those fantasy sums for overpriced parts that happen to be of exactly correct color. Don't get me wrong here, I DO want to get a set that is close to the real deal. But afaic the real deal is THE MOVIE and if my set happen do differ from the official #10179 due to my economical restraints, it's fine. I will try to make it look like MF allright, just not as the 10179 MF at any cost. I consider part of the fun (at least for now) of Bricklinking an official set, to try to make it as affordable as possible. To be able to follow progress, order by order as the goal of getting all pieces comes closer. The countdown to Build Day is part of the fun, part of the journey. To make that journey interesting, I try to find solutions to lower the price to more reasonable levels One easy thing is to swap colors. Easy is maybe wrong since it comes down to two scenarios: the expensive part either show or do not show on the set when built. If it does not show, it's an easy choice but on the other hand it can require a bit of investigation to determine if that piece really shows or not. But if the piece(s) show, it's more a matter of choice - will another color be worse or better or equally visually? Things like that. Another, more intriguing thing, is to replace parts or constructs with other, more affordable alternatives. I did this on 10134 and am not afraid to do it on this set too. On area that could be target for redesign is the engines where those two LBG boat mast riggings go. I simply do not want to pay what they cost. My first and most obvious choice here is to skip the rigging, it looks pretty damn cool anyway. Other options include the black ones, after market versions but I do not exclude custom solution too. The neat thing is that I don't have to decide until I decide. The model will look awesome no matter what. Being a programmer by profession I could not resist hacking my own tools to make the collection of parts more fun. First and most obvious part was to add something useful to the rather limiting tools in Bricklink. Bricklink is good for ordering and finding pieces to order, but it stops there. I want to keep track of progress and price over time. And i need lists to have in handy when I count pieces in new orders. To do this with pen and paper as I did with 10134 is time consuming and prone to errors. And to rely solely on Bricklink is also prone to errors. GS_10179_01 GS_10179_02 I swiftly hacked a Google Sheets document (see attached screenshots) to fulfill my needs. I quickly realized I needed a way to import Wanted Lists or at least Set Inventories to those sheets. The latter part was easy since it require no login. So my sheets support (via custom menu) import of set inventories, with pics and all. However, I wanted to have support for Wanted Lists too, but those require login. Me being impatient did not find an easy solution to do that with Google App Scripts (it IS doable but I did not want to spend time finding a solution) so a promptly hacked another tool together - a windows forms app that can login to Bricklink and retrieve my wanted list(s) and present them in a grid, where I easily can export them to clip board, excel or file. In a perfect world I'd make those tools as one, but this was the easiest way to do it for me atm. GS_10179_03 So. I've spent about 6 months since I first started this project, but it was rather recent I begun ordering pieces for real. So far, I'm up to about 40% of the pieces at the cost of about 200 Euros. However, there are some expensive pieces left, so the price per piece count will go up - even if I try to find alternative solutions. Please free to pop by this thread for updates in the future. My goal is to have all pieces to start build before summer's over. cheers, Jens

  5. A from the ground up build of the play scale Millennium Falcon pulling inspiration from 7965, 75105, Dario Del Frate and many other custom Falcon's online with interior. Including LDD File for your enjoyment. About a year ago I came across Dario Del Frate's beautiful mod of the 7965 Millennium Falcon and I immediately wanted to make my own. Unfortunately at the time he had not put up any instructions on how to build his and I am not the greatest at reverse engineering so I decided to start from scratch. Pulling from the original 7965, Dario's Falcon and various other custom falcons and sources/blue prints online to come up with what I have to show today, with a few little mods/design upgrades that pulled from the new 75105 Millennium Falcon for the Force Awakens. I also added both satellite dishes for your preference. So this is what I have currently, solely built inside LDD and unfortunately I don't have the cash at the moment to start ordering the pieces and building it. Also I'd love to see if it can be improved upon before I do decide to pull the trigger on building it so I give this to the world and all you great Lego designers in hopes that you would like to improve on it and/or build your own if you have the pieces to build it in real life and let me know how it holds up. Mostly I'm just happy to see what releasing it out into the wild brings back until I can build it myself. Linked (at the bottom) is the Moc Pages Site where you can see more images and download the LDD .lxf file that you can use however you wish.. mod it, fix it, change it, totally rebuild it. I would love to see what you do with it. Cheers all, enjoy! Happy New Year!! [BL] 10134 UCS Y-wing

Hi, Some years ago I made some general requests about the possibilities to collect pieces to make a discontinued Lego set. Dunno if it was here or elsewhere, but I was fairly unaware of Bricklink and similar sites back then. The answers I got was that it was most likely no good idea to collect pieces, better to get the set complete. Somewhat discouraged by this I dropped the idea. 20160907_212210 by Jens, on Flickr Fast forward to this spring, when I rediscovered my interest for Lego and made a big leap into the world of AFOLs. I don't remember what started it, but the idea of getting the dream set was once again back. I got the first two UCS sets back in 2000 (X-wing and TIE interceptor) and ever since I laid my eyes on the Y-wing I wanted it. Considered it too expensive for me back then, I never bought it, something I regretted much. 20160619_185246 by Jens, on Flickr Now. To cut a long story short. I did it. I decided to get myself a 10134 UCS Y-wing. But not by paying a ridiculously amount of money for a complete set. Well, ridiculously amount for me anyway. I started off by digging into my childhood lego boxes, well aware of that it would give me worn pieces in wrong/old colors. I managed to get a fair amount of the pieces just by digging, about 33%. The rest of the pieces took about three months to get, mainly using bricklink. 20160905_175109 by Jens, on Flickr It's "easy" to get the dream set of yours. It's only a matter of money. The real challenge is to get it for a reasonable price. I quickly replaced too expensive parts with cheaper alternatives. It's a trade-off, I know, but ok for me. I tried to be as truthful to the original as possible. It required some minor "redesign" in order to get the price on a fair level. 20160906_164539 by Jens, on Flickr So. Here I am. I'm still waiting for some parts, and I will use the possibility to print stickers myself (I have a friend that can do this for me). I managed to get my dream set, or at least something very close to it, for a bit under ~150 Eur. And boy, is this set awesome! This is my fourth UCS (others being X-wing (first one), TIE interceptor and Slave-I). 20160906_195126 by Jens, on Flickr More pics can be found on my flickr, below. The moral of the story? Well, you CAN get that set you've always longed for, and for a reasonable price (per piece). It's a matter of patience, creativity and well, money. :) Next project will be... the holy grail of Star Wars Lego. Nuff said :D My flickr for Lego: Jens at Flickr

    [MOC] Microfighter AT-ST

Hello I recently bought the Rogue One imperial Battlepack - mainly for the Death Troopers - but was a bit disappointed with the generic non-canon walker that was included so I decided to see if I could re-use the parts to make something a bit more pleasing. That was the plan but in the end I went off-course and ended up using only a few of the parts from the battle pack - and plenty more from Bricklink. The result was this Microfighter scale AT-ST complete with driver borrowed for a larger set. Vital statistics are: 84 pieces, 6 studs wide, about 10 high - depending on how the legs are posed - and about 8 long. I'm fairly happy with how it turned out, it stands up OK and can be posed with the legs 'walking' though it's a little front heavy. The head is mounted on a mixels ball joint so it's got a little range of motion and the stud shooter cannons can be raised and lowered too. The legs and lower assembly are quite straightforward but the head section has a lot of SNOT going on with 6 brackets holding the thing together. It was definitely the hardest part to do. It's nearly all LBGrey and DBGrey but I got a bored of that and put some sand yellow bits in to break it up - tonally they are between the two greys so you can get a bit of subtlety in the shading but it may not be to everyone's taste, I may change them to regular grey. The driver also has a couple trans green plates in front to mimic the cockpit displays, just for another bit of colour. Scale-wise, it's a bit taller than most Microfighters but within the bounds and it doesn't look too out of place in the range - I don't have the AT-DP to compare it to but I do have AT-AT... Yes, I know it's all kinds of wrong but it sort of works.. That's all, comments welcome. I'll post the .LXF once I've brought it up to date with how the actual model turned out. cheers J

  12. Hi all After only getting four kits in the Microfighters series 4 I decided to have a go at adding to the range myself, starting with 'Rogue One' itself. So here's my micro MOC of the Imperial Cargo Shuttle. It's 12 studs long, 6 wide with the wings up and about 16 wide with them down, 105 pieces at last count. I experimented with a few different builds and the trickiest parts were making the wings strong without too many plates and the orange cargo 'pod'. I had a nicer looking cargo pod using some curved corner bricks but it was hard to make the rest of the build strong so I had to go for slopes and brackets instead. I kept the colours mostly dark grey with some light grey for the wing markings and also a few touches of dark tan, just to add a bit of dirt and break up the shape a little. The pilot is from the Battlefront battlepack but he's close enough to one of the Rogue One soldiers for the moment. That's it - hope you like it, all comments welcome. If you're interested you can see some of my Other Microfighter Builds here :) and I can post a link to the lxf file too Joe

  15. Hi guys, I have just finished another Star Wars MOC. This time I wanted to mess around with the idea of forced perspective and decided to recreate one of my favourite shots from Return of the Jedi. As with all my micro mocs I wanted to stick to the 16x16 base, which in this instance was quite a challenge but eventually I managed to find a way to fit everything I wanted into the scene. The colour palette choice for Jabba's Palace was partly based on the official lego sets of "Jabba's Palace' and 'Rancor Pit' especially the dark grey base for the Palace to sit atop but I decided to go with darker colours for the Palace itself similar to the actual scene from the film. Finally I have recently got hold of the Boushh mini fig (one of my favourites) and so wanted to incorporate her somehow. I then had the idea that Chewie and Liea would have walked the same route to get to Jabba's Palace and so changed the sky to a sunset scene to reflect the time of day they arrived at the Palace. Which do you prefer? C3P0 and R2 or Boushh and Chewie? Also I am thinking of doing some more scenes similar to this, incorporating micro builds and mini figs but wondered if people liked this style? Should I stick to the micro landscapes I have been building or do more scenes in this style?
  16. I was looking at the TIE fighter instruction on the Lego support page and found 2 slightly different set of instructions for the same set. Anyone knows why? Try to switch between both images quickly to see the difference

    [MOC] Jabba's PIzza Hutt

Hey guys, I have just finished another build, which I would love to share with you all. I call this 'Jabba's PIzza Hutt' Jabba's Pizza Hutt by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr For a change this is not related to any scene or landscape from the Star Wars saga but rather a bit of fun I was having with my newly acquired Jabba figure. I had quite a bit of fun with this, like the Emperor's order being number 66... Jabba's Pizza Hutt by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr Jabba's tail being too big for his own restaurant! 18. Hi guys, just a quick update but a micro build I am very pleased with! I have wanted to build a micro Falcon for sometime now and this actually took a bit longer than I had hoped but I am really happy with the end result. Untitled by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr Its only 4x4 but I have managed to get in all the details that make the Falcon the iconic ship it is. Untitled by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr The base wasn't part of my original idea but I had the Falcon on a tan plate just as a random support and suddenly thought it would look quite cool if there was a micro Mos Eisley below. Untitled by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr The colour of the Falcon is white because as a kid to me it was always white, the toys might have got the colours wrong but they just stuck with me!

    [MOC] The Imperial March

Hi guys, so I was somewhat inspired by a recent job where I got to work at the legendary Abbey Road studios! I decided to make my own version of the iconic Beatles album cover using a mix of the new Beatles mini figs (for the yellow submarine) and some of my favourite imperials. DSC_2808 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr I call this build 'The Imperial March' DSC_2790 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr 2016-12-19_02-43-14 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr I tried to get some of the background detail into this build but felt the car would be the wrong scale so opted to leave it out. 20. Hello everyone! My name is Jaydan and this is my first post. After seeing Rogue one for the third time, I decided to create a mini-figure scale building from the battle of Scarif. I noticed Lego had produced a play set of the specific scene that i wanted to recreate due to release early 2017, however within the film there are two buildings that look very similar. one is from the scene i wanted to recreate and that Lego had created a play set of, and the other was a building that stood out to me. In my mind these buildings were exactly the same, but after a bit of research i discovered that they were not. Now I've spent many hours on Lego digital designer creating a building that has almost no significance to the entire film. Oh well, I'll build what I jolly well like! ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// here is the reference and progress of the buildings' design: https://flic.kr/s/aHskLGBy2a ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Since the film is not out on 'DVD' or 'Blue-ray' i had to use other sources for reference. I found out that Electronic Arts' new "Star Wars Battlefront" has a paid "downloadable content" level that is based on this particular battle and it contains the structure i want to recreate. i currently don't own this DLC so i was forced to take screenshots from "Youtube" videos. Here are the links to the videos: Feel free to raise any concerns regarding the structure, and if there is a better technique that i should try to use. I was initially planning on building the structure without an interior but I'm toying with the idea of the left side of the building having a cut away, almost like a doll house. let me know what you think and give any other ideas that i should consider. If someone owns the Battlefront DLC and is willing to take better reference pictures of the bunker, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much! -Jaydan

    [MOC] I Am Your Father...

Hi guys, so I have been very busy recently with my builds! I have a lot to share starting with this recreation of a classic scene. IMG_20161203_151458 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr This build sits on a 12x14 base. I have tried to recreate the weather vane as faithfully to the film. IMG_20161203_135638 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr The Luke mini fig is a custom, which I dont often like using, however the printing work on this figure is outstanding and looks perfect. IMG_20161208_225410 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr I am really happy with the technique to make the bridge and think it works really well. IMG_20161207_145604 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr Originally I wasn't going to add a backdrop but I think with just the sense of the walls behind the action it helps set the scene even more. IMG_20161204_194619 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr Anyway I am really happy with how this has turned out, it was a pretty quick build with just bits and pieces I had lying around! As always though I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions and may the force be with you! IMG_20161204_151421 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr

    TIE Interceptor v2

About a year and a half ago I posted my initial TIE Interceptor model and I pointed out a few areas that I didn't like, notably the wing pylons. I went through two more changes, each being stronger than the last but that wasn't all I was unhappy with. I ended up building a second version, totally from scratch, using Belkor's wing pylon design. New cockpit interior (hell, entirely new cockpit), new thinner wings - only two plates thick. But my absolute favourite part of my second, improved version is a functional rear viewport. Unfortunately, I am currently lacking the money to buy extra pieces for v2 so only renders for now. There are still a number of things I would like to change. I'm pretty happy with the wings, although if I find a way to keep the edge panels closed that would be great. Ramses' TIE fighters have better wing pylons where it connects, so I want to modify mine to be more similar. Cehnot made an excellent cockpit interior, so I plan on changing mine to use that. However I'm very happy with the thinner wings and functional rear cockpit. It took quite a bit of time fiddling around with plates to have a design that was strong enough throughout with the wings. Hopefully, v3 should be in full brick form.
