  1. Challenge IV FACTION MINI CHALLENGE To kick off Challenge 4, we will have a quick mini-challenge for each of the factions. The winner of the faction will have the right to call themselves a certain title (depending on faction). They also get to pick the location of a battle in Category C. Deadline: before the end of Sunday March 22nd, anywhere in the world. FACTION: Ulandus CHALLENGE: The 13th Legion. If you read Bannihal’s Report, you may have noticed that there is a 13th legion of Ulandus, but it is brand new. Because of this, it has not earned its name or its colors yet. Your challenge is to create this 13th legion, design a few of their uniforms, give it a backstory and show members of this legion performing a heroic feat that would gain them the attention of First Centurion. You also should pick the nickname the legion will be granted. (IE: The First legion wears red and its nickname is The Thousand Suns.). The only restriction is that you must use a color that is not currently used by one of the legions. The largest MOC for this quick challenge is 32x32 studs. But, besides minifigure only pictures / builds, you may have up to two MOCs to show the feat. TITLE YOU CAN WIN: Exalted Centurion of Ulandus FACTION: Desert King CHALLENGE: Making War. The Desert King is in need of good lieutenants to run his war effort. Show your character (or the character you are using in this challenge) commanding a military action that would get the notice of your faction’s leader. You will probably need a unit under your command, so make sure that they look sharp! The largest MOC for this quick challenge is 32x32 studs. But, besides minifigure only pictures / builds, you may have up to two MOCs to show the feat. TITLE YOU CAN WIN: Warlord of the North (or Northern Kaliphlin if you are not Kaliphlinite already) FACTION: High Council CHALLENGE: Protecting the Councilors. The High Council is busy in this time of war, and need help guarding their person at important meetings. One member is often designated the Lord Protector of the Council when the council is in session, but since Kyban Wh'Ali of Khar'dek, current Lord Protector, was injured, a new Lord Protector must be found. Task: Depict a scene where your character (or the character you are using in the challenge) and his/her men prevent an attack on the council in a random location (Must not be Petraea). It should be clear that they have either saved the lives of the councilors, or prevented a plot altogether. The largest MOC for this quick challenge is 32x32 studs. But, besides minifigure only pictures / builds, you may have up to two MOCs to show the feat. TITLE YOU CAN WIN: High Lord of Kaliphlin (if you are not already one), Lord Protector of the Council if you are already part of Kaliphlin. JUDGING: After the deadline I will compile the entries into a voting thread, and each faction will vote for their favorite entry. That winner will earn the title.
  2. This is a counter to Scarst's GAon C3 It seems one of the troublemakers who has been insnaring Desert King troops has become caught in one of his own traps. His loud shouting attracted the attention of some of the elves that live in these woods, elves that are fiercly territorial and aggressive towards intruders... Heres a shot of the elves by themselves This build was heavily inspired by Kayne's The Withered Woods C & C appreciated
  3. A last minute entry for the High Council in warzone 5. Into The Desert... by BrickCurve, on Flickr As the leader of the convoy reached the first few metres of desert sand his thoughts returned to all those who had been lost over the years. From the unlucky traveller who had almost reached civilization in days before regular patrols around the edge of the great sands, and then there were those that just wandered in, never to be seen again. Still it could happen for there little party, a sandstorm to get them lost in the middle of the desert was all that was needed. For in a desert with no permanent landmarks getting lost and running out of water would spell death to all but the luckiest of adventurers. Still the supplies they were carrying were needed by High Council troops in this great civil war. Into The Desert... by BrickCurve, on Flickr He looked back for the last time at the honour guard that the patrol behind them had formed. He wondered to himself whether he had tempted his fate in the desert too many times to get away with it again, wondering whether he would see any of the patrol, or any other soldiers of the high council again or would he and the convoy behing him become nothing more than another pile of bleached bones soon to be hidden by the great shifting sands that formed this great desert. On another note, I cant seem to get the deeplinking working between here and flickr, I've seen similar images missing around the forum so is deeplinking no longer possible here? <edit> Fixed, it was a problem Google chrome.
  4. After the wild shag-bull had driven off the terror-stricken Desert Kings troops, the Ulanders moved in and went to work... Here is a picture in the sunlight: I would like to recieve UoP credit for: Architecture - roofing This is my joint guerrilla with Kai on B8. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome! OoC: I have now built as many MOC's in the last three months (most of them this month) as in all of last year - thanks to Ska for this wonderful motivator!
  5. Reference to Adair's build. The stowaway in the cabin had long since filled his belly on apples and drifted off to sleep with the quiet motion of the ship in the almost windless sea. The sail billowed slowly out, then fell again, in a way that was remarkably similar to the heaving of the stowaway's chest. Presently a low sigh escaped him. A rustle on deck and a sudden babbling of orders in a woman's voice awoke him. He sat up with a jerk and spent the next few minutes righting the barrel and replacing apples. Fortunately, the noise was covered over by the lady's loud shouting. He paused for a second, just as she dropped into a lower tone. "Revenge. That is my life now. And my revenge will not be complete until every single Ulandian is dead and their island sunk back into the ocean." Revenge! On every single Ulandian?! This was really too much! Our stowaway happened to have been greatly helped on his way by several Ulandian soldiers - in fact they were the ones who had smuggled him on this ship - and he was quite willing to repay the favor. Certainly he did not wish this thoughtlessly passionate girl to get away with her mad scheming! For hours he sat there, racking his brain. What should he do? What could he do? The night began to close, and darkness crept over the ocean. The stowaway stiffened in his hiding place as the cabin door opened and Adira herself entered. "So dark in here!" she muttered. "I could really use a candle!" A candle! Fire! That was it! The stowaway had to clap his hand over his mouth to prevent himself from shouting, "Eureka!" Impatiently he waited until all was quiet. Then he snuck out of the cabin and drew a flint stone out of his pocket. By dint of long patience he finally achieved a spark. Eagerly he watched it consume the tarred canvas he fed it. Then he placed it carefully in a place where it was sure to catch. Had the watch not been so sound asleep, they might well have seen, not many minutes later, their small gig lowered over the side. But they were sound asleep. Not until the clothes of the first mate began to burn did he realize what was happening. Then instantly all was abustle, Adira rushed out, shouting orders again, the commander of the troops also bellowed orders, and so did the first mate - these orders all had to do with relieving his pain, "Bring me water! And a linen poultice! And a pot of soothing ointment!" - and the cacophony was so great that it was quite amazing that Adira and the commander managed to lash together a few spars and launch their small raft onto the water before things really started to heat up. Knowing they had to get far away before the water sucked the ship down, they began to swim and push the raft through the water, calling to those on board to jump out and help them. But all too many didn't hear. Adira looked backwards over her shoulder at the burning ship, barely bigger than the size of a quarter now. Who had done this? She sighed wearily. It must have been the crew. They had Desert King leanings. "Revenge is more complicated than I thought," she muttered to herself. "Now I'll have to postpone completing it until every single Desert King follower is dead - or whatever happens to mummies - and their king is once again locked away in his dismal tomb!" Fortunately for Adira, a ship belonging to an enterprising Kaliphlin merchant who, even in these troubled times, prosecuted his calling vigorously, passed by and picked them up. It was going to A15, which Adira thought was just perfect. Several of the crew were quite willing to join her on her mission of vengeance, so she was able to muster the same force as before. Note the curved sail. I was quite proud of that. Tried to stick as much as possible to Adair's original design! An overview: Original post (picture may not work):
  6. Warzone 5: Battle of the Deep Sands Location: I 10 Who Can Participate: All Factions Terrain: This battle happens in the heart of the Dune Sea. The Dune Sea is full of large, often changing, crests of sand. There is very little stable ground, and where there is, there is usually some small oasis as the source of water. However, these Oases often disappear for months at a time under the ever-changing sands. A haboob can pick up at any moment and blow mountains of sand, literally, miles from its original point. Even though not the largest desert in Kaliphlin, the absence of landmarks makes it very easy to become trapped in the Dune Sea, often a traveler can be driven mad from his or her surroundings. This madness is known to those in the Kaliphlin as “Dunstyria.” History: The region has few settlements, and has had even fewer rulers. There is very little of importance here but a few oil wells and a swatch of territory to add to a ruler’s map. It is odd that war broke out here, but it does lie in the middle of many important locations in Kaliphlin, it is bordered by the Petraea Road, the Mystic Mountains, the Lone Mountain, the Swamps of Qar-Akhen River, and the more profitable Parched Lands. In some regards, it is a second avenue into many of these locations, and the side who controls it would be sealing off a backdoor to other locations. The troops must watch out for the mythic Sand Ghouls, Sand Worms, Dirtmaids, and Lerik'ai, all of which can bring a swift end to a party, and if not the inhabitants of the Dune Sea, then nature itself may deal a fatal blow. Mini-challenge: Depict the desolation of the region, while securing it for your side. This does not have to be a battle scene, it can be an occupation (you decide of what), taming the region somehow, building a fortification to outlast the Haboobs, etc… Use your imagination. Special judging consideration: The public will be asked to judge who won based on creative use of the desert. IE: we are asking MOCers to really demonstrate life and death in the desert, not just a pile of sand and some figs. Secondary Category: Best Sand. A third question will be asked on the voting thread, which build contained the best sand? Although it has nothing to do with who will win the battle, it does allow that winner to be known throughout Historica as the “Traverser of the Great Sands.” Restrictions: Unlimited. Due Date: April 5th When posting a link to your entry to each battle thread, make sure you note which zone you are picking as the next warzone if you win. You may want to coordinate with others from your faction.
  7. One of the most celebrated Kaliphlin champions is fighting in the Lonely Mountain Rumble. In the narrow streets in the volcanic city around the vulcano, he has a big advantage using his round shield and his long Ximian Spear to push enemies into the lava. ---- Without enemy: Sir Bath Manee Taimes: ---- For the Republic!! For Stedor!! C&C always welcome!! Note: I tried something new for myself with the windows :D
  8. The Nestlands are very well known for their rocks and vegetation, making it hard to live for its inhabitants. As it is an isolated area, their habits are a bit different than most other people in Kaliphlin. For example they worship birds... The area itself is very dangerous as you never know what way to reach one of the clans is safe. So the heavy equipped knights of Stedor layed down an ambush together with a local Nesltands Clan-member (fleshie, as requested by Gedren). A group of Desert King Warriors are patrolling the area, not aware of what is behind the rocks... For the Republic!! For Stedor!! C&C ofcourse welcome!!
  9. My entry to WZ3. Some of Aymeri's Men ambush two Ulandians on a jungle path: If I win, I'd like D3 to be the next war zone. More pictures here: Link C&C appreciated
  10. Sir A. Liddel Studd, To the Most Honorable, Magnificent, Exalted, etc., etc., Lord First Centurion, Greetings! I write to inform Your Highness of the completion of our treaty with Lord Abrim Kar’dani. As you well know, he has challenged all factions to a mass melee, in which I – solicitous as always for the rights of Ulandus, the unity of Kaliphlin, and the glory of Your Most Honorable Highness – resolved at once to take a part. As the battle progressed, it became very evident that the essential point of all was a small tower – perhaps a shrine, at all events with heavy Eastern Kaliphlin influences. The three factions were closing around this tower, and almost at the same moment all realized that it was the key to the Lonely Mountain, to a treaty with Lord Kar’dani, and perhaps even – who knows? the fortune of war is often strange – the conquest of Kaliphlin. In a flash the warriors from each side began a race toward the tower. I am reminded of my childhood, when I played king of the mountain with my brother – my long lost brother! But I will not sully this document with my own reminisces, except so far as to thank you again for all you have done in that respect upon my behalf, and to once again assure you that my loyalty is now, as ever, always with Your Highness and the island of Ulandus! To return to the battle. Three of us – as destiny or fate would have it – outstripped the rest. The first was a High Council partisan – poor, misguided folk. Them – and him – I can afford to pity. The second was a supporter of the Desert King, as his mummy costume made clear. The third was your humble and devoted servant. We reached the tower in that order, and as they reached it the other two began to climb. I had just arrived at the foot when a strange hissing sound caused the air to vibrate, and a lurid glow flashed out on the horizon, rivalling the sun itself in brightness. The next instant a fireball reached the top of the tower, knocking down the higher sections and setting the rest aflame. The poor High Council man and the mummy were to be seen no more, and their respective teams, demoralized at the sudden catastrophe, left the field in disorder. Of the rest I have little to say, save that we speedily finalized and signed a treaty with Lord Kar’dani, which treaty I have enclosed in this dispatch. Wishing you all health and success, Your most humble, devoted, loyal, etc., etc., servant, Sir A. Liddel Studd Fi-yah! Yeah, when I said you need to think height when it comes to 8x8s... I meant it! Comments are welcome! As you may imagine, I had a deal of fun with the fire ball... Thanks for checking it out!
  11. A mummy pharaoh sends an guarded chariot with goods being sent to negotiate with the Ritzen tribe. A ambassador from the tribe meets them along the road. They soon find out why this part of the road is rarely used. Untitled by mlarbconnor, on Flickr Overall view of the moc, several bandits attack the party. Untitled by mlarbconnor, on Flickr The pharaoh and his chariot. in the background you can see a bandit swimming towards them. Untitled by mlarbconnor, on FlickrThe bandits attacking the pharaoh's guards. Untitled by mlarbconnor, on Flickr The bandits soon find out that the seemingly harmless ambassador is a powerful mage. Untitled by mlarbconnor, on Flickr One bandit jumps out of the boat only to face a wave of water coming right for him, the ambassador can also be seen. Hope you enjoyed, thanks for viewing, and C&C is always appreciated.
  12. Ulandian soldiers from the Blazing Swords legion were patrolling a path towards the peak of one of the mountains in the Nestlands. They were about to check one of the numerous caves for rebels when they were suddenly attacked by a ferocious croc warrior! Extra pics: figless The back of the build For some reason I decided to build this whole cave upside down, and then SNOT and reverse the direction instead of just building it studs up. Here is a small build I made to display the Desert King warrior, who is one of the Nile Crocs' Nocturnian brethren. C and C appreciated For the Desert King!!
  13. Two courageous Desert King warriors rescue a young lady from one of the many criminals that are running amok while the High Council troops are busy fighting the war. This young lady's father happens to be the leader of a small village nearby, and both he and his daughter are very grateful of the heroic actions of these warriors. Extra pics C and C appreciated
  14. Warzone 3: The Nestlands Insurgency. Location: G15 Who Can Participate: All Factions Terrain: This battle happens in the Northern Nestlands region. (The following is Gedren_y’s description of his home territory) “The mountain in the center of the grid is known as Ghuin Nol, and is described as predominantly light colored stone. The terrain is somewhat like Asian equatorial rainforest. The Nestlands settlements are mostly on the south and east faces, but Skywatch Perch is at the peak, and is manned by the High Guard. The mountain is honeycombed with natural caves, and would be a good strategic position if someone wants to overrun the commercial and production centers of the Nestlands. There is very little drinkable ground water, as it is too mineral rich.” History: It is said that the Kaliphlin Civil War started in the Nestlands. Even before the council was willing to recognize they were at war, the Nestlands were busy fighting for their right to live as they desired, under their own rulers and religion. As the Ulandian Forces surrounded the High Council Enclaves of Mypa Stedor and Berigora, the Nestlands held out valiantly. However, overwhelming attacks by the 5th Legion subdued the Northern Nestlands region, and put a green blip on the campaign map. Some said that the Nestlands clans were fighting an unfair battle, as they pledged neutrality, and when they refused to swear allegiance to the “New Council” as Ulandus has styled the government that they are trying to install, the Blazing Swords (5th Legion) forced compliance. Mini-challenge: Now that the war is in its first month, and most of the 5th Legion has moved on to secure more territory, the Nestlands Clans have taken the fight back against the Ulandians. Small pockets of resistance, armed with Mpya Stedor weapons, have begun to overthrow the officials Ulandus had left behind. The challenge here for High Council builders is to depict one of these insurgency operations succeeding against Ulandus. Ulandian builders should depict on of the insurgency attacks failing, and Ulandus forces prevailing. Desert King builders should depict their forces taking opportune attacks against both sides. *this doesn’t mean you have to depict DK supporters attacking both sides at once, just attacking one or the other. Restrictions: 32x32 with limited overhang, SPECIAL: Must have an irregular base. (hey, we are about improving our skills here, aren’t we?) Due Date: March 29th Title Tag for MOC's thread: Title of Moc [WZ2:G15, Faction Name] When posting a link to your entry to each battle thread, make sure you note which zone you are picking as the next warzone if you win. You may want to coordinate with others from your faction. WARMAPSTARTNOWnonum by skaforhire, on Flickr

  16. The Ulanders closed in on the rebellion's last hideout, one of the many caves which dotted the Nestlands mountainsides. Unfortunately for the rebels, they stood no chance against the trained legions of Ulandus and were speedily defeated. An more head-on view: I would pick K12 as the next warzone if I win. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  17. This is a counter to Elostirion's build Stopping Reincarnation All is quiet inside this section of the crypt. A Ulandian warrior quickly passes through the hallway, and seeing nothing amiss he moves along. However this wall is different from the others across the crypt. Behind this wall lies a small chamber... Although the Ulandians had stopped the main group of Desert King supporters they did not catch all of them and one had made it to the main tomb, where he had begun a spell. The magic flowing through the crypt had some side affects, triggering many of the spells and enchantments carved into the tomb... One of the Desert King's Nocturnian allies during his original reign 2000 years ago was awakened. This powerful warlock seeks to fight for his leader once more. C and C appreciated EDIT: Oops I forgot to add [CG, D10, DK vs U] to the title. Ska could you please fix it? Here is a shot of the whole build
  18. Having heard that a man with a treasure chest wanted to talk to him, the Ulander official, who was working at his desk, was quite quick to admit him. "So," he asked, "you hope I will turn over my town in return for the contents of this chest?" "Precisely!" answered the other, opening the chest's lid and revealing a bunch of gold and sparkling diamonds. "Hmm," replied the official. "You know, though we have been separated for the mainland for two thousand years we still know your tricks... the good part is that you don't know ours! Goodbye!" The official pressed a button on his desk and the spy disappeared through the gaping hole in the floor. Walking over to the hole the Ulander laughed "Thanks for paying in advance again!" My counter to MKJ's guerrilla on G13. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  19. With the battle at Bella'Erezhi ragging around him, a Captian of the Thirteenth Ulandian Legion found himself trapped on a rock overlooking still boiling lava with Desert King mummies rushing at him from either side. That was no problem for a clever Ulander though! If I win I choose F14 as the next battleground. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome as always!
  20. A footsore band of Ulandians trudged across the rocky plateau. A long day's march lay behind them, and ahead of them the sun was setting in a glorious blaze. Squinting into it, the leader caught sight of their goal - a sliver of the mighty Flagg reservoir. It shone black against the brilliant hues of the sky, and there was something sobering about its desolate look, like a guardian watching sadly over a countryside it knew was about to be ravaged by war. "I didn't think I had it left in me, boys, but on the count of three - hip, hip, hurrah!" the leader exclaimed. The cheer was taken up by the troops and rolled down over the sand dunes as they pressed with renewed strength on their way. For the curious... I was very careful to stay within the 32x32 limit! C&C welcome!
  21. Guerilla attack on C9 Somewhere in the desert, a group of dwarves, supporting the High Council, have excavated an old shrine to the Desert King and his forefathers. Cutaway by Beorthan, on Flickr They are now distributing the wealth uncovered to the local populace, while asking the rhetorical question: "Would you rather have the toils of your hard labour hid away in shrines and temples to a self-styled god-king, demanding worship, or put into the betterment of your lives and welfare?" Close-up by Beorthan, on Flickr And an overview pic: Overview by Beorthan, on Flickr For the Republic!
  22. A counter guerrilla, against Garmadon's, The Storming of Ras-El-Akhen Wall design inspired by Gideon. After breaching the outer wall of Ras-el-akhen, the Ulander troops thought they had it made. But upon seeing the inner wall, they had second thoughts about their attack... More pictures here: Link I tried a new background for this build, any input on that welcome. C&C appreciated
  23. Fighting on the Ashes Warzone 4: "The Lonely Mountain Rumble", H9 Lutalo is a fierce warrior from the Spice Islands and a veteran from many battles including the Battle of Castle Zar in the Revolword war. He is fighting in the melee on the slopes of the volcano known as Erexhi (or "The Lonely Mountain") in Kaliphlin. As the mountain has recently erupted, the volcanic rocks and sand have been covered with a layer of pumice and ash. Lutalo's quick and advanced disarming moves have forced this Ulandian soldier into a very unfavorable fighting position... My entry to Warzone 4: The Lone Mountain Rumble in the Kaliphlin civil war. If I get a say in the matter by this build, I'd like D3 to be the next war zone.
  24. Nestlands Ambush Warzone 3: "The Nestlands Insurgency", G15 Forces from Ulandus are patrolling the jungles of the Nestlands. Troops loyal to the High Council, armed with weapons from Mpya Stedor, have staged an ambush here. Their prey, a pair of Leander heavy infantrymen in the Ulandus army patrolling along a small stream has walked straight into the trap. The peace and quiet of the forest will soon break as sharp bolts pierce the shiny Ulandian armor and color the stream with Leander blood... My entry to Warzone 3: The Nestlands Insurgency in the Kaliphlin civil war. If I get a say in the matter by this build, I'd like D3 to be the next war zone. The picture above was an experiment with a different lighting orientation with a more localized light source at an angle to give more distinct shadows and having it look like sunlight. Below is a picture with my normal diffuse lighting. What do you think? Does the upper picture look more sunny or just weird? C&C are welcome!
  25. Counter to Robuko's Guerilla against Everlast Besieged, surrounded, and blockaded by Desert King forces, the people of Everlast have been offered supplies and protection to give up control to the Desert King. However, on the town square, a group of strangers have drawn a crowd, handing out food and supplies to the people of Everlast... The Saviour by Beorthan, on Flickr On the podium, a noble-looking, charismatic gentleman is speaking in a booming, deep voice: "The socalled Desert King holds your town in an iron grip, cutting your supplies and starving your families. He claims to mean you no harm, and offers to feed and protect you for your allegiance. But from whom do you need protection? And why are you in need of food? This town has ever been able to support itself, and where it not for the troops of the false god-king, you would be in no need for his socalled gifts!" In the crowd, a low murmur of support is rising, people looking at each other, nodding in agreement, as the elderly gentleman proceeds, raising his voice: "It is said that you should not bite the hand that is feeding you, but are you to rely on this very hand for food, when it is the same hand that holds you in a stranglehold? Who is to say what the price of the next meal will be, should you give up your freedom for this? Will he, who styles himself a god, allow you to live as equals in his realm?" The People by Beorthan, on Flickr The orator looks around, meeting the gaze of many of the on-lookers, as his followers hand out large amounts of fish, meats, bread and other foods. A silence falls over the crowd under the man's serious gaze. Loudly, he continues: "The Desert King promises peace, security and an end to starvation, but at what cost? What sacrifice will this "God" require of you next? Will you give in to his demands for the scraps from his own table, or will you stand against him to preserve your freedom? The Republic of Kaliphlin stands with you, and thus, the people of all of Historica! We offer you supplies at no cost but our own peril. We require naught of you, but that you respect YOUR rights as FREE PEOPLE of these lands!" The murmur in the crowds resumes, slowly rising to a cheer... The Town by Beorthan, on Flickr "We have made it our undertaking to supply you with all you need. We have established secret, hidden routes of supply through the lines of the Foul Besieger. We have done so, not to ask for your support, but to show you that you have ours. The High Council stands as protector of the Republic, and as protector of its people. It stands as YOUR protector!" Silence falls over the plaza, as the orator pauses for a second. "So what will it be? Surrender or Stand Fast? Submission or Freedom?!? I shall leave it up to you and yours, but know that we will do our part in allowing you a free choice in this matter!" A loud cheer of support rises, and out of the noise a chanting emerges, increasing in volume, echoing throughout the valleys of Everlast: "Stand fast.... Stand Fast.... STAND FAST, STAND FAST, STAND FAST!" ____________________________________________________________________________________ That's my counter to Robuko's attempt to take over Everlast. I hope you like it :) I am quite happy with the idea, satisfied with the build and story, but somewhat dissapointed about the pics, though.
