  1. "The present state of Kaliphlin is in flux. It takes money, men, and will to wage a war; all of which have been spent over the last year." [skaForHire] Kolhamin of Petrea, as he now called himself, had lost a lot during the war. Not money. Actually, he was still rich. But power and influence. Which is what his life is about. He didn't like living in Petrea, nor did his wife or his brother, who spent most of his time on the roof terrace under the shade of the lemon tree nowadays. Pretending to be a cloth merchant was far from ideal. But Kolhamin knew that sacrifices had to be made, for the greater good of his people, and himself. Kolhamin turned on the balcony and went back inside his Petrea mansion. Maybe really not all was in vain, yet, at least. The ambassador of the Black Legion of Ulandus had just held an amazing speech. Of course, the listeners in the streets didn't even know that the man who had just talked to them was one of Ulandus most brilliant warlords. None of the listeners even realised that he talked against the Desert King and the High Councial. But he had. It would take time to prepare the people, to slowly undermine their thoughts and plant the seed of uproar against the Councilmen or the ancient King in the Desert. But it would be worth... Back inside Kolhamin waited for some minutes, until his wife in her beautiful white-and-red dress joined him. A quick smile, an elusive kiss, and they both desceded the cold staircase into their large basement. He looked around at all the slaves doing their work, as he had ordered. "Three more are ready, my lord. We are making good progress", the overseer told him. Kolhamin nodded. That was good. War needed preparation. And preparation was made. Even within the heart of Kaliphlin, where they least expected it. 2. A NOTE to all those who have not signed up yet: Please still do so!!! Even if you feel as if the challenge has already started, there is plenty of time to build for all three categories! Ulandus needs members the most, followed by High Council, then the Desert King. choose by skaforhire, on Flickr Kaliphlin Civil War Book 2, Challenge IV Starts March 1st, Deadline for Category A &B: July 1st Aftermarket products that cannot be replicated in LEGO are accepted, but should not be the defining element of a MOC. Weapons / armor from aftermarket sources is always fine. (Final Preludes will be up soon (ish), but I thought we could get rolling on general signups.) Chapters so far: Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Chapter 18 Chapter 19 Chapter 20 The Civil War is a three way battle between the Ulandians, the Desert King, and the High Council of Kaliphlin. You may sign up for the civil war on this page. The roster is at the bottom of the post. When signing up, please note your first and second choice. We will attempt to put everyone on their first choice team, but if the teams get too uneven, some people may get their second choice. choosingsides by skaforhire, on Flickr There will be three categories to this challenge. The winning and runner-up side of each category will earn points towards determining which faction won the civil war. Category A: Consequences In this category you will show something that has changed since the war started. For example, It could be a MOC about a boy becoming a man because he has to work his dad’s farm, a MOC of a person turning to a life of crime after their livelihood has been destroyed, refugees, the aftermath of a battle, etc… Anything that shows how a individual(s) life has changed because of the war. The build should clearly represent a defining moment in a person or person(s) life. Story is not a major factor here, but it may help you clarify for the readers. Restriction: 32x32 studs with reasonable overhang. Challenge B Unlimited Build / Story Challenge The story of sir Brick-a-lot. It is your job to chronicle Sir Brick-a-lot’s journey in the Kaliphlin Civil War. Sir Brick-a-lot can be your sig fig, or another fig you used for the war (no, don’t actually name him Sir Brick-a-lot). The fig does not have to be a soldier, but you should have at least a couple builds to tell their story during the Kaliphlin Civil War. Each side will be judged on the quality of the builds presented and the quality of their Heroes’ tales. If you use your Category C builds in your storyline, there is a limit of ½ of your builds may be from Category C builds. IE: If you want to use 3 of your category C builds, you must have three additional MOCs to add to your story. Category C – Dynamic War and Map Challenge Please see this thread for now on the rules. This is the actual "game" thread. It has links to the mini-challenges for each week. Please do not sign up on the preliminary rules thread, please sign up here. Also, all discussion for Category C should happen in the category C threads, that is where you will report MOCs for that category also. Category D - Victory Parade Although it may be premature, each side is throwing a victory parade in their regional capital. Builders should put together a parade in no more than six pictures. There should not be more than six parade groups (bands, floats, military units, Zem Zem go-cart formations, etc...) in your parade. Although this category will impact the outcome of the war the least, it does show to some extent the pride your side has. There is no limitation in sizes, but remember to photograph carefully for detail so that all of your parade is covered well. Finally, there should be a final picture that shows the Grand Marshall of the Parade's stand with all the dignitaries inspecting the parade. The winner of this category will be known as the Grand Master of Ceremonies of Kaliphlin. LDD - LDD will be allowed in Category C and D, but not in Category A or B (as it has always been with official challenges). Since Category C is voted on by the public, there may be people that have some bias towards digital bricks, but we will let that play out. =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+ Supporters declared: Ulandus Goliath Gunman Infernum Kai NRG Garmadon Narbilu Andrew Spader Lord Robin Alfadas Elostirion Gabe Bacon Potatoes Kayne Rconn0 Marcu22 Rogue Angel Dragonfire Igunnuk Eelu Desert King Hammerhand MKJoshA Tomsche Lord Vladivus MassEditor Emma Sir Gareth Blufiji Disco86 LordDan Jacob Nion Robuko The Lego Dwarf DrCogg Umbra-Manis Brick Man Studios Captain Braunsfeld High Council Carson Haupt De Gothia Gedren_y Soccerkid6 LittleJohn Mike S TheUtilityBelt Gideon Maxim I mrcp6d SarahJoy Mccoyed Bregir Adair Jakorin Scarst BrickCurve Graham Gidman MiloNelsiano J031 Ty3r IF I missed someone from the other thread, please let me know.
  3. The wind gamboled through the trees, Swirling through the leaves, Tossing them around as it pleased. That last d is silent. But pardon me, I have yet to introduce myself. I am Sir Akute Liddel Studd. Personally, I find the name Akute rather too bizarre for my taste, so I go by Liddel. Or, if you wish, you may call me Liddie. I sign myself Sir A. Liddel Studd. It has a nice ring to it, I think. Well, the wind was being windy, as usual. The sun was sunny, and the grass was grassy. On the whole, it was a very nice day. A perfect day for spending a few minutes by my favorite stream and trying to see if I could make sense out of all the latest confusing happenings. It was weird. This giant island had just popped up out of nowhere. Literally! No one, except those musty old Petraea University doctors, even knew it existed until just days ago. Then, on the other side of Kaliphlin, this half-cracked nut strutted around and called himself the Desert King. The High Council didn’t seem to know what to make of it all. I was in the same boat. Everything was very strange. Meanwhile, I had to choose a side. Well, that wasn’t completely true. Of course, I could just stay neutral. But I didn’t want to stay neutral. There was going to be a war and I wanted to be in on it! Besides, I had a hunch – a strange sixth sense. Maybe there was more to this island then just a bunch of ancient historical tales. And more than that, it wasn’t reasonable for the High Council to treat the islanders – Ulanders or Ulandians, they called themselves – with such contempt, peremptorily refusing to recognize their part in Kaliphlin’s government system. And it certainly wasn’t reasonable for the self-proclaimed Desert King to expect us all to bow to him now. But so what? Who cared what was reasonable for the Desert King and the High Council? What was reasonable for me? There were really two options. Follow what my judgement told me would be the logical thing – keeping Kaliphlin the same as it had always been, with the High Council – or, throw reason to the wind and follow my gut. What good is reason? I followed my gut. * * * So that was how I got from a peaceful stream to an overhanging rock in the middle of the ocean, in training, fighting against mock mummies for the security of Ulandus. And not just that. I was at the important battle in the Witherwoods – or somewhere like that, I never was any good at place names. You may have read my dispatch. Ageven never did get me to understand how it got leaked, but somehow it did. Well, we won that battle. I’m right glad to think I had something to do with it. But… we lost most of the other battles. Even ones I was present at. We lost the battle to take over the sands of Kaliphlin. We lost the battle to keep dragons away from the southlands. We lost the battle to make a bubbling swamp into a recreational oasis. We lost the battle to keep our capital. And we really lost the battle to take over Kaliphlin’s capital, Petraea. I blame that on the fact that Ageven couldn’t remember my name. And on the fact that Maxersine – or Dratiphe, I’m not sure which one – messed up on the date of the battle. It’s a good thing I make a point of being early! But we didn’t give up! Not us! We manufactured this elaborate plan to sneak into the Desert King’s capital and kill off the highest official we could find. With our track record though, the result shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. We lost. And I started to think that my gut had been more or less totally wrong this time. * * * Still, just because we lost all those battles didn’t mean we had lost the fight. And it didn’t mean that all my hopes were back in the same place Ulandus had been before it rose from the ocean. But before we get into that, I should probably explain what my hopes were. * * * The fact is, I had a brother. Oh, I know, that doesn’t sound so impressive. But my brother was far older than I, fifteen years older in fact. I never knew my parents, and it was my brother who raised me until I was ten. He was a bit of a harum-scarum sort of youngster. At first, he was just playing pranks on everyone and everything, but gradually he became more and more adventurous. Early on, he would drag me around with him. To say truth, I rather enjoyed that. Once we spent a few days roaming around the Salt Sea. Then, another time we dropped by the Island of Gorr. Those were the good days. But then my brother decided that this was no life for a youngster. He wanted me to settle down, he said. Personally, I thought it was already too late. But I was left with a large family that had been friends of my parents. My brother went off on his own. I enjoyed my life there, it’s true. They were kind to me, and I was allowed to ramble around the countryside, as long as I was back in time for supper. I remember once when I got so excited exploring some ruins that I didn’t get back to my adopted parents until bedtime. Fortunately it was summer and still fairly light. But I sure caught it that time! Every so often my brother would come back, full of adventurous, exciting tales of his travels. I burned to be older and able to roam around like him. But one time, he didn’t come back. I waited. And waited. I must have driven everyone around me nuts by my importunate questions. One day, a passing merchant informed me that he had met my brother near what is now Auner. He was about to embark on a voyage to the “deep south,” the merchant said. He had tried to dissuade him – unsuccessfully of course. That was all I ever heard. Years later, when the threat of war became imminent, I told my adopted parents of my plans to fight for Ulandus. They shook their heads, but let me go. I had a bigger reason for fighting for Ulandus than just a desire to be in on it and to stick up for the underdog. I had a weird feeling that somehow, this island would provide a clue. Why had my brother disappeared? Where had he gone? At the outset, my inquiries weren’t very helpful. Thanks to the introduction provided by Ageven Deraim, the First Centurion did interest himself a bit on my behalf, but no one seemed to know what had happened. So I gave up the quest – for the time being – and went on my way to fight Ulandus’ battles. * * * Well, as I’ve already stated, we pretty well lost the first campaign. And things weren’t shaping up too well for the next three. For the matter of that, I had pretty well lost my brother’s scent. And things weren’t looking good about getting it back! But in the interim, and despite the Desert King hordes, I did a little poking around. I discovered that, in fact, my brother had taken a voyage to the south. And I discovered that the ship he had voyaged in had never returned. Not only that, but a ship that answered pretty closely to the description I had was found wrecked on the Ulandian coastline, near the brand new Serpent’s Crawl. But there my information ended. No one seemed to know of any survivors. In fact, one of the peasants nearby assured me that he had visited the wreck the very day it arrived and had counted out 24 bodies, which had been buried the next day. In fact, I could still see the 24 little mounds. But there had been 25 people on the ship. What were the odds that the missing one was still alive? And what were the odds that he was my brother? In any case, obviously the best place to look was right around the wreck. So I started there, and gradually expanded my search, until I had visited every house within a three day’s walk. Nothing. No one knew of any shipwrecked voyager that had passed that way three years before the crawl was lifted. One day, dispirited, I walked along the crawl itself. Suddenly a deceptively secure looking patch of moss gave way. I found myself tumbling down the steep, muddy banks, clutching anything that looked like it might offer a handhold, rolling down with gathering speed, like a snowball. Only I think I looked more like a mud ball. I landed splat in a pool of water. I wiped the mud and leaves out of my face and looked around. Right in front of me I spotted a rather dirty and disheveled individual. To say truth, at first I mistook it for my reflection. I dare say that was about what I looked like at the moment. Before we go any farther, I may as well as put you out of suspense at once. It was not my brother. And I should also mention that, back in Xerxia, the capital, the victory parades were being celebrated – rather prematurely, I thought. But then, if you’re doomed to lose, you may as well as have the victory party first. You won’t get much of a chance to later! Besides the customary pageants and finery and whatnot, they were also going to honor some nincompoop who had spent three years on a super-secret underground task and finally discovered the key to raising the Serpent’s Crawl. All that was part of the reason I hadn’t had trouble getting permission to poke around down here. Anyhow. To return. Naturally, I asked this man the same thing that I had been asking everyone I saw for the past three days. “Did you see a sailorly looking young man with blondish hair, kind of like my own, and dark eyes – also kind of like my own – in or around this area, about this time four years ago, having just been shipwrecked and being the sole survivor of a crew of 25 – 24 of whom lie buried near their ship yonder – and who had just come from Kaliphlin’s mainland?” (The first few times I had just said, Kaliphlin, and nearly got ducked into the ocean for it. These Ulandians are very staunch on their identity as Kaliphlinians!) To which most people replied, “Would you be so kind as to repeat that?” This particular individual was no different. After I went over it two or three times, he said that unless I was talking about the nincompoop who had raised the Serpent’s Crawl, he hadn’t seen anyone. I made some sort of disagreeable navel sound and prepared to climb back up. Suddenly I stopped. It was like a brick hit me on the head. Maybe this nincompoop – er, hero – was my brother! Well, there’s no use dragging it out. He was. So, despite my complete dislike of camels, I rushed back to Xerxia. And we – well, I wish I could say that we lived happily ever after, but we’re not dead yet. So I don’t know. For what it’s worth, so far, so good! The builds under spoilers are the ones that were also category C entries. 7 of them, and 7 other builds. I'm afraid the size doesn't quite match up in some cases but I was rather running out of time there toward the end! Comments are welcome! If you read the whole story - I'll give you a round of applause!
  4. Before the war, life in the isle of Morkerna was simple. Everyone lived peacefully, and the town was reasonably safe. And I was innocent. I was a young girl with few worries. I was happy. Isolated as it is, I had hoped that the war wouldn't affect Morkerna much. Indeed, at first, it seemed as though life would go on as normal. But the war affects everyone, and avoiding it can only delay its effects. The impact was subtle at first: a few men gone to battle, an old knight killed. But as time went on, the war began to change Morkerna even more. The atmosphere became tense; nobody felt safe, and it seemed like a fight could break out any minute. People that I knew began to be killed. Life had changed. After a month, I realized that I needed to do something. One day, I saw children walking down a road pushing a catapult, preparing to fight. When I returned home that night, I found my parents dead, killed by supporters of the Desert King. That was when I realized that if I didn't get involved in the war, everyone would be changed for the worse. I joined the armies of Ulandus and went into battle. We went through many battles, large and small... Along the way, I met a wizard named Gremlon. I took up his offer of protection, and he saved my life during a failed siege. But all the same, I do not trust him; he is too unwilling to share information. It feels as though there is something he is hiding from me, and it worries me. The war, ultimately, has destroyed my life. In the past, I had hoped to be a simple townsperson, living in Morkerna without having to worry about war. Now, with my parents dead, I must fend for myself, while figuring out how to deal with Gremlon. ___ Enjoy! You can see more photos on the flickr albums: 1 2 3
  5. The stuff hurled itself against the rocks in waves of foam, dashing its spray into the air and giving off its ghastly, horrifying sound. I stared at it in horror –the stuff was before me, rolling out in sheets as far as the eye could see. Turning, I ran to my father with a cry in my throat which my mummified tongue refused to utter. The awful roar of the rollers deafened me, they seemed to be overwhelming me, I was sinking, sinking into that eternal abyss of- “Historica to Dave!” roared the commander of my regiment, “You can get in now.” “Sir!” I replied, shaking myself out of the awful trance and gazing at the frail craft to which he pointed. “Um, sir? Do you think I can get in that thing sir?” He only smiled and nodded. “Uh, sir, are you sure it’s safe?” Another smile and nod. “Well, sir, I’m not sure I…” “Dave!” “Ok sir, your call. Uh, you can’t say I didn’t warn you!” I stepped cautiously into the little reed boat, which began to rock quite dangerously. My companion was shoved in by the commander and the rocking increased. I closed my eyes and shuddered. The commander gave the order to shove off… and then went and shoved everyone off himself since nobody actually wanted to paddle around in those things. Oh the horror! Paddling those things around would have been enough to drive any sensible mummy insane! However, the worst part by far was when we approached our destination. We were all looking forward to having our feet on dry land again and leaving those detestable crafts floating in the- the unnamable thing! But things just continued on their downward course - as things tend to do when once poorly started - and on nearing the docks we saw that the enemies were quite ready for us. We prepared for the fight when they took those horrible pikes they were wielding and started poking holes in our frail boats! The un-nameable thing began to flow rapidly into the craft, and as I leapt back in horror I saw that the boat in front of us was already half submerged while the remaining mummy desperately attempted to bail. How I survived that dreadful day is more than I can recite. When I finally came to myself the mad camp surgeon was trying to get me to drink. What!? I grabbed the bottle out of his hand, broke it over his head, and glared at him. “What in the world do you mean by that!?” I thundered at him. “You are better I assume?” he responded smiling weakly. “I should suppose so, no thanks to you!” I retorted, taking my most respectful leave of the doctor. “Ah, Dave, good to see you still in the land of the not-drowned!” exclaimed my commander when he saw me. “Well, well, I don’t think there is much fear of that in this work. It appears they have just finished undermining the walls, so you can go ahead with the invading force if you like. Or even if you don’t, for it really doesn’t much matter.” He winked. It was a bit disconcerting, but I went ahead and, gathering together my weapons, headed down with the main force of the army. It took some time for my eyes to adjust to the darkness and it was tricky work to avoid capsizing the supports and knocking down the tunnel on top of one’s self, but somehow we kept advancing until we were nearly under the walls. Suddenly I ran into the soldier in front of me. Then the soldier behind me ran into me. A hoarse and gurgling cry rang out in the darkness. With one action we turned and rushed out of the tunnel, but it was too late. One second later the thing had swept me off my feet and was dashing me with tremendous force into the rest of my companions. Two more second of unutterable agony and I flashed out of the tunnel into the open air… and landed somewhere in the middle of next week. I was dreaming a wonderful dream of a treehouse up in a palm tree somewhere very, very far away from that horrible tunnel, a place from which I could laugh at all the armies in Kaliphlin, when my commander rudely called me back to myself. “Uh, Dave?” queried my commander. “Nothing wrong I hope.” He was dashing cold water on my face. “What are you thinking!” I roared. “Do you all know nothing of how to heal a mummy without using that! That is it! No more army life! I never want to hear or see that thing ever again!” I hastily gathered up my belongings and began to march away double quick. “Dave!?” shouted my commander, “one last thing. I was just going to tell you that it is about to start raining.” Challenge IV done at last! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  6. Amidst the cheers of the populace, the victory parade rumbled down the street. Flowers strewed the gold colored streets, and the flags lined the avenue. Up ahead, Ageven stood ready to receive the symbol of the Desert King's power, now in the hands of Ulandus! If only the actual power were there too. Anyhow! The parade marched on, figuring important characters from the previous campaigns. Lights and pomp flashed up and down the street. Ageven stood up and gave a long, victory speech. It sounded kind of eloquent. But perhaps it was merely evaporation. After all, that's the way to do it! Victory first, war afterwards! A complete overview: I tried to experiment with different kinds of lighting - thus the green hue in the first picture... I can't say it turned out overly well... I also would have liked to build something a touch bigger, but se la vie! C&C appreciated!
  7. The desolate ruins of an inn stood up in stark contrast to the blue sky. Ruin and desolation. This was what war led to. A little boy presently appeared in the courtyard, wrapped in a cape that was a bit too large for him. He fought back tears as he surveyed the sad scene. Determination was visible in every line of his countenance. "I will avenge you, father!" His voice choked. He held a short knife in his right hand. Slowly, sadly, he turned to leave. When he reached the last point from which he could view what had been his home, he looked back briefly. Then, shaking his fist in the direction of the enemy who had consummated the tragedy, he pursued his way. But wherever he went, he would always remember that day. And the thought of it would, for good or ill, nerve his arm in battle and steel his conscience in deeds of war. Deeds perhaps as dreadful as that of which he had become a victim. Because war feeds on itself. And it leaves no one unchanged. Sorry for the rather melodramatic story. Here's a shot of the whole build! Credit to MKJ for the idea of an inn with a walkway underneath!
  8. Off to War! - there is no other experience which so rocks the course of life and leaves such vacancy behind it with those wondering if they who leave so full of life and health will ever return with the same. Thus it is always - war can never wipe through a land without leaving its bloody and tearful trail behind it. Another Ulandian entry to Category A and another very melancholy story... Sorry about that! A picture of the full build: Figless: I would like to receive UoP credit for: Architecture - roofing (2) Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  9. Title pretty much says it all! Into the water too, no less! A bit of an experiment with the different scale figs. After all, it works pretty well! C&C welcome!
  10. The Ulandians sneak up on a small castle high up in the mountains... The micro-figure Ulandians Micro-scale is so much fun! My last guerrilla for Challenge IV - it's hard to believe I just said that! Anyways, thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  11. "Divide and conquer, that's how we'll do it!" the Desert King was said to have declared. He boasted that no street of the capital did not have at least one Desert King soldier. He seems to have gotten the quote a little off though... The unfortunate mummies were constantly getting trapped between High Council and Ulandian troops... Figless: My last build for Category C! For some reason I thought WZ10 wasn't due 'til the end of this week, so my planned humongous 48x48 ended up a bit smaller Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  12. A pirate Desert King ship attacked a city they thought was in flames... only to discover that the smoke was really coming from a beacon tower calling in some reinforcements. The pirate ship was caught off guard, burnt, and sunk... maybe it's time the Desert king starts investing in faster ships! Without the ships: My counter to LordDan's guerrilla on M18. I think I got all the flags and sails ship-shape this time around Anyways, thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  13. After winning their way into the city of Sultan's Gate with an impressive performance, the minstrels quickly found the point at which the great victory parade was to begin. Striking up their noisy tune, the minstrels began to livened up the parade, with the crowd gathered in the streets and rooftops cheering wildly - so much so, in fact, that the guard who had let them in was even starting to hope that he might get a raise! The Minstrels: Part one of the guerrilla. Credit goes to Marcu for the window and street design... to whom I now turn this over for the final part Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  14. It seemed like the Desert King was taking over. Square after Ulandian square had succumbed to his voracious appetite. Things looked like they would never get better. Until the Ulandians lit a beacon. A beacon calling all true Kaliphlinians to rally round their standard. A beacon warning all the enemies of freedom to beware. A beacon of hope. We may have lost the battle. But the fight's not over yet! Whew. I think that was the last week for guerrillas. Man, I thought this day would never come! C&C welcome!
  15. Counter to MKJ's build. Turns out the Scarlet Magnolia tried to pull off the same ol' trick again. But we Ulandians aren't about to fall for that! Hiding behind the skeleton?! Seriously?! Been a little while since I've done an interior, this was a fun build!
  16. The serpent wanted a sacrifice. So the Ulandians decided to have a barbecue. A giant barbecue. A serpent barbecue. Would you like a cut? Of course, with all the active men off soaking the land with Desert King blood (or whatever flows through mummies veins), it was a bit of a challenge to cook it all with only older men and boys. Still, they managed somehow. At least there won't be any shortage of meat for a long time to come! Just the fire pit. C&C welcome! I would have liked to build something that really looked like robuko's monster, but unfortunately I don't have any of those eyes with me!
  17. A Ulandian privateer sneaks past the High Council lookouts - who were all fast asleep - on the west coast of Ulandus Kaliphlin - its really all the same thing, no?! A guerrilla build against the HC... thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  18. Ulandus may not be doing to terribly well, but we're still more than ready to chase those mummies right up a tree! And when mummies are caught trying to hide in saplings... bad things happen. To them. Runnnnn! A shot of the vig by its lonesome. It was nice to finally work at a size where I could actually do some dense ground grass!
  19. Okay, okay, paella monster. Whateever! Counter to robuko. As it turns out, the "brother's" cooking was so good, it attracted an uninvited guest!
  20. "Why did you bring me here, Grandpa? It's dark, and gloomy, and cold, and hard!" "I brought you here to teach you something, son. Not too long ago, a group of Desert King men were giving away 'free money,' they claimed, to all the people in this city." "Why on earth would they do that, Grandpa?" "Because they wanted the people to believe that the Desert King was very nice and generous. But we knew better. We knew that there is no such thing as a free lunch. There had to be strings somewhere. Our wise councilors disguised one of themselves as a common person and managed to get a hold of a bag of money. They discovered that it was all counterfeit! Even the gold wasn't the real stuff, it was diluted and fake!" "So what happened to the mummies, Grandpa?" "Well, they were caught, and, see! There they are! Let that be a lesson to you, youngster! Never try to pass out counterfeit money! Crime doesn't pay!" "It sure doesn't, Grandpa. They look pretty miserable!" Overview: Any comments are appreciated! Edit: Grand Duke!
  21. Before the war, I had a real family. I was happy. I lived an innocent life at my home near Zelpunra's Tower. But my parents died during the war, and now I have no true family. Gremlon, that old wizard everyone knows about, is watching over me, but it's not the same. It doesn't feel safe here anymore. I used to come to this stream to wade in the cool water; now I come here ready to fight my enemies. When will this ever end? More pictures can be seen on my flickr This is my entry for Category A of Challenge IV. It's one of my smallest serious builds in a long time, and I really love how it turned out . I had a lot of fun incorporating as many angles as possible in the landscaping, which was also an experiment with a color scheme I've been wanting to try out for a while. This build was also a way for me to experiment with a new angled whitewash technique, as well as a new stonework technique. I quite like how they both turned out, although they're pretty complex . Enjoy! C&C is welcome.
  22. "So here we are," one minstrel hissed to another. "Look at it! Are we in Nocturnus, or Kaliphlin?" "I know - two Nocturnian flags to every one Kaliphlinian!" Then the second speaker continued in a louder tone, "Here we are boys! The city of cities, capitol for the majestic, the glorious, Desert King!" The rest of the gang broke out in confused murmurs of admiration. "How well the citizens around here fare!" one of the minstrels continued, in a show voice. "Without a doubt, the city of the Desert King is the city to be in!" The small crowd that had gathered around the band nodded their approval. Behind them, however, a Desert King guard pushed is way over with a scowling face. "Hold it there," he growled. "We don't need none of your flattery. Get back to whatever place you came from. We have our own victory parade and don't need any help!" The minstrel who was evidently the leader ignored the guard and turned towards his comrades. "You hear that! A victory parade! Boy are we in luck! Just in time to sing the praises of the glorious Desert King all throughout town! Man, I hate to think what the parade might have been like if we had gotten here too late! This is just perfect!" "Hold it right there, I say again! You're not getting in no parade. You're not getting in no city!" "What?!" the head minstrel exclaimed in fake astonishment. "You refuse our beautiful music? Straight from the halls of Petraea University, I assure you. Here boys, lets give 'em a line," he added, nodding toward the growing crowd. And without further ado, the entire band struck up with an impressive cacophony that could be heard for miles! At the end of their brief performance, the crowd cheered wildly. Reluctantly, the guard yielded to the people's wishes and let the minstrels through. Another close-up: A view around the back: Comments are welcome! Thanks for checking it out!
  23. Things got a little hectic as everyone and their dog tried to get a hand on the "Thing". But as usual, Ulandus came out on top! "This was NOT what I signed up for!" "I can reach... I can almost reach!" This was pretty fun, much easier to do the second time around - I remember having all kinds of trouble last time I tried this sort of balancing act. To be sure, it was only on one stud then, which I dare say made it even more complicated. Anyhow, the end result of this made me happy! Comments are appreciated!
  24. The Ulandians beat back the invading Desert King troops for the important thing-a-ma-bob which supplies the first Centurion's power - or something like that! Nobody really knows how it works or what it does, but they sure are making a huge racket throughout Xersia because of them! The all-important whats-his-name!! My entry to WZ17... I thought an interior would look pretty nice for this one. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  25. The Ulanders and citizens of the Ocean District lay a trap for the traitorous traders who have sided with the Desert King... A close up of the chase on the street: And the guy on the roof, Before all the commotion Each of the buildings has an interior, the other two can be seen on my photostream Any chance of getting the UoP credit for History this time? I've been told that the third time's the charm Also, I would like to receive credit for: Architecture - roofing (2) and Architecture - wall techniques (3) If I win I would like H4 to be the next warzone. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
