  1. New Era of Weapons by mpoh98, on Flickr 2013 MocOlympics Round 2: Matthew Oh verses Chris Stone and his awesome entry. Category: Brains vs. Brawn What unfolds when athletes and geeks go head to head? Or should I say, arm to head? Build us a battle of mind verses muscle. Who do you think would win? Hey all, Just barely got an entry in! Built it all today (except for the base) after church. Yeah, busy week and 1/2 of school and life (and also a different Avalonia backstory build, will post that soon). If you don't know how it relates to the category, basically, the "Brawn" is the castle, super thick, and impregnable (or they think). But then came along a new era of weapons, with the Chinese alchemists inventing gunpowder, and along came cannons and guns ("Brains"). So I tried new techniques, with using new pieces I got. A big inspiration was Mark Erickson and his (LCC) Restoring Justice creation. Thanks Mark! :D</i> New Era of Weapons by mpoh98, on Flickr New Era of Weapons by mpoh98, on Flickr Soli Deo Gloria! 2. My first entry into The Castle Battle Contest over on flickr! This is a great contest, thanks Mark! Finally, I have the time to post it! Built over a period of several months, this is my largest creation to date. Incorporating lots of my favorite techniques, this was fun to build, and see come together. I am extremely pleased that I had enough light bluish gray bricks to build the gateway and the towers. Aidan Frusher helped with the base, thanks a lot buddy! :D Enjoy! (Story coming later. :D ) Soli Deo Gloria!

    MOC: A Very Special Build

Here is the castle ring holder I built for my sister and her (now!) Husband. The king and queen had the rings hanging off the sword and cup, Batman and the Fairy are to represent my sister and her hubbie. There are a number of little added animals that they are both fond of. It has an extra little chunk under the plate of the base so my brother could carry it safely without covering/damaging any feaures. The officials at the registry office were very impressed with the model, the officiator of the ceremony said it made her day! (And then told every member of the family how much she liked it!) To set the tone, I must add that they walked down the aisle to the March from Superman and used her favourite arrangement of Aerith's theme while they signed everything. They cut the castle shaped cake with a replica of a LotR Elven sword... Yeah...

    (MOC)-Modular Medieval Tower

Hello to everyone. Today I would like to introduce one of the latter MOC I've built. It's an ancient tower, restored and converted into a Museum. It's my first fully original Modular Building and the first to be completely designed with LDD. Each store has its own display of medieval stuff. Each floor has its own structure of wooden beams. I love castles ... But my idea of a giant castle does not agree at all with the available space in my house. I've taken the opportunity to to use some techniques to build the tower. In particular, I've taken care of the shape of the windows, creating the inclination of the walls as in the existing medieval fortresses, and I've tried to create realistic gargoyles. Unlike the original design and the fact that once built, it appeared a bit "stubby", I added a floor with a clock. The white panel is actually a Mobile Phone Antenna... we can usually see these antennas on higher buildings... The top floor has a wooden staircase leading to the terrace on top of the tower from which minifigs can admire the view of their city. www.flickr.com/photos/kevin8/sets/72157631268893806

    Princess Rescue

It was my entry for the Heroica RPG Contest. Now i`ve changed it, and you can learn more about Story, which was named as "Princess Rescue". Sorry for my English Heroica RPG Contest Entry by balthazar_heyward, on Flickr Heroica RPG Contest Entry by balthazar_heyward, on Flickr Heroica RPG Contest Entry by balthazar_heyward, on Flickr Balthasar quickly jumped off on the earth. - The princess, jump! - I am afraid! - The ivy ends in only two meters from the earth. They won't calm down, yet won't find you. Jump! The princess in reply only cringed and, timidly shifting from one foot to the other, jumped off on the cold earth... The sun was shinig the last rays on the rocks, warming them before cold night... Balthasar shuddered. Rustle. Everything seems to be hostile. Behind them came the noise of battle. I hope, they will detain "Dragons" for a long time. Otherwise we won't manage to leave. He looked at the princess. She walked quickly, her dress was in the mud, in her clothes were stuck twigs of ivy ... But the crown firmly perched on her head. What waits for us further? And who gave out them information about the princess? Thoughts of treachery enraged Balthazar. I never would betray... But everything is possible. Who knows, what the future prepares for us? The sun was already gone, mountains were captured by darkness... Two went on a mountain track. Towards to uncertainty... Balthazar & Princess by balthazar_heyward, on Flickr C&C Are Welcome! P.S. "Faithful to death. No chance of success. So what are we waiting for?"

  11. Hello, I just was wondering... am I the only one who bought tons of those sets with 6 or 5 minifigures in them? City, Space, Castle and Pirates... they were FANTASTIC! I really miss a lot those sets. Why doesn't Lego produce them any more? Who would like to have them back? Battlepacks do not reach all countries, and actually they are the closest thing to those sets... but not exactly same thing. So... comments?
  12. Set Number: 70402 Name: The Gatehouse Raid Theme: Castle Year of Release: 2013 Pieces: 248 Minifigures: 4 Price: $29.99 USD Links: Flickr image gallery Bricklink Brickset This set's boxart distinguishes it as the only one in the line which has the silouettes of two of the line's other models in the background. The others either have none or only one of the two you can see here (70403 Dragon Mountain and 70404 King's Castle, the remaining larger two I plan to review next). Such an inconsequential detail may seem unremarkable, but it's like giving teasers of what's to come in order from smallest to largest! The figures include two knights and two soldiers, two of each faction. The Red Dragon knight has a beastplate with a laminar-style armor print but has underneath it the same lamellar-style torso print as the Red Dragon soldier. You'd think the Crownie Lion knight would have the same tunic torso print as the Crownie solder underneath his breastplate, but actually has the cuirass torso print - a little redundant I think! The leg printing is nice, the Crownie sword is again like a shorter version of the classic chrome greatsword, the Red Dragon knight has the broadsword introduced for the Lord of the Rings license, and the Crownie Lion knight has a new single-sided head with ginger muttonchops and a goatee, as well as eyebrows and crow's feet. The back printing is nice as always, and you can see the Red Dragon knight has an expression of aggression printed on the other side of the head with the same eyebrows and stubble pattern etc. The siege engine bears the red 1x1 "cheese" slope motif used for other vehicles including the carriage in the previously reviewed smaller set, 70401 Gold Getaway, and a battering ram in the larger 70404 King's Castle I have yet to review, the latter of which confirms that the pattern may be meant to evoke the appearance of a dragon by their spiny osteoderms. Just to be clear, the trans-orange 1x1s are meant to be the firey projectiles for this catapult. The new barding - or caparison - is more open in the back to accommodate the rearing ability of the new horse. The red, unprinted criniere/champron on the horse's neck/head does not conflict with the top/front edge of the caparison as the head is rotated down. Of the few interesting things that can be said about the gatehouse, the 2x2 dark tan tile with the central stud effectively prevents the gate from opening out in the wrong direction, and the central merlon at the top of the tower provides a magic crystal and a lion-emblazoned heater shield (while those used by the knights below are both kite shields). Why magic? I can't imagine what else mysteriously teleports the guard up there! The catapult below seems almost as inaccessible and nearly as useless considering that it can't be aimed to adjust the trajectory of its projectiles. As usual, the extra parts include some spare weapons, accessories (plumes), as well as some various Technic/1x1 bits and pieces. Thanks for reading, and remember to vote above and comment bellow!
  13. Hello all! Well, here is my first try at microscale castle building! Unfortunately, with being so busy with school, I wasn't able to spend a lot of time on this, but here it is! I tried to incorporate as many techniques as I could with what pieces I had, S.N.O.T, snotted rockwork, and other techniques by Kyle Ransom. The boat design is his as well! Enjoy! Soli Deo Gloria! 14. Set Number: 70403 Name: Dragon Mountain Theme: Castle Year of Release: 2013 Pieces: 376 Minifigures: 5 Price: $49.99 USD Links: Flickr image gallery Bricklink Brickset This is a review of the new Dragon Mountain set of the 2013 Castle line. It is the only set of this line with figures other than soldiers and kings, and it is the only set of the line with Crownie siege equipment. e The box contains three numbered bags, dragon parts sorted into smaller bags, but the dragon wings and octagonal plates are loose. The minifigures include one Crownie knight with a doudle-sided head and a cuirass print under his breastplate (front, back), one Crownie pikeman with a gorget torso print (front, back), one redheaded princess (front, back), one Red Dragon swordsman (front, back) and one fearsome Red Dragon Wizard (front, back). The two unique figures in the set, the princess and the wizard, both have nice back printing like the other figures. The wizard has the same style of beard as Sensei Wu of the Ninjago line and the Collectible Minifigures Series 7 figure Ocean King, both of which sported it in white, whereas this is the first set to have it in black. I find it odd that the head on the wizard isn't as unique as is his position of power, but is used for various lackeys in the Red Dragon faction. Additionally, the rubbery red hair looks to me like it's wet and limp, its strange color aside. I think this is because it was created for the Friendsfigs, and so the hairline sits lower on the System minifigure's forehead, owing to its awkward appearance. Here's the dragon (front, back). As far as I can tell, it's structurally identical to those from the 2007 skeleton Castle line, just with different colors, printing, and small details such as the horns. The dragon has a 2x2 space between the wings for a figure to sit or stand and yes, the fire is mounted on his lower jaw. The Crownie seige engine, front and back: The model itself (back) consists of three modules that come apart but can only be assembled in two ways: one with the bridge connecting the two larger segments as on the box and with its small catapult facing forward, and one with the bridge flipped around and the catapult facing backwards (if that makes much of a difference - the catapult can't rotate at all). On the matter of some of the larger weaknesses in the design, the bridge doesn't seem accessible from either end and the two light bluish gray inverted slopes on the far end of the wizard's hut mirror the two on the other side supporting the bridge but don't attach to anything themselves, leaving those odd hollow studs. The treasure chest is nested in a curious manner on the front of the hut, but the other module's use of lone castle window panel perhaps appears weaker. The interiors are nicely furnished however, with a lackey lounge under the jail and a magic lab below the dragon roost (those are two keys clipped adjacent to each other on the left). The new spider web seems less useful with its unnecessary modification, for the old one could have been used clipped to another length of rigid hose, five studs long in this case. Finally, here are two shots of the back of the small tower. Other than new minifigure prints and parts, parts of interest include the two octagonal plates, the castle wall panel in dark bluish gray (only existing in this set and in 4194), the stair piece in dark tan (only in one other set, 79103), a new 4x4 modified "facet" brick in black (It previously only existed as a 2x2, 3x3, or 5x5), a POTC gold bar (which only exists regularly in chrome in this 2013 Castle line), a rigid hose three studs in length and in reddish brown, a new clip plate (unique to this set and the large Friends set 41015 as of this moment), the slightly new style of carrot top as previously described in the Forest Ambush review, the 1x1 round tile with the printed lock (used in all but the smallest set of this line), and the 1x1 round tile in blue (only existing here and in 70003). Extra parts include 1x1s, minifigure accessories, technic pins, and a duplicate of that useful tube part, the 3L rigid hose. Also included in the set is a brick separator of the newer style. Design: 2/5 - Even though the set has some interior decoration, the walls seem rather insubstantial in places and the tower has no accessibility and hardly any space. The bridge is useless, and the whole build doesn't look that great. The colors in the lower floor are good, but the tower, bridge, and platform overuse red and black. The dragon's design seems too &lt;insert that tiresome argument&gt; and the catapult blocky. Build: 3/5 - Building this set was interesting, as hardly any steps were repeated - almost every step in the instructions was unique. The set has very few large pieces, with the exception of almost every part for the dragon. Playability: 4/5 - The dragon allows for more playability, and the chest of gold and prison are more things for kids to play with. There aren't any very interesting playability techniques like a trapdoor or the staircase spinning shut. Parts: 5/5 - There are a number of new parts introduced here and no sticker sheet. The pieces overall are decently useful to builders of castle-themed creations. New wizard minifigure prints are introduced here, as well as another dress print. This is also one of two sets to have the kite-shaped Red Dragon shield, the other being 70402. Price: 4/5 - $50 for this set is an okay price, but the price per piece is 13.3 cents, a bit above average. The dragon is probably the influencing factor in that. Overall: 4/5 - This is a good set for castle builders. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone not building medieval creations, as the price per piece is higher than other better sets, and the dragon is entirely useless in all non-fantasy creations. The playability is sure to attract kids, and the set's build experience is better than many elaborate-yet-repetitive builds. 16. For the summer L13 contest of the Brickpirate forum into the Architecture section, I choose to reproduce a castle built into the XVIII century : the Haroué Castle situed into Lorraine, France. The real castle The Haroué castle or Haroué Palace is situed into the centre of the Haroué village, south of Nancy. It has been built from 1720 to 1729 on a ancient castle preseving its 4 main towers and the moats. The castle presents interesting characteristics relatied to a year : - 365 windows, - 52 chimneys, - 12 towers (some are included into the building), - 4 bridges over the moats. Today, it is still occupied by the descendants of prince Marc de Beauvau-Craon who was the initial owner. Source Wikipedia (french). More information and nice pictures can be obtained on its website. Some pictures taken from the sky : The main structure is easier to get when the trees are without their limbs : Starting the Architecture version As an introduction, I would only cite Adam Reed Tucker who designed many officiel Architecture sets : The challenge may not seem so obvious: straightforward design and basic LEGO elements, what else could you ask for? However, there are two not so obvious challenges even with a seemingly easy build, namely those of scale and proportion. The aim is then to get the good scale which allows to respect the proportions of a building using LEGO parts and to try to include characteristics details in such a way that the building is immediately identifiable to the people who know it. For tis castle, the starting point are the towers at the corners because, at this scale, it is not possible to use other parts that 2x2 round bricks with a cone on top. This fixes the scale of the MOC as illustrated by this drawing where 2 cm corresponds rougly to 2 studs : At this scale, from the 4 mains characteristics points given above, the chimneys have been sacrified (most of such castle have chimneys), only the 6 outside towers are kept in order to preserve the U form of the castle, the nulber of windows has been reduced but the 4 bridges are present. Finally, as a main decorative element, the huge trees of the forward court allowing to date the representation at the end of spring after rain. MLCAD virtual model. Virtual modelling is well adapted for Architecture MOCs because it alloxs to have a good idea of the final rendering, to have an accurate parts list and to show the buildings steps into a small movie. The real model. It follows accurately the virtual one : I have only modified the portal and added tiles for the description stickers (the writing have been added using photoshop). The pictures below describe the MOC better than my words. More pictures are available by clicking on the small ones : To end, the Architecture like box of this MOC. I hope you will enjoy this french caslte's MOC.

    Forngord Castle

My last free build for chapter 1 of Historica. My little brother helped me a bit with this, and it is our largest build (footprint wise anyway ) yet. There is a full interior to the castle, and quite a few of the doors/trapdoors work. Joktan, Jayan, Erastus, Dedan, and Kenan, along with the Hradcanny dwarves are attacking Forngord Castle. The castle, located in southern Mitgardia, has been long abandoned, but recently the Hand of Corruption has taken residence there: Quite a few more pics here: link I think this is either my favorite or second favorite build, tied with my Fortress of Cameria build. Any C&C appreciated, the first chapter of GoH has been awesome and here's to an even better second chapter!

    МОС "White castle"

Faction Dragons preparing to land invasions faction Lviv. For protection of the native land in one of the outposts of the Kingdom of the faction of Lviv, in a place called «Lisya Nora» located directly on the cliffs near the light green of the forest, going 4 Voivod-ally for the coordination of protective measures and a possible preemptive strike with several sides on army faction Dragons. Himself Outpost consists of two towers connected by a wall, closing the narrow passage between the rocks near the intersection of three roads almost in the center of the Kingdom of Lviv. Inside the outposts are barracks (estimated size of the garrison 50 Hiking and horse 30 soldiers), a stable, a gun, a dining room and of course our «White house of Soviets». Now, as before, the house of Soviets is designed for meetings of allies and discuss a range of issues. «White castle» is located on one plate size 32x32, and consists of two levels: the first level is literally carved from the rock and has one small entrance guarded by the most experienced and loyal wars. The second level was built of white stone and of wood (construction used oak) Also on the first level there is an emergency exit, in case of a sudden attack of the enemy. During the second of two decades of war between the Lions and Dragons through this output king Iser escaped during the siege of Outpost Dragon wars and connecting with the troops struck on the left flank of the invaders, crumpled it and 'd routed them, clearing the siege of the intersection of three roads, and capturing a lot of food and weapons. MOC: Hunting in the Loch

Here's one of my most recent MOCs, Hunting in the Loch: The man grasped his spear tightly. Squinting his eyes, he peered carefully into the dark, swirling water. Something dark seemed to be moving about under the water…or was that just a reflected raincloud? A bright flash of lightning broke through the cloudy sky, and the rain began to beat even more heavily on the hunter’s head. Suddenly the water in front of him exploded into the air, and a black, writhing shape burst out. The man never saw its head; by the time the immediate shock had passed all that was visible was its scaly back, capped with large, menacing spikes. Shaking rain out of his eyes, the man prepared to throw his spear. Soli Deo Gloria! Thanks for viewing! :)

    Corvus Stronghold

Dark times were coming. Tolswick was being destroyed by the remaining members of The Hand of Corruption. Corvus Stronghold was their last defence. The MOC is on two 16x16 baseplates, which makes it my biggest MOC yet. This is the first baseplate, the pathway to the fortress. This is the stronghold itself. It's quite small, but so are most of my MOC's. The right side of the stronghold is in repair after the most recent attack. The stronghold is quite old, so vines are growing up the side. The small house bears the Avalonian dragon emblem. Thanks for looking, C&C welcome.

    Manaor Castle

Inspired by castles built by Karrde, 2 Much Caffeine, LL, vdubguy67, and de Gothia. There used to be a lot of castles built on only a 32x32 baseplate, but I haven't seen many lately. I also haven't seen many castles with hinged walls/opening interiors and this was built with those two main goals in mind. The castle lifts off of the baseplate then can hinge open. All the doors/trapdoors work and every building has a full interior. Some of the rooms include: a storage room, an armory, a dining room, a chapel, and a bedroom. This is my favorite castle yet. Manaor Castle is the Home of Drottin Manaor (my candidate for Prime Minister) and protects the city of Sveithaven which Drottin rules: Lifted off of the baseplate: Lots more detail pics here: link All C&C appreciated
