  1. Hi, Unpopular opinion topic here: As a trained /4 years in/ AFOL/Technic-only user/moc-er/hobby-builder/whatever I've seen all the stuff we can improve and add and mod to a base set from technic so far. I've seen all the criticism of the official designers and end products, added some of mine or did profit by improving upon it. HOWEVER 1) How often do you pick up a Technic set with child's eyes? 2) How often do you see the expressions of non-afol people around you when they see a "dumb"/for you/ set and its features? 3) How often do you appreciate the mechanisms that the designers put into a model without the critical eye and "I can make it better" mentality? 4) How often do you just PLAY with a set? The way it was supposed to - like crashing pullbacks or driving around on the floor with the HoG steering. 5) How often lately do you prefer the LOOKS and not the machinery inside? /911 RSR, new Ferrari.../ The reason I'm asking is my experience set 42076 which is both horrible and lovely. Had a guest at home who was amazed by all the stuff it does while looking the way it looks. Genuine happy feels. And childlike grins and joy. As a machine I love its weirdness. It turns very weirdly and in the same time pretty accurate for a boat. I just want to probe for opinion for some of my wandering thoughts as I've began to develop AFOL calluses on my mind. I still enjoy 2AM driving my 42065 or 9398 just for the fun of RC driving. Just as my inner 6 year old self always wanted. Writing this I currently have 3 MOCs WIP and some of them steal ideas and mechanics from official sets :D
  2. I notice there is less resistance against using non-Lego solutions in this board than in the past. In a recent topic about pulleys for a crane, http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/150151-heavy-lift-crane-boom-pulley-design-will-pay-for-ip/, at least three different people suggest modding pulleys by changing the axle hole, while the same problem can be easily solved by putting the wheels on a bar instead of an axle. In a recent topic about turntables, http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/149965-alternative-turntables/, the first suggestions are to use AFOL custom part designs. This is suggested before anyone even thinks about how this can be done in Lego. In http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/148319-little-8865-my-tribute-to-40-years-of-technic, someone built a miniature verson of 8865 using only the springs from the shock absorber parts and the first 20 replies made no mention of that specific point. (What speaks in favor of the builder though, is that he provided an alternative solution using rubber bands.) I thought this was a forum about Lego, where people use Lego pieces to solve problems, without "cheating". I remembered the days where if you used a modified piece your MOC wasn't even considered a Lego model by many people. Nowadays, there's hardly mention on this and it sometimes feels that I'm the only person here that still cares, that can't appreciate a model if the builder copped out somewhere. My rule still is, If you can't do it in Lego, then you can't do it. And a model that doesn't do it is better to me than a model that does it by cheating. After all, if you're allowing A, then why not allow B, and then C, all the way to Z and if that happens, what are we even doing? I understand 3D printing has something to do with it, but isn't the whole sport that you have a limited set of pieces that you'll have to do with, and that that means that some things can't be done? Isn't that the whole idea? I mean, if everything can be done, where's the achievement in doing it? Having done my bit of a rant, I am curious to see how others are seeing this. Have others also noticed a trend over the years? What are your opinions on it? What are your opinions on purism vs. using non-Lego solutions? Do you use non-Lego, and if so, why? What's OK to you and what's not, and why? Custom string? Custom stickers/prints? Custom tyres? Custom coloring? Custom springs? Can you define a limit that makes clear what's within and what's outside? If it's not clear, how do you handle the gray area? If you're an extensive user of non-Lego solutions, why are you into Lego instead of scale modeling in general? What are your opinions about all this?
  3. Flaperons are a combination of flaps and ailerons, found on various airplanes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaperon Thanks to @MinusAndy and @Jeroen Ottens for sparking this topic. I've had the following idea for ages, but it can use some perfection. (I think I've borrowed this idea somewhere) Red - Input for flaps Yellow + Turntable - Input for ailerons Combined - Flaperons Please post your ideas, suggestions, or questions in this topic.
  4. Thanks to a instagram account called "@mini_legogo" I know that lego will release more 2 (or even more) police sets . -The first set is 60273 and is probably called "Heavy Driller Pursuit" because includes a Police car and a Small Red Driller, this set have two exclusive minifigures from Lego City Adventures tv show. Sam Grizzled and Hacksaw Hank, Sam Grizzled now have a new suit that sounds strange. A new police subtheme !? -And the other set is 60274 and had an helicopter, a raft and a dockside lighthouse, but this set don't include new exclusive minifigures but includes Rooky Partnur and Vito. This set can be called "raft arrest". I don't know the release date, probably august like the avengers sets. Here is a vídeo that shows the new summer Police sets.
  5. Greetings, adventurers! As you have probably seen, the next Creator Expert set, 10273 Haunted House, was announced this morning and it features many references to Adventurers and other themes as it is designed to be a fairground ride that is modeled after the manor of the notorious villain Samuel Von Barron. There is a large haunted portrait of the baron, a sign saying "Manor Von Barron" and several stolen artifacts from the Egypt and Orient Expedition subthemes. So my question is: is this canon to the Adventurers theme? If so, that opens up a lot of questions. We don't know how accurately the fairground operators recreated Sam's manor, but assuming it is accurate, we can gleam a lot of information from it. First, let's talk about the name. Baron Von Barron's infamous name change to Sam Sinister has been confusing Lego fans to this day, and TLG is muddying the waters even more here by calling him Samuel Von Barron which seems to be a combination of the two. Is this his real full name and was "Sinister" just a nickname? The portrait has a play feature that causes Pharaoh Hotep to appear behind the baron. This suggests that the baron was cursed by the pharaoh, possibly for stealing all of these treasures. Did the baron die from this curse? On the other side of the manor, there is "strange altar" with skull candles, a chalice, and a vassal with some dark red contents. There is also a skeleton with a top hat just like the one that both Sam and Slyboots (a.k.a. the other Sam Sinister) used to wear hanging from chains from the ceiling. This has some surprisingly dark implications. Did Sam used to practice some kind of blood rituals up here? Is the skeleton meant to be him or Slyboots or someone else? Were the rituals meant to free him of the curse? There is also a red snake hiding under the table which according to a German Adventurers audio drama is venomous and killed the first people who raided Pharaoh Hotep's tomb as part of his curse, so it would make sense that Baron von Barron would suffer the same fate. There is a coat of arms over the manor that references Fright Knights, specifically set 6007 Bat Lord. Does this mean that Sam is a descendant of Basil the Bat Lord?! As a fan of both Adventurers and Fright Knights, I am absolutely fine with accepting that as canon! There is also one of Ogel's orb bombs from Alpha Team in the attic along with a rusting Junkbot. Does the baron have some kind of connection to Ogel? There might be even more interesting references that I missed, but this gives us a lot to think about. So what do you think? Do all these things mean what I think they mean? Or am I just overthinking some fun easter eggs in a silly haunted house set? It's probably the latter, but either way, discuss!
  6. Thought I'd make a forum about a topic like this. Note: there is no confirmation of characters here. These are just ideas. This is also not another "Ideas for sets" forum. This forum is for ideas for new LCA characters only. So without further a do, spam the forum with your character ideas.

    MOC City Bus Terminal

This is my MOC Bus Terminal building. I didn't really care for the half-butt bus terminal we got in 2017. Here is how I would've done it. Play-ability is still a factor. The bus terminal includes a seating area, clock tower and an office for the terminal manager to hang. I actually plan to push the baseplate out a little so there shall be enough room between the bus and the building. Part of the inspiration came from Classic Town set number 379-1 titled Bus Station. This MOC is a modern day CITYfied version of the sets.
  9. Since BrickHeadz are really hitting it off this year and with the release of Lego’s fourth cinematic movie next year, you can almost guarantee another year of BrickHeadz. Which characters are you expecting from TLM2 theme? What about other themes? Potentially Overwatch BrickHeadz?...
  10. Being a rather slow subforum here on Eurobricks, I thought I'd start this discussion to help liven it up, since many here I'm sure have a personal favorite as far as Brickfilmers go. If not anyone in particular, perhaps just a specific Brickfilm. There are many great Brickfilms out there, but still, my all time favorite will still be Fancy Pants's Force Unleashed Brickfilm. After seven years now, it still such a mindblowing piece of work! Now an overall great Brickfilmer who's work I thoroughly enjoy is Brotherhood Workshop, who is not only a great Brickfilmer, but a hilarious one at that! He does not resort to over the top violence or profanity, but just good old-fashioned, fast pased slapstick humor. Here are two personal favorites of mine, one done for HISHE, which both great!
  11. Good day! Sometimes I make MOCs that don't deserve a topic, or simply have WIP concepts that I don't publish . This will serve as a place where I post my WIP creations that may end being a MOC , and small sized MOCs which are too simple to post a video or create a topic.

  13. Personally, I think a LEGO Superman movie would be good. It could be like a parody of Superman's origin, where it tries shoe-horning in as much stuff as possible like Supergirl, Doomsday, Luthor, Brainiac, Zod, obscure Silver Age baddies, etc.

  19. I haven't been very active here as of lately, I've been working on a fairly large project. But I got to wondering, what are some of your signature quirks when you build? Me personally, I hate the look of bushes; just can't stand them for some reason. I replace as many of them as I can with two half bushes; I know it's not efficient but IMO it looks a lot better What about you guys?
  20. I wanted to reach out and ask people's opinion on the current format of the CMF Series. I also created this to discuss the series in a different way. I believed talking about the current rota in the other CMF threads would derail the threads. So, I must ask what is your opinion?
  21. I am working on my next MOC ideas and after looking at the new roller coaster set, I am toying with the idea of creating a mobile trailer hauled version that is even bigger than my T&H ride, although this time maybe not a one armed version, but more in line with a “built from parts hauled on a trailer” version. If you have ever seen the old “Wild Mouse” coaster ride you understand where I am coming from. This ride used slightly undersized cars and had 2 riders, one per car, with 2 cars per train. It was not very fast, it was more a “twist your head off” ride that used tight 180 turns without banking as the thrill and it makes it feel like the track is ending just as you take the turn. The track sections and size of the cars make the new roller coaster elements perfect for a Wild Mouse ride scaled to Technic figures. Anyone think I am crazy?
  22. Invitations were mailed posthaste to several members of the Eurobricks community. Only a few would answer the call to travel to the Mad Monster Mansion for Kintobor's first annual Costume Party. Food and music were promised, as was a good time for all who attended, so long as you were in costume. However, Mad Monster Mansion was no ordinary place: rumours abound of ghosts and ghouls haunting the decrypted manor, as well as a fortune in gold. Needless to say, tonight would be most interesting... -Players- Bride of Dracula, costumed by Lady K Dr. Frankenstein, costumed by Tariq j Dracula, costumed by Rider Raider Frankenstein's Rocker, costumed by LegoRacer1 Gorgonzola, costumed by fhomess Maws, costumed by mediumsnowman The Mutant Fly, costumed by Steamdemon The Mummy, costumed by Actor Builder The Swamp Creature, costumed by KotZ The Werewolf, costumed by LegoMonorailFan) Wicked Witch, costumed by Lord Duvors Zombie Bride, costumed by Khscarymovie4 Zombie Groom, costumed by Forresto Zombie Cheerleader, costumed by jluck --- Rules (These are 95% the same as the EB standard; deviations from the normal EB rules are struck-through) (Also, thanks Def. I'm stealing your rules.) 1. Each player will be given a character to play, who will be aligned with either the Town or the Scum. To win the game, the Town must kill off all the Scum, while the Scum needs to outnumber the Town. Third-party (neutral) characters have their own win conditions as outlined in their roles. 2. Each day you will be able to vote to lynch a player. Voting is mandatory. Voting should be done in the following format; Vote: Character (Player). Similarly, unvoting is to be done in the format; Unvote: Character (Player). No other format will be accepted. A majority vote is required to lynch a player. Failure to vote will incur a vote penalty the following game day. 3. A game day will last a maximum of 72 hours. You may not vote in the first 24 hours. The day will end when a majority vote has been reached after 72 hours. After the day has been concluded, a night stage will commence, which will last 48 hours. Night actions must be sent to the host in the first 20 hours of the night stage. 3.5. Players may not target the same player two nights in a row, and may not target themselves. 4. The alignment of lynched players, as well as those that died during the night, will be revealed at the beginning of the next day. 5. You may not quote or pretend to quote anything sent to or from you in PM with the game host, or in PM with any other players. This includes all the details of your character and role, as well as any night action results. Role claims and reporting of night action results are acceptable, but in your own words only. Do not attempt to use the structure of your role PM to your advantage. 6. Do not play the game outside the thread. Similarly, do not post out of character inside the thread. Game tactics and roles may only be discussed in the game thread or via PM with other players. Private discussion is done at your own risk and should be treated as part of the game. 7. If you are dead, you may not post in thread or discuss the game with any of the players. Any information you had becomes void, and may not be passed on. 8. You may not edit your posts. 9. You must post in every day thread. 10. If you encounter a problem or have a question, please contact the host via PM 11. Violation of the above rules will result in a 5 vote penalty vote penalty per every 4 living players against you, and death on your second offence. --- Ugh, apparently I managed to get this thing to go up earlier than anticipated... Please ensure that you've confirmed your involvement in the game in this thread by posting here. You've got 48 hours to do so. Also, just so we're all clear: this is a game of Mafia with images done in Lego. The essence of play is Mafia. Roleplaying is allowed, but ultimately this is a game of Mafia. I'll lend a helping hand as we progress through the game, so don't worry if you're a little nervous. Normally there's more new players, but I'll have some advice to help you along the way for those who are playing their first Mafia School. As my first piece of advice, never reveal your role in the Confirmation thread. You're looking to get picked off easily. Just relax and interact with your fellow players before the game begins. Also, please put your character icon either in your signature or as your icon until you are eliminated from the game or the game is over. It'll help players recognize you, and helps add to the atmosphere of the game! PMs are heading out now!
  23. I'm trying to work out the "proper" length scale for my various 6-wide trucks and trailers to make sure they look realistically proportioned, and after talking to my dad (who is a retired long-haul trucker) and looking at the actual regs for truck myself, it turns out that European trucks are actually built from modules to make it easier to satisfy all the rules - and these rules are built around 80 x 120 cm cargo pallets, that will fit either two or three in width inside the cargo box. My immediate thought was that if you then go by exterior scale only, and assume the real trucks have negligible thickness of the walls, you can basically use 2 x 3 tiles to represent the cargo pallets, and determine the length in studs fairly simply by counting the number of pallets that fits. In Europe, the standard modules are 7.2 meters (for 18 pallets), which translates to 6 x 18 studs; and 13.6 meters (for 33 pallets), which translates to 33 studs. The entire vehicle including all trailers is normally limited to 25.25 meters, which is 63.125 studs. Basically, it has to fit on two 32 x 32 baseplates, and it's road legal in the EU. In Canada, they allow trailers up to 16.2 meters, which is 40.5 studs - I'd call it 40, easier to work with as that's two 6 x 16 and one 6 x 8 plate, and a 23 meter total vehicle length restriction (57.5 studs). The US regs are confusing, because all the ones I can find are for *minimum* lengths. A single trailer has a federal minimum length of 48 feet, which translates to 36 studs; some states have old trailers that conform to longer form factors (up to 59 feet, which would be 40 studs!) They also have a minimum length of 28 feet (21 studs) per trailer in a multi-trailer rig. And of course there are the exceptions, for when your cargo doesn't fit in neat packages. All of this assumes that you're comfortable with minifig-scale fudging, by the way - once you put siding on your trailer there's no way to actually stick that many 2 x 3 tiles in there... (Now, to rebuild my truck MOCs to fit the correct lengths...)
