  1. LEGO is organizing an event in many cities in Norway at this time. This has been a yearly event around in the country. And the Norwegian LUG Brikkelauget has been invited to have a exhibition under the event. Here is some pictures I have taken from our small layout in my town Tromsø where the event is held at NordNorsk Vitensenter. MOC: Fire Fighting Train

Presenting my Fire Fighting Train MOC. Fire fighting train is perfect for battling railway fires including in tunnels. It is equiped with dual high power nozzles, water and foam car, oxygen tanks, happy fire fighting crew. It is playable for ages 5 and up. Fire Fighting Train by dr_spock_888, on Flickr The equipment car has hose reel and cabinets for storage of oxygen tanks, masks, fire extinguishers, tools, etc. It is Power Function ready with space for IR Receiver and Battery Box. Battery box slots perfectly in between the storage cabinets. It is more capable than a CITY fire truck modified for rail service since the truck can't pull a passenger train out of a burning tunnel. Fire Engine MOD by dr_spock_888, on Flickr Don't forget to duck when going into tunnels. It doesn't look safe riding up there.

    crazy-for-steampunk's MOCs: Railmotor

I thought I'd show off a model here, thought it'd be a nice way to introduce myself too. I'm a Lego fan who loves Legos, Doctor Who, and steampunk. I've been building models in Lego Digital Designer for sometime now, and thought I'd start off with a steampunk-styled railmotor. I've taken some inspiration from a GWR Railmotor, a tramway car, etc, combined them into a steampunk-esque fashion, and combined them together into a steampunk-like railmotor. First up, here's a picture of the front bogey, which powers the railmotor. I'm not very experienced with making complicated valve gear, so I decided to go with a basic 0-4-0 wheel configuration and just some basic siderods. Here, we get a nice look at the inside of the undercarriage, showing the inside motion valve gear which powers the wheelset. I think it looks rather nice myself. Next, we have the boiler inside of the railmotor, located in the cab where the crew work. The boiler design is based off of a steampunk-inspired moc in the link here: http://gwenix.org/~adams/lego/balloon/index.html If copying or getting inspiration from other MOCs is against the forums rules, then I apologize, I'll have another look at the rules. Here is the right side of the boiler, which slightly differs from it's original prototype, having additional gears on the side as well as a larger firebox door. I originally wasn't planning on adding the gears, however I decided to add them anyways, just to give the design a more steampunk-inspired feel to it. Feel free to leave any feedback down below as well as any suggestions. I am also glad to accept any assistance with any of my models.
  4. So I hope this is not an entry that anybody else took before I do now! If so please don't blame me too much, but I couldn't find any entry in this forum concerning this topic! So what I wanna do here is the following: As a beginner it is very hard to start a collection! Many questions have to be answered! This topic should help anyone who is interested in building his own creation out of LEGO and needs some advice which bricks and wich colors of bricks he should own before getting started. From my point of view it is important to have a wide range of different bricks in different colors before starting to build his/ her MOC. Because otherwise you won't be able to be as creative as possible. After reading the last sentence, everyone should shout out: You are silly! That's a lot of money to spend before I can get started! Exactly that's what this entry tries to figure out: Which parts do I need to get started as soon as possible! And here I need your help! Please post in this thread which parts you think someone at least needs to get started building a castle for example. Or if you are interested in the space theme and/ or already built something - then you have the experience others do not have, and here is the place where you can share! What is needed: First you should post what can be built out of the bricks you post. e.g.: Architecture, Castle, Forest, ... Second, give a short overview which colors you needed to build your creation. e.g.: for a castle you need dark bluish gray, light bluish gray, black, reddish brown, ... Third, are there any kinds of bricks that been needed especially to build a great MOC. e.g.: for a castle you surely need these bricks: 98283.jpg and/ or 60808.jpg From my point of view the quantity of parts is not needed - everyone should make his own decision how many of a kind he/ she want to own. Finally I will sum up all your posts in this post, so everyone has a quick overview what the community came up with! I give you an example: To build a realistic Forest you need the following: Colors: Plenty of dark green, bright green, green, olive green, black, reddish brown, dark reddish brown Kinds of bricks: These parts you should not miss in your collection: 2417.jpg, 2423.jpg, 30093.gif, 55236.gif If there are any other colors or bricks you use when creating a realistic forest please post it and I will add them in my post. So I am looking forward to read your suggestions and of course if this topic make sense! I will accept any feedback from you! If you say, no we do not need this stuff or you know where I can find something similar in the www please post it!

    Small Space Layout Ideas?

Hey Guy I know I have been asking a lot of questions (you guys have good ideas) but I was wondering I do not have a lot of room for a layout right now. I was wondering If anyone has any simple ideas to make every inch count right now I have a sq. of track, and about a 40" by 40" space to work with. All ideas are welcome! Thanks SO much -RailCo

    Lego Train Sellers?

Hey Guys I am wondering if anyone knows a good shop (Online) that sells lego trains (Mostly 9v and PF) for a good price other than Bricklink and a Lucky eBay find? Thanks so much -RailCo
  8. Hey Guys I found This MOC Someone Made under name of "camlegofun" who made a great simple Lighted signal! I was unable to get the picture but you can see his/her work at LEGOIdeas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/71391 Maybe we can make this become a reality? Just thought it would be good to share it, Rail Co Update: He has updated the page explaining it better and even a V2 design.
  9. Hey Guys! First of all I am BACK! Back on track though, Does anyone have any ideas for a train Uncoupler and or a lighted signal that are all automatic/motorized. It would be prefably mostly out of lego and using simple electronics if not PF! Thanks Guys, Rail Co
  10. Hey Guys! I found this cool MOC of a Lighted train signal by "camlegofun"! I couldn't get the picture as it is on Lego ideas (link removed) As a Train Fan this is a Great Idea for a product! Come Check it out! Thanks for reading, RailCo

    MOC: Imperial Troop Train

Greetings. Our LUG was invited to Star Wars Days at the local LEGO Discovery Center. I built a Star Wars Imperial Troop Train for the event. It was inspired by amoured trains of the previous century. My MOC is armed with turbolasers and missiles and blasters. Cheers and greetings from USA

Greetings to all! I'm fairly new to this site and these forums, and only started commenting in earnest about 4 months or so ago, after a period of more than a year lurking. First off, Eurobricks is my "go-to" site for LEGO news and information - what a fantastic resource! I admire and appreciate all who take their time to post thoughts, instructions, solutions, creations, etc. It is all enormously inspiring. A couple of things about me... 1) I got out of my "Dark Ages" around the time of the birth of my daughter in 2009. My first exposure to nouveau-LEGO was the release of the Emerald Night, which I saw in the windows of my local LEGO store. That train just caught my eye, and I couldn't stop thinking about it, I couldn't get that damned thing out of my head. A gracious mother-in-law, who assumed I had gone temporarily insane with the prospect of being a first-time dad, bought it jointly with my wife for my Christmas gift. The Emerald Night has a solid hold on my #2 spot for "Best LEGO set ever" (#1 remains, and always will remain, the Black Seas Barracuda which I got for Christmas when I was 6). 2) I received the Black Seas Barracuda for Christmas in 1989. I got my Emerald Night in 2009, 20 years later. 3) In no particular order - my favorite themes are/have been: Town, Train, Pirates, Creator "Expert" (modulars) and the Collectible Minifigure series. 4) I've also made recent room for Alien Conquest (RIP), The LEGO Movie, and Friends for my daughter. 5) I am 30 yrs old and live in Portland, OR - USA. 6) In addition to LEGO, my hobbies include: cooking, illustration, all things comics and graphic novels, and movies. I'm a budding audiophile and woodworking enthusiast. A couple of things I love about the LEGO hobby: -It gives me time to bond with my kids. It's fun to share something we can all relate to and for different reasons/motives. -The quality of the higher-end sets just boggles my mind. -The increased color pallet over the past few years -It may seem odd to say so, but I really like the direction of graphics team - the minifigures have so much personality and quality of printing has just gotten better and better -Correlations to my own job. Substitute "plastic injected molds" for "sand-casted steel," and the companies I've worked for professionally are very similar to LEGO (down to the manufacturing processes, supply chains, etc.) In fact, we use LEGO Adult education products for some of our internal training courses. Things I don't like about the LEGO hobby and wish would change: -Stickers. Boo. -Poorer quality manufacturing from overseas sources -Designs that got pumped into market way too fast. I almost feel like LEGO is overheating a bit these days and almost needs to scale back number of themes or new products to market. Too many are half-baked (and don't give me the "target market" argument - a poorly-thought out set design is a poorly-thought out set design, be it geared to the 5-12 age group or the 12-16 age group) -Pricing - especially for 2014. -Recent changes to exclusives discount policies (booo!)

    Traction

Hi all, Currently im building a Lego City layout with PF trains. What i want is build a ramp for my trains, to get the trains to another level on the layout, which is around 13 bricks higher. There are some guides on ramps, but i don't have enough space for those layout, since then it will be longer then my actual table. When i did some test runs, i've noticed that my trains don't make it. The issue is not that they are not powerful enough, but they lose traction on the smooth plastic PF track, spin out and when stopped they roll down again. So what im interested in, is if someone has any ideas on how to add traction to the track (preferable without damaging the track). What is i thought of was: 1. use old 12v track, since its not smooth, but has compatibility issues. 2. Apply rubber to the track, but not sure how. 3. use sandpaper to make the track rougher, but damaging the track. Not sure if it will work Does anyone has any good ideas on this topic?

    LDraw rods are now available

As you likely know, I have been fabricating custom rods for lego steam locomotives. Now I have great news for the digitally inclined steam engine builders, I have just added LDraw files for most of the common custom rods listed in my store. Ronald 'Duq' Vallenduuk developed the LDraw part design and subparts for his own use (e.g., here) based on the physical rods. He has graciously allowed me to share these files. I've merely expanded his template to use my own naming scheme and include many of the rod designs I've fabricated. You can find examples of the physical rods here and the LDraw files here. I'm planning on adding less common rods soon and then eventually the valve gear bars. Make beautiful virtual models and be sure to visit Duq's Flickr page or Bricklink store.
  17. My PRR B1 has reproduced itself into a PRR Class BB1. When PRR bought the first batch of the units, they came in BB1 configuration. The units were semi-permanently joined together. Only later on in life did PRR separated them into single B1 units and ordered further units as B1. PRR Class BB1 by dr_spock_888, on Flickr As a BB1 model, there is room to add Power Functions. An XL-motor can replace the M-motor if more power is needed. I had to add tires to the drive wheels to give it more traction around curves. I find the 0-6-0 wheel configration fascinating in these electrics. YouTube video: More pics on my BrickShelf: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=539207

    Question About Transfer

Recently, my motorized Cargo Train Deluxe engine died, so I was looking for help/ideas on how to transfer the main body to a new motorized chassis and how much it would cost...
  19. Hey guys, I have a question. I'd like to get into a lego train set for my son and I. He is young now (almost 3) but we enjoy playing with the city sets. Cars, buildings, etc. I know nothing about trains and not sure what the "best buy" is right now. I see that Amazon has this one on sale for 99 dollars http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003A2JCQ8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003A2JCQ8&linkCode=as2&tag=creativetoys04-20 but not sure if that's a good first set or not. Any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appricated. Thanks!
  20. We all go through dark ages, and another is fast approaching and I have decided to considerably downsize my collection of models. Before listing them all on Ebay I wanted to give Eurobrick Members / LUG'S the opportunity to acquire them as they would make a sizable diorama for someone willing to have the space. In all cases please assume the models are 98% complete, i.e. there may be occasional part changes but these should not effect the appearance of the model. Not all mini-figs are present, and assume no instructions. Where possible I link to photos for your viewing pleasure. Please be aware that shipping from Switzerland is not cheap. There is an online price calculator from Swiss Post. There is an automatic limit of 2cm package thickness which is generally not possible to keep for any model. E.g. a 12V wheel in padded envelope is already larger than 2cm. Consequently most postage to Western Europe will be over 15 CHF. Maxi-Brief parcels have to have a weight under 2kg and Length + Width + Height under 90cm, with no single dimension of more than 60cm. This can be achieved for small models, otherwise it will via Small Packet Post. Some recent examples: 3.5kg parcel to Belgium: 45 CHF: Incuded Tracking and Insurance 4 kg parcel to Holland: 49 CHF: Included Tracking and Insurance 500g parcel to UK: 15.50 CHF: No tracking, no insurance For addresses in Switzerland it costs between 9-15 CHF depending upon weight, or we can arrange a pickup from Zurich-Oberland. For addresses in Germany I can be persuaded to take the train to Konstanz and post the parcel using DHL prices is then about 6-10 Euro (up to 10kg). The prices are based upon average selling from bricklink in the past 6 months, and ebay (tends to be cheaper). I am always open to sensible offers, or multiple set discounts. However we both know the realistic prices so please, nothing silly. This list will appear in subsequent posts so that I can easily edit the items. However as a flavour here are the harbour and cargo sets

    Modular 12v & 9v Layout

After a break from building and the various forums, I'm back up to speed and building again. (It's good to see the standard of building/posts on here is as good as ever btw.) My latest project has been modular layout with trains on 2 levels and using both 9v and 12v track. If you're on brick.ie or Brickish you may have seen it, the image gallery is here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=528346 And video of it in action is here: It's in 4 sections, each 5 x 3 baseplates (32x32 studs) in size with all the wiring for the 12v points and signals contained in the sections the points etc are on. This image shows the 12v switches built into the viaduct at the back of the layout, I ran a wire from each set of switches to a 12v power unit, each loop had it's own controller. In total 6 trains could run at any given moment. Andy Sorry, posted this in the wrong forum, Admin please remove, I'll repost in Train Tech.

    Goofy through-the-wall idea?

Hi! (Long time lurker, first time poster.) I'm mostly a modulars fan, although I have a couple of trains I'd really like to get on display, too. (Love that Emerald Night!) I'd really like to get my modulars on display, with a train running around them. But I don't have room for a big train table. I've got a big stretch of uninterrupted wall that I'm thinking about running a loop of train track through. So there'd be a long shelf on both sides of the wall, with a hole in the wall on both ends so that the train could loop through the two rooms. (Have I mentioned that my husband is very tolerant of this Lego stuff? He is.) Since it's 3 baseplates to turn a train, I'd be looking at a total depth of three baseplates, although about half of one of them would be through the walls. So I could do one baseplate (32 studs) deep on one side and 1 1/2 baseplates (48 studs) on the other side, or it could be about 40 studs on each side. The question is: is that deep enough to actually do anything, keeping in mind that I want to do modular buildings as part of it? The modular buildings are of course a 32 studs as built, but that includes about 8-10 studs in the back that I could lose (with some rebuilding), so maybe 24 studs needed for the modulars. But it seems like I'd need to put in a road for it to look right, and THEN the track. Seems like I'm short on studs, even if I make one side deeper than the other and only put the modular buildings on the deep side. Suggestions? Has anyone done something like this? I've looked at lots of gorgeous train layouts, but haven't quite seen anyone do anything quite like this. Thanks!
