    Space Skull Commando (I'm back)

I've been working on this redesign for a while, this theme for years: Wait till you see how it opens! There are cannons under the cheeks ....you cant see them here :( Or Here Hrmmm... I did want them somewhat hidden, but when you see them, they really do look awesome tucked in there! I amazed I made it work so cleanly here... watch this: Two Doors, he can egress from above or to the back! That's his Seat! Next the controls! Bonus the LDD file: http://www.brickshel...an_commando.lxf And a really nice LDD Scene: (you can see the cannons here) http://www.brickshel...ando_scene1.png Thanks for checking it out, I'm kind of pleased with how it came out :D

    6828 Twin-Winged Spoiler Review

The Twin-Winged Spoiler is a Futuron set released in 1988 that contains 57 pieces. It cost around £5 back then, but you can get it for £2 now. I couldn't find a review on it so I thought I'd make one. Now for the review! I don't own the box, so we'll start with instructions. I just love that LEGOLAND banner across the top; it makes it feel so retro. This is the sole spaceman in the set. He himself costs around £2, so it's nice to get him in this small set. Not much to say about the back except that the blue and white mix looks really cool. He also has a white gun, but I think back then it was supposed to be a torch. On to the build! This is step 4, and you can already see the start of the wings. Step 11, and all you need to do is add wings. Looking good so far. And here it is completed! Those parts at the bottom of the legs are 4169 Train signal stands, and this is the only set they come in white. Here it is in it's flying mode. But the review isn't over yet... This is just showing the great strength of the legs. And now... Ratings! Well actually not. I'll just say its a versatile set with a good figure at a good price, but it is one of the weaker futuron sets. Of course a weak futuron set is still a good set! What would you like me to review next: A Blacktron alienator A Blacktron ll Allied Avenger A Classic Space Gamma V Laser-craft

  4. "God Speed John Glenn" ... These infamous words heard around the world, spoken by fellow Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter, accompanied John Glenn's historic launch from NASA's Launch Complex 14 on February 20, 1962. Glenn became an instant celebrity and source of great pride as the first American to orbit the earth proving that America had caught-up with the Russians in the space race. This MOC shows Glenn's Mercury Atlas rocket just leaving the launchpad and features: - Atlas Rocket built using chromed panels to capture the gleaming stainless steel appearance of the prototype. - Compact, detailed pad and Launch Umbilical Tower of Launch Complex 14 - Rocket blast backlit using high-power LED and 4 layers of transparent bricks. - Scrolling green LED message board on front announces "God Speed John Glenn - February 20, 1962" reminiscent of Times Square marquee. Sci-Fi Alts [31001: Mini Skyflyer]

Haven't done anything sci-fi in a while, I need my fix! I'll try to post an alternate sci-fi build every day for this set, feel free to post your own! 1] A sleek model, could be a racer? Let's call it "The Glowbug" ========================= 2] Some kind of orbital glider ================ 3] Jedi starfighter? ========================= 4] This one is kinda ugly, maybe a communications ship? ===================== 5] Vic-viperish ship ========================== Now for some snow themed alts! 6] Big laser cannon on a snowy boulder field, note the red arrow showing a secret entrance lol ================================= 7] Here's a quad-walker strolling over icy terrain ======================== 8] A laboratory complex in the frozen mountains where they study "Dark Water" lol

Interesting Article on Lego Space Factions

Came across this article about the old Lego themes. Found it interesting as it appears to be written by a literature student who is not an AFOL. He is starting an analysis of the Lego space factions from a story telling perspective. I wanted to share as I though some other AFOLs out there might be interested, especially those of us who are a bit older and can remember the days as far back as Blacktron I and Futuron when the factions got kicked off. New to Eurobricks!

Hello to all! I am new to this absolutely wonderful community. I am a 26 year old guy from Nova Scotia, Canada. (where the @#%$ is that???). I have been collecting and building Lego since I can remember. I recently have gotten a lot more into it as a hobby, and I never knew how in depth the online community was!!! I can't believe the talent and imagination that is displayed through everyone's MOC's and contest entries, my girlfriend complains that I spend all my time building and surfing through these forums. She said either the Lego goes or she does, so I just helped her load her last bag of stuff in the cab. Hahaha My Lego setup isn't really in the position yet where I can build to my heart's content, a lot of it still needs to be sorted. So my favorite thing to do is to take one of my existing models, break it down, and rebuild something from scratch using only the pieces from that set. This is a Starfighter I made using only pieces from the 7140 X-wing from 1999. http://www.brickset....ail/?set=7140-1 I am still trying to figure out how to attach a bunch of pictures, so I'll just include a link to the folder on Brickshelf, hopefully by now it will be public! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=525115 Thanks for viewing! I'm looking forward to getting (more) obsessed with this amazing website and forum!
  9. I recently got my old childhood collection back. I unboxed it yesterday and took some photos to share, if anybody is interested. If you have any advice or comments, feel free to post here. I have yet to sift through pieces. Everything seems to be packed up into these Ziploc bags and sorted surprisingly well. I think my mother must have done this. I have to say, it's so strange because my memories of my Lego collection are different from what is actually here. I remember us having repurposed paint buckets for our toys and the Lego was just kind of jumbled up in there, but what I unboxed here... it almost seems to be sorted by set, or at least theme. Who sorted this? I don't want to ramble on too long and bore you all, though. Anyway on with the photos. Here is a shot of everything together as it came out of the bin. Don't squint too hard, because I have other better photos with things grouped. DSC_0044 by ZeyaV, on Flickr I must admit, I had feared the worst. I was expecting everything to be a hopeless jumble, scratched up, abused. But I think we were pretty tame kids and my mom made sure we took care of our things. Rarely would we leave toys out overnight, and it would all go back in the bucket for storage. Sure, there are a couple plates and things here and there that are snapped. But by and large, this is in pretty good condition. Of particular note are the instructions. I would have bet these were long gone! I'm going to have to go through this over time, but these instructions are in good shape. A couple of the ones from way back that we inherited from our cousins are a little torn, but still usable. Again, don't squint too much/long at this photo, but here are all the instructions together in one shot: DSC_0030 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here are the instructions laid out by theme. Pirates! My favorite theme, especially as an adult. DSC_0033 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And castle! Wow. There's quite a few large sets here. These were some really nice Christmas presents. I remember my big Christmas present at the bottom of my stack was almost always a big Lego set. Well one year it was an Erector set. DSC_0037 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Space! I'm fairly sure the classic space sets were my older cousin's, originally. I definitely remember the parts, such as the technic pieces that make a bendy thing and the brackets with side-facing studs, and the little rocket-like things that face down (usually used as missile cannons or something, hehe). The couple of Blacktron sets were mine though. DSC_0039 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here are the other instructions for what Brickset terms "Basic", "Legoland", a Town racer set, and a McDonald's promo thing. Also 3 advertisement inserts that probably came from some of these sets. DSC_0041 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And two random Technic sets. DSC_0032 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And last item for the paper goods, the Lego Idea book. Inside, I found a sticker sheet, and one pristine sail from a Castle set. I think I got this when I was getting on the older side, maybe 12 years old, and I don't think I used this book too much. Hardcore video game phase. Spoiled brat. :/ DSC_0010 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0011 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Anyone know if those stickers came with the book? Edit: L@go confirmed that these stickers are in fact from the idea book. Okay, on to the gratuitous shots of bricks and elements. Keep in mind I'm just sharing photos at this point for anyone interested. I also want to say, this is going to be a long project for me to get these all washed and parted together. I'm thinking that 2013 and into 2014 are going to be light on the Lego purchasing for me. First up, here are all the baseplates (except maybe some very small ones): DSC_0042 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Those are 48x48 light gray baseplates. Do those even get made anymore? They're huge! Also, I'm not sure what the broken plate is on the far right, but it's got to be older, probably from my cousins. I have a dim recollection of snapping it in two as a kid. Lessons learned. On to bags of mostly Pirate stuff: DSC_0013 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0014 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0015 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0016 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0017 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0018 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And now onto Castle, which probably makes up 1/3 of all the bricks. So much gray. DSC_0019 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0020 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0021 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0022 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0023 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0024 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0025 by ZeyaV, on Flickr This is some of that Blacktron and other space stuff: DSC_0027 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And onto some more miscellaneous bags. This is mostly that Basic theme stuff, and I'm hoping the classic space is mixed in there too. DSC_0026 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0027 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0028 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0029 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And that's all the photos I took. Like I said, I have my work cut out for me. My mom liked to use moth balls, and that stuff stinks pretty bad. It's all going to have to get washed. I know there's a thread here somewhere on how to clean Lego, which I'll read up on again. I plan to wash everything (gonna have to be a dishwasher or clothes washer), and then try and put together every set. I figure some of the really old ones like the Sea Plane and Classic Space sets might be lacking some parts, for which I might turn to Bricklink if it's not too painful. I might also try my hand at writing some reviews for these sets, if that would be welcome. But overall, I'm pretty excited. It's going to be a lot of work, but it should be fun. So what do you guys think? Please share any advice or thoughts.

    MSFC: High Orbit

High Orbit: High above Earth in orbit, a small service module rendezvous with a cargo freighter, just returned from asteroid mining space. The crew aboard the freighter are more than happy to switch places with the lads aboard the SM. They've been dreaming of hot meals, fresh water, and a real shower for what seems like ages. Those aboard the SM are nervous, but eager to earn the hefty paychecks deep space mining has to offer. Whew! Heard about this contest a few days ago, and inspired by Kerbal Space Program, I knocked this together in an afternoon. I wish my parts were a bit more robust to allow for a rounder Earth, but overall I'm pleased with the end result. Any feedback is welcome!

    Review: 886 Space Buggy

My review today is on the Classic Space 886 Space Buggy. It was one of my first classic space sets, but does it meet the expectations of classic space or not? Time to find out! Theme: Space Year released: 1979 Pieces: 20 Mini-figures: 1 Price: On Bricklink for £2.52 upwards (Image from Bricklink) I don't have the box and I can't find the instructions so we'll skip ahead. The parts: Primarily grey parts, as with many early space sets, the only exceptions being the mini-figure and a translucent green round piece. The parts themselves are hardly interesting, except the figure. Moving on... The Mini-Figure The mini-figure in this set is a classic white spaceman. The white spaceman comes in most classic space sets, so he's not rare. Still, he's a charming chap, with his broad smile. As you can see here, his logo is starting to fade, but he doesn't mind. The back of the mini-figure. There was no back printing back when this figure came out, but he does get a standard white oxygen tank. The Buggy: The finished set. It's quite simple, but I think its the simplicity I like about it. It gives off a retro feel that I simply love! View from the front. As you can see, the driver gets an extra air-tank for when his runs out. You can also notice how thin the set is. The back. Here you can see his gun and the antenna of the buggy. Not much else to say. Ratings: Price: £2.50 is a lot for 20 common pieces, but old sets go for ridiculous prices these days, so I'd say this is fairly priced. 8/10 Build: You don't really get much of a build with only 20 pieces, but it's very enjoyable for how little has to be done. 9/10 Mini-figure: Although the minifig is very common, I just absolutely LOVE this fig. 10/10 Finished set: This set isn't very big, but I like it. And I think its essential for a space colony to go out on it and do tests. 9/10 Overall: 36/40. This set is amazing and pretty much perfect. Every space fan should get it!

    NCS Infiltration viper!

Introducing my latest MOC: The NCS Infiltration Viper! This was built as my contribution to Vic Viper Novvember. Originally Commander Grayson of the NCS Star fleet's personal transport, the Infiltration Viper was built when agile space combat ships were needed. It's a favored design by many federation fighter pilots, although it's a very rare opportunity to be able to drive one of these as very few were ever produced. only about 6 are currently scattered around the stars. Well, I have officially created one Neo classic space ship in each of the three color schemes! I call this a success :-) My flickr! You can find my blog at spacebricks.blogspot.com! -Jasbury!

Called the "The Flea" because it's not very big but it's super tough and super annoying lol I imagine they use these to fly into larger ships to destroy specific targets, like the fuel cells, hangars, etc. Also, sorry for the corny topic title :P -Fits minifigure -2 additional directional thrusters in rear for even sharper maneuvers -Adjustable fins -Adjustable guns -Fully sealed cockpit -Snazzy orange dome for extra pizzazz Bunch of angles

    SB-1 & SB-3

Well, as this is my first creation on here, please bear with my probable mistakes. Anyway, I present first the SB-1 Vengeance Fighter. This is a small, fast and heavily armed one man starfighter. It is a very sleek, surprisingly swooshable fighter. Some more pics, including front, side, and back, as well as the compartments open. Front Side Back Open Compartments The SB-1 is fine for small missions that don't need many troops or firepower. When you need pure firepower or troop movement, the SB-3 ThunderShock Gunship is your craft. Front Side Back And finally, the open compartments, with much more space than the fighter. Thanks for looking!

    Wierd Findings...

Whilst rooting through my lego box, I have found something very peculiar... Not one, but TWO Red Futuron minifigs with what appear to be molding errors on their backs. These must have gone unnoticed for many years, but it means they won't be able to survive long in space without oxygen packs. Anyway, they dont fit studs and I have no Idea how they appeared. Can any of you guys shed some light on this mystery?
