    Titanic’s Maiden Voyage

A project by Courleciel, Papacharly and Ssorg We’d like to present you our new project based on the huge RMS Titanic built by Ssorg in 2012 (project has just reached the 10k supporters on Lego Ideas!). Dock, tugs and iceberg have been built by me in LDD, then transfered in LDraw. We optimized the model by adding all the portholes on the hull (not really an easy deal, but it was worthwhile!), the lights on the masts, the flag and the letterings (bow and stern). All renders have been made by Papacharly. Click here for high resolution images. First post will be edited with a new render each day up to April 15th. So don’t forget to come back there to take a look on other amazing renders ! We hope you will enjoy our work. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday 10th April 1912 : Early morning, Titanic was docked. Passengers had not embark yet. Titanic_Southampton by papacharly24, on Flickr Inspired by this painting Titanic_Southampton_BW by papacharly24, on Flickr Four hours after leaving Southampton the ship arrived at Cherbourg (France) to pick up new passengers. Titanic_Bow by papacharly24, on Flickr Thursday 11th April 1912 : Titanic was going to reach Queenstown (now Cobh, South Ireland) and tenders brang some passengers aboard. At early afternoon, Titanic departed on her westward journey across the Atlantic. Titanic_Stern by papacharly24, on Flickr Friday 12th April 1912 : The ship steamed at full speed in the direction of New-York. Titanic_Bow_Side by papacharly24, on Flickr Saturday 13th April 1912 : Titanic sailed through calm waters. The temperature was getting colder as the ship came more and more closer to the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. Titanic_Sunset by papacharly24, on Flickr Sunday 14th April 1912 : Weather is clear, calm and very cold by this evening. Despite a serie of messages from other ships (such as SS Californian) warning of drifting ice, the ship struck an iceberg on starboard and the impact produced a huge opening in the hull. Titanic_Iceberg by papacharly24, on Flickr Monday 15th April 1912 : Water was pouring into the lowest levels of the ship. The first lifeboats were lowered into the freezing water. At 02 :20, Titanic disappeared from view. Titanic_Sinking by papacharly24, on Flickr

    The Bricksperience

I created a little game called "The Bricksperience". In this casual game you can build sets virtually from the point of view of a minifig, earn Bricksperience points and spend them on new features. It uses LDR files to arrange the bricks and calculate the steps. Later on the game will have a challenge and you build against the time to earn different amounts of money which you need to unlock the sets and advance in the LEGO timeline. Since it's a game, low poly models with simple textures are required to keep the performance steady. Therefore I have to recreate each brick individually. That means you can only use the bricks that are available in the game in custom models. To see which bricks are available there are two options in the options menu to export an LDD palette as well as an LDR file (more reliable) with all the parts. Currently there are only four sets from 1980 - 1982 and 60 parts but there will be way more. I spent the most of the time creating the foundation for this game and now it's time to fill it with content. DOWNLOAD Known issues: - The menus are ugly - Some menu buttons have no sound effects - Only windowed mode - Requires good hardware Please give it a try and let me know what you think! Thank you! 3. I made a similar post earlier today in the LDD/LDraw forum, and got some good responses, but am afraid I am missing the most important input from Technic builders. I have not used software in the past, and am wondering if I am missing an important part of building. I think I can add to my builds if I attempt using software, and therefore I would like to get others opinions in what they like best. I don't really work alot in anything else but Technic.... so, other people out there, what are your preferences? I gather that LDD and LDraw are the most commonly used, but I know there is MCAD and others. What are people's preferences?
  4. I just received the following announcement from LDraw.org: Not mentioned in the announcement but worth mentioning: some non-Lego parts are already uploaded to the LDraw Parts Tracker awaiting confirmation to be included in the official library. You can also read the announcement at LDraw.org.
  5. Hello All, First time poster to this specific area, longtime poster to the Technic genre..... Forgive me if there is already a post that answers my question, but I could not find one. I have never created anything in Lego with software. Always preferred to just work with the tangible blocks. However, now wondering if I am missing something and that Ldraw or LDD can help add something to my builds. Problem is, there appear to be so many programs out there.... which is the best? Which is the standard? What are the pros and cons of each system. I work primarily in Technic parts, so I don't know if one program is better than others for this genre. Is there a thread that describes all this stuff to beginners like myself? I also know there are other programs out there....just not sure which are the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  6. Now you can download new version of LEGO Instruction Book Creator at https://code.google.com/p/licreator/ Please, share you comments here. In next version one wish per person will be graded**. I you put more that one I selected only one - randomly. This list will be closed at May 20, 2015 at 20:20 ** maximally 10 in total. If I can do it.
  7. Hi, I don't know if there's a specific thread for this but I couldn't find one, so I hope it's ok me starting a new one. I do a lot of Lego in computer using both LDD and LDraw (Bricksmith editor), but what I'd like to try and do is create some higher quality images than the ones I manage to get out of LDView. I only have a Mac laptop. Could you give me any advice on the software/tools I need to get hold of? (Tried looking for Pov-ray but that doesn't seem to have a current mac release? Also, a lot of the tools seem geared exclusively for Windows which I can't run) Cheers NathanR
  8. There's a new LDraw update, version 2014-02. For the people here that don't like to read, here's the page that sums up all the new parts. If you do like a little more information, the following text sums it up pretty well: Source It also includes my first parts
  9. Virtual Movie Scene “Snowspeeder vs AT-AT” from Star Wars Episode V “Battle on Hoth”: Wedge Luke fights an AT-AT. Scenery and models (75049 Snowspeeder and 75054 AT-AT) virtually built with SR3D Builder. String (Rope) built with MLCad/LSynth. Povray render. Povray-file generated with LDView. Pure Render. Hope you like it! Edit October 16th: Now it is Wedge's "orange" Snowspeeder!

    [MOC] Feuerstuhl (Trike)

“Feuerstuhl” is german slang and usually used as expression for a heavy motorcycle. The direct translation to the English language is “Chair of Fire”. But this translation does not reflects the meaning of the german term “Feuerstuhl” which implies power, speed and roaring sound. Feuerstuhl is highly inspired by the built sc-3w-06 designed by Vince_Toulouse (see here). Its virtually built by SR3D Builder and rendered by Povray. HiRes images here.
  11. I was able to purchase the brand-new and very rare Lego Nanofighter 0.0000007965 Millenium Falcon !! The size of this new nanofighter fits exactly to the scale of the 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer. So my goal was to rebuild the famous Star Wars Scene from Episode V when Han Solo docks the Millenium Falcon to the Star Destroyer. Luckily I own 3 sets of 10030 as well as one set of 10221 Super Star Destroyer. So I was able to setup this movie scene in real life. As you can imagine, it was quite a bit fiddly to assemble this nanofighter. Especially assembling the laser cannons was a challenge. However, by using a magnifying glass and a pair of tweezers I was able to accomplish this mission. Have fun! original movie scene: Remake: Hi-Res Image

    MOC: LDraw Fire Engine

I have a decent sized Lego fire department that I and supplementing with LDraw apparatus to fill in for missing trucks. My question is what is everyone's preferred angle to view these in LDview? Do most people just stick with the standard 2/3 view or change the lat/long of thier renders? This angle just seams unnatural to me. Maybe because when I shoot them, I shoot them like I would an actual fire engine, and expect that angle of view. Thanks.
  13. JAGO is a submersible primarily dedicated to exploration and research in marine sciences. Check it out here: http://www.geomar.de.../jago/overview/ I virtually built it by SR3D Builder (LDraw system) and rendered it by Pov-Ray. Regarding the “Shark-Render” I used media and scattering for generating the “foggy” appearance of the underwater scenery. The sharks are from Lego 4506 Deep Sea Predators (posted by C3POwen in "Official Lego Sets made in LDraw"). Papacharly
  14. Hi people. If you need a quick and dirty LDraw model viewer that works on any platform, JLDraw is for you. Small, fast, portable, with some interesting functions. Some features: Uses 3D acceleration if supported by your graphic card Works fast on aged computers (tested on: 2007 notebook with integrated Intel video card; 2008 Mac PowerBook; 2010 desktop with entry-level ATI Radeon card; many others) Uses standard LDraw part library without uncompressing the "complete.zip" part library file (put downloaded library in same folder where is the program and "it works™") Support for both unzipped LDraw library and zipped library without reload program Rotate, pan and zoom with buttons or with mouse Center view right-clicking on a brick (as LDD) Select parts to view part type and color Hide parts to see internal structure Orthogonal or perspective view Lighting or flat shading Polygons, lines or both displayed Can save a screenshot of "what you see" (PNG format) Checks model and parts for invalid part/colors/sub-parts/sub-models Requires: Java Runtime 6 or later 3D capable video card (work with integrated cards. With entry-level 3D cards is FAST!) LDraw part library "complete.zip" in same folder where is the program or your LDraw folder 1Gb RAM Some numbers: Loads and render a 1300 parts Technic model in few seconds Rotation and zoom performs at minimum 40fps with an entry level 3D card (ATI Radeon HD5450). Try it: Latest release 0.2.0.2 (2014-09-14) SourceForge Project Page
  15. I am having trouble with LPub recognizing one of the assembly steps in an LDraw .mpd file. It's the step where the two sub assemblies are shown just prior to being assembled. They are separated, and have arrows showing how they get assembled. Here is the message I get: Invalid LDraw Line Type: main model.ldr:22 0 GHOST 1 72 0 0 -220 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 Multi Sheave Boom Head Left Side.ldr There are 8 pages of instructions, and the problem is when trying to render page 7 in LPub. Here is the file: http://bricksafe.com/pages/JDC/ It's called the Multi Sheave Boom Head Assembly.mpd
  16. A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT I like this movie as well as fly-fishing. So my goal was to copy the movie poster by using virtual legos. The scenery was arranged with SR3D Builder. Fly Line (string) generated with LSynth (MLCad). Rendered with Pov-Ray: For lighting I used 6 spotlights. For getting closer to the mood of the original movie poster I disabled radiosity and used focal blur. The original movieposter: It's my first poste in the "Special" forum. So hope you enjoy it.
  17. Hello everyone, This topic will be about designing and hopefully the build of the Smit Zwarte Zee. The Zwarte Zee was launched in 1963 and was the most powerfull ocean tug from Smit internationale sleepdiensten for a short while. It was wrecked in 1984 after several attempts to sell it, (to be converted into a yacht) did not succeed. For a lot of Dutch people this is one of the most beautiful tugs ever build. As a 14 year old I had build the wooden model of Billing Boats and turned it into a RC version. It was far from perfect but I was very happy with. I don't know what happened with rhe ship but I don;t own it anymore. Somewhere in march 2012 I started with the wheelhouse. The reason for that is that I had not build a ship that was longer than 1 meter at that time. Besides that I did not had any idea how to build a smooth hull of 2 meters long and about 32 cm wide. In April 2012 I had this: Bridge of the Smit Zwarte Zee by Konajra, on Flickr A good start. At the end of april 2012 I had the wheelhouse finished. Zwarte Zee WIP (3) by Konajra, on Flickr But then I still had no idea how to start with the hull. Other projects came around and I put the Zwarte Zee at hold. But after building my larger ships, the Fairplay and the Grampian Don. I had discovered new techniques how build a smooth looking hull. But stil I wasn't looking forward to desinging the hull. So I started to build the wheelhouse in bricks after I had broken down the Calypso. That ship has been displayed across europe and it was time to take her apart. WIP Zwarte Zee by Konajra, on Flickr WIP Zwarte Zee by Konajra, on Flickr This is the situation at the moment. Some other things came by and I haven't come any further yet. Until the beginning of januari this year when I finally started with designing the hull in MLcad. First attempt failed badly zwarte zee by Konajra, on Flickr zwarte zee Ldraw WIP by Konajra, on Flickr Normal slopes and curved slopes did not work here as good as they did on my Fiona coaster. After four restarts I have yet a great looking hull: Zwarte Zee Ldraw Wip version 4.0 by Konajra, on Flickr zwarte zee WIP by Konajra, on Flickr
  18. Hi, I'm new here, I've recently started designing Lego models in computer and I'm trying to put together some proper instruction manuals for them (LDD's instruction are usually quite bizarre for me). I've downloaded LDraw, Bricksmith and LPub for the Mac, it's all set up and working well but there are a couple of things that bug me: 1) In LPub, it seems to be impossible to ignore the last step of a callout where a floating part is placed correctly with a BufExchg Retrieve command. I've read the eurobricks guide, and the google site instructions for this ("https://sites.google...this-step'") but it never seems to work: e.g. 0 FILE untitled model.ldr 0 untitled model 0 Name: 0 Author: Nathan Readioff 1 4 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 -0 0 1 3022.dat 0 STEP 0 !LPUB CALLOUT BEGIN 1 4 -20 0 10 1 0 0 0 1 0 -0 0 1 Pins.ldr 0 !LPUB CALLOUT ALLOC HORIZONTAL 0 !LPUB CALLOUT POINTER CENTER 0 0.496622 0.492857 0 !LPUB CALLOUT END 0 STEP 0 NOFILE 0 FILE pins.ldr 0 untitled model 0 Name: Pins.ldr 0 Author: Nathan Readioff 1 0 20 -24 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 -0 0 1 32000.dat 0 BUFEXCHG A STORE 1 25 10 -14 -111 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 3673.dat 0 PLIST BEGIN IGN 1 25 10 -14 -41 0.707107 0.707107 -0 0.707107 -0.707107 -0 -0 0 -1 hashl4.dat 0 PLIST END 0 STEP 0 BUFEXCHG A RETRIEVE 1 25 10 -14 -11 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 3673.dat 0 !LPUB NOSTEP 0 STEP 0 NOFILE Is this just a bug in the Mac version of Lpub or have I got the commands wrong? 2) Is it possible to fine tune the placement of callouts? On multistep views it never seems possible to just click and drag, the way you can when only one step is shown per page. 3) Also, is there an alternative Mac editor to Bricksmith that allows BufExchg commands to be added within the code rather than typing everything manually in TextEdit? This gets a bit tedious… Would really appreciate any help! Cheers, NathanR
  19. I was searching forum for MOC but no results appeared, so my question is: is here some post dealing just with MOC models that I was unable to find or can I start my own later around it...or is it somewhat prohibited maybe and therefor no MOC topics?
  20. For attending my duty („ ... you must (if you win) share how you did the render…”) I prepared some comments on my entry for the rendering contest. Hope these comments will inspire you to create and poste some more nice renderings or even will encourage you to engage with rendering. Superkalle proposed to open a new topic fort his. So please feel free to poste further questions/comments/remarks here. I would highly appreciate if other participants in the rendering contest would poste some tips regarding their entries here too. 21. Welcome! Welcome to the 2014 Eurobricks Digital Contest for Ldraw and LDD tools. This years theme is to create your LEGO dream home; build any kind of building or construction that you'd like to live in - house, cottage, bioshpere, tree house... Categories First category: Free build The first category is a free-build category. Build whatever you like, as long as it is a home or special place or building you'd like to live: mansion, beach villa, tree house, biosphere...? You don't have to build a modular (you may do of course). Although it's possible to use all brick/color combinations, please don't do that. We don't check all the entries and it certainly is not a problem if you got a few slopes and bricks in some colors that don't exist, but don't make a full chrome-gold wall or a big fabuland-brown floor. We will disqualify entries that go too wild with the colors. Although you may build as big as you like, it would be nice to keep it within 100x100 studs. Minfigs are allowed. Second category: Micro build Don't have the time or skills to build a big house? Or maybe you don't like building big at all. Don't worry, you can enter in the second category. In this category, you have to build something in micro-scale. The maximum size allowed in the contest is 30x30 studs. Once again - the challenge is to build your dream home, so it's doesn't have to be a skyscraper like so many other Architecture buildings. But don't build in minifig scale...build in micro scale in this class. Minifigs not allowed. Third category: Rendering Since this is a digital contest, we have a special category for the best rendering. The theme is still "build your dream home". You can enter with either a MOC you made for Free or Micro class, or another one (as long as it is a home). This class will be judged on the rendering. You can chose whatever rendering approach you want: spaced out, ultra realistic rendering, rending with special lighting..... Prizes (special thanks to our friends at TLG!!) Free build category prize The first prize is an amazing 10243 Parisian Restaurant The second prize is the cool 31012 Family House Micro build category prize The first prize is the great 21014 Villa Savoye Rendering category prize The LDD Team has made a special prize available to us - three digital bricks to be added to the next LDD update. The winner of the rendering contest will be able to chose one of those bricks or choose an SR3D Builder license. The LDD brick can be a new or legacy bricks, as long as it's in-line with the other bricks in LDD. This means no odd Fabuland hear or so - the brick has to give meaning to other builders. But it can be a special and rare brick, that's no problem - the winner decides. Once the brick has been chosen, it will be added for the next update to LDD (which as you know may take several months). OR SR 3D Builder Registration Code (thanks Sergio!) Judges special prize The other two digital bricks will be awarded by legolijntje and Superkalle as "judges prizes" to some especially innovative entries that push the boundaries for using digital building, either by itself or together with physical building Rules Of course there are also some rules. Please read them carefully so you don't make any mistakes. Deadline All entries should be submitted in the entry topic before April 15th at 24.00 GMT. Make sure your entry is legit and according to the contest rules. General rules You may build your model using LDD or an LDraw based program, such as SR3D Builder, MLcad, LeoCad or BrickSmith. The contest is open to all EuroBricks members (also new members). Staff is not allowed to participate. You model should be new and never posted before anywhere on the internet. Use of custom parts is not allowed. Use of custom decals is allowed. Although it's possible to use all brick/color combinations, please try to don't do that. The model has to be physically buildable, so no floating bricks and such. Only 1 home/house per person per category. Entries One entry per member per class. You may enter one MOC in each of thee three classes (free build, microscale and rendering) Entries are to be placed in the correct entry topic in this forum. Entries not in the correct entry topic are not eligible for voting. You may create a separate topic for your creation in the specific theme forum (i.e not in the Digital Design forum), but you should also place your entry in the entry topic. The entry post may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. Entries are to consist of no more than 6 posted pictures of 800x600 or smaller resolution (rendering contest only 1 picture). You may link to higher resolutions of course. A little Photoshop is allowed for the picture, but only white balance, background editing etc. (except for the rendering category). The model itself should remain unchanged. You must share your digital file in the free build and micro-scale class. This is both to allow other people do judge your digital techniques when voting, but also to share in the spirit of the community. You don't have to share the file in the rendering class. On the other hand, in the rendering class, you must (if you win) share how you did the render (it doesn't have to be a detailed guide, but some tips and tricks at least). We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules. Free Build class rules You may build whatever you want, as long as it is some sort of house, building or construction where you'd like to live. There is no size limit, but it would be nice if you could keep it within 100x100 studs. Micro Build class rules You may build whatever you want, as long as it is some sort of house, building or construction where you'd like to live. Maximum size is 30x30 studs. Keep it micro, don't make something for minifigs. Think along the lines of the Architecture models (or smaller). Rendering class rules You may use any technique or tools you want, as long as it's based on LDD or Ldraw. You may not Photoshop the render (i.e. add lighting streaks or other post processing touch-ups). You may however re-size, downscale or sharpen the image and similar. You entry consists of 1 picture. Voting After the contest has closed, we will gather all entries and we will open a public voting topic - one for the micro and one for the free-build. Rendering will be chosen by EB staff Voting details will be shared when the voting starts. Only member that were members at the date the contest started are eligible to vote. Staff members are also allowed to vote. More information will be shared when the voting starts.

EB LDD/LDraw 2014 Contest Entry: House

Greetings! Once again I present to you a LDraw MOC made in SR 3D Builder for the Free Build category of Eurobricks' just finished LDD/LDraw 2014 Contest. I didn't have time to do the roofing well or even the basement, which I originally had plans to make, but if I get around to doing them later I will post updates. One of the great things about creating digital buildings is that you don't need to destroy the old before you build the new, so you can get back to your MOC whenever you want. Anyway, here goes: This first picture is, well, pretty self-explanatory I guess. It's the main floor of the building, the only one that I've built thus far. I wanted to try something new with the walls and I had used the overlapping 2 x 2 Round Plates many times for roofing, but I thought it would be interesting to try as the wall itself. Here's the Kitchen: Living Room: Bedrooms from different angles: Finally the complete build with a slapped together roof: I had a fun time working on all the furniture, but may have taken a bit too long with it. Anyway, here is the is the SR 3D Builder file, which is also available in the corresponding topic in the LDraw forum. Hope you enjoy this build. I took care to try to make the MOC fully buildable with real LEGO pieces. I checked on Bricklink for them. Some are not very common though and I may have accidentally included one or two parts that weren't, but overall it should be buildable. By the way, in case you haven't, do check out the contest entries in the LDraw forum, some are really, really good.

You may create a separate topic for your creation in the specific theme forum (i.e not in the Digital Design forum), but you should also place your entry in the entry topic. The entry post may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. Entries are to consist of no more than 1 posted picture of 800x600 or smaller resolution. You may link to higher resolutions of course. A little Photoshop is allowed for the picture, but only white balance, background editing etc. ONLY POST ENTRIES IN THIS TOPIC! COMMENTS AND OTHER POSTS WILL BE REMOVED. If you want to show your model to other users and let them comment on your moc, just make a topic in the correct subforum like any other moc.
