    Modular Corner Neighborhood

After 7 months of on- and off-building, my Modular Corner Neighborhood is finally built. When I started building the three buildings, my only goal was to use only parts I had at home. Well, I failed that. My favourite of the three is the corner building Cupcake Cafe despite the fact that it's the only half furnished. On the ground floor, there's the best Cupcake Cafe in town. The top floors are empty, but not for long. The new owner is already moving in some of his furniture. The moving van is a recycled MOC from a long time ago. The other modular building is the Grocery store. As the name implies, there's a Grocery store on the ground floor, and an appartment above. The store is small, but it has the basics. There's a nice variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh bread, dairy products, jams, etc. My inspiration for the store was the 10684 Supermarket Suitcase. The middle floor of the Grocery store building is the living area. On one side there's a small kitchen, on the other a living room, and in between is the dining area. The top floor has a large bedroom and a bathroom. The 16-wide building is residential. The ground floor has a kitchen, and door to a small terrace (I removed the wall for the photo session). On the middle floor is a living room with a more modern furniture. On the top floor is a bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The buildings can be rearranged in a linear layout. I added some details also to the back of the Grocery store building, mostly to hide the large grey wall. The buildings have some details also on the back side. If you're interested in more details, you can have a look in my (picture heavy) Flickr album, as I didn't want to include too many photos here. Most of them I was taking during the building process so they're not perfect, but most of the details can be seen.
  2. Hello, the new Architecture Skyline series is a nice idea - and I like most of the Berlin buildings. But: The "Deutsche Bahn Tower" is not black, and the Victory Column is very abstract. And the Berlin Wall is history - but well known, of course. The Brandenburg Gate - even in this scale - is great, also the Reichstag and the TV Tower. My review (in German) with impressions: Best wishes Andres

    MOC: Taj Mahal (Architecture)

Presenting my LEGO Architecture interpretation of one of the most iconic landmarks ever constructed - Taj Mahal. It was a very unique insight seeing how my designs and the ability to replicate features and elements of a source into a LEGO model have improved. Hradcanny Dungeons

Built for the Colossal Castle Contest. It was inspired by Michal Herbolt's "Defending the Mine" build. There are 4 individual cell modules that hook onto the back of the build. The dwarves of Hradcanny know well that run down prison cells increase the chances of escape, thus, even their dungeons feature wonderful craftsmanship of stonework. See more pictures here: link Thanks for looking, more to come soon
  5. Welcome to the Colosseum in Italy. I fully understand that some AFOLS have already built it and they did a fantastic job. I also love the Colosseum. I would like to build my own but rather I try not to follow the footsteps of my predecessors. Therefore, I try to build it small. To the best of my knowledge, perhaps this is quite original. Only several pieces of basic bricks are used. Instead, the major parts I used are technic bricks, hose, jumpers and binoculars. The building process requires exceptional patience. I have to look for a good curve which finally turns to be imperfect, but I am afraid that is the best I can do. This MOC won't be a LEGO IDEA project. I think TLG won't allow it to become an official set simply because the set is not sturdy. Yes, pieces won't fall out when I move it from one place to another, but it will change shape. I need to readjust the positions of binoculars...
  6. Hi all, this is my second public MOC, I built it two years ago, but just now I get the chance to show it to you. Hope you like it
  7. Hello Everyone, My new Design is Mercury City Tower from Architecture Series. i hope you will like. Thanks.
  8. Support France and say no to terrorism. This creations is driven by the sad news of the terrorist attack in France. It turns out to be rather late for me to publish it here. I have to wait for the arrival of red fence in order to complete my creation. Hope you agree with me -- the wait is worthwhile. Fences are the best LEGO parts to be used in this creation. In my first idea, I would like to build the MOC in the iconic tre-colour of red, white and blue. However, the blue fences are too costly. ^^" After all, I want a peaceful world so that I can concentrate on my creation....
  9. ...and I'm a very fan of LEGO since I was a little child! Now I'm 35 and I've rediscovered the pleasure of this game thanks to Internet and the Digital Designer. I have uploaded a couple of projects on the Ideas site; one of them became a "staff pick" few days ago and is acquiring a great number of supporters. It's THE PARTHENON. If you like it you can support it too here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/102120 Cheers! Marco

    LEGO Architects

Hi, LEGO Creator fans This is my 3d favorite LEGO series. Some fans advised me to translate from Russian into English my poem dedicated to the 80th anniversary of LEGO. If I mischose the theme, a regulater will choose where to upload it better. Many thanks. First the text is in Russian and below in English. (Sorry I failed to translate using rhymes). 24.01. 2012 To LEGO Architects (1932-2012) Once, having found in a desert a lamp with a magic prisoner The man asked the jinn, “What can you do, the spirit of the Universe? Should I be reckless or cautious in my dreams?” - “I am less the lamp’s prisoner than of my master’s wishes. My bondage are limits of human aspiration. I can make real anything that you can imagine And in exchange I beg you to free me from the power given to me, To let free the jinn, to wish him freedom. As one can’t count sands in a desert, so are my slave years countless”. How did the legend finish that wasn’t preserved by centuries. Only people turned the magic world into a game world. Everyone once started with toy blocks & puzzles. What couldn’t be made with blocks, that was completed by a dream. Children’s imagination is equal to the jinn’s powers, It includes the magic world as Aladdin’s lamp does. And the toy bricks boxes hold anything in the world, Anything that is in a child’s mind, and not only child’s. Because toys can start a collection If later a simple hobby is not enough. During lots of years different blocks Gave new forms to realization of imagination. And I still search for something somewhere, little by little. I know for certain, there are people in the world that’ll help me. Those whom I don’t know at all, but who has something But that is in hips – not needed any more. Promiscuously, indisorder, forgottensets Are in the corners, dusted – for months & even years. To give a second life to things used as pastime – That I can do as an architect who sees glory of ruins. What they used to be, our memory can suggest. But people didn’t spare even stone in their recklessness. Parthenon, the ancient masterpiece, wasn’t destroyed by elements But by being used as a military warehouse of gunpowder. Once a cannon-ball broke the strong roof And a terrible explosionshook the ancient building. Restorers have been trying for a lot of years to find In different branches of science the treasures lost by memory. Where is the source of their aspiration, interest for architecture, For the beauty of gone buildings & the culture which created them? - Maybe it is only in this hobby which gradually changed the life. Nothing passes away without a trace. Everything is kept deep in our minds. Sometimes we recollect long forgotten things. So a seed forces its way through soil. Unforeseen corn shoots, invisible at first, Cansproutsometimesunexpectedly. So a childish pastime, being only a game Sometimes can be a beginning of something more important. Then plastic will become stone and assembling instructions - Draughts of different buildings at a real construction site. 24.01. 2012.

    [MOC] In nomine patris

Hey everybody, today I'm comin' up with my latest creation, which is equally my second moc of a church. My 1st one was built in 2013 and it was designed as a mini modular. This one is much bigger, but it's also executed in microscale: You may find some similarities to any real examples of archtecture, but there is no original one for it - it's a freestyle model. The model consists of round about 3.500 pieces and overall it took me around 9 months to get it complete. In this case I could'nt resist, doing a little photo editing, to get an old-styled look ... ... and when it's getting dark, I turn on the interior light : That's it for now. So, feel free to leave any comment and tell me, what you think about it! Thx & so long, Jens
  16. Hi all, after some time I finally found the time to take at least some pictures of my Architecture model of Cologne cathedral. First of all: some facts about it: Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) General information: The Cologne Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church in the centre of Cologne. The construction commenced in 1248. Leaving unfinished, it was halted til 1473. In the 19th century the work started again and the construction was completed, defined on the plans from 1880. Concerning to those plans the Cologne Cathedral measured a length of 144.5 meters and a width of 86.5 meters. This Gothic cathedral is the largest church in Northern Europe. The height of the two spires, which give the largest façade of any church in the world, is registered with 157 meters. It is located 250 meters beneath the River Rhine where the former Roman city boundary was located. Since 1996 the Cologne Cathedral belongs to the UNESCO-cultural heritage. Overview: The front: History: In 1164, the Archbishop of Cologne (Rainald of Dassel) acquired the relics of the Three Kings which the Holy Roman Emperor had taken from the Basilica of Sant’Eustorgio (Milan). Those relics had a great religious significance and because of this there had to be a “proper house” for them. The foundation stone was laid in 1248 by the Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden. The eastern arm was completed in 1322 and sealed off to the rest of the construction to ensure its use. In the mid 14th century work on the west front commenced, but halted in 1473. The south tower was completed up to the belfry and for the next 400 years, the skyline of Cologne showed a crane at top of the Cathedral. During the 19th century the construction was completed. This was achieved by civic effort and, in 1842, the “Central-Dombauverein” was founded. It raised two-thirds of the costs while the Prussian state supplied the remaining third. It was finished in 1880 resuming to the medieval plans and rediscovered façade plans from 1280. The front of the west side was completed in 1911. With the 19th century romantic enthusiasm for the Middle Ages, and spurred on by the discovery of the original plan for the façade, it was decided, with the commitment of the Protestant Prussian Court, to complete the cathedral. It was achieved by civic effort; the Central-Dombauverein, founded in 1842, raised two-thirds of the enormous costs, while the Prussian state supplied the remaining third. While World War II, the cathedral suffered fourteen hits by bombs. It was not broken completely so the Cologne Cathedral stood very tall to the flattened city. The cathedral was, in later years of the war, used as navigational landmark which may be the reason that it was not destroyed completely while World War II. Repairs of the building were done around 1956. World Heritage Site In 1996, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List of culturally important sites. In 2004 it was placed on the "World Heritage in Danger" list, as the only Western site in danger, due to plans to construct a high-rise building nearby, which would have visually impacted the site. The cathedral was removed from the List of In Danger Sites in 2006, following the authorities' decision to limit the heights of buildings constructed near and around the cathedral. As a World Heritage Site, and with its convenient position on tourist routes, Cologne Cathedral is a major tourist attraction, the visitors including many who travel there as a Christian pilgrimage. Visitors can climb 509 stone steps of the spiral staircase to a viewing platform about 98 m (322 ft) above the ground. The platform gives a scenic view over the Rhine. Minifig in front of the Cathedral/in front of the Burj Khalifa and "the Walker": You can find more pictures here: The background information about the Cologne Cathedral was taken by wikipedia.de / wikipedia.com

  19. What is your favorite Lego Architecture set? I love the Lego Architecture Series and have built almost every model. I just completed an article on my blog where I've identified my 5 favorite sets under 50$. I'd love to hear what other fans of the Architecture Series think. LINK: http://tomalphin.com/2014/03/top-5-lego-architecture-sets.html Some questions I'd love to hear your thoughts on: How many people on this forum have built most of (or all) of the sets in this series? What's your favorite set? What most important for a great set in the Architecture series? Realism, advanced building techniques, great parts selection, the instruction booklet, size of finished model, price? Sincerely, ---tom
  20. Hi all, Few months ago, I realised this MOC for the TechLUG forum. I enjoyed very much to reproduced this building, so I decided to promote it and create it in lego IDEAS website (https://ideas.lego.com/projects/115929). I Hope you like it as much as I liked create it. The German Federal Chancellery is a recent building with many interesting details. You can find much details on the history of the building on the wikipedia page here : https://fr.wikipedia...dérale_(Berlin) unfortunately it seems to be unavailable in english... It as in the same line that the Paul Loebe Haus, the Federal Parliament which I made previously (http://www.techlug.f...it=chancellerie), but it is another story... I tried to enumerate all the particularity of the building and reproduce with accuracy on my model, I will show you them in the end of the topics... My model, main entrance : River side : Birds eye view : Archs : ---- MORE DETAILS / COMPARISONS ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Size, scale from birds eye view : Each side building is made with "glass cubes" : 3 cubes placed side by side / 1 empty space / 1 cube / 1 empty space / 3 new cubes It is the left side construction. The right aisle is cut by the Spree river. The left side is finished by a thin piece of concrete with a hole on the side. I tried to reproduce that. It is not as round as expected. The main problem is in the fact that I made a ground with 2 plates height max to respect the architecture standards. Each side aisle has on its face a groove in the concrete. I made them with the brick 2x1 with groove http://cache.lego.co...5/2/4264360.jpg Each side aisle start with a gable end In the interior side of the aisle, there are large windows In the middle of the main entrance, there are 3 flags. I used the same trick that in the 21018 UN HQ set. The main entrance has many artistic concrete parts. I tried to be accurate, but it is not easy because of the dimensions. Behind these parts, the entrance with round concrete on the first floor The main building is higher than the side aisles and has two big windows archs These archs are just under the roof. the roof is round with 2 triangles of thin concrete On the rear of the building, a nice garden with trees on the sides Here is details of some constructs ideas : the first floor : The rear aisle windows : trees : I hope you liked it, I read all until here ! Your C&C are most welcome... and maybe your support on Lego ideas website https://ideas.lego.com/projects/115929 ;)

  23. The LEGO architecture series is a Landmark thing and it is very unlikely they would release something from Austria, since our fame comes more from Mozart and classical music. Nevertheless I tried to find one buiding, that would represent typical Austrian architecture and which I could transfer to a useful scale, to stand at least a bit of a chance that it would be relesased as LEGO Set. The more famous Castle of Schönbrunn is to wide and would be far too small in height. The Gloriette is mainly beautiful because of sitting on top of a hill. Perhaps the Riesenrad would do, but then, transferred to a miniscale it would look like any ferry's wheel. The Upper Belvedere is home to a world famous painting, The Kiss by Gustav Klimt and thus one of the most visited castles in Vienna. Hope ya like my Version of it. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/115271 @ Pandora: sorry, didn't know, thanks for puttin' it right
  24. I’d like to kick off with one of my (sort of) master pieces. At least some of my local LUG like it and it was displayed at our local LEGO store. It is a railway stop in Vienna, actually an underground-station of the line U6, but situated above floor level. The architect of the original building was Otto Wagner https://en.wikipedia...iki/Otto_Wagner, world famous for Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) in Vienna, Austria. It is my least „micro“-scale building I’ve ever built, the scale is approx. 1:100. I’ve tried to show as much detail as possible and it showcases each and every door and bench. Just in the wings I had to reduce the number of windows from 8 to 6, to keep the symmetry with the archs below. The roof rests like with the original building on the green stands, so they are functional even within my model. For the Nouveau-Art ornaments came mixel-teeth in quite usefully, as well as the round 1x1 mini-tiles. (klick to enlarge) Here’s a view into the building with the platform, therefor i removed the roof on one side. However, I did not add a train, because I’m more interested in architecture than in trains.
  25. Hi everyone, although this site has EURO in its name i’m quite surprised to find so many here from all over the world, which makes the pleasure to join in even bigger. I’m from Austria, from the very heart of Europe and not to be mixed up with the land of kangoroos from downunder ;-) Austria is most famous for Mozart and the Blue Danube (which is not blue at all). I live, as one quarter of all Austrians in its capital, Vienna, where I am member of the local LUG „LGOe“. Our german-written homepage, which contains also a forum, would be www.lgoe.at. I’m in LEGO since childhood with the common long time of (nearly) not touching a brick until the day, when my boy set foot into our world (2008). Then I started to rebrick my old sets, but in the meantime, with all the new parts that have come with the new sets, I became a MOCer. My favorite subject when MOCing became Microscale, since I don’t have a house and space to keep parts and buildings is rare. When LEGO started the Architecture-Series I decided to turn Austrian buildings into LEGO-Microscale, I usually try to minimalize as small as I can without losing the things that make up the special approach of the original building. Thus I try to keep the proportions but overdo some important details - but you will find out yourself when i post the pictures. Another microscale I started together with another man of my LUG is a Microcaletown called Teensietown, which has indeed a spezial mix of scales but all together it looks quite pretty and it is growing exorbitantly fast. I’m a denier of most modern time tools and have neither accounts on facebook nor flickr. I will share my pics only in this forum or the one of my Austrian LUG. You may have noticed, that English is not my mother’s tongue. When writing in English I use to do it in a sometimes all too poetic style, so please accept the poetic license in my very words. Thanx!
