    SG's AoM: Farm Phase 2

It's that time of year again. The days are colder and shorter. The leaves begin to fall. Farmer Rudasill admires yet another successful growing season. He knows harvest grows near. This build was harder than expected due to a limited piece selection. I'm planning on picking up more parts for Phase 3. That aside, it was still enjoyable none the less. I particularly liked building the corn and tomato plants. I'm happy to finally work that scarecrow into one of my builds :) Thanks gedren_y for the pumpkin suggestion! It was a pain working with those Indy whips (they always seem to want to curl back up), but I love the end result. C&C are welcome!
  2. Second Quarter Free Build Registration March 1st 2014 to October 1st, 2014 (Book II, Quarter 2) This topic will lock on October 18th, 2014 What is this thread? This is the thread where YOU register your free build if you wish it to be scored for your guild. Why are you doing this to us? Despite Rogueang’s wonderful MOC index, the guilds project has become quite large. The core leaders feel that we need a self-indexing mechanism that will allow us to grade free builds more efficiently. This is what we have come up with. What do I need to do? Just simply write the following information In a NEW post: Name of Moc with link to the thread | Name of Builder | Guild you belong to IE: Obsidian Spike |ZCerberus | Nocturnus Do not write anything else. What counts as a “Free Build?” Great question! Any GOH build that was not entered in one of the official main challenges. All free builds must have their own thread, and there must be a link to that thread provided here. Do not comment on builds in this thread, please do that on the MOC’s own thread. Can I just post in my guild thread and leave it at that? Whereas you are welcome to do so, if the build does not make it into the index , it will not be scored. Can I put up an entry for another guild member's build? If that builder has disappeared and we are getting near the deadline, this would be allowed.

    AoM: Farm Phase 2

There are many small farms located around Volhaal in Southern Graystar. However there are fewer that are vinyards. Had this sitting around for over a week, finally had time to take pictures and edit. As per usual C&C are gladly welcome
  4. Rumors of unrest and potential incursions over the Mitgardian/Avalonian border have reached the ears of Sir Brychan, and because his lands lie on the border, he has taken it upon himself to keep a careful watch on activity crossing in and out of Avalonia. Along with having checkpoints and requiring certifying papers for those crossing the border, he has sent a regiment of his soldiers to regularly patrol the pass Brotnað Liða, which is the only viable way for a person to cross the mountains that form the border. Some of the soldiers on patrol. Same soldiers... But from another angle... This is just a build I did today to get away from my task 5, which has been consuming most of my building time lately and has me rather uninspired. So I figured I'd take a break for while, and maybe start working on some more "tour of historica" builds. It was also an experiment/first attempt at doing snow, along with the leaning pine tree technique. (P.S. I was able take the pictures outside today, and it definitely helped a lot) (P.P.S. Brotnað Liða, ruffly translated from old norse, means broken pass, just so y'all know)

    AoM: Stables Phase 1

AoM: Stables Phase 1 by ~ Sir Gareth ~, on Flickr I decided to take a break from working on my Farm Phase II and build this instead. It was rather fun to make. I quite enjoyed building the snow. My favorite part has to be the cheese slopes surrounding the pole. C&C are welcome!

  7. Not much of a story this time. Phase I can be found here, and the obvious inspiration for the tower itself, Combee's wonderful WoW-inspired Ogre Encampment, is here. I'm still unsure how the legs connect to the tower platform in his; mine is a very shaky connection via hinge bricks. Had a lot of fun trying to figure it all out! Over a year after Ruggezh and Tark of the Grashtaz tribe killed the guards of a small outpost, an Orcish tower had emerged in its place. Moving quickly after the scouts returned with news of their conquest, the Dwarven outpost was demolished, the orcs not even bothering to clear out all of the debris--even building upon it, and displaying the remains of the slain guards. The tree next to the outpost was struck down and used to build the rickety tower, along with several other nearby trees. Emboldened by their success and with a foothold in this mountain pass, the orcs invaded the nearby mining town and became entrenched in the region. The dwarves and humans, however, were already drawing plans to drive the orcs back to the Marches and fortify the southwest... "Alas, poor Thorgal...." They shredded the Mitgardian flag, but the colors still shone brightly! The stump of the tree remains, and a tumble of ruined stone serves as crude steps to the ramp spiraling around the tower. In addition to removing the original outpost (built on a couple 6x12 plates attached via jumpers to the greater base), I rearranged several pieces of the surrounding base, mostly what were meant to be loose stones, kicked around as the orcs built their new tower. See the rest on my Flickr! Thanks for taking a peek!

    AoM: Tower Phase 2

Some outposts in Graystar were upgraded during the winter months. More permanent stone towers were built, especially around the city of Volhaal, the captial of Graystar. These particular towers were built on top of old dwarven tunnels from ages past to make them more secure. Tower of Volhaal Storage and Access Tunnel Finally after a long wait for a bricklink order I got my phase 2 built All C&C welcome, and can I move on to phase 3?

    Aide for Nocturnus

A group of Mitgard warriors leave their lands to aid the rebel cause in Nocturnus. The treacherous mountain passes adjoining Mitgardia and Nocturnus have become two-way streets of sorts: refugees, fleeing the turmoil in Nocturnus, brave the passages in hopes of finding peace; while fighters from across Historica attempt to bypass the Kelra Labyrinths and bolster the anti-Black Spire forces. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- About this MOC: Another Mitgardia-esque freebuild using some of the advice I got from my Seeking Refuge in Mitgardia MOC. I'm not sure how the community feels about building between guilds, but I only have time to work on two or three projects at most, and I try to make them all GoH related. I don't mean to step on any Mitgardian toes with these builds, it's just that it can get a little bleak in Nocturnus (still the best guild)! Thanks for looking and feedback is of course welcomed!

    Valholl Winery and Bottlery

It seemed like a peacful night for Ulric, but.... Ulric dismissed the light sound he heard behind one of the lightposts, "It must be a rat." Before he could react, the unkown man had flipped him on the ground and had pulled his dagger out switfly. After hearing a yelp from inside, Bjorn called to several more guards and the burst into the winery.

    Homeward Bound!

After receiving a notice from Sir Uridius Dratiphe to return to Mitgardia, I started thence with a light and joyful heart. Upon reaching the border I reined in for a moment to gaze at the awe-inspiring sight. Who that has seen those rough plateau and snow-clad hills can but sense a thrill of joy on returning? Then, breaking into a gallop, I started for the mountains - homeward bound. Mitgardia! - Sir Douglass Winzer Figless: Just a quick little build to get Sir Douglass back from Avalonia. I would like to recieve UoP credit for: Landscape Design: (trees 2) General Building: (forced perspective) Geography: (mountains or cliffs) C&C are welcome!

It meant that Pjeter was too busy with everyday affairs to notice some of Lief’s nocturnal activities. Tonight was especially important to not be seen. It would be rather difficult to explain why he was lurking around the city cemetery this late at night. He opened the gate and winced as it creaked a little. He slipped inside and looked behind himself to make sure he hadn’t been followed. Seeing no one around he whispered, “all clear.” “You worry too much” Edea said as she stepped from the shadows. “Soon no one will be left in Dalig Ulv to stop you, even if they wanted to.” “Yes,” said another woman who also stepped from the shadows. “We will soon awaken the Tri-Council and have enough power to subdue all who stand in our way.” She stepped up next to Edea and was followed by one more woman. “Ah,” exclaimed Lief, “I did not know your sisters would be joining you so soon. Is it wise for all three of you to be here? Won’t someone notice you?” “The minds of the commoners in Dalig Ulv are easily meddled with” said Deanna, one of Edea’s sisters. “We have taken traveler’s rooms at the inn and just happen to let some magic slip whenever we need to come or go” added Athea, Edea’s other sister. “It’s entertaining to watch the men slip their drinks after we have messed with their minds!” she cackled. Leif started to look a little worried, “Edea, please, keep your sisters under control! You know we can’t have anyone discovering our plan yet!” “Do not worry. My sisters may seem carefree, but they know as well as I do the importance of our mission” responded Edea, directing the last part of her statement at her sisters with a raised eyebrow. “Now, as you know Lief, we have been having some trouble getting the information we need.” “If you need to kill another one so be it!” said Lief. “Ah, but this time we will have to venture within the city itself. We think the one who has the information we need has been holing himself up within the city walls. Probably because our mission is not hard to guess for those who already know the secret we are trying to learn” explained Edea. “Very well,” answered Lief, “But we must hurry. I’ve received word that Wyndor will not be long in returning. He is too meddlesome and may cause us trouble if we don’t hurry.”
  13. Good news. After the orc attack, we (Björn and Ulrich) decided to set aside the beer and start making a better gate, to keep Mitgardia save. After a few weeks of cutting down trees and building a gate, they still were not satisfied. They decided to rest a week, drink some beer (Björn insisted to empty the barrels), and then start to make a gate with stone, and ask for archers. We need to protect the farmers from the orcs. We don't see many people, just farmers working on the frozen lands, preparing for next spring. "Hello good men, we come from Avalonia, and wish to proceed", a soldier in full plate armor says. He has a companion that looks the same. They look like Avalonian knights, but there is something odd. They speak with a weird accent. Also, their weapons are weird. A crossbow, a horn clearly of orcish design, a small metal shield and axe. "Well, I can't let you pass if you don't take of your helmet, so we can see you are real Avalonian knights." With that, the Orcs attack. I can dodge a crossbow bolt, and I jam my spear in his stomach. With normal soldiers, that would be a lethal wound. With full plate, nothing happens. Fighting full plate armor with a spear is not easy. I hear Björn on the gate curse. He jumps on top of the axe soldier, grabs the helmet and jams his spear in one of the eyes. The orc is dead instantly. Meanwhile I am still trying to kill the other orc. He manages to shoot another bolt, which lands in my spear arm. I know if Björn doesn't help me, I am dead. I hear him curse some more. He runs towards the orc, pulls the helmet off and jams his spear in the mouth of the orc. He is also dead. Now I can't fight anymore, my speararm is useless. Everything turns black, as I feel the live slip out of me. Filthy poisoned orc bolts. Shot of the gate with the orcs attacking. Backside of the gate. Well, that's it. My phase ll gatehouse. Hope you like it! C&C welcome!
  14. The ongoing troubles in the Darklands has forced the displacement of many Nocturnian families, both rich and poor alike. Whole villages emptied after rumors arrived of marauding armies in the countryside, who forced villagers to provide quarter and food while ransacking those who resisted. Mostly the "pillagers" were nothing more serious than a group of bandits or, on occasion, a few Dragon Masters, displaced themselves after the fall of Dragon Keep and in need of nothing more malicious than a warm meal and bed. But troops carrying the Black Spire's standards had been seen more frequently in recent times. Reports grew every week of villages which, suspected of aiding the rebel cause, had been razed by Raavage's soldiers. This growing fear became too much for many of Nocturnus' already struggling people. Life here is hard enough without the constant threat from pillaging armies. So what was at first a trickle of refugees became a steady stream, as whole families packed up and sought shelter with relatives or friends in the quieter areas of Nocturnus - or, in some cases, in other lands. In fact, perhaps nowhere was the exodus more noticeable than in Nocturnus' border communities, where relative safety could be just a day or two's march away. Deciding to start their lives over in the lands of another Guild must have been a difficult decision to make. Those with plenty of darics in their pockets of course had an easier time, but poorer families had to face not only distrust in their new homes but also little to no employment. Most daunting to these refugees, however, was the journey itself. Mitgardia, with its harsh and unforgiving terrain, was most suitably to the hard-living people of Nocturnus, but neither rich nor poor could avoid the treacherous, mountainous roads connecting the two lands, where one misstep could prove disastrous. Often the men of the house had stayed behind to sell the family's property - or, most unfortunately, had themselves been forced into the ranks of passing armies - so these perilous treks were made mostly by woman, children and the old. A few of the older villagers, who had perhaps fought in the past and still kept a rusting sword or old bow hidden in their homes, had to be relied on to provide some measure of protection for the other refugees. Still, the well-patrolled roads kept most bandits away, and the majority of those who dared the journey were successful. Although their troubles would not be over, the Nocturnian refugees could at least hope for peace and a chance to raise their families. But hope, alas, can be fleeting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- tl;dr - Pictured below, a group of Nocturnian refugees from Covenant lands enter the Mitgardian lowlands in hopes of a better future. The journey is not easy for everyone but families do their best to aid the old and sick. Fortunately, a cold, spring-fed pond abuts the trail, providing the group with fresh water and a good place to rest from the withering trek. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About this MOC: With Challenge III underway in Mitgardia soon I needed some practice building something other than a swamp, lavafield or mountain so I put together this little freebuild. Mostly wanted to try out some new color schemes for me and go with a Mitgardia-flavored landscape. I thought parts would (correct me if I'm wrong ) look close to the highland-type areas of Scotland so I tried to go with a craggy, rock-strewn landscape, and sparse vegetation consisting mostly of moss and scrub grass. Of course, with current events in Mitgardia, these refugees might have to make the trek back... In any case, thanks for looking and any feedback is certainly appreciated!

    AoM: Store Phase 1

There are many places that one can buy weapons around Graystar and the markets in the city of Volhaal are no exception. Just my entry for the store phase 1 hope you guys like it, as per usual all C&C welcome, have an idea for phase 2 just waiting on my bricklink order to arrive
  16. We rejoin Alva Tyrnsdottir sometime after the axe-throwing tournament and sometime after her father began training her in the Arnarvhall style of axe and dagger close-quarters combat. An Arnarvhalling shield maiden must master many martial skills, however, including the traditional Shield Wall employed by viking parties. Training on the sand in full battle dress promotes the strength and coordination necessary for real combat. Though the weapons are blunted, no one enjoys getting hit by them. Tyrn, Alva's own father, acts as the commander of the Red Team. Their goal is to protect him from the Blue Team and vice versa. If either should break through, its commander is exposed and the victory is won for the other side. The commander of the Blue Team is Mad Marrgin, known in Arnarvhall for both his experience with the Shield Wall and his penchant for unorthodox tactics. Finally got around to my latest GoH build! I'm very proud of the water here and hope it looks as good to you guys as it does to me. I also like this Runestone better than the one I put in my Archery Phase 3. I notice now that I'm missing an obvious Mitgardian standard/flag. I hope all the green sleeves and yellow hands/faces are enough! Anyway, credit goes to someone else for the warhammer design. I only wish I could remember who's build it was where we talked about it. Same goes for the Runestone really! I should start making a list of stuff I see and then put in builds but sometimes there's a serious time lag and I forget. :( So please take credit if you see something familiar! Oh and Phase 1 here.

    AoM: Tower Phase 1

Outposts can be found across the divide between North and South Graystar. Since the problems in Nocturnus and Avalonia, Edward von Graystar ordered the building of more of these outposts. This particular type are temporary and are in place until a tower can be built in there stead. Just a quick entry for the AoM: Tower Phase 1. This is one of my favourite builds so far, and any C&C is welcome as per usual, also the tan tops of the wood was inspired from one of SK's builds
  18. Finally! We have enough money to buy a cart, and start selling ale! Maybe, if the sales are very good, we can buy a real inn. "He Hjalmar! We need to get moving! The ale doesn't sell itself!" "One moment Knut, I'm coming!" My little brother, Knut is very impatient when it comes to money. I whisper something in the horses ear, and it starts walking. Slowly to not shake the ale too violently we start moving. To the horizon, selling ale! After half a day of walking, sometimes selling a cup of ale (or two) to some nice looking farmers. Knut says: "I am thirsty, let's rest a bit and drink some ale." He sits down and starts drinking. Who cares? We are free! We can do whatever we want! I join him and drink some nice ale. Hjalmar and Knut, traveling over a snowy road. And here are the two lucky brothers, drinking ale and enjoying life. My entry to the Inn phase l. Hope you like it, C&C welcome! (And can someone say what C&C stands for?)
  19. Here we are. In the cold, cold winter night. We are guarding a smugglers route, that has been discovered last month. We, Björn and I, Ulrich, are standing here for almost a week now. So far we saw no smugglers. Didn't think we'd see any. They will just use another route. Mark my words. And it is cold here. It is middle winter now. Avalonian smugglers will stay inside. I look at Björn. He needs to drink less. Since we got here, he hasn't been sober. "He, Ulrich! Want (hic) some beer? (hic). That will defrost (hic) your fingers." "Quiet! I heard something." I say. "yeah, my (hic) stomach. It has not(hic)hing to eat." "Just shut up! I heard something!" There it is again. Some creature is moving through the snow. Is it a smuggler? No! It is an orc! "Grab your spear Björn! We are under attack!" I hear a snoring sound. Of course. When I need him, he is asleep. Great. I hide behind a large rock. I see nothing. There! The moon shines on a dark figure, moving towards Björn. I jump on the rock and let my spear land in the head of the orc. I hear a nice splashing sound. Excellent. One down. Is that it? Will there be more? It seems quiet now. Alright. Need to be careful here. A pic of Björn drinking, an orc attacking and Ulrich jamming a spear in the orc's head. I now see it looks like the orc has his axe in a weird grip, it is just a double bladed war axe. And here is a pic of the gate. More of a roadblock, but as it is only a Phase l, I think it is enough. Next phases will be much more gate like. That's it, the Phase l gatehouse entry. Hope you like it, C&C welcome.
  20. Part l (sorry about the quality...) "Snow is early this year" Björn thought. Since he found the ring, 10 years past. He inherited the farm 4 years ago. Since then, he was very busy giving orders. His father won a sort of lottery and won a lot of money. He hired a few guys to help on the farm. He also expanded the farm. Unfortunately his father fell of the roof of the stable he was trying to fix. He broke his neck and died. Now, Björn was walking besides a field with crops. "Hurry with harvesting them!" He shouted at the workers. With the snow being this early this year, the crops were needed more then ever. It promised to be a long and very cold winter. None was to be wasted. Suddenly, a guy with a scarf over his mouth and a piece of cloth over his head jumped out of the crops. He pointed his sword at Björn and shouted: "Give me that ring! Now!" "I said now! Give it!" "Drop your sword!" Alfadas shouted as he run to the robber. He was in town, visiting some distant relatives. He heard screaming and decided to check it out. A Mitgardian guard came with him. The thief decided to fight. He lost. Alfadas asked Björn what it was all about. "This ring. Once it was a very powerful ring. I couldn't show it to anyone, I couldn't throw it away. Anyway, it is a long story. Can I invite you to my farm to talk about it?" "Yeah, sure. I could use some company, other than this nice guard." "very well, let's go". This is my AoM Farm Phase ll entry. Hope you like it, C&C welcome. As you have guessed, this story will be continued.
  21. The Snowvenom Dragon is a mid sized winged dragon, of the Reptilim family. These large beasts are highly dangerous. Covered in venom filled spikes, these dragons are known for their razor sharp teeth, paralysis inducing claws, and a deadly stinger (located on the end of the tail). The Snowvemon Dragon, however, is a noble beast at heart. Some men of valor can tame the beast, but only if they are able to overcome the Dragon's steely will and prove themselves worthy. Mitgardian Rangers are known to raise and tame the Snowvenom Dragons. Here Sir Infernum's older brother, Rorark, is seen on the back of his dragon, who has been equipped with a saddle and razor sharp spears for battle. Yup, here's mah dragon! He's my entry to the Mount-up! challenge. He uses tons of Mixels joints, and is super posable! I also really love his color scheme. Hope you like it!

    Feud in Teridyan

See the previous parts of the story: Part 1 Part 2 Wyndor and Glorfindel left Dålig Ulv on their journey to try to foster unity amongst their fellow Mitgardians. They had already journeyed for many days taking time to stop at different villages and cities along the way sharing their message. They even had to time to watch certain local tournaments like the one in Arnarvhall. Wyndor and Glorfindel thought that these kinds of festivals were good at reminding the people that they all belonged to one guild regardless of their past history. Next stop on their journey was Teridyan. As the two adventurers walked into the city they could tell that no festivals awaited them here. Instead they were accosted by angry voices. “What do you mean this is all you have! The jarl will not be satisfied with this, we were counting on you being able to provide us with much more food” they heard the guard captain say. “With this famine times are hard even for us Clansmen. Maybe you City-Dwellers should learn to fend for yourselves better!” replied the leader of troop of Great Elk Clansmen. Glorfindel and Wyndor looked at each other for just a moment before Glorfindel spoke up, “I’m sorry to interrupt your… business good sirs. But as official representative from Valholl, perhaps I can be of assistance in settling this dispute?” “You city dwellers are all the same” spat the Clansman. “You think all problems can be settled with words. Well, you are welcome to try your hand here. I could use a good laugh today.” The other two Clansmen chuckled to themselves. Not to be dissuaded, Glorfindel continued with his questions. “Captain, perhaps you could begin with your side of the story.” “Well, your honor,” began the guard, “it’s like this you see. There’s been a famine this harvest. Maybe it’s affected other parts of Mitgardia, but none so much as here in Teridyan. As you can see our fair city is in need of repairs and we haven’t received much help from Valholl… no offense your honor, I know you all have been busy with bigger problems. But you see many of our farmers have moved to other parts of Mitgardia and with this famine, we haven’t the food to feed everyone in the city. We’ve always had a good relationship with our neighbors, the Great Elk Clan, so our jarl commissioned the Clan to help provide us with provisions. We are paying them adequately, but you see there just isn’t enough for everyone… and well my family…” Glorfindel could tell this guard had a lot on his chest and knew they weren’t going to get far in their discussion if he let him continue. “All right captain, I think I’m beginning to understand. And you, Clansmen, what is your side in all this?” “Hrmph,” the leader started, “as he said, we have had a shortage of food recently. We agreed to help the people of Teridyan by bringing in some of the game we had killed. But the famine is starting to affect us too and we can’t spare any more. We have to think of our own families first. We can’t look after these weaklings anymore. If they knew the land as we do they wouldn’t be in situation!” “And if they all hunted don’t you think there would be far less game to find?” asked Wyndor. “Who’s the whelp?” the dark haired Clansman asked. Not showing he heard Wyndor continued, “and if all these ‘city-dwellers’ lived the way you do who would trade with you and provide your barrels and wagon wheels? Do you have trained coopers amongst your people now or blacksmiths or glass workers?” “We lived without them before, we can live without them again!” answered the gray-haired Clansman. “That’s not what you told me when I came of age Dain” replied Wyndor. Dain looked closer at Wyndor. “It couldn’t be, not Graham’s little pup? How’d you grow up so fast?” Glorfindel raised an eyebrow at Wyndor inquisitively. “My father was a firm believer in raising us accord to the clan’s ways and sent us to them for our right of passage into adulthood” Wyndor explained. “Dain here was one of the elders who oversaw my time in the wilderness many years ago.” He then turned back to the Clansmen. “You said at that time that the clans and the city-dwellers would always need each other.” “That was a different time” answered Dain. “Things have changed. Most city-dwellers no longer care about our ways and traditions. They have no knowledge of the past and that betrays their contempt for the future!” “The future is not living like a savage!” shouted one of the townsfolk. A small crowd had gathered to see the two strangers and had stayed to hear the heated discussion. “You see,” said the Clansman leader. “We can afford to help these aragant city-dwellers no longer! Take these barrels of venison, but know that there will be no more from the Great Elk Clan.” Dain caught Wyndor’s eye for a moment after the leader had spoken his final pronouncement, and then turned away sadly. Wyndor and Glorfindel were soon left by themselves as everyone else had business to take care of. “Well, that didn’t go as planned” said Glorfindel. “No, it appears Mitgardia is not as unified as we had first hoped” answered Wyndor. “Let’s meet with the jarl to see if there is anything else we can do to try to heal the rift here. But I’m afraid that there may not be much more we can do.”

    Mount Up! Ice Mole

Long ago in Treacleheim the Dwarves of Mitgardia used Ice Moles to dig their larger passageways for them. They were raised from birth by trainers and could be commanded with clicks and hoots. They are a rare sight in Mitgardia now. But some Dwarves still raise them and use them on the north side of the Mitgardian mountain range. More pictures on my flickr!
  24. Long before the cities of men had sprung up across Historica, the dwarves had already begun to shape the world. Unable to resist the call of the ore from deep within the Mitgardian mountains, 4 of the most influential dwarvish clans claimed territories amidst its peaks, and an age of prosperity soon ensued amongst the dwarves. The oldest and wisest foresaw that all good things must come to an end, and in preparation built a watchtower with intentions of holding the pass to the Mitgardian mountains. And his wisdom proved prudent. The richness of the clans soon drew the attention of the wild orcs from the Western Orcish Marches. Attack after attack came, and while the individual orcish clans were always beaten back, he knew that it would be a matter of time before a shaman united the clans and with their combined might the tower would not hold. Calling upon the elders of the other dwarf clans, a plan was hatched to fortify the tower. Each of the 3 remaining clans sent their best masons and builders, and whatever else they could spare. Thus, Gathul Khazad, the fortress of the dwarves, was bricked. Banners were raised, with a simple embalm representing the four clans, and soldiers were sent to forswear loyalty to no individual clan, but for the greater good of Mitgardia. Each clan had built in their own unique style, but what emerged was a fortress capable of holding back the orcish clans. As the centuries passed, walls were damaged but never breached, and always repaired. As unrest grumbled in modern Mitgardia, the call to arms was made, and soldiers prepared to move out. No firm orders had been given, but it was rumored that they would be lead by the mysterious stranger who had traveled far to reach Gathul Khazad. Unusual it was, but the troops had been trained to obey, and if that was what the commanders had decreed, then it would be so. As they lined up to march, many glanced up at the stranger, who would spend a further 3 days in the fortress before making haste to catch up with the troops. Until then, Dorrim was in charge of marching the forces through the treacherous mountain paths. I initially built and finished this for the HoM Challenge, but real life happened and simply never had time to photograph anything. In building it I wanted to try out different towers mashed into one castle. It's also my first real big castle moc, and my first round tower as well. Also wanted to play around with using wargs as beasts of burden. Couldn't have done it without all the inspiration and insights gained from all the great builders here in GoH and Eurobricks in general, so thanks to all. Sigfig Nivre can be seen in the white hood, and there are a few more pictures on my Flickr stream. Comments and criticisms more than welcome as usual. Also - Tall dwarves. They're a thing now. Precedence set by Ecc, thanks bud.
  25. With the chaos brought on by the end of the Revolword War and the Nocturnan Civil War, Historica remains on edge. Recent actions by Kaliphlin and Mitgardian Privateers and sea forces have led to a stand off between the once great allies. Both sides have begun repairing their old ships, and building new vessels for what some see as an inevitable endgame: WAR! The Challenge: Build a ship for your side. It should fit into either one of the following categories: Warship or Merchant Marine. Warship - These are ships designed for war -- fighting platforms, privateer or corsairs, Medieval pirate ships, war cogs, early war caravels, galleys, biremes, triremes, etc... Merchant Marine - These would be ships that primarily engage in trade, but have a means of defending themselves. In a pinch they could be called into a naval battle. A caveat -- Guns, and cannon even more so, are quite rare in Historica. They also are dangerous on a ship because of their instability. A ship probably would not carry a cannon during this period, and if it did, most likely no more than one. You should also take into consideration that medieval ships looked fairly different from the ships of the pirate era. So even though Historica is a fantasy world, we still would like to see at least a certain degree of historical accuracy. (Think Game of Thrones) A summary about ship building in the Middle Ages can be found here. Prizes: New tags have been created for the winners. Titles: The member of each side with the best warship (decided by judges) will gain the title Admiral of (Guild) Fleet. The runner up will become a Vice Admiral, and the third place will become a Rear Admiral. She/he with the best Merchant Marine ship will become Admiral of the Marine. (titles subject to change). The Contest will last until 5/31/14 anywhere in the world. The winning side will be determined by a vote amongst Avalonian and Nocturnan members of GoH. For Avalonian and Nocturnan folks -- The contest for you is similar. With your neighbors arming themselves, now is the time to prepare your own fleets! Who knows what may happen tomorrow. Avalonian Categories: Ship of the Isles - These are light and fast ships, meant to protect the many small channels in between each of the hundreds of islands that make up the region. They sometimes participate in trade, but their main duty is to cruise the channels looking for illegal activities and protecting the peoples of the region. Warship - See Above. Nocturnan Categories: Swamp Boat - Powered by oars, slaves, undead propellers, the souls of children, etc... these small crafts are used in the many swamps of Nocturnus. When the local lords fight, often pitched naval battles happen in the desolate swamps of the region. Warship - see above Prizes: TBA Titles: TBA Kaliphlin and Mitgaridan members will decide which side won between the two of your guilds. ------ All builds should have their own thread, along with a post in this thread with a link to the dedicated thread. All threads should be titled with a [GNAR] in the front of the title. IE: [GNAR] The SS Minnow.
