  1. It’s that time of year again: time for Oktoberfest! The annual BoBS Oktoberfest celebration features food and drink, contests of skill, games and amusements, traditional/historical costumes, food and drink (did we mention food and drink?), and more! The Oktoberfest celebration again takes place in the Eslandolan settlement of Punto Sur on Maldria in the New Haven Sea. The settlement has grown from a frontier outpost to one of the largest towns in the New Haven Sea, bustling with denizens from all the factions of the Brick Seas. As you can tell from Punto Sur’s original trading post (and the cast of characters pictured above), the town has a Classic Pirates aesthetic. As such, all entries should have a Classic Pirates vibe of some sort, and appear fitting with a Classic Pirates port town, either in traditional 1989 form or updated for 2022 style and techniques. Rules: Your entry should show an Oktoberfest activity in Punto Sur appropriate for the island setting. Show residents and/or visitors preparing for or taking part in the festivities. Entries must be licensable properties. Players may submit as many entries as they want, but may only win one prize per category. In addition to posting your entry in the forum (ideally with a [OKT] tag in the title), please post a link to your build in this thread and in the Punto Sur settlement thread. Entries must be posted by October 31. Categories: This year prizes will be awarded for all non-military property types: Artisan, Commerce, Factories, Residence, Art/Culture, Education, Plantations, and Mines (it is rumored that an ancient civilization once worked numerous rich gold mines on this island and that these mines could be reactivated with minimal effort). Identify what category you’re entering when you post your entry. Entries will be judged on presentation, quality of build, story, fit with Punto Sur’s architectural style (Classic Pirate, both retro and modern), and fit with the Oktoberfest/festival theme. The only size requirement is a 16x16 minimum. Additionally, anyone interested in building a military property should contact Capt Wolf by PM for special consideration. Prizes: The top entry in each category will win a free small property license, to be activated by microbuild. The top three entries in each category will win 75, 50, or 25 DBs (for 1st/2nd/3rd place). There will also be an additional prize for best non-brewery factory entry. A grand prize winner and runner-up for Best of the Oktoberfest will have their free license upgraded to a large and medium, respectively. Builders will also be reimbursed for licensing costs for any property licensed through the EGS, or Capt Wolf will purchase (at 2x the license cost) any property a builder does not wish to license.

Categories: There are three categories this year: Factories, Commerce, and All Other property types (Artisan, Residence, Education, and Culture properties combined). Examples of factories include mills, breweries, bakeries, and other food processing facilities; examples of commerce properties include warehouses, merchant offices, banks, and lighthouses. Identify what category you’re entering when you post your entry. Entries will be judged on presentation, quality of build, story, fit with Punto Sur’s architectural style (Classic Pirate, both retro and modern), and fit with the Oktoberfest/festival theme. Winners announced here.
  3. Another year, another Oktoberfest! There is lots of hustle and bustle on the quayside of Punto Sur - not all of it going as planned. For some, things go well, with tasty sausage-in-a-bun... ... while for some the spilled beer comes not from their glas, but from a broken barrel! Behind the poor soul feeding the harbour fish with some Oktoberfest beer comes along Otto Grim on his way to his small barrel-maker factory. Quiet in disbelief of the scene he mutters to himself: "Shoddy foreigners work for sure! None of this would have happened with any of the fine barrels of mine. All that wasted beer, a shame!" In front of the Elementary School two other locals were oblivious to the commotion, obviously already thinking of another upcoming festivity. Happy Halloween! Some old sault - wearing his finest classical hat - watched them with mild irritation, not at all impressed by these newfangled customs: None of this mattered to the other workers on the pier, who just hoped that not all beer was out once they had finished their job: ================================================================ This thread, as well as its follow-ups (see below) are my entries for the 2022 Oktoberfest mini-challenge. First two more pictures of the scene in its entirety: This display splits up into three seperate build. They all share a common story, but not everything is shown here - so check them out: Otto Grim, Barrel Maker Punto Sur Elementary School Punto Sur Quayside They all feature design elements I associate with the classic Lego Pirates from the 1990s, namely the use of white, yellow and red on grey underground - as seen with the Imperial Trading Post: The mix of classic Lego Pirates with newer minifigs is also intentional, to go with the mini-challenge theme. The three follow-up threads are meant for the ease of licensing. There you can also see more details of the build(s). As always, comments and criticism are welcome!
  4. Traditionally seen, the last day is always the most busy day of Oktoberfest. People are gathering one last time before the month ends. During the recent stay of troops in Punto Sur, officers ordered construction of a MAESTRO office to oversee trade on the island of Maldria. The troops have been sent to Seawatch to remove the Lotii blockade over there. Oktoberfest was for MAESTRO always the best month as sales of their Apple Ciders and Wines go through the skies. So also this last day of Oktoberfest, the MAESTRO office opened it doors once again so everyone could enjoy a nice glass of Apple Cider. --- OC --- Will be licenced as small commerce 2 months ago I visited Cartagena in Colombia, which is a must-see for everyone here (just keep your own safety always in mind). Inspired by those colourfull houses and wooden balconies I was very eager to try to build it myself. The balcony on this MOC is an exact copy of one of the balconies I saw there. Together with the greenstuff and the streetlamp, I think I succesfully catched the atmosphere of the house I used as inspiration. Something I discoverd there (well, I never thought of it before), is that there is no sewer in those old Colonial cities (at least not in Cartagena). So hence the stone doorstep to make sure there won't get water inside the house after a very rainy day (rain just stays on the street in big pools). It was fun using the HP wands in the balcony and the bar 1L with clip Mechanical claws for the streetlight (put in a 2x2 inverted round dome slider) @Ayrlego: I might have taken a few looks on how you did your corners in your roofs Enjoy and thanks for C&C
  5. It was close to three in the afternoon - school was almost out! The youngsters were eager to get to the Oktoberfest, grabbing some food, having some fun. Yet Mrs. Litherthon, teacher of Punto Surs elementary school, had some things to do before letting the kids go today. "Alright, we are almost done for today. Jonathan, I can already see your parents waiting in front of the school. If everybody would now please hand in their assignment from last week. You remember: two pages on a local animal of your choice. I will collect the papers now." "Matthew, what is it? Oh I can not believe it! You forgot your homework again? Well, I guess this means some overtime for the two of us, you will write your two pages now. For everybody else: I wish you a good day, have fun and take care!" ================================================================ This thread builds on the story in my "main '22 Oktoberfest thread" and features my entry for the "all other property types" category for the 2022 Oktoberfest mini-challenge. The build is licensed as a small education property in Punto Sur. Some more pictures: As always, comments and criticism are welcome!
  6. Otto Grim was a barrel-maker in the third generation. He took great pride in his work, so when he had to witness some kerfuffle around a broken barrel, he came into his home and factory quite a bit agitated. "Son, listen. I just had to watch some shabby foreign barrel break and spill good beer. If only they had used some of my barrels!" "I have not yet told you everything you need to know to take over one day. You better do a good job, or somebody else might take over around here. But not today! You see, each barrel needs love - and love is given by the hammer! So now help your old man with this one..." ================================================================ This thread builds on the story in my "main '22 Oktoberfest thread" and features my entry for the "factory" category for the 2022 Oktoberfest mini-challenge. The build is licensed as a small factory property in Punto Sur. Some more pictures: Only now while posting did I notice the front roof had slipped a bit between shots. The other thread has it "correct": As always, comments and criticism are welcome!
  7. This thread builds on the story in my "main '22 Oktoberfest thread" and features my entry for the "commerce" category for the 2022 Oktoberfest mini-challenge. The build is licensed as a small commerce property in Punto Sur. There is no more story for this one, just additional pictures of the build on its own: As always, comments and criticism are welcome!
  8. It's that time of year again: time for Oktoberfest! The annual BoBS Oktoberfest celebration features food and drink, contests of skill, games and amusements, traditional/historical costumes, food and drink (did we mention food and drink?), and more! As such, all entries should have a Classic Pirates vibe of some sort, and appear fitting with a Classic Pirates port town, either in traditional 1989 form or updated for 2021 style and techniques. This year also poses a question: Where do all those partying minifigs live? We always see the visiting sailors who are ready for shore leave, but what about the locals -- the merchants and craftsmen and dock hands and fishermen? Do they live in rustic rural homes, colorful urban row houses, sprawling tropical villas, or something else? Rules: Your entry should show an Oktoberfest activity in Punto Sur, with an emphasis on the permanent residents of such a growing colonial outpost. Show residents taking part in the festivities while making a new home for themselves in the islands. Entries must be licensable properties. Players may submit as many entries as they want, but may only win one prize per category. In addition to posting your entry in the forum (ideally with a [OKT] tag in the title), please post a link to your build in this thread and in the Punto Sur settlement thread. Builders will also be reimbursed for licensing costs for any property licensed through the EGS, or Capt Wolf will purchase (at 2x the license cost) any property a builder does not wish to license.
  9. Isabela Montegro had grown up in an Eslandolan castle surrounded by old suits of armor. Her family's history stretched back nearly a thousand years in that part of Eslandola. As a young girl she had loved listening to her father tell stories of chivalrous knights and proud kings. Now the proud wife of merchant Javier Montegro, Isabela lived in the Eslandolan settlement of Punto Sur. In order to bring a smile to her face, her husband had built their new home to look like a miniature castle. On gorgeous summer days they would sip brandy on the roof parapets. To celebrate Oktoberfest, the Montegros sponsored a local joust! Two stablehands volunteered to be the knights and the Montegros provided blunt wooden lances and suits of armor. The dragons were pitted against the lions, and much of the town came to cheer on the spectacle! --------------------- OOC: My submission to the Oktoberfest 621 competition. I may have mistaken 'Classic' in the competition description for Classic Castle To be licensed as a medium residence in Punto Sur
  10. As Ignacio took the last swig from his stein, he rushed to catch up to his friend Paolo. They'd been at the new Ayuntamiento enjoying themselves, but had decided to head for home. Ignacio had just finished his fourth stein and he was starting to feel it. "Hold up! I'm out!" He heard something rustle in the bushes off to the right. ----------------- OOC: This isn't for the competition, I just thought it would be fun We have houseguests at the moment and I haven't had a chance to start my entry yet but figured I could do something small. Finally got some of the 3x3 macaroni tiles and it is so satisfying to nest them between the 4x4 and 2x2 macaronis!
  11. At the height of Oktoberfest, things sometimes can get... a little out of hand. It is unclear if this was a "pirate raid" or "fest shenanigans," but in either case the damage was light, easily repaired, and all involved were drunk. Right after the fest tents cleared out for the night, a mob/band/party of sailors/fest goers passed the brewery on their way home. Deciding that in fact, they had not had enough to drink, they broke in and helped themselves. Morning found them still hard at work trying to drink the place dry. Yes, the normally tranquil factory, using the rich soil along the creek to grow their own hops, a picturesque place to work. Normally, alive with clockwork precision, particularly gearing up towards the high demand of fest season. The factory had been at max capacity for weeks, filling the racks with kegs for the Punto Sur festivities. But, tor the last 24 hours has been more like the fest tents on the tail end than the brewery on the front one. One report included drunken sailors trying to "cut out the middle men" and gorging themselves off half-ripe hops, straight off the vine... probably the best thing for them, they had probably had enough by that point anyway. Luckily, it appears that the most substantial costs of the whole event was the astonishing cut to the breweries inventory. The owners have claimed that even accounting for what was clearly spilled, the amount of beer consumed by the wayward sailors was, "absurd!" Though the demand is certainly high enough for their product, this temporary transfer of ownership has prompted the owner to consider selling this money maker to set up shop in a line of work with less on the job hazards.
  12. Welcome to the Punto Sur Biergarten, the location of choice for all your Oktoberfest celebrations. Drinks, food, music.....we have it all! Come in, sit down, grab a pint with your mates, and partake in all the mouthwatering morsels our kitchen prepares. Steak, brätwurst, turkey legs, laugenbrezeln, biscuits...all of our food is prepared by our owners (the Schroeder family). And to wet your whistle, we pour only the finest brews and beverages from throughout the New Haven Sea, highlighted by our home-brewed keg of Dastardly Dirk's Doppelbock. For entertainment, our very own band Das Tuba commands the stage, performing some of their hit songs "Punto Sur State of Mind", "Tubaback", and "Twilight of the Beer Gods". Set aside your worries, grievances, faction rivalries (unless someone insults your mother, then fisticuffs are permitted....as appears to be the case between a few inebriated soldiers ). Enjoy the company of friends and strangers alike, stuff your bellies, drink 'til you can't see straight, plan your next move on Terraversa, and enjoy this glorious Oktoberfest season. Once you enter our gates, you'll never want to leave! Front gate: Overall View: The Kitchen: Stage Area & Tables The Bar Area A giddy Sea Rat looks on in glee as two drunken soldiers settle their dispute with some fisticuffs. Also, a hook makes for a great sausage utensil over the hot grill To be Licensed as a Large Artisan in Punto Sur. ____________________________________________________________ I did not plan on doing a digital build for the Oktoberfest challenge, but at the beginning of the month, I started a new job, and for my first two weeks I am training at a location a few hours from home, so I am away from my bricks. However, being away from home with nothing but work occupying my day, I have plenty of time to mess around on Stud.io, so I decided to go all in for the contest. I did my best to capture the colors and style set by @Capt Wolf in his trading post build, while incorporating both classic and modern Pirates elements. I also threw in some Oktoberfest flair (at least what Google tells me its looks like, don't hang me if its wrong ), and a variety of characters seen in the BoBS universe. I spent waaaayyyy too much time on this, but it was a blast creating the scene, and a challenge to translate some techniques to digital building. Enjoy!
  13. To celebrate the opening of the new agency in Punto Sur, Seawolf Shipping Company employees are handing out free beers for everyone. Luckily a boat with 5 more barrels just arrived. Licensed as a small commerce property
  14. Many are visiting Punto Sur this year, to drink, dance and have fun. But to keep the revelers entertained, Punto Sur inhabitants put on shows or street performances. Many shows are put on, for example this one, the tale of Captain White Feather. Crowds gather to watch the tale be told, as the makeshift ship rocks from this way to that, with cast members holding up masts and Captain White Feather steering the ship, in search of the greatest reward on all the Brick Seas...... Treasure. Although very much different, Punto Sur's Street performances all have one thing in common - they are all payed by the highest bidder to advertise their drink of choice.
  15. It's that time of year again: time to pay a visit to the Weelond Oktoberfest! Weelond’s annual Oktoberfest celebration features food and drink, contests of skill, games and amusements, traditional/historical costumes, food and drink (did we mention food and drink?), and more. So regardless of where you’re from, come to Weelond and have some fun! Rules: Your entry should showcase an activity at the Weelond Oktoberfest, and this year's emphasis is on characters and stories. Introduce us to an interesting character at the Oktoberfest or the story of your character taking part in the festivities. Sample activities at this year's Oktoberfest include keg tapping, keg tossing, stein hoisting, pretzel and sausage eating, log sawing, musket shooting, equestrian competition, musical bands, dancing, arts and crafts, pumpkin painting, and costume contests, as well as the usual assortment of butchers and brewers selling their wares. In addition to posting your entry in the forum (ideally with a [W-OKT] tag in the title), please post a link to your build in this thread and in the Weelond settlement thread. Entries must be posted by October 28. Categories: Categories are Characters, Stories, Events, and Structures. Identify what category you're entering when you post your entry. Category definitions are loose; just pick what makes sense for your build. Entries will be judged on presentation, quality of build, story, fit with Weelond's architectural style, and fit with the Oktoberfest/festival theme. The only size requirement is an 8x8 minimum. Prizes: The top three entries in each category will earn 100DBs for 1st place, 50DBs for 2nd, and 25DBs for 3rd. An additional 100/50/25 DBs will be awarded to the overall best three entries. Weelond will also reimburse the builder for licensing costs for any property entry licensed through the EGS. Weelond also offers to purchase (at 3x the license cost) any licensable property a builder does not wish to license.
  16. Doldrums may have becalmed the seas of late, but as the soccer tournament begins in Bastion, what better way to celebrate than to pay a visit to the Weelond Oktoberfest! Weelond’s annual Oktoberfest celebration features food and drink, contests of skill, games and amusements, traditional/historical costumes, food and drink (did we mention food and drink?), and more. So regardless of where you’re from, come to Weelond and have some fun! Rules: Your entry should be at least 16x16 and showcase an activity at the Weelond Oktoberfest. This can be a pub scene, a brewer or vendor at work or hosting visitors, stage performances, contests of skill, festivities on the market green, or whatever you can imagine, as long as the build illustrates festival activity at the Weelond Oktoberfest. In addition to posting your entry in the forum (ideally with a [W-OKT] tag in the title), please post a link to your build in this thread and in the Weelond settlement thread. Entries must be posted by October 31. Prizes: Each entry will receive 10DBs, and you can enter as many times as you want. Entries will be judged on presentation, quality of build, story, fit with Weelond's architectural style, and fit with the Oktoberfest/festival theme. The overall top three entries will earn 150DBs for 1st place, 100DBs for 2nd, and 50DBs for 3rd. An additional 50DBs will be awarded to the best licensable build in each of the following property categories: artrisan, commerce, factory, and residence. Also, 50DBs will be awarded to the best shipboard entry -- because fishermen and sailors party on the water as well as the land! Weelond will reimburse the builder for licensing costs for any property entry licensed through the EGS. Weelond also offers to purchase (at 3x the license cost) any property a builder does not wish to license.
  17. Our Sea Rats built an amazingly fun game for Weelond's Oktoberfest. The rules are quite simple. Drink as much fine bruhaha beverages as you can and a bit more. Then proceed to the rat maze. Once inside the rat maze, collect all the silver coins that you can while avoiding the ghosts. It's game over if the ghost slashes you. It's fun to watch but you don't get rich watching. 18. Oktoberfest confessional booth by Ross Fisher, on Flickr Padré Verroc, Temple of Zeus Mission, Breshaun Brother Verroc, I know you and I have had our differences - you've always been more of a carrot man, I prefer the stick - but I have a request, and I believe you're the only man who can help me. It's this damn "Oktoberfest" that's causing me concern. Drinking, debauchery, gambling, carousing, cavorting; this whole event is exactly the kind of behaviour that we came to Terra Nova to stamp out! Sure, we might expect this sort of thing from Sea Rats and Eslandolans, but I have it on good information that our own countrymen will be attending this festival. We must do what we can to reestablish the preeminence of the Faith in their hearts. I believe that a confessional booth in the town square might be an appropriate response. Let them know that the gods are always listening. I'm asking you to attend in my place since I have unfinished business here on the Île Zeus. I pray this missive finds you well. Padré François PS. Our betters require you to keep a detailed record of every confession you take, with names, transgressions and details recorded. If you pass them on to me, I will ensure they reach the right people.
  19. Well it is that time of the year again - the festivities in Weelond are in full swing!!! Schoolmaster Elliot from the 'Red School' takes some of his current pupils out into the streets to witness some of the festivities (and warn against excessive drinking....) There are many sights to see, staff from the nearby tavern deliver beverages to the revellers. A street performer from a far away land charms a deady cobra with his flute playing, a baker sells loafs of fresh bread and some Eslandolan musketeers keep order in the streets. -------- Able to be licensed as a medium property - could be either commercial or artisan... @Capt Wolf let me know which you prefer for Weelond's development!
  20. Location: Weelond Type: Small Artisan Weelond stopover by North White, on Flickr The Crew of the WTC wandered the streets of the festive Weelond, home of the Oktoberfest. Brought about by some ancient tradition, minifigs from around the world traveled to Weelond to eat Pretzels, and get hopelessly drunk. Street venders sold all sorts of goods, But several members of the WTC found refuge on the roof of the bar their beloved leader was visiting. Weelond stopover by North White, on Flickr "Look, I know you're holding back. You were there, you can tell me what happened. So tell me what happened, Fatsidro." Said the Count Angrily. "I've alheady told you evyhing I know." Said Isidro, visibly annoyed. "I met you hih as a couhtisy." Said Isidro "What else do you know about the group? Even a Pawn knows somewhat of what's going on." Asked the Count Weelond stopover by North White, on Flickr "Not much I just was hihed to hihe a guy who hihed Thaum. I know not even theh name. But it is they who dehstoyed the Wolf's Blood." "And?" "If you come afta them, they will dehstoy you as well." He checked the scene nervously. "And they have eyes and eahs evhywhehe." Weelond stopover by North White, on Flickr "Well, if they can hear me, then I say bring it!" Said the Count FIN Thanks for viewing my oktoberfest entry. I don't think I emanated the Dutch style well enough but whatever. It used all my colourful bricks. C&C Appreciated
  21. Just playing with a modular platform that allows for various arrangements of a scene, in this case an Oktoberfest interior scene that allows for various display options. Happy Oktoberfest! Miro
