    [Free Build] Elf Delve

Elf Delve Neddi was an elf who loved the sunlight and the soil. She tended to her garden with care and joy, using her knowledge of herbs and plants to create potions and remedies. But lately, her plants had been wilting and dying, afflicted by a mysterious blight. The only cure, she learned, was a rare ingredient: the luminaria fungus, a glowing organism that thrived in the darkest depths of the Nyx caves. Reluctantly, she agreed to venture into the underground realm, accompanied by her two acquaintances: Rhalyf, a curious wanderer from the south, and Folgaen, a clever and daring warrior. They made their way through the winding tunnels, facing dangers and wonders along the way. They reached a large cavern, where a small lake shimmered under the light of crystals. A water wheel turned slowly, powering a broken chain of gears. A wooden bridge spanned the lake, leading to a door on the other side. Folgaen was the first to cross the bridge, confident and curious. He stepped lightly on the planks, humming a tune. But halfway across, he heard a loud crack. He looked down and saw one of the boards break under his feet. As Folgaen falls towards the water, you hear him scream and see him grab the rope. You also see something else: a pair of yellow eyes emerging from the depths. Roll for initiative.

    A Lumbering Process

A Lumbering Process Loggers, Sawmiller and Shieldsmiths In this MOC, a trio of scenes showcases the process of transforming trees into shields in medieval times. These workers are from the town of Batuhan, in northern Kaliphlin. Loggers The first vignette shows loggers at work. Two are using their axes to chop down a linden tree. Linden wood (or basswood) is light and easy to work with making it a great for shieldsmithing. A third man guides a horse pull along a felled tree. Sawmiller Logged trees make their way to the sawmill shown in the second scene. The water wheel powers the saw blades reducing the amount of manual effort needed to create lumber from logs. A sawmiller pushed the tree through the machine. At the other end, lumber falls into a cart (not shown) to be taken to the lumberyard or carpenters. Shieldsmiths Shieldsmiths take the linden lumber planks and cut them to the right shape and then plane them. The carpenter (center) uses a cabinet scraper to further smooth the wood surface. The blacksmith (right) hammers out an iron band to reinforce the shield. A painter (left) applies heraldry to a fully constructed shield.
  4. As I marched north of Qarkyr, Rhalyf wrote after the ordeal was over, the wind obstructed my path. The beginnings of a sand storm hit with no warning. Before I could find shelter, the road was obstructed from me. Within a matter of minutes, I was off my path and into the Parched Lands, Rhalyf continued. Just as unexpectedly as it started, the storm subsided, leaving me bewildered but well. I made my way north, intending on finding the road without delay, but the hills and the sand guided me ever so westward. I was obliged to this direction. I soon saw I was not ambling aimlessly, but rather a stone dais lay before me. I knew avoiding this henge in the desert would be in vain, so I approached it, prepared as one can, for what might be. “Lay down your staff!” a voice said from the stone platform as I ascended. I sized up the sorcerer I saw before me. So, this was the reason for my divergent course. I kept quiet, waiting my time. “I will not ask again, Rhalyf,” the wizard said. Still, I watched. Unconcerned he knew me, though I not him. Without additional warning, he cast a binding spell. I met the spell and withstood it, but still he persisted. “Cease your assault!” I commanded. My words went unheeded. As I gathered my strength to throw off this spell, the very stone beneath us tremored and glowed, the same evil as this sorcerer’s spell. “Enough!” I cried as I pressed back. I heard a crack and saw the dark figure fall. At the same time, the sand storm returned enveloping the stone henge, soon blocking everything from sight. When the storm subsided again, I was alone in the desert again. No trace of the stone platform or the sorcerer. This is my “Wizards Duel” entry into the Colossal Castle Contest 2020 (CCC XVIII) as well as LOLUG’s December competition. The challenge prompt did not provide a setting, leaving it wide open. The first concrete idea I had was a magical henge. Lighting seemed like the best way to convey a sense of magic to the environment and I went with trans-neon green. I am happy with the way the pillars came out, but was hoping the lighting in the floor would have been brighter and more uniform. The round edge of the stone platform uses the standard 1x3 brick and 1x1 round brick technique. The center/floor is made up of various slope pieces, tiles and plates, many not connected, but just laying there. For the sand, I borrowed Blake Foster’s technique from his amazing M:Tron Magnet Factory. Comments and criticism welcome. I'm submitting this for Petraea University's General Building (Other Techniques) -> Lighted Builds Website | Flickr | YouTube
  5. A gang of thieves chases Nikou upon discovering her theft of an emerald gem. She leads them into a busy market square where she finds herself trapped between the gang on one side and the town guard on the other. Scaling a statue at the center of the square gives her brief reprieve from her would-be captors. As the walls close in around her, Nikou makes an acrobatic leap over the head of one of the guards leaving the gang and the guards to sort themselves out. This was going to be the second of three scenes for the Just Another "Normal" Day category of the Summer Joust competition, but my partner was unable to complete their portions. Though not mentioned in the story, it takes place in Petraea. I am also submitting this for the Doctorate of Historica for the following two qualifications: General Building → minifig posing Anthropology → life in Kaliphlin

    Buğra Quarry

Mining in Buğra Quarry has been busy since filling the collapsed tunnel. The dwarves are behind in filling quotas for the villages and settlements to the south, especially the wall at Batuhan. The pay is incomparable and has brought workers from across the continent. The Buğra Quarry is my third entry into the Summer Joust 2020 contest as well as LOLUG’s July contest. The theme for both was “tri-color”. The MOC came out a bit larger than I had anticipated. It has at between 8,000 and 10,000 pieces. It felt a bit like I was just spraying down parts at some points while trying to keep the rockwork varied and interesting. I had been planning a quarry MOC for a few months as a source for all the stone used in an ongoing MOC. You can see a preview of it here and here; I am working on expanding it and will post pictures on my website when I get it done. I’m also submitting this MOC for review in the University of Petraeas Doctorate of Historica Program under the following category: Landscape Design → Studs up rocks and cliffs Website | Flickr | YouTube
  7. After spending the better part of the season up north in Mitgardia, Rhalyf heads south looking forward to warmer Kaliphlinian temperatures. The beauty of the frozen lake and snow covered trees unnoticed as the cold wind whirls past. This MOC is my entry into the Frozen North category of the Summer Joust 2020 competition. I’m also submitting this MOC for review in the University of Petraeas Doctorate of Historica Program under the following category Landscape Design → Snow and Ice Website | Flickr | YouTube

    Pizza to Go

Hungry upon entering Batuhan, Rhaylf began looking for a tavern and a warm meal. Before he could get to the center of town, his nose lead him off the main road. “Traveler! Try some pizza.” Noè the proprietor shouted from a counter window. “Pizza?” Rhalyf replied, “I have not heard of such pastry, but its smell is agreeable." “Ay, it is recipe from my homeland, Varlyrio,” Noè explained. “My wife, Melitina, makes the dough and bakes it in the oven, fresh. My son, Federico, even makes deliveries - mostly to the on-duty guards who cannot leave their post over the noon hour. We have made a good life in the three years since we left Illaryian; as Batuhan as grown, so has our business." Rhalyf laid down some coin and enjoyed some pizza before heading on his way. I built this MOC for the Summer Joust 2020’s Every Set Could be a Castle Set category. It is based off of set 6350 Pizza To Go. For a write up of techniques including tutorials and inspiration, see this post. I’m also submitting this MOC for review in the University of Petraeas Doctorate of Historica Program under the following category: Architecture → walls #1 (Tudor) Website | Flickr | YouTube
  9. It has been three days since we were run off the road into the Wither Woods. I can see why our Rego was apprehensive on getting involved on the continent. What should have been a simple trip to the Avalonian capital has turned into a slaughter in the dark inside these woods. Death lurks in these trees. My contingent of solders has all but vanished and I know it is not cowardice or desertion. I fear if I fall asleep, I may never wake, but I have not slept since we were attacked on that first night; I can fight it back no longer. We’ve situated camp on this crag over a stream; we will be safe on two sides, at least. Hirbod has the first watch. May his eyes, and ears, not fail us tonight. -Sicuro Off-Course in the Wither Woods After weeks of no word from Sicuro or the contingent of men he led to Avalonia, rumor made its way to the Rego of Varlyrio. This whisper was enough to convince his minster of War and himself that isolation from the continent was prudent. Varlyrio would not send troops to the Battle of Historica. ------------------- This is my entry into the Guilds of Historica Book III Challenge V: Category A (which takes place in Book II). This lost diary entry explains what happened to the contingent of troops sent by the Rego of Varlyrio. Their disappearance solidifies his view that Varlyrio should stay out of the distant war. A bonus image of the MOC can be seen below. It features full lighting and and an aerial view. Aerial View I’m also submitting this MOC for review in the University of Petraeas Doctorate of Historica Program under the following two categories: Landscape Design → trees #1 Geography → forests The coniferous trees follow Katie Walker’s design while the odd-angled branched ones are based on Legopard’s Design. I found both by following this Brickbuilt Tutorial. Website | Flickr | YouTube

    [UoP DoH] Medieval House

It's been a while since I posted my last MOC, I've been busy with exams and figuring out some photography stuff. I've been working on a pretty generic medieval house, mostly to try out some techniques and just get some practice building in general. I'd like to submit this build to the University of Petraea, but since it's not really related to the Guilds I thought I'd post it here. The categories I'd like to submit in are Roofing, Roof Rakes and Interior Design. Now on to the build: A general shot of the front. I intended to plate up the roof, but the interior floors ate all my brown plates... Other shots of the exterior, also focusing on the rakes. I also tried timber framing on the upper floor. The interior, featuring a bookcase, desk, bed, table and larder. Critique and tips are appreciated, this has really been a learning thing Arcturus
  11. Not long after Zeno had begun his Grand Tour to discover and describe all remains of the civilisation of the ancient Ulandians he stumbled upon his first find. Not far from home, directly next to a small path in the woods stood one lonely column. It seemed to mock the flow of time with its refusal to succumb to the forces of nature like the rest of the structure it once undoubtetly belonged to and from which no trace was to be seen. Zeno took off his backpack and placed it carefully against a rock. Then he searched for a piece of parchment, his quill and some ink. Successfully having found all things necessary he could start to document the site and all visible structures. Upon further inspection the lonely column was actually not as lonely as presumed. In short distance behind it there was a second column, albeit in much worse condition. Only a short stump was still in place. Single column drums lay, nearly complety hidden by foliage, in a straight line next to it. Without any doubt these once formed a column similar to the other. What they once supported Zeno couldn't determine because even carefully searching the vicinity he didn't find any traces of bigger structures. He only found some small fragments of a pavement made of large marble slabs around to two columns. From what he had learnt about architecture these scarce finds were not enough to draw a conclusion about the building which they once belonged to. But the precious material of the pavement and likewise the columns - marble - spoke of a more exquisite context. Maybe a villa of some noble family or even a small temple. Zeno carefully put his documentation is his backpack, gathered all his belongings and left to continue his adventure, now, after this first great find, even more motivated. I'd like to get UoP credit for - trees (1/3) - flowers and dense foliage landscaping Also I apologize for the bad image quality. This beeing my first MoC I didn't have a proper backdrop for photographing available and therefore had to make use of Photoshop to get a white background.
  12. This build is for HSS Hospitality - Lodging - Inn. ---------- At the Blue Dolphin Inn of Ruadh, the mood is dark. The oppression of the Desert King is all anyone talks about. Downstairs, the proprietress constantly monitors for DK spies while guests enjoy the firepit and the bathing rooms. Upstairs, two prostitutes gossip outside the private rooms while waiting for evening clients. In the cheaper shared room, two Kaliphlinites relate their run-ins with the DK. The bathing room might be a place to cleanse and relax, but it is also a place to plot resistance. ---------- A recent trip to Japan inspired a lot of this build, including many of the interior details, like the futon beds, cushions, fireplace, and bathing rooms. The exterior loosely references Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion). The round tile wall technique is inspired by NiceMarmot, and JacobNion was an influence for the rough walls. I'd like to claim UoP credit for: Architecture: Wall Techniques (for the round tile walls) General Building: Interior Design Anthropology: Village Life
  13. Previously: Part 6 - New Loyalties As Malek walks along the Kaliphlin coast, he looks around. It's been a while -- since before the war -- since he's been truly alone, without soldiers, without refugees, without the ugliness of war and its aftermath. Feeling the glorious Kaliphlin sun beating down on him, he takes another quick look around, then strips down to his bandages to enjoy the warmth on his ancient desiccated bones. Pulling a bottle of pine resin the Murphys had thoughtfully packed in his bag, he takes a swig, savoring the preservative soaking him from the inside. Malek couldn't stop thinking about his last encounter with his old Desert King friend. Malek had always considered himself a good and loyal servant of the Desert King, but somehow, he had found himself attacked by his own people, and defended by those he once considered enemies. The Kaliphlin people, High Council loyalists, had repeatedly shown more compassion and integrity than the Desert King. While it shocked Malek that, in the heat of the moment, he had actually uttered the words, "My loyalty is to the rightful rulers of Kaliphlin!", it somehow felt like the right thing to do. He had a lot of thinking to do, Malek thought, warm and drowsy in the warm heat of the sun. --------------- Notes: This build was inspired by the coastal dunes of South Texas, like those near Corpus Christi and Padre Island. The base consists of old Belville light yellow pieces. The tan and "medium tan" grasses are from Altbricks. I'd like to claim UoP credit for: Anthropology: Countryside Scene Landscape Design: Sand Dunes As always, comments and constructive criticism are very welcome!
  14. Previously: Part 4 - A Dangerous Twist When The Lady brought Malek to the Murphy house, the mummy eyed the mercenary couple dubiously. With their rough leather clothing and shaved heads, the Murphys looked rather disreputable. Hell, Mrs. Murphy even had an eye-patch! "Don't worry, Malek, they're smarter and nicer than they look, but just as tough. The Murphys will keep you safe. They're some of Kaliphlin's finest." ----- "What's the meaning of this? How dare you break into my home with swords drawn?" Murphy shouted. "Where's the traitor?!? We know he's hiding here!" The Desert King guard responded. "What traitor? Hiding where? Are you kidding me? Do you see this place? Where do you think we could possibly be hiding anyone?" The mummy guards harrumph, clearly disconcerted. "We had good intelligence he was here. Well . . . " They quietly left. A few minutes later . . . "The coast is clear, Malek! Let me give you a hand." Malek shivered. "That was the worst, coldest, dampest place I can remember! And this is a DRY well!" "Yeah, sorry 'bout that," said Murphy. "But no one would look for a mummy in the old well! C'mon, the wife has a bottle of pine resin the warm you up." "Oh! How thoughful! Y'all have been so kind to me!" ------ I'd like to claim UoP credit for Architecture: Wall Techniques: 1x1 Round Plate Walls. Comments and constructive criticism are always welcome!

    Path to Redemption

"By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes." Palzipan comes to the border of Avalonia. Palzipan, Healer of wounds, mender of flesh. Born and raised in Nocturnus, Palzipan, once a knight in the Nocturnian army, has come to Avalonia so as to live a simpler life as a healer. While he mainly deals with the art of healing, his is known to dabble in alchemy. A simple life seems not to be for him though, because once in Avalonia his past calls out to him, and he joins the Flight of the Dragons... I'd like to claim UoP DoH credits for the following: -trees -flowers and dense foliage landscaping -forests More pictures on my flickr. C&C welcome. Tell me what's bad, I can take it!
  16. Hi all, With a house move it's been a while since I made anything but finally squeezed in a small Moc. I wanted to try some sort of contrasting landscape so a present: "Fishing" on the Nocturnus Boarder. Husbandry Challenge - Food's scarce but some have found luck finding enough to support themselves by venturing to the boarders. Usually quite risky as the war means that the boarders are a common place for clashes or full out battle and so most people avoid these areas. The offshoot is food is more readily available for those few brave enough or foolish enough to venture out in search of food. You're just as likely to get a sword in the gut as a good meal! I'd like to claim UoP Doctorate credits for: Landscape Design - flowers and dense foliage Agriculture - 'Fishing' Geography - River scene Hydrology - flowing water C&C welcome.
  17. This is the sequel to the history of Alric, son of Balric of the House Drondil, Lord of Dronskeep and Count of Drond's Feelds. For the Doctorate of Historica: see bottom of the post. After a long, long journey trough all of Avalonia, wich I will tell you in another topic with other MOCs, Alric arrives in the village of Dronskeep. Dronskeep lies at feet of the hill on wich Dronskeep; his home, stands. The villagers expected him, cause they received a message of the Trifork telling them all about the return of their Lord. Before the first house of the village sat Aerol, the former smith. He recognised Alric immediatly, and took him to the commander of the Village Guard, Oron. Oron, not a young men, needs his time but finally said: "Welcome, my Lord. We received word of Lady Mariana that we could expect you. I assembled a few of my best men to escort you back to your rightfull home: Dronskeep." After this, the man stood up, took his cloak from a stool and arranged his men to march to the keep. Alric climbing the path to reclaim his keep. After him marches the guard, with Oron holding the banner: green for Avalonia and blue for the village. But when the group reached the keep, there were only Avalonian men celebrating the return of their Lord and placing the green banners of his guild. A serving maid came out of the door, holding some winebottles to refresh the men. After greeting the men awaiting him, Lord Alric retired with Hands, the master of his stables and so one of the most important men in the keep (as the wealth of Drond's Feelds came from their excellent horses) to drink something and conversate, while his men celebrate his return on the ground floor. Alric: "Where's the traitor?" "Only an hour before you arrived, word reached him of your journey and he decided to fly." "That's a pity, i'd like to see his head on a pike..." silence Alric: "I have to ask: how did he die?" "A few weaks before his death, he started complaining about the old wound. He said that the stump of his leg hurted incredible, and you know your father: he didn't complain fast. As time passed, the pain became greater and greater, as did the doses of drugs Gardarron gave him. Till he didn't wake up anymore..." After that, the conversation goes to happier things, like the horses. They were the only ones well treated by Gardarron, as he knew they were his source of wealth. That evening, Alric is in his writing room, sending a letter. "To Lady Mariana. I send you word to pronounce the fall of the traitor, and the rise of my own power. I really need to thank you for you help, cause without the aid of the village guard Gardarron wouldn't have fled. I promise you Dronskeep shall not forget it. To improve our relations further, I propose to sign a free trade treaty between our counties. In one moon, I will stand at our border, at Relan's Creek. I hope I can see your there. I also wanted to know on wich side of the civil war your husband is fighting. Greetings, Lord Alric Drondil, Count of Drond's Feelds." *Ended by the official seal of the house of Drondil, a horse and a wolf-monster figthing each other* After sealing the letter, he binds it to a pigeon and let it fly away. Now all his important tasks are done, he decided it is wiser to go rest, and take a good look at his home the next day. His last thougths before falling asleep are a memory to his childhood, when his father decided when it was time to go sleeping for him. OOC: UoP: DoH: one roofing technique for the wooden roof one wall technique for the latticework rocks and cliffs Thanks for reading all this stuff.
  18. Hi All, This is our (my wife does the writing and I do the building) first story build for my sig-fig Sebastian. For this build I'd like to apply for the following UoP DoH credits: • Architecture - Roofing • Landscape Design - Trees • Agriculture and Zoology - Raising Livestock Story and pictures below. Thanks. A light breeze stirred through the leaves of the trees and a small smile played across the lips of a young boy throwing a ball time after time to his dog, a boundless ball of energy. Neither seemed to tire of the game, but Sebastian’s smile was not born of his enjoyment of the simple game of fetch, but rather of the daydream that he was lost in. In his mind’s eye Sebastian could see himself astride a magnificent white steed, armour gleaming and lance raised as he met the fiery gaze of a dragon with steel in his eyes. The insistent barking of Hugo snapped him back into reality and his shoulders drooped slightly as he took in his surroundings – his father, Tomas and mother, Georgia, hard at work, as they were every day on the farm. Sebastian sighed as he threw the ball once more, wishing as he did every day that his life held more than carrying on the family farm. He yearned with every ounce of his soul to travel to cities beyond his imagining and fight in the grand battles he had heard minstrels tell of. He knew his father had seen many things he did not speak of when he was forced to serve in the army many years before and more than anything he wanted to live a life that held secrets, excitement and danger. He wanted to feel alive. The ball suddenly fell from Hugo’s mouth and one ear cocked as the sound of horse’s hooves could be heard approaching from the distance. Hugo began to dance madly in circles, excited by the prospect of a new playmate and driven half mad by the smell of a strange animal. The family paused in their tasks; riders rarely passed the isolated farmhouse, their appearance usually signifying some emergency. Not this time. It was not a village messenger or a far off neighbour approaching, but a stranger, features and form hidden by a dark green cloak. Sebastian squinted his eyes trying to make out more detail, but the horse cantered past, leaving dust in its wake and Sebastian wondering if he had imagined that long lock of brown hair escaping the hood…
  19. My WZ 5 entry: A weary Desert King soldier guarding an important piece of the desert: ... while the sun is beating down on him ... I would like to claim UoP credits for: Landscape Design - sand dunes Geography - desert ... the lonely guard in the desert... I'm picking D2 as the next WZ if I win.
  20. A little view inside life in Mitgardia while fierce fighting is going on in Kaliphlin... Unbenownst to most men in Mitgardia, coin minting is a core domain of the Mitgardian dwarves. And, before I forget it, I would like to claim UoP credits for: Trade and Law manufacturing Anthropology city scene Now, let us get back to the dwarves: Stage 1: melting of gold: Stage 2: gold is hammered into shape - using modern mechanics. Stage 3: gold is placed upon a belt Stage 4: the actual minting The finished coins are then assembled. Thanks for watching. C&C welcome.
  21. Note to readers: if you're rushed for time, you can skip to the last paragraph. Siedna: Ah, good, we're all here. Council members, as you can see, we're joined today by Lady Akantha, at the invitation of the Alikos elders. Matteus: Okay, let's get straight to business. Ruadh must choose a side in this conflict. Look, I know y'all don't want to get involved, but we may not have a choice in the matter. The best defense is a good offense, right? Euphemios: That my be true in battle, Matteus, but I don't believe it's the best course of action for our community. Siedna: You'd prefer we remain neutral, then? Euphemios: The Tauri of the Alikos are not bloodthirsty like you humans! We wish only to follow our ways in peace. Together with the Atelier, Siedna, we have formed a prosperous and just community. Why would we leave it? Doing so would leave Ruadh exposed, and put us at risk of capture and slavery. Themis: Euphemios, you old coot, you know some of the younger Tauri are restless and eager to see the world, just like you used to be, before your muzzle turned gray. (Turning to Siedna) He's right, though. The Alikos will remain neutral. Siedna: Noted. And what of the merchants, Kristin? Kristin: As Euphemios said, Ruadh has been prosperous for us. Our success lies in following the Kaliphlin ideal of trading with all, equally and fairly. So long as it's profitable. (Grins for a moment.) Siding with a faction means, at best, loss of trade with the other factions. (Looks somber.) Look, Ruadh has been a place for many to start anew. Look at the Potters -- they came here from Mitgardia to escape strife. Why would we wish to bring it here? Why jeopardize a good life and good profit? Siedna: Thanks, Kristen. Seamus? Seamus: Regardless of the official Ruadhi stance, the Atelier must remain neutral. Sure, we train our artists to be good in a fight, but that's brawling. War and soldiering are another thing entirely. (Matteus nods in agreement.) More importantly, if we took sides, Ruadhi artists across the Guilds would be vulnerable to political attacks. In other lands, our welcome is dependent not just on our talents and geniality, but our disinterest in politics, local or guilds-wide. Siedna: I agree. Now, Lady Akantha, you've been rather vocal, working to persuade Ruadhis to side with the High Council. In fact, it seems you've been surreptitiously recruiting since you arrived in Ruadh. We'd like to hear your arguments. Lady Akantha: I wish only for the Tauri to continue to have the right to follow their ways as free people. The Desert King once enslaved us as beasts of labor. The Ulandians have subjugated an entire race;who is to say the Tauri will not be next? Only Flagg and the High Council have left us in peace. If the Tauri of Alikos remain neutral, they might be left alone, but what about their brethren throughout the Guild? Who will fight for them? What will happen to us if Ulandus or the Desert King prevails? We must protect our freedoms! And Ruadhi, as friends of the Alikos -- how can you risk them falling into slavery? Euphemios: How can you talk of fighting to protect our ways? Do you know nothing of our history, girl? As slaves we were used as beasts of war! And you suggest FIGHTING to protect our freedom to stay OUT of conflicts? Lady Akantha: (voice raised): Sometimes compromises are necessary! Surely you realize the ends justify the means! Euphemios: We WILL NOT have our culture compromised by lure of your exotic beauty, you hear me? We WILL NOT -- Themis: (inturrupts) Enough, Euphemios! (more calmly) Captain Corydon? What's been the mood in the Brute Squad? You'd know better than most how the younger 'Taurs are leaning; perhaps you could fill us in. Captain Corydon: Most of our troops agree with the Alikos elders, ma'am; they want to protect our home and our ways. There are few, what did you call em? Restless ones, eager to follow Lady Akantha. Siedna: And what are our defensive capabilities, Captain? Can we afford to lose anyone? Captain Corydon: Actually, ma'am, our troops have more than doubled, between new recruits and newly re-enlisted members who want to defend us. The Brute Squad is stronger than ever, ma'am, and more than capable of protecting Ruadhi peace. Those that want to fight for the High Council, well, to be honest, ma'am, I'd rather let 'em go. Don't want folks who don't really want to be here. Siedna: All right then. Lady Akantha, thank you for speaking with us. Council, it seems we're all in agreement. (Matteus rolls his eyes but remains silent.) I move we remain neutral and shore up our defenses. Short of closing the city, there will be spies and intrigue, but no violence or destruction will come to Ruadh. I also suggest we allow Lady Akantha to gather what forces she may. Active Brute Squad members must seek permission from the Captain to be released from their duties, so we don't become weak. All in favor? (A chorus of "aye" and hands raised.) All opposed? (silence) Ruadhi city council members, left to right: Captain Corydon, Brute Squad representative; Matteus Ruadh, founder; Siedna Ruadh, founder; Seamus Gallach, Atelier representative; Euphemios, Alikos Elder; Themis, Alikos Elder; Kristin Eriksdottir, merchant representative. ____________________________________________________________________________________ I'd like to claim UoP credits for: - Trade and Law: Governing Body (approved) Constructive criticism always welcome!
  22. Designed by students and funded by alumni, the Kennel of Ruadh is one of the settlement's architectural curiosities. The stained-glass canopy is a marvel of glasswork and magic, held together with enchanted githril. Here, the famed Belville mastiffs are bred and trained to serve as companions and protectors to Ruadhic artists. Locals just call it the kennel; tourists somewhat mockingly call it the Canine Cathedral. Lady Siedna and her husband Mateus pay a visit to the kennel. An artist teaches a puppy basic obedience skills while her friend looks on. Throughout the day, students muck out the kennels, a task made more difficult by mischievous young puppies. After filling the food dish with scraps, a student reaches through the fencing to play with a young pup. Meanwhile, an instructor attempts to teach proper grooming techniques to his distracted student. The kennel at sunrise. Disaster Relief (Challenge IV Prelude, Chapter 16) Previous Prelude chapters: Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 In the wake of the Great Disturbance, there was a great diaspora of the resident population around Lone Mountain. After hearing the High Council's pleas to the people of Kaliphlin to not horde food and supplies, a few every day citizens decided to lend a helping hand. A few of Ruadh's wealthier tourists decided a relief effort should be made, even at the expense of their own vacations. They approached Ruadh's leaders, who declined to join or offer protection through the desert. In these troubling times, they said, Ruadh must keep neutral and keep close. Instead, foodstuffs and the loan of a wagon were offered and accepted. The would-be charitable philanthropists set off towards the Lonely Mountain, in the company of the (admittedly sup-par) mercenary they found to act as their guard. --------- Overhead view: I'd like to claim UoP credit for: - Landscape: Trees (2 of 3) (Thanks LittleJohn for the tree design!) - General Building: Forced Perspective - Geography: Desert.

    A True Bloodbath

Somewhere in Nocturnus . . . "The biggest bloodbath you can imagine! More than most of you will see in this lifetime!" So Ravaage's captain had promised. The people of the Iw-Ngem tribe had believed him, and enthusiastically signed up to join Raavage's forces. At first, they had been disappointed when they discovered the mis-communication about bloodbaths. Then, they were horrified by the dishonorable methods of their fellow troops. After the battle, though, the Iw-Ngem people were left in despair, as the Black Spire continued to destroy the land and people of their beloved guild, long after the fight had supposedly ended. In secret, the Iw-Ngem sent the young warrior Quchqal to pledge their loyalty to Lord Vladivus and his resistance. Quchqal still had a long journey before he reached Shadowmere, though he expected to run into scouts and distrust as he got nearer. Quchqal stopped in his tracks. He couldn't believe his eyes! A bloodbath! A true bloodbath! A thick red swampy spring, bubbling mysteriously just so, with delicious slimy black algae coating the banks -- Quchqal couldn't believe his luck. He hadn't had a proper bloodbath since . . . well. This must be a good omen, he decided; Set had sent him a sign he was on the right path for his people. He quickly shed his helmet and blade and prepared to dive in, clothes and all. Builder's notes: It was time for a quick break from the barren dry landscape of Ruadh! I hope Nocturnians find it pleasing. I'd like to claim UoP Credits for: Landscape Design: Trees (1 of 3) Hydrology: Still Water Geography: Swamp

Gorrick hired out his talents to the Red Dragon knights, offering to help guide he through the Nocturnus Wilderness to seek barbarians to recruit to their elite siege troops. They hired a couple of clansmen made camp in a nice sheltered spot and Gorrick offered to hunt some food before settling down for the night before the morning march home. Unlucky for the Dragon Knights, Gorrick didn't return with food, instead Warlord BoneBane and a raiding party... for they had hired him fist to find new souls. Even worse the sheltered spot allowed the raiders to sneak right up to the camp before being spotted. The battle looks like it's not going to go in favour of the Dragon nights.. but what will BonBane do with fresh bones? I wanted to make a tree in-keeping with the lands BoneBane my come from I think it turned out OK but would like to collect more ones and try a much bigger version I future one day.
