  1. First off: making a small factory is really tough. It's way too easy to slip into artisan mode. So think of this not so much as a small factory, as a small part of a factory. A small landed proprietor fell upon hard times back on the Eslandian mainland and decided to turn to industrial pursuits. Thinking that the colonies offered more opportunites in this regard, but not interested in moving too far off, he settled in Bardo and opened a wheel spoke factory in conjunction with a nearby blacksmith who undertook to put the finishing iron band around the wheels. He developed a new machine to expedite the spoke-making process. This machine makes four spokes at once. First, two rough poles must be put inside the machine between the two 5 stud-long sides. (Each pole will later be cut in half for a total of four spokes.) The machine is placed upright and an iron bar is placed between the two poles. The T piece on the end of the bar is swiveled back and forth and turns the cross pieces along the poles, smoothing the poles out as it is pushed slowly forward. I'm not sure it would work in real life. I have admired the educational factories we've seen, but I couldn't find a process simple enough to be shown on a small base like this, so I just invented something. C&C welcome!
  2. Bardo is known for it annual music festival, and one of the constant reminders of the importance of music in this island town is the statue of the Pied Piper at the center of a small fountain near the center of town. Children and animals seem drawn to the statue. Some say the wind plays an alluring tune when it blows around the statue at just the right direction off the ocean. And local custom has turned the fountain into a wishing well. And it's not just children who throw coins in the well; couples also believe the fountain brings good luck. A view of the full build: ------------ A quick build to add a small art & culture property to Bardo. All C&C welcome.

Troops: One platoon (locally raised). See the Pontelli Index. Please post any free-builds that take place in Pontelli in this thread. The Settlement of Pontelli is encompassed in the defense radius of Nova Terreli's Royal Fortress. Map of Nellisa:
  4. [NTSC] Ténotclaxcan training Not every quay at Trador are strait to the sea and it's possible to find some nice sandy parts just next to the port. It is at such sandy place that the Ténotclaxcan Hunters, the great soccer team sent by King Azuma, decided to begin the training. They divided the team in half and launch a small friendly match on the beach. It is the best training they found, as it is known that running on the sand is really harder than running on the grass ! But another team seemed to have the same idea and while the leader of the Terraversa Rebels, the only team of the new Terraversa young Nation, tryed to negociate with the tavern tenant (a really too good Eslandolan Merchant...) his daughter, and co player, raged to the Ténotclaxcans who, according to her, have stolen their training beach. The teams : The Ténotclaxcan Hunters The Terraversa Rebels So the Quay can be licenced as a Large Commerce and allows me to bring 2 Soccer teams in the Challenge If I clearly understood the rules. I am leaving the right to @Maxim I to licence the build for him or for MAESTRO.
  5. A group of Eslandola musketeers relax outside the Falling Leaf Tavern in Hojaroja, on Otoño (The Autumn Isle). After a hard day of guard duty, the musketeers are enjoying some of the cider for which their nation is famous for. --------- The second of my promised Eslandolan builds on Otoño. I wanted to try something a bit different from my usual, the thatch roof started off as an experiment and the build grew from that! Anyway, hope you greenies like it, I'll license it as a medium artisan in the name of the settlement of Hojaroja. It's been a big freebuild month this month (4 I think?), this will be the last I promise (Well, I'm pretty sure it will be...)
  6. Garmadon

    Whiffo Dock

Captain Whiffo stood on the newly finished small dock, thoughtfully perusing the document in his hands, a couple of crates of miscellaneous goods by his side. "Mmhm, yes, alright," he muttered to himself, and then looking up, and addressing the world of the Brick Seas at large - though there happened to be no one there to hear him - he began reading in a stentorian voice, "Ladies, gentlemen, etc., etc., etc., of the Brick Seas!" "Be it known to you that on this day, the 8th of August of the year 617, Captain Whiffo makes over the ownership of Whiffo Dock to the honorable Corlanders for the use of the inhabitants of New Haven, in accordance with the Treaty of blah, blah, blah - hoping that it may thrive and become a bustling center of trade in the years to come." He looked around satisfactorily. Nothing but jungle and water could be seen anywhere about - New Haven was somewhere... out there - but what of it? This location had suited him just fine, and he prided himself on his Eslandolan foresight on all things mercantile and economic, and had concluded that this would be a splendid situation for a future center of commerce and a great place to unload... dinghies? Pshaw! He turned back to his parchment. "This dock, therefore - named in my honor, of course," he added aside - "shall stand as lasting testimony to the good-will of Eslandola to all, blah, blah, blah - you folks," he looked up with a smile, "is what it means to say - and shall prove that Eslandolans are men of their words - or men of their diplomats' words... I never signed that treaty - well!" He turned to the paper again, "Excellent, excellent - that will do the job admirably. I certainly hope the Corries do appreciate the work, for I tell you, it goes very much against the Eslandolan grain to build a dock and then leave it for somebody else to make money off of. Ah, well! - se la vie..." And with that he pulled out a handy sword, and pinned the parchment down to the boards of the new dock. He stepped back to admire the scene, And then turned and left the small new dock to itself and the jungle... And a somewhat random shot of Captain Whiffo by the rock I had to use to hold the paper down in the wind Just a little build from me for BoBS for the Corries' New Haven settlement - I did try out a bit of a new (for me!) rock-work technique which was meant to be an attempt at SK's angled rocks (connected via a technic axle), but I'm not really too sure about how it turned out It is a small commerce to be licenced by Corrington. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome as always!
  7. Major William Bradley sat astride his horse, next to an Eslandolan cavalier officer as pair watched Major Bradley's Corlander garrison march to the waiting Royal Navy ships in Nova Malto harbour. The last of the Mardierian refugees had been safely evacuated, and Eslandola had, somewhat begrudgingly, fulfilled their promises to fund the settlement of New Haven for them. With his mission complete, Major Bradley was determined he would be the last Corlander to leave. As his troops marched past, he could not help but be filled with pride at their neat, orderly ranks. Many of the men seemed cheerful and in high spirits, all held their heads high, their muskets resting on shoulders, brass polished to a high sheen, fresh flints tightly locked and scarlet coats well brushed. In fact he couldn't help but compare their disciplined ranks to the gaggle of Eslandolan musketeers and pikemen behind him. The Eslandolan cavalier cleared his throat. "Well Major, it would seem our duties are at an end. I wish you well on your journey, and caution you against any further adventurism into Eslandolan territory." Major Bradley turned to look at the immaculately dressed officer. He was tired of Eslandolan arrogance, their abject refusal to see any other point of view, their hypocritical stance here in Malto.... part of him almost wished that diplomacy had not prevailed.... his men would have shown these fops how a professional modern army fights.... but no, as glorious as that may have been, without substantial re-enforcements, it could have only eventually ended one way. Rather than reply straight away, he simply raised one eyebrow and turned back to his men. He tried to think how Don Montoya might respond, but alas he was a soldier, not a diplomat. So as a soldier, without turning to look at the officer, he replied, "Indeed my duty here is complete, so with that Sir, I bid you good day." Without further ceremony, he turned his horse, which chose this perfect moment to defecate, and attached himself to the rear of the column. He had heard it said that the conclusion of the Eslandolan/Garvey war against Mardier was the beginning of a new era. Part of him whole-heartedly agreed. When he had first set foot on the Isla de Medio, it was in solidarity with Eslandola, but now as he left the island for a second time, he could not help but feel those who once were considered friends were now almost considered enemies... Corrish armies had for generations adorned their practice targets with blue coats, but now he could not help but think those blue coats would be exchanged in the future for green. As they filed onto the waiting transports in the harbour, the sun set in the west - the following dawn would indeed promise a new era for all. ------- A quick build to wrap up the Nova Malto Saga. Alternate view:
  8. With the evergrowing economy in Trador, MAESTRO founded a warehouse in Puerto Desafio. Due to its central location, it was the perfect base to trade with the surrounding villages. --- Will be licenced as a large commercial property (Challenge 5 (Eslandola) free licence/price for participating in every category) The road was really a struggle :p
  9. As a man of its word, Lord Maximilian Damaximus sent some workers to New Haven as well to help developping the new Haven for refugees. As the housing projects started to turn out very colourfull, the architect continued this style and designed a school and an inn for New Haven. The school, in the red, was very much needed to keep giving chances to the refugees and to teach them the laws of Corrington. After a hard day of study and much information, the citizens can take a break in the Blues Inn next door. --- Property can be licenced by Corrington as a small education and a small artisan. --- This was a fun build :)
  10. Challenge V: Princes of Garvey - Results! It is the end of an era – one which began with the discovery of a few islands and rapidly transformed many of the old regimes into colonizing powers. It has seen the birth of new rivalries and the rekindling of old, and the world of the Brick Seas has forever been changed… As the waves of the new seas grow more contested every day, the smaller nations look on greedily to get a piece of the pie. The valiant (or belligerent) Duke of Prio - depending on who you ask - has become a figurehead for a new movement, a movement of resistance. Now the King of Garvey, Leopaldis IV has begun to stir the pot. He has entered into the Mardier Civil War by declaring a state of war, snatching Mardierian ships, and signing a treaty with Eslandola against that unruly power. Openly taking the side of the Duke of Prio and Eslandola in that conflict, he has now begun to strike at Mardier’s settlements in the Far Islands. A declaration of war from the Mardierians was quick to follow. With Carno between the two nations on the mainland, however, this war, for the most part, will be fought in the far of Prio Seas. There is an old adage in Garvey, “He who rules the waves for his king, the same shall be made prince of the people” - and now the word has come to the far islands that Leopaldis will grant a new Prince title to the person, of whatever nation, who brings him the greatest victories in the Far Seas. Eslandola, too, has declared that it will grant special trading benefits to whoever will own its fight against Mardier, and a particular bonus to the one privateer who surpasses all the rest. But the Mardierians will not be deterred. King Alphonse XIII has finally taken the throne, and has the villainous rebels (more politely known as the “United Provinces’ forces”) on the run. It looks like without further intervention from the other countries, the Mardier Civil War may come to a quick close with Mardier on top. After that, only Terraversa lies between the King and absolute rule. Alphonse has declared that any privateer who defeats a Garvey or Eslandolan force in battle shall be given special trading rights with Mardier, and the greatest privateer of all at the end of the war will be named ambassador to his or her faction with special privileges. (Mardierian High Command - MOCed by our very own, illustrious, Bregir) (Prizes for Overall Individual Winners: Anyone who enters at least once for Eslandola and Garvey's side will get the prize of a 20% greater gain in the MRCA whenever visiting an ESL port for the next three months after the results of the challenge are posted or a 15% greater gain on any landbased properties placed in either Garvey or Eslandolan settlements built in the same time period (but the bonus would stay in place for those properties for all the foreseeable future), and the one overall winner for this side [determined by their average of entries from all categories] will receive the honorary title of Prince of Garvey, and will get a 40% greater gain when trading in any GAR or ESL ports during the next four months or a 30% bonus on all landbased properties in ESL or GAR settlements built during the same period (again, the bonuses would not go away afterwards - just any new builds would not be eligible for the bonus). Everyone who enters at least once for Mardier, on the other hand, will get a 25% greater gain whenever visiting MAR ports for the next three months after the results for the challenge are published or a 20% greater gain on any landbased properties placed in Mardierian settlements which are built in the same time period (but the bonus would likewise stay in place after that), and the overall winner for this side will receive the honorary title of Mardierian Ambassador, and a 50% trading bonus in MAR ports for four months/MRCAs or a 40% bonus on all landbased properties MAR settlements built during the same period (same bonus provisions as before). But we digress...) But what is at stake for the nations, you ask? The future of Mardier, Garvey, and Eslandola all hang in the balance! Will Mardier crush its opponents and regain its old position as the greatest empire of the world, or will Eslandola and Garvey be dictating its terms? Find out and tell us! (OOC: Another digression, I'm afraid! Overall Faction Winners: MAR, if the winning side, would win: The war... Isla de Many Names, an extra settlement on said island a royal fort license to be placed in any of its territories a monthly stipend of 300DBs to be paid by Eslandola as rent for the land on which Fuerte Unido is situated (the settlement, however, would continue to belong to ESL) ESL, if the winning side, would win: The war... Isla de Many Names, microbuild licenses (5 small, 3 medium, 2 large - free choice of category) to be placed in an extra settlement (if possible use one of the existing MAR locations) on the island, a royal fort license (to be placed anywhere on the island, three microbuilds required, showing different parts of the fort, or one large microbuild, license doesn't count against the fort limit of the corresponding settlement) In the case of no decisive win, one way or the other, the island would be peacefully (well, not really... but the war would be ended) split in half between MAR and ESL. first ranking faction among COR/OL/SR: microbuild licenses (5 small, 3 medium, 2 large - free choice of category) to be placed anywhere, which are the results of the efforts of those trying to escape the Mardierian war to settle in other nations' territory, a royal fort license (to be placed anywhere, three microbuilds required, showing different parts of the fort, or one large microbuild, license doesn't count against the fort limit of the corresponding settlement), 3000 FIPs second place: microbuild licenses (3 small, 2 medium, 1 large - free choice of category) to be placed anywhere, with the same reasoning as above, two large fort licenses (not upgradable, to be placed anywhere, one microbuild required per license, license don't count against the fort limit of the corresponding settlements), 2000 FIPs third place: microbuild licenses (2 small, 1 medium - free choice of category) to be placed anywhere, one large fort license (not upgradable, to be placed anywhere, microbuild required, license doesn't count against the fort limit of the corresponding settlement) 1000 FIPs End of prize info). This is the last challenge in Era I, The Discovery, and any member may build for either side – and it doesn’t necessarily have to be the side you think is best or right! There is not even any need to build for the same side in each category, and each member may build a maximum of one entry per side for each category – that is, you can have a total of 10 entries, max. Besides the usual category winners (one from each side [MAR or ESL + GAR], best build on the winning side being the winner and the best on the other the runner up of the category), there will be one overall winner for each team (the number of categories entered coming into play here), who will win the top individual prizes mentioned above. As per the usual, other factions will still compete against one another for the faction prizes as well (whichever side you build for, it will still help your own faction here - and note that, as there is already very much at stake for ESL, they won't be contending for this particular prize, see the faction prize info above), and the overall winning side (ESL and GAR or MAR and its allies) will end up being the winning side of the war. [Credit to the GoH leaders for many of the ideas above!] Category A: The Assassin's Creep Setting: The streets of Kings Port. Love and death are in the air. Panic has come over the island due to rumors that Alphonse has silenced the opposition back on the mainland. With their own leader in pseudo-rebellion, the Terraversans worry that Alphonse’s Death Guard will make their way to the island to reclaim it once and for all. Now is the time to make alliances and break previous partnerships. The best way to form an alliance is through marriage; the best way to break one is through bloodshed. Depict a romantic outing or a tragic end of life scene (or maybe both?) which affects the relationship between Terraversa and Mardier or some other nation. The MOC may be no larger than 16 x 16, and minifigure posing will be taken into account when judging. Due Date: February 28th, anywhere in the world Category Prize – 1st place - A battalion of Terraversan mercenaries, free of charge and upkeep - and 41149 Moana's Island Adventure Runner-up - A company of Terraversan troops, free of charge and upkeep - Results - Category B: ‘Till my dying breath… Setting: Skaford Heights. Mardier’s secret colony has been discovered by Eslandolan forces, and now there is a plan for a joint all-out assault! Builders need to pick a side and depict the Garvey and Eslandolan assault on the island. Your character does not have to be physically involved in the attack, but your sig fig has funded this expedition to defend or attack Skaford Heights (your sig-fig does not necessarily have to be involved with or funding the same side as the one you are building for). The MOC must depict a beach landing, a defense mounted by the Mardierians, and the death of a hero, and may be up to 48x48 studs. At least one picture must be a close up of the Hero’s death scene (artistic license for posing allowed, of course – see Death of General Wolfe for an example of artistic license.) Due Date: March 31st, anywhere in the world Category Prize – 1st place - 500 PIPs and a free medium fort (activated by a micro-build) to be placed anywhere - and 31063 Beachside Vacation Runner-up - 300 PIPs and a free small fortress (activated, likewise, by a micro-build) - Results - Category C: On Stranger Tentacles Setting: The Sea of Prio. Did you hear that Garvey has harnessed the power of the Kracken? Or perhaps you have heard about how King Alphonse rides on a giant Narwhal, destroying ships at his leisure? Terrible things lay in the depths of the Far Seas, and you will be depicting one of them. There are no size limits, but there must be a terrible sea creature, and it must be destroying a vessel or terrorizing a camp on shore from the side you are not supporting in the war. The monster must be natively aquatic (no jungle beasts, please). Due Date: March 31st, anywhere in the world Category Prize – 1st place - Cooperate with with the gamemasters in moving the Kraken in the upcoming quest! - and 70623 Destiny's Shadow Runner-up - Learn ahead of time the location of the Kraken (either to chase it or to run away!) for the first two MRCAs - Results - Category D: Yum Yum, Bumbel Tuna Setting: The far seas. The Mardierian fleet in the far seas has made their latest fortune in the fishing industry. Tuna has become the latest craze among the elite of the mainland. Mardier’s sailors have developed trade secrets and hidden away the best fishing spots to create a near monopoly on this most sought after fish, as the Eastern Bumbel Tuna Trading Company reaps massive profits! The Garvian privateers seek to hit Mardier where it hurts, their wallet. Builders depict either Garvian privateers intercepting a Mardier fishing vessel or show Mardier troops outwitting the Garvian privateers. This MOC may be up to 48x48 studs. The MOC must include TWO vessels, fish (brick built are fine!), and waves. Due Date: April 15th, anywhere in the world Category Prize – 1st place - A life-time supply of Bumbel Tuna!!! Reap a 300% profit next time you go on a Bounty Run (you'll have to let the automaters know after the KPA is published to triple the amount, or make sure they have already done so) - and 41150 Moana's Ocean Voyage Runner-up - Reap a 200% profit on your next bounty run - Results - Category E: The Treasure Trove Setting: The New World It is said that Mardier has been building up a massive fleet and army, which have been amassing at their ports to crush the rebels and Eslandola once and for all. There is only one wee little problem – Mardier is, essentially, broke. But rumor has it that somewhere in the newly discovered islands there is a fabled kingdom of gold, where the natives of the place have far more of the shiny metal than they know what to do with – and rumor has it, too, that the East Bumbel Tuna Company has found a map leading to this kingdom, and that they mean to use all means, fair and foul, to get this gold to support the Mardierian war endeavor and finish off the rebels once and for all! Such a sum of money could be the making or breaking of the struggling empire, but the news seems to have escaped and it is more than only the Mardierian who search for that lost treasure now! Show either one of your characters hearing about, discovering and/or carrying off this treasure, and dealing with the natives (and it doesn’t necessarily have to be for Eslandola! – as long as Mardier doesn’t get it, that is good enough for them!), or tell us how Mardier and the East Bumbel Tuna Company managed to thwart the treasure hunters and securely carry off this store of doubloons! But it is said that Mardier is not a nation with a track record of getting along very well with the native peoples… This is a story category, and you are allowed a maximum of three builds to portray this, the sizes being no greater than one 16x16, one 32x32, and one unlimited build respectively. There are no restrictions as to how you find the treasure or where this kingdom is located except that it is on one of the newly discovered islands of the Prio seas or the new Haven Seas region. Are the natives there friendly, or are they fiercely protective of their gold? Do pirates make off with the doubloons, do they fall into the hands of the rebels or Eslandolans, or is Mardier able to carry out their villainous masterplan? You decide! Due Date: May 15th, anywhere in the world Category Prize – 1st place - A new island (of the Prio seas, though your build could be in the new Haven seas) of your choice for your faction and 600 DBs - and 31065 Park Street Townhouse Runner-up - 500 DBs - Results - And now get to building those MOCs! The fate of the Brick Seas rests in your hands!
  11. While his soldiers were rebuilding Malto, Lakor and Mehit, Lord Maximilian Damaximus was busy with organising the "Lakor Soccer Tournament". He also ordered the constructing of a Royal Palace, a residence that would fit his new royal title of "Prince of Garvey". Now he wasn't only a prince by marriage (as husband of Princess Margot of Eslandola), but also a prince by title. There are rooms for both the king of Eslandola and the king of Garvey. A not rendered painting: top view from far above the sky, it looks small, doesn't it? --- Thanks for watching! It was fun and frustrating to build I wanted to develop the gardens and road more and I wanted to make an interior, but LDD had another opinion and crashed more than 20 times. In the end it crashed everytime I added a stupid plate... The dimensions are 160x192 studs and the palace will be licenced as a royal palace.
  12. Just in time for the Trador Soccer Cup, the Apple Cider Brewery of Trador opened its production line. The world famous MAESTRO Apple Cider will be brewed here, with the same recipe as the Brewery in Elysabethtown uses. The production line is one of the most modern of its time, with an advanced transportation system to load horse-cars, vessels and sloops. (it actually works :D still some helping hands needed, but it does what it needs to do, lifting barrels at every possible position in the transport line) smashing the apples refilling with apples Trador Apple Cider Brewery by Maxim, on Flickr filling bottles Outside the factory, the sloops were being loaded --- The opening of the brewery also made Trador the first new colonial settlement in the Prio Seas to reach Large Town status! To celebrate, free glasses of Apple Cider were handed out! --- Thanks for watching! Will be licenced as large factory :)
  13. The Golden Apple Chase, Part I, Chapter 3 : A new map to understand If you missed the previous episodes : Introduction : Where Felipe de la Manzana is learning the existence of the Golden Apple. Part I Chapter 1 : Where Felipe is studying the Ténotclaxcans to learn more of the Apple. Part I Chapter 2 : Where Felipe is finding an incomplete map that could help him find the Apple. Strong of his new map and ready to search for the Golden Apple, Felipe de la Manzana used all its ressources to send in every corner of the Brick Sea an exploration team. He even used the new scientific progress the recent Phlogisphere opened and sent an adventurer alone on board of one of this magnificent (but costly...) balloon ! The young man on board seemed enchanted to fly on his device but, unfortunately, even with the map carefully read, he didn't succeed in finding the location of the island where the Golden Apple could be... Every ship Felipe could afford him, being his new Frigate, the Brickwall, or being this new little sloop, the Crowned Pigglet, he bought near Turtuga to some turtle eggs smugglers, never found the damn location so strongly desired... It appeared he missed something... Something that could be the key... "Hey ! The Key ! Yes ! The Golden Priest said that ! It's only a half map ! I need the second half !" realised Felipe. But Who is in possession of this half map ? This is something we will discover on the Second Part of the story ! With this Chapter I am closing my first part of the Golden Apple chase to be synchronized with the new change of rules and begin my second part of the story with the new "Era". I hope it was not too chaotic to follow as I changed a little bit my writing while progressing in the game. Some comments on the builds I've made : The Phlogisphere was a build I made for FanaBriques in Strasbourg, France to stick to the theme of the Event : "Flying vehicles". And the little ship, the Crowned Pigglet, is obviously not my best, but It's entirely made from exclusively the pieces of the Angry Bird set 75825 Piggy Pirate Ship which I reworked to fit in a more conventional sloop aspect, only the minifigs are out of this set, the sails, and even the rope are from the original set ! I hope you'll like it ! Thank you for reading and, of course, every C&Cs are welcome !
  14. Pontelli's football team has arrived at Trador. The team had agreed to come uniformly dressed ("I'll be wearing green - you too?") which has turned out as a mixture of greenish Eslandolean uniforms. But Oswald Brickinson is undeterred as always ("I hope that some of my boys will at least be putting their weapons aside while we play.") They are practising in the park of Trador - next to the new and extravagant fountain. Everyone is quite happy as they could get away from Asma April for some time. Every player is still running after the ball and no tactics were visible when they played at the fountain. As Brickinson explained: "We are after a lucky punch. Or goal or what the name was. And then the Gods may help us. This is our approach to winning!" Reporter: "Do you favour 4-3-3 over 4-4-2?" Brickinson: "What? Well, I like something that goes 7:1." C&C Welcome - and now I need to register this somewhere, right?

He could not understand that he had not found anything." Lady de Summer replied: "He must have felt quite dejected." "Yes, he must have." "So, my dear Captain, I am still waiting to hear how you got into the possession of this fine model of the 8 Provinces." "Right, right, Mylady. I am owing you the answer. But I will get to it in a minute." He paused to eat the rest of the cookie he was holding. "Well, I bought it at a flea market". "What?" "You heard right. You see, the Red Fandango, or Flynn Stewart - that was his real name - had to admit that he had failed. There was no wreck of the 8 Provinces, no treasure, nothing - just a lot of money spent. His failure went around as a rumour or story told in bars and taverns in every Corrington port." "And?" "Apparently Flynn Stewart got so angry, he destroyed two of the models." "Oh dear!" "Yes, he did. But then he saved the last one." "And?" "He sold it at a flea market. To make some money, maybe to buy himself another drink." "And?" "And I bought it. Simple as that. Bit of a long story, though, ma'am. You look agitated! Did I say something wrong? " Lady de Summer produced a pistol: "Quite the contrary, my dear Captain. You just said what I had hoped to hear." "Hand me the model of the 8 Provinces!" "But why...?" "Just do as you are told!" Captain Cookie took the model ship and carefully moved it towards Lady de Summer. She glanced at it briefly, opened the hull and smiled with relief. "What did you seek?" "The maps, my dear Captain, the three maps. And they are all here, in the remaining model. Fine, fine." "But the maps are worthless, ma'am." "So it may seem. But there was something in your story that I have heard a long time ago." "What was it?" "The second map had partly been drowned in some blueberry juice." "And?" "Well, isn't that obvious? That blueberry juice looked just like the colour of the sea on the map." "And?" "And so shape of the island where the 8 Provinces sank was altered - the Red Fandango was looking for the wrong island." "And?" "If you clean the map carefully, you will see what the treasure island really looks like. And you will find it. Or rather, I will." "If you know all these details about the juice and the modified maps, you must have heard about the model ships and maps before." "You are right, my dear Captain. If I may re-introduce myself: I am Angelina Lancaster - my family has owned the second ship. But I must leave you now, I already said too much." "Thanks for the dinner and the excellent wine." "A pleasure, Mylady." Captain Cookie waited until Lady de Summer had left with her prize. Then he sat back down again, with a sigh of relief and helped himself to another glass of wine. "That was hard work, but it worked out like I had hoped." He took a sip. After a while he looked at the Norwegian Blue again and the parrot stared back at him. "Angelina", the Norwegian Blue croaked. "Pretty bird", Captain Cookie muttered to himself. "Pretty bird." [END OF PART 1] I hope you've enjoyed the story so far. And let's see what the future will bring. A number of builds have been used to create the story up to this point. And some things I have built expecially for the story weren't used in the end... I'd like to thank Kai NRG and Garmadon for their excellent support. Their MOCs made the story shine. Could be a good idea to extend the collaboration when it comes to PART 2. C&C welcome!
  16. Captain Cookie loves to stop by at Puerto Desafio to purchase a fresh supply of eponymous cookies. "George's Pastry Shop" is the place the adventurous traveller is looking for when it comes to pastry: George's little helpers are scurrying around the shop and the workshop area. George and the happy customers remain undeterred. The shop owner himself is a tall but quiet guy with a rather large nose (nobody would dare to mention this fact in fear of their cookie supply being cut off) who hardly ever says a word. The dough used for the many cakes produced here is of finest brickworld quality. Customers also treasure the wonderful multi-coloured sugar coatings. And although Captain Cookie has already paid a small fortune for his bag of cookies, he feels obliged to give a large tip to one of George's co-workers, as always. Despite the fact that - amongst other ingredients - large quantities of bananas are delived to the shop everyday, banana cakes are not available for sale. As mentioned before the peckish traveller can find "George's Pastry Shop" in Puerto Desafio, not far from the harbour, right in the middle of Brickwall-Jones-Avenue. C&C welcome.

[The Secret of the 8 Provinces - Prelude] [The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 1st Chapter] The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 2nd Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 3rd Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 4th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 5th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 6th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 7th Chapter Captain Cookie continued: The weather was turning worse by the minute. A terrifying storm had come and the pirates were in hot pursuit of the silver-loaded 8 Provinces: De Ruyter had his men load the guns but the fast pirate ship was moving carefully not to fall prey to the 8 Provinces broadsides. The pirates were using their guns to shoot at sails and rigging... .. but then finally Paul de Ruyter had carried out the perfect manoevre and the 8 Provinces was ready to send the pirates to the bottom of the sea. .. all guns were fired ... ... the 8 Provinces delivered a devastating broadside. The pirate ship was severely damaged and began to sink - but the evil gang of cutthroats was still able to fight back one more time. With a lucky strike they hit the fore-mast of the galleon. It came down with the crash of thunder, rendering the 8 Provinces almost immovable and causing her to heel. Water poored in through the open gunports .... the 8 Provinces was doomed. And so were the pirates... They went down and not a single evil soul survived. "And the 8 Provinces?" Lady de Summer asked. She sank only minutes later. "Did anybody survive?" 18. The Secret of the 8 Provinces - Prelude The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 1st Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 2nd Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 3rd Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 4th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 5th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 6th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 7th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 8th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 9th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 10th Chapter (that would be this!) (Picture by Captain Braunsfeld... obviously. ) Captain Cookie continued: And so, you see, the Red Fandango set sail with Old Captain Argentum's Sparkle and a fine crew of misfits for the cove where he thought he'd find the shipwreck and treasure of the 8 Provinces. And no, he didn't happen to meet any Oleanders on his voyage, much to the old Captain's chagrin when he heard it. All was calm and tranquil in the underwater cove. The fish, sharks, and other underwater beasties did their usual... things. The luscious coral vegetation moved back and forth with the slight current. Suddenly, the Red Fandango swam into the scene. He looked around admiringly at the seascape that stretched out before him. ("That was his Corrie instinct, you see," Captain Cookie remarked aside.) Then he looked serious. Down to business. ("I may as well mention at once that the Red Fandango had become an absolute master at holding his breath. I hear that he only had to go up for a breather once during this whole procedure. I believe I've heard that he was taught the art by a monkey.") The Red Fandango sat down and pulled out his map (the last, most specific one), which he had had enclosed in glass for the expedition. He looked up excitedly - this was the place! ("That's when he lost a breath in his happiness and had to go up again, you know.") Then he glanced around. There was nothing there! Captain Cookie made a long pause. "And?" Lady de Summer finally put in. "Well, actually there was something there. A cannonball sat in the center of the ocean floor, one last remnant of the devastating battle which took place there. The Red Fandango glanced around. History could have been very different." Captain Cookie made another pause, and ate a bit of the cookie he held in his hand. "But he didn't see it. I hope you didn't get your hopes up. History stayed the same (except it hadn't happened yet, of course)." "So that was the right place?" Lady de Summer asked. "What had happened to the wreck and the treasure?" Captain Cookie looked up. "No, he replied, it wasn't the right place. A monkey had just placed the cannonball in a conspicuous place there about two minutes before. But as I said, after all it didn't matter, because the Red Fandango didn't see it anyways." "And what happened to him?" Lady de Summer put in. "Well, there isn't much left to tell," Captain Cookie remarked. "We left him standing there astonished. But he was a quick thinker, and soon concluded that he must be in the wrong place. And thankfully for him, he was a quick swimmer too. "Swim away!!!" And that was how the Red Fandango finished his first attempt to find the wreck of the 8 Provinces. Once again the sharks and fishes were left in sole possession of the scene, and the corals and florae were left to themselves in peace. But that was not the end... To be continued. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My section of this story collab with Kai and Captain Braunsfeld (to move along Captain B's awesome storyline - he's taking a vacation for a few days ). I had been wanting to do a underwater All-LEGO scene for a while though and had had some ideas, and so I put them all to use here - and I really like how they turned out! The curved background filled with studs seemed like the easiest way to go for an all-scene without an unlimited amount of pieces (and time!), and I also tried out my water technique here with all sorts of pastel colors underneath the trans-clear instead of just the usual blues. Altogether I think I'd have to say it is of the the most fun and one of my favorites builds I've done yet! One last shot at a slightly higher angle (In case that wasn't already enough of them ): Thanks for viewing, C&C are certainly welcome!

    New Recruits in Bardo

A new target range has been assembled in Bardo for the education of new volunteers. One officer from the city's troop detachment is currently training two new recruits in the art of basic marksmanship. However it would appear that these two are less than competent in the basics of firearms.... Licensed as small education in Bardo. It's nice to finally post something new in BoBS!

    Lost at Sea

[The Secret of the 8 Provinces - Prelude] [The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 1st Chapter] The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 2nd Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 3rd Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 4th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 5th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 6th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 7th Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 8th Chapter (yes, this is where you are) Captain Cookie continued: At first it seemed that nobody had survived. But then there was a tiny figure amidst the fury of the wild ocean, holding on to an oar. Just one? Lady de Summer asked. Who was the survivor? The first mate, Mr. Errol. Although badly injured he managed to stay afloat and alive. What happened to Mr. Errol? Well, he did make it to some small settlement on the nearby island. Some landlord took care of him and gave him a room where he could rest and try to recover from his injuries. Mr Errol claimed to have been on an Oleon fishing boat and that he was washed overboard by a huge wave during the storm. He did not say a single word about the "8 Provinces" as he felt he could trust noone. His recovery, sadly, came to a halt and his condition got worse. Mr Errol began to see that he would meet his fate there and then. Having been an excellent carver and craftsman he asked for knives, wood and stuff - and he started to create the three models of the "8 Provinces", each in a different colour. I don't know how and where he got hold of the three different maps but he managed to hide them inside the small ships. Apparently he planned to send the model ships to his three brothers, but that could only be assumed as he died from yellow fever before he could ship the ships. After the only human survivor had died, nobody knew what happened to the "8 Provinces". She was considered "lost at sea". She became a rumour, a myth, a goodnight-story for children. The subject of endless speculations of what had happened to her and her silver treasure. What happened to the three ships after Mr Errol had died? Lady de Summer asked. Well, the landlord sold them to cover for the funeral and his expenses. And the brown ship was purchased by a man called Granger Stewart. He was the Red Fandango's grandfather. Years later, the Red Fandango found the ship in the attic and discovered that there was a map. Maybe there was some other hint included that gave him the idea to search for the other two ships. Also there must have been some written account of what had happened to the "8 Provinces". And what did the Red Fandango do next? [to be continued]
  21. A little southwest of Camp Isaac, at the bank of a small creek right within the jungle, elevated upon four logs stands a small cabin. This cabin is owned by Felicia Sandalo (a scientist and explorer sponsored by Román Fontonajo), as a starting point for all her scientific adventures to explore the wonders of Cascadia. And Cascadia had many of these, with her most recent favourite, the yellow wide-mouthed frog. Only some more observations, and she was ready to share her insight with the members of the Royal Society that currently resided in Camp Isaac. Unfortunately she had not yet had the chance to observe any of the large carnivorous wild cats, which were rumoured to wander the jungles of Cascadia, and were possibly also responsible for the cultural decay of the recently discovered Myzectlan. Little did she know that she was in fact the one being observed right now...
  22. Elise, The devestation. It's horrifying. The recent war absolutely destroyed families. The crew and I went to see what we can do to help. He pulled alongside one of our nation's vessels and worked with them to transport some of the refugees. Rene talked to some of the soldiers, getting information on just how extensive the damage was. We didn't see the worst of it. One of the families we helped lost their mother in the conflict. The father is now having to raise two girls by himself. We're doing what we can to help, donating money, resources. Some of the refugees are being set up in some of our settlements, where hopefully they can get back to living life, even if it is in a new place. When we returned to our ship, I think I heard Jean, you know Jean, our big burly master gunner, crying down below deck. It's been difficult for everyone. All my love, Emile
  23. A Doctor for the refugees in Puerto Desafio Since the end of the Eslando-Mardieran war on Isla de Victoria, many refugees from the ancient Mardieran colonies went to find help in the controled areas of Eslandola new territory. Eslandola is welcoming all the war victims what ever be their past. Even the former soldiers of the Mardieran Army are welcome to settle in the new Puerto Desafio colony ! And to provide the basic first aid and health support for all this growing population, a Doctor was needed ! It is Doctor Ayuda, graduated in the Great Medical University of Nova Terrelli, who decided to answer to this need. He managed to save an ancient mardieran house from destruction near the quays of Puerto Desafio to open a Hospital in order to welcome the refugees. This build will be licensed as a Medium Artisan in Puerto Desafio in order to use my reward in the Challenge V. Of course C&Cs are welcome.

    Food for refugees

The aftermath of war is ugly, and the latest war between Mardier and Eslandola was no exception. In spite of the honorable ceasefire and Mardier's negotiated retreat off the island, Mardier employed a scorched earth policy as a final gesture against Eslandola. Sadly, the only real effect this had was to impoverish the citizens left behind. Their own country had betrayed them, and a rogue captain who apparently wasn't done fighting the war hid their plight from the Eslandolans in a political power play. But his subterfuge was now revealed. Eslandola had been busy taking care of refugees from all over the island as they flocked to Puerto Desafio, but now Eslandola was sending foodstuffs and other needed items to the former Mardierian settlement of Malto, the remaining symbol of Mardierian cruelty. Here we see one of the Eslandolan relief volunteers delivering goods to a needy refugee family, whose house has been destroyed by Mardier's scorched earth retreat. They are happy to see the Eslandolans, as it is obvious they have nothing to fear.
  25. Gov. Guilder made his way along the dock to greet his fellow Eslandians. "Secretary Bowditch! Captain Whiffo! I hope you had fair seas for your trip. Welcome to Puerto Desafio, and thank you for getting to Isla de Victoria so quickly." "Yes, yes, we had favorable winds," replied Eslandola's Secretary of State. "So, what is the current state of affairs up north?" "Montoya has sent us the Corrie demands, and I have replied with our positions on the matter. I have a carriage waiting to take us up the road to Malto. We have agreed to meet in no-man's-land." "Give me five minutes with that Montoya fellow and he'll see the light!" bellowed Capt. Whiffo. "Perhaps we should keep the good captain in reserve, so to speak," Guilder suggested softly. "Yes, I see your point," replied Bowditch. "He's sort of a human powder keg, isn't he?" "Far in reserve..." added Guilder. Bowditch chuckled. "Yes, let's keep the match away from the powder." Bowditch turned to Whiffo. "Captain, would you be so good as to liaison with Mayor Alkurda and see how he's doing with the building programs here in Puerto Desafio?" "Certainly! I'll whip things into shape here in a jiffy!" replied Capt Whiffo loudly. "There, that's a win right off the bat," declared Bowditch. "Yes, quite so," replied Guilder with a grin. As they walked to the carriage, Guilder paused momentarily to rub his leg. "Pardon me. I'm still getting used to the pegleg." "Quite alright, Willem. You've acquired quite a memento from the war." "Yes, and I don't plan on getting another one." They resumed walking to the carriage, and Guilder continued. "There has been a recent development in Malto." "Do tell." "We may have been wrong about that Lorenzini fellow. My man Calvo has been up there snooping around, and it doesn't appear he had anything to do with the destruction of the Corrie ship." "Interesting..." Bowditch trailed off in thought. "Back home, Lord Damaximus is singing Lorenzini's praises. He thinks he is the key to our negotiation." "I wouldn't disagree. We need to find out more about him. I have Calvo on it. If Lorenzini is on the up and up, as Montoya claims, this might not be too hard to settle." "Let's hope so," replied Bowditch. "Here, let me help you into the carriage." And the journey over rough roads to Malto began...
