  1. REVIEW: 70786 Gali Master of Water So the last few days have been crazy for me. I had to go to a clinic due to a sudden increase in heart speed and drop of blood pressure, my computer glitched out, and then my car was booted. On top of this I have to prepare for a Spanish 3040 exam tomorrow dealing with "Subjunctive Verbs." *Shivers* So yeah, it hasn't been that fun the last few days. As an escape I have been logging onto BZpower and Eurobricks frequently, as such a certain siren came and caught my ABS loving heart. Gali, the Master of Water. So with my nostalgia running overdrive, and a desire to escape for a moment from the drudgery of irregular Spanish verbs, I hunted down Gali in a local Smiths. So there she is, that siren which robbed me of 15 dollars... Her ABS glory coupled to a high sense of nostalgia for my simple childhood in 2001, made it easy for Gali to take my heart. But first before I built her I had to procure some food... My plan for chips and salsa was killed by a super tough salsa can lid... Was this can of salsa going to stand between me and my Gali? Fortunately no, since Kivoda the Protector of Water offered an alternative dinner: the fruit of Ga-Okoto. Fresh StarKist Tuna, raised in Okoto, packaged in Ecuador! Kivoda was more than excited for me to save Gali from her box enclosed status, and did all in his power to release her from the carboard prison! I told you I was going to be studying Spanish tonight... Maestro oddly enough translates as both Master and Teacher. So maybe Gali is now the Teacher of Water! With a mighty relic from the stash of President Buisness, the mighty sword of "Kni-Fe de Booter!" I saved Gali from her boxed state. And there it is, Gali's pieces... As per Eurobricks tradition we must all stare at this photo of "New and Interesting Pieces." Please don't drool while admiring this. This is probably the craziest piece ever: Yeah, so anyway Gali's build starts of simple enough. This part should take Bionicle fans all of 5 seconds of intesne labor. You know, all of Gali was a simple build. I was hoping she could compare to the build of a modular building, but for some reason Lego expects us to have simple builds in 15 dollar sets (obvious sarcasm)... At least it didn't take me 4 hours like a modular does! I love that Lego has included gearboxes in Bionicle again, it is such a wonderful throwback to the classic 2001 sets. Here is Gali near completion, torso pieceless and headless... Her torso plate is a Hero Factory Breakout torso, so if anybody wants to remove her lovely printed chest piece to shove a small circle with an H into her heart... be my guest. And the moment we have all been wating for... Gali in the flesh! That mask really finishes it off, as soon as the mask is placed her character really comes out. She has a very sleek, feminine, war like appearance. As other reviewers have noted, Gali's fins can link so she can become a Bio-Mermaid and recreate scenes of Disney's hit classic "The Little Mermaid." Gali: "Up where they talk, up where they walk, up where they stay all day in the sun!!!" Gali's staff can become a battle axe, and as you may have noticed I put the fins on upside down... Oops. Kivoda is happy to have a fellow water tribe friend now... The Toa and Protector pairings look great together, very reminisent of the Toa and Turaga pairings in classic Bionicle. Of course with pieces from the Protector of water Gali can get some new equipment to battle for Okoto! Although not as complex as Bionicle G1's combiner models, this is a lot more visually pleasing than slapping Gali together with a green and white Toa to build a wide hipped three torso Kaita... Here is Gali with my entire 2015 Bionicle collection. Sorry the photo is a bit blurry. Gali stands out wonderfully, I like how her blue is contrasting with Tahu's red. So my thoughts on Gali are is that she is a wonderfull addition to the Bionicle range. The last time I bought a Gali set was back in 2001 itself, and I can see very plainly how Lego has improved on Bionicle in the past 14 years. Gali is a great figure, and stands out in a collection. She is a must have for anybody interseted in Bionicle 2015. What is that Kivoda? I have to return to reality now? Sigh... time to study those irregular verbs and subjunctive for that exam tomorrow. Hasta luego mis amigos!

    MOC: Reegu the Needle

They're not alone on Okoto. Much like the Dark Hunters in G1 a silent association operates beneath the surface of the mythical island, people we don't know the names as of yet. But we know some of the members, and Reegu is one of those. Part of a species living on a faraway island, its kind is well known for their long and weird arms and legs and their stealth abilities, along with their shield-shaped heads. Reegu is not that well equipped, but what it lacks in the firepower department is easily compensated by its outstanding mastery of... the way of the ninja. This is my first MOC ever, can't believe I waited so many years to build one. Is that really crappy? I tried to pay attention to particulars like colour scheme and playability (to hell the yellow feet, I had no better alternative). I'd love suggestions and feedback. Thank you very much for reading and viewing! http://i.imgur.com/7i7jMER.jpg Gallery (literally two images): http://imgur.com/a/ZdhRE
  4. Well, I'm not sure if we have one of these already, but if it does exist, then it's so old that using it would be necroposting. So, what are everybody's favourite and least-favourite masks? In Bionicle, Hero Factory, and anything else? For me, I might as well divide it up a bit. Bionicle Best: The Ignika Worst: Basically any Glatorian helmet that exposed most of the figure's face. Let's be honest, the Glatorian heads weren't great as faces, being all-trans and looking a lot like a certain Marvel Hero, weren't something you wanted to keep on-show. Hero Factory Best: Any of the 1.0/Breakout helmets. They all looked functional, they had their own identity, and they fit their characters. Worst: Brain Attack Bulk. I mean seriously.

    MOC: Toa Deleva

Toa Deleva is a half-KAL, half Toa of Plasma. He was ripped in half by Skakdi maradeurs and fixed with experimental KAL technology by Dark Hunters in Odina. The hunters were a bit daft, though. They didn't take his mask of speed away, so he simply ran out of the fortress. Well done, that man. Splitface's torso armor was the starting point here. The shaping of the (more) organic side is my favorite part here. The round HF armor add-on is a wonderful piece. More on Cyclopic Bricks. Enjoy!

    The Custom Gearbox Thread

Ah, the humble gear mechanism. From as early as 1999, a gearbox has been something which has defined a Lego action figure, and arguably made it whole. Although they had an extensive hiatus, gearboxes have returned to constraction in a big way. Many MOCists are taking inspiration from the reboot of Bionicle, and are mechanising their custom creations. Some, however, aren't just using the gearboxes the Danish gods provided them with. Custom gearboxes have hit the scene, allowing for more unique functionality and animation. Ingenious methods of motion are being integrated into models which would otherwise stand static. This thread is for you to share your own custom gearboxes, or work together with other users to develop new ideas. I'll start off by sharing a few of my designs. LW2 - Designed for stability on larger figures. LW1 (not its official name) is a gearbox coined by ToaLeewan, and is the core design the LW2 adapts upon. I have used this on several models, the first being G2 Umbra. SL1 - Designed to mimic the functionality of the Slizers. Rather superfluous, but still a fun experiment. K1 - Designed for back and forth shoulder motion, which realigns via an elastic band. I've only used this on Kaikohuru. MG1 - For use on smaller figures that use the 'XT4' frame.

    Tahu the Swordsman

In my MOCs, I love to try and create new torsos for humanoid characters, and Tahu the Swordsman is no exception. Weilding two katana, this shorter version of Tahu is also boasting heavy shoulder armour, which was another thing I wanted to experiment with here. And a look at the basic torso: Anyways, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, just experimenting with some stuff here, like to see what you guys think!

    Rediscoverd "Inspired by BIONICLE" Combiners

Since I already posted about this twice on BZPower, I might as well also post it here. One of the many wacky foreign and non-canon combiners G1 of BIONICLE had was this often liked diddy that mixes together the blue, red and black Rahkshi into one staff wielding warrior. What you may not know is that there were apparently other models that came from the same Brickshelf gallery it came from that were not used in the (Western, at least) LEGO magazine it appeared in. These are more... out there, to say the least. And when asked if they should also be include in the alternate model database back in October, Volitak_Boxor said no because they weren't, to out knowledge, LEGO-sanctioned like the Japanese model was. Until now... While browsing on Google, I came across this old BZPower news archive page that shows the picture of one of the combiners and lists it as being one of four "Inspired by BIONICLE" creations available on BIONICLE.com's Builder's Section without instructions but rather a single image, and also that they weren't seen on the LEGO Club website. So I went through the Wayback Machine for the Builder's Section page around this date and did indeed find four "Inspiration Models" without images saved. And clicking for a close-up gave more information. "Inspirational Model #1" uses Turahk, Vorahk & Guurahk so it matches the magazine-published combiner and states "Tip: Use the Rahkshi shoulder parts to create the body of this imposing character.". "Inspirational Model #2" uses Panrahk, Kurahk & Lerahk so it matches the BZPower listed image's combiner and states "Tip: Use Rahkshi back parts to create the long arms. Remember that good balance is the most important part of this model!". "Inspirational Model #3" uses Onua Nuva, Pahrak-Kal, Pohatu Nuva & Nuhvok-Kal so it must be the duo combiner and states "Tip: Using Onua Nuva and Pahrak-Kal, you can create the silver version of this Ape-like creature. By combining Pohatu Nuva and Nuhvok-Kal, you can also create his golden-faced twin!". And "Inspirational Model #4" uses Tahu Nuva and Kohrak-Kal so it must be the remaining combiner and states "Tip: Combine the various limbs of both Tahu Nuva and Kohrak-Kal to create extra-long legs!". So in terms of obscure and goofy, but LEGO-sanctioned combiners, we can also now add these guys to the continually growing list.
  10. This is pure speculation, no reason to hyperventilate. As this article clearly statesHero Factory wasn't exactly the hit LEGO hoped it to be, something further confirmed by the fact that after two years on the shelves the danish company was already thinking about replacing it (back in 2012, with BIONICLE of course). With the recent surge in CCBS popping out in System themes like Super Heroes and Star Wars I have the feeling that LEGO is testing as much as possible to see if CCBS may be profitable in other ways rather than the easiest one, aka by a CCBS-only theme. Now, the real question is: in case BIONICLE doesn't reach stellar sales, on HF levels if not lower, do you think that LEGO may pull the plug and let CCBS live only through System themes? Or they'll bite as long as they can with new themes until they hit the jackpot? (please note: I'm assuming for the sake of discussion that BIONICLE G2 will have average sales, I'm not stating it currently has average sales)
  11. In your opinion, which is the best designed Bionicle 2015 Skull Villains and the worst? For me, the best will be Skull Warrior. He has great weapons design and he very looks like a warrior to me. The worst will be Skull Scorpio. The way Skull Scorpio built is very lackluster and the legs are very bad- designed.

    Bionicle head with heterochromic eyes

It's my idea for a Bionicle head with two-pieces brain stalk, allowing to build characters with heterochromia which could be useful for making characters who are partially corrupted, for example.

    MOC: Toa Umbra

For the fifth anniversary of Klaanon project - Finnish multi-author Bionicle-ish novel project - I built one of our most important heroes, Umbra (No relation to the canon character with odd colors). Umbra is a Toa of light, armed with an Exo-Cannon and sword, but currently he's a bit low on the elemental energy. This has changed his usually bright yellow armor to partially black. I'm not sure of the color blocking on this one, but there are not that much Keetorange parts available on most of them are on Tongu anyway... More on the blog as always, enjoy!
  14. Title says it all, out of the vehicle sets LEGO gave us during G1's run which ones were the best? "Creature and rider" sets are included, as well as mechs, even if they may not be vehicles in the traditional sense. I apologize for the length of the list, vote on as many of them as you need to. Well, what are you waiting for? Vote! edit: the poll did not work, sorry. If an Admin could delete this thread, that would be good.

    Eyesaur

I've been pretty busy, but I finally found some time to build recently. (Thumbnail leads to larger image) A pun on the word "eyesore", this is a large plant monster that sees using it's petals. It will be part of a collab with Djokson (otherwise known as WARHEAD here).
  16. A lot of people think 2008 was the begging of the worst era for Bionicle. Why is that? Was it due to the poor storyline? Introduction of heavy silver?
  17. My modifications to skull villains and Ekimu. I especially wasn't fan of orange in other sets then Grinder, and Skull Scorpio (it was really bad set). 19. It's reported by Bionicle Wikia. Any source for this claim? I also read here on Eurobricks that GregF said back in 2007 that the Inika sold like crazy, and more or less so did the Piraka. This makes me wonder if all the bashing back then on 2007 had some reason to exist, since it looks like it was the year that killed BIONICLE (the cancellation was decided in early 2008).

    [MOC]Rack for Kanohi

Main idea was to add all the most characteristic Masks from original Bionicle. And since we don't get MoC in old Bio, I decided to use MoC from new Bio. I know it now looks a little too abundance, but for me it's nice section through the all old Bionicle (Bionicle in a nutshell), bottom is start of Bio and basis, then we have Light and Shadow masks, and at the top we have the Legendary Masks. Gallery: http://imgur.com/a/EPxGg
  21. Here is my modifications for all Toa Okoto that I made few month ago, since for me everyone have something to fix. I was trying to not making too big changes and left them as much original as I could. Big gallery: http://imgur.com/a/g7Acj Gali: - silver torso changed to gunmetal version, - gunmetal shells from arm changed to blue shells, - yellow pieces in axe changed to one gunmetal piece, and gold spear added to top of axe, - silver axe blades changed to gunmetal blades from Lewa, Tahu: - red mask changed to trans-orange mask, - silver feet changed to gold feet, - added red calf, - shorter legs for better fit to feet, - silver hands changed to trans-orange hands, - changed red simple torso to red detailed torso, Lewa: - changed green simple torso to green detailed torso, - rebuild of his axes (now it looks like axes), silver blades from Gali, - silver feet changed to green feet, - little shorter arms, Onua: - rebuild of his maul, - moving shoulders rebuild to stiff version, - silver torso changed to purple detailed torso, - extension to bones removed, and added longer bones instead of that, Pohatu: - silver shells from legs and arm changed to brown/dark orange shells, - silver hands changed to black hands, - longer legs, - silver armlet added to left arm, - trans-lime bones changed to black bones, Kopaka: - spear silver blade changed to ice blade, - shield new mount to hand, new position of shield, - silver torso changed to white detailed torso, - yellow gear rack changed to white gear rack, - trans-blue hands changed to white hands, - feet changed to Mata feet, - more slim calfs, Fight!
  22. I've been wanting to recreate Generation 1 characters in CCBS for a while. The main problem was that I wanted to use the old Mata heads (so I could fit both old masks and krana), but conventional methods of attaching said head to a CCBS torso looked ridiculous. Solution? Build a new torso. First up is Bingzak Kongu, displaying the Matoran build: I partially used the Mask of Light movie as a guide when building these; it mostly influences the neck and the shape of the arms. Full skeleton in the first picture. The second shows where the chest plate attachment and neck socket fit. The black bracket piece doesn't connect to the socket directly but it keeps it from jiggling around much. Can't say I care for the back much, but it's not an eyesore. Next up is Narmoto Vakama with the Turaga build: The Turaga are a bit more broad and wide than the Matoran to accommodate the sockets for the legs. Vakama features his stole from Mask of Light. Full skeleton along with a better shot of how the front and neck joint connect to the rest of the torso, similar to the Matoran build. Shot of the back. This is the biggest problem with the Turaga build: it's very boxy. Adding the stole (connected by the four exposed studs) helps somewhat. The light bley pieces will be changed to black once I get ahold of some. "Back! Back you foul creature! One more step or I'll--" (Wrong villain, I know, but ssshhh. ) You can really see how the back sticks out here. Again, not a fan, but I don't currently have a solution. Bonus: Turaga Korgot Whenua! Giving him his hunch was as easy as connecting the neck to the back of the head instead of the eyestalk. He needs Dark Bluish Gray hands but those will have to wait until I get some. Thanks for looking! Comments and critiques are highly appreciated.
  23. Hey all! If any of you have been following my Flickr, you would have known this topic was coming from all the MOC's I've been posting there for the past few days But anyway, I present to you the fruit of my latest MOC project, codename CCBS, or Creepy Creeps from Below the Surface. Or basically, the Barraki but remade in CCBS (pause for inevitable groans). The Barraki have always been my favourite of all the Gen 1 villains, it's no secret. And Takadox will forever remain my favourite G1 character. So I thought it was high time I gave them a complete CCBS overhaul to celebrate that fact. It pretty much started by making a CCBS Takadox, but it soon escalated into me wanting to remake all the warlords in CCBS form. I wanted to keep as close to the original set's appearance as possible, down to replicating the limb lengths and colours in the right places, but doing that only using CCBS parts (aside from the head, weapons and sometimes the feet). A full gallery including alternate views of all models can be found here. So, without further ado, time for some pictures, complete with descriptions taken straight from Flickr: Takadox: Here is my favourite of all the Barraki first of all: Takadox! In some respects he is the hardest of the Barraki to replicate in CCBS, due to the only Dark Blue parts in CCBS being Skull Spider masks and zero Trans-Fluorescent Blue CCBS parts. I still really like how he turned out, even if he now wears Skull Spiders and has a lot of his Dark Blue replaced with Black. Pridak: Here's the second Barraki in the series: Pridak. Out of all the CCBS renditions, Pridak is probably the closest to his original set appearance, given his waist articulated torso translates very well into CCBS. I also tried custom built feet to try and replicate his original feet. I was going to use the original feet but then I saw the Protector feet on my Master Wu Dragon and immediately saw the similarities, so brick built them. Ehlek: Here is the third Barraki: Ehlek! He was originally my first Barraki set. This Ehlek is probably a bit bigger than his original incarnation due to using 2 CCBS bones instead of a Technic liftarm for his body (a technique I'd used on Takadox as well). I was going to use Ehlek's original feet for this, but I didn't have any in my collection so kinda had to settle for Beast feet given I couldn't find a custom solution I liked. Mantax: This is Mantax, who probably has the most unique build of the 6 and thus was a little challenge to get right. If you look closely, the shape of the original build is imitated in CCBS using a blend of Takadox's CCBS build and a 9x9 torso. This is probably one of my favourite of the builds as I think it almost perfectly replicates the original Mantax build. Kalmah: Here is Kalmah, the first of the two Barraki with a more standard humanoid build (or "the Inika build" as I so often see it termed). I have tried to replicate the general shape and colour segregation of the torso in the original set as much as possible here, even if it has resulted in Kalmah perhaps putting on a little bit of extra weight I probably would have put more dark red shells on the sides of the torso, but I ran out of dark red shells as Kalmah relies heavily on dark red in his colour scheme. Carapar: Finally, here's the last of the Barraki: Carapar. He was always the strong and armoured one out of the Barraki, so I made sure that was reflected in his CCBS iteration. The colour is perhaps the most difficult to get right, given that Carapar's marbled olour was uniqque to that set. I eventually settled with a combination of Pearl Gold and Keetorange, the Pearl Gold since it is the closest match to Carapar's head colour, and Keetorange because, well, he featured that colour in the original set. Carapar is also one of the few models I've made to incorporate a Technic function, pushing together two Technic bushes on his claw causes them to open, then the claw snaps shut when you let go. Well, hoped you liked looking at my renditions of Barraki in CCBS. Comments and constructive feedback will be much appreciated. Also, don't forget to throw in a vote for your favourite revamps in the poll (it's multiple choice by the way), and feel free to explain your choices in a comment
  24. I apologize if I formatted the poll wrong. First time I've used one IIRC. I also apologize if this topic shouldn't exist. I've seen both love and hate for the later years of BIONICLE, and I'm curious as to what the older fans (the ones that were actually there for them) think of them. So, after 5+ years to weigh the pros and the cons of each year what do you guys think of them? edit: modified the poll
