  1. I'd like to present the Cast Iron Building, which was inspired by the cast iron buildings in New York This was one of the eight buildings in The Promenade, which was my individual layout for Brickworld in Chicago last month. I have built it several times now - the original build, a rebuild for the instructions to make sure I could put it together at BrickWorld, setting it up as part of my layout and then again this weekend to take photos. So, I'm a little over it! Hence, no interior and also no proper name, as this is always inspired by what's inside the building. Here it is as part of The Promenade (credit for the image goes to RoxYourBlox): Thanks for looking. Comments and suggestions always welcome!
  2. I would like to present my newest modular building, the Beloved Belle, which is named after the wedding dress shop on the ground floor. There are also two fully furnished apartments that are accessed via the rear of the building. The building was inspired by the balconies of beautiful Bilbao, Spain, but I think the overall look ended up quite different. A closer look at the shop front: The back: The wedding dress shop: First floor apartment: (The box thingie with an antenna is meant to be an old-fashioned TV) Second floor apartment: The attic, which hasn't been opened in a while: This building is my first corner building. It is also the first one where the features (i.e. windows) are not symmetrical, which took quite a bit of internal struggle before I was able to cope with it!! More images on flickr. C&C welcome!

    Modular building

The main building of our modular layout of the city with children
  4. Previously I made a MOC modular building, a bank, which has a piece of land on its side waiting for construction. It was to be a restaurant and finally it is done! It is not a big one as it only takes half of the 32x32 plate, but it contains what all the Lego citizens' needs for food! This building is a break from the typical European style that prevails in the original Lego modular building sets. I think a city should be developing, advancing, and things change including building styles. I tried some new elements here, with a more open façade (basically removing the façade for balconies and setting back the entrance), while taking a cleaner approach on detailing. Quick overview with the bank on its side: Let's go inside now! The entrance on the G/F floor is set back a little for a bar area. This is where people gather at night especially on Fridays! I also try sliding doors for the entrance :) At the entrance, you will see a little fridge next to a green counter. On the other side is a cake rack. In the morning, there will be breads for those who want to grab a quick breakfast. 1/F is a restaurant. Utensils are stored neatly. Someone is celebrating her birthday with friends! Well that's a huge cake! The other half of 1/F is a balcony area for semi-open dining experience. Looks like someone is not pleased when serving a rich man... "Hey that's not the tips I am hoping for..." The top floor is also a restaurant area, with an open grill kitchen. Look at the hood! Now an overview with some of my modular buildings, which are easy to recognize. The building style is a little different but still, to me, harmonious with the others. Hope you all like this creation! Let me know if you have any comment on how I can improve this!
  5. I fell in love with canal houses since the first day of my Amsterdam trip this may, and started designing it next morning after return. I did my best to keep all the distinctive features of a canal house. First off all, you can notice that the canal houses are narrow and deep. They were designed so to minimize taxes, which, at that time, depended on the width of facade. Amsterdam is situated on a swamp land, therefore facades were built of light bricks with large windows to reduce the weight. Another interesting feature with windows is that they become shorter from ground floor to the top. This makes an illusion that building is higher than it actually is. Also note some kind of a plaque just above the door. Three hundred years ago, only small percent of people could read, and plaques helped to identify name or profession of the owner. Because canal houses were built narrow, staircases were also narrow, making it a big problem to take furniture and goods up. To solve the problem hooks were placed on the top of the house, allowing to lift what you need and pass it through the window. Red bike. Thanks to many factors, like flat terrain, narrow streets and desire to decrease car-accident deaths Amsterdam became one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world. Nowadays there are more than 400 km of bike paths and 1 200 000 bicycles (even more than citizens). About 100 000 of them are stolen each year, and therefore our bike is securely locked. Pls support this canal house on Lego Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/83275 (You could also find there story behind the building and more pics, in higher quality)
  6. A row of townhouses in colours that are good enough to eat. I originally built one of these in Dark Orange, but couldn't resist using these delicious colours for the final street!

    MOC: Police Station (WIP)

Hey guys, My newest project is a Police Station for my Lego town. It's still a work in progress; need to get a few more windows and the interior needs some major work. Quick overview shot Right Side Left Side (This is where I need more windows) Ground Floor Second Floor (Needs an actual interior) Third Floor (could still use a little work) That's it for now. I'll update with interior pics later. Any suggestions for what to put in that blank space on the second floor? And any ways to change the middle part of the roof over the balcony area? Not quite sure how to go about making that look better. Comments always appreciated. Thanks!

    MOD: Town Hall 10224 XL

I dare not call this XXL, having seen what others have created. But nevertheless, this is my standalone version of the Town Hall. The TH was actually my very first modular and a good choice at the time – it was the grandest building of them all. The play features are virtually zero, which doesn't bother me at all. Later on, when I got more modular buildings, I started to feel that the Town Hall doesn't belong in the same row of buildings as all the rest. It needs to stand alone, akin to the Hill Valley courthouse that the Town Hall reminds me so much of. And with a square in front. However, I didn't get to buying a second set since there was always something more interesting, something more urgent etc. Finally, with all the rumours of the TH being retired, I decided to get the second set. So here's the façade. Looks like the CMF judge has found his way to the second floor balcony. And the flower vendor has parked his cart right outside – I wonder why. Let's see if there's something fishy going on. I wanted to add some windows to the side walls, since they aren't wall-to-wall with other buildings anymore. The window desing is simply copied from the back of the building. I left a sidewalk on these sides as well, together with some flower beds. I run out of pink flowers, that's why there's a white one in the middle of all the pink ones. There's also a double door leading straight to the great hall. The back is true to the original, with extra windows added. Looks like there's a second elevator shaft as well, since there are two sets of these small double doors. But the actual back door has been removed in favor of the double doors on the side of the building. And the (boring) interior, starting with the third floor. Basically just the original interior with minor additions. And only one elevator! The mayor's office has been extended and carpet is a little bigger. There's also a sitting area in the lobby, as well as a second desk for the clerks. Still only one elevator. The ground floor. With two elevators! My little and stupid joke... This second elevator is a fake, and is obviously used for something seedy – like smuggling. So this is where the flower vendor places all those hidden barrels of cookies and candy whenever the mayor feels like he has the munchies. The great hall is being prepared for a wedding sermony and reception, and they've ordered the largest wedding cake ever – straight from Heart Lake City (news van). Hope you like it! And don't be too upset about the cookie smuggling thing – I just had to horse around a little.

    [MOC] Record Store (Modular Building)

Hey there it's finally time for me to present my second modular MOC, the Record Store: If this building seems oddly familiar, it' no surprise - it takes a lot of inspiration from cimddwc's outstanding Chima Trikes Store. Back when I started designing this building in LDD I asked him wether it would be ok to use his creation as inspiration, and he gave his consent. Thanks again, cimddwc! Some facts about this building: ~ 3550 pieces ~ 47cm height Designed in LDD between December 16th and December 31st, 2014 Piece aquisition and building during January 2015, one final BL order for some minor changes arrived last week. This is the second modular building I created. The first was my Hat Shop that I presented here roughly a year ago. During the last year, I built some more of the official modulars, including a bricklinked Blue Grocer and a customised Cafe Corner, both of which I enjoyed very much. Towards the end of the year, I got itchy to build something again. First I thought I'd get two copies of Detective's Office and mod them into something bigger, but in the end, I wanted to be more creative. I still don't have much of a collection of modern parts, so I gave LDD a try. Never having used LDD before, I decided to use an existing MOC as inspiration/starting point. Cimddwc's Chima Trikes Store was an obvious choice there, as for me it is one of the most memorable and iconic designs that were posted here in recent months. I also really liked the color scheme based around cool yellow, so I used that as well. You can find lots of buildings in similar colors in german cities. I quickly got the hang of LDD, the only thing that was frustrating at first was getting the rounded tower to work. I designed the principal building in roughly two weeks. I took care to check parts availability on those parts I wasn't sure existed in my wanted color, but still had to do some minor changes when I ordered the parts from bricklink. I aquired about 2700parts in 8 BL orders, the rest came from my existing collection. Some of the cool yellow parts I had to order from France, the rest I managed to get from sellers in Germany. But enough babble, let's take a closer look at the builing! There are a few additional pictures at flickr, also you can view higher resolution versions there: https://www.flickr.c...57648369659184/ (That won't improve my mediocre photographing skills, though ) A back view. The building uses up almost the entire baseplate. The windows of the upper floors were one of two points where LDD fooled me. The original design that held up the 2x1 cheese slopes to either side of the windows was impossible to do in real life. Originally I had planned a different design for the door, but though it worked in LDD, it didn't work in real life. I changed it around a few times, and I'm quite satisfied with the final result. The ground floor features an old fashioned record store where you can buy vinyl LPs. You also can pre-listen to the albums in the store, something that was very common before the advent of the internet (there's still some shops that allow this, but there are much fewer record stores in general...). The walls are decorated with some musical instruments. I really wanted to get one or two of the black Flying V guitars, but they were imposiible to find at reasonable prices . Looking at the patron's and owner's haircuts makes me wonder if Al from Al's barber shop is a one trick pony... There's a small back office behind the door. As the whole desk area is covered by the stairs, I took a picture of it during building. The two upper floors contain an apartment each. Both feature an open floor design with a separate bathroom. First floor: The bathroom is pretty small, and in true Lego modular fashion, it misses a toilet: Second floor: The guy living on this floor propably is a customer of Al's aswell... Again, only a very small bathroom. But, thank god, he has a toilet! I guess he can visit the couple downstairs if he needs a shower, while in return they don't have to venture to the brown townhouse next to the Pet Shop or the Detective's Office when nature calls... The roof has a skylight above the kitchen/dining area. Finally, some comparison shots with other modulars. The roof of my Record Store is just about the same height as the righthand part of Green Grocer. I hope you enjoyed looking at my MOC! I sure had a lot of fun designing and building it!

    [MOC] Book Store

Hey guys, I'd like to present my modular Book Store. It's a little smaller than the other modulars, but I like it. No interior yet, don't usually like them, but for a book store, I might have to put in some books. A picture with one of my other MOCs and the PS. (Sorry for the potato quality) With more of my modulars. This is a temporary setup, as my shelf had to be off my wall because of construction on my house. Thanks for looking!
  14. I have been spread pretty thin and have been trying to work on this MOC of a wine and spirits store, with a two level apartment/flat above it. I want to take more photos of it and the interior, but only had time to take a couple of the facade. The ground level is the store, and above, reached by exterior stairs is a flat with living on the first floor and a bedroom and roof terrace on the 2nd. I would be interested in what everyone thinks of how it looks. I finally got the roof on today, but it still needs the sign over the entrance and some small details added. Already, the firefighters from next door are looking inside (they are having a bbq on the roof of the Fire Brigade building next door.) :-) Thanks for any constructive crit. :-) I will post more photos of the interior and rear soon.

Hi, this is one of my works: St Marck's Campanile at venice! Just 20.000 pieces :-) ahah You can see also the entrance of CAMPANILE: Loggetta del Sansovino and the bells! There are some good solution for example The corner for inverted slope and the roof! I hope you can enjoy with it and if you want instructions you can get it at my store on Bricklink: http://www.bricklink...e.asp?p=ste2208 Here some photos: https://www.flickr.c...57645274257447/
  17. The Laundry Mat is the second business on the same plot as the The Red Brick Pizza Oven. After the move we decided to remove Bill's Bike Repair Shop and insert in a new business that wasn't previously represented in the city - and Sydney thought we needed a laundromat. So here it is, hope you enjoy it... As usual there are more pics here and here.
  18. The Red Brick Pizza Oven was the first modular MOC that we built for our city. It was originally an amalgamation of three City Corner (7641) sets. Following the City Corner template there was a pizzeria and a bike repair shop on the same plot. At the time parts were scarce so the interiors were a bit sparse - even lacking tiled floors. So, after the move we had a great opportunity to give the old girl a bit of a face lift. The new building has a laundromat (to be posted shortly) instead of the bike repair shop and some minor upgrades to the internal facilities. Hope you enjoy. The old exterior... A quick look at the old interiors... And now on to the new shots! As always there are tons more pictures here and here.

    NY Skyscraper

This is one of my project for a Lego skyscraper. Really a simple design but with good particular!!! 16.000 Bricks! The instructions are ready for brave constructor!!! The Skyscraper have an internal structure to make it stable! You can find it also on rebrickable.com Here you can find instructions http://www.bricklink...e.asp?p=ste2208 and here some photos! https://www.flickr.c...57644274500974/
  20. Here is the original topic for the Apple Square University. Edit: instructions no longer available.
  21. The Lego Farm set (7637) was literally the first 'official' set my daughter and I started with. What started as a fun little set in the middle of the dinning room table has grown into what is Godwins Hollow today - in just a few years - so Lockridge Farms quite literally is the cornerstone of our city. This is the farm house in the center of the farm. As always, if you'd like to see more feel free to click here or here.
  22. This is our take on a little town travel agency. When pulling together our ideas for the place we ran across some really awesome 'vintage' travel posters for fictional locations so we decided to do a two sided travel agency - downstairs you can book traditional travel and vacations and upstairs we can book you into almost any fantasy vacation imaginable. From Hogwarts and Middle Earth to Arakis and Pandora to the worlds of Star Wars, Serenity, and Star Trek. We tried to make some displays for the window and feel we got the gist of it right but may try to fine tune them a bit in the future - downstairs we have a tropical island/cruise thing going on and upstairs there's a rocket to a ringed planet. Anyways, hope you enjoy. As always, if you'd like to see more feel free to click here or here.
  23. Here is the original topic for the Pumpkin Factory. Edit: instructions are no longer available.
  24. I finally managed to complete this amazing project, which is to build my own studio. Behold, this is not just another modular building exercise. As an architect (not a LEGO architect but real architect, haha), I want to put what I learnt in school and work to the brick city. I went through the typical architectural process, from sketching to form study to actual building it, and it was fun! The idea comes from the basic LEGO bricks. If we can use the bricks for form study in architectural model, what if it grows and becomes the building? Also, during brick building, we actually just do two basic operations: addition and subtraction. Through these operations, spaces and voids are formed and make openings and skylights. This is what this studio is presenting. The new studio is not just a landmark in the city, but a milestone. It does not just create a building for functions and sit in the brick city, but it sets a new path and inject design culture into the town. Now let's take a look at the contemporary architecture style! (here I use the typical architectural presentation style, please enjoy!) I hope all of you enjoy this architectural project! Thanks! EDITED: My LEGO studio is finally up on LEGO Ideas, and please help and vote for it. Once it has 10000 votes, it will be assessed by LEGO to see if it can be a real product. Support me now, thanks!!! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/67217
