    (WIP), My Corner Fire Brigade

Hi again! Here to show my work in progress my modular 64x32 corner fire brigade. I tried to do something a little unique compared to other FB mods, and I don't see many corner mods. I'm going to rip apart a lot of it later to tweak some seams and get a sturdier design in some areas. I don't particularly like my bell tower, and will probably redesign the whole thing to make it....blockier. Sorry about the picture size. I'm riding the strugglebus today. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/CSIguy/FireBrigadeMod/091320141003.jpg
  2. Octan Travel Agent/Cupcake Shop My economically depressed Lego city is continuing its long walk into dereliction and abandonment. But there are the occasional signs of life! In one corner of the city some fool one has decided to use the old Octan Travel Agency and turn the ground floor into a Cupcake shop. The facade has the real feel of an aircraft's fuselage and comes complete with two fluffy white clouds*. The Travel Agency hasn't been in use since the 1990s and you may notice the entrance door high up on the second floor. But the previous owners did leave the Airport Stairs behind. Again, though this is dilapidated and neglected. Here's the interior of the Cupcake shop. (Mostly liberated from a Friends Cafe set) One final shot of the Airport Stairs. Oh, and I posted an early version of the Travel Agents on my LUGS Facebook page to get suggestions and feedback. I received ideas ranging from adding a short stubby wing and adding a sun. But my favorite comment was from one member suggested that I create a sticker with "Every Wing is Awesome". Now that's the perfect slogan for Octan Travel! Comments, criticism, ridicule most welcome! *I was going to embed The Orb's "Fluffy White Cloud". I might still do.
  3. Long time lurker, first time poster here. I got myself a fancy account and everything. So I finally got around to starting my own MOD, since I figured it was a good segue into making my own custom modular buildings. I'm working on a full on expansion to the Fire Brigade. I want it 64x32, with one end being a corner. I don't see too many 64x32 buildings on a corner, and I wanted to do something a little more unique than adding another floor or just extending the same design outwards like I see with many FB mods. The problem I'm coming too is angled walls. I would like a 45 degree wall on the corner, but nothing seems to be working out. Does anyone have any good recommended guides for angled walls, or maybe a technique in LDD they could show me? I'm truly stumped. I had a really good curved wall similar to what is shown in the Helm's Deep sets, but it didn't feel like it matched the FB motif. Finally, I would like some advice on roads. While I prefer brick built roads, I'd rather put my resources towards my buildings and just use road plates. The problem I come to it that if I use the sidewalk with the modulars plus the side walk on the roads it seems too wide, but if I build the modular on top of the side walk in the plate, the streets seem very narrow and tight. Any advice? Look forward to showing off my MOD once it's worthy of your guys' eyes. I admire the work I see here so much.

    MOC: Oriental Building

Oriental Building My economically distressed Lego city has now developed a nascent oriental neighborhood that's getting full of some mashed-up eastern cultured cliched buildings. So, following on from my Chu Nails building http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98216 and the Octan Travel Agent/Cupcake shop http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98468 I'd like to now present my new Oriental Building. I was aiming for a building where you could purchase a Gremlin on Christmas Eve on the ground-floor, where Kurt Russell gets into a fight on the middle floor and where Uma Thurman can get taught by Pai Mei on the rooftop terrace. I wanted something that was a bit offset from the street so that it looked mysterious and didn't stand out from it's neighbors. I failed. And here's the rooftop terrace. Many of the parts were liberated from a Ninjago Temple of Light Set. And finally a closer shot of the facade. There's currently no interiors. Thanks for reading! Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome!

    Retro Arcade & Games

Hi everyone! I`ve just put my Retro Arcade & Games MOC out at Lego Ideas. This is a design I´ve made by my own and I wanted to catch a kinda middle-1990`s-feeling of games and LAN. My brother founded a Internet Cafe back in 1995 and it was the first place in our town to offer LAN gaming/LAN parties and easy internet access for everyone. PacMan was a 80`s thing and I don`t know about you but I sure played the game a lot into the 90` as well. That is the reason for a potential mismatch. There`s three coin-op machines in the 2nd floor. It`s easy to add more by removing the LANcomputers. I`m born in 1979 so I remember both decades very well and have a lot of good childhood memories. The pictures speak for themselves but I`ve used a 16 x 32 baseplate and the building consist of approx 850 pieces. I think this would be a fun and great addition to any Lego City! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/78146 Thank you

MOD: City Bank & Cash Transfer 3661

Hello all, Here is my modification of 3661. I started out wanting to turn it into a modular building and got rather carried away, so it is a corner modular 32 x 32. Hope you like it, and more pics available on my flickr page (link in my signature) Overall shot The top floor is the manager's office, with the bank vault next to it, of course with the key pad so only employees can enter. As you can see, lots of goodies in the vault. (Unfortunately i'm still waiting for the dark blue tiles to go on the floor) And all the floors. More pics on my flickr account (link below) and comments welcome
  7. I bought Pet Shop but instead of buying just more sets I really want to build my own modular but I am really stuck on where to start. I have tons of ideas my only issue is actual bricks. I want to build an Irish pub to attach to my Pet Shop so obviously lots of dark green and brown floors, I was planning a two story building. Now the issue comes as I was looking on pick a brick and I just don't know how many of each brick to order. I am unsure of the amounts of like plates, smooth pieces, windows and everything in general. So what do you guys recommend? Just buy tons of random pieces and hope it works out? I am more one to order everything specifically but I cannot like picture the pieces I will need. Also what kind of baseplate do you guys recommend for this? I want it to be able to connect to my Pet Shop so i don't know what size plate
  8. I've been building all kinds of Lego (and Lego-compatible) brick sets this year, the space shuttle, some architecture sets, a number of creator and town planes, monuments (by other brands), the BTTF Car and Ecto 1, and some big Technic sets. I have never done any of the Creator Modular sets- wondering if anyone has an opinion on the best one to start with?

    MOC - Modular Florist

Hi everyone This is my first time posting one of my creations on here, its a florist with a small apartment and roof terrace. Let me know what you think Enjoy! Outside Shop Apartment Terrace Check out more pics on my photostream
  10. I have begun work on my first modular building. It is currently under construction next to the Palace Cinema. The ground floor is open for business. The front Octan_Ice_Cream_01 Sitting beside the Cinema Octan_Ice_Cream_02 Jo serving customers Octan_Ice_Cream_03 Cold drinks are available as well. Octan_Ice_Cream_04 There is a small office behind the shop, and there will be an apartment above with access from the rear laneway. Comments and crits welcome as this is my first building moc!
  11. The Laundry Mat is the second business on the same plot as the The Red Brick Pizza Oven. After the move we decided to remove Bill's Bike Repair Shop and insert in a new business that wasn't previously represented in the city - and Sydney thought we needed a laundromat. So here it is, hope you enjoy it... As usual there are more pics here and here.
  12. The Red Brick Pizza Oven was the first modular MOC that we built for our city. It was originally an amalgamation of three City Corner (7641) sets. Following the City Corner template there was a pizzeria and a bike repair shop on the same plot. At the time parts were scarce so the interiors were a bit sparse - even lacking tiled floors. So, after the move we had a great opportunity to give the old girl a bit of a face lift. The new building has a laundromat (to be posted shortly) instead of the bike repair shop and some minor upgrades to the internal facilities. Hope you enjoy. The old exterior... A quick look at the old interiors... And now on to the new shots! As always there are tons more pictures here and here.

    MOC: Modular LEGO Store

Hello, fellow Eurobrickers! It's been a long time since I last built a modular building - the last one was the B&W Building I built for the Modular Madness contest two years ago. But I've been wanting a #3300003 LEGO Brand Retail Store set for a while, the set that has been handed out to customers at LEGO store openings: And since there are no LEGO stores in Norway and I haven't been able to go anywhere to attend a store opening I bit the bullet and bought one off BrickLink. That inspired me. I toyed with the idea of scaling it up to minifig scale, because it seemed to have potential as a modular building - and as I needed a corner building for a display I was putting together at the time, that's what it ended up as. I'll give you some exterior shots first: LEGO Store 1 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 2 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 9 by L@go, on Flickr And then some detail shots. There are two main exterior details: The sculpture of the classic 2x4 brick on the pavement outside and the skylights, which are also found in the miniature set - but I scaled the brick-style windows up from 2x3 to 2x4, as that's a more iconic LEGO shape. LEGO Store 10 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 14 by L@go, on Flickr When the roof is removed you can see that the skylights are actually transparent and will let light into the building. LEGO Store 19 by L@go, on Flickr The standout feature of the interior is probably the Pick-a-Brick wall, which I tried several solutions for before I ended up with this. But I think this is what works best on this level: LEGO Store 21 by L@go, on Flickr There's also a Build-a-Minifig stand and a wall with shelves full of set boxes. Ideally, I would have printed stickers for the boxes, but for now they only have the different colours that represent different themes - among others, there are Duplo, Friends, Chima, NinjaGo, City, Technic, and Architecture boxes here. And there's a LUG showcase display with a tiny robot model in it. LEGO Store 26 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 25 by L@go, on Flickr One of the things I had the most fun with on the way to finishing this MOC, was building miniature versions of actual LEGO sets for display in the store. Maybe you can recognise them - there are six in total: LEGO Store 15 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 16 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 23 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 28 by L@go, on Flickr And finally, some pictures with minifigs - let's start with a friendly LEGO Store employee (which wasn't exactly cheap, either - there are three of them in this MOC...): LEGO Store 29 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 31 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 35 by L@go, on Flickr LEGO Store 36 by L@go, on Flickr It seems LEGO Club Max is really a pretty lazy fellow who'll use any excuse to get away and slack for a bit, even though he gets paid to hang around and talk to the kids. Luckily, this guy is there to give him a stern talking to: LEGO Store 37 by L@go, on Flickr And that's it! There's more pictures in this folder on Flickr, if you're interested. Thanks for watching, hope you like it - any comments are more than welcome :)

  15. Hi all, I would just like to start this thread to see what the general feeling is with regards to LED lighting in city/town vehicles and streets. Basically what would like to see in a city rescue vehicle? Would you like flashing lights on the top of the police/fire/ambulance/rescue vehicle and headlight/tail lights that stay on and would you want the LEDs to be controlled from a remote or just switched on/off on the vehicle? Likewise with street lighting. What would you want from LED lamp posts? I'm opening this discussion after seeing this video and wondering how popular this would be and if it was commercially available would you buy it? Many thanks Happy Building Neil
  16. Palace Carpets I really liked the 10232 Palace Theatre, but it's faux-orientalism and old-timey roaring twenties glittery feel didn't look right in my economically distressed town. So, after years of neglect it's reopened as a Carpet and Flooring showroom. The original decorative facade had been covered in stucco and years of dirt, many of the wrought iron features had been sold for scrap. The roof had had a fire, but the new owner's are renovating. It's undergoing some last touch-ups here and there... And the roof looks like it's had some fire damage. And there's still a lot of the crumbling facade to fix and there's a bunch of burned out lights to replace but the doors are open and customers are shopping. Carpet rolls on the walls, circular rugs to one side, and a fine collection of area rugs. The window display. And on the second floor even more carpets - although clearly these are the designs and colors that are not selling well. One final shot! Remember for all your carpeting and flooring needs come and see us at Palace Carpets! Comments, criticism and ridicule welcome!

    MOC: Chu Nail Salon

Chu Nail Salon I had been building a single level Oriental Restaurant and was close to finishing when Toorayay posted his Octopus Restaurant http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97675. Mine wasn't to that high level so I quickly had to come up with an alternative. So, I made some minor changes to the facade, added an additional level, changed the SNOT Lettering, ditched the interior in its entirety and came up with... Chu Nails! Here's details of the SNOT lettering. I wanted something that looked signage on a cheap hotel. There's a combination of right way up and upside down vertical and horizontal connections clipped onto the cattle grid background. Details of the front entrance. I was looking for an abstract Nail display and one of the earlier iterations had nail brushes moving via technic gears and axles and although it functioned it looked too Heath Robinson to remain. The interior. This shows the foot-bath, nail table, overhead lighting and a couple of mirrored tables (stolen from a Friends set) And a view from the other angle showing the waiting room - complete with L shaped sectional sofa, fish tank and potted plant and restroom. And a final shot of Chu Nail's during Chinese New Year Thanks for reading. Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome!

    Police

Hi! This is a police kind building. I would like to build something next to the Fire Brigade as a Police HQ which has similar style. It is rather an investigation bureau, but i dont want that kind of crime in my Lego City which needs LBI:-). I'm not 100% satisfied with it, maybe the color of the black ornaments will be changed on the fascade of the first floor. Any comments are welcome. than you Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr Police by atkaforce1, And finally a picture about the look next to a FB and a House House_and_Police by atkaforce1, on Flickr

    MOC: Modular Curry Station

First real post of a MOC in the town forum, I present to you "トレイン カレー" or "Train Curry". This a a small restaurant inspired by the real life "Curry Station Niagara" in Yutenji, Tokyo where my girlfriend and I spent an extremely nice evening as the only customesr during the 2nd worst snowstorm to hit Tokyo this year. If you are ever in Tokyo, I highly recommend a visit as the Station Master (yes he really is one) is extremely friendly and your tasty curry is delivered by toy train. More info on the inspiration for this build can be found here: http://www.facebook....station.niagara So time for a tour. The outside Here you see the building from all sides, its a short blocky 2-story affair. It was built on a 16x16 plate, with a 4 stud overhang on the left side for the stairs to the 2nd floor and a 1 stud overhang for the frontage. It will sit into a 16x16 recess on my train layout, hence no street detail around the building in these shots. The reason for all the 1x1 headlight brick holes will become clear shortly. The sign on the front is my best attempt at brick built Katakana (Japanese alphabet used for western words). Really "train" should be "densha" not "to-re-i-n" however that would call for some Kanji (Chinese style characters) that just could not be realised in the space available. I was tempted to just build 'curry' in western script but thought I'd have a go like this first; let me know what you think! A close up of the steam engine front end in the bay window: I wish I had a window piece without the burger on, but I just cant bring myself to use the poleesh remover of naieel. I'm also hoping to find a better sign for the level crossing post. The inside Having never seen the upstairs of the building that served as inspiration, I settled for a generic small flat interior with compact bathroom (shower and toilet) and an open living area: It looks quite spacious as there is no bed (assume there is a futon stashed away somewhere) and no kitchen (but then there is already a restaurant downstairs, perhaps though I should MOC a rice cooker). The robot is there just because. The Restaurant I tried to pack the restaurant full of memorabilia, picking some key features from the real life inspiration such as the ticket machine where you order your meal, the train number plates all over the walls, the ticket window and station clock, and of course the toy train track around the room for curry delivery. Now you see the reason for all the 1x1 headlights; how I wish Pick a Brick sold 1x1 with stud on side in brown. If I ever get hold of some minifig roller-skates I will build a small train for making curry deliveries, but for now the track is empty. The ever happy station master talks to his patrons: Behind the white wall is a small stove for making curry, In reality there is a bathroom here and the building extends back further into a small kitchen. I had no room for such though (my layout has a train running directly behind the building with only 2 stud clearance). I also forgot to re-assemble the top of the wall for this shot! The right hand wall swings away providing a minifig's eye view: A final shot from behind the bar, a spare station master cap sits on the luggage rack for patrons to wear: And finally here it is in my layout: (see http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=95715 for more on the train layout itself) Thanks for taking the time to look at my MOC. Comments and suggestions welcome.

    MOC City panorama

My largest MOC so far, a diorama showing a section from the city. The main elements of the city are the houses, a road with tram tracks and a canal. The leftmost house has a small florist shop under the arches. There is a bus stop in front of the red house and an ATM. The nearby house is currently being renovated. To the right is a typical Victorian house and a zebra crossing in front of it. Across the road you can find a bike rack, a telephone booth and a tram stop. The bridges connect both sides of the canal. A road crosses it on the older stone bridge... ...while the pedestrians can use a new footbridge nearby. Florist shop Tram stop Tram stop shelter with ticket machine Zebra crossing Bus stop ATM Telephone booth Bike rack A popular way to see the city is taking a boat tour, with the tourists eager to capture every moment with their cameras. Rear view, nothing special apart from some creative use of dark green bricks. The entire thing is 127x71 cms in size (3x5 standard baseplates 32x32) and took about 9.000 bricks and 100 hours to build. Although designated as MOC, some elements are taken from official sets and other creations: - both cars are from Cargo Train - the street sweeper is OOB - the bus is red-coloured MOD from City Corner - the pram is taken from Green Grocer - the ATM is borrowed from this creation More pictures here.
  21. This is the last interior redesign of the Main Strip Strip Mall collection. Our veterinary clinic has a small waiting area where you pick up pet supplies, the clinic area, and a small boarding area connected to a small outdoor dog run. Hope you enjoy. A quick shot of the old interior by the Brick City Depot folks. Our new interiors... As usual if you'd like to see more click here and here.

  23. During the move we've had a lot of opportunity to move things around, think about additions to the city, and of course update older buildings. Years ago we asked the great folks over at Brick City Depot to put together a strip mall for our layout. Originally located opposite our row of modulars the strip mall has floated around the layout a few different times. Most recently we broke it up a bit and the five original buildings (and one new one soon to be posted) are now flanking the soon to be built Main Street Plaza Hotel. The flagship store of the mall used to be a clothing store. Having several others in the city we decided to rebrand and repurpose the store into a photo studio and SAS Photo Studios was born. Below are a few photos of the build - hope you enjoy. As usual, you can see more here and here.
  24. After highlighting several of the buildings in the strip mall we thought we should post up a few shots of the whole strip mall together. The mall is situated around what will be the Main Street Plaza Hotel and since the hotel is obviously not done the mall as a whole has a few more pieces that need to be put into place but only after the hotel is up. Just making excuses for the unfinished nature of the layout area. For more feel free to check out our Flickr feed.
  25. The End Zone is the second (of four) building that is part of the Main Street Strip Mall that's getting an interior update. Unlike the SAS Photo Studio which was re-purposed the End Zone was simply re-branded and the interior beefed up a bit. Hope you enjoy. The exterior of the shop is the work of the fine folks over at Brick City Depot. The shop's old interior... The shop's new interior... The display in the front window... The store clerk and a happy customer... As always for more you can click here and here.
