    [MOC] Lady of Lórien

Hello The MELO goes in the second Round. And here is my entry to the given quote: "Your quest runs on the edge of a knife, stray but a little, and it will fail." I took the opportunity to try my hands on a iconic Lothlorien treehouse with the typical elvish architecture. More pictures of the scene on MOCpages Jonas.

    Balins Tomb

Hello All, Here is my entry into the Middle Earth Lego OIympics over on Mocpages. Barad Dur Bracket: Category: "A shadow lurks in the dark. We cannot get out...they are coming." I am facing the very talented opponent Josh Walter, and his amazing entry. Man, I have to stop with these last minute entries, they are robbing me of all my sleep. :P So this was built in around 3 hours, I did not get as much detail as I wanted, but I am alright with it. So this is a creation from both my imagination and from the movie. The lines in the floor, and some of the minifigs were all from my imagination, but the rest I tried to stay true to the movie. Enjoy! Artistic Photo, no photoshop! Soli Deo Gloria! ~Matthew~

  5. So now that the sets from the second Hobbit wave have been out for awhile, which is everyone's favorite and why? Personally I am torn. I think Mirkwood Elf Army has some nice figures but the build's not that impressive. Lake-town Chase has a much better build that is more accurate to the film but the figures aren't as good (but they still are very nice). I like that Dol Guldur Ambush has hair and ears for the orcs and Beorn is a nice minifigure, and of course Dol Guldur Battle has some nice minifigs as well with Azog and Radagast, but neither DG set has a great build imo. I think overall I would have to go with Lake-town Chase as my favorite with MEA in a close second. If MEA would of included an armored elf or two I think that would of hands down been my favorite set. Usually I am a huge army builder fan but as it stands MEA just has too many issues; Thranduil is great if you buy the set once but beyond that is redundant and hard to use, the walls are pathetically short, and 3 elven scouts are too many when they are all the same imo. So, what is your guys' favorite wave 2 Hobbit set?
  6. Hi everyone, Speculations are coming whether there will be a next wave of LOTR sets this year ot not, since there are no sign of them. There are several scenes/caracters that we miss so much! The most iconic is – at least for me – Minas Tirith! I dared to design something, that could be released as an official sets. I tried to think with TLG’s head, regarding piece and minifig count and playability. This is what I came up with: The whole set with Minas Tirith gate, Grond, the tower with the signaling fire with some minifigs. The Grond from a closer view. The ram itself is hanged on chains, so you can swing it, when you try to break the gate. Because you can break the gate! You can see two technic bars at the two side of the gate. [1st picture] If you remove them, the gate can be pushed back from forward, imitating the siege, when the Wolf’s head crashes the gate. The rear view. The gate can be closed. I admit, I run out of steam with the furniture, so it’s a little empty. That was not my main point. :) The minifigs: Rear row: Two orcs in battle armor, Gothmog and a Cave Troll. First row. Pippin in Minas Tirith Guard outfit, Gandalf the white and two Gondorian soldiers. Disclaimer: I used the parts that are available in LDD so I had to live with its limitations. No proper LOTR troll mold and no new molds of course (For Gothmog’s head for instance). And the whole model is a compressed version of part of the city, but it is not unusual in official LEGO sets. The tower with the fire is not so close to the gate, but I wanted to add as many play feature as possible. The Citadel was left out though. I don't think it could be built together with the gate without making the city to small. Yes, there is a ballista. Remember, think like TLG.
  7. Right now it doesn't appear we will be getting a 2014 LotR wave and the theme may possibly be done. I am hopeful we will get a wave next year as there is just too much missing. If not though, what would be the ONE thing you want to see come from the LotR theme? This can be anything not done yet.. a minifigure, a structure, a creature (brick built or molded), etc. Basically what is the one thing you would want to see before the line ends? Personally I think it's a Gondor Soldier for me. A nice Gondor printed torso would all me to make my own Pippin and Faramir in Gondor attire as well as obviously covering the one big faction still missing from the Middle-Earth Lego universe. Eowyn can be created using existing parts and a Balrog/Fel Beast/Mumakil can all be brick built and MOC'd. Really the only major character that can't easily be re-created is the Witch King, though technically we could have him in his normal Nazgul hooded form and we will get his ghost form with the Hobbit wave. I feel like Lego not making a Gondor soldier does not leave us with any easy options to make our own since the white tree print and helm are so unique.

    MOC: Nori

Here's the next dwarf on my project - Nori, the thief. Nori was an average dwarf to build expect for the head and its odd starfish hairdo. I specially like how the eyebrows came out. The beard braids use minifig legs as the array of brown joint pieces is rather limited. More on Cyclopic Bricks, photo on Flickr. Hope you enjoyed! I guess Fili will be next, but it might take while since I'm running out of dark brown pieces!

    MOC: Glóin

Hello fellow Eurobrickers! Here's Glóin, son of Gróin, brother of Óin and father of Gilmi, the newest addition to my Hobbit dwarves MOC line! The beard was the first part I built, as usual. I threw it together on the last summer if I remember correctly. Designing the torso invoved both some basic and some more complicated SNOT techniques. Glóin has some packs and bags on his belt as he's the money behind the operation. The arms and hands are posable. The shoulders have ball joints while the elbow joints work with T-bars. The boots are rather simple, but I'm very happy with the round shape. Sons of Gróin. See more on Cyclopic Bricks and photos on Flickr. Feedback would be pleasant.
  10. After looking at some of my LotR characters I decided I would go one step further in making them stand out by giving them hair pieces. The problem is I am not sure which are the best hair options. The main characters I am looking at right now are Eomer and Theoden. Eomer in particular needs to stand out because the cloak alone just isn't doing it for me. I have tons of other minifigures with his face, torso, and helm serving as generic Rohan Soldiers and the cloak is the only thing I use to differentiate Eomer from them. Theoden is already pretty unique with his brown and gold armor but I would like a hair piece for him as well when he isn't all geared up. What have others found to be the best hair piece for these two characters? I was looking some up on BL and it seems the female hair pieces are the best for Eomer as he has fairly long hair? Which is the closest match to his hair in the movie though? I also would like to find some better hair for Gandalf and Lurtz if anyone has any good suggestions for them, though they aren't as important. Their current hair doesn't really look that good and I am sure there are better options out there.
  11. Based on typical Lego sales in past years, does anyone have an idea of when we will see a sale or vip deal this year? I've been planning on buying all the new LOTR sets, but I've been waiting for a deal. Just wondering if anyone is expecting a big Lego.com sale in the next couple of months.

    [MOC] Boromir's Last Stand

Hello everybody. I wanted to share with you all my newest (LOTR) MOC. I decided to make a MOC based on Amon-hen, and chose Boromir's Last Stand for this. Perhaps I'll do a second Amon-hen scene in the future, probably the Seat of Seeing with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. But for now, this will do... "As the Fellowship continues their journey past Lothlorien, they are held back at Amon-hen and are confronted by a group of Uruk-hai scouts and their leader, Lurtz, to separate the Fellowship from each other and to take away the Halfling who carries the One Ring... But even Boromir, son of Denethor II of Gondor, could not resist the power of the One Ring, and after a failed attempt to take the ring from Frodo, he was faced with one chance to redeem himself. Slaying Uruk-hai after Uruk-hai, Boromir displayed his strength in battle, but none of this lasted, for the Uruk-hai leader Lurtz had already arrived; bow in hand, with the first arrow to be fired..." __________________________________________________________________________________ Hope you liked it, C&C is welcome as always. More pictures can be found on Flickr, beneath the main pic:
  13. I know this topic has been brought up a lot in other threads, but I figured it would be nice to have a thread to discuss it in greater depth. With that said I am wondering what people's thoughts are on army builders/battle packs that include a unique named character. I know a lot of people defend them because they say the unique character appeals to kids (and AFOLS) who might otherwise not buy the set. I just don't understand that mentality. Obviously if the army builder is the ONLY set to contain a character like Eomer people will get at least one of them if they are a fan of the theme since it's the only way to get him. Lego could easily circumvent this by just offering Eomer in another set like Helm's Deep. Sure it sucks for people who can't afford Helm's Deep, but it's no different for them trying to get Theoden, King of the Dead, Grima, Haldir, etc. who only appear in expensive sets. I think even without a unique character army builders would sell extremely well, and possibly even better without them! Lego just has to be smart about it and put special prints or molds in for the grunts which would be exclusively available in the army builder. That way they still have the appeal of offering something unique, but they don't discourage people from buying multiples because they don't want all the extra Eomers or Thranduils. Do kids honestly look at a set and say "hey, this set only has 4 Uruk-hai and 2 Rohan Soldiers, I'm not buying it cause it doesn't contain any unique characters!" I know when I was a kid I ALWAYS wanted to buy tons of soldiers, even if my funds didn't allow it. I actually HATED when companies would not do the grunts like Storm Troopers, Foot Soldiers, etc. I think Lego might lose out on a FEW sales of army builder sets if they don't include a named character, but I think it would more than be made up for by all the people buying so many extra because they are "true" army builders. What are you guys thoughts for/against named characters in battle packs? How do the children in your life feel about it, or did you feel about it as a kid yourself?

  15. [CUUSOO] The Forbidden Pool - Combining Lord of the Rings and the Classic Forestmen Dear all, this is my very first CUUSOO project. The Lord of the Rings has taken me out of the dark ages, but one thing that I find lacking after the first two waves was a representation of the men of Gondor. Faramir, in particular, is my favourite Tolkien character, and I hope to see an official LEGO version of him in the future. This project is based on Henneth Annun, The Window on the Sunset, as it appeared in The Two Towers. I experimented a lot with the set and exchanged some play features - from a changing coloration of the inner waterfall (as featured in the book) to the current version with a secret entrance. My favourite LEGO sets as a child were the Forstemen sets, and Faramir's Rangers and their hideout reminded me of the green forest dwellers of the late 80s. I think this set is a realistic proposal for CUUSOO since it is not overly large and has the potential appeal to audiences from Lord of the Rings fans to young LEGO fans. I appreciate any comments! Cheers, Michael Link to the CUUSOO project: http://lego.cuusoo.c...deas/view/45646 Overview of the set. Henneth Annun by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr I initially played with the idea of having a two-layered pool with a lever that shot fish around but abandoned it due to ever-incraesing piece count. Gollum in Pool better by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr Secret entrance through the Waterfall. Henneth Annun - entrance through Window on the West by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr Secret side entrance. Secret entrance by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr The floor can be pushed down to create a slope leading into the lower level of the cave. I intend to improve on this section once I have more bricks at my disposal. Ideally, I will have more furniture on the upper level and a hidden trapdoor leading down. This would also free some space on the bottom level for weapon racks and a smaller chamber to interrogate Gollum. Secret door by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr This play feature features the Ranger ambush on Gollum. A sliding plate moves the Ranger out of his cover to face Gollum. Ambush by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr I'm not satisfied with the look of the map on the crate, yet - again due to limited space caused by the larger than intended slope. Faramir in cave by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr Proposed minifigures: Frodo, Gollum and - photographed from the video game - Faramir, Madril and a Gondor Ranger. 16. Good morning/afternoon/evening, I'm looking for the blue coat Bilbo figure that was given out with 'The Hobbit' DVD/blu-ray pre-orders earlier this year. Let me know if you have it for trade (preferably through a PM) along with your country of residence, your own figure wants and possibly a possible price point. If you've got any other figures from The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings up for trade, let me know. I'm looking for many other figures from Middle-Earth as well. In most occassions, I'm only willing to do trades. (After my two ongoing trades are finished and my packages are shipped out, I'll post another topic for other LOTR/Hobbit figs I'm looking for, so I won't be putting too much hay on my fork. Even if you don't have this Bilbo, shoot me a PM if you've got LOTR/The Hobbit figs for trade.) By entering a trade with me, you agree that you're willing to ship first. As for my own haves, I have some less recent Star Wars figures and CMFs that I may be willing to trade. Other themes too, perhaps, depending on your wants.

  24. Meduseld, also known as The Golden Hall, is the center of power in the city of Edoras, the capital of the kingdom of Rohan. Build on a stone plateau on top of the highest hill in the city, the palace can be seen from afar by anyone approaching Edoras. Meduseld is built mostly from wood, but it was its straw roof reflecting sunlight in golden tones that earned the hall its nickname. Equestrian themes carved in wood or represented in tapestries honor the Rohirrim riders and the kingdom's love of horses. During the War of the Ring, Théoden King sat on his throne in the Golden Hall while he was manipulated by Gríma Wormtongue, until Gandalf, The White, came to free him. Gríma was then literally kicked out of the kingdom on the stone steps that lead to Meduseld. The following images were captured right before the Rohan people retreated to Helm's Deep. They portray a refreshed Théoden King between his niece Éowyn and his nephew Éomer, the Third Marshall of the Mark, shielded by archers and Rohirrim. About this MOC: I had been trying to choose a LOTR setting to build as my first post-dark-ages MOC for a while. Meduseld wasn't one of my first choices and I was already planning another Middle Earth landmark when the VII LugBrasil Challenge pushed me towards non-gray/blay subjects. Since I already had a good supply of brown and tan pieces and a dozen Rohirrim, the Golden Hall ended up being a natural choice. In order to keep my MOC within the challenge's 48x48 stud limit (and my own brick supply) I had to adapt a lot from the film trilogy Meduseld. Major changes were the removal of the stone obelisks and side halls, which contributed to the change of the roof profile. Even then, I believe the overall look of the building, inspired by Norman mead halls, was well preserved. The highlights are the wood-carved horses and the green and gold detailing to match the flags over the observation post. The hall's interior was also very simplified, being restricted to the throne room with a lightbrick-lit hearth and some benches. I had to improvise a crown for the King and hairpieces for his niece/nephew because they didn't look good wearing their helms, but those are presented to the sides of the throne with some weapons and the kingdom's treasure. C&C are very welcome and appreciated! Best, Preuss
